It was a while after Gwen was threatened by the Devil to stay quiet about her discovery about Ms. Chalice, Gwen slipped in a depression. Torn with wanting to say something to her friends and family about Ms. Chalice. Gwen tries to get on with her life with her job, her friends and family.

On her day off one sunny afternoon, Gwen decided to go for a stroll in the forest by herself. As she walked, she noticed a beautiful meadow with the most beautiful flowers she's ever seen.

"Wow, what beautiful flowers." Gwen said to herself.

She walks up to the flowers to get a closer look. She got out her ink pen and decided to create more beautiful flowers. She magically grew flowers all around the meadow until she decided enough was enough. Gwen sighed as she laid on the grass and said,

"Wow, don't even know my own imagination. I really outdid myself."

Gwen dozes off for a while, unaware her magical act attracted someone's attention. Out of nowhere, a large anthropomorphic orange flower with a yellow face and thorns along his body crept up to Gwen fast asleep. He prepares to attack her with his large leafy hands when he just noticed the magic inkwell on her belt. He quietly gasped and noticed the newly grown flowers around the meadow, realizing she was the one who made them. He pulls his hands back when he noticed she started to wake up and retreated. Gwen wakes up, stood up and leaves the meadow. The flower thought for a moment and smiled sinisterly, having an idea.

That night, Gwen says goodnight to her second family and goes straight to bed. After a while of sleeping, strange vines open Gwen's bedroom window and reached for Gwen and lifted her up out of bed and disappeared into the night.

The next morning, Gwen wakes up to find herself in strange new surroundings. She finds herself locked up in a vine-like cage, hanging from a tree.

"What the? Where am I?!" Gwen asked fearfully.

"Welcome to my garden, little girl." A male voice said sinisterly.

Gwen looked around for her captor and saw only a little flower with a cute face on the ground below her.

"Uh, did you speak to me?" Gwen asked the flower.

"YES!"

The flower yelled and shapeshifted to a human-sized flower with stem legs and leaf hands with thorns over his body. Gwen is shocked at the flower's transformation as she struggled to break free from her confinement.

"I wouldn't try anything if I were you. My vines are super-strong, even for you Gwen." The flower warned her.

"How do you know my name? Who are you?!" Gwen demanded to know.

"I am Cagney Carnation. I rule this garden here and protect it with my life." Cagney introduced himself.

"Well, Cagney, what do you want from me?! I never did anything to you!" Gwen asked, feeling scared.

Cagney Carnation then grew larger and lifted Gwen's cage into his leaf hand.

"You see that garden?" Cagney asked.

"Uh, yes?" Gwen asked, confused.

"That is my beautiful garden. But thanks to you, it has expanded with that inkwell of yours!" Cagney explained.

"Oh that? I was just making it more beautiful that's all! I wouldn't think to ruin it!" Gwen fearfully explained.

"Oh, you didn't ruin anything. I appreciate the kind gesture. It's just that no one has ever given me flowers before. Many people have the nerve to come around here and pick my precious flowers for themselves. I have a 'Keep Out' sign for a reason. But you're the first person I saw doing something nice for me." Cagney explained.

Gwen's eyes widened, then she asked,

"But why did you kidnap me if I did you no harm?"

"Because I actually do need your help. I need you to help me protect my garden from people picking my flowers. I was hoping maybe you had an idea with that inkwell of yours." Cagney explained.

Gwen thought for a moment, then she said,

"What if I placed a fence around your garden? And more 'Keep Out' signs?"

Cagney thought for a moment and said,

"I guess that'd be worth a try."

"If I help you keep your garden safe, would you let me go?" Gwen asked.

"Yes kid, you got a deal."

Cagney said as he opened Gwen's cage, dumped her into his hand and reaches his large leafy finger to her. Gwen shakes his finger, agreeing to the deal. Gwen gets out her ink pen and magically created tall chain-link fence surrounding the garden. She even puts up 'No Trespassing' and 'Keep Out' signs.

"Well, that should do it. Hopefully people will get the message." Gwen said.

"Let's find out, shall we?" Cagney asked as he takes Gwen and hides in a tall tree.

They watch a group of kids arriving at the garden and notice the fence and the signs. But the kids climbed up the chain-link fence to climb in. With quick thinking, Gwen uses her ink pen to electrocute the fence, shocking the kids off the fence. Feeling scared, they all run away. Cagney laughed at the kids running away and said,

"That was sensational kid! You scared those rotten brats away!"

"Uh, thanks?" Gwen said, feeling unsure as she magically made the fence electric to please Cagney.

"With this electric fence protecting my precious garden, no one will dare to come back to my garden ever again!" Cagney said sinisterly.

Gwen could tell that Cagney was a lonely flower who doesn't like visitors intruding on his garden.

"Okay, then if you're satisfied, I'll be on my way then." Gwen said as she started to climb down from the tree.

But just as Gwen was about to walk away, she feels vines wrap around her body and was lifted up to Cagney.

"Wait! Before you go, will you tell your friends to stay away from my garden. You know, spread the word?" Cagney asked.

"Yeah, sure. No problem." Gwen answered nervously.

"Good!" Cagney said with a sinister grin.

He lowers Gwen down outside the fence and she takes off for home. Gwen arrives back at the cottage, tapped her ink pen and appeared in her bedroom. She gets dressed, brushed her teeth and heads downstairs to breakfast. The cups have Gwen sit with them at the table as Elder Kettle brings them plates of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast.

"So, what do you guys wanna do today?" Gwen asked the cups.

The cups thought for a moment and shrugged.

"Well, I know one thing. We must stay away from that flower garden in the meadow. It belongs to someone." Gwen said.

Both cup's eyes popped.

"You were at that garden owned by that creepy dandelion? How did you escape?" Cuphead asked.

"I was kidnapped. Cagney Carnation wanted my help to keep out intruders from picking his flowers, so I put up a fence to make him happy." Gwen explained.

"Wow, Cagney doesn't like people. But it's amazing he took an interest in you." Mugman said.

"Well, yesterday on my walk, I came across that garden, and I added more flowers. Cagney took it as an act of kindness and kidnapped me to help him protect it. At least he let me go afterwards as long as I spread the word to people not to go in his garden." Gwen said.

"Oh." Both cups said.

"I know, wanna go to the abandoned garden and plant flowers?" Gwen asked.

"Yeah!" Both cups agreed.

"Okay, Gwen. But promise me you'll keep the boys out of trouble." Elder Kettle said.

"I promise Elder Kettle." Gwen promised.

After breakfast, Gwen and the cups head out to the abandoned garden and Gwen started planting flowers while the cups played with the garden hose and shovels. Gwen planted colorful flowers and some herb plants.

But when Cuphead and Mugman accidentally step on some of Gwen's flowers, Gwen noticed and scolded,

"Guys! You're stepping on my flowers!"

Both cups stopped and look at the flowers they accidently stepped on.

"Oops!" Both cups said.

Suddenly, the same vines that appeared in Gwen's bedroom appeared again in the garden.

"Oh no!" Gwen exclaimed, knowing who was approaching.

From the vines, Cagney Carnation appeared in a giant monstrous form.

"Ah-ha! Two little brats stepping on those poor innocent flowers! I'll teach you a lesson!" Cagney yelled angrily and prepared to attack.

Both cups screamed and hide behind Gwen as she prepared to defend them.

"Cagney! Wait! It was an accident! They were just playing, and they just weren't looking where they were going!" Gwen fearfully explained as she restored the stomped flowers.

"Accident or not, those brats have no respect for nature and need to be taught a lesson!"

Cagney prepared to attack and spit out some acorns from his mouth. Gwen deflects the acorns with her ink pen and shot them back at Cagney, hitting him.

"Stop this Cagney!" Gwen yelled.

Cagney pulled his petals in anger and shot seeds up in the sky and landed in the ground. To the cups and Gwen's shock, vines grow and little plants with mouths sprout out and attack the trio. Gwen manages to fight them off.

"Enough!" Gwen yelled as she made a forcefield surrounding her and the cups.

Cagney finally stops attacking the cups and Gwen.

"What is your problem Cagney? Just because someone accidentally steps on flowers doesn't mean they're bad people!" Gwen scolded.

Cagney caught his breath and said,

"I'm sorry Gwen. It's just that you did me a kindness I wanted to do something nice for you by protecting your garden! And I thought your two little friends were damaging it!" Cagney said defensively.

"Well, they weren't! They were just playing, and they didn't see the flowers they stepped on. But it's okay, accidents happen all the time!" Gwen explained.

Cagney sighed as he reverted to his regular self and called his vines away. Gwen removes the forcefield and walked up to Cagney.

"Hey, it's okay. You mean well keeping flowers safe. Wanna go back to your garden, and we can plant some more flowers?" Gwen offered.

Cagney thought for a moment and smiled.

"Sure kid. I could use a few more roses and violets. As long as your cup friends don't step on or pick any of my precious flowers." Cagney stated his condition.

"Deal!" Both cups said at once.

"Good!" Cagney said.

Gwen, Cagney and the cups walk away from the abandoned garden and head back to Cagney's meadow. But when they arrived at his garden, they are shocked to see three familiar faces over the electric fence vandalizing the flowers.

"Oh no, not those freeloaders again!" Cuphead exclaimed.

"What do they think they're doing?!" Mugman exclaimed.

Cagney felt rage building up and started growling.

"Guys, something tells me we might wanna back away. Things are about to get ugly." Gwen warned.

Gwen and the cups take cover behind a tree as Cagney grew into his giant monstrous form. The Root Pack were still stomping around the flower garden until they noticed a giant shadow covering them.

"Hey, where did the sun go?" Ollie asked.

"That's weird." Chauncey added.

"Uh, fellas? Don't look now, but I think we got company!" Sal fearfully exclaimed as he was pointing up.

The Root Pack look up and see an angry Cagney Carnation growling at them. Cagney roared furiously at them, and the Root Pack screamed. Cagney dived his arms into the ground, growing vines with sharp thorns. The Root Pack gets wrapped in the thorny vines and are pounded to the ground. Then, he attacks by spitting poisonous dandelions that cause the Root Pack's vision to be blurry. He finishes them off by stretching his face out and headbutting them far away.

Gwen and the cups watch in shock at Cagney's attacks and powers. After catching his breath, Cagney shrinks back to his regular form and approaches Gwen and the cups.

"Sorry you had to see that. But you see Gwen? This is why I wanted your help to protect my garden. But now that it's completely destroyed, what am I gonna do? This was my life's work!" Cagney asked in frustration.

He sits down sadly on a rock and sunk his head in his leafy hands. Gwen felt sympathetic towards Cagney and sits down next to him.

"Cagney?" Gwen asked.

"What?" Cagney asked.

"Don't depressed. I know what it's like to lose something I've worked hard on." Gwen said.

"How would you know?" Cagney asked.

"Because I'm an artist. Once my father and I got into a heated argument and out of anger, he destroyed my old sketchbook which contained my life's work. I too was heartbroken and thought my life was over. But then I realized it doesn't have to be. After the Devil kidnapped me and brought me here, the cups found me and took me in. They brought me to that wagon shop, and I bought myself a brand-new sketchbook so I could start a new life's work in. After that, I felt better and it took some time, but I finally forgave my father for destroying my first sketchbook." Gwen explained her story.

Cagney looked at Gwen and said,

"Wow, that's awful. Didn't you feel like you wanted to attack your father like I attacked your friends and those vegetable vandals?"

"I thought about it, but that would make a terrible person if I did that." Gwen answered.

"The point is, it's not too late to start over. We can rebuild your garden together. Maybe even make it better than ever like I did to my new sketchbook." Gwen advised.

Cagney thought for a moment, then realized Gwen has a point.

"Really? You would help me?" Cagney asked.

"Of course. What else are friends for?" Gwen answered.

Cagney smiled and said,

"Okay, then. Let's get to work!"

Both Gwen and Cagney use their powers to restore his garden and grow even more flowers and make the garden bigger than before. Gwen adds another higher fence surrounding the entire garden. After they grow beautiful colorful flowers, they all decide to celebrate by having a picnic in a clearing of the garden. Gwen magically conjures up some tea, cucumber sandwiches and little cakes.

"Oh, thank you Gwen! I never thought I could be this happy!" Cagney said as he sipped some tea and ate a few sandwiches.

"You see Cagney? Gwen is a true friend." Cuphead said as he munched on some cakes.

"Yeah, she'll do anything to help." Mugman added as he sipped some tea.

Gwen smiled as she ate a sandwich.

But suddenly, they hear the Root Pack coming back and the four look at the three vegetables approaching. But just when they try to hop over the fence again, Gwen used her ink pen to use her giant glove attack and pounded the Root Pack into the ground once again.

"Phew!" Gwen sighed of relief.

"Those dumb veggies don't know when to quit, do they?" Cuphead asked.

"Nope, they just wanna keep causing trouble." Mugman answered.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of those jerks, again." Gwen said as she got up and walked toward the fence while Cagney followed her.

Gwen walked up to the Root Pack trapped in her giant glove's fist.

"I never thought I'd see you three again. But you guys really crossed the line this time. Now, how should I punish you bozos this time?" Gwen asked.

The Root Pack looked nervous, knowing Gwen has harsh punishments.

"Aw, come on kid! We were just havin' fun!" Sal fearfully explained.

"Yeah, it was just a harmless prank!" Chauncey added.

"Yeah, we didn't mean any harm!" Ollie also added.

"Don't tell me, tell him." Gwen referred to Cagney.

Cagney angrily approaches the Root Pack, preparing for another attack.

"Hey Cagney, do you think that what they did was fun, a harmless prank and they didn't mean any harm?" Gwen asked.

"No! This is my precious garden! I don't allow dolts like you three around here for a reason!" Cagney answered angrily.

"What punishment should we make them do this time?" Gwen asked.

"Hmm. Ooh! I know!" Cagney said after getting an idea.

He whispers into Gwen's ear his idea and she giggled.

"Okay, if that's really what you want." Gwen said.

"It is." Cagney said.

"Okay, guys. You know what you're gonna be doing?" Gwen asked the Root Pack.

"Uh, is this gonna involve cleaning up our mess again?" Sal asked nervously.

Gwen nodded as she magically made garbage bags appear and other tools to have them clean up.

"And if you guys don't want Cagney or I to kick your butts again, I suggest you get started right now!" Gwen scolded as Cagney cracked his knuckles.

The Root Pack shuddered and quickly got to work cleaning the mess up. Gwen, Cagney and the cups watch the Root Pack working on the cleanup with satisfaction. After a long while, the Root Pack finally finish cleaning up their mess.

"Okay kid we're finished! Can we go now?" Sal asked.

"Hey Cagney? What do you think? Should they go?" Gwen asked.

"Hmm. I don't think so kid. I heard through the grape vine that my garden isn't the only one that got vandalized. Therefore, the answer is no. They have much more work to do." Cagney answered.

Gwen and the cups are shocked that the Root Pack vandalized more gardens.

"Well in that case, let's get going!" Gwen said.

Gwen magically makes the picnic disappear and travels with her friends to make sure they clean up all the messes they caused around the gardens of the Inkwell Isles. After hours of hard, physical labor; the Root Pack finally finish cleaning all the gardens they vandalized.

"Okay… messes… all… cleaned…up." Sal tried to speak while catching his breath.

"Can…we…go…now?" Chauncey tried to ask while feeling exhausted.

"Pleeeeeeaaaaaaase?" Ollie whined as he passed out.

"Cagney?" Gwen asked.

"Hmm. Nope, get back to work!" Cagney yelled.

The Root Pack gave horrified looks on their faces and groaned. Cuphead, Mugman and Gwen burst out laughing at the looks on their faces as the Root Pack look at them confused.

"Ha! I'm kiddin'!" Cagney revealed.

The Root Pack sighed of relief and prepared to leave.

"Oh, one more thing before you go." Cagney said.

"Yes?" The Root Pack nervously asked.

Cagney grew into his giant monstrous form and leaned down to the Root Pack.

"If I ever catch you three in my garden or anyone's garden again, you're all gonna be pushing up daisies when I'm through with you!" Cagney warned.

The Root Pack were shaking with fear.

"NOW GIT!" Cagney roared.

The Root Pack hop away as fast as they could while screaming.

Cagney shrunk back to his regular form. Gwen runs up to Cagney and hugs him. Cagney is shocked that he never got any hugs from anyone before and hugs her back. Cuphead and Mugman jump up on Gwen's back and hug her.

Just then, the citizens of the Inkwell Isles gathered around them and cheered them on. Cagney felt happy for once, getting praise from people.

"Wow, nobody's ever cheered me on before." Cagney said.

"Yes Cagney. You helped bring justice to their gardens. They're showing their gratitude." Gwen said.

"Hmm, perhaps they could enjoy my garden. As long as they don't pick or step on any flowers." Cagney said, having a change of heart.

"I can help you with that." Gwen said.

Back at Cagney's Garden, Gwen magically makes pathways and barriers to keep Cagney's flowers safe. Citizens walk through the garden and admire the beauty of the flowers and plants while complying with the rules.

Cagney, Gwen and the cups watch happily as the people kept strolling in the garden. Cagney lifted Gwen up in his arms and hugged her.

"Oh, thank you, Gwen! I never thought I could be this happy! I owe this all to you kid!" Cagney said happily.

Gwen hugs him back and said,

"You're welcome, Cagney."

Cagney lowers Gwen down to the ground.

"Hey, guys? We need to get going. Elder Kettle's gonna have dinner ready." Gwen said to the cups.

"Okay Gwen!" Both cups answered.

"Well, we better get going? We'll see you around Cagney!" Gwen said, waving goodbye.

"You, too. And kid?" Cagney asked.

"Yes?" Gwen asked.

"Come visit. You are always welcome in my garden." Cagney said with a smile.

"Thanks, Cagney. We will." Gwen said with a smile.

Gwen and the cups head back to the cottage, just in time for dinner. Elder Kettle has roast chicken with a side of potatoes and carrots. While the family feasted, there was a knock at the door. Elder Kettle answers the door and finds a deliveryman giving him a tall package addressed to Gwen.

"Gwen! You got a package!" Elder Kettle called.

"Oh, really?" Gwen asked as she came to get the package.

She takes the tall package from Elder Kettle, sets it down on the floor and notices it was from Cagney Carnation.

"Oh, Cagney sent this? I wonder what it is?" Gwen asked.

She opens the package and pulls out a beautiful potted birds-of-paradise flowers.

"Oh! These are so beautiful!" Gwen said in awe.

Elder Kettle and the cups are in awe of the flowers.

Gwen finds a little note attached to the flowers. She picks up the note and read,

"Take these birds-of-paradise as a token of my gratitude for all your help. Come visit me again sometime and we'll grow more flowers together. Sincerely, Cagney Carnation. P.S. Keep them indoors. They do not like the cold."

"Okay, I will Cagney." Gwen said.

She takes the birds-of-paradise and places them next to her potted flower on her windowsill in her bedroom.

That night, Gwen heads to bed and admires the birds-of-prey and her little potted flower is happy to have some company. Gwen smiled and went to sleep, believing she can overcome her depression after all.
