Today's winter morning started nice and cozy with the furnace heating the living room nice and warm near the window. The streets outside Dog's apartment were completely covered in snow. The cheery canine with a winter yellow fleece sweater held a nice, warm cup of joe, taking a sneak peek at his neighbors. He took a small sip of his steaming mug as he observed two young elephants rolling a tiny snowball.

The medium-sized ball of snow resulted in the top head of a snowman. At the same time, their mother watched from above on the second floor and lightly knocked on the window, her face transforming to sternness. Nevertheless, her kids paid no heed to her warning, and Dog watched their interaction unfold from the comfort of his own home with an anticipating smile.

The children would soon get their just deserts when their lumbering mom squeezed through the front door, which meant trouble. Both elephants panicked and cried in fear as they got tugged by their long ears and dragged back into their home. Finally, she forcefully slammed the door shut behind her which dropped some snow from the roof in the process. After the wooden door banged shut with large piles of snow falling from the sheer amount of force, Dog snickered a bit at their amusing predicament.

But, the frozen snowman still lingered on with a blank slate, staying perfectly still as he took one more sip from his toasty mug. Later on, Dog went to finish the snowman for the kids and approached his filled-up refrigerator to grab a leftover carrot. Next, he opened a wooden cabinet full of little trinkets to grab a few spare buttons for the eyes. After he finished changing into the appropriate attire, he made it outside his apartment.

First, he placed two buttons for the eyes and then the carrot to represent the nose. Unfortunately for him, the end result was nothing like how he desired with the buttons being off-center and the carrot nose barely hanging on. With a worried look, he pondered for a bit, but then his frown raised to a wide beam as he chose to make a few adjustments.

To make his snowy figure new and improved, he transferred his winter hat and scarf onto the new snowman before finally drawing it a smile. The final result fared much better with now a jolly old snowman. Only a few moments after he smiled at his deed, suddenly…

WHAP!

A fast-moving snowball slammed directly onto Dog's face, and he fell backward, landing on the snow-covered sidewalk. He immediately shook his head side-to-side like a dog with the jingle of his collar to wriggle the snow off his eyes. Once his vision cleared up, he saw that Robot stood on the other side of the road, tossing an additional snowball in the air. His metal friend was also wearing only a little scarf, and he waved a quick greeting to the perplexed doggie.

As an act of revenge, Dog stared him down dead in the eye and scooped a small chunk of snow from the middle snowball of the inanimate snowman. His eyes narrowed as he pulled his arm back and swung the little snowball hard in the air. While the curveball flew rapidly towards Robot, he extended his stretchy legs and slid his body to the right, narrowly avoiding the snowball.

Dog then grumbled a bit as his pal taunted him with a robotic chuckle. The canine's smile then molded a smug grin while he dug up some more snow from his snowman and aimed it at Robot. He threw it again, and this time it soared faster, landing directly on Robot's chest. Dog pointed at Robot with his eyes closed and was in hysterics, but before he knew it, a loud WHOOSH! ripped through the air, and an icy mush filled his mouth with instant numbness in his cheeks.

Dog spat out whatever was inside and stuck out his tongue in disgust. He shook his fist in the air and growled a little "Grr.." back at Robot. But, he soon got distracted when a small gust of wind tickled the fur on his snout. Everyone froze, and Dog shrugged it off at first. Then, a stronger breeze began to fill the air, and the yellow hat flew off the snowman which meant serious business.

Without warning, a large mist of snow in the distance traveled closer, and before they knew it, an incoming blizzard roared through the streets with both Robot and Dog barely hanging on with their feet. From there, the winds only grew stronger, and Dog nervously held onto a street pole to keep himself from being blown clean off. While he hung on with strenuous force, he detected Robot's feet slowly sliding away from the neighborhood.

Without thinking, he ran straight for Robot, but his metal feet began levitating off the ground. Before his metal friend could drift away, he managed to grab onto one hand while the rest of Robot was now flying in the air. Dog gritted his teeth and strained his arm with fear as the whistling winds only grew louder with millions of snowy particles blowing directly all over Dog's face.

Robot stared at Dog with alarm as he turned his head to the dark cloudy skies and then back at his friend. Not long after, he could feel their grip start to loosen with each finger slowly pulling away. As a last-ditch effort, Robot tightened his fist as hard as he could just like he did back in Central Park. Dog's eyes widened and screamed in pain, but if it meant saving Robot from his severance then it wouldn't matter in the long run.

Unfortunately, their efforts would be in vain, for the blizzard still grew stronger like it was deliberately breaking the bond between both friends. After a few more excruciating seconds, Dog couldn't bear the throbbing pain much longer, and they inevitably let go of each other. Robot whirred his flailing arms as he vanished out of sight within the vast clouds of snow. Meanwhile, Dog fell to his knees with his erratic eyes spooked by the abrupt departure of his robot friend as the warbled sounds of the blizzard slowly faded away.

Dog's eyes popped wide open and woke up with a loud gasp as he briefly hyperventilated with quick, short breaths. The alarm clock read 4:43. Once he was able to settle down, he shuddered a little as he pulled his long pillow closer to his head. Would he and Robot be able to stick out for each other forever?
