Harry Potter: Portable Ops
Prologue- Escape
Harry woke up with a pounding headache and he was very pissed off.
He had been investigating a mixed group of wizards, witches and muggles which had seized control of a small peninsula on a large unidentified island on behalf of an NGO. He had been taken by surprise and while he defeated a couple of his attackers, he found himself captured and thrown into a prison.
Harry took the time to rest as he contemplated an escape plan. There were a few guards nearby and a few prisoners were being held in nearby cells but he could only see the one directly across from him.
Just as he was about to talk to the prisoner opposite him, a few more, heavily armed, soldiers appeared along with someone who had dark skin, was bald and appeared somewhat Moody-esque, albeit with a bandana on his head. This last person appeared to be one of the people in charge of the group that had taken control.
"Rise and...oh you're already awake. Well, shall we get to business?" asked the man, somewhat being sarcastic and rhetorical at the same time.
Harry couldn't help but be sarcastic in his response, "Sure, let's start. I'll even make you all cups of coffee." This earned him a punch to the stomach which winded him.
"You should know better than that Mr Potter. Never try sarcasm while you're the prisoner." The Dark, bald man said in response bitingly.
"Who are you anyway?" Harry asked, now feeling more angry but also curious. His stomach ached and his muscles stung.
The man gave a response. "My name is Lieutenant Commander Coningham, Mr Potter. I never thought I'd be talking to an actual living legend. Still, we got things we need to know. Tell me, what do you know about the Heist and Massacre at Coronaverg? And What do you know about the Trellingborg Legacy?"
"I don't know what you're talking about. Never heard of either of them at all." Harry said annoyed and confused by the questions. This seemed to be the wrong thing to say because he received another punch to the stomach and was sent sprawling to the ground.
"We know you know something about them. My boss has a source who informed him and myself about that fact."
"Who?" Harry asked angrily.
"Stop acting. You know who the source is. You know what happened with both of them." Lieutenant Commander Coningham replied, his voice carrying a tone that mixed anger, frustration and amusement. He then relaxed himself somewhat saying to Harry, "Your act is tough to crack, Mr Potter. Very well, I'll be back tomorrow to interrogate you more, and I will not be as nice as was today. Just so you know, I was trained in the art of interrogation by the CIA and then found an notorious ex-auror who showed me some more... persuasive... and painful techniques."
As he left the prison, he instructed the soldiers who arrived with him to stay there in case of any escape attempts from Harry. As it so happened, Coningham was correct in his assumption but didn't anticipate Harry's strategy or tactics. He also didn't anticipate that the other prisoners would help in the escape or that they themselves would be broken out.
"Hey... you okay?" asked the prisoner opposite Harry.
"Yeah. Who are you and how did you end up here?" Harry asked, curious about the prisoner opposite him and the others in the same block.
"Name is Roy Campbell. I was part of Green Beret battlegroup tasked with taking back deserters from the US. Once we tracked them here, we were ambushed by numerous enemies including the deserters. As far as I am aware, I'm the only survivor. Not sure about the others here, though. I do know how you can escape your cell though." The Green Beret known as Roy Campbell said.
"How? I can't exactly get through the cell door." Harry replied in frustration.
"Under your bed, there's a vent with a cover over it. When you remove it, climb through and turn left. Go forward until you find another left hand turn. Crawl out of the vent and you'll find an open cell door. That's how you escape." Roy explained.
"And you know that how?" Harry asked.
"Because before you were put in there, that was my cell . I had managed to loosen the cover and made sure I could remove the cover. Before I could try to escape, they moved me. Been in this cell about two weeks now."
"Well I will escape from here. I'll try and get help then I will return for you and the others"
"If you're trying to get help, then there is a communication base about two or three kilometres away from here. I passed through there after I was captured."
"Thanks. I will be back."
Harry went through the vent and emerged in the other cell. He saw on a bed that all his equipment and his wand were lying on it.
"Wow these guards are probably a bit too relaxed." Harry commented to himself. He gathered it all and proceeded to escape the prison. He encountered 3 guards outside the prison block and knocked them out. It appeared that there were more prisoners that needed to be freed as there were other small buildings in the compound that resembled prison cells. He would free them too. As he worked his way towards the main building, two of the soldiers who had arrived with Coningham were making their way to where they believed he still was.
Stealthily walking behind them, he knocked the pair out. Realising that the soldiers could become useful allies, he dragged all the soldiers around the cell block to a storage hut. He stole some ammunition and rations from the storage hut before placing a number of Sleeping gas mines in front of the doors and other potential escape routes from the hut.
Once inside the main building, he knocked out several more guards and placed them in a locker room, placing plenty of sleeping gas mines at the doors. Harry also stole various documents that may have been important but he wasn't totally sure.
Venturing beyond the main building, Harry carefully avoided more guards only knocking out those that threatened him. He placed those knocked out soldiers in the back of a truck. Then once he was sure he was all clear, Harry made his way to the commination base.
After an trek that was excruciating, Harry entered the base perimeter and examined what he could see. He saw an office building, several storage buildings, a few garages that were filled with broken down tanks, mostly of German, American or Russian origin. Spotting a satellite dish on top of a bland building, Harry knew at that moment it was the communications building.
Picking off the few guards around the area, he made his way inside and found a long range radio. He entered the frequency into the radio set to contact his private army and get help.
"Is anyone there? This is Harry Potter here. I require urgent assistance." Harry said quickly.
After a moment of hearing nothing but static, Harry got a response.
"Hey mate, how are you doing. You're late checking in, what happened?" said a familiar voice.
"Hey Ron, I do have an explanation for that which is... I may have gotten captured."
"Well, at least you're out now." Ron replied.
"So do you think I can get some assistance here. And where is Miller and Ocelot?"
Ron said nothing for a moment which got Harry, rightfully, very worried.
"We may not be able to help you for a few weeks yet. Several of the Outer Heaven warlords have launched major attacks against us and Outer Heaven itself has launched a few raids against our outposts. We're sorry, boss."
"Don't worry about it mate. I've already got an idea in mind. Just send help when you can. I'll catch up with you soon." Harry said, then he turned off the radio.
Dragging and loading the knocked out guards at the communications base into a truck, he made his way back to the prison.
Having found the keys to the prison cells, he made his way back to the small building where his former cell was located.
He unlocked the door and let Roy out of his cell before doing the same for the other prisoners.
"It really is true, you're Harry Potter. Although I have to ask why you simply use your wand to unlock the doors." Roy said as his cell door opened.
"Because A) I wasn't thinking and B) I've grown accustomed to using more manual methods."
Harry opened up the remaining cell doors in that building. The prisoners that emerged were a varied bunch but all somehow complemented each other. One man was dressed in the uniform of the prison guards and looked as tough as nails. The next prisoner appeared to be a civilian but when he removed a cyanide capsule from his mouth, he was revealed to be an intelligence operative. The third prisoner that emerged was a female soldier from what seemed to be another area in the peninsula. She later explained that she had been back stabbed by another female soldier and after her imprisonment, had been assaulted by two of the guards escorting her to the prison who were only stopped by another guard who felt disgusted by their actions. The final prisoner that emerged appeared to be a scientist of some kind.
"You're all safe now. Now I want to know all your names." Harry declared loudly.
The first freed prisoner spoke first, "My name is Ivan. I was, as you're thinking, a prison guard here until I disagreed with my superiors about the direction of the takeover. Later on afterwards, I was arrested for insubordination." He had a Russian accent.
"I'm Kurt. I worked with the CIA until some of the deserters kidnapped me and faked my death. I've been stuck here since this all started." The intelligence operative said, his accent very obviously American and sounded like he came from the north east part of the US.
The female soldier spoke next. She sounded like she came from somewhere in Eastern Europe, Harry thinking it was most likely she was from Western Ukraine or South Eastern Poland. "My name is Natalia. I won't tell you how I got here yet but I will tell you that I was in charge of security at a vehicle workshop close to the close. I can also tell you the vehicles I was in charge of guarding when I was there."
The final prisoner spoke up afterwards. "My name is John. I was brought here in order to teach the rookie doctors and nurses in the insurrection's ranks. They led me to believe that this peninsula was their nation. Once I found out the truth, they locked me up here. They also had me doing research on improving medical supplies and rations. I had made some headway before my imprisonment." Harry noted that John had a Welsh accent.
Harry cleared his throat before speaking loudly. "Now that I know your names, I will tell you mine. My name is Harry Potter..." Their eyes widened in surprise as they looked at him, "... and I am a wizard. I'm also the person who is going to get you out of here and let you strike back at the ones who have wronged you. Now what I want you to do is free the other prisoners in the other buildings around us. Once you've done that, make your way to the trucks at the entrance and bring the freed prisoners with you. I've marked the way for you."
Roy spoke up, his expression reflecting the confusion over what Harry's plan was. "What exactly will you be doing while we do that?"
"Just making sure our escape goes unnoticed for now." Harry just replied cryptically. He then dragged a bag in from outside and opened the zip to reveal a selection of automatic rifles and pistols. "Pick what you want, if you meet any enemy soldiers then you'll need them. Just try not to kill them if possible." Harry then returned to the main building to confront the remaining guards.
"Something tells me he's been in a situation like this before." Kurt said.
"I think you're correct on that." replied Roy. "Why do you think he said to try and not kill them?" He then asked.
"I'm guessing we're building an army. Harry Potter is in charge of a mercenary army and nation after all. He partly relies on captured soldiers to keep money coming in and ensure that all units have adequate manpower." Natalia said, relaying what she knew about Harry and his WSF.
"How did you figure that out?" Kurt asked.
"Ever since all these reality mergers happened, there have been several legends amongst soldiers, even non- combat soldiers. Harry was already a hero before the reality merger but after it, he became one such legend. His tale is told to every soldier regardless of where they are from." Natalia explained, with Roy and Ivan nodding their heads.
Once the explanation was over, the small group proceeded to release the other prisoners. Then they made their way to the trucks at the entrance, following the route Harry had marked.
Harry stealthily took down the remaining guards in methodical fashion. He took down one pair of guards by grabbing one and throwing him into his comrade before punching them unconscious. The soldiers who arrived with Coningham and had not been knocked out by Harry earlier suddenly found themselves in clouds of sleeping gas. Once the last guard was downed, Harry took out his wand and put body bind spells on them all and levitated them in front of him, taking them all to the trucks, recovering the knocked out guards from when he escaped en route.
"Told you he's going to build an army" Natalia said.
"Harry what are we going to do with these soldiers. They're not on our side." Kurt asked.
"They will soon be on our side. We just need to persuade them." Roy said, realising Harry's plan and the extent of it."
"You're right. I think we need to find a base for us and some more soldiers." Harry said to the trio.
"What would you want to be our base?" Kurt asked, wanting to help in anyway possible.
"I think we need an air field, a dock and possibly some bunkers." Harry said, thinking it through. "Also is there a town nearby?"
