A/N: Hello and welcome back to another chapter in this story.
As allways, HowInMadeHowie helped me with the finer details in this chapter. But in this chapter, he once again did add almost a third of the length in comparison to the original version i had send him to betaread, so there is a big part in this one that is a much better read as it was originally, so thank you man.
Now, off with you and have fun reading this chapter. Until next time
Remus put his hand over Sirius's mouth to silence him. "Be quiet, or the Dementors will hear you, Padfoot. They still have the order to kiss you on sight, you know." Remus hissed in his ear to try to get his old friend to see sense.
After Remus had made sure that Sirius had calmed down enough so they could talk quietly so the Dementors would not look for them, he removed his hand and continued. "If you wanted to ask why I am even here, Dumbledore asked me last summer if I would teach Defense Against the Dark Arts. I was even given an assistant, her name is Triss Merigold by the way. I later found out that she was testing me to see if I would be worthy to become a Lycan in the first place. She is associated with the Witchers and hasy the knowledge with the others in their home how to perform the ritual. And now I need to bring you to the headmaster, so please turn back to your dog form so the Dementors would not hold us up too long."
Sirius still glared angrily at Remus, not really buying what he was told. "Well, you guessed right Moony, but there is something else I want to know after you have dropped that bombshell that Harry lives with a Witcher. Why did you allow this in the first place? Do you know what these people do to children? Where were you when Dumbledore seemed to decide for himself that Harry should live there?" Sirius crossed his arms, not willing to move until he got his answer.
Remus breathed in, already expected this question would come up. "I was not around the night the attack on James and Lily happened. I was on the continent, taking care of some Order business and returned a week after the attack had happened, and because of that I did not know where Harry was placed. But Harry is happy, believe me. He is one of the best students in his year. Harry even inspires his peers to be better, they even reopened the dueling club last year and included every year in it. Of course, the students are grouped by skill level, but even there Harry duels fifth and sixth years to have a challenge. So whatever you heard about Witchers, I assure you that Harry grew up with people loving him for who he is. And Geralt would never force Harry to do something he did not want to."
Sirius whistled again, asking Remus if he could meet Harry. The answer did not surprise him. "Before you can meet Harry, we need to get you cleared of your crimes. I would suggest you look for a lawyer after the next events."
Sirius' eyes grew big again, even coughing a bit. "I always guessed that it was strange that I got no trial, but I surmised that they had done it without me being present in the courtroom. But now that Bones is at the proverbial wheel, I am sure that I can appease her to finally give me one. If necessary, I will use my charm to convince her." Sirius grinned at the idea of charming Amelia Bones.
Remus laughed but tried to hide it behind a cough. "You mean the same charm that got you into so much trouble during school? Do not forget, she was a prefect when we were there. Now come on, I promised Dumbledore that I would bring you to him."
Sirius nodded and turned into his dog form as Lupin began to walk back to the castle.
Harry walked through the corridors under his invisibility cloak towards an empty classroom, where Callie was told from Cortana that John would be waiting for him.
Arriving outside the designated classroom, Harry looked around just to be sure that no one would see the door opening on its own and snooped around. Satisfied that he was alone in the corridor, Harry opened the door and slipped inside and closed the door behind him.
Removing his cloak he turned around to look at John, who had his arms crossed over his chest and was watching the door. "Well done Harry, that was very fast. Now give me that cage, I have a cloth from Triss that is enchanted to isolate Pettigrew completely from any kind of outside stimuli if he wakes up. All he will see is absolute darkness while all he will hear is his own breathing. That will soften him up a bit when Madam Bones interrogates him when she comes here." John reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded cloth.
Harry handed the cage over as ordered, remembering how harsh that kind of training was in Kear Morhen. Harry was very glad that it was just a few minutes back then, but now he hoped that Pettigrew would simmer for a few hours in the cage with no way out of it.
As John placed the cloth over the cage and grabbed it by the handle, he told Harry to put his cloak back over and return back to his dorm. "And if Mr. Weasley asks tomorrow if you have seen his rat, you obviously know nothing. But I am sure you knew that already. So, sleep well and lay low for a while. According to Dumbledore he sent the letter, but that could take at least a whole night until it arrives, so be prepared to keep the ruse up for a while."
Harry nodded as he put his cloak over his shoulders and vanished from view. As he later laid in bed in the dorm, Harry was thinking what the future would now hold in store for him.
Later that night, Dumbledore was in his office and looking over some papers when there was a knock on his door. Granting entry to the visitors, he saw how Lupin entered his office with a large, black dog in tow. "Ah, Remus, I see that you were successful. I am glad that you managed it so quickly, as I am sure that Madam Bones will come here as soon as tomorrow morning. Now, Sirius, if you would please turn back to your human form so we can talk with each other." Dumbledore waved his hand towards the dog, which changed back to his human form.
Sirius was now standing tall, his hands behind his back and tried to look as regal as he could. "Professor Dumbledore, first I want to thank you that you did not call the Dementors as soon as I entered the castle." Sirius started but paused when he saw Dumbledore lift his hand.
Dumbledore lifted his hand to interrupt Sirius, but Dumbledore's smile had only shown that he just wanted to explain something. "No thanks is necessary Sirius, as I never would allow those foul beings inside the castle in the first place. Now, I have a pretty good understanding of what had happened 12 years ago, but I hope you do not mind my asking you either way to clarify some things. Most importantly, I want to know, from your point of view, what happened that day when you confronted Peter?"
Sirius took a deep breath and began to tell what had transpired on that fateful day. "After you had left the night you wanted to bring back my bike, I had a long thought on how that could have happened. And as you suggested back then, only the secret keeper could have revealed the location where the Potters were hiding. But back then, I had first come to the realization that it was really Peter who had betrayed us. So, when I wanted to bring him in the next day, he seemed to have planned the whole event, screaming that it was me who betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort and then cast a blasting hex behind him, hitting a gas pipe which exploded. And in the confusion, he must have cut off a finger and even left his wand behind, so it could be identified. And before I knew it, I was in shackles and taken away by the Aurors. At first, I thought that this had to be a prank and when I would be questioned it would all sort itself out. But it seems that Crouch played a bit loose with the rules and just sent me to Azkaban." Sirius shrugged helplessly to conclude 'What else could I have done?'
Dumbledore stroked his beard in thought. Then something struck him that would help Amelia when it finally was time for the trial Sirius never gotten. "Sirius, can you recall that your wand was checked for the last few spells you had cast and where it is held right now?"
Sirius shook his head, confirming to Dumbledore that his wand was not checked. "And as for where it is stored, I guess it would be somewhere in the Auror office's evidence section, unless a corrupt DMLE official did not destroy it. Now I am the one who wants to ask questions, where is Peter now?"
Dumbledore stopped stroking his beard and looked at Sirius with a grave expression. "Peter is in a place where he is watched until Amelia questions you under Veritaserum. Now for that, I would suggest that you hand yourself over to her, so that it would be viewed favorably in the hearing that surely will happen this time. But before I let you leave my office, please hand over the knife you have used to slash up Patricia. And please, when you are cleared later this year, come back and apologize to her, she was distraught for almost an entire month before she would take back her job at the entrance to Gryffindor tower." Holding his hand out, his gaze switched from grave to demanding.
Sirius raised a brow at the little information he had received. "You got Peter already? And who is watching him?"
Dumbledore, still holding out his hand, just shook his head. "Peter must survive this night and he must be questioned so you can be cleared of all charges. Because of this, I will not tell you where Peter is or who is watching him for security reasons, as I am sure that you can still navigate this castle like you did during your school days. Now, the knife please?" Dumbledore's tone brooked no room for argument.
Remus put his hand on his friend's shoulder to reassure him that it was safe. "Sirius, I have an idea of where Peter is, but I agree with the headmaster, it's better to leave him be tonight and you'll likely see Peter tomorrow when he's unmasked."
Sirius grumbled, but pulled the knife out a holster he had strapped to his hip and handed it over. After the advice to turn to his dog form and sleep in Remus's office, they left Dumbledore's office and left him to work again on his papers. Luckily I have already sent the letter. Cortana, when Amelia arrives on the grounds, please inform me immediately.' A small avatar in his glasses nodded and soon, Dumbledore finished his work for tonight and was going to bed.
The next morning in London, Amelia was sitting at her desk in her home with a cup of coffee on it and weary as a growing headache was getting on her nerves. The reason she even had a headache was that Fudge was telling her almost every day now that they needed to find Black and then give him over to the Dementors. She had tried to explain to him that she had found out about the missing trial, but he was not listening to her.
Just as she took another sip from her coffee and looked over some documents to maintain her family vault. She was distracted by a tapping on her window.
Amelia looked up towards the window and recognized it as a Hogwarts' barn owl. Wondering what this was about, she stood up from her desk and walked over to open the window. The owl hopped on the windowsill inside her private office and held its leg out. Amelia untied the envelope and opened it.
Madam Bones
I have some urgent matters that would need your attention, as I was approached by someone you are looking for. I suggest that you come to Hogwarts personally with some of your finest people, as we have much to discuss about this new development.
Kind Regards
Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts
Amelia raised an eyebrow as she looked up from the letter, seeing that the barn owl was still on her windowsill. Grabbing a small owl treat, she thanked the owl and gave it to her, after which the owl spread its wings and flew off.
After this, Amelia grabbed her coat and called Tonks and Shacklebolt through the Floo network to meet her in the Three Broomsticks in ten minutes.
Ten minutes later, Amelia apparated in Hogsmeade and walked over to the Three Broomsticks, where she saw that Tonks and Shacklebolt were already waiting for her outside of it. "Ah, punctual as always. Now, please follow me, so we will find out what the headmaster wants from us."
Tonks nodded and stepped in line just like Shacklebolt did as they walked up to the castle. "Have we any more information about what this visit is about? It is rare for the headmaster to contact us directly and ask us to come to the school.." Shacklebolt's deep voice cut through the bustling street noises that were present in this small village.
Amelia thought about it but shook her head after a moment. "No, the only thing in this letter that is worth mentioning is that someone we are looking for has approached the headmaster. My only guess that would make sense, but even this is a long shot when you think about the situation, is that Sirius Black somehow maneuvered around the Dementors again and talked with Dumbledore. That is as ridiculous as it sounds, because as far we know Black only wanted to kill Harry Potter after escaping from Azkaban. The best way to satisfy our curiosity is to talk with Dumbledore."
Soon, the trio reached Hogwarts' grounds after having passed the gates where the Dementors patrolled. Tonks was looking over the grounds with a sad smile on her lips while she remembered her time on these grounds, especially the obstacle courses that she soon saw again with some students running through them. Wondering if Harry Potter was also there, she asked Madam Bones if they could make a small detour towards the courses. Shaking her head, Amelia told her that they were on a tight schedule, but she would get Tonks a weekend free so she could visit the school again if she wanted. 'Technically we aren't on a schedule but I need my Aurors to be focused on the task at hand.'
As soon as they were inside the entrance hall, they saw Dumbledore already standing there to greet them. "Good morning Madam Bones, Auror Shacklebolt and Auror Tonks, welcome to Hogwarts. Please follow me to my office, we have much to discuss."
Dumbledore turned around and walked in front of the three Aurors up the stairs. On their way they met Chief Wulf, who was carrying a small, cloth covered cage in his hand. Amelia wondered why the big man was carrying it, but surmised that it had something to do with the reason they are here now.
Soon, they were in the office where Dumbledore sat down behind his desk and began to explain. "Thank you again Madam Bones for your timely arrival. As I had written you in the letter, I have found information about a certain someone that you would find interesting. You see, in that cage that Chief Wulf is carrying is not a normal animal, but an animagus. Now, I would not have called you here with an escort if it would just be the case of an unregistered animagus, but this person is believed to be dead. Just so you understand, I have here a fascinating parchment that belongs to a student of Hogwarts. It shows the castle and grounds of Hogwarts in every detail, including all the people wandering the halls with names. If you now look at the spot where my office is located, you see who I meant when I said that he is believed to be dead, even if he is here with us." Dumbledore tapped his finger at the location of his office on a map of Hogwarts and Amelia was drawn in to look closer.
Amelia looked at the map on Dumbledore's desk and saw her name with Tonks, Shacklebolt and Dumbledore. She then looked at the spot marked as John, but his surname was covered by another name. "Peter Pettigrew!" Amelia blurted out in shock.
Amelia looked from the map back up to Dumbledore, curiosity obviously peaked. "You mean to tell me that this map is correct? Even if Peter Pettigrew should be in this room, what kind of guarantee do you have that this map works correctly?"
Dumbledore took the map and folded it back up, so John could take it with him after this meeting. "I talked with one of the creators of this map, and he assured me that it was woven into the wards of the school in a very intricate way, so even in the future the names would be shown correctly. For example, if someone were to attempt to use polyjuice to conceal their identity, the map will see through the potion." Amelia and her Aurors looked at Dumbledore in shock. Tonks had to wonder if the map would even see through her metamorph ability.
Dumbledore ignored their reaction and carried on. "So, if this map says that Peter is in this room, it has to be true. Now, I have here a small vial with Veritaserum, and I would suggest that we use that and not the one you carry around, as the paperwork you would have to fill out afterwards is too much work to be honest. John, if you would please place the cage on my desk?"
Amelia shook her head while John walked past her. "As much I would like to question Mr. Pettigrew, there is no precedent to do so. Except for faking his own death and being an unregistered animagus that is. But it does shed some new light on the case of Sirius Black. I presume we could use this map to find him when he is on the school grounds?"
Dumbledore lifted his hand to stop John and looked back at Amelia with a twinkle in his eyes. "Ah, for that matter I have good news, we already found Sirius and he accepted the proposition to be questioned under Veritaserum by you, Madam Bones. If you want, I can summon him right now." Dumbledore stood up and walked to the fireplace and threw some Floo powder in. John received a short message from Dumbledore through Cortana that he should place the cage behind Dumbledore's desk to hide it from Sirius. John moved to comply and quickly and quietly placed the cage down on the floor and returned to his position by the door.
After the flames had turned green, he called Lupin through it to bring Sirius with him and talk with Madam Bones.
Shortly afterwards, Lupin walked through the flames with a large, black dog behind him. "Ah, Madam Bones, nice to see you. But I know you are not here for pleasantries. Sirius, if you would."
Sirius turned to his human form, bearing his signature smirk and winked at Amelia. "Good morning. I guess you have many questions for me Amelia, so let's get this over with." Sirius turned around looking for a chair to sit for this interrogation, but his eyes scanned the room to look out for Peter.
Sirius found no sign that Peter was in the room when he noticed the big, muscular man standing next to the door with his hands behind his back. Surmising that this was the new security that Remus had mentioned to him last night, he did not even want to try to attack him. All his instincts were telling him to keep as far away from this men as he could. So Sirius just walked over to one of the wingback chairs and sat down on it, placing his hands with the palms up on the armrests of the chair.
Amelia stared at Sirius disbelievingly. Muttering to herself "Of course, he is an animagus, no wonder we could never find him." Shaking her head in exasperation. "Why am I not surprised that you are an unregistered Animagus. I suppose you thought to keep it off the books during the war?" Seeing Sirius's sheepish look, Amelia sighed. "Ignoring the fact that you had us all looking for a man and not a dog, I have to wonder how you are not insane from twelve years of Azkaban." Amelia frowned as she also noticed he was not looking as thin as he should.
Sirius shrugs. "When the Dementors come around I spend most of my time as Padfoot, keeps me warm and keeps me sane. It also helps that people think of me as a lovable stray and offer me scraps." Sirius shrugged as that was all there was to it.
Amelia rolled her eyes and looked over to her Aurors. "Get a parchment and dicta-quill out. I want this interrogation on record." Amelia grabbed the Veritasserum from Dumbledore's desk and stepped over to Sirius, asking him if he really would answer her questions under Veritaserum. After she had received a nod and Sirius opened his mouth and extended his tongue, Amelia placed three drops onto his tongue and watched how he swallowed with his smirk still in place.
His smirk was soon replaced by an empty looking expression, showing Amelia that the potion was working as intended. "Very well, Tonks are we ready?" Amelia looked over her shoulder to check if her Aurors were set up. Tonks nodded her affirmation. Amelia nodded to herself and turned back to Sirius."For the protocol, state your name and date of birth."
Sirius looked up, but his eyes were still empty. He answered with a monotone voice. "Sirius Black, of the Most Ancient and Most Honorable House of Black. November 3, 1959."
Amelia nodded and looked over to Tonks, who was looking over the dicta-quill. Amelia pressed on, "Were you the secret keeper for the Potters?"
"No."
Amelia paused at that answer but she had to ask the next question and she somehow had an idea of what the answer would be. "Who was the secret keeper for the Potters?"
"Peter Pettigrew"
Amelia had to use all her self control to not turn around and glare at the cage hidden behind Dumbledore's desk. "What happened when you confronted Pettigrew on the morning of November 2 1981?" While the Ministry had their own version of what happened she suspected no one asked Sirius.
"I wanted to bring Peter to the ministry, after I had realized that it was him who betrayed us. When I confronted him outside his flat, I noticed the dark mark on his arm, but he was prepared for me to take the fall for him, screaming that it was me who betrayed Lily and James to Voldemort and suddenly a blasting hex shot out from behind him, hitting a gas tank which exploded. Before I knew it, I was in shackles and taken away by the Aurors."
The room was deadly silent after Sirius's recap of that fateful morning. Amelia felt a headache coming on and it wasn't because of the political fallout Sirius unknowingly had set off. Shaking her head to ward off the distaste of Crouch's behavior at the end of the war she had to ask a question that had been on her mind for some time. "Why did you switch places as secret keeper with Pettigrew?"
"I was too obvious. I was meant to be the decoy. Nobody would look for Peter if he was the secret keeper."
Amelia rubbed her forehead and she had one last question she was not going to like the answer to. "Why wasn't any of this revealed at your interrogation when you were brought into the Ministry?"
Sirius's words made Amelia's blood go cold. "I wasn't given one. Crouch took the report of what happened on the street from witnesses and the dead muggles and didn't bother asking me anything and just told the Auror who brought me in to take me directly to Azkaban."
Amelia quickly turned around and walked over to the desk to make sure the dicta quill caught that last statement. Nodding her head she gestured to Shacklebolt to give Black the antidote to the Veritaserum.
As the effects of the Veritaserum were canceled out by the antidote, Amelia had to work hard to keep her own temper in check when she turned towards John. "Chief Wulf, I imagine you have Peter Pettigrew secure in that cage but has he heard anything that was just discussed previously?"
John shook his head. "No ma'am. The cloth is enchanted to be a silencing field. no sounds in or out. It's a useful type of sensory deprivation for prisoners." John explained.
Amelia nodded satisfied with Pettigrew's current state. Dumbledore's voice drew her attention back to the headmaster. "As you can see, Madam Bones, Peter went to great lengths to hide himself while Sirius was in Azkaban. Perhaps we can now invite the current and previous 'owner' of the rat?" Dumbledore took that moment to reach down and pick up the aforementioned rat in his cage and placed it on his desk.
Behind her Amelia heard a low growl and turned around to glare at Sirius. "You," Amelia pointed her finger at the former prisoner of Azkaban, "Will behave. In fact, I think it would be best you shift back into your animagus form. The last thing we need are those boys panicking at seeing you here."
But Sirius was too busy staring at the cage wanting to rush over and rip the rat's head off. But Amelia's next words had him looking over at her in a wary look.
Shaking her head in exasperation Amelia threatened to treat him like a common dog if he does not behave. "If I have to I will conjure a collar and a leash to have you held in check. Do I make myself clear? You have done your part, let me handle this."
Sirius grumbled and sighed. "Fine, I'll be good doggie." With that Sirius shifted back into Padfoot and sat back on his haunches and stared balefully at the cage.
Amelia rolled her eyes at Sirius childish antics and gestured to Dumbledore to summon the students in question. Dumbledore wrote a quick note and summoned a house elf and instructed the house elf to hand the note over to the head boy. Smiling politely at Amelia after that was done Dumbledore asked if Amelia would like some tea while they waited.
Amelia politely declined the offer and sat at an empty chair glaring at the cloth covered cage. She was trying to remember her Care of Magical Creatures studies to recall what was the average lifespan of a common rat.
‐—-‐—-
They heard a knock on the office door and John turned to open the door. Dumbledore then removed the cloth from the cage and informed Amelia that, as it was now revealed to the Aurors that it was an old brown garden rat.
On the other side of the door, Ron and Percy Weasley were standing with a curious look on their faces. Ron then noticed the cage on Dumbledore's desk and screamed. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH SCABBERS!"
Percy pulled his brother back, apologized for the behavior of his younger brother. "Ron, I am sure that we will get an explanation soon, but I wonder why Madam Bones is also here. Did something happen to our family?"
Dumbledore smiled and shook his head. "No Percy, nothing happened to your family. I asked you both so Madam Bones can ask you about this rat of yours before we continue with the rest. Madam Bones?"
Amelia looked at the redheads and pulled out a small notebook. "Percy Weasley, can you tell us when you adopted this rat? It seems that something is not right with it."
Percy looked at the cage and scrunched his neck in thought. "Well, it has to be over ten years by now. To be honest with you Madam Bones, I wondered to myself why it lived that long, but I thought that it had something to do with the magic in our home. And after I got my owl from my father for becoming a prefect, I gifted Scabbbers to Ron." Percy shrugged, not sure what the problem was. Although he did have to wonder how the rat was still alive.
Ron was still angry that Scabbers was in a cage, but he calmed down enough to answer the question. "We had Scabbbers for almost as long as I can remember. There is nothing strange about him, so why is he in a cage in the first place?"
Amelia sighed at the boy's ignorance. "Because rats, even a common garden rat, do not live for more than three years. I do not know the longest lived rat but I know they could not survive, even in captivity for more than five years. This", Amelia points to the cage, "Is no ordinary rat."
Dumbledore coughed to bring the attention back to him. "Ah yes, I think it is time we reveal what is special about this rat. Madam Bones, please be ready just in case."
Dumbledore waved his wand and sealed every window, nook, and cranny in the office so the rat could not run away. John walked over to the desk and grabbed the rat in the cage and pulled it out, holding it in front of the Aurors. Dumbledore stood next to John, asking Amelia if she would do the honors to revert Pettigrew back to his human form.
Amelia looked at the headmaster, calling Tonks to grab a chair and bind Pettigrew to it as soon he reverted. Pulling out her wand she pointed it at the rat and cast the charm.
The rat struggled in John's hand, but as soon the spell hit it, it grew in size and its legs changed to arms and legs, as his head looked much more human-like after a few seconds. Just as Peter Pettigrew stood to his full height, his clothes looking torn and not being washed for a decade, Tonks summoned ropes and threw them at Pettigrew so he would be pushed back into the chair and bound.
Pettigrew was looking around nervously, eyes darting left and right. His eyes soon were fixated on the large black dog sitting next to Lupin and Shacklebolt. The sight of the dog staring at him caused Pettigrew to whimper in fear.
Ron and Percy were shocked and pale at the sight, but they kept silent despite what happened before their eyes. Dumbledore looked over to them and walked between them and Pettigrew. "Mr. Weasley, you and your brother can leave now. What happens next, is nothing for such young wizards as you are. We will call you if needed, so please stay close by just in case." Dumbledore then released the charm that sealed the door shut, as Peter was now bound to the chair.
Ron just nodded and opened the door so he could leave together with Percy in haste.
Trying to loosen the ropes, Pettigrew noticed that they just became tighter around his ankles and hands, so he stopped.
Amelia stepped in front of him, Veritaserum in her hand. "Peter Pettigrew, I give you one chance to tell us the truth before I use this to force you to. And before you tell me that this would be illegal because you are a pureblood, do not forget that you are officially dead and have no rights until the trial that will await you either way. Why did you fake your death?"
Pettigrew was now sweating, looking at the small vial in Amelia's hand. His lips trembled, but he began to speak. "I-I had to hide myself from Sirius Black! He is mad, he wanted to kill me just like his master had killed James and Lily." He was interrupted by a small thing on the desk from Dumbledore, as John slapped his hand on it.
Amelia, after turning back to Pettigrew, held the vial closer to his face. "So, why did you hide even after Black was brought to Azkaban, a prison that no one ever escaped from until recently. Why did you not reveal yourself? From whom did you really hide?"
Pettigrew clamped up, closing his mouth. Letting out a sigh, Amelia asked Shacklebolt and Tonks to grab Pettigrew and open his mouth so she could use the Veritaserum. Shacklebolt grabbed the head and opened Pettigrew's mouth as Amelia opened the vial and placed the three drops from the Vertiasserum inside Pettigrew's gullet.
Amelia watched Pettigrew, and when she saw that the serum had taken effect, she asked her question again. This time, Pettigrew answered.
"I was hiding from the other Death Eaters, as those who escaped capture may still try to find me."
"Why would Death Eaters try to find you? And what would they do when they did?" Amelia was still inching closer to Pettigrew, while Shacklebolt was holding Pettigrew still even if he was bounded. At that moment, Tonks saw something and grabbed Pettigrew's jacket sleeve and pulled it up.
With an evil grin, Tonks looked at Pettigrew before turning to her boss. "It seems that he is also one of them who escaped Azkaban after Voldemort's fall, Madam Bones. But that still does not explain why he was hiding during all those years."
Pettigrew tried to pull back his arm, but the ropes were too tight to move. But he was still compelled to tell the truth. "I was the secret keeper from James and Lily Potter, and I told the Dark Lord where to find them when he asked me. So, the other Death Eaters would think that I betrayed the Dark Lord and would try to kill me. "
Tonks frowned as she looked at Pettigrew. Something didn't make sense to her. "I get that you wanted to steer clear of Death Eaters but why hide with the Weasleys?"
Unfortunately Pettigrew was still under the influence of the truth serum and was compelled to answer. "The Weasleys are a known light family, allies to Dumbledore. I thought I could gather information to be used by the Death Eaters when the Dark Lord returns."
Behind Pettigrew John and Dumbledore gave each other a subtle glance. They were not expecting the DMLE to be tipped off that Voldemort was not truly gone. Cortana decided to file this tidbit of information to the report to ONI.
Amelia stood back up, turning to Dumbledore after telling Shacklebolt and Tonks to search his pockets for a hidden wand, just in case. "Headmaster, we will take him and Pettigrew to the Ministry and then call for an emergency Wizengamot session, so we can have the trial that Mr. Black should have had all those years ago. Mr. Lupin, will you accompany us? I think that Mr. Black will be more docile as long as you are around."
Sirius turned back to his human form, his smirk back on its place. "Oh don't worry Amelia, I will behave in your presence. All I want is to keep an eye on the rat at all times until the trial is over."
Shacklebolt walked over to Amelia and handed her the wand they had found on Pettigrew. "Madam Bones, you may want to have a look at this. According to the description we have on file on You-Know-Who, this is his wand. This is further evidence that Pettigrew was there when the attack on the Potters happened."
After Shacklebolt had finished this sentence, you could feel how the temperature fell inside the office.
"Stupefy" Without warning a red light struck Pettigrew who promptly slumped in his chair.
Everyone looked over to Lupin, whose eyes were no longer brown, but almost pure yellow from anger. "Madam Bones, take him with you before we do something we'll regret. Sirius, whatever she tells you, follow her lead. If everything goes according to plan, you will soon be cleared of the accusations."
Amelia nodded and levitated Pettigrew's unconscious body. "Yes, I give you my word he will get his trial Mr. Black. While I know you are innocent we cannot walk out of this office much less into the Ministry as if you are a free man. I'm afraid I'm going to need to place you in shackles. We will take the Floo from here if that is okay for you headmaster. We do not need the Dementors to know where Sirius is until he is in a holding cell for his hearing."
Sirius pouted at the mention of being in shackles but he knew Amelia was right, signing dramatically, Sirius looked over at Amelia with a grin. "I didn't know you were into bondage Amelia but if you must tie me up, feel free." Sirius yelped in pain as he rubbed his backside, before he could turn around he found one of his arms being held as irons were placed on his wrist.
Shaking her head Tonks holstered her wand and grabbed her cousin's other wrist and put the iron on it. "I know mum said you were a shameless flirt when you were younger but I didn't think you were that bad. Try to remember that this is your key to freedom, don't piss her off Sirius."
Amelia smirked at Sirius pouting. "Do behave Black. Or you'll get a stinging hex from me in a place you would rather not get." Sirius looked to Amelia with fear.
