Chapter 160: The final stand in the Evelyn Residence
Despite all the time that has seemingly passed, we are still fighting in this estate, not just for the fate of this place, but for the fate of the nation, both here and the one we are at when we're awake. I get the sense though, that it won't be for too much longer now, as we have dealt with a powerful monster that came from the basement, and are now dealing with the enemy troops that are from there, in which hopefully they are all that stands between us, and Neptune herself, or at least the place that will have information on her whereabouts, or even the place that will provide us with the means to deprive them of their strength.
As I expected, the enemy from the basement, were regular monsters just like the ones we've seen before. Despite the speed of them, and the numbers of them in which even now after mowing through countless numbers, there's still a high enough number to concern us significantly, our light machine guns are able to mow them down before harming us, even if they can get quite close to within striking distance, which proves to be quite nerve wracking considering they are seemingly endless, and yet along with our bullets being finite, we need to reload.
Eventually, which I honestly wasn't expecting after what I've seen though it only makes sense, the enemy monsters stop rushing, and we're able to mow down the remaining ones, while being much more relaxed, especially since we'll need to resupply our ammunition for our LMGs. In fact it's not even the case that the enemy is forced to take a breather with their relentless assault, they've stopped attacking all together, and yet they haven't even sent anything else, not even any enemy soldiers to engage us.
I find this odd, that they continue to throw troops away at us, knowing that we're not really suffering any casualties from this whereas they are, even if we're having to spend lots and lots of rounds of ammunition, though perhaps they assume that we can get more in rapid time, even though in reality we can get more but depending on the circumstances it could take a significant amount of time. The only thing I can think of is apart from the lack of strategy from their side, the lack of care for their own units, which is Neptune's MO, or even their attempt at taunting us that they're so sure of their victory that they can just throw soldiers at us, is that this is a desperte attempt for them to buy time considering they must believe that us heading for there is inevitable, and they are trying to do all they can to ready whatever they have in hopes of changing the tide back in their favour, that monster must have been their plan A, and they are relying on enacting plan B at the right time.
Something tells me that they have something rather sinister down there, and we will have to fight our way through to find out, and to do so quickly if we are to have the best chance of putting a stop to whatever it is they are working on.
The trouble is that while we have won the previous engagement decisively, we will need to retake the area again as we've been driven out by those monsters, and I've no doubt that they've sent out soldiers afterwards to reinforce, effectively bringing us back to the situation before they came rushing out.
Nevertheless that's the worst outcome, and while we'll still need to be careful to make sure we don't recklessly charge in and lose lives in the process, it could be that the lack of enemies allows us to check the area sooner.
With this in mind, I give the order to try and use mirrors to help us find the enemy, and if there aren't any in the area at all, we can try and advance to the nearest place where there's cover, and repeat the process again and again until we can retake the entire area, or at the very least we can try and engage without being worried of being shot down if we were to attempt that tactic.
While the mirrors are not much help due to the size of them, as a result of the need to be able to carry them easily, they are better than nothing, and though it takes time, we have managed to observe some of the area we wish to take from our location, and with us finding no enemies in those specific parts, we then spray and pray for a while before peeking around, only to find that there are a relatively small but significant number of enemies in the area, who were waiting for us to enter through the doors and windows.
In response to this, we throw flash bangs at their locations, as well as in the rest of the area that is not in our line of sight from where we are, before quickly but carefully advancing and taking out the enemies there without any trouble, resulting in us taking the area once again, relieved that it didn't take too much time and that we have managed to maintain our troop numbers.
Now to fight our way through the underground secret passage to the basement, in which we'll need to fight with courage, skill and strategy, if we are to maintain our abiliity to keep our losses low, and therefore maintain the pressure on the enemy, since I've no doubt that the knowledge of our presence could panic them, and they could end up botching their plans, or at the very least ensure that there's the troops on hand to ruin their plan before it's too late. With this in mind and taking into consideration the terrain and conditions, we are going to use night vision goggles, which should give us the advantage, since they'll probably only have torches going by what we've already seen, along with mirrors to use around all the corners, in which they shouldn't be able to see, flashbangs for when we engage along with shotguns, submachine guns and assualt rifles, and all this should ensure that we win, whatever troops they have there, and wherever they're positioned exactly.
The thing is though, even if we can't be sure of the exact location of the enemy troops in the secret passage, we can assume that they'll be everywhere, waiting for us, and that it'll be dark down there, and they are banking on having the advantage due to us having to adjust to the change in light.
As a response to this we do our best to darken the surrounding area by shutting doors and curtains wherever possible, even trying to do whatever trick we know so that we can be aclimitised to the dark as quickly as possible, when we enter down the passage.
While it's still lighter up here than in the passage, it's at least darker than before, and it's worth a try in seeing whether we'd be able to see the passage using mirrors and night vision goggles, and seeing where exactly the enemy are, if there are any in this section, in which I know from the maps that there are 3 of these sections in this passage.
Just as I suspected there are several guards who are crouched and are aiming their weapons at the entrance, waiting to open fire at us as soon as they can see us enter. While spraying and praying on the enemy will alert them down there, we do not have suppression weapons with us, and they perhaps won't make as much difference, unless we use crossbows in which they won't be as practical in combat. Besides which I would prefer for the enemy to know we're coming, as it could innerve them and pressure them into making mistakes by hindering their progress, or releasing their creation when it needs more time to be perfected.
I quietly give the order to spray and pray, and this happens without any of our troops dying, in fact interestingly enough, there is no response from the enemy, no rushing, no firing in our direction, even after using the mirrors again there aren't any, though we can't be certain that it is the case for the rest of this section closest to the entrance here, as the section is of significant size, and from here at the top of the stairs, we can only see what's effectively at the bottom.
All we can do is to just slowly and quietly go down the stairs, using our mirrors at the appropriate places as a means to scan for the enemies up ahead, as while it'll take a long time, we need to keep our troops alive if we are able to fight our way through this secret passage and to the basement. Besides which, I'm certain that considering the situation, there'll be loads of enemy troops both soldier and monster alike in here, and if we can take them out as we go, it'll be less enemy soldiers to keep us at bay, meaning they'll either have less time to prepare their surprise that they hope will turn back the tide in their favour, or perhaps less enemy soldiers that will fight with their surprise.
Just as I expected, it isn't too long before we see enemy soldiers lying prone, in which it's an immense relief that we have spotted them, for if we haven't, even if we were able to react to it, significant numbers of our forces would have been mowed down, which would have bought them a lot more time, perhaps too much time to ensure that their plan will work when their emperor monster failed.
We make the most of this situation, and I quietly order the Britannians to throw a few flash bangs, before waiting to see if they fire while blinded in hopes of keeping us at bay before recovering, only for them not to, perhaps due to them being blinded and hearing a deafening noise preventing them from being able to think logically, and as a result we take them out cautiously, without rushing in as we know that there are enemies further along, no doubt around the corner to the next section, in which dealing with the enemy there will be a nightmare due to them having cover, which we currently do not have.
Knowing that between us and the corner there's no one left, we can only advance until we reach the corner, knowing that the enemy with the advantage of cover can just poke out or try and spray and pray at us, and as a result of this concern, I've quietly given the order for some of us to head to the corner while crouched, while the rest of us are to keep their guns aimed at the corner, with the intention of opening fire should an enemy or more pop out in an attempt to try and engage us.
Once again I'm pleased that my strategy of using caution and tactics are paying off, as while the enemy tries to spray and pray at us, just as the enemy gun is seen poking around the corner, before they can open fire, the gun gets shot off, and those that were heading towards the corner, aim their weapons at the corner, expecting the enemy to try again, only they don't interestingly enough, though something tells me that they have a different tactic in mind that they wish to use against us.
We can only cautiously head on, as we have to reach the basement to stop whatever they're planning, and to stop Neptune or at least be able to be a significant step closer towards stopping her. While I sense it'll be more challenging as we get closer and closer to the basement, at least we have effectively cleared out one of the 3 sections that make up this secret passage.
As we moved closer and closer to the corner, I and no doubt others as well are getting increasingly concerned about the enemy trying to ambush us, be it with spraying and praying, a rush of monsters or worse them releasing what's effectively their means to turn the tide in their favour once more, and yet it doesn't happen, though even with this, we cannot afford to let our guard down. If anything I get the sense that they'll try and strike against us when we reach the corner. They must know that we're smart and tactical, and highly trained, and they must be trying to stress us out with tension and stress, and attack us when they believe us to be at our weakest as a result. We can only remain calm and methodical as we carry on doing our best, in getting to our objective, and clearing whatever obstacle is thrown at us.
Eventually, we get to the corner, while making sure we're at a fair distance away and are positioned such that we can easily take out any enemy that appears from there, along with ensuring that we have the appropriate weapons equipped to deal with the enemy in this specific terrain.
Despite all these preparations, it's quite unnerving knowing that the enemy is around the corner waiting for us, and yet we have to fight our way through and do the best we can to ensure we can survive the battle. All we can do is to spray and pray at the enemy with a few of our troops, and try and see how they react to it and go from there.
I quietly give the order for a few Britannians to position themselves such that they can spray and pray at the enemy at various parts, before retreating away before the enemy has a chance to react, in hopes of provoking them to attacking us, in which we can get them since we'll have the advantage of seeing them first.
Just as I hoped for, after this happens, the enemy does indeed respond, and they respond with monsters of a significant number charging towards us, though there are also soldiers behind them, no doubt waiting to strike us down.
With the distance between us and them, and the difference in numbers between us, it does concern me as to whether we can defeat them, but all we can do for now is to just remain calm and make every bullet we fire at them count, as we mow them down one by one, trying not to be unnerved at them getting so close to us they could strike us down, along with the knowledge that as soon as the enemy soldiers get a clear shot, they'll try and open fire on us. Instead we try to be more optimistic in that we are diminishing the strength of their forces, and no doubt it's significant here, as hopefully this is 1 section's worth of enemies that are currently engaging us here, in which they are losing their troops at a significant pace.
Although it feels like a while, with thoughts of concern about the amount of bullets we have left running through our minds, since while we can get more, it will take time which we do not have, even with the dead enemy guards, due to the numbers of them that can be accessed currently, we have managed to defeat this wave. The unfortunate thing though, is it's not without taking several losses, and I can only hope that it doesn't stop us from winning ultimately. The situation is not ideal with there still being 2 sections to go through, and who knows how many monsters and soldiers remaining, not to mention the time remaining in which we cannot be certain, though I get the sense that it's not much.
We cannot do anything else though but to carry on and continue doing our best, as we attempt to gain information with regards what's ahead of us in the next section, in which we use mirrors to allow us to observe what's around the corner.
The thing is, while there aren't any more enemies in the next section as such, probably due to the fact that they know we'll just defeat them by spraying and praying like before, I can see in the distance an enemy soldier peeking around the corner looking for us, along with plenty of weapons that are pointed around in an attempt to spray and pray should they become alerted to our presence.
This concerns me, due to this being their best tactic yet, regarding fighting in the secret passage, since they can just use a few soldiers and fire their guns to keep us at bay, and it'll take a while to get them, and more of them will come to help. This will definitely buy them the time they need, and I've no doubt that they'll be using this tactic for the entire time we're in the passage.
It'll be ideal if we can effectively outgun them there, because then we can put pressure on them and at least take the second section, but the trouble is that the secret passage leads to a large area and we'll be in a choke point, almost completely surrounded if we were to go in, in which we need to. We can only hope to be able to secure the third section and from where we are, to secure it part by part, though somehow I get the sense that whatever monstrosities they have, will be ready before we can attempt to enter the large area. All I can hope for is that we can panic them into making it ready before it's been perfected yet, as well as hope that considering the powerful monsters they have unleashed before, and knowing the games they come from which they associate with due to the console they support, it'll be one I'll be familiar with, and therefore one in which I know the weaknesses, and can therefore exploit them.
Despite all these thoughts running through my mind, I know I can only deal with what's in front of me right now, and that is these enemy soldiers around the corner who are waiting for us. We need to be the ones pinning them down not the other around, and we therefore need to ensure we have guns pointed at their corner, but they can't do the same to us.
The concerning thing is though, I get the sense that this will be easier said than done, considering the fact that despite there being one soldier looking at our corner, as a result of the formation they have, there are other torches shining at the corner to help, practically covering it.
Ideally we need to take out all the enemy guns as well as the user at once, but how to do so? Hmmmm. It is then I realise that while the torches may shine on all of the corner, there's only one pair of eyes looking, and they can only look at one section of the corner at a time. We can therefore try spraying and praying at the enemy guns at the same time, and the worst that can happen is we just lose a few weapons from enemy bullets, and it's better than using smoke in which even then, the enemy bullets could keep us at bay considering I wouldn't be surprised if they still have enough to buy the time they need, then there's the fact that those that do the spraying and praying, can focus on one weapon before doing their best to deal with the others, along with the fact that we have a mirror that we can use to help spot the guns that remain.
Furthermore once that's done, a few Britannians could hug the wall furthest away, and shoot the guns that way, and we can advance slowly but surely pushing them away. They could prove resistant but I can see this tactic succeeding, and if they were to resist, we'd just be getting rid of their weapons for them, and sooner or later they have to retreat or try and fight with other weapons, which will hinder their chances of killing us significantly.
I then quietly explain the plan to my fellow Britannians here, before giving the order quietly to enact it, and order one of our troops to request for more ammunition, while the rest of us wait with baited breath as to how this strategy will fare, considering what's at stake.
As a result of all the guns we were able to use at that corner, along with a person using a mirror helping us, we've managed to shoot the enemy guns and killed the enemy soldier, but the thing is, we've only managed to get one person to that wall, and the team that were spraying and praying at the enemy, have to reload their weapons and retreat away, because the enemy have replaced those guns with new ones effectively, and are spraying and praying of their own at our corner.
What makes this worse is that there appears to be more this time, and even if they're wasting bullets, it matters not for they are just trying to buy time for their bosses in the basement. I need to quickly think of the right course of action, as I can't see how the sole Britannian can take out those guns with one clip, and yet the Britannians at the corner cannot assist right now due to all the gun fire.
It is then that I realise something, that not only are the guns that are firing are at different places at that corner, but there are times when they are pulled back to reload. We just need to sit back for a short while as they do this, and determine what's the smallest amount of guns they have firing at the corner at one time.
The thing is, they manage to do so quickly, and even when they pull their guns back to reload there's still a significant number of them firing. What makes this worse is that it's only a matter of time before they peek out and notice the Britannian in the passage, or to spray and pray in his direction. I can only think of one response to this, and that is for the lone Britannian to shoot down as many guns as possible, as well as for the Britannians at the corner to then shoot the remaining guns by spraying and praying, while trying to avoid enemy fire, after which there are to be as many Britannians as possible to join the lone allied soldier, in hopes of being able to deal with the enemies at the corner we're after more effectively.
I quietly explain the plan to the group, in which the lone Britannian is to attack the guns in a certain order, and then those at the corner will attack the rest in a certain order as well, hoping that the bullets will reach their targets, and after that the lone Britannian is to give a signal, for as many Britannians as possible to reach the wall where he's at, in the hope that while the enemy will be able to reinforce their position with guns once again, our troops can deal with them if they become a problem.
I quietly give the signal to commence my strategy, and we can only wait and listen to see if this tactic of mine pays off, as we watch our soldiers in action, and listen to the gunfire being exchanged, only to be immensely relieved to see the signal that Britannian troops can safely cross. While it is only a few that make it, I'm happy that it is the case, since I doubt that the enemy will be able to aim more guns around the corner than last time, and this time it should be easier to neutralise them and for more of our own guys to cross.
In fact just as I expected, after quietly giving the order to do the same tactic as soon as all the Britannians have reloaded their weapons, more Britannians are able to get to the wall, and even those at the corner are able to look around it and not spray and pray, because now we have them pinned down. At last we can now use this to our advantage and to advance towards the corner, and like last time try and clear them out, even though something tells me it'll be a real challenge due to the section from there going straight to the basement, and there's no doubt that there's all sorts of defences in there.
I then quietly give the order for us all to advance carefully, while ensuring we can pin the enemy at the corner down, only to then find that the enemy actually try to poke their heads out to try and see if they can spot us considering we have shot several of their guns at this point.
While they get shot quickly, they eventually manage to report to their comrades around the corner, that we have Britannians by the wall, and they'll have to spray and pray there if they are to have any chance of securing their corner.
Although they know of our troops here, it makes no difference, since although we're moving our forces, it is such that we are always having troops with their eyes at the corner and their guns pointed there too. They're effectively at a choke point now, and I wouldn't be surprised if they either send out monsters to charge at us, or retreat or lose their lives in trying to engage us, either way it seems that the second section has been cleared and there's only one left, which I imagine to be the hardest of all the sections.
The enemy soldiers tries to engage us from around the corner, but as we expected they get dealt with immediately afterwards, and it's not long at all before they stop trying, and for the most part there's silence. It is then I wonder if they're relying on us being cautious as a means to buy them time, because it does indeed concern us as to what's around the corner, whether it's another ambush, or there's lots of soldiers there, or even if there's something else, something bad if not worse? In fact it makes me wonder if they've got other powerful monsters beside bosses, or if one of Neptune's personal buddies is there, in which they have who knows what sort of abilities that could prove to be a significant challenge to us?
We can only wait and see, and deal with what comes our way as we cautiously head for the corner, not wanting to be ambushed in case they decide to wait and try again in hopes of catching us off guard.
Because of the tension and us having to advance slowly, so as to make as little noise as possible and to keep an eye out for a possible attack, it does feel like a long while, which I'm concerned plays in to their hands.
Eventually though, after what feels like far too long, we have reached the corner, and are positioned such that we have the best chance of dealing with whatever monsters they have, or whatever guns they wish to use for their attempts at spraying and praying at us once more.
Now, we can actually find out what is in the final section of the passage, as well as what is in some of the basement, in which we can at least attempt to plan a strategy to deal with them. Whatever it is though, I have no doubt it'll be the hardest challenge yet that we have faced in this secret passage.
Upon finding out by the use of mirrors, we learn of what is front of us, and my goodness it'll be a significant challenge: there's lots of guards in that passage with their guns pointed towards the corner we are at.
It's worse than the previous time we had to deal with guards waiting for us, since although this time they have no cover, they'll be able to see us coming significantly better, and there's more of them.
How can we eliminate them all, without losing at least too many Britannians, since we need all of the troops we can get if we are to deal with what's inside the basement? Spraying and praying won't work, even if we were to attack simultaneously with multiple weapons as they'll just get shot off, and those weapons will no longer be of any use to us, which we desperately need.
I can't be sure that using flash bangs would work either, considering the amount of them there are to defeat in a really short space of time, and they'll probably fire blindly in our direction, preventing us from going in to wipe them out. Plus which there's the concern that they could shoot the flash bang reducing the affect of them, or worse affecting us instead where we'd be at their mercy.
I thought at first therefore, that it would be best to use a smoke grenade, and to try and attack them by having a soldier lifted up high and attacking at a high place in the passage where they wouldn't expect it, but then I realise that there's too many of them, and that eventually they'll notice and respond by then covering that part too, and we'll be back to square one effectively.
But then if I can't use any of those tactics what one can I use to deal with them… wait a minute, hold on, I actually have a tactic, and it's who says I have to only use one of those methods, why not a combination of them?
I can have a smoke grenade thrown first concealing our movements completely, then have a flash bang thrown in at a repeated interval, to ensure that the enemy stays blind and deaf, and thus hopefully only able to think that we are going to spray and pray from the middle, or from the bottom but not from the top, and therefore our soldier can continue to wipe them all out, while they struggle to work out due to the tactical grenades thrown at them, where exactly the one that's shooting at them is. After a while of this the smoke grenade can be pulled back, and with mirrors we can see who's left and hopefully all of them will be wiped out, after several clips of bullets have been fired, or at least we can repeat the process, or at worst, we'll have got enough of them that we could try engaging them more conventionally, and it shouldn't prove to be too much trouble.
With this idea in mind, I quietly explain my plan to the Britannians with us, in hopes that they understand and agree with it, in which they approve of it, and we then sort out who's going to do what with regards our plan, before it can be enacted.
The thing is though, despite doing my best not to think about it, and just focus on the task at hand and remain optimistic, I can't help but think about how even the best planned plans can go awry, and that I am concerned that this can easily go wrong due to what we're dealing with, since the enemy can still get the Britannian that's shooting at them, considering how tall this passage is, and that being not much taller than an adult. But I cannot think of a better alternative that will result in the loss of many of our lives, considering the number of them, where they are, where they're facing, and the lack of means to flank them.
I can only hope that it doesn't, and rely on the superior skills of our troops to succeed, as the smoke grenade is activated, put in the appropriate place, a Britannian soldier that volunteered is lifted up so that he can shoot the enemy from relatively high up, and a flash bang is thrown at them, while others are held by soldiers ready to throw at the appropriate moment.
All that can be done right now, is to just watch and be ready to act appropriately when the situation calls for it, as we see flash bang after flash bang thrown in at the appropriate interval, as well as see bullets fired at the corner, but not hitting any of us, and seeing our Britannian fire his gun, at the enemies on the other side, before needing to reload and then firing again.
Eventually, and in amazement considering the risks at the obstacle that stood before us, the Britannian up there stopped firing his weapon, and gave a signal to indicate that he's wiped the entire enemy group out. It's hard to believe that none of the enemy thought to fire from above, but like I was banking on, none of them thought to fire at the top of the corner, because their senses were constantly being deprived from the flashbang, and their ailments prevented them from thinking clearly. The thing is though, while it is nice to have eliminated them without suffering a single casualty, we have spent several flash bangs to do this, and I cannot guarantee that the next fire fight will go just as smoothly, especially considering what's at stake and will most likely be involved. Then there's the fact that the soldier I sent to get more ammunition has yet to arrive.
Speaking of the next fire fight, at least there is one thing that we can be certain of, is that unless the enemy intends to charge at us, and reinforce their fallen comrades, there is nothing standing between us and the basement, in which there will be something sinister guarded by troops and monsters, as well as Neptune herself or at least hopefully there'll be some information as to her whereabouts. If we can take this basement, we'll be a significant step closer to liberating this place, considering all the troops and monsters that we've defeated from there.
We need to compose ourselves for what is to come, considering what's at stake and what we've been through, so I quietly order for mirrors to be used to see what's ahead only to see that there's nothing in the section the enemy soldiers were at, and that in the distance are what appears to be machine gun emplacements, manned by enemy soldiers. It's unfortunate that from here we can only see a small part of the basement, as I have no doubt that they still have sufficient strength in there, including significant numbers of soldiers and monsters, as well as whatever it is that they're planning to use against us.
They also have the advantage of terrain, with the entrance effectively being a choke point, in which we would be surrounded on almost all sides if we're to go in, and yet we have to go in, if we are to succeed in stopping whatever it is they're planning, and capturing our nemesis if she's there, and if not at least hopefully gathering intelligence concerning her whereabouts.
All we can do right now, is to negate the advantages that they have. We need to keep an eye on those emplacements, prevent the enemy from using them to mow us down, and try and see if we can draw the enemy to where we can see them and bleed their numbers, to the point that there's less of them to deal with us, if we are to stand a chance in getting significantly closer in stopping Neptune, and stopping their chances of turning the tide.
It'll definitely be tricky with all the enemies in there, and the cover those emplacements provide, and if those weapons are used, it'll be difficult if not impossible to eliminate the enemy soldiers using them, without suffering from significant casualties, which we can ill afford at this crucial stage.
One thing is for certain though, we have no time to lose, and thanks to the fact that it's much darker where we are than where the emplacements are, the Britannians can properly peek out to see the enemies operating the emplacements, but only as long as they're not using them, and with this in mind I quietly order my fellow troops to get into position, and to take out the enemy gunners, while keeping an eye out for enemies to replace the dead gunners, as well as for any other soldiers to come out, while the rest of us try and reinforce our position with the intention of advancing slowly at the ideal moment.
I quietly give the order to commence the attack on the enemies manning the machine gun emplacements, and just as I predicted, while those gunners get mowed down, enemy soldiers appear on each side of the door in an attempt to fire in response, only for them to get mowed down.
The thing is, I think I can make out in the distance a syringe in which they're used to inject something into them and they're revived again, which is quite concerning for us here, considering what will happen to this place if we fall.
We fire back at them in response before they can try and kill us but while they die again, it takes more bullets than usual to kill them, which concerns me due to how much ammo we have left. This is even more concerning for those of us here, especially since if we die here, it's the end of our waking world and this. It makes me wonder if this is Compa's doing considering my memories of her as a nurse even if she's incompetent. In fact I can hear her yell one of her lines she says in battle which is "time for your shot."
While there is the hope that they may not have too many syringes, and even if they're plentiful, it's perhaps not the best thing for them to have to help them turn the tide overall in their favour, considering the numbers we can bring in, the equipment we can bring in, and us having the better tactics, I get the sense that they've got more than this. Their plan B can't be just syringes that revive and give extra health. How would that help them considering their tendency to charge in? It wouldn't help the monsters if their strength lies in charging in waves.
There's got to be something more, this is effectively a taunt, they want us to enter and they're enticing us with Compa with her appearing to be unthreatening, a relatively poor trick up their sleeve, and the prospect of capturing Neptune via her.
We won't fall for it though, as while we will come in because we need to if we are to achieve our ultimate goal here, it'll be on our terms as we continue to fight the enemy, and manage to kill enemy after enemy even after being revived and even after having extra health, and not letting the concern of running out of ammunition get to us, as we have requested for more ammo and I've sent a request for more reinforcements in response to what's up ahead, and in the mean time we will make the most of what we have, and if necessary we'll just take cover, in hopes of denying them the opportunity to go after the other Britannians.
Eventually Compa herself decides to show up in her usual attire, with a pistol, in which she is soon dispatched, only for her body to be dragged away, presumably to revive it like with the enemy soldiers. She then returns revived, only not only does she take more damage than before, but more than the enemies who were injected with the stuff.
Something isn't right here, we're just shooting at her, and have even managed to shoot her pistol off of her hand, and yet she's standing there, as opposed to hiding. What sense does it make to effectively be a bullet cushion, even she must know it's a moronic thing to do? Or is it that she wishes to stand there for a specific purpose, in which could it be that they need to be wounded or dead in order for those syringes to work, in which the trouble is if we don't shoot at them, we can't kill them to prevent them from killing us?
It isn't long before she does something, in which she tries to get a syringe out, either to inject us or herself, in which we shoot that causing it to explode in her hands and the contents covers a fair amount of her body.
While I can't be certain what it does, my gut tells me that it's better than her injecting whatever that was in the syringe in her or any of us, even if it could still affect that incompetent medic Compa in some way.
Unfortunately though, it does affect her, and it appears to be something bad as she transforms into a monster, in which she wears the same clothes only her skull is elongated, and her brains seems to stick out and is large now, and she has long arms and fingers and she can now levitate.
I knew it would be something like that with regards how challenging the foe would be, that they hope would change the tide. I've no doubt it'll be really tough and it will be able to throw all sorts at us, in fact she could probably just float around us and take us out one by one, given our ammunition is getting lower and lower every time we fire our weapons, and I don't think we have the strength needed to take her out.
At least as I hoped I do recognise the creature she's effectively become, it's the same as Jasper Guns from House of the Dead Overkill, and it's weakness is the head which I inform my allies here of this.
I was preparing myself mentally to shoot for the head in hopes of harming it enough to the point where it's dead, and not be worried about it being revived, but then instead of it trying to engage us, Compa then calls out for someone to assist her, in which my gut tells me it's another monster, in which I can hear loud thuds and the ground shaking a fair bit, suggesting it's large. Soon afterwards the thuds and shaking stops and the monstrous medic floats away, in which I can only assume the worst in that the presumably large monster has managed to destroy the ceiling of the basement, and Compa has now gone out of site to gather as many projectiles as she can carry, and has gone through the hole to engage the Britannians in the estate before coming for us from our flank, or to come for us first via above ground.
I quickly get on the radio to inform all the Britannians fighting here of the situation, despite being concerned that they may not be able to hear due to us being underground.
"Attention all Britannians, Compa, a close friend of Neptune's has turned into a monster and is in the estate. The monster has long arms and fingers, along with a large brain and has the ability to float. It's very dangerous, aim for the head, prevent her from using syringes and do your best to take it out, call for reinforcements to deal with it if you can.
We've also discovered in the basement a large monster, presumed to be powerful though appearance and weakness is unknown. I need reinforcements at the kitchen as I suspect that Compa wishes to go around there and flank us. I know the situation is tense, but I urge all of you to continue remaining calm and doing your best to carry on as well as to defeat Compa if you can.
If you can hear this message, please respond." I announce as calmly as I can, despite the stress of the situation, and the concerns that I have regarding it.
After hearing confirmations in which I'm amazed, though that may be due to the passage being made of building materials as opposed to rocks etc, this being a nightmare, or maybe even the signal being able to travel to the basement and up through the new hole, I then quietly order the Britannians with me to split up with some to go outside to keep Compa at bay, and for others to retreat by the corner, and wait for the enemy to come to us, using a mirror to keep an eye on the situation.
Unfortunately despite doing what I can, I find myself breathing heavily due to thoughts running through my mind, as to is what we have and what we're going to do with what we have, enough for this situation? The enemy has unleashed two monsters against us at the same time, and there's no certainty as to can they be dealt with, not when there isn't the vehicular support due to the location, not when Compa has lots of syringes she can use against us or to help her continue the fight, along with the issue that our ammunition may be too low to defeat her. We need to prevent those syringes from being used, but how when there's seemingly loads of them, and still plenty of enemy soldiers who can use them?
All there is right now, is that taking out Compa first should help us significantly, since I believe her to be the most dangerous right now, and she has effectively isolated herself from her troops and monster friend, but I'm sure it won't be easy for the troops, considering along with her ability to levitate in the air, her ability to throw syringes which could do who knows what damage, her ability to throw massive objects, she has a significant amount of health, in which I'm not sure how long it will take to kill her with the ammunition we have assuming we can still use it, as a result of not being killed by her.
Well, we've all done what we can, and we can only wait and see as to what happens next, and to do our best against whatever specifically is thrown at us, whether it's the enemy troops, that large monster, or Compa herself. The situation may be bleak but we will never surrender, and our goal is simple: victory, victory at all costs.
