One afternoon in the Inkwell Isles, Gwen is having lunch with her secret agent friend Kai-Ming Cheng who agreed to keep the cartoon world a secret if Gwen would grant her access to Inkwell City to study their world. Lately, Kai-Ming had some news for Gwen that she needed her assistance with.
"Hey Kai-Ming, you said you wanted to discuss something with me today?" Gwen asked.
"Yes, the director of the FBI J. Edgar Hoover wants to meet you and I at a meeting that'll take place. He wants your assistance with something." Kai-Ming explained.
"Wow, the director of the FBI himself?" Gwen asked in amazement.
"Yes. He wants me to bring you to the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. this Saturday." Kai-Ming explained.
"Oh wow. Sounds like he needs my magical abilities or something." Gwen said.
"I don't know yet. But like we discussed before, you will tell no one about this. If anybody asks, you're running a quick errand." Kai-Ming discussed.
"Okay." Gwen agreed.
Saturday came and Gwen meets up with Kai-Ming at her door portal. Kai-Ming and Gwen step into her apartment in Boston. They both head to the train station and head up to Washington D.C. They finally reach the FBI headquarters and both women get through security and are escorted to J. Edgar Hoover's office by a guard. The guard knocks at the office door and hears a man call out,
"Come in."
The guard enters and announces,
"Mr. Hoover sir, Agent Cheng and her informant have arrived."
"Excellent. Send them in." Hoover ordered.
"The director will see you now ladies."
Kai-Ming turns to Gwen.
"Now remember, best behavior. You will address him as 'Mr. Hoover' or 'sir.' You will speak only when you're spoken to. And don't show the you-know-what unless he tells you to." Kai-Ming reminded her.
Gwen gulped and nodded.
Both women enter J. Edgar Hoover's office, and both sit in the chairs in front of Hoover himself. Gwen felt nervous until Kai-Ming gestured her to relax.
"Good afternoon, ladies." Hoover greeted.
"Good afternoon, sir." Kai-Ming greeted.
"Good afternoon, sir." Gwen also greeted.
"Now, I'm sure you're both wondering why I summoned you both here today. Especially you Miss Emmons?" Hoover asked.
Gwen nervously nodded as Kai-Ming patted her hand, gesturing her to relax.
"Rest assured Miss Emmons, your secret of the Inkwell Isles, the magic inkwell, the toon sightings including the Devil are safe with us. We need your help with something." Hoover explained.
"What is that sir?" Kai-Ming asked.
"You're both aware of the terrorist origination the Fallen Angels?" Hoover asked.
"I heard about them from the newspaper a few times." Gwen admitted.
"Yes, a group of terrorists who are seeking relics to make them invincible and conquer any country they desire. They are very dangerous." Kai-Ming answered.
"Correct Cheng. Your supervisor Norman Wilcox managed to find out what they're up to. According to his reports, they are seeking to find the relic that has never been found: The Sword of God's Word." Hoover explained.
"That's right sir." A middle-aged man appeared from the shadows.
"Norman Wilcox. I was about to send for you." Hoover said.
"My apologies sir. But that is true. The Fallen Angels are looking for the sword that'll help them conquer any country they desire and build a new world in their image." Norman explained.
"Woah." Gwen said, feeling spooked.
"Ah, Miss Emmons. Norman Wilcox. FBI Supervisor." Norman introduced himself.
Norman and Gwen shake hands.
"It's a pleasure sir." Gwen said politely.
"Sir, is there a way we can stop them?" Kai-Ming asked.
"I was just getting to that. I believe there is a solution. If they somehow find the sword, we might have a chance to stop them if we had the sword's counter weapon." Norman explained.
"What's that?" Kai-Ming asked.
"The opposite of the Sword of God's Word… the Devil's Pitchfork." Norman revealed.
Gwen's eyes widened, realizing where he was going with this.
"That's where you come in Miss Emmons. You have knowledge of the Devil. He possesses the pitchfork, does he not?" Norman asked.
"Yeah, but he never lets it out of his sight. Especially after that one time he lost it and my friend found it. The Ancient Contract of Pitchfork ownership is 'Finders keepers, losers weepers'." Gwen explained.
"Yes, but with that pitchfork, it will stop and take down the Fallen Angels once and for all." Norman explained.
"Even if that is true, we can't just go down to Hell and ask him for it. He'll blow his fiery temper, and kill us all, no pun intended." Gwen warned him.
"Oh, I know we can't do that. Which is why I propose you ladies are going to steal it." Norman proposed.
Both women gasped.
"Are you insane sir?! That's suicide! He'll kill us all!" Kai-Ming protested.
"Calm yourself Cheng. We'll just have you and your young informant take the pitchfork, bring it here and we'll take on the Fallen Angels. Then, the Devil can have his pitchfork back." Norman explained.
"I don't know about this. He's tried to kidnap me so many times I can't imagine what he'll try to do if he finds out I try to steal his pitchfork." Gwen expressed her worries.
"Don't worry Miss Emmons. Cheng will help you and protect you. So, you'll both bring the pitchfork at this location in the Appalachian Mountains. Here are the coordinates." Norman explained as he hands Kai-Ming a paper with the details of the location.
"I'm going to give you both 24 hours to bring me the pitchfork. Then, we'll use it to take down the Fallen Angels once and for all." Norman said.
Gwen took a deep breath, knowing the mission was going to be very risky.
"Alright then, meeting adjourned." Hoover said.
Both women get up and leave the office together and teleport back to the Inkwell Isles.
"Gwen, we'll meet up later tonight and discuss the plan at the training grounds in the forest." Kai-Ming said.
"Okay." Gwen said.
Gwen heads back home to the cottage while Kai-Ming headed back to her apartment. That night when everyone was in bed, Gwen sneaks out of her bedroom and goes to the training grounds where Kai-Ming is waiting for her.
"Okay, good you're here." Kai-Ming said.
"Yeah, I had to grab a few things." Gwen said.
"You have the magic chalk you mentioned before to summon his elevator?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Yes." Gwen answered as she pulled out the magic chalk.
"Show me how it works." Kai-Ming asked.
Gwen draws a large square on the ground. Then she reads the incantation out loud,
"Surface world I'll see you later; down I go in this elevator."
Suddenly, the square glowed and the elevator appeared from the ground to Kai-Ming's shock.
"Wow. So that's how a mortal can summon his elevator?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Yes. Cuphead got this chalk from my oracle friend Quadratus." Gwen explained.
"Alright, shall we?" Kai-Ming asked.
Both girls step inside the elevator and close the door. Gwen pushes the down button and the elevator stated descending into the ground. They waited for a while until finally, they reach Hell.
Gwen leads Kai-Ming down the hallway as Kai-Ming looked around in horror. Gwen looked at the Devil's tapestries of himself in three different forms and looked at all the tortured souls and started to have second thoughts about the mission.
"What am I doing?" Gwen asked herself.
"Gwen, what's wrong?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Kai-Ming look. That's what the Devil loves to do to souls when he collects them. Come on, I need to show you something. You're not gonna like it." Gwen said and leads Kai-Ming to another direction.
Gwen takes Kai-Ming to the Devil's office in the dungeon. Gwen has Kai-Ming watch in horror at the slaves working in the mines being watched by the guards.
"What is all this?" Kai-Ming asked.
"This is what he does to people who all messed with the Devil and he enslaved them to eternal servitude. It's a fate worse than death." Gwen answered.
Gwen takes Kai-Ming to the soul tube room and up to the giant soul vault. Kai-Ming watched in horror at all the souls being stolen in the tubes, leading to the soul vault.
"Is that where he stores all the souls? In that giant vault?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Yes. When Mugman and my parents were kidnapped, I surrendered myself to the Devil until Cuphead, Rose and William came down here and saved us. The cups, Rose and I kept the Devil busy while William got my parents to safety." Gwen explained.
"Oh wow." Kai-Ming said.
"Then, Cuphead and I wanted to get back at the Devil by blowing up his pipes, freeing all the souls which he was so enraged at us. We met up with William and went into an elevator, thinking we were safe. Only we realized too late it was a fake and we found ourselves trapped inside his mouth in his giant form. He nearly swallowed Rose alive until William and I saved her and we all escaped. After he captured Mugman and me again, Cuphead managed to point out the rules of Pitchfork Ownership. He had no choice but to trade me and Mugman for the pitchfork and he let us go. We barely escaped with our lives." Gwen finished the story, wiping a few tears.
"Wow, you all could've been killed." Kai-Ming said.
"Yeah. I'm just warning you that he is still dangerous without his pitchfork. He can still shapeshift into giant animals and he can grow so giant he could easily eat us alive. He nearly did that to Rose. I don't want the same thing to happen to you." Gwen warned her.
"I appreciate you warning me about the Devil, but we still need to do this. It's still a matter of time before the Fallen Angels find the Sword of God's Word." Kai-Ming said, reminding Gwen of the mission.
Gwen sighed and said,
"Okay, I know where his bedroom is. But we need to watch out for his imps. Especially Henchman."
"Okay." Kai-Ming agreed.
Both women sneak back to the throne room and go down a hall to the Devil's bedroom. Just then, they hear someone coming and hide behind some rocks. They notice a group of imps passing by, talking about taking time off. After they leave, they nearly reach the door until they realize the door was opening, to their horror. They quickly take cover behind the rocks again and witness Henchman leaving his boss's bedroom, carrying a bedtime storybook. After Henchman walks away, Gwen snickered at what she just saw.
"What's so funny?" Kai-Ming asked.
"I didn't realize the Devil likes having bedtime stories read to him to go to sleep." Gwen said, trying to keep in her laughter.
"Okay, enough laughing. Let's do this." Kai Ming said.
Gwen uses her ink pen to make the door unlock. Both women quietly sneak in and notice the Devil sleeping with his sleep mask on. Kai-Ming looks around and noticed the pitchfork laid against the wall next to his bed. Kai-Ming pointed at the pitchfork as Gwen took notice. Gwen quietly sneaks up to the Devil's bed, when he started talking in his sleep.
"I'll… get your soul… you stupid… cup." The Devil said in his sleep.
Gwen inaudibly caught her breath and takes the pitchfork and sneaks back up to Kai-Ming as she gave Gwen a thumbs up. Gwen gets out her ink pen and both teleported back to Kai-Ming's apartment. Both let out a sigh of relief.
"Wow, we did it! We got the pitchfork!" Kai-Ming said.
Gwen looked guilty as she held the pitchfork in her hands.
"Gwen, it'll be okay. We'll just use this to stop the Fallen Angels. Then, we'll return this to the Devil, okay?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Well, okay." Gwen reluctantly agreed.
Both of them leave to find the disclosed location of the meeting in the Appalachian Mountains.
The next morning, the Devil wakes up with a happy grin on his face. He stretches his arms and gets out of bed. He reaches for his pitchfork, only to realize it was not there.
"Huh? Where's my pitchfork?" The Devil asked.
He looked around and realized to his horror it was gone. He frantically looks everywhere in his bedroom but to no avail. The Devil roared in fury until Henchman quickly comes into his bedroom.
"Boss! What's going on? Are you alright?" Henchman asked.
"No! I'm not alright! My pitchfork's gone! I had it right here next to my bed last night and now it's gone!" The Devil yelled.
"And you're sure you left it there last night?" Henchman asked.
"OF COURSE, I'M SURE! IT WAS STOLEN!" The Devil roared.
"Alright, let's ask everyone around. Maybe someone's seen something." Henchman suggested.
"UGH! FINE!" The Devil angrily agreed.
They both round up all the imps in the conference room.
"Listen up! My pitchfork is missing! Which one of you numskulls took it?!" The Devil angrily asked and pointed at them.
All his imps whimpered in fear and all shook their heads.
"Uh, boss, I don't anyone here would ever steal from you." Henchman said.
"Then how am I supposed to know who would be stupid enough to break into my room and steal my pitchfork?!" The Devil yelled.
"Ehm! Excuse me!" Stickler said.
"WHAT?!" The Devil angrily asked.
"Might I suggest looking into your magic mirror to find the culprit?" Stickler suggested.
The Devil's face dropped, feeling stupid that he didn't think to check his magic mirror.
"Oh right. The mirror." The Devil said awkwardly.
Both the Devil and Henchman walk up to the magic mirror.
"Show me who took my pitchfork and where it is now!" The Devil demanded.
The mirror showed a reflection of Kai-Ming and Gwen with the pitchfork heading to the Appalachian Mountains. The Devil's eyes widened, realizing Gwen and Kai-Ming were both responsible for stealing the pitchfork.
"My beautiful flower did this?! How could she?!" The Devil angrily asked.
"Now, now boss don't overreact. Maybe she doesn't really want your pitchfork. Maybe somebody either hired her to steal it or it's another one of her childish pranks or something to do with that woman from the FBI." Henchman said to calm his boss.
"Well, I hope for her sake, you're right! She'll be punished bigtime if this was all her idea!" The Devil said as he watched the humans closely.
Back in the human world, Gwen and Kai-Ming arrive at the location Norman Wilcox said to meet them, only to find no one present.
"Wait, where's Wilcox?" Gwen asked.
"I don't know, but I'm sure he's around." Kai-Ming said.
Just then, they hear someone coming from the bushes, only for Norman Wilcox to appear.
"Oh, there you are sir." Kai-Ming said, feeling relived.
"Sorry I'm late ladies, I had to take a quick bathroom break." Norman apologized.
"It's alright sir. Anyway, we got it." Kai-Ming announced as Gwen reluctantly held up the pitchfork.
"You got the pitchfork? Excellent! This is what we need to defeat the Fallen Angels!" Norman said excitedly.
"But how will it stop them?" Gwen asked.
"Look, all we have to do is use it to…" Norman was about to explain when suddenly…
The sounds of guns cocking were heard, only for the trio to realize too late they were ambushed by armed members of the Fallen Angels themselves.
"No!" Kai-Ming exclaimed as she was taken hostage.
Several men hold Gwen hostage and take away the pitchfork.
"Wilcox! Help!" Gwen exclaimed.
Norman looked at Gwen and gave Gwen an evil smile, making Gwen realize something.
"Help you Miss Emmons?" Norman asked.
"You…"
Gwen said as she feels felt rage building up in her and attempted to attack him only for Norman to punch her in her stomach.
"Wilcox! What are you doing?!" Kai-Ming yelled.
"So sorry about the rude welcome and the big surprise but we wouldn't want to make a scene when we use the pitchfork to destroy all the countries of the world. Then, the Inkwell Isles will be next." Norman revealed his true intentions.
"Wilcox, why are you doing this?" Gwen weakly asked.
"Why you ask? Well, this world is going to hell as it is with the second world war, the great depression and all that. So, by eliminating all the countries with this pitchfork, we'll make an even better world then before." Norman explained.
"This is madness." Kai-Ming said, horrified her own supervisor was in cahoots with the terrorists all along.
Norman walked up to Kai-Ming.
"Well done Cheng. You completed your mission to befriend that kid so we'd get all the information on the Devil and his pitchfork." Norman taunted.
"No! I was only sent to study the cartoon world to protect it and the kid!" Kai-Ming yelled.
Norman slapped Kai-Ming in the face.
"Your usefulness has ended." Norman said.
Then, he walked up to Gwen and placed his hand on her.
"Truth be told, I have you to thank for making this all a reality my dear. Couldn't have done it without you." Norman taunted.
Gwen's eyes widened, realizing her instincts were right not to steal the pitchfork.
"Take them to the caves and kill them there!" Norman ordered the terrorists.
Both Kai-Ming and Gwen were taken away as Gwen screamed in anger.
Meanwhile, the Devil and Henchman watched with their mouths hung open at what they just witnessed.
"Well, that explains a lot. If those dumb humans think they can use my pitchfork to destroy the human world, they got another thing coming!" The Devil angrily declared.
"But boss. We're gonna need help to get to the human world." Henchman pointed out.
The Devil realized immediately who he needed to ask for help and cringed.
"Oh no! Not those two nitwits! I won't ever ask them to help me!" The Devil argued.
"But boss! They have that door portal to the human world and they seem to know the area in America. What choice do we have?" Henchman asked.
"UGH! FINE!" The Devil angrily agreed.
Both demons use the elevator and travel up to the cottage, where Cuphead and Mugman were once again playing in the yard. They both stopped playing and realized the Devil came to their home once again. The Devil and Henchman approached the cups.
"Ah! The Devil!" Both cups exclaimed.
"Yeah, yeah whatever. Look, your best friend was tricked into stealing my pitchfork and she and another human are now being taken prisoner in the human world!" The Devil explained.
Both cups looked at each other in confusion.
"Look, she's in trouble! I can't believe I'm saying this but…" The Devil was about to say.
"What, you want our help so you can kidnap her and marry her? I don't think so." Cuphead said, not trusting the Devil.
"Look, I know you don't wanna believe me, but I just saw her in trouble in the human world! She and another human who's really a secret agent from the American government both stole my pitchfork and now they're being held prisoner and are about to be killed!" The Devil said frustratingly.
Just the, Cerulean Bolt flew out of Gwen's room, overhearing their conversation. He flew down to the group and pulled up some pictures of Gwen and Kai-Ming and FBI papers from Kai-Ming's apartment. The cups looked through the evidence and realize the Devil was telling the truth.
"Whoa. Gwen met a secret agent and she never told us?" Cuphead asked.
"I thought she promised us no more secrets!" Mugman said.
"Well, she kept this one from you two idiots!" The Devil scolded as he destroyed the evidence by lighting it on fire.
"Now, now. Boss, we need their help so calm down and shake on it." Henchman told his boss.
The Devil groaned and held his hand to Cuphead.
"Hmph!" Cuphead angrily said and turned away from the Devil.
"Cuphead, I know you don't wanna help him, but we need to get our Gwen back. So, what choice do we have?" Mugman reminded his brother.
Cuphead thought for a moment and realized Mugman was right. So, Cuphead and the Devil reluctantly shake hands as they both gritted their teeth.
"Alright, we're working together, now what?" The Devil asked.
"Well, we could just use the door portal to get to the human world." Mugman said as he showed the door portal.
They all step through the door portal into the human world in front of the Emmons residence.
"You said she and that secret agent headed to the mountains?" Cuphead asked.
"Yes, they're called the Application Mountains or something. An evil human organization has some basecamp up there and that's where they're being held prisoner." The Devil answered.
"But how do we know where to find them?" Henchman asked.
Cerulean Bolt flew up and gestured the group a direction.
"What is it boy? You know where?" Cuphead asked.
Cerulean Bolt made sniffing noises around until he picked up a familiar scent. He gestures the group to follow him.
"I think he's got a trail of Gwen's scent!" Mugman exclaimed.
"Alright then, sic' her!" The Devil ordered the magic carpet.
Cerulean Bolt leads the group beyond the outskirts of Boston and reach the mountains in the forest. But the group get tired from following the magic carpet.
"Hey… we're tired. Can you fly us there?" Cuphead asked feeling tired.
Cerulean Bolt flew down to the cups and the cups get on.
"Wait! Don't forget about us!" The Devil said as he grabbed Henchman and climbed on the magic carpet.
Cerulean Bolt flew the group up the mountain for a while until they finally reach the basecamp and realize there were guards and were forced to take cover below some cliffs. They peeked over and realize there were to many guards to sneak past.
"Uh, we need to take those guards out. Any ideas anyone?" Mugman asked.
The Devil snickered, already having an idea.
"Leave that part to me." The Devil said with an evil grin.
Meanwhile, Gwen and Kai-Ming were struggling to find a way out of the cave filled with explosives. Gwen angrily tries climbing back up the tunnel without her ink pen and inkwell, but to no avail.
"Gwen! It's no use!" Kai-Ming called out.
Gwen laid on the ground in defeat, feeling exhausted from trying to escape.
"This is all my fault. I never should've trusted you! Then none of this would've happened!" Gwen angrily said while fighting back tears.
"I'm so sorry Gwen. I had no knowledge of this scheme. I can't believe Wilcox could do such a despicable act of betrayal. I trusted him, I did everything right. I should've known he was using me as a tool for his own selfish needs." Kai-Ming said, feeling remorseful.
"The Devil's gonna kill us if he finds out about the pitchfork." Gwen said sadly.
Just then, a loud explosion was heard from the surface, making the earth rumble.
"What was that?" Kai-Ming asked.
"I don't know. But that sounds familiar." Gwen answered.
Outside, the Devil in his giant dragon form incinerated all the guards except on which he holds upside down from his fist.
"Alrighty then. I think this one's ready to talk about location of those two ladies." The Devil said with an evil grin.
The sole survivor guard frantically covered his face with his hands as the Devil prepared to breathe fire at him.
"Okay! Okay! I'll talk! They're in those caves filled with explosives and are gonna be blown up in 3 minutes! Just have mercy on me!" The guard frantically confessed.
The Devil snickered and held the guard in his face.
"Mercy on you? I don't know about that I mean; did you have mercy on the innocent humans whose lives you helped destroy? Nope. I'm sorry but now you're gonna see what it's like when no mercy is shown to disgusting little mortals like you." The Devil taunted.
The Devil reached on of his claws at the guard and ripped out his soul. He tosses the guard's lifeless body on the ground and shapeshifted back to his regular form.
"Henchman! Take this useless soul to the soul vault right away!" The Devil ordered.
"Actually boss, Stickler just arrived here in the elevator." Henchman said as he took the soul from his boss.
"Stickler! What are you doing here?" The Devil asked.
"Making sure you're still on top of the mission and to make sure you're still collecting souls while you were at it. You still need to bring the numbers back up." Stickler answered.
"Rest assured Stickler, I just collected one soul so far." The Devil answered.
"Good. That's one number brought up so far." Stickler said as he took the soul from Henchman and went back into the elevator and disappeared back to Hell.
"Now, the girls." The Devil said as he turned to the caves.
Meanwhile, Gwen and Kai-Ming were both struggling to climb up the tunnel to the surface when they started to hear the timer almost up for the bombs to denotate.
"We've got to hurry! The bombs will go off any second!" Kai-Ming exclaimed.
"I know that! I'm trying!" Gwen argued.
Just then, they hear they hear something burst into the caves as a loud beeping noise activated, realizing they were out of time. They hear the bombs exploding when all of a sudden, something grabbed both women and were pulled up and out of the caves just in time before it caved in.
Both women sigh of relief as they looked down, realizing they were both in large fists.
"Oh no." Gwen said worryingly, knowing exactly who saved them.
Both women turned around and looked up at the Devil in his giant form.
"Well, I know two mortals who have some explaining to do!" The Devil boomed angrily.
Gwen felt ashamed of herself as the Devil placed the women down and shrunk back to his normal size.
"So, my beautiful flower, where do you get the audacity to do this to me?!" The Devil angrily asked.
Gwen sighed and answered,
"They tricked me into stealing it. They told me your pitchfork was the only thing that can stop the Fallen Angels terrorist organization. I didn't realize Kai-Ming's supervisor was the mastermind behind this. I'm so sorry Devil." Gwen explained and apologized.
"Didn't your parents teach you to be careful who you trust?! And you know better than to steal my precious pitchfork!" The Devil scolded.
Gwen held her head in shame as the cups run up to Gwen and hug her.
"Gwen! You're alive!" Both cups said.
"Thanks for coming for me guys. I'm so sorry I kept this from you." Gwen apologized as she knelt down and hugged them back. Mugman gives Gwen back the magic inkwell and ink pen.
"Please, no more secrets Gwen." Cuphead said.
"I won't guys." Gwen promised.
Kai-Ming watched Gwen hug her friends, reminding her of her estranged family. Then, she gets an idea.
"Devil, I have a proposal for you." Kai-Ming said.
The Devil turned his attention to Kai-Ming.
"What?" The Devil asked impatiently.
"I know you're angry and you have every right. But I have an idea to get you your pitchfork back." Kai-Ming said.
The Devil grumbled and then impatiently asked,
"How?"
"It will require your assistance to get us to the location of where they're going to try to use your pitchfork to test its powers. I know where they're going. But we need your help to get there." Kai-Ming explained.
"I don't know. You encouraged my beautiful flower to steal my pitchfork even though I'm pretty sure she warned you about the consequences…" The Devil said, expressing his doubts.
"Yes. She did. But I didn't listen." Kai-Ming admitted.
"That's right. You chose not to listen. So, why should I believe you?" The Devil asked.
"Because, if anyone deserves to be punished, it should be me not her. Which is why I'd like to make… a deal." Kai-Ming said.
Gwen and the cup's eyes widened.
"Kai-Ming! No! You don't know what you're doing!" Gwen protested.
"Quiet you!" The Devil yelled.
He calmed himself and calmly said,
"Things just got interesting. What do you have in mind?"
Kai-Ming took a deep breath.
"If we get you back your pitchfork with your assistance, you leave us alone." Kai-Ming said.
"Hmm, nope. That's not good enough. What's in it for me? I don't just help anyone without a fee." The Devil asked impatiently asked.
"And… you can have all the souls of the Fallen Angels including my ex-supervisor Norman Wilcox's." Kai-Ming bravely answered.
"Wait what?" Both cups asked.
"Let's see. I help you take those dumb yokels down, you and Gwen will get my pitchfork back, and then I can have all those dumb yokel's souls?" The Devil asked, trying to understand.
"Yes." Kai-Ming answered.
"Hmm. Fine, but on two conditions: if this mission fails or if you get any ideas of double crossing me, I get to take Gwen away, the cups souls and yours too. Or if the mission is successful, you and Gwen will receive a light punishment." The Devil added.
Kai-Ming felt worried as the group grew scared.
"Do we have a deal?" The Devil evilly asked as he raised his hand to her.
Kai-Ming hesitantly raises her hand to the Devil.
"Deal." She answered.
They both shake on it, until the Devil burns Kai-Ming's hand.
"OW!" Kai-Ming cried in pain as she took her hand back and blew on it.
She looked at her new burn scar on her right hand.
"Was that necessary?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Just a little extra measure for the deal." The Devil proudly said.
"Ouch." Cuphead said.
"Now then, what's the plan?" The Devil asked.
"They're heading to a secret testing site just northeast of the Appalachian Trail on the cliffs above the lake. They're gonna be figuring out how the pitchfork works and test its powers. We need to sneak in and get it back." Kai-Ming explained.
"So, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Cuphead said as he and Mugman get on the magic carpet.
Gwen took Kai-Ming and joined the cups on Cerulean Bolt.
The Devil shapeshifted into his dragon form as Henchman joined the group on the magic carpet. They fly north on the Appalachian Trail as Gwen felt bad for snapping at Kai-Ming.
"Kai-Ming? You shouldn't have made that deal. You know your soul and the cup's too are on the line as well as my freedom." Gwen said.
"I know. But it was the only way I could convince the Devil to help us. Plus, I need to make it up to you for not heeding your warnings." Kai-Ming said feeling remorse.
Gwen felt bad as they continued to fly to the secret testing site. They finally reach their destination, and the group takes cover behind some rocks. They observe the Fallen Angels prepare everything for the testing of the pitchfork.
"There they are." Kai-Ming said as she looked through a pair of binoculars.
She looked again and saw Norman grabbing the pitchfork and was eager to test it.
"There's Wilcox and he has the pitchfork." Kai-Ming added.
"Okay, let's just go in there and get it!" Cuphead said and prepared to go in.
Not before Mugman grabbed his handle and pulled his brother back.
"Are you crazy?! This place is crawling with bad guys with guns!" Mugman scolded.
"Oh, right." Cuphead said, realizing his mistake.
"Not to worry guys. I have a plan." Gwen said, holding her ink pen.
"Devil, wanna make a grand entrance for those guards?" Gwen asked.
"Hmm, alright. You know me, Gwen." The Devil agreed.
"Alright, let's keep it simple. The Devil will go in first, getting rid of the guards. Then, Kai-Ming and I will run in and confront Wilcox." Gwen said.
"Wait, what about us?" Cuphead asked.
"Yeah, we wanna help!" Mugman added.
Gwen thought for a moment and got an idea.
"You two grab the pitchfork while we keep Wilcox's attention occupied. Then give it to the Devil and he'll do the rest, okay?"
"Yeah!" Both cups exclaimed excitedly.
"And remember boys, no ideas of double-crossing the Devil. Especially you Cuphead!" Kai-Ming scolded.
"Oh, you know about that, don't you?" Cuphead asked.
"Yes, Gwen told me that story." Kai-Ming said.
"Alright, enough talking. That pitchfork isn't going to retrieve itself! Let's go!" The Devil said impatiently.
The group all head towards the entrance of the testing site and the Devil prepares himself by cracking his knuckles.
Inside the testing sight, the guards were making their rounds until suddenly they hear a large growling noise. They all paused and stared at the entrance, hearing something coming. They all aim their guns and prepared to shoot at whatever was coming their way.
Suddenly, from out of the darkness, the Devil appeared in his giant octopus form and roared very loudly. The guards tried firing their guns at the Devil, but the bullets deflect off him as he laughed.
"Is that all you pathetic mortals can do?" The Devil taunted.
The Devil attacked with his large tentacles and swapped them away. Meanwhile, Gwen, the cups and Kai-Ming run inside the base and look for Wilcox. They sneak up to some crates as Kai-Ming briefs the cups on the plan.
"Boys, you two get ready to grab the pitchfork. We'll look for Wilcox and keep him distracted." Kai-Ming said.
Both cups nodded and split up into two groups. Gwen manages to spot Wilcox holding the pitchfork, preparing to test it at some targets near the edge of a cliff. Wilcox aims the pitchfork at a target and tries to use it, but to his shock nothing happens. Gwen laughs at Wilcox, getting his attention. He spins around and notices Kai-Ming and Gwen emerging from the shadows.
"You wanted that pitchfork so badly and now you can't even use it, can you? That's not how the rules of pitchfork ownership works." Gwen taunted.
"You… you're both alive?" Wilcox asked, shocked.
"He came for us and saved us. But now he is furious with us. He demands penance for our actions. He said you abused his prized possession and now you're gonna pay ultimate price." Kai-Ming said angrily.
"Did he now?" Wilcox asked.
"He did." Gwen answered.
Wilcox notice the burn scar on Kai-Ming's right hand.
"You… made a deal with him?" Wilcox asked.
"Yep. He said its either us or you and your followers." Kai-Ming revealed.
Wilcox realized he was doomed but was not prepared to accept his fate. He attempts to grab his gun, but Gwen quickly used the magic inkwell and destroys the gun with her cyan-beam attack.
"Impressive kid. Maybe it's not the pitchfork that'll help us. It's your magic inkwell that can reshape the world instead. Think about it kid. You can help us rebuild this world and make it a better place. All you must do is transfer ownership of the inkwell to me and we'll create this new world together." Wilcox offered Gwen.
Gwen grew furious and her inkwell started glowing, remembering that he lied about the pitchfork stopping the Fallen Angels and realizing too late she was just a pawn to him.
"LIAR!" Gwen yelled and blasted Wilcox with her cyan beam attack. He is blasted against a wall and fell to the floor.
Kai-Ming walks up to him, preparing to handcuff him until he attacks Kai-Ming, and both fight each other. While Kai-Ming and Wilcox fought each other, Cuphead and Mugman take back the pitchfork and run off with it. Only for a guard to aim his gun at them until Cuphead accidentally shoots a fire blast, killing the guard.
"Oops." Cuphead said.
Gwen noticed her friends with the pitchfork.
"Guys! Get that pitchfork to the Devil! I gotta help Kai-Ming!" Gwen called out.
The cups run back to the Devil who managed to knock down all the guards.
"Hey Devil! We got it!" Both cups called out.
"Wonderful! Now give it to me and I'll take care of the rest." The Devil said and reached out his giant tentacle.
He grabs his pitchfork and smiles happily and kisses it, to the cup's disgust. Just then, they hear Gwen yell out, getting the Devil's attention.
"What's going on? Where are the women?" The Devil asked.
"They're fighting that evil human!" Cuphead answered.
Kai-Ming and Wilcox still fight until he throws Kai-Ming against the mountain wall, injuring her severely.
"Kai-Ming!" Gwen cried out.
Wilcox prepares to kill Kai-Ming with his pocketknife until Gwen fired her giant glove attack and punched him. Gwen prepared to finish off Wilcox until he managed turn on the hanging bright lights, blinding her. Wilcox kicks Gwen, knocking her over the cliff.
"GWEN!" Kai-Ming yelled.
The Devil and the cups looked over and realize Gwen is falling over the cliff. She lands in the lake and is drowning. The Devil grew furious and shapeshifted into his enormous giant form. The injured guards looked up in horror and screamed. The Devil prepares to unleash his full fury on the Fallen Angels while Henchman on Cerulean Bolt quickly grabs the cups and flies away.
"Wait! Go back!" Cuphead yelled.
"What about Gwen and Kai-Ming?" Mugman yelled too.
"Trust me boys it's not gonna end well!" Henchman called out, knowing exactly what's about to happen.
The Devil's eyes glowed, makes flames appear all around the base, blasts all the Fallen Angels members. Then, he collects all their souls and makes one of his soul tubes appear. He has all their souls sucked down to his soul vault and makes their soulless bodies disappear with the tap of his pitchfork.
Then, he turned his attention to Gwen, heading over to the lake. He reaches his large hand into the water, scooping her up and out of the water just in time. He looks at Gwen unconscious in his palm. He reaches his large finger and taps her, making her cough up the water. She attempts to get up, but she is too weak and falls back down.
"You just sit tight my dear; I got unfinished business to take care of." The Devil said as he grasped his fist, trapping Gwen inside once again.
Then, he turned his attention to Wilcox, preparing to kill Kai-Ming. He pins her down, preparing to stab her with his pocketknife until he is suddenly, the bright lights exploded.
"What's happening? Where's all my men?!" Wilcox asked angrily.
"He's here to collect his due. He's taken your men's souls and their bodies are now enslaved for all eternity. And guess who's the last one to be collected?" Kai-Ming weakly taunted.
Wilcox realized too late he is the Devil's last target. But before he could do anything, Wilcox is surrounded by smoke and hears the Devil laughs evilly. Kai-Ming gestures Wilcox to look up. He nervously looked up and saw the Devil looking down on him with an evil grin. Wilcox screams in horror as the Devil reached his large fingers and pinched Wilcox's soul out of his chest. The Devil smiled satisfyingly at his last collected soul.
"Reshaping the human world in your image? I think not." The Devil taunted.
He hands over Wilcox's soul to the soul tube and has it sucked down to the soul vault. Then, he snaps his fingers, making Wilcox's soulless body disappear. Kai-Ming weakly gets up as the Devil felt Gwen knocking at his fingers.
"Let me out! Let me out!" Gwen weakly tried to call until she passes out from exhaustion.
The Devil shrinks himself down to his normal size and carries Gwen in his arms. Kai-Ming weakly approaches the Devil.
"Thank you." Kai-Ming said.
"Just remember not to take things that don't belong to you!" The Devil scolded.
"Understood. We came through our end of the bargain." Kai-Ming said.
Kai-Ming checks on Gwen and realizes she's still alive. Gwen wakes up and the Devil sets her down. The cups help Gwen stay on her feet.
Just then, they hear police sirens arriving.
"Devil, you must go. I'll handle the authorities. You were never here." Kai-Ming said.
"Very well. But don't get too comfortable. You and Gwen are not getting off from me that easily. We'll discuss a small but reasonable punishment for stealing my pitchfork at a later date." The Devil explained his conditions.
"Fine, but how will we know?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Trust me Agent Cheng, you'll know. I'll have Henchman pick you up when the time comes." The Devil answered.
"Okay." Kai-Ming hesitantly agrees.
"Come on Henchman, we're leaving!" The Devil called.
"Aw, can I hang out with this magic carpet a little longer? I really like this guy." Henchman asked sitting on Cerulean Bolt.
"No Henchman! NOW! The human authorities are coming!" The Devil yelled.
Henchman quickly hopped off Cerulean Bolt and joined his boss.
"Bye bye buddy!" Henchman waved goodbye.
Cerulean Bolt waved goodbye to Henchman as the two demons disappeared back to Hell in the Inkwell Isles.
Kai-Ming turned her attention to Gwen.
"Gwen, take the cups and go home. I'll handle this." Kai-Ming instructed.
"I can't leave you." Gwen weakly said.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Now go!" Kai-Ming insisted.
Gwen grabs her ink pen and taps it, making herself, the magic carpet and the cups disappear back to the Inkwell Isles. Kai-Ming handles the authorities as they seize the secret testing site. An ambulance comes and Kai-Ming is taken to the Boston Hospital for treatment for her injuries.
Back in the Inkwell Isles at the cottage, the cups and magic carpet get Gwen inside and help her upstairs to bed. The cups help lay Gwen down to rest as she tried to catch her breath.
"That was an exciting day, huh Gwen? We rescued you, went on a secret mission, took down bad guys." Cuphead asked recapping the whole day.
"Yeah. You could say that buddy. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Devil was right, I really should be careful who I trust." Gwen weakly said.
"Hey, you got us. Just promise us no more secrets. Even if it involves spies and secret missions." Mugman said.
"I promise guys. It won't happen again." Gwen agrees.
Gwen hugs them goodnight and they all went off to bed. Cerulean Bolt lays on Gwen's bed once again.
The next morning, Gwen goes to check on Kai-Ming in the Boston Hospital. Gwen peeked into her hospital room and noticed Kai-Ming was sleeping. She thought for a moment and got an idea. She goes somewhere private to use the magic inkwell.
Later that day, Kai-Ming started to wake up, but to her shock, she finds a Chinese American man with three little girls sitting in chairs reacting to her waking up.
"Haoyu?" Kai-Ming asked the man.
Then she looked at the three little girls.
"Li-Mei, Caihong, Bai?"
"Mama!"
All three girls exclaimed, run up to her, jump on her bed and hug her. Haoyu comes up to Kai-Ming and gives her a hug and kiss. Kai-Ming had tears pouring from her face and smiled. Then she looked across her hospital room and saw Gwen standing there smiling.
"Gwen? You brought them here?" Kai-Ming asked.
Gwen nodded and pointed at the magic inkwell, hinting her how she did it.
"Thank you." Kai-Ming said.
Gwen nodded again, happy to see Kai-Ming and her estranged family united.
After some time has passed in the two worlds, Kai-Ming is promoted to FBI supervisor as well as spending more time with her family, mending their broken bond. Kai-Ming continues her studies with the Inkwell Isles and succeeds in covering up the Fallen Angels case.
One day, Kai-Ming prepares to leave for home and grabs her stuff from her new office. Suddenly, a fiery portal appears across the office and an elevator appeared. Kai-Ming knew immediately who it was and prepares herself mentally. The door opens and Henchman appeared.
"Uh, boss wants to see ya." Henchman said.
"Oh, he's ready for my punishment already?" Kai-Ming asked nervously.
"Duh, yes Agent Cheng. Now, come along. He said don't keep him waiting." Henchman answered.
Kai-Ming sighed and hesitantly stepped into the elevator. Henchman closed the door, pushed the down button and the elevator disappeared into the floor. Kai-Ming waited nervously with Henchman for whatever punishment awaited her. But she remembered that it would be much better than having her soul taken and be forced into eternal servitude to the Devil.
Just then, they arrived down in Hell.
"Well, we're here Agent Cheng. Good luck." Henchman said.
The door opens and Kai-Ming stepped out of the elevator and walked down the blue carpet. She noticed the Devil sitting at his throne waiting for her. Kai-Ming looked at the tapestries and tried not to be afraid. She approaches the Devil sitting on his throne waiting for her. Just then, Gwen suddenly appeared with a note.
"Gwen!" Kai-Ming exclaimed.
"Hey Kai-Ming. I see you got the message too?" Gwen asked as she held up a note from the Devil.
"Yeah, but Henchman brought me here." Kai-Ming said.
"Good, you two ladies have arrived. I thought long and hard about your light punishment. For the crime of stealing my pitchfork, I have decided to sentence you both… to community service." The Devil announced.
"What do you mean?" Gwen asked nervously.
"I mean you two get to clean around my beloved realm for three days." The Devil explained.
The Devil magically makes French maid outfits appear on both women and a cart of cleaning equipment magically rolled in. The Devil looked at Gwen and did a wolf-whistle, to her unamusement.
"So, I suggest you both get started. The fiery underworld isn't going to clean itself!" The Devil ordered and snapped his fingers.
Gwen and Kai-Ming took the cart, and both got to work cleaning around Hell as Henchman kept an eye on them.
"Don't worry Kai-Ming, your family will understand." Gwen assured Kai-Ming.
"I know. It's just I'm so happy we didn't end up like Wilcox and the Fallen Angels." Kai-Ming said.
"Yep, eternal servitude to the Devil is a fate worse than death." Gwen said.
In the dungeon, it is revealed that Wilcox and all the members of the Fallen Angels are put to work in the mines with the other slaves.
On the last day of their punishment, both women finish cleaning up and prepare to leave. But before Gwen could teleport themselves out of Hell, Henchman stops them.
"Miss Emmons wait! Boss wants talk to Agent Cheng about something." Henchman said.
"Oh, I'll wait then." Gwen said.
"Oh, boss said you can go now Gwen. The boss will take Kai-Ming home. No tricks this time." Henchman said.
Gwen grew nervous for Kai-Ming.
"I'll head home. Kai-Ming, good luck." Gwen said.
Kai-Ming nodded as Gwen disappeared back to the cottage. Henchman escorts Kai-Ming to the throne room where the Devil sits on his throne waiting for her. Kai-Ming grew nervous as she walked closer.
"Duh, okay boss. She's here." Henchman announced.
"Thank you, Henchman." The Devil said.
Kai-Ming looked at the Devil and tried to be brave.
"So, what did you wanna see me about?" Kai-Ming asked.
The Devil gave Kai-Ming a stare.
"How much does your U.S. government know?" The Devil asked.
"A lot. Including this world and your existence." Kai-Ming answered.
"That's precisely what I wanna talk to you about." The Devil said.
He gets up from his throne, walks down the steps and up to Kai-Ming. He puts his arm around her and leads her away with Henchman following behind.
"I'm sure you're aware of Gwen's grandfather Earnest Emmons?" The Devil asked.
"Yes, he discovered the magic inkwell then the Inkwell Isles after you kidnapped him. After his passing, he passed it on to Gwen. Then after you kidnapped her, she's opened door portals to her family in our world." Kai-Ming answered.
"You see Kai-Ming, this world was kept discreet from the human world until recently. Since Gwen's a little careless about keeping this world a secret from other humans, maybe you can help with that." The Devil explained.
"What do you mean?" Kai-Ming asked.
"Well, I don't want word getting out about the Inkwell Isles so that you humans will start invading this world just like all of you do to each other in your world. So, I want you and your fellow agent colleagues to keep those mortal mouths of yours shut about this or else…" The Devil warned.
"Or else what?" Kai-Ming asked.
"You really want to know?" The Devil asked.
"Uh… yes?" Kai-Ming nervously answered.
"Before I demonstrate, is your boss the so-called director of the FBI in his office right now?" The Devil asked.
"Yes, but he's about to leave soon. Why?" Kai-Ming asked.
"I'm gonna prove my point to him and you're gonna help me with my demonstration." The Devil answered.
"Wait, how?" Kai-Ming asked.
"You'll see…" The Devil said evilly.
The Devil tapped his pitchfork and the trio disappeared.
At J. Edgar Hoover's office in Washington D.C., he was preparing to leave his office and head home. Suddenly, an explosion was heard and to his shock, the Devil along with Kai-Ming and Henchman appeared before him. Hoover gasped and fell on the floor in horror.
"Cheng! What is the meaning of this?!" Hoover asked.
"Sir, I can explain!" Kai-Ming fearfully said.
"SILENCE!" The Devil yelled.
"Hello Mr. Hoover, I'm here to give you a special presentation." The Devil said calmly.
"W-w-w-what presentation?" Hoover nervously asked as he stands back up.
"Observe…" The Devil said evilly.
The Devil raised and pointed his pitchfork at Kai-Ming. Before Kai-Ming could reach for her gun, the Devil quickly destroys it. Suddenly, a thundering noise was heard, and a black cloud formed from his pitchfork. The cloud emerges with an evil face and floated at Kai-Ming as she started to feel scared. The cloud consumes her and disappears.
Kai-Ming looked at herself, but nothing happens.
"Uh… nothing's happening." Kai-Ming said.
The Devil smiled evilly, making Kai-Ming worry.
Suddenly her body started cracking and started decaying as she screams weakly.
"Aw jeez. Here we go again." Henchman said as he cringed at Kai-Ming dying.
Hoover watches in horror as Kai-Ming was succumbing to her death until she was finally a pile of bones and dust. The Devil lifts Kai-Ming's skull in his hand.
"Alas poor Kai-Ming. I knew her well." The Devil said mockingly as he dropped her skull.
The Devil turns his attention to Hoover and walked up to him. Hoover fearfully tries to make a run for it until the Devil made fire surround him.
"Uh, uh, uh! I'm not finished yet." The Devil said as he extinguished the flames.
Hoover sits in his chair, now more terrified than ever.
"Alright, I'm gonna give you a choice Mr. Hoover. You can either continue sending more agents to the Inkwell Isles and get them turned into dust or they can walk away in one piece and never speak a word about the Inkwell Isles. You can't have both. Which do you choose?" The Devil asked, now getting serious.
"I-I-I-I just wanna keep all my agents safe and alive." Hoover answered fearfully.
"Ah, good answer. And don't forget what's gonna happen to your agents and other innocent humans if you speak a word to anyone about the Inkwell Isles so that none of you will ever steal from me again. You understand?" The Devil asked.
"Okay! Okay! I'll bury the case! I'm sorry!" Hoover fearfully answered.
"Oh, you're gonna be sorry alright. Because if this ever happens again, I will come back and eliminate all your fellow agents wherever they are in this world. They will all be turned to dust. And the same thing will happen to you! Got it?" The Devil threatened.
"Yes! Yes! I got it! What do you want?!" Hoover fearfully asked.
"Give me all the evidence Kai-Ming gave you and I might just give your best field agent back to you." The Devil calmly answered.
Hoover opens his locked cabinet and pulls out a large file of all the evidence and reports Kai-Ming gave him. The Devil levitates the file and sets the file on fire, burning it all to ashes. The Devil snaps his fingers, resurrecting Kai-Ming back to life as she gasped for air.
"Thank you, Agent Kai-Ming, for your cooperation." The Devil taunted.
Kai-Ming was too terrified to say anything.
"Let's go Henchman." The Devil said.
Both the Devil and Henchman walk towards the office door.
"Don't forget what'll happen to you all!" The Devil reminded them.
The Devil tapped his pitchfork and both demons disappeared back to Hell.
Kai-Ming and Hoover looked at each other, knowing they must comply with the Devil's demands to protect innocent people.
From then on, Kai-Ming kept her mouth shut about the Inkwell Isles as the case was buried. She continued working for the FBI and started to spend more time with her family, rebuilding their broken bond. Remembering she still had the door portal Gwen gave her, she secretly used it to continue learning and exploring the Inkwell Isles and kept contact with friend Gwen.
