Louis slammed the open door behind him in fury, unconcerned with the fact that he might've accidentally broken its hinges. Fury doesn't even come close to all the emotions and physical sensations he's feeling right now. His leg was burning, but that was merely background noise to his general anger.
The deer stood by the door, tottering still. His body was frozen; indecisive about what it wanted to do. He wanted to take out his rage on someone; yet nobody was there to take that burden. His head snapped to the right, a scowl on his face; his cheeks burning red. Louis' eyes fell on the chair immediately to the right of his door and lunged it across the room in one swift motion.
The chair landed loudly on the floor; a chip flying off its wooden frame landing close to his desk. Louis was huffing in the strain, fighting words escaping his mouth. "DAMN IT ALL! Those short-sighted morons! H-How could they do this?!" He stuttered the last sentence a little in a twinge of sadness, immediately catching himself in the act. Louis wouldn't allow himself to be weak now, like the rest of them.
WEAK! THEY'RE ALL A BUNCH OF WEAKLINGS!
He couldn't understand why all these animals, which he had shared a club and ideals with for years are suddenly backing down. Fear was the obvious answer, though to Louis it was also the most unreasonable one. To him it was such a weak and pathetic emotion, basically accepting everything lying down without much of a fight; like a total coward.
Segregation was basically a given at this point. The school once again got caught in a storm of their own incompetence. Damage control was in short order, leaving no room for leniency. Salvaging what was left was the only option the school could reasonably follow, while Louis was left to pick up the scraps. "We're far past salvation at this point", he muttered under his breath.
He scampered further into the room, trying not to put too much pressure on his already aching leg, something that was becoming more than background noise. The deer took his phone out of his pocket; immediately clicking on the nearest social media app. He wanted to know if the debacle was already public knowledge.
The app was stuck on the loading screen. The schools WiFi network wasn't working, probably disabled to prevent students from posting about it. Louis couldn't help but chuckle at how desperate it all was, especially when basically every animal had a subscription. Turning on his data he eyed his feed; noticing that nobody had posted about it yet.
Color me surprised, nobody has lit the match and ignited the fireworks. Those mouth breathers are keeping them shut for once.
Louis knew it would only be a matter of time before everything went to hell. All it takes is a little shove and the entire mountain side would come tumbling down.
Louis knew he could maybe mend the rehearsal situation with the principal; if the club wouldn't budge, he had to stick his neck out instead. With two animals dead, his chances weren't looking all that great. He knew all the details, some he would rather have not heard at all. Your skin would crawl by just a mere mention.
The deer almost wanted to cackle at how insane this situation was. There was nothing to be happy about. He felt far from pleased as he realized he had lied by omission in front of everybody. Was it because he valued their peace of mind or because he didn't want to give out such valuable information?
He couldn't be sure. Impeding by running his mouth would only put a hamper on things. Begrudgingly, Louis limped behind his desk and crashed into the office chair with a thud. His thoughts were wandering in a futile effort to make sense of it all.
Two. Fucking. Two. This has to be some kind of sick, fucked up practical joke. Two shit crazy murderers roaming the halls and they are large breeds too. If only people knew... the tension would be enough to etch glass.
The claw and bite marks confirmed that both devourings were committed by a large breed carnivore. However, there was just one small discrepancy between the two: the size of the carnassials. On the second victim the indentation marks left behind were noticeably smaller, which indicated that it wasn't done by the same monster who killed Tem.
A second killer was on campus, hungry for blood and meat. Only seeing their fellow students as prey, one more and it would be a trinity. Another killing would spell the end of Cherryton Academy's public reputation, which was already steadily on the decline. The thought of accidentally walking past either of the killers made Louis visibly nervous, he didn't even want to fathom the possibility.
A shrill laugh escaped him in exasperation. Now all he needed was a padded room and things would be in total harmony. If the facts ever came out he could kiss his Beastar position goodbye. The only people who would be left to appeal to could only be reached by seance.
Louis tried to make sense of instincts he didn't possess, starting to mutter to himself like a crazy person. "It's all a game to them. They're killing innocents like it's a sport. Cannot even keep their fangs and claws to themselves, weaklings. Ironically, they've already lost even if they don't think so." He didn't even understand his own instincts, so he didn't get why he was delusional enough to even attempt it with carnivorous ones.
A method to the madness there was not. Slaughter for the sake of slaughter: short term indulgence causing long term harm. They're all the basic ingredients for successful carnage: a hell without repercussions. Sometimes, the deer wondered if there was such a thing as the afterlife. Many animals would definitely go to hell, but sometimes it felt like they were already there.
Fifteen minutes passed as he sat in his chair. He could only mull and process. Counting back every step he took in the last forty eight hours, but nothing truly of note happened, of course, if you ignored his foot. They didn't even know where she was taken from.
What was she doing out there anyways?! Why was she so late?! Her clothes- ugh- no- I don't even want to think about that. It's... fucking repulsive. Haru... I am sorry.
There was nobody in to room, so he had no reason to keep up this masquerade any longer. Louis stared up at the ceiling, his facial muscles twisting and contorting. "I-I am s-s-so sorry, Haru. I-I s-should'v-ve been there f-for you!" His chest heaved, every breath of air filtering through his lungs like a stab to the heart.
Who was he kidding at this point? He would never be able to keep it together without her. His falsetto steadfastness would crumble under the slightest pressure. Haru was his only confidant; someone he could be totally honest with. Never judging him for who he was; able to see past all the pretense that enveloped him.
Tears were finally escaping him, the carefully crafted façade crumbling by the mere thought of her name. As far as Louis knew: Haru was the only one to truly understand him. Only she knew the real Louis, without all the theatrics and hidden agendas attached. It's something he never would've figured he actually had: a true friend.
He wanted to yell, scream, slam his fists into the wall: anything. However, he just sat there looking into space unmoving. His body wouldn't comply, his emotions were too overbearing for even his own being to process. Instead, he was just paralyzed; a passenger. Face being moist from all the tears; he couldn't even move his hand to wipe them away.
Why does this always happen to me? Everything gets ripped away from me the moment I am even slightly content. IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!I DON'T DESERVE THIS!
Eventually, his tears and convulsions were turning into a quiet sniffling. Powerlessness is what was ultimately left from all their sobbing and misery. The weakness of his flesh only being exacerbated by his inability to help himself. Louis' mind was numb from all the pain: physical and psychological.
He could finally move again, he stood up: his leg still being weak, meaning he had to lean on the other one. Only stinging questions remained. What would Oguma do? What would a Beastars do? Vengeance wasn't enough. Louis needed justice; he wanted to look the killer in the eyes and honestly ask one simple question: 'Why?'
Louis wanted a reason other than selfishness. Haru's death had to be worth something; serve some kind of purpose. He knew there was none: they just wanted to eat.
"They're all monsters: all of them. No carnivore is innocent. They all just slobber for one thing." Louis wanted them all gone, to punish every single one of them for existing. Fairness wasn't a point in that discussion; he's also allowed to be selfish just like them.
He knew killing the perpetrator would be too easy. The crime would still outweigh the punishment. It would be quick and painless, something which Louis definitely didn't want. They deserved all the scorn and animosity from what they did. It would hurt and it would for a long time.
They deserve every ounce of it: the pain, the anguish and the loathing. Whatever she must've felt, you will feel it in amounts you cannot even comprehend.
What Haru would've wanted is for the killer to face justice and repent that way. Louis can only deliver upon those convictions, even with his own more sadistic twist given to it.
Louis slowly strode towards the middle of the office; his face muscles tired from all the strain they were put through. There was only one thing that could level the playing field. He had no claws to scratch with, no fangs to bite with and no muscles to resist. However, he did have one thing, something precious: ingenuity.
In the cabinets he had a little secret in case of emergencies. Something far more reliable than brute strength. Louis opened the second one and scanned the ceiling with his hand until he felt the tape. Ripping it off, he took out his Hail Rex: a handgun.
Holding it in his now steady hands with newfound confidence and conviction, he made a vow. One he would keep no matter what.
Louis' voice was filled with animosity and fervor, "I will find out who did this to you or die trying."
Lights of police cars were swirling in all directions; noise of the sirens still blaring in the air. The high pitch of the sirens were beginning to hurt Jack's ears. Officers were trying to hold the students back, their efforts doubling as more animals poured in to inspect the ruckus.
The Labrador couldn't understand how people could be so stupid as to interfere with a crime scene. Assaulting the police with questions and need for assurance weren't doing them any favors. The groups were preventing the cops from doing their work more than anything.
Room 701 looked from a distance as the tumult got worse with time. Herbivores were trying to get away from the chaos, some stuck between other animals; adding to their own fear. The crowd grew ever larger, faculty trying their damndest to keep it in check.
"It's almost like those idiots don't want this case to be solved", Jack spat with mock laughter. "Here we go again. We're never going to catch a break, now are we?" The Labrador already knew what the future would hold for him and the rest of 701. As if the judgmental stares and scoffs weren't enough already.
Voss gave the lab a worried glance. "What kind of monster would even do this? So soon after the last one too..." The small fennec wanted to hide in Collot's fur and never come out. He was afraid, but more scared for the animals around him than anything.
"I can tell you one thing for sure: it's a dangerous predator. The likes of which I'd rather not meet", Collot asserted. His snout was wrinkled up in revulsion having smelled the stench too. The sheepdog's fearless demeanor vanishing quickly, his tail tucked beneath his legs.
"H-How could s-someone do this to another a-animal? It's revolting! The s-smell is making me sick", Miguno complained, his usually cheery demeanor gone with the wind. The hyena was now loathing his keen sense of smell; having to pinch his nose to prevent him from getting lightheaded.
Durham gave Miguno a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Try not to sniff too much of it. We wouldn't want you to get sick." Though all the others found it disgusting, the coyote couldn't help but find the smell slightly enticing. He almost began drooling; immediately catching himself in the act. "Snap out of it."
The hyena's gaze shot up at him. "S-Sorry, I didn't catch that last part. Did you say something?", Miguno asked with a solemn look. "My hearing's a bit of a mess right now." He nodded towards the crowd, which was only getting worse. A few smaller herbivores were strutting away in a panic, struggling to just get past the larger animals.
Durham hesitated with his answer, feeling guilty about how he just felt when he saw those herbivores. It would never fly with the group; they would never look at him the same. "Oh, ah- n-nothing much. Something along the l-lines of 'everything will be alright.'" The coyote stared at him with big eyes; praying that he bought into the lie.
Miguno gave him a sad smile. "Ah, thank you, Durham. That means a lot to me, really." The hyena wasn't in the mood to be comforted by anyone, though there was some solace in the fact that Durham at least tried.
Sudden shouts were heard from the ever growing crowd. Tensions were riding high, you could smell the fear and discomfort in everybody's pheromones. A lot of animals were trying to get away, but couldn't push past the wall of people. "Guys, this isn't looking all that good. I think it's best if we cleared out for now", Jack reasoned fearing the worst.
Voss' claws began digging deeper into Collot's fur. However, Collot didn't really notice being entranced by the crowd. "Y-Yeah, I guess you're right. Things will get worse from here", the sheepdog said dreamily. He shook his head snapping out of his daze. "Where's Legosi, by the way? W-We should probably go and get him, right?"
Shit! I completely forgot about him! We need to find him now!
Jack was worried about Legosi's wellbeing in all of this. It wouldn't be the first time the wolf got attacked in the wake of something like this. "You're right! Maybe he's in the crowd! I'll try sniffing him out!" Catching his scent was maybe an option, so he tried it. Everybody's eyes grew wide, a slight panic settling down on their faces.
"Jack, don't!", they pleaded in unison. Too little too late, taking a deep whiff his face turned from determination to sickened disgust. He smelled something he rather wouldn't have. Jack's upper body lurched forwards, holding his now upset stomach. One of their hands covering his mouth; holding back the bile.
Collot immediately ran to his aid, his hands resting on the labrador's back. "Are you alright? We tried to warn you!" Jack waved him off and tried to stand upright again. His breathing was heavy; beads of sweat were running across his now red face. He swallowed back his breakfast and lunch. The disgusting taste of vomit taking his senses hostage. "I... am... f-fine, Collot. I... s-should've listened to... you."
Ugh! What was that?! It isn't what I think it is, r-right?
Miguno and Durham also wanted to see if Jack was alright. Voss seeing them approach from Collot's back, held up his hand. A clear indication for them to not get any closer. Stopping dead in their tracks, they noticed their lack of tact and muttered quiet apologies.
Voss turned around and gave an exasperated huff. "You know you're not good with pungent smells! You could've reasonably predicted this would happen, Jack." The fennec fox looked the labrador over again, noticing his now sickly appearance. "Look at you: you're quivering! Guys, it's time to get out of here! Legosi is probably still having rehearsals, we're going to get him now."
The coyote retorted, "But-" Voss sharply cut him off, anger now lacing his voice. "No 'buts', Durham. We're leaving." Voss' insistence irked Durham: he usually wasn't this forceful. The fennec gave the straggler a livid glare. "NOW! What are you standing there for?! Get a move on!"
"Yeah, Yeah! Alright! Geez!" Durham called the fennec a little dictator under his breath. Voss' ears shot up the moment the words left the coyote's mouth. "Did you have something else to say?" Durham's ears sagged, knowing he had no right to start anything. "Hmm, good."
Everybody knew there wouldn't be any way they could argue with Voss. Once the fennec was serious, you could jump high or low, there was no fighting his rule. Miguno and Durham both tried to give the now sickly dog a shoulder to lean on. Jack graciously accepted, because he wasn't in any state to walk.
Slowly getting away from the crowd they could hear the situation getting worse. Jack slowly looked back to the scene feeling a little bit better now that they were out of range. He could see a couple of animals gesturing wildly, verbally assaulting each other with every crude word in the playbook.
Oh, crumbs. Here we go.
Some police officers were trying to prevent a fight from breaking out between groups of carnivores and herbivores. In both parties were troublemakers challenging one another. "Was one not enough for you carnivores?! We are just food to you aren't we?!", a male rhino yelled in fury. The lioness standing adjacent from him scoffed, a mocking smile playing on her features. "Oh, please! You herbivores are all the same! Thinking we are all out to get you at every turn, fuck off!"
The group kept walking towards the drama club's main building, not wanting any part in whatever was happening behind them. Their slow stride turned into a jog as they were almost swept up in the chaos. Jack immediately felt much better than before, mainly because one situation would lead to a black eye while the other lead to his best friend. It wasn't a hard decision for 701 to make.
After arriving at the drama club's main base of operations, a slight discussion ensued. "I think it's best if Jack goes in by himself. If we all showed up together we'd majorly spook whomever we run into", Durham argued. "We don't want to cause a ruckus, do we?"
"I agree with Durham. Last thing I would've wanted as an herbivore is seeing an entire group of carnies clogging the hallways", Collot added nodding in the affirmative. Jack just stood idly by with confusion. Why has nobody asked him if he wanted to go in the first place?
"Well, we also cannot just stand by the main entrance. We should keep our distance. If a herbivore comes out we would probably scare them", Miguno reasoned, he sounded ashamed. He airily held up his left hand, halfway balling it into a fist; looking at his claws with contempt.
"Uh, guys, who says I want to go inside, like at all? I think I've had my fill of groups bickering today", Jack replied weakly. "In my opinion-" The labrador stopped speaking when he saw all the questioning stares he was getting. "Uhm, guys?"
Voss reacted first, sighing. "Jack, this is non-negotiable. You're going inside, whether you like it or not." Jack's neutral expression shifted to one of surprise. "What if Legosi's panicked? We wouldn't be of any help. You know how sensitive he is!"
Jack awkwardly scratched his arm, he supposed they were right. He should be there for the wolf as his best friend. The lab couldn't imagine what Legosi was feeling, right now. What if he wasn't even at the club and getting attacked by other animals again? Though that scenario was highly unlikely, Jack was in a state of worry at the prospect of it.
If the WiFi weren't out of whack, I could've just sent him sent him a text. Why didn't that stubborn wolf get a subscription like everybody else? None the matter, it's better to get him in person anyways.
"I know, Voss. I'll get them. It's better if you guys just go back to the dorm." The rest agreed nodding, despite their hesitancy to leave Jack alone after what happened earlier. They just didn't want to leave the labrador without backup, but figured Legosi would suffice.
"Fine, we're going back. If you guys aren't there in thirty minutes we'll come back to check up on you. I don't think that needs much explaining", Durham exacted, the coyote was in a bad mood. Today has left a rather foul taste in his mouth. "Good luck."
Jack pulled the door open and took a gentle step inside. He turned his head towards the leaving group with a solemn expression. Despite everything, they're always there for him even during times like this. Jack shook his head. This wasn't the time to get sentimental, because he had more urgent things to do.
Echoes of his footsteps reverberated through the corridor as he walked through them with a determined stride. Though the building wasn't that big, Jack wasn't really sure on where to go. He wondered how the wolf always managed to find his way around campus. A realization hit Jack as he gave Legosi more thought.
Of course! The flowers! With that smell you can basically pick him out of a crowd! Let's see... I think... I have to take the second hallway to the left.
Jack closed his eyes to get a better focus on Legosi's location, totally ignoring his overall surroundings. It was easier to use one of your senses if you disabled another. Turning sharply around the corner he bumped into someone hard, causing them to drop all their stuff. "Hey! Watch where you're going! You moron!", A female voice yelled.
Jack snapped out of his small daze, opening his eyes his face contorted into worry. A cheetah gave him an extremely stern look, it looked like she was almost about to explode. The labrador instantly started profusely apologizing, "Oh, gosh! I am so sorry! I hope I didn't hurt you on acci-"
She interrupted the labrador with a sigh, "I am fine, my stuff however isn't." Jack looked at the ground and didn't even hesitate to start picking up her stuff. The cheetah looked at him in genuine surprise, not comprehending a canine would do something like this for a feline without thought. "Again, I-I am s-so sorry! I d-didn't mean to bump into you. I w-was searching for a friend", Jack explained.
Jack handed her all the stuff that had fallen on the floor, which she promptly put back in her handbag. "Thanks!Sorry for lashing out at you. I've had a rather shitty day", the cheetah apologized. "My name is Shiira. What's yours?" She held out her hand expectantly, Jack took it with a gentle smile. "I am Jack. Don't worry about it too much, everyone has had enough on their plates the past few days."
Shiira let out a sigh of relief. "Yeah, talk about it. Your name does sound quite familiar...", She tapped her face pensively. "Isn't Legosi your roommate?" Jack's tail wagged excitedly, happy to know that the wolf was making friends. "Yes, I am! Here to pick him up. You know how sensitive he can be sometimes; I didn't want him to face this stuff by himself."
Shiira gave the labrador an amused glance. Jack tilted his head slightly in confusion. "That's admirable! You are a good friend, Jack", she praised. Jack's face beamed at the compliment. "I think I saw him in the general room. After that he kinda... disappeared? I didn't see him leave; there's only one exit. He's probably still there. General room is at the end of the hallway, red doors, can't miss it!"
The labrador nodded appreciatively. "Thank you! I would've probably gotten hopelessly lost again. I am terrible with directions sometimes", Jack chuckled nervously. "It was nice meeting you. I hope we can meet again under... better circumstances next time." Shiira let out a hearty laugh, "Likewise, Jack, likewise. I'll have to go now, my parents are flatlining my phone. Good luck with Legosi; tell him I said 'Hi'."
The cheetah waved the dog goodbye. "Will do, Shiira! Be safe out there!" Shiira preoccupied with her phone put her thumbs up. Jack turned around and walked towards the red doors. He also just wanted this day over with.
Now I just have to get the wolf.
Legosi watched on as the crowd slowly dispersed over time. He was up in the high tower looking down on people as they scrambled like ants. It was satisfying seeing people dance to his tune for once. Everybody always forced their convoluted ideals onto him; he had to either bend or break. No more of that, never again.
"Looks like you're having fun. I thought we agreed to enjoy this together? Don't just leave me the scraps."
Legosi looked to his left to see dark shadow sitting next to him swaying his little legs; his tail wagging. It was the same one as that night, only much smaller. He was now more akin to a wolf pup than before, actually having ears and a snout now. The Shadow, no instinct, seemed to be smiling; having fun. Legosi finally noticed why it seemed so familiar, it was him as a puppy, only now cloaked in darkness.
"What are you doing here?", Legosi whispered curiously. His shadowy reflection gave him a curt giggle; pretending that question was rhetorical. "Never mind, I think I get it now. You're always here." The wolf inspected it attentively, trying to make sense of why it only appeared to him now.
"I don't see why you are so surprised. We're are one and the same after all. We want the same thing."
That didn't really answer any of Legosi's questions, but it was better than nothing. Was he really just trying to understand why a biological part of him was there? Suddenly, he felt extremely stupid for even questioning it. He continued watching downwards at the animals below him. Some of them were leaving, while others were trying to get their bearings.
Legosi suddenly wanted to try something. "Can you hear me?" The small figure looked up at him with a knowing grin. "I see, that answers a lot. You're literally my psyche."
"Bingo. You've been doing well for yourself. See what happens when you do what you desire, just for once?" It waved its small paw triumphantly across the room. Legosi gazed around and waited for it to continue. "You get what's essentially our lifeblood. You smell it right?"
Of course, he could smell it. It was only a natural reaction to what happened. Everyone with self-preservation had it: Fear. You can smell it in the sweat coming from their backs, the clear unbridled distrust and uncomfortable silence only adding to it. There was no smell sweeter than that, it was something that could get you totally hooked for days.
"Yes, I do smell it. The herbivores especially, they make me want to ravage", Legosi thought longingly. "I can't get enough of this." In a child-like tone, the puppy laughed darkly. "Then there's no need to spell out for you what has to be done. You have to work for it, but that's part of the fun."
A hoarse chuckle left the wolf's drooling lips. "That's funny. It rhymed. What rhymes with hunger though?" He licked it off as more saliva was forming at the back of Legosi's mouth; he had to swallow most of it back. "Hadn't figured you were the type to think with your stomach. You have always been so self-conscious about that. What changed?"
The wolf rolled his eyes with a mocking grin on his lips. "Who's asking rhetorical questions now?" People were flooding out of the door, all wanting to get out. Legosi enjoyed watching them struggle, almost laughing at their expense. "They're so stupid. Can't even help themselves to save their lives."
"Panic tends to do that to people. Everyone has their instincts, some are better equipped at handling them than others." Irony was hot on that sentence, irking the wolf. "Don't you even start. I couldn't live like that anymore." The puppy wagged his finger with a smirk. "No, you 'handled' them longer than most, commendable, but foolish. You had to debase yourself to do it."
A dejected glance started to form on Legosi's face, not wanting to think about all the abuse he's endured at the hands of others. "Oh, come on, turn that frown upside down! Those times have long since passed. You're only sailing towards a better future", Instinct consoled, making the wolf feel better. Was he truly going to enjoy his life from now on? What has actually changed in the grand scheme of things? "You are living for yourself from now on, that's a huge improvement if you ask me."
Instinct wasn't wrong, he isn't living through the will of others anymore. 'Legosi the People Pleaser' was gone. Now he had to work with what was left of him, a brand new animal. "Can I be proud of this change?" The shadow patted him on the shoulder. "The price wasn't that steep, if you ask me. They might call you selfish for it, but is satisfying a need for the sake of your wellbeing truly all that selfish?"
Legosi has never placed his wellbeing above others, so he frankly doesn't have a clue. "I suppose not", the wolf thought unsure of himself. He was rudely awakened by the exit doors slamming loudly. Scanning the room there was nobody left. "Everyone has left you out to dry, as per usual." 'What's new?', the wolf wanted to grumble. "Shut up", Legosi retorted out loud instead.
The shadow stood up, looking at Legosi with satisfaction. It held out its hand, Legosi took it; the shadow faded away into him. "I'll be seeing you around." The wolf sniffed. "Well, that was anticlimactic." Legosi sat up straight again, contemplating his next move. School was basically over, classes were cancelled for the next day. No bother in doing homework tonight, he'll have some extra free time he supposed.
Everyone's gone now, huh? Guess I don't have much purpose in staying here.
Despite lacking rhyme or reason to stay here, Legosi was too lazy to actually get going. He was quite comfortable up there: hanging high, seemingly having no issues that needed to be tended to on the ground. Legosi knew he had to eventually get out before they locked him in, but he had more important matters to content with: mainly his uncomfortable position while lying down.
Peace and quiet were rare privileges in this school. You were constantly surrounded by your peers, always looking, forever judging. Privacy was a comfort you had to grasp with both hands if you ever got the opportunity. There are a lot of things to be gained when you are by yourself.
A few more minutes passed as Legosi was looking up at his hands in amusement. "Is it me or have my hands gotten bigger? Stuff that was heavy before also seems lighter now. Strange", the wolf mused, his breathing was slow and controlled; blowing at the short fur on his hands, tickling him slightly. Suddenly, the creaking of an opening door broke Legosi's immersion.
"Legosi? Are you still here?", A familiar voice questioned. "We were worried about you, so we wanted to see if you were alright." Legosi found it heartwarming that Jack and the boys would be willing to put in so much effort just for him.
He waited as the labrador to walked further into the room. Jack was looking around for any sign of the wolf. "Odd, his scent is still the strongest here. If he left it couldn't have been long ago", The lab whispered thinking to himself. Legosi let out a mischievous giggle as he jumped down behind Jack.
Jack jumped up and let out a startled yelp. "LEGOSI! Don't scare me like that! You almost gave me a heart attack! Where'd you even come from?!" The wolf laughed at the dog's expense. The lab turned as red as a tomato. "Don't you laugh at me! That's not funny!"
Legosi suddenly hugged Jack catching him off guard. "Thank you for coming to get me, Jack. I really appreciate it." The labrador retriever's mood softened. He reciprocated the hug smiling. "It's no big deal, Legosi. We're friends, of course I would come and get you."
"You know I can take care of myself, right? I would've probably been fine", The wolf answered. Before Jack could speak up, the door to his right creaked open revealing an all too familiar deer. Louis had his usual apathetic expression on his face. "Ah, Legosi, I see you are still here. Figured you would be the first one out of here, after the news dropped. You are full of surprises."
Louis' now amused gaze met a new set of eyes. "And who's this? I thought I heard yelling, so that must've been you." Jack answered politely with a friendly expression, "I am Jack, Legosi's roommate. I'm here to pick him up."
Louis hummed, his arm were crossed. "Though that still doesn't really answer my question regarding the screaming." His gaze now turned serious, which Jack immediately tried to avert. "Well, that was me. Legosi jumped from up there and gave me a little bit of a scare." The lab pointed up towards the breaker box.
The deer's face changed to one of surprise. "Aha, so that's why. Legosi, I remember Sanu telling you not to jump from there anymore", he said sternly, his face not mimicking the sentiment. Legosi began stammering, "Oh, ah, I-I am sorry, L-Louis. It w-won't h-happen again, I p-promise." Against all Legosi's expectations Louis began laughing. "You've taken my advice to heart, I see. Fighting authority now are we?"
Jack gave the wolf a curious look. Legosi aggressively shook his head and hands. "N-No, it was the quickest way down! That's all!" The deer let out a sigh, a satisfied smile creeping up his lips. "Sure, Legosi. You're standing up straight and you have been more assertive as of lately. No way, you are fooling anyone acting like that."
Legosi really had no retort. What Louis was saying was basically the truth. Jack had trouble keeping up, not knowing what they were talking about. Louis noticing how dead the conversation became turned towards the exit. "Well, I'll be going now. Legosi, could you please turn off the lights?" The wolf nodded in affirmation. "Good, thank you. It was nice meeting you, Jack. I hope next time we can meet under better circumstances."
The labrador gave him a solemn smile, "Likewise." This is the second time he has heard that today. He's already met two new people and the situation has already thrown a wrench in both of their future interactions. The red doors closed with a resolute thud, leaving only both canines. "Let's get going, Lego. I want to go to the dorm and sleep forever." Legosi moved to turn off the lights, and with the click of a few switches, they were both shrouded in darkness. "Mhm. Seems like a fine plan. I've had it with today."
Jack got out his phone and shot Collot a message that they were coming. He immediately got a message back that said: 'Good!' They started walking towards the dormitories.
The lab was about ready to fall flat, that's how tired he was. "Hey, Legosi?", Jack said. The wolf responded with a hum. "Thanks for being my friend." The wolf snickered, "Likewise, Jack. Likewise."
