The Outbounder escaped the hanger of S.W.O.R.D.s Peak station and raced its way across space. With the ship still in disrepair, the crew knew that they had to attempt planet-side if they hoped for any chance of survival. It didn't take long for S.W.O.R.D. Snub fighters to engage the cargo freighter. They attempted to evade the fighters, while avoiding their incoming fire. Luckily the Outbounders' shields were able to hold.
Inside the cockpit of the Outbounder, Marr is pushing his concentration to its limits piloting the ship while Rusty is zooming about trying to make what repairs it could.
"I know! I know! I see them!" Marr snapped back at the droid, whom fired back with ear piercing screeches and beeps just as a power cupeling de-cupelled and heated exhaust engulfed the corridor.
"Just keep us in one piece" Explained Marr, "We'll never make it outside this system, we have to go planet-side."
The droid continues with its hysterics as it points out the glaringly obvious.
"Yes, I noticed the extremely large warship blocking our path!" Marr fired back, shaking in his seat from the constant fire repeatedly impacting the ship. "What do you think I'm heading for?"
There was a short pause before Rusty suddenly started ramming itself into the back of the Marrs pilot chair.
"We don't have a choice, Rusty!" The Jedi cried out, "I need to get us close for you to take out enough of its orbital guns. Otherwise we won't make it past the atmosphere."
Rusty let out a puzzling beep.
"Yes you! I can't man the turret and fly the ship at the same time."
The droid went into a panicked frenzy before receiving a a piercing "stare" from the Jedi.
"Rusty! I need you to do this ... I believe in you.
The droid turned to face the wall, staring at its reflection in a panel and expressed a series of whistles and beeps as if it was talking to itself. A few moments later, Rusty raced off towards the ships turret station.
"I suddenly have a really bad feeling about this."
The Outbounder raced towards the nearby planet, only to fly into the path of the S.W.O.R.D. capital ship. As the warship came into full view, the Jedi couldn't help but notice that, aesthetically, it was a completely different design compared to the station and fighters. It's hull was more sleeker and oval shaped, making it a contrast to its smaller, angular counterparts.
As the freighter closed the distance between the two ships, the warships turrets began warming up, readying for when the freighter gets within range.
Meanwhile, back on Peak station, it's personnel have been closely monitoring the situation closely. From the bridges massive windows, everyone could see the light show taking place outside as their fighters attempt to engage the alien vessel, only to have them be outmanoeuvred at every turn. Director Brand has been coordinating with the rest of her agents before Agents Danvers and Drew arrived on the bridge.
"Nice of you to join us agents." The Director spat out. "Take a look at the colossal shit show, you've both left me to deal with."
"Director, with all do respect, we had no clue as to this man's abilities."
"Was that before or after he threw you into a wall?" Agent Drew said while failing to conceal a smirked.
Agent Danvers quickly stared daggers towards her partner and before she could retort back, their boss gave them both a stern look. But before she could chastise them further, another agent called over from her station.
"Director! Alien vessel approaching Earths proximity, the Damocles is moving to intercept."
Brand and her agents looked out of the observation windows to see, off in the distance, the alien ship speeding towards the sword shaped dreadnaught.
"It's heading straight for the Damocles?" Agent Drew spoke up in surprise.
"He's insane!"
The Damocles open fired on the Outbounder, but the small freighter was able to avoid the incoming fire and quickly manoeuvre around the surface of the dreadnaught, strategically blasting away numerous of its turrets. This gave the ship a pathway towards the underbelly of the Damocles, where it began targeting its orbital guns.
On the bridge of the Damocles, it's captain; Agent Deems, immediately received an incoming message from the Director.
"Agent Deems! Why aren't you blasting that alien ship!?"
The Captain fired back. "That alien ship is too fast and at too close range! We need to scramble more of our fighters." He ended the communication before uttering under his breath. "Five bloody minutes ago."
At that moment a strange, orange skinned alien with a long snout, approached the captain.
"This pilot must be crazy if they think that ship can penetrate the Damocles armour..."
"They're not trying to penetrate our armour, Sydren." the captain snapped back. "They're trying to clear out our orbital cannons ... in order to make a brake for the planets surface."
The Outbounder continued its assault upon the Damocles. With the combined efforts of Marrs piloting and R5s surprisingly crack shot aiming, they were able to damage enough of the orbital guns to create just the opening they need.
"Great job Rusty!" Marr enthusiastically called out. "I never doubted you." The beeps and whistles erupting from the ships comm caught the Jedi off guard. "No need to be so testy."
On that note he pulled the the Outbounder away from the dreadnaught, and made a break towards the planet below. As the light freighter began to descend into the atmosphere, it's scanners picked up something coming within range ... several somethings.
"More incoming fighters!" He called out, "Hold onto something!"
A squadron of S.W.O.R.D. Snub fighters engaged in pursuit of the Outbounder, opening fire upon the freighter as they do so. The chase amongst the clouds continued as Marr attempted to outmanoeuvre his pursuers as the droid gunner returned fire.
"Just keep them on their toes, Rusty." Marr called into the intercom, "We don't want them dead."
This strategy continued for a while as the Outbounder continued it course towards its nearest destination; one of the largest continental land mass on the planets western hemisphere. As they continued their approach, one of the pursuing fighters locked onto them and fired a missile. Thanks to his Jedi reflexes, Marr avoided the incoming projectile as it rocketed over the the ship and detonated ahead of him.
"Interesting." The Jedi pondered, "They still employ ballistic technology?"
Rustys concerning buzzing erupted through the intercom.
"I know! I know!" He cried back. "The defector shields are designed to deter space debris and energy projectiles. Not high impact ballistics."
Suddenly an alarm went off in the cockpit.
"Rusty!?"
The droid fired back in a panicking barrage of beeps and screeches.
"Well hurry up and fix it!
As the Outbounder reached the surface of this new world, the ships engine started to falter, due to the delicate disrepair state the ship was already in and the strain Marr was pushing the ship. Already the ship started to drop its altitude erratically, as their pursuers were closing their distance. Struggling to avoid their incoming fire, one of the fighters missiles managed to hit its mark. Though the shields managed to provide some protection, the sheer force of the impact managed to knock the Outbounder off its path and knocked out the engine, causing the ship to start a rapid downward decent.
"Rusty?"
The ship continued downwards, as Marr noticed they were heading towards a dessert canyon and a very large rock face.
"Gonna need the engine back!"
The ship was getting closer.
"Rusty!!!"
Without a moments notice, the console lightened up back to life once again. Marr grabbed the controls and pulled the ship up from its decent. It was too late to avoid the rock face, but luckily he noticed an narrow opening on its surface. Hoping it'll lead to the canyon beyond, Marr turned the ship on its side and squeezed through the gap, avoiding crashing into the rocky surface.
The pursuing fighters pulled back and flew above the canyon and scanned the nearby area for any sign of alien ship.
"This is Dagger leader to Peak station, we have lost visual of target vessel. I repeat, we have lost visual."
"Dagger leader, this is Peak station. You and Dagger Squadron return to the Peak. Director Brand wants a full debriefing."
"Rodger that Peak Station."
