One day in the Inkwell Isles, Gwen is out at the training grounds self-defense training. She is being chased by her trainers Ribby and Croaks, learning how to outsmart enemies. She dodged their strikes and punches until she accidentally trips on a rock and falls over. Croaks was about to strike the final blow until he stops a few inches from her nose as she flinched. He gently bops her nose and jokingly said,
"Boop!"
"Really Croaks?" Gwen asked, unamused.
"Kid, I almost got you! You need to stay focused!" Croaks said as he gripped her upper arms and lifted her back up on her feet.
Gwen sighed and said,
"Sorry. I didn't see that rock."
"Kid, you can parry your opponent's punches by knocking their blows away." Ribby said.
"Yeah, and ya gotta stop chickening out every time you get knocked down." Croaks added.
Gwen looked down and said,
"Alright, I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry kid, be better." Ribby said.
"Okay." Gwen said.
"I think that's enough training today." Croaks said as he and Ribby leave the training grounds.
Gwen returns to the cottage and rejoins her second family for dinner then heads off to bed.
She thought about the date she and Clarence were going on tomorrow evening and feared for his safety against the Devil. Then, she gets an idea and goes to sleep.
The next day, Gwen leaves the cottage after breakfast to find someone in the forest. Later, Ms. Chalice comes over to the cottage to play with Cuphead and Mugman while Gwen and Clarence went on their date together.
Gwen and Clarence went out to a nice restaurant and dine together. But unknown to the couple, the Devil was at it again, hiding in the bushes near the restaurant. He shoots a fireball at Clarence. But Clarence dropped his napkin and bends down to pick it up, just barely dodging the fireball in time, making it hit a short anthropomorphic blue blob. The blue blob growled, turned around and looked for the culprit.
"Psst!" Gwen quietly got his attention.
Gwen secretly gestured the blue blob toward the bushes where the Devil was hiding. The blue blob growled and hopped right toward the bushes. He pulled out a jellybean and swallowed it, after a few seconds he grew twice his size.
The Devil looked up at the blue blob growling angrily as he noticed the pitchfork, he used to shoot the fireball. The Devil quickly hid the pitchfork behind his back and yelped in fright until the blue blob started beating the Devil up. Gwen snickered at the Devil's misery as the blue blob slammed his body and crushed the Devil.
"YEOW! HOO! HOO! HOO!" The Devil cried in pain.
"What's going on over there?" Clarence asked, noticing the blue blob beating the Devil up.
"Oh, some idiot pranked Mr. Goopy le Grande. You do not wanna mess with him. He's meaner and tougher than he looks." Gwen answered.
"Yikes." Clarence said, wincing at whoever was in pain.
"Yeah. Anyway…" Gwen said, continuing their date.
Later, Gwen and Clarence were in the park strolling down a path. The Devil was hiding in a tree, preparing to pour a bucket of ice-cold water on Clarence. Just as the pair was about to come under the tree the Devil was hiding above, Gwen saw the Ice Cream Man's truck and led Clarence off the path to the truck to get some ice cream. The Devil grumbled angrily but accidentally poured the bucket and the ice-cold water falls on to Goopy down below.
Goopy growled again and looked up at the Devil as he gulped in fright. Goopy took another jellybean and grew giant again, grabbed the Devil and beat him up again as the Devil screamed in agony. Gwen noticed Goopy in the distance.
"You hear something kid?" Ice Cream Man asked.
"I don't think so." Gwen lied as she and Clarence were eating their ice cream cones. Gwen snickered again.
Later, Gwen and Clarence were strolling in Cagney Carnation's flower garden as they continued to eat their ice cream cones. Unknown to them, the Devil disguised as a tree to hide from Goopy waits patiently as the human couple pass him by.
But when he slowly reached out his branches to grab Clarence, a huge shadow covers the Devil. He looked up and realized too late Goopy was already above him. The Devil gulped in fear as Goopy raised his giant fist and pounded the Devil into the ground. Pain stars surround the Devil's head as he groaned in agony underground.
Cagney Carnation comes by and notices the Devil beat underground. He plucks the Devil out of the ground and threw him into a large garbage can.
"There, one less weed to worry about." Cagney said, feeling proud of himself.
It was getting dark, and Gwen and Clarence decide to sit near a pond on the grass and look at the stars. Gwen magically makes a comfy blanket, and both laid on it and looked up in the sky.
Meanwhile, the Devil now heavily bandaged with a black eye was getting fed up and devised one last attempt to ruin their date. He hides behind some trees, grabs a rope and makes a lasso and gets ready to spin it. He does so, but unknowingly threw the rope backwards. Unknown to him, Goopy took the lasso and wrapped it around a hanging beehive.
The Devil realized the rope was stuck and tries to pull it, but it won't budge. With all his might, he yanks the rope, unknowingly pulling the beehive down, smashing it to the ground. The Devil pulls his rope back, but suddenly hear loud buzzing noises. He realizes too late a swarm of enraged bees arriving and chase the Devil throughout the fields.
The Devil gets heavily stung all over his body and quickly jumped into the pond to escape the bees, thus getting Clarence's attention.
"Did you hear something?" Clarence asked, looking up and notice the bees flying away.
"Hmm, nope." Gwen lied again and smiled.
Gwen and Clarence call it a night and head back home. The Devil peeked up from the pond and noticed the bees were gone. The Devil groaned in pain as he grabbed his pitchfork and disappeared back to Hell. He goes to his personal ER to receive treatment yet again. Henchman sighed, grabbed a pair of tweezers and started picking out the bee stingers out of his boss.
"Boss, boss, boss. You could've simply left them alone, but you just had to try to get rid of the boy again, didn't you? You oughta be ashamed of yourself." Henchman scolded.
"Oh, shut up Henchman. OUCH!" The Devil cried in pain as Henchman plucked more stingers out of him.
"Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark." Henchman quietly said under his breath.
The next day, Gwen goes out in the woods and meets up with Goopy.
"Thank you so much for keeping the Devil off our backs Goopy. Clarence is safe now." Gwen thanked him.
"No problem kid. Now, do you have my payment?" Goopy asked.
"Oh, your fee. Yes, right here." Gwen said.
She reached into her satchel, pulled out a large box and hands it to Goopy. He opens it and his awestruck.
"Oh boy! Chocolates!" Goopy said excitedly.
He takes one chocolate and eats it.
"It's amazing those strange jellybeans of yours make you grow giant." Gwen complimented.
"Yep. That's how I crush my opponents kid." Goopy bragged as he ate more chocolate.
Just then, Gwen hears two familiar voices coming up the road. She realizes it was Ribby and Croaks.
"So, then what did you do?" Ribby asked his brother.
"So, I look him straight in the eye and I told him to take that offer and stick it down his…" Croaks was about to answer until they both notice Gwen and Goopy.
"Hi Ribby. Hi Croaks. How's it going?" Gwen asked with a smile.
Both frogs looked at Gwen with Goopy in confusion. They both raise their fists, ready for a fight. Goopy eats a jellybean and grew big again and raised his fists. The three jumped at each other and hit each other as Gwen watched in confusion.
"STOP!" Gwen yelled.
The three stopped fighting and looked at Gwen. She realized she yelled and calmed herself.
"Why are you three fighting each other? Nothing's wrong!" Gwen scolded.
"They started it!" Goopy pointed at the frogs.
"Enough! I'll talk to them. Thanks again Goopy." Gwen said as she walked up the frogs and led them away.
"You're welcome kid. Goodbye." Goopy said as he tipped his cap to her and hopped away with the box of chocolates.
Gwen and the frogs walk away down the road. They arrive at the pond where the Fly Trap was floating.
"Kid, what were you doing with that blue splotch?" Croaks asked her.
"What do you mean? I was just thanking him for helping me out." Gwen answered.
"Helping you out? With what?" Ribby asked.
"I needed him to protect me and Clarence from the Devil during our date yesterday. Boy, he really socked the Devil pretty good." Gwen explained and giggled.
"Kid, if you wanted to keep our 'star' and yourself safe, why didn't you come to us?" Ribby asked.
"You guys were busy working at the Fly Trap yesterday, remember? Plus, the mayor was having his dinner party there. You both had to be there to cater them." Gwen answered.
"Oh yeah." Both frogs said, now remembering.
"And Goopy was available at that time. But you guys are still my trainers. I wouldn't ever replace you guys. Goopy was just being a bodyguard for us, that's all." Gwen said, trying to reason with the frogs.
Both frog's eyes popped, get teary-eyed and smiled.
"We should've figured you'd never replace your favorite number one trainers." Ribby said.
"We're sorry we got jealous kid. It won't happen again." Croaks apologized.
"It's okay guys." Gwen said as she placed her hands on each of their fists, forgiving them.
Both frogs grab Gwen and hug her tightly, then both give her a noogie on her head. Gwen tried not to show any pain but faked a smile for them. Just then, Clarence arrives at the Fly Trap with his ukulele.
"Hey Gwen. Hey bosses." Clarence greeted.
Both frogs looked at Clarence in shock. They placed Gwen down and straightened her hair, making her presentable.
"Hey, hey. Our favorite star has arrived. We knew you'd prefer our fancy club over that wretched casino." Ribby said.
"Get inside to the dressing room and get ready. We got lots of paying customers coming to see you tonight kid! It's gonna be a full house!" Croaks ordered Clarence.
"Yes sirs." Clarence said.
"And you kid, go help him get ready!" Ribby ordered Gwen.
"Yes sir." Gwen said.
Gwen and Clarence enter the Fly Trap and she helps him get ready for his show with her magic in a dressing room.
"I'll be your fairy godmother tonight." Gwen joked.
Clarence laughed and said,
"Okay my love."
Gwen magically makes him a nice white tuxedo and makes his hair presentable. He gets up and checks himself out.
"Wow, you really outdid yourself." Clarence complimented.
"You like it?" Gwen asked.
"I love it." Clarence said as he hugged her.
Both humans kissed, until they hear a familiar voice clear her throat. Both looked and saw Ms. Chalice looking at them smugly.
"There's such a thing as knocking Chalice!" Gwen scolded.
"Aw come on girlfriend, handsome's not starting the show without his young partner." Ms. Chalice said with big smile and a tap-dance.
Gwen shook her head, knowing Ms. Chalice liked to charm her way out of trouble.
"Alright, you ready? No butterflies this time?" Gwen asked Clarence, handing him his ukulele.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Clarence answered.
Both humans and Ms. Chalice exit the dressing room and peeked out and saw a full house of customers at all the tables.
"Wow, Ribby and Croaks weren't kidding! It's a full house!" Gwen said.
"Awesome!" Ms. Chalice said.
Clarence and Ms. Chalice get ready as Ribby and Croaks started their opening with their comedy.
"And now, the human you all paid to come and see here tonight, please welcome our star, Clarence Hopewell!" Ribby announced as the music started to play.
Clarence danced, played his ukulele and scatted. Ms. Chalice dances along with him, making the audience applaud loudly.
"Thank you Ribby and Croaks. It's a real pleasure to be here tonight folks! My little partner Ms. Chalice and I got a real show for you all here tonight! So, are you ready?" Clarence announced in the microphone.
The audience cheers as Clarence prepared himself. Clarence started his show with his list of songs and Ms. Chalice wowed the audience with her dancing and scatting.
"Alright then, let's finish tonight off with a special song dedicated to my manager, the love of my life who helped me turn my life around." Clarence announced.
The audience awed as Gwen smiled from backstage. Clarence played the opening notes to the song and started to sing.
"I had nothing since my beginning
No family or home of my very own
Just my charm, my dancing and singing
It's the only life I've ever known
But then I saw you and asked you to dance
Then I stumbled on your whole new world
But you've given me a new chance
And now my new life has unfurled
You light up my dark room
Making my heart very bright
You made my flower bloom
Because you are my light
You've had it hard too with your past
You felt alone with no friends or glee
Even with the magic you've been cast
Your heart desired to be wild and free
But then you saw me and took a chance
You danced with me and got me on my feet
I still remember our very first dance
And now you made my heart complete
You light up my dark room
Making my heart very bright
You made my flower bloom
Because you are my light
Since we've met our lives have been greater
Despite problems, we'll get through thick and thin
But whatever comes our way in our lives later
We'll pull through with our love and light to win
You light up my dark room
Making my heart very bright
You made my flower bloom
Because you are my light
Because you are my light."
The audience cheered loudly, and all stood up. Gwen had tears of joy coming out of her eyes from backstage. Ms. Chalice jumped up into Gwen's arms and hugged her.
"Aw, girlfriend. Don't cry. He wrote that song just for you." Ms. Chalice said.
"Yeah, nobody's ever done anything like that for me before." Gwen said through her tears.
"Thank you everyone! You've been a wonderful audience! Good night!" Clarence called out and danced offstage.
He notices Gwen crying with Ms. Chalice hugging her.
"Hey, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Clarence asked as he placed his hand on Gwen's shoulder.
"Aw handsome, she loves your song. I told you she'd be blown away." Ms. Chalice said.
Ms. Chalice said and released Gwen, hopped down and walked off to the dressing room. Gwen wiped her tears and embraced Clarence.
"That was… beautiful." Gwen said.
"Thank you. I thought you'd love it." Clarence said.
They both shared another kiss as the Fly Trap landed near the shore and the guests were leaving. Ribby and Croaks collected tips they received from their customers and are happy with another successful night.
Meanwhile, down in the depths of Hell, the Devil was watching the whole time as rage built up in him. He growled furiously over the beautiful song Clarence sang to Gwen.
"Aww, that was so beautiful." Henchman said, wiping a few tears.
BONK!
The Devil hit Henchman on his head with his pitchfork.
"Ow. That hurt boss." Henchman said, holding his head in pain.
"That's it!" The Devil yelled.
He walks off, seething in anger and fury.
"I'm gonna really give that boy all I've got!" The Devil said.
"But boss, Gwen's very smart and she's doing everything in her power to make sure he's protected from you! Especially now that she's hired him a bodyguard!" Henchman protested.
"Then I'm going to have to take it to another level! Since that idiot Dice failed to kill him last time, I guess I gotta do everything around here myself!" The Devil snapped.
"Aw jeez." Henchman said worryingly.
The next morning, Gwen was on a morning stroll in the forest. She finds herself at the cliff where Cuphead used the Devil's pitchfork to create the 'Mount Mugmore'. She winced at the painful memory of learning about her parent's abduction and Mugman's kidnapping.
"Why won't he leave me alone? Why won't he just let me live my life? Same thing with Clarence and my two families?" Gwen asked herself.
Suddenly, she hears a familiar explosion sound, startling her.
"Ha!" The Devil exclaimed.
Gwen loses her balance and accidentally falls over the cliff. The Devil realizes his mistake too late and gasped.
"Oh no! What've I done?!" The Devil exclaimed.
The Devil shapeshifted into his dragon form and flies down the cliff. He notices Gwen laying on the ground unconscious. The Devil flies down and observes her body and notices a bump on her head.
"Ouch." The Devil said, wincing at the sight of the bump.
He shapeshifted to his normal self, lifts Gwen up in his arms, tapped his pitchfork and disappeared to Hell.
Meanwhile, back at the cottage, Clarence along with Goopy arrive at the cottage to visit Gwen. He knocks at the door but Cuphead and Mugman answer.
"Hi Clarence!" Both cups greeted.
"Hey guys! Is Gwen home?" Clarence asked.
"She just went on a walk. But she should be back soon." Mugman answered.
"Oh, okay. I'll just catch up with her. Which way did she go?" Clarence asked.
Both cups point at a path into the forest.
"Thanks guys!" Clarence thanked as he and Goopy leave.
Clarence follows the path up to Mount Mugmore with Goopy watching his back.
"Hmm. Something's not right." Goopy said, observing the area.
"What do you mean?" Clarence asked.
"Look, her tracks end here at the edge of the cliff but look there. A new pair of footprints are right there and they're bigger than her feet." Goopy said, observing the tracks.
"What?" Clarence asked, now growing nervous.
Clarence looked down the cliff but saw no one at the bottom except a few marks on the ground.
"Hey, you don't think the Devil could've ambushed her, knocked her over the cliff and fell down there?" Clarence asked nervously.
"Hmm, that is quite possible. Judging from those marks on the ground, it looks like it happened not too long ago." Goopy said, observing the ground below.
"This isn't good. Come on, we better get the cups. She could be in trouble again." Clarence said worryingly.
Both Clarence and Goopy head back to the cottage to get the cups for help.
Meanwhile, Gwen wakes up in a hospital bed. Gwen looks around, looking confused on where she was.
"Oh, my head!" Gwen said as he felt a painful headache.
"W-w-where am I? Wait, who am I? Why can't I remember anything?" Gwen said, unaware her memory was gone.
Just then, she hears someone coming. She feels scared and pretends to fall asleep. The Devil along with the doctor imp and Henchman walk inside the emergency room.
"So, doctor, how's Gwen's head?" The Devil asked.
"Well, she's got a really bad bump from that really nasty fall. She may suffer from amnesia." The doctor explained.
"Will she get her memories back doc?" Henchman asked.
"I don't know. They may or may not. That depends on the severity of her injury." The doctor said.
The Devil's eyes popped, then smiled evilly getting another idea.
"I couldn't have planned it better myself. I'll convince her she's my fiancée and that were engaged. Then, she'll have to believe we are a couple and she'll fall in love with me!" The Devil explained his evil scheme.
"I dunno boss. Her memory maybe gone, but she's still herself." Henchman warned.
"Oh, shut up! Now, I better check on my fiancée." The Devil said.
He goes up to Gwen sleeping in her bed. The Devil quietly sneaks the engagement ring on her left ring finger, then he gives Gwen a kiss on the cheek, making her wake up.
"Huh?" Gwen said, waking up.
"Oh Gwen! You're awake my love!" The Devil said, pretending to be relieved and gives her a hug.
Gwen sat there, confused.
"Uh… who are you? And Gwen is my name? And why did you call me 'love'?" Gwen asked.
"What? You don't remember?" The Devil asked, pretending to be shocked.
Gwen shook her head.
"Not to worry my love. I'll fill in for you. You see…"
The Devil lies about Gwen being his longtime girlfriend and that he just recently proposed to her. She already said yes and got too excited she fell down the cliff and injured her head, thus coming to her 'rescue'.
"So… you're my fiancé? And I said, 'yes' to your proposal?" Gwen asked, confused.
"Yes, my dear. Take a look at your finger." The Devil said, pointing at her finger.
Gwen looked at her left hand and saw the blue diamond engagement ring.
"Oh, I guess so." Gwen said, feeling nervous.
"I know marriage feels so sudden and scary. But don't worry, when you feel better, we'll seal the deal and be happy together forever." The Devil assured her as he gives her a hug.
"Uh… okay?" Gwen said, unsure.
Gwen feels a little uncomfortable but feels good about his embrace and goes with it. The Devil smiled evilly, knowing he was reeling her in like a fish on a hook.
Back at the surface, Clarence gathers the cups and inform them of Gwen's disappearance. The group go to a private area of the forest and Cuphead once again uses the magic chalk to summon the elevator. After reciting the incantation, the elevator appeared from the ground.
"Okay guys, let's go!" Clarence said.
The cups and Goopy enter the elevator, close the door and push the down button. The elevator disappears into the ground. The group arrive in Hell and the group open the door to make sure the coast was clear. They don't find anyone around and sneak out of the elevator. Remembering where the ER was, Clarence leads the group down the hallway.
Just then, they hear the Devil and Henchman coming.
"Uh oh! Quick hide!" Cuphead exclaimed.
The group take cover behind a huge rock and overhear the Devil laughing.
"I tell you Henchman; this is all too easy! She doesn't remember anything about herself or
the cups or even that idiot boy!" The Devil happily said.
"Yeah, it is." Henchman nervously agreed.
"So, now that she thinks we're engaged, I'll have the minister perform the ceremony quickly. Then we'll say our vows, then we'll officially be married!" The Devil explained his evil plan and snickered evilly.
"I dunno about this boss." Henchman said nervously.
"Don't worry, Henchman. This time, there'll be no mistakes!" The Devil warned and both walk away.
They group was in shock about what they just overheard.
"Gwen's lost her memories and now doesn't remember us?!" Cuphead asked shockingly.
"And now she thinks she's engaged to the Devil!" Mugman added fearfully.
"Guys! Calm down! We'll find a way to get her to remember us and stop this!" Clarence said, calming down the cups.
The boys took a deep breath.
"Hey yeah, if anyone can help her remember us, its us!" Cuphead said, agreeing with Clarence.
"Yeah! And we'll each tell her the good times we had together, that'll help her remember!" Mugman added.
"I'll do my share too. Let's go!" Clarence said.
The group sneak their way into the ER and hide behind some medical equipment. They find Gwen lying in bed looking at the engagement ring.
"Pss! Gwen!" Cuphead whispered.
Gwen gasped and looked around.
"Who's there?" Gwen asked.
"It's us! Your best friends!" Mugman whispered.
"Best friends?" Gwen asked.
Just then, Cuphead and Mugman appeared on the side of her bed with big smiles as Gwen gasped.
"Who are you? And how do you know me?" Gwen asked nervously.
"Gweny, it's us! Cuphead and Mugman! We took you in after we found you in the cottage, you became our housekeeper and protected us from the Devil!" Cuphead explained.
"I… I did?" Gwen asked, feeling confused.
"Yeah, and we had so many fun adventures together! We even helped you reunite with your family in the human world after we rescued them!" Mugman added.
"My family? Human world?" Gwen asked, trying to remember.
"Yes! And you found true love with the best singer and ukulele player Clarence Hopewell!" Cuphead said.
"Clarence?" Gwen asked.
Clarence and Goopy come out of the shadows.
"Yes Gwen. You are the reason I have a life. I was a poor, homeless boy until you took a chance on me and helped me get back on my feet. And I love you." Clarence said as he held Gwen's hands.
Gwen is shocked at their stories, but then something seemed familiar about them.
"Something about you Clarence seems familiar. But I don't know what it is. The Devil said he is my fiancé and that we're getting married soon." Gwen said.
"Ol' Buttscratch lies a lot. He made it all up! He's your most hated enemy!" Cuphead said.
"He's just marrying you to obtain the powers of the magic inkwell! He doesn't really love you!" Mugman added.
"He doesn't deserve someone with a beautiful heart and soul like you Gwen." Clarence said, recalling what Quadratus said about her.
"I don't understand." Gwen said, feeling scared.
Clarence thought for a moment until Goopy whispered something.
"Oh yeah!" Clarence said.
"What?" Gwen asked.
Goopy handed Clarence his ukulele and hopped at the entrance of the ER to keep watch. Clarence played his ukulele and began to sing.
"You light up my dark room
Making my heart very bright
You made my flower bloom
Because you are my light
Because you are my light."
Gwen was moved with tears when suddenly, her eyes widened and looked at the engagement ring on her finger in horror.
"What am I doing?!" Gwen said frantically and removed the ring from her finger and threw it.
"I think she's remembering!" Cuphead said with a smile.
"Come on Gweny! Remember us!" Mugman encouraged her.
"You never gave up on me or them! So, we're never giving up on you!" Clarence said, encouraging her.
Gwen breathed heavily and looked at Clarence. Her eyes started to tear up and she started to cry. Clarence gives her a hug and embraces her.
"I'm so sorry Clarence. I don't know why this happened." Gwen said through her tears.
"Hey, it's okay. It's not your fault. Goopy will tell you." Clarence said.
Goopy hopped to Gwen.
"I found out you were on your stroll in the forest when the Devil ambushed you and you fell over the cliff and hit your head really bad. Then, he kidnapped you and brought you here and took advantage of your memory loss and tricked you into thinking you are his fiancée." Goopy explained.
Gwen felt rage building up inside of her. Then, she remembered something.
"Wait, where's my inkwell and ink pen?"
"We got it for ya." Both cups answered.
Cuphead lifted up the magic inkwell and Mugman held up the ink pen.
"Oh, you guys are the best!" Gwen said happily as she embraced them.
"You're our sister Gweny." Cuphead said.
"You're one of the four ding-dongs." Mugman added.
"True." Gwen said.
Then Goopy hopped back towards the group.
"Everyone! The Devil is coming with Henchman and a minister!" Goopy warned.
The cups and humans gasped.
"Honey, would you like to do the honors?" Clarence asked.
"With pleasure. Hey Goopy, mind if I use a little magic on you? I got an idea." Gwen asked.
"Of course. Just give me two more boxes of chocolates afterwards. I loved those chocolates you gave me." Goopy stated his conditions.
"Done." Gwen agreed.
Clarence lifted Gwen out of bed. Gwen uses her ink pen to transform Goopy. She has him get in the hospital bed as Gwen whispered the plan to Goopy, making him snicker.
"You got it!" Goopy said.
The humans and cups take cover behind the medical equipment as the Devil along with Henchman and the minister approach 'Gwen' in her hospital bed.
"Ah, there you are darling. Are you ready to seal the deal?" The Devil asked.
'Gwen' nodded.
"Wonderful! Then, let's get started!" The Devil said excitedly.
The Devil stood next to 'Gwen' in the hospital bed as the minister opened his book.
"Do you the Devil take this human girl to be your lawful wedded wife?" The minister asked.
"I do!" The Devil said excitedly.
"And do you Gwendolyn Mae Emmons take this demon to be your lawful wedded husband?" The minister asked 'Gwen.'?
"She does." The Devil quickly said.
"Then, if there is nobody here who objects to this union…" The minister was about to say until 'Gwen' interrupted.
"Wait! Just one thing before you pronounce us!" 'Gwen' said.
She pulls out two jellybeans and swallowed it.
"Uh, anyway. If there is nobody here who objects to this union, I now pronounce you…" The minister almost finished until suddenly, 'Gwen' started growing.
"What the? What's happening to…? Oh no! Not you again!" The Devil realized too late it was all another trick.
Goopy finally removed the illusion spell Gwen casted on him and looked down at the Devil menacingly, cracking his knuckles.
"Not again." The Devil said nervously.
Goopy snatched the Devil in his fist and beat him up severely until he was injured once again. Goopy placed the Devil in the hospital bed and turned to Henchman and the minister.
"Alright, who's next?" Goopy asked menacingly.
Both Henchman and the minister gulped and quickly run away as Goopy laughed. The humans and cups come out laughing too as Goopy shrunk back to his normal size. Gwen tapped the ink pen and they all disappeared back to the cottage.
"Thank you so much Goopy. We couldn't have done it without you." Clarence thanked.
"No problem. He was asking for it." Goopy bragged.
Then, he turned his attention to Gwen.
"Miss Emmons, my fee please." Goopy reminded her.
"Of course. I remembered." Gwen said as she handed him two boxes of his favorite chocolates.
"Oh boy!" Goopy said excitedly as he opened a box and started eating some chocolates.
"Well, see you later!" Goopy tipped his cap goodbye and hopped away.
"Well, now that's been taken care of, what do you guys wanna do now?" Gwen asked the boys.
The cups thought for a moment until Cuphead got an idea.
"I know! Wanna go watch the firework show?" Cuphead asked.
"Oh yeah, that's tonight!" Clarence said.
Later, the humans and cups with Ms. Chalice joining them all lay on the hill beneath the tree waiting for the firework show to start. Gwen and Clarence were laying on their comfy blanket as Gwen felt guilty.
"Gwen? You, okay?" Clarence asked noticing.
"I'm sorry I didn't remember you or the cups." Gwen apologized.
"Gwen, it wasn't your fault. The Devil tricked you again." Clarence assured her.
"But you and the cups never gave up on me. I'm so touched." Gwen said.
"Of course, we didn't. You never gave up on them or me either." Clarence said.
Gwen thought for a moment, then remembered Quadratus's advice.
"Oh. Quadratus once said to me that anything is possible with love and friendship and to trust my friends." Gwen said.
"He told you that?" Clarence asked.
"Yeah, the night the cups brought me to him to seek protection from the Devil." Gwen said, recalling that memory.
"Gwen, you really are my light." Clarence said, remembering his song.
Gwen smiled and said,
"And you are mine."
Then she and Clarence share another kiss until suddenly, a firework shot into the sky.
"Oh, guys! It's starting!" Ms. Chalice said excitedly.
The group all watch the firework show together as Clarence and Gwen snuggled on their blanket, happy that Gwen was back to her old self and things were back to normal for now.
