A/N: Before beginning the next chapter, I will respond to a couple of reviews since I got some aside from alwaysdoubted, who always leaves a review per our partnership.
First, from prayogatama52f5: "Can I add an OC like an Indonesian fighter and maybe Minazuki's bff?"
That's a pretty dope concept. For those who don't know, Pencak Silat is one of the Martial Arts originating from Indonesia brought to the public's eye thanks to Iko Uwais in The Raids 1 & 2, so I'm honestly surprised Namdai didn't incorporate Silat into the series yet. As for making this OC Minazuki's best friend, well, that would defeat the purpose of having Shuwamei around since she's his best friend. However, if I introduce an Indonesian fighter, I'll give you a guaranteed shoutout.
Second, from Freedmoon: "You know what? Why not lol one follow to see what comes next."
I'm glad I got your attention, considering this review was placed in Minazuki's CQs. Lemme ask you a question, Freedmoon. What about Minazuki's bio that made you decide to stick around?
Next, JMA_Blazer over on AO3: "Alright, I'm sold."
Obviously, you can't hear my voice, but I hollered when I first read that. Welcome aboard.
Lastly, from Kamen Rider Sentry: "Hah, not bad. Hope he meets Reina soon and learns more about the fighting styles."
I figured as much. Considering Reina broke Tekken's Twitter when she was revealed, I'm not surprised there's a review like this. Most of you are here for Pixie Heihachi, and she's coming soon. Just be patient. I can't just drop her in the story, even if she was one of the main characters. But I understand Reina's super popular, so you want to see as much of her as possible. I would know since I main her in T8 alongside Momma Kazama.
Alright, enough rambling. Keep sending those reviews in; I'll comment on them in the next chapter.
Minazuki's Current Fight Record: 3-0 / Current Rank: ?
It's been a week since I joined Mishima Polytechnic. Since my fight with Aizawa and my and Shu's brawl with some of his friends, I haven't had anyone else challenge me. Not that I'm complaining. I want to finish these two years of school so I can leave. Shu has decided to integrate herself into my life, as since we're both new students who practice martial arts, some battle-hungry or unlikable students will try to pick fights with us. But Shu is nice to me. We spend a lot of our time together, but never enough, where either one of us gets sick of the other, or people start talking.
The day was almost over, and the last class had a few minutes left. The teacher was finishing his lecture, but before he could finish, a student barged in.
"The rankings were updated!"
The other students ran outside, except for me, Shu, and another student.
"We should wait until the lecture's over."
"Agreed."
The teacher for Life Science, Mr. Haritomo, turned around and noticed most of the class had left.
"Hmph, at least you three are still here. I would tell the class there will be an exam on what was taught here. But since they all left, I guess it'll be a pop quiz for them. Minazuki, Mei-Yin, Kamiya. You three are exempt to express my gratitude for caring more than the fight records."
The last bell tolled.
"Don't come to the next class, you three. I'll let Counselor Kyoko know of your exemption. Dismissed."
"Lucky break, eh Shu?"
"I'll say. Good thing since I wasn't paying attention," she revealed. "Let's go see the rankings."
"Yeah, let's," I say as we pack our stuff up and head to the main foyer. "You think we'll get a massive rank up?"
"I doubt it. Sure, we're both 3-0, but Aizawa has friends among all three years. I don't recognize those two." She then had a look of deep contemplation. "But we are on a winning streak and haven't lost yet."
"With how you're phrasing it, Shu, it sounds like we're only going to get more challenges because of our fight records."
"I think that's exactly going to happen, Minazuki. Maybe that's why we got no fights since your first day. They were waiting for the rankings to change."
"But you said the rankings change every day."
"Correct, but when there are fights every day, they hold off. Yesterday was the first day in the week when there wasn't one. They finally had the time."
We stood in front of the rankings board. Shu said she was #20 after showing me the rankings board on my first day, so I started looking for her first.
"Shu, I found you. Number 15."
"What? I shouldn't have jumped that high. If I'm number 15, where are you, Minazuki?"
We started looking for mine.
"There you are. You broke the top ten."
"What!?" I say while looking at number 10, and there I am. "Minazuki Hirose, 3-0." I voice my record aloud. "How am I ranked higher than you? We have the same record."
"Like I said, you beat Aizawa more convincingly than me in addition to one-shotting the thug that attacked you last week."
"No one knows that."
"Minazuki, there are cameras everywhere in case a fight breaks out in the buildings. A camera probably caught our quick scuffle with those other students."
Crap. If I'm in the ten and Shu's fifteen, her prediction might actually be correct.
"You should start packing your sparring gloves with your other things now, Shu. Especially if you plan on sticking with me."
Shu then opened her handbag and pulled out her sparring gloves. "I learned my lesson the day we met. I'm heading back to my dorm. I'll see you later, Minazuki."
"Later, Shu," I say goodbye before viewing my rank. "This is not good..."
All of a sudden, I hear a boisterous noise to my right. "Booyah! Number five!"
I look to my right and see a girl looking at the third-year ranking boards. I break eye contact before turning to head back to the dormitory.
"Hey wait a tick."
I turned around and see the girl inches away from my face. "You're the freshie who beat up Aizawa last week, right?"
I got a closer look at her face thanks to her invasion of my personal space. She was a white girl with dirty blonde hair that fell down past her neck but not her shoulders. Some of it was swept in front of her forehead. Her eyes were a striking hazel, and she wore light black eyeliner. She had on lip gloss, and her chest was so well-endowed that it looked like it was strangling her uniform top.
Creating some distance between us, I answered her. "Yeah, that was me." Regardless of her attitude, I extend a hand. "Minazuki."
She eagerly took my hand and shook it. "Anderson, but everybody calls me Zoey. I'm a freshie too, but not as new as you are, Minazuki-kun."
Her southern accent was thick. "I can tell, you aren't Japanese. Are you from the United States?"
"Yup! Dallas, Texas is where I grew up. Mishima put in a request to get me here. Don't rightly know why he took an interest in me, but he offered to guarantee my folks' financial stability if I made the flight. So here I am."
"You're awfully forthright with that information, Anderson."
"Call me Zoey." She then whispered in my ear. "I know that he did the same to you too."
I was shocked.
"Consider us kindred spirits, Minazuki-kun. It should be universally agreed that Mishima is sketchy. So much like how you and Shuwamei watch out for each other, I'd much like to be a part of that group. I promise the Third Years won't bother you much if ya let me in."
"I don't see a problem with that, Zoey. Shu and I are trying to make the next two years as smooth as possible."
"And I totally get that. I'll make sure to hit Shuwamei up, considerin' we all live in the same buildin', after all."
"You live in our dorm too?"
"I'm just a floor above ya since I'm a Third Year."
So Shu was right about all the mid-year transfers being sent to live in a specific dorm. It's like the school wants them to get bullied.
"Good to know."
"Well, I gotta get goin' since I need to clean my room. I'll make sure to talk to Shuwamei about what we discussed."
"Sounds like a plan, Zoey. Until next time."
I extend my hand again but Zoey smacks it out of the way. Before giving me a deep hug and (I think unintentionally) smothering my face in her breasts.
"-oooey!" I tried to yell her name to get her to stop, but her mounds muffled me.
"See ya later, Minazuki-kun!"
I just stood there for what seemed like forever. What the hell just happened?
"Excuse me." A voice from behind me spoke up.
Snapping me out of what just happened, I turned around to see who was calling for me. "Oh, it's you. You were with me and Shu in Mr. Haritomo's Life Science class." I recall before remembering his name. "Kamiya, right?"
"That's right. Kamiya Shin." We shook hands. "I was wondering if I could ask you a question."
"And what would that be?"
"You and Shuwamei. Are you two-"
"Are you two what, Kamiya?"
"Dating?"
I swear my brain fried a little from that question. "No, we're not dating. What made you come to that conclusion?"
"I mean, the other Second Years say you two are near inseparable. Word started getting around that you two were dating after a week in."
"How come no one told us? We would've nipped that in the bud."
"Because you two are in the top twenty of the Second Years and the rest of us can't fight, so we feared the worst if we asked."
"I'm barely in the ten and Shu's only fifteen. Neither of us are looking for fights, so how the others came to that conclusion is beyond me," I respond.
"You taking out Aizawa last week doesn't help your case Minazuki-san," Kamiya countered. "You fought him out of self-defense, but from what the others say, it looks like you're the one who started the fight with how bad he looks."
"We're not dating, Kamiya. Why are you even asking me anyway? It's not like you know her. She's only been here a day longer than me."
"Yeah, but..." He became sheepish. "I'm why she fought Aizawa on her first day."
"What?"
"She saw me getting bullied by him and stuck up for me despite not knowing me or anyone in the school. When Aizawa attacked her, he wasn't expecting her to know Tae Kwon Do. The surprise was why she beat him."
That explains why Shu said she didn't beat him nearly as badly as I did. Best not press her about that; I was most likely on need to know and we just met.
"I just want to get to know her a little better and thank her for standing up for me."
"Oh, I get it now. You've been a student here long?"
"I've been here as long as Aizawa, so I went to elementary and middle school with him. I didn't know where Shuwamei stayed, so I hoped you did."
"Yeah, I just learned from Anderson that all mid-year transfer students live in a specific dormitory. Shu went there after we came to see our rankings," I explain as we walk outside.
I notice Zoey getting into it with some of the other Third Years when we get out. After a short conversation, she kicks one of them in the stomach.
She saw and called for me. "Minazuki-kun! Gimme a hand, will ya?"
"Kamiya, can you fight?"
"No, I can't."
I give him a subtle glare. "I'm already not liking your chances with Shu. Wait here."
I quickly obtained and put on my sparring gloves before sprinting. I punched one of Zoey's attackers in the hip before front-kicking them in the stomach.
"You keep your sparring gloves in your bag?"
"You never know when you need to cave someone's face in, Zoey."
"Huh, you say you don't want no trouble, but yet you do somethin' like that."
"Just being proactive."
"Thanks. Here they come."
Her attackers rushed us. I parry one of the attackers before kicking his knees and landing a hook across his jaw.
"Stupid Second Year. You're defending this gaijin?"
"Th' hell's a gaijin?"
"It means foreigner. Zoey-senpai's a friend, so it'd be bad of me if I left her to fend for herself."
"You just can't seem to stay out of trouble in Second Year. First, that meathead Aizawa and his goons, and now you helping Anderson is going to earn you an enemy of all the Third Years."
"If you're gonna hate me, then learn my name."
The other Third Year bellowed. "We will, Minazuki. Get set for a visit to Nurse Yamagishi. Kenta, let's switch since you're having trouble with Anderson still. Deal with Minazuki."
"Sure, Kina."
I beckoned him to approach but didn't plan on playing fair. The moment he closed the distance, I stomped on his toe and threw myself at him to strike his jaw with a vicious straight, sending him flying. He flew so far that he hit Kina, which caused her to trip and allowed Zoey to chop her in the neck. She then punched Kina in the face before grabbing her shirt and tossing her to the ground.
"Sheesh, who needs a gym membership when you can regularly attend this place, eh, Minazuki-kin?"
"I'll say. Though what Kenta said before knocking him out troubles."
"Don't be. I got your back until I can get outta this hellhole. You and Shuwamei can count on me."
"Minazuki-san." Kamiya ran up to me after I had a chance to catch my breath. "That was incredible. I see why Aizawa looks so beat up. I didn't know there were stomps in Kyokushin Karate."
"They aren't. But I can save fighting cleanly for another Kyokushin practitioner."
"Awfully smart of you, Minazuki-kun. It's a solid way to hide the straightforwardness of traditional Karate."
"We haven't met, Anderson-senpai. I'm Kamiya."
"It's nice to meet ya, Kamiya-kun. What are you doin' hanging around bad news Minazuki here?"
"I take offense to that."
"Oh, hush."
"I want to speak to Shuwamei, and I figured if I hung around Minazuki-san long enough, I could run into her."
"Well I'll be. I'm on the way to her dorm to chat her up. Might as well come with me, Kamiya-kun."
"S-sure, Anderson-senpai. We'll talk later, Minazuki-senpai."
"Yeah, Kamiya. I'll probably see you tomorrow, Zoey-senpai."
"Most likely until then. Oh, and keep an eye out on those ranking boards since you did help me beat the sixth and seventh strongest fighters in the Third Year."
"Will do Zo- What!?"
"Ta, Minazuki-kun!"
She and Kamiya walked into the transfer student dorms. I breathe defeatedly before getting my bag to put my sparring gloves away. As I did so, I heard clapping.
"Very impressive, Minazuki-senpai." A highish voice spoke. "To beat up a couple of Third Years is pretty impressive, even with assistance from another Third Year."
"Don't tell me you want to fight, too," I respond to my mystery conversation partner.
"Oh no, senpai!" Then her voice got sultry and dark. "Unless you want to."
I zip my bag up and stand to look at a petite young woman around my age, if not a few months younger. Her black hair was cut in an untidy bob, and she wore the standard Mishima Polytechnic Uniform. She portrayed herself as an innocent girl, but her demeanor was heavily betrayed by her eyes. There was a piercing gaze behind them as if she was sizing up a mark like an assassin or if a predator was stalking its prey.
"I don't know who you are, but you don't sound so innocent. I can tell you're very aggressive just from the sudden change in your tone. You can drop the 'notice me senpai' act."
She then shook her head. "I don't know what you're talking about, Minazuki-senpai. I was passing by and noticed your scuffle with Kina and Kenta. They're an infamous pair of Third Years in the same camp as Aizawa in our year."
"You're a Second Year? I've never seen you before."
"Well, you and Shuwamei-senpai are both new!" She maintained her innocent act before bowing. "I'm Reina, Minazuki-senpai."
"Given or Family name?"
"Given. My family name isn't important, Senpai."
"It is if you care for basic etiquette." I counter.
"It won't help us get through school."
I breathe out of my nose, clearly losing my patience. "Well, Reina. Nice to meet you, but I must return to my dorm room. We can talk later."
"Okay, Zuki-senpai! Until then!"
"Don't call me that, please."
I walk into the building.
"Minazuki, over here."
I see Shu, with Zoey and Kamiya sitting in the foyer. I move to sit with them.
"I saw ya chattin' with Silent and Violent over there," Zoey started this conversation.
"Who, Reina?"
"Yup! From what I could gather from the Third Years who didn't want to put my head on a swivel, she ain't known for talkin' but fightin'. She's number one and undefeated in every fight she took part in."
"So why is she talking to me?"
"Your guess is as good as ours, Minazuki-san," Kamiya said. "Anderson-senpai is right in regards to her not speaking much. She was transferred last year and was moved to the female dorms when the school year began."
"Speaking of what Zoey-senpai told us, we'll have to look at the rankings tomorrow since you two fended off Kina and Kenta."
"Zoey could've handled them without me," I said.
"I'm flattered, Minazuki-kun, but I ain't that skilled. I seriously needed your help with those two. I'm trained to take on multiple opponents, but I don't rightly know if I actually can."
Not very skilled but is almost in the top three of the Third Years.
"Yeah, your style is something I have never seen before."
"That's 'cause it's a mix of multiple styles. Systema mixed with Krav Maga. Learned it from my folks to craft 'the ultimate defense' as they said. Hence, my moniker among the other Third-years is 'Untouchable Anderson.' But I ain't never seen someone fly like you did to Kenta, Minazuki-kun. You hit hard as hell, I can tell."
"I've been practicing Kyokushin since I was a kid. All that conditioning and training I did had to add up somewhere."
"But if anything, it's your willingness to break Kyokushin's strict traditions to get the edge over your opponent, Minazuki. Kneeing Aizawa in the groin, stomping on Kenta's toes before clocking him with a straight punch."
"Strict is an understatement. If my senseis learned of my tactics, I'd most likely be kicked out of my dojo, and my gear would be confiscated. I'll be disgraced for sure."
"That info won't leave the school unless someone who learned of this yaps to the Counselor. Our lips are sealed."
"Anderson-senpai is right, Minazuki-san. Though the Dirty Kyokushin is a pretty cool moniker," Kamiya remarked.
"No way. Disgraced Kyokushin's cooler. Right, Zoey-senpai?"
"Nah, I'd say Dirty Kyokushin's better."
"I'm heading back to my room. I'll talk to you all later."
"Later, Minazuki. Rest well."
"See ya tomorrow at the rankin' boards, Minazuki-kun," Zoey said.
A/N: These chapters are short, huh? But I want it that way since I view this story as a break from stories like Role Reversal, Project Justice, and GbNF.
Making the chapters concise seems right up this story's alley. Anyway, Minazuki has met a few more characters, Zoey (aka Female Tekken Force Soldier), Shin Kamiya (iykyk), and had a brief conversation with everyone's favorite Pixie Mishima, Reina. He also defeated two Third Years, which will no doubt invite more trouble for him and this group of now four.
We'll see how and his new ranking on the next installment of My Best Friend is a Wannabe Tyrant.
