It was morning in the fourth isle of the Inkwell Isles and Gwen and her friends prepare to take on the five challenges to earn the five ingredients they need to bake the Wondertart.

After breakfast, Gwen and her friends leave the bakery to start their quest with Cerulean Bolt tagging along.

"I wonder where we should go first?" Gwen asked.

"Hmm, maybe we could start off easy. The desert looks a little safer." Rose suggested.

"Scaredy-cat." Ms. Chalice taunted.

"Chalice!" Rose scolded.

"Or maybe the underground tunnels." Clarence suggested.

"Nah, lets try the hangar!" Cuphead said.

"Or the tundra!" Mugman added.

"GUYS!" Gwen snapped.

Everyone stopped and looked at Gwen. Cerulean Bolt tapped Gwen's shoulder and pointed towards the mountains.

"Sorry, um. I was thinking, since we're near the mountains, why don't we go there first? Maybe this Glumstone guy will be nice." Gwen suggested.

Rose sighed then she said,

"Fine. The mountains it is."

They start their way toward the mountains. They look around for some clue until Gwen noticed something odd.

"Hey guys, look!" Gwen said and pointed at something.

They notice a path that was furry white.

"How odd. A white furry path?" Cuphead asked.

"Maybe it'll lead us to the gnome berries." Mugman said.

"Well, let's follow it and find out." Ms. Chalice agreed.

Rose was unsure but follows them on the path. Clarence feels the white fur with his hand until he realizes something.

"Wait, is this… hair?" Clarence asked.

"Hair?" Gwen asked.

Gwen along with Rose feel the hair on the path.

"Strange. Why would a path be made of hair?" Gwen asked.

"I dunno." Cuphead said.

Just then, Mugman noticed a little blue triangle sticking out of the hair.

"Ooh, what's this?" Mugman asked.

Mugman pinched the blue triangle and… POP!

Out came a little gnome, to the group's shock.

"Hey you big ol' scrap! I was taking my beauty nap!" The little gnome yelled in a high-pitched voice.

Mugman freaked out, then dropped the little gnome.

"Oh, forgive my friend! He didn't realize you were in there sleeping!" Gwen apologized for Mugman.

"My hat is now loosen! Whaddya want human?!" The gnome angrily asked.

"Uh, we're looking for someone named Glumstone. Do you know him?" Gwen asked.

"Well, duh! You're on the path to him lady! Just keep going maybe! You'll find him up ahead toward the light! Now, good night!" The gnome angrily yelled.

The gnome hopped back into the white hair and went back to sleep.

"Wow, he was rude." Cuphead said as he snapped the hat.

"I heard that! Don't touch my hat!" The gnome yelled.

Rose facepalmed at Cuphead.

"Well, you heard the little guy. Let's keep moving." Clarence said.

The group continued up the path until they finally reached what appeared to be a snowy goldmine. There they find more little blue pointed hats along with teal and pink hats in the white hair.

They also noticed a fenced garden with a strawberry sign along with a 'Keep Out!' sign.

"These must be the gnome berries." Rose said.

"But why keep a garden of them near a goldmine?" Ms. Chalice asked.

"Hey, look! Gold!" Cuphead exclaimed.

He picks up a pickaxe and goes near the entrance.

"Cuphead! I don't think that's such a good idea! I think that gold belongs to someone!" Mugman scolded.

"Aw, relax Mugsy. What harm could it do?" Cuphead asked.

Cuphead swung the pickaxe and picked a gold rock when all of a sudden, the ground started shaking.

"Oh, nice job Cuphead! You started an earthquake!" Gwen scolded.

Just then, the goldmine shook violently, forcing Cuphead to retreat to the group. The goldmine shook until finally… BOOM!

The goldmine exploded the rocks, revealing an enormous, white-bearded mountain giant whose head, and mouth was the goldmine. The humans and cups trembled in fear as the giant yawned and looked down at the group angrily.

"G-g-g-g-giants a-a-a-are r-r-r-r-real?!" Rose asked in a trembling voice.

"WHO DARES WAKE ME UP?!" The giant boomed angrily.

"Run!" All three cups yelled.

The humans and cups make a run for it back down the mountain. But the giant shook his beard, making the group trip and fall. Then, he reaches his enormous hands and scooped the cups up and placed them in a cage.

Next, he reaches his hand and scooped Rose, Cerulean Bolt and Clarence, putting them in another cage. He realized Gwen was missing and started looking for her.

"WHERE ARE YOU LITTLE GIRL?!" The giant boomed as he moved some trees, searching for Gwen.

Meanwhile, Gwen was hiding beneath near a rock cave, waiting for the giant to go away. Just then, she heard growling noise, making her eyes widen. She slowly turned around to see a large angry brown bear growling at her.

"Uh oh." Gwen said in a fearful tone.

The bear loudly roared in her face. Gwen tried to reach for her ink pen until the bear tried to swipe his claws at her. She barely dodges in time and tried to make a run for it. The bear chased her all the way towards a cliff.

Realizing she didn't have Cerulean Bolt to fly her, she realized she'd have to jump. The bear charges at Gwen, only for her to jump over the cliff and fall down the mountain. But before she could make her next move, she realized too late the giant's enormous hand stretched out below her and opened his hand.

"No! No! No! NO!" Gwen yelled.

But it was too late. Gwen landed in the giant's palm and closed his hand, trapping her inside.

"No! Let me out! Let me out!" Gwen yelled, knocking at the giant's fingers.

After a while of traveling, the giant finally opened his hand. Gwen cowered in fear as the giant looked at her confused.

The giant gently tapped Gwen on her back. She peeked up and saw the giant.

"P-p-p-p-please don't eat us!" Gwen begged.

The giant's eyes popped.

"ME? EAT YOU?!"

The giant boomed and laughed along with the little gnomes popping out of the white hair, which is revealed to be the giant's long white beard.

Gwen is confused as she looked in shock at all the gnomes. The cups and humans were just as confused as she was.

"No, little girl. I won't eat you." The giant assured her.

Gwen gets up on her knees.

"Then, why did you capture us? To grind our bones to make your bread?" Gwen asked.

The giant looked confused.

"EW! Where did you hear that icky, disgusting idea little girl?" The giant asked.

"Uh…" Gwen hesitated to answer.

"Now, why have you come to my mountain?" The giant asked.

"I, uh…" Gwen hesitated to answer until Rose yelled,

"Just tell him already!"

"I'm getting to it!" Gwen yelled back.

"SILENCE!" The giant boomed.

Rose cowered in fear as Clarence patted her back, trying to comfort her.

"It's okay." Clarence assured her.

"Um, we're looking for someone named… Glumstone?" Gwen nervously asked.

"Glumstone? Why, you're looking at him." The giant revealed himself to be Glumstone.

Gwen was shocked.

"W-w-w-wait. You're Glumstone?" Gwen asked.

"Yes! Now, why have you come to my mountain?" Glumstone asked again.

Gwen gulped as she stood on her feet.

"Forgive us for disturbing you, but we've come seeking the gnome berries." Gwen finally answered.

Glumstone's' eyes popped as the gnomes gasped.

"You dare ask me for my beloved gnome berries?!" Glumstone boomed, making Gwen cower again in his palm.

Glumstone loses patience and pinched Gwen's shirt and lifted her up to his face.

"For a little human, you have a lot of nerve coming here to ask for my gnome berries! Many have tried to steal my beloved berries, but all failed and suffered the consequences!" Glumstone said.

"B-b-b-but, what do I need to do to earn them? I would never steal from you or anyone!" Gwen begged.

Glumstone looked at the magic inkwell and realized something.

"Wait! You're not just any little human!" Glumstone said as he gently pointed at her inkwell.

"You are the little human with the magic inkwell from the human world!" Glumstone exclaimed, making the gnomes gasp.

"Uh… yes?" Gwen nervously confirmed.

"Hmm… what is your name little girl?" Glumstone asked.

"Gwendolyn Mae Emmons. Call me Gwen." Gwen introduced.

"Gwen…" Glumstone said, learning her name.

"And my friends you captured are Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice. And the humans are my sister Rose and my fiancé Clarence. And my magic carpet Cerulean Bolt." Gwen introduced the group.

"I see. If you really want some of my gnome berries, you will have to earn them. Would you be willing to face a challenge?" Glumstone asked.

"Yes, of course. What kind of challenge?" Gwen asked.

"A very gruesome, dangerous and… disgusting challenge." Glumstone answered.

Gwen gulped, fearing the first challenge was going to be disgusting.

"I'll accept your challenge… if you release my friends, sister, carpet and fiancé." Gwen stated her conditions.

"Alright." Glumstone agreed.

Glumstone pointed at the cages, gesturing the gnomes to open the cages and releasing the group.

Later, all the gnomes including the cups, Rose, Clarence and Cerulean Bolt were seated in arena-like seats as Glumstone placed Gwen down on his beard laying on the ground.

"I hope this challenge won't be deadly." Rose said to Clarence.

"Me too. But Gwen can handle anything." Clarence said.

"We believe in her." Ms. Chalice said.

"Yeah, Gwen can do it." Cuphead exclaimed.

"Yeah, well it's been nice knowing her." Mugman said nervously.

Cerulean Bolt slapped Mugman with his tassel-hand.

"OW!" Mugman exclaimed in pain.

Gwen took a deep breath.

"Okay, what's your challenge?" Gwen bravely asked.

"I have a really bad tummy-ache." Glumstone answered.

Gwen looked confused.

"What does that have to do with the challenge?" Gwen asked.

"Here is your challenge: If you can find the source of my tummy ache and cure me, some of my gnome berries will be yours." Glumstone explained.

"That's it?" Gwen asked.

"Yes, that is it." Glumstone confirmed.

"Okay, how hard can it be?" Gwen said as she got out her ink pen.

She magically conjures up a giant glass of water with two giant pills.

"What is this?" Glumstone asked.

"It's medicine. Take them! It should help!" Gwen answered.

Glumstone took the medicine and drank the water. They waited for a while, but Glumstone did not feel better.

"That did not work!" Glumstone scolded.

"Oh, okay um…" Gwen said as she thought of another idea.

She magically conjures up a giant bottle of ginger ale.

"Here! Drink this!" Gwen said.

Glumstone opens the bottle and drinks the ginger ale.

"Ahh…" Glumstone sighed happily.

Just then, a rumbling in his stomach was heard.

"Uh oh…" Gwen said worryingly.

Realizing what was about to happen, Gwen quickly takes cover behind a rock as the gnomes and her friends all rush for cover.

With all his might, Glumstone let out a loud, ear-piercing belch, making the ground shake like an earthquake. Gwen and the others covered their ears as he continued belching until he stopped.

Everyone came out of hiding and sat back in their seats.

"Wow. That was quite a burp." Gwen said shockingly.

"Ahh… Ohhh…" Glumstone sighed happily but then started feeling sick again.

Gwen facepalmed, realizing that also didn't work.

"UGH! This is harder than I thought! What else could it be?!" Gwen asked herself frustratingly.

Gwen thought for a moment, trying to think of another option.

"Wow, this is harder than we thought." Clarence said.

"Yeah. It's kinda like the time papa had a really bad ulcer and when nothing worked, he had to get…" Rose said until she realized something in horror.

"What? What did Edgar have to get?" Clarence asked.

"Oh no. I shouldn't say it." Rose said fearfully.

"Rose, please? What happened?" Clarence asked, insisting on knowing.

"He… um… had to get… surgery to remove it." Rose nervously answered.

"Oh, well at least he's alive… Oh…" Clarence said until he realized what Rose was thinking.

"Oh no… that means Gwen's gotta…" Clarence said nervously.

"SHH!" Rose shushed him.

But Gwen overheard them and realized she has to do something drastic.

"Oh no. I can't…" Gwen said fearfully.

"What?" Glumstone asked.

"I… uh… this may sound strange but… I'm afraid I need to… do something drastic…" Gwen nervously answered.

"What is that?" Glumstone asked.

Gwen gulped in fear and said,

"I… think I need to…" Gwen struggled to finish her sentence.

"What?" Glumstone asked impatiently.

"I… may need to… go inside you... to find the source." Gwen finally answered as she felt disgusted.

"Oh…" Glumstone said, knowing what she was going to do.

Glumstone reached for Gwen, pinched her shirt and lifted her above his head. Rose cowered in fear, unable to watch her sister get devoured. Clarence has Rose hide in his chest as she started tearing up.

"It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay." Clarence tried to calm her down.

"Are you ready?" Glumstone asked.

Gwen gulped as she looked down.

"Yes, I'm ready." Gwen nervously said.

Glumstone widely opened his mouth and dropped Gwen and she fell inside his mouth. He swallowed her alive as Rose cringed and started crying.

"It's okay! It's okay!" Clarence said fearfully.

Meanwhile, Gwen is falling down the throat until she finally reached down to his stomach. She makes herself land safely on skeletal remains floating on the stomach acid. Gwen breathed heavily from being eaten and swallowed alive. She looked around the stomach in horror, realizing she really was inside the organs of another living being.

"Oh wow… so this is what it's like to be eaten." Gwen said to herself.

Gwen tries to snap out of it and tried to focus on the challenge.

"Okay, find the source. Find the source." Gwen reminded herself.

She looked around the stomach walls until she noticed something odd. She noticed an ulcer on the stomach wall.

"An ulcer. So that's it!" Gwen said figuring it out.

She grabbed her ink pen and prepared to remove it. But to her shock, the ulcer opened its eyes and spat bones at her.

Gwen screamed and dodged the bones from knocking her into the stomach acid. Gwen fired her range of attacks at the ulcer. But the ulcer wasn't going down without a fight and kept spitting bones at her. Gwen used her cyan-beam attack and shot a blast at the ulcer, finishing it off.

Gwen sighed of relief until she suddenly noticed the stomach shaking. The stomach walls started shooting out acids and enzymes, making her realize his stomach muscles were activating.

"Oh no! Digestion!" Gwen said fearfully.

Gwen knew it was time for her to leave or else she will be digested and dead. Gwen fearfully tried to think of an escape. Just then she noticed high-pitched voices coming from above. To her shock, a chain of gnomes come down to the stomach and one gnome reached for Gwen's hand.

She quickly grabbed on, and the gnomes pull her up and out of the stomach just in time before the stomach muscles started mixing the digestive juices. The gnomes pull Gwen up through the throat and out of Glumstone's mouth. Gwen lands safely on Glumstone's hand as she caught her breath and laid in his palm exhausted.

"You did it. You cured me. You succeeded the challenge." Glumstone congratulated.

All the gnomes cheered her on as Rose looked and saw her sister pulled back out to safety. Rose sighed of relief, knowing her sister was alive and unharmed. Some gnomes tend to Gwen, cleaning her up and giving her water until she was strong enough to stand up again.

After resting, Gwen rejoined her friends and sister. Both sisters embraced each other.

"Gwen! I thought you were dead!" Rose exclaimed tearfully.

"Nah. It takes more than that to get rid of me." Gwen bragged.

Clarence hugged both girls.

"So, you got rid of the ulcer?" Clarence asked.

"Yes." Gwen answered.

All three cups embraced Gwen.

"You're alive!" Mugman exclaimed.

"You nearly gave us a heart attack!" Cuphead scolded.

"Yeah. Don't go doing stuff like that again girlfriend." Ms. Chalice added.

"I hope I never have to do that again. It's more disgusting than I thought." Gwen agreed.

Cerulean Bolt flew up to Gwen and gestured her to get on.

"You're right buddy. I think we've had enough fun for one day. Let's head back." Gwen said.

Before Gwen and the others could get on Cerulean Bolt, Glumstone stopped them.

"Wait! You've forgotten something." Glumestone said.

A group of gnomes carry a gnome-hat full of gnome berries and give it to Gwen.

"Oh, right. Thank you." Gwen thanked.

"My pleasure. Well, good day to you all." Glumstone said and waved goodbye.

Gwen waved goodbye as Cerulean Bolt took off and flew back to town. The group sighed of relief, happy to have completed the first challenge.

"Well, that's one down and four more to go." Gwen said as she checks off the gnome berries on the Wondertart recipe.

"Gwen, you gotta be more careful! You could've been killed inside of him!" Rose scolded.

"I know. I'll be more careful next time." Gwen assured her.

Just then, a ladder suddenly dropped down in front of the group. They are puzzled and look up and notice the ladder came from a large cloud above them.

"What the?" Cuphead said.

"I wonder where that goes?" Ms. Chalice asked.

"Only one way to find out." Gwen said.

"Gwen, no. It could be a trap." Rose protested.

"I don't think it is. I'll check it out." Gwen said.

Gwen grabbed the ladder and started climbing up while the others waited. Gwen climbed above the cloud and to her shock, she finds herself at a floating castle with anthropomorphic king chess piece dressed like a king waiting for her holding a scepter.

She hears a choir singing a song greeting her.

"The King of Games greets you.

With pomp and much and much ado.

To thine's own game, play true.

Or thus thou fate shall rue!"

"King of Games?" Gwen asked.

"Hail ye, fair maiden! I bid thee welcome to my floating palace. I am the one true king… the King of Games!" The King of Games greeted Gwen.

"Uh… hello, your majesty. Should I be wondering why I'm here?" Gwen asked as she gave a little curtsy.

"From afar, I have seen you battle with zeal and aplomb. And lo! I grant thee a place in my royal tourney." The King of Games answered.

Gwen stood puzzled, not having a clue what he was talking about.

"He means you are worthy to fight in his tournament or something." Rose answered as the group joined Gwen above the clouds.

"Really?" Gwen asked.

"Aye. In these bouts, your weapons and powers shan't be of use. You'll have to find different means to best my champions." The King of Games answered.

"Oh, so I can't use the magic inkwell? Just my wits and skills?" Gwen asked.

"Aye. From victories, riches! Now, into the fray, with haste!" The King of Games said.

The King of Games opens the door to her first round. Gwen took a deep breath and hesitantly took her inkwell and ink pen off her belt and handed them to Rose.

"Hold these. I won't be long." Gwen said.

"Be careful Gwen." Rose said.

Clarence nodded, agreeing with Rose. Gwen bravely enters the floating palace. She didn't know what to expect. Then, she enters a room with a hall with a pawn symbol on a tapestry and wooden beams above her.

Suddenly, the door closed behind her, and she noticed above her eight anthropomorphic pawn chess pieces land on the wooden beam, booing at her.

"Pawns?" Gwen asked.

The pawns laugh at her as they prepared to attack. Gwen prepares herself as one the pawns jump off the wooden beam and charges at her. Unsure what to do, she unintentionally throws a punch at the pawn's head, thus knocking it clean off.

Gwen gets an idea as another pawn jumps off. Remembering her training from Ribby and Croaks, she prepares with her fists for another attack. She once again punches another pawn's head off until she noticed another pawn attacking from behind and dodged quickly. She kept up with her tactic until finally, she knocked the last head off the last pawn, thus winning the first round.

Gwen breathed heavily as the door opened, releasing her from the castle. Gwen exits the castle and meets the King of Games outside. The group sigh of relief, seeing Gwen safe and unharmed.

"That wasn't so bad." Gwen said.

The King of Games hold out a bag of gold.

"With this valiant victory, I bestow riches unto thee!" The King of Games announced.

Gwen takes the gold from the king, feeling proud of herself.

"Thank you, your majesty." Gwen thanked.

"And now, away with ye!" The King of Games said and waved goodbye.

Gwen rejoins the group on Cerulean Bolt and flies away from the floating palace.

"How'd it go?" Clarence asked.

"Oh, I literally knocked the heads off eight annoying pawns with my fists." Gwen answered.

"That's it?" Cuphead asked.

"At least it was safe for her." Mugman said.

"Sounds boring." Ms. Chalice said.

"I think his challenges are gonna get harder." Gwen guessed.

"Forget it, Gwen. Let's just get back to the bakery. I'm starving." Rose said.

The group flies back to the bakery. They enter and seat themselves at the table. Just then, Chef Saltbaker with a platter of spinach, artichoke and chicken puff pastries.

"You're all just in time for supper!" Chef Saltbaker greeted the group.

"Yay!" The three cups cheered.

They all once again dined together and socialized. After dessert, Rose and Clarence go upstairs to their rooms while the cups played with their toys. Gwen was still sitting at the table, looking at the gnome berries she won earlier, thinking about what the other four challenges will bring.

"Congratulations on your first victory kid. You earned it." Chef Saltbaker congratulated her.

"Thanks… I guess?" Gwen said, feeling unsure.

Chef Saltbaker sits down next to her.

"You alright kid?" He asked her.

Gwen hesitated to answer.

"Well… I almost died getting those gnome berries. I was literally inside his stomach for the challenge. I don't know if I'm really up for this whole 'getting those strange ingredients' thing." Gwen admitted.

Chef Saltbaker wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

"Remember why you're doing this?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

Gwen looked at him until she heard the voices calling her name again.

"To make those voices go away and to save my home." Gwen answered.

"That's right. You've just begun. It's understandable to have doubts." Chef Saltbaker assured her.

Gwen looked at him again until Chef Saltbaker gets an idea.

"Come with me, I gotta show you something."

Chef Saltbaker said as he gets up from the chair and leads Gwen to his kitchen. He grabs some ingredients like cake flour, baking soda, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, butter, sugar, canola oil, eggs, vanilla extract, white vinegar, red food coloring and buttermilk.

"What are you doing?" Gwen asked confused.

"Come, let's get baking!" Chef Saltbaker said as he pulled out a recipe.

Chef Saltbaker gets to work and mixes the dry ingredients into one bowl while Gwen set up the cake pans. He shows Gwen how he beats the butter and sugar together in a large mixer. Then, she adds the oil, egg yolks, vanilla extract and vinegar until they all blended.

Finally, Chef Saltbaker has Gwen slowly add the dry ingredients to the mixer and alternating the buttermilk. Gwen drops 3 drops of red food coloring to the mixture while Chef Saltbaker whisks the egg whites and folds them into the cake batter.

Chef Saltbaker divides the batter into the cake pans and has Gwen stick them in the oven and bake them for about 30-32 minutes.

In the meantime, they get to work making the cream cheese frosting using cream cheese and butter in another mixer. They slowly add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt until the frosting was creamy.

After the cakes were finally baked and cooled off, Chef Saltbaker and Gwen frost the cakes together and put them together. He shows Gwen how to make decorative frosting flowers with his frosting bag and tips.

"Wow, my favorite cake." Gwen said, amazed.

"Yep. I could tell you love red-velvet cake from what I saw yesterday." Chef Saltbaker said.

"So, what was the point of all of this?" Gwen asked.

"Listen, when I make my baked goods, what's the most important ingredients I used just like what you use to make your creations come to life?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

Gwen thought for a moment.

"Well, I noticed when you were making those baked goods, you put your heart and soul into them. Like I put my heart and soul into my art and my creations." Gwen said until her eyes popped, realizing something.

"Wait, heart and soul! That's the secret ingredient!" Gwen answered, figuring it out.

Chef Saltbaker smiled and patted Gwen's shoulder.

"You really are brilliant kid." Chef Saltbaker complimented.

Gwen smiled as Rose came into the kitchen.

"Hey guys, what's baking? It smells really delicious." Rose asked.

"Ah, you're just in time my dear." Chef Saltbaker said.

Chef Saltbaker grabbed the red-velvet cake and presented it to Rose.

"I was showing your sister how to make her favorite dessert." Chef Saltbaker explained.

"Wow, that's really pretty." Rose complimented.

"Why, thank you kid. Would you like a slice?" Chef Saltbaker offered.

"Oh, no thank you I'm full right now. But I will have one tomorrow." Rose answered.

"Wonderful. Well, it's getting late. I think it's time we all turn in for the night." Chef Saltbaker said, noticing the time.

"Yeah, I wonder what challenges awaits me tomorrow." Gwen said yawning.

"Remember kid, heart and soul." Chef Saltbaker reminded her.

"I will. Thank you." Gwen thanked.

Gwen leaves with Rose upstairs to their rooms while Chef Saltbaker handled the cleanup. Both sisters make their way to Rose's room.

"Well, goodnight sis." Gwen said and prepared to go to her room with Clarence.

"Uh, Gwen? Can I talk to you for a minute?" Rose asked.

Gwen comes back into her room, closes the door and sits down on the bed with her.

"Okay, what's up Rose?" Gwen asked.

"I've been thinking. I have a strange feeling about Chef Saltbaker." Rose answered.

Gwen's eyes widened.

"What do you mean?" Gwen asked.

"Look, I think maybe he's has another reason for us getting those ingredients." Rose admitted.

"Why do you say that? You think he's lying to us?" Gwen asked.

"Think about it Gwen. Those ingredients are hard to obtain, right? I mean, why didn't he try to do those challenges and earn them himself?" Rose asked, trying to prove a point.

"I… I don't know. Maybe he tried before but failed?" Gwen guessed.

"Look, I hope I'm wrong, but we need to be careful around him. We just met him, and we don't know enough about him unlike our friends." Rose suggested.

Gwen thought for a moment.

"Just promise me you'll be careful around him until we know for sure?" Rose asked.

"Well… okay." Gwen reluctantly agrees.

"And please… keep this between us? Sister promise?" Rose asked as she held up her pinky.

Gwen sighed, then held her pinky and wrapped it around Rose's pinky.

"Promise." Gwen said.

"Thank you." Rose thanked.

Gwen gets up and leaves Rose's room as Ms. Chalice comes in to join Rose.

She goes to her room and goes to bed with Clarence, and both go to sleep. Gwen thought about what Rose said and needed to consider being careful around Chef Saltbaker. With that thought in mind, she goes back to sleep to prepare herself for the next challenge in the morning.
