Chapter six- Hospital Visitation
Harry had left the base with only a small squad of soldiers, including Johnathan and a single truck with him. They had found out about a hospital that had reportedly had specialized preventative drugs delivered there. After a drive that avoided many patrols, they reached the outer grounds of the hospital, a tall brick wall surrounding the main hospital building and neighbouring huts.
"Well here we are. Now we need to search the hospital here for those supplies." Harry said to Johnathan and the rest of his men.
"Not much of a sight, is it?" Johnathan asked rhetorically.
"You can say that again." One of Harry's men said dryly.
"It doesn't matter what it looks like. If it serves the purpose, it could've been a bunker for all I care." Harry interrupted.
Harry gestured for Johnathan and his men to hide whilst he scouted the hospital complex. When they did so, Harry began exploring the paths to the main hospital building.
Almost immediately, he saw some of the guards and began taking mental notes of their positions and patrol routes. He also explored various routes to get to the main building quickly and stealthily. A small courtyard was in the middle of some of the huts and the main hospital building and in addition to a guard or two, there was a pair of trucks lying stationary within the courtyard. Harry reckoned that without the trucks positioned where they were, the courtyard would've been a slaughter to get across. He discovered a small alleyway behind one of the huts and found it could be used to get to the main Hospital building with one of the huts providing cover but discovered that the main entrance could be seen by the courtyard guards. Harry also saw that there was a guard within the hut as the guard came out briefly to have a cigarette. He assumed that even though he couldn't see them, he sensed that there were many doctors, nurses and chemists in the huts and main hospital building.
Feeling satisfied that his reconnaissance was completed, he returned to the truck where his men were hiding. As he made his way back, he saw that a few soldiers were inside the main hospital building as he looked up at the high up windows.
Johnathan and the men came out of their hiding spots and stood to attention.
"Right... I've just had a look around and there are not many guards as such. However, I have sensed that there are many doctors, nurses and chemists in the buildings and if we panic even one of them, we could be facing a fight where we are at a disadvantage." Harry explained.
"So what's the plan then, Boss... Harry?" Johnathan asked.
"Half the squad will remain here to make sure that our way out of here is kept open. Everyone else is to follow me to the hospital building and the neighboring huts. Knock out the guards and then we should try and get as many of the doctors, nurses and chemists as we can. While you secure the enemy soldiers and the medical staff, I will search for the preventative drugs we need. Understood?"
"Yes Boss!" The men replied simultaneously.
Harry nodded and they got to work. Half of the men volunteered to be part of the look out team, removing the need to select who stayed with the truck. Harry, Johnathan and the other half of the squad made their way to the hospital and the huts.
A pair of guards were chatting about their commander and Harry. The first guard asked "Who do you think would win in a fight between Gene and Harry Potter?"
"I think that is a good question... I think that by the thinnest of margins, Harry Potter would win." The second soldier replied.
"How come?"
"He defeated a dark lord when he was a baby and has defeated that old Orc Emperor... what was his name again?"
"Samgon." The first guard supplied.
"Yeah, him. He defeated Samgon on many occasions and he officially killed him by firing artillery at Samgon's headquarters at Samgon's last battle."
"You don't think Samgon's dead then?"
"No. Anyway, we're getting off topic. How about you? Who do you think would win in a fight between Gene and Harry Potter?"
"Gene. Harry would give him a tough time but Gene will wipe the floor with him."
The two soldiers suddenly felt pricks in their necks and saw tranquilliser darts in each others necks before they collapsed. Harry, Johnathan and most of the half squad moved past the fallen guards. A single man stayed behind to watch over them, making sure that they couldn't cause trouble if they woke up.
They reached the courtyard and Johnathan and a pair of soldiers took cover underneath the trucks stationed there while Harry and the remaining soldiers made their way to the alleyway behind the hut that Harry found earlier. Harry stealthily took down the guard who was patrolling the hut. He was almost discovered in doing so but Johnathan and the pair of soldiers with him knocked out the guards quickly and quietly.
Johnathan noticed a small crate that contained a number of sleeping gas grenades. "Psst, Harry. Need some Sleeping gas grenades?" He asked in a loud whisper.
"Probably." Harry replied just loud enough to hear from where Johnathan was. Johnathan threw some of the sleeping gas grenades to Harry and the other soldiers with him. Harry and the soldiers with him quietly went through the front door of the main hospital building, in an effort to find the preventative drugs.
Suddenly having a thought of inspiration, Johnathan instructed the soldiers with him to open the doors of the huts slightly and throw the sleeping gas grenades through the gaps in the doors. Each of them threw at least three sleeping gas grenades through the doors, if not more, and waited for the effects to take hold. The sounds of metal tables and medical equipment falling to the floor indicated that the idea worked. After waiting for a few moments for the gas to clear, Johnathan decided to commandeer the trucks in the courtyard and he and the soldiers began loading the guards and medical staff into the trucks although they couldn't be made comfortable as they were crammed in.
Harry and the men with him were quietly creeping up the stairs to find the supplies, having been unable to locate them downstairs. Harry sensed that two guards were near the top of the stairs and threw a sleeping gas grenade in their general direction. A trio of thuds were heard a moment later and Harry became confused. 'Why three drops when I could only sense two of them?' he asked himself mentally. One of the soldiers with him kept an eye on the fallen pair of soldiers while he and the other soldier proceeded to check each room very thoroughly.
Aside from a number of patients, doctors and nurses as well as the odd guard, there was no sign of the drugs they were looking for. Harry instructed the soldiers with him to get as many of the soldiers and medical staff down to the trucks as quickly as possible and proceeded to go to a metallic door. Harry then understood why he heard three drops rather than two when he entered. The door and walls of the room were all covered in a magic suppressing metal which dulled his magical senses and he saw a knocked out guard collapsed on the floor and someone who was clearly the senior doctor who was on duty at the time.
"Well since I don't have anything to worry about at the moment, let's see where these drugs are." Harry said to himself.
He looked through everything cabinet near the walls and saw no sign of the information he and his resistance army sought. It just contained information on the current patients and the medical staff on duty who were now being 'recruited'. Harry then tried opening the drawers the senior doctor's desk contained.
"Hmmm, they're locked. I wonder if there's a key around here?" Harry asked himself. He proceeded to search the senior doctor's coat and trousers for the key, knowing that he would most likely have the key on his person. After a few moments of searching, Harry found the key and he unlocked the drawers. "Bingo!" He said to himself. He brought out all the documents that the drawers contained. He had to shoot a couple of darts at both the senior doctor and the guard a few minutes later to prevent their waking up whilst he looked at the documents. After a while, he found the information he needed to find.
"Oh Merlin, they've all been taken to a base in the mountains. Still better take these documents with me... these two as well thinking about it." Harry said to himself then he pulled out his wand and summoned a pair of boxes. He levitated the documents into the boxes and sealed the boxes shut. He shrunk the boxes and put them in his pockets. He levitated the guard and senior doctor in front of him and made his way out of building.
When he reached the trucks, he saw that the guards and medical staff were piled on top of one another and others still outside the trucks. He frowned at the sight, "Why are they piled up in there like that?"
"That would be because there is not much space in the trucks, boss." one of the men explained.
"Okay. From now on, we will not pile them on top of one another. I know that I should have done this a long time ago but I will be expanding the back ends of all our cargo and passenger vehicles. I mean trucks like these, half track Armoured Personnel carriers, all of those kinds of vehicles." Harry stated, frustrated with his men and himself. He then cast a series of spells on the trucks, especially the space in the rear of them. Very soon, all the knocked out guards and medical staff were more comfortably positioned in the back of the trucks. Harry's men were amazed at the sight of Harry using his magic, regardless of the circumstances, as many had not seen a wizard in action before. Harry then put his wand away.
"Think any of us could do magic, Boss?" One of his men asked in wonder.
"You either can or you can't. It's not just a case of me teaching any of you. That said, some of you could be descended from wizards or witches so you may be able to sense magic, even if you cannot use it." Harry explained.
"Were you able to find the preventative drugs then, Bo... Harry?" Johnathan asked.
"Unfortunately, no. I do, however, have a lead on where it's gone. We need to get back to base and regroup."
"Shouldn't we take the medical and food supplies as well?" A soldier asked inquisitively.
Harry got his wand out again and said clearly, "Accio medical supplies!" and all the medical supplies came rushing out, usually with the boxes they were stored in. He then said clearly, " Accio food supplies" and tons of food in crates, boxes and sacks shot towards Harry and the soldiers, who all thought that they were going to have to duck out of the way until it all gently landed on the ground. "Get it all in there quickly!" Harry ordered and the men promptly did as they were told.
As Harry was about to enter a truck, he sensed a pair of powerful presences over a thousand feet above him. He could see a helicopter heading south towards a mountainous area. He took note of the helicopter and the presences before turning to Johnathan and his men. (*)
Harry, Johnathan and the men got in the trucks hastily and made a quick getaway. It was just in time as fresh guards as well as a squad of Coningham's men arrived a few minutes later.
In the early hours of the evening, Harry and his men made it back to the base with a haul of new 'recruits'. Roy, Kurt and Natalia were awaiting them. Roy looked dreadful, sweating profusely and his body shook and spasmed. Natalia and Kurt looked at Roy in concern.
"I see the drugs weren't there then." Roy said knowingly.
"No, they weren't. We do have a lead though." Harry said optimistically. He withdrew the two shrunken boxes from his pockets and restored then to their original size. He then pulled out the documents which said where the drugs had gone and passed them to Roy and Kurt.
"All the preventative drugs we need have been taken to a base in the mountains. Just a shame we don't know exactly where." Roy lamented.
"I have a hunch and go with me on this. Kurt, send teams into the mountains south-west of our base. Tell them to trail all convoys and helicopters heading into the mountains." Harry ordered.
"Any reason why there in particular?" Kurt asked.
"I saw a helicopter heading out in that direction. I thought it would be worth checking out." Harry explained to Kurt.
"If you think it's worth checking out, then that's enough for me." Kurt replied. Kurt then sent a number of spy teams where Harry said to send them.
Harry, meanwhile, began placing extension charms to the rear spaces of all the trucks and Half track Armoured Personnel carriers that his resistance army had in their possession.
Earlier, above the hospital (*)
As Harry observed the helicopter, two of the helicopter's occupants sensed the magical presence below. A man with fair hair and wearing a military uniform with a brown overcoat appearing to be in his thirty's or forties and a young woman in her late teens to mid-twenties who had blonde-red hair and was wearing a black coat and white top and trousers were sitting next to each other. In front of them in another seat, Coningham sat looking into the distance.
"Commander..." the woman started to warn the fair haired man.
"Yes, I know Ursula. He's down there, Mr Potter." the fair haired man said knowingly.
"I've got some of my men on their way to the hospital now. Gene, we have them." Coningham said confidently. "I have also dispatched fresh guards there as well."
"We do not have them, Coningham. The fresh guards and your men will be too late to prevent their escape." Gene rebutted.
"What do we do then?" Coningham asked.
"We do nothing ourselves for now. Just send reinforcements to our key facilities and try and stall the rebels." Gene replied simply.
"They may have a base on the north coast of the peninsula but we still have key advantages over them. Most importantly, we have allies who are providing us with intelligence and resources." Ursula pointed out.
"What happens when they start interfering with the weapon and our invasion plans?" Coningham asked, frustrated with Gene's plans.
"We will then lay a trap for them." Gene replied, a smile planted on his face. He felt confident in his plans and every move he made.
A short while later, they landed at a helipad at the mountain base. The base was a dull grey with no colour on the exterior of the buildings, which were made of concrete. All around, construction was taking place and guards were patrolling constantly. A large cargo lift near the construction work brought up supplies, raw materials, men and equipment every half an hour.
As they exited the helicopter, they were greeted by a group of uniformed men, who either had guns, blades or wands.
