Roll was approaching her dorm when her friends called out and caught her.
"Roll, you gotta tell us, is your brother gonna help us?" asked Pipp.
The girl just avoided making any eye contact with her friends.
"Roll, answer us, damnit!" shouted Zipp as she had enough of the girl dodging their questions.
Roll again didn't say as Zipp grabbed her forcefully.
"Look at me!"
"Zipp, let her go!" shouted Sunny as she and Hitch grabbed Zipp's arms to get her hands off Roll.
"She ain't saying shit!" yelled the heiress.
"Roll, just tell us. Please… we're not asking for much. Just tell us… is Mario going to come?" asked Sunny.
Roll just sighed with a sad look before entering her dorm and locking it. The others all had looks as Zipp was irate as it was clear they were screwed. Not to mention, they had no idea what a Wargames match was.
"What's Wargames?" asked Roxy.
The girl and her friends were all gathered in a room. They all leaned or sat in different parts of the room as Sombra stood with Flurry. The principal flicked his wrist as he made a device appear. He then pushed the button to cast a holographic projection that showed a dueling field with two sets of levels. There were platforms in between on the upper level as the field had an aisleway connected to it that led to two penalty boxes a few meters apart.
"Wargames… is a deadly game, to say the least. In some ways, it's barbaric in terms of dueling. If you enter this type of duel, you won't be the same when you leave." said Sombra to his team as they stared at the hologram.
"So, how does this team event work?" asked Phin.
"Wargames starts with two teams comprised of a certain number of duelists. In this case, it's seven on seven. However, both teams select one individual to start the event. Since it comprises two levels, you can choose where to duel your opponent."
"Okay, and what the two who start out do?" asked Axiom.
"As I said, two team members will start the duel. Each team will have a Life Point counter of 16,000. Now… here's the important thing. The duel will not officially start until every participant joins the field."
"Wha?" said the Crystal Prep team, confused by what their principal said.
"Now… the two duelists that start off will face each other for five minutes. After five minutes, the team with the advantage will send one of their members into the match to join. This will continue until everyone has entered."
"So if the duel doesn't start until every one of us, including them, enters. What the hell do we do till then? Just stick our thumb up our asses." said JD.
"That's where the Life Point counter comes in. The Life Point counter can still drop even as the participants enter. When wargames officially begin, it then changes into a regular duel. So whoever runs out of Life Points first loses. So, as you can see, the objective is to see if you can dwindle your opponents' Life Point counter to zero so that you have the advantage when the duel officially starts." said Sombra.
"I see. So it's a game of coordination, strategy, high pressure, quick thinking, and, most importantly, teamwork."
"Correct, Ms. Phin. Wargames are not to be taken lightly, especially for the two competitors who will start the duel because they will have to run the gauntlet," stated the principal of CHS.
"We've got our work cut out for this, guys. We need to start planning," stated Flurry as her friends grimaced.
They weren't trained or prepared for this unique environment. And like Sunny and her gang, it would be unknown territory for the two teams.
The following day, things were being put into motion. The entire CHS grounds were transformed to prepare for the Wargames exhibition duel. All morning, both groups of teens went over the rules of the match and talked amongst each other about how they would structure and play the duel according to their decks and playstyles. Sunny and the gang tried so hard to get Roll to talk about whether Mario was a part of their team, but she ignored it.
Nightfall soon fell on the CHS campus grounds. Both teams were inside the school, in separate locker rooms, going over their final moments of strategy and planning.
"Alright, guys. You know what to do, right?" said Flurry as she addressed her group.
The girl's team nodded as Sombra was shown entering. The seven teens looked at their leader as he stood with his arms behind his back.
"It's time!" stated Sombra as he began to lead his group to the field.
Roll was shown sitting down in a chair with her phone in her hands. The girl had just sent a text and looked at her screen when the door to the locker room opened, and in came Sunny and the others.
"Hey, you ready?" asked Sunny.
"Yeah, I'm ready," Roll responded as they were moments away from what was about to happen.
"Uh, not to say anything, but something is worrying me jjjjjjjjjjjjjjust a little bit," said Izzy as she touched her fingers against each other. "And I don't want to raise alarms, but… Mario is still not here, so…." trailed off the girl.
"I knew this would happen!" shouted Zipp as she let her disdain and anger out. "Why would he even be here, huh? Why would he even bother, he doesn't give a shit!"
"Zipp, just… calm down, please," said Sunny, trying to get her friend to settle down.
"Look, whether he shows up or not, we go to war together. Tonight, we have to look out for each other's backs."
"Hitch is right. We need to stay strong. In that duel, we need to look out for one another. That's the important thing." said Sunny.
"Roll, you still haven't told us anything," Pipp told her friend.
"I… I…" confessed the girl, unsure how to tell her friends.
"Are you all ready?" said Celestia as she entered the room, and the teens looked at their principal.
"Come on, y'all. We're on now," said Hitch as he began to leave.
The others all gave grimaced looks as they began to follow the boy. They headed out with Celestia one by one, Roll and Sunny being the last two.
"Roll…" said the girl.
"Just… trust me, okay?" responded the girl.
"Let's go to war, you two!" shouted Zipp.
Sunny sighed as she looked to leave before turning her head to gaze at Roll.
"We're trusting you, Roll," Sunny said as she left. The girl took a moment to bite her lip before also exiting.
The roar of the crowd from both schools was heard. The two sides of the massive field changed to fit this team exhibition event in full force. In the center was a giant massive field with two levels for which the duelists could occupy and duel. On the upper level, there were platforms in between that the participants could use to move about above the ground floor. The aisleway that connected the arena was shown near the top, where the two penalty boxes would house the two teams until the duel official started.
Luna stood at the center of the field, holding a microphone to address the sea of students.
"Ladies and gentlemen. We welcome you to the exhibition event. Now, then, let me explain the rules of this match. Two teams will be contained in separate holds, with one team member starting the duel. After five minutes, a member from the advantaged team, in this case, Crystal Prep Academy, will be released to enter the duel. After a three-minute period, alternating members from each team will enter the match. Once half the field has acclimated six duelists, the time intervals will change to two minutes, and each new duelist that enters will automatically take their turn. Once everyone has entered, Wargames official begins. The only way to win is to dwindle your opponent's Life Points to zero. However, during the course of the duel, the objective is to get it down to as little as possible. And now… let the Wargames begin!"
Some music was heard as the doors near the penalty boxes opened, and a marching band of Crystal Prep students came out. A couple of flag twirlers and baton wielders began to march out as Flurry Heart, her crew, and Sombra were behind them. The principal brought his team in for a quick huddle and whispered something to them before stepping off to the side to go to where he would be spectating the event. Leaving Flurry and the others alone, the group turned to look at Flurry. The girl put a fist in as the others did before breaking apart.
"Go, Shadowbolts!" said Flurry.
"Ay!" said the girl's friends.
Flurry nodded as she raised a fist to Athena. The girl bumped hers against her captain, and soon, the others did the same, as it was clear who among them would be starting off.
"You got this, War Goddess," said Flurry as she and the others slowly entered the penalty box, which was shut behind them and locked until they were ready.
The Crystal Prep girl nodded as she turned and began to walk toward the field. The girl knew why she was picked, as their plan was to pick the one with the most stamina to start the match and go the distance. Athena reached the end of the aisleway before taking a deep breath and looking about the field. She contemplated climbing the ladder to the second floor but chose to go against it, instead remaining on the bottom floor. The teen then turned to look at the aisleway as she awaited for her opponents.
Like Crystal Prep, the doors opened as a marching parade emerged. Sunny and the others appeared, with Celestia by their side. The teens took in the atmosphere and the sounds of their classmates cheering them on.
"Good luck to you all," said Celestia as she left to join Sombra and her sister, where they would be watching in a booth.
The group watched their principal leave before turning to look at Flurry, just a few meters away, with her group in the penalty box. The girl just sat in a chair with her legs crossed as she casually looked at her cousin and friends. The smirk on her face got to most of the CHS group as they wanted to wipe it off her face. Their penalty box then opened as they slowly began to step inside individually. Sunny was left looking at Roll as the girl put her hand out. Roll accepted it before she pulled her friend in for a quick hug and released.
"We're trusting you," said Sunny as she entered the box with the others.
Roll nodded before looking down the aisle as Athena waited for her on the field. The girl took a deep breath as she refocused her mind.
"Let's go!" shouted Roll as she began to walk down the ramp, looking to be the one to start the duel for her team.
The girl began slowly approaching the field as Athena had her target and strapped on her duel disk. Her device came online and projected an orange card tray. Roll looked at the strange environment before strapping on her duel disk and projecting a blue card tray. She stepped onto the dueling field on the lower level and looked at Athena, the two girls circling each other as if sizing up the other like rivals. They stood their ground with Athena's back to the isleway as both continued their staredown. In their respective boxes, both teams had a screen they were watching with a live feed and an actual duel field to see their teammates.
Celestia stood up from her seat in the booth and looked at the two. She signaled for both to start, and the entire dueling field changed. Now, a metal cage appeared to encase both duelists inside, with no way out. Only a caged door behind Athena appeared as it was the only way to enter when each person was called.
"Ready!" declared Athena.
"Ready!" responded Roll.
"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel. Operation: Wargames!" said their devices as they adjusted the programming for this specific event.
Team CHS' Life Points: 16,000-
Team CPA's Life Points: 16000-
Both girls drew their opening hands as their portraits appeared. They began to flash back and forth before it stopped on Athena's to indicate she would get the first draw. With that, a timer appeared as it had five minutes on the clock and would countdown when the girl would draw her first card.
Turn 1: Athena (Hand 5)
"I get the first move. So here goes!" said Athena as the clock ticked down.
4:59.
"I summon Battlin' Boxer Headgeared(1000/1800)!" stated Athena as a boxer wearing red gear appeared. "And when I normal summon my Headgeared, I can send a 'Battlin Boxer' monster from my deck to my graveyard. Next, I'm activating the spell card Battlin' Boxer Spirits. So I send the top card of my deck to my graveyard and then I can special summon a 'Battlin' Boxer' from my graveyard in faceup defense mode. So I'm bringing back my Battlin' Boxer Glassjaw(2000/0)!"
"Two Level 4 monsters, you know what that means, guys," said Zipp to her friends as they watched the screen.
"I overlay my two monsters to build the Overlay Network!" stated Athena. Her two monsters turned into orbs of light that hovered in the air, and a portal opened before her. The orbs were sucked into the portal as a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon! Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke(2200/2000, OLU: 2)!" A giant boxer whose hands were trapped in stockades and chains appeared as it stood behind the girl.
"With that, I end my turn with a facedown!" stated Athena.
"Well, Cap. What do you think? Can Athena handle your cousin?" asked JD as they watched the duel unfold.
"We're about to see," commented the girl.
3:30
Turn 2: Roll (Hand 5)
"My move!" said Roll as she drew her card and looked at the timer.
3:21
The girl could see time was ticking down and that in less than 3 and a half minutes, Athena would get back up. So she had to do as much as possible to the girl before that happened.
"I summon Needle Sunfish(1500/100)!" A fish appeared as its mouth opened wide, and needles were shown inside it. "Next, I play the spell card, Aqua Mirage, and equip it onto my monster. Thanks to this, when I Xyz summon, my spell also counts as an Xyz material." stated the girl as a water mirage of her monster appeared next to her actual one. "Now… I overlay my Needle Sunfish to build the Overlay Network!" The monster and its mirage clone turned into orbs of light that hovered in the air for a moment. A portal began to open in front of Roll as the orbs entered, and a pillar of light emerged.
"Now I can summon a monster that's both feared on the land and in the water. I Xyz Summon, Submersible Carrier Aero Shark(1900/1000, OLU: 2)!" A pair of sharks attached to a flying device appeared as they growled. "I now activate Aero Shark's ability. By using one overlay unit, I can deal you 400 points of damage for every card in my hand. And I'm holding four, so you're getting blasted with 1600 points of damage! Go Torpedo Takedown!" The monster fired a shell with several missiles in as they broke apart. They bombarded the area around Athena; the girl put her arm up to cover herself as the explosions occurred.
Team CPA's Life Points: 14,400-
"Nice! Roll scored the first amount of damage!" said Zipp as their friend managed to fire the first shot.
"What's she doing?!" complained Roxy at how they already lost points and the first person hadn't entered the match yet.
"Oh, one more thing: since I sent my Needle Sunfish to the graveyard as an Xyz material, your Lead Yoke loses 500 attack points." stated the girl as her monster appeared and opened its mouth to fire all the needles inside. The sharp, pointy things embedded into Lead Yoke as its power was drained.
"Why not deal more damage while we're at it? Aero Shark, go 'em!" commanded the girl as her monster swam forward. They sunk their jaws into the boxer's skin.
Team CPA's Life Points: 14,200-
"I activate my Lead Yoke's special ability! By removing one overlay unit, it can avoid being destroyed in battle. Furthermore, it gains 800 attack points!" declared Athena as her monster broke one of its stockades to free its left arm and punched the twin sharks to send them back to Roll's side.
"I'll throw two cards facedown and end my turn. You're up!" stated Roll.
2:45
Turn 3: Athena (Hand 3)
"It's my move; I draw!" said Athena as she refocused on returning her team to the needed lead. She took a moment to look at the clock as she had less than two and a half minutes before she would get back up and turn this into a two-on-one handicap. The girl then shifted to prepare for that.
"By removing an overlay unit from Lead Yoke, I can summon my Battlin' Boxer Shadow(1800/1400). And by removing an overlay unit, Lead Yoke gains 800 attack points!" stated Athena as her monster broke its other stockade hold and freed its arm, now having a strength of 3300. "Now, Lead Yoke, attack her Submersible Carrier Aero Shark!"
"Don't think I'm such easy prey!" responded Roll. "I reveal my facedown, Tidal Advantage! This trap lets me cut your monster's attack points in half during this battle, and my Water monster can't be destroyed!" stated Roll.
"You little…" muttered Athena as her monster reeled its fist back to throw it out as Roll's twin sharks bit down on the fist, causing an explosion.
Team CPA's Life Points: 13,950-
"Don't get too cocky, little sea maiden!" remarked Athena. "I'm not the War Goddess for nothing. I reveal my facedown, Xyz Reborn! Now I can bring back my Lead Yoke, and this trap turns into an overlay unit that my monster can use!" A portal opened as Lead Yoke rose from it, free of its chain, and Athena's trap changed into an orb of light circling her monster.
0:10
"Ten seconds," said Phin.
"Are you ready, Roxy?" asked Flurry, sitting cross-legged in her chair. She looked at her teammate, who was about to head out.
"I got this," said the girl as she got in a running stance, ready to book it when the timer reached zero.
5… 4… 3…
"I end my turn!" said Athena with a smile.
2… 1…
Turn 4: Roll (Hand 2)
"Alright then. Let's-"
A siren was heard as Roll turned her head toward the sound. Crystal Prep's penalty box lit up as the door opened before Roxanne booked it at high speed. The girl rushed down the aisleway to the field to give her friend the needed backup. She quickly arrived at the steps and entered through the cage door to strap on her duel disk, projecting a citrine color card tray. The girl was next to her friend and drew her opening hand as both Crystal Prep students smiled, looking at Roll.
3:00
Roll looked at the timer as she accessed the situation. The girl now had to build momentum, as swiftly, for the next few minutes, it would be just herself until she got back up.
"Now Roll has three minutes to survive before one of us can help her," said Sunny.
"The good news is that she'll take a turn between Roxanne's and Athena's to compensate for that, but she's in a handicap situation now," remarked Hitch as the girl's friends could only watch on.
2:48
"My move! Here goes!" said Roll, returning her attention to the duel. "To start, I'll use Aero Shark's ability; by using one overlay unit, you both take 400 points of damage for each card in my hand. And I hold three!" said the girl as her monster loaded another torpedo and fired. It split into several missiles that bombarded Roxanne and Athena as they covered up.
Team CPA's Life Points: 12,750-
"That's another huge mass of damage!" said Zipp.
"I then play the spell card, Xyz Treasure. Now I can draw cards for each Xyz monster on the field!" stated Roll as she picked up the top two cards of her deck. "I then summon my Shocktopus(1600/800) in defense mode! I end my turn."
Turn 5: Roxanne (Hand 5)
1:59
"It's my move!" said the girl as she drew. "I play Gem-Knight Fusion! Now I can perform a Fusion summon! I fuse Gem-Knight Garnet and Gem-Knight Lazuli in my hand." The two swirled around each other in red and blue light. "I combine the powers of fire and rock and spark the spirit of a fiery new fighter! I Fusion Summon! Ready for battle, Gem-Knight Citrine(2200/1950)!" A plume of fire heralded the arrival of the girl's monster, armored in citrine-colored armor and cape, holding a fire sword over its shoulder as its fists were also made of fire.
"Now, Gem-Knight Citrine, attack Aero Shark! Oh, by the way, Citrine's effect kicks in during battle; you can't activate any cards or effects until the end of the battle!" smirked Roxanne as Roll had no way to avoid destroying her monster.
Team CHS' Life Points: 15,700-
"Well, my trap wasn't for protecting my monster. It was for bringing it back. I reveal my facedown, Ghost Salvage!" said Roll. "This trap brings back my Water-attribute Xyz monster, and when it returns, it can bring along the monsters that were used to summon it by negating their special abilities! So here comes Needle Sunfish and Aero Shark!" A portal opened before Roll as anchors were cast down into it. They began to pull up the girl's monster as they appeared on the field from their watery graves.
"Awesome! Now Roll has three monsters defending her Life Points!" said Zipp.
"She's doing well. She's covering all her bases, keeping track of her stamina, and even staying one step ahead of Roxanne and Athena," Sunny said.
"But she's still outnumbered," responded Pipp.
"Not for much longer," said Izzy as they looked to see the time on the countdown timer.
1:01
One minute.
Roll knew she only needed to survive one minute before having a backup, so she looked to fortify her defenses even more.
"Since Gem-Knight Lazuli was sent to the graveyard by a card effect, she lets me return Gem-Knight Garnet to my hand. But that's not all; I'll banish Lazuli to add my Gem-Knight Fusion back to my hand. I set one card facedown and end my turn."
Turn 6: Roll (Hand 3)
Got less than a minute. Just gotta survive.
"My move, I draw! I play the spell card Falling Current, so now I change the level of a monster on my field. So, I change Shocktopus from Level 4 to 3. Then, I'll overlay Shocktopus and Needle Sunfish. With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network!" declared Roll, her monsters turning into orbs of light and hovering in the air. A portal opened before her as the orbs were sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon! A champion of darkness and devastation! Black Ray Lancer(2100/600, OLU: 2)!" Her monster appeared and twirled its lance above its head before spreading its wings and pointing its weapon at the girls.
"Next up, I'm equipping my Black Ray Lancer with Sharkify! Not only does it raise its attack points by 300, but my Lancer now becomes a 'Shark' monster!" stated Roll as her monster got stronger and wielded a shark lance. "And then I activate Black Shark Lancer's ability. Using one overlay, I can negate the special abilities of any monster I choose this turn. And I choose Lead Yoke! Paralyzing Lance!" Black Shark Lancer's wing fins glowed and shot out two columns of wind that blew over the girls' side of the field. Athena's monster was left with a static paralysis as it couldn't move.
"Black Shark Lancer, eliminate her monster! Shimmering Spear Slash!"
Black Shark Lancer charged up his weapon before zooming toward Athena's monster, which glowed and destroyed its foe in one swipe.
Team CPA's Life Points: 12,550-
"Yeah!" said Sunny and the others as they cheered for Roll taking down that powerful monster.
"I'll place a facedown and call it!" smiled the girl.
0:10
"Ten seconds, guys!" said Hitch as the timer was about to end.
"One of us is gonna go," said Izzy.
"I am!" said Pipp.
"Sis?" said Zipp, looking at her sibling.
5… 4… 3… 2.. 1…
Their penalty box lit up as the buzzer went off.
"I got this!" said Pipp as the door to their box slowly opened, and she bolted out.
"Go get 'em, sis!" shouted Zipp as it closed behind her sister's escape.
"And Ms. Pipp Petals will be the backup for Ms. Roll!" said Luna over the PA system to the audience.
Turn 7: Athena (Hand 3)
The girl was about to take her turn when she saw Pipp coming down.
"Roxy, we got company!" said Athena to her friend as she turned to see Pipp climbing the stairs and passing through the caged door.
'I'll handle her!" said Roxanne as she looked to cut off Pipp.
Pipp stopped as she met the Crystal Prep girl who rocked her world the last time they went one-on-one. Athena and Roll were still engaged in the duel, as it was the Crystal Prep teen's turn, while Roxanne battled Roll's ally.
"Look who decided to finally grow a set!" mocked Roxanne as Pipp glared at her. "What? My beating wasn't enough? You want to come back for more? You don't belong here, little songbird. You're not a true duelist like us!"
Pipp glared as she pulled out her duel disk and strapped it on. The girl then removed her diadem and tossed it aside to show how serious she was since she never took it off. The pop star then lunged at Roxanne as the pair began to tussle on the field in a catfight brawl.
3:00
2:59
Meanwhile, Athena was taking her turn.
"I draw! I summon Battlin' Boxer Switchitter(1500/1400)!" stated Athena as her monster appeared before a mirage-like clone appeared next to it. "And thanks to Switchitter's effect, he counts as two monsters when I Xyz Summon. So I overlay my Battlin' Boxer Switchitter to build the Overlay Network!" The monster and its duplicate turned into a single orb of light and hovered in the air. A portal opened, and the orb was sucked in before a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon! Number 79: Battlin' Boxer Nova Kaiser(2300/1600, OLU: 1)!" A fighter emerged; it wore colorful armor with red and yellow outlines as the number glowed on its body. It then clapped its knuckles together as it landed on the field with a thud and unfurled its outerwear.
"I now activate my Battlin' Boxer Nova Kaiser's special ability. Once per turn, I can attach a 'Battlin Boxer' from my hand or graveyard to my Nova Kaiser. So I'll attach my Battlin' Boxer Headgeared to my Nova Kaiser!" An orb appeared as it began to circle around Athena's monster. "And Nova Kaiser gets a power-up as well. Because every Xyz material it has attached to it gains 100 extra attack points. So it's got 2500 attack points, which is more than enough to take out your Black Shark Lancer!" stated the girl as she pointed at Roll.
"Nova Kaiser, attack Black Shark Lancer!"
"I reveal my facedown. Escape Lure! Now, I can change the target to a different monster. And I choose my Aero Shark!" Roll's monster then swam to intercept the attack as it made contact with Nova Kaiser's fist, destroying it but keeping the girl's Life Points safe.
"You can't keep dodging forever, little sea maiden. Especially when we're about to have backup!" snickered Athena as she ended her turn with a facedown.
Roll looked toward Pipp as she was still engaged in her brawl with Roxanne.
"Pipp! Pipp!" called out Roll as she got her friend's attention. The pop star was on her back with her hands on Roxanne, trying to hold her back, who still wanted to fight with the stylish.
"Pipp! Now's not the time to fight. You gotta make your move. We only have a minute and a half left before they get back up!" stated Roll, telling her friend to quell her anger on Roxanne and focus on taking her turn as they needed to survive once Athena and Roxanne got their next member very soon.
The stylist looked at Roxy as she managed to get her feet under her and kicked her off. Roxanne stumbled as Athena grabbed her friend by her shoulder.
"Roxy, focus! We're about to get help soon. We need to survive!" stated Athena to refocus her friend's mind, knowing she wanted to get her hands on Pipp just as bad.
1:25
"Hurry up, Pipp! Make your move!" shouted Roll.
Turn 8: Pipp (Hand 5)
"My move!" said the girl, looking to do something with what little time she had left. "Here's a card that should look familiar to you, Roxanne!"
"Polymerization?!" exclaimed the girl as she saw what card Pipp was holding.
"Correct. Time for me to showcase my fusion powers. I play Polymerization to fuse together my Sonata the Melodious Diva, and Soprano the Melodious Songstress! Okay, girls, sing out in perfect harmony on my cue! Give me the best Fusion melody you can muster!" stated Pipp as her two monsters entered a swirling vortex, emitting purple and orange lights. "I Fusion Summon Schuberta the Melodious Maestra(2400/2000)!" Out came a woman dressed in black with rims of orange at the bottom and a white musical note in the center of the dress. She had blond hair and wielded a baton after making her fairy wings appear.
"I activate Schuberta's special ability. I can banish up to 3 cards in the graveyard during either player's turn. And Schuberta gains 200 extra attack points for each one I banish. So I'll banish Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke, Battlin' Boxer Glassjaw, and Roll's Aqua Mirage spell card!" declared Pipp as the three cards appeared before they vanished, raising Schuberta's attack to 3000.
"Schuberta, take it to that Gem-Knight Citrine. Go, Sonic Surrender!" shouted Pipp, as this was personal to her. Her monster waved her baton about, creating a sonic soundwave around her before bursting it out toward its foe. It collided with Gem-Knight Citrine, destroying it and causing Roxanne to be taken off her feet and hit the ground.
Team CPA's Life Points: 11,750-
"Hey, Roxy. This little songbird just dropped you on your ass!" remarked Pipp as it felt good to knock the girl down.
"Please…" growled the Crystal Prep girl as she reached her feet. "One lucky hit and you think you're hot shit, little Ms. Popstar. You don't know the first thing about dueling! Watch! I reveal my facedown, Brilliant Spark. This trap activates when you destroy a 'Gem-Knight' monster. Now you take damage equal to its attack points!" The hologram of the card flipped up, and the image of Gem-Knight Citrine hovered in front of it. It soon turned red as an energy beam headed toward Pipp, who couldn't cover it up and fell to her back.
Team CHS' Life Points: 13,500-
"And not only that, Schuberta's effect wears off. So who's on their ass now, little songbird?!" taunted Roxy as Pipp could only glare at her rival. "Ah, what's the matter? Cat got your tongue!"
Pipp just ignored Roxy's comments as she willed herself to stand up.
5… 4… 3…
"Shirai, you're going in!" said Flurry.
"Copy that, Cap!" responded the girl.
"I place one card facedown and end my turn."
The buzzer sounded as Crystal Prep's penalty box lit up. The door opened, and Shirai ran down the aisle toward the field.
"And the Genius of the Sky will be next for Crystal Prep Academy!" said Luna over the microphone.
Athena and Roxanne smiled upon seeing Shirai be the next one in. The girl slipped through the cage door and immediately knew where to go. She quickly began climbing the ladder to the second level of the field and hopped onto some floating still platforms as she stood above the others. Pipp and Roll looked up to see the girl above as she had the higher ground.
Turn 9: Shirai (Hand 5)
"Glad you could make it, Shirai!" said Athena.
"Don't sweat it; the Genius of Sky rules this domain. Hey, Athena! Cool if I borrowed your monster?"
"He's all yours, girl!"
"Sweet!" said Shirai as she looked at her foes. "Thanks to my teammate, I summon Vision Resonator(400/400). Then, since I control a tuner monster, I can also summon my Magical King Moonstar(900/600)." A monster dressed in dark blue robes with astrology markings appeared with a staff in its right hand. "And when he's summoned, his ability activates. He can copy the level of another monster on my field or in my graveyard. So he becomes Level 2, the same as my Vision Resonator."
"Oh, no," said both Pipp and Roll.
"Now, I tune my Level 2 Vision Resonator with my Level 2 Magical King Moonstar and Athena's Level 4 Battlin' Boxer Shadow!" Shirai said as her monster turned into two flaming rings that circled her other monsters with a yellow light surging through. "From the ancient chasms of a lost world. I awake a great and terrible power! I Synchro Summon! No rise, Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend(3000/2500)!" The girl's massive dragon appeared as it hovered behind Shirai.
"That monster is bad news!" said Zipp, knowing first-hand how tough Shirai's beast was.
"And they still have two minutes left," said Hitch, as both Roll and Pipp needed to survive before they could help them.
"Now… I activate Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend's special ability. Once per turn, I can use its effect to destroy as many special summoned monsters on the field as possible with fewer attack points. And for each one perished by its flame, I can inflict 500 points of damage."
"That also affects your teammates!" said Roll.
"No, it won't! 'Cause I'm activating my facedown. Majority Decision. Thanks to this trap, all our monsters on our side of the field can't be affected by card effects this turn. So Nova Kaiser is sticking around for its teammates!" snickered Athena.
"As for you two…" snickered Roxanne.
"Feel the heat of your impending demise!" shouted Shirai as her dragon's right claw glowed with fire before thrusting it out.
The fire shot out and engulfed Pipp and Roll's monsters; they didn't stand a chance and were destroyed. The two girls were then taken off their feet and crashed to the floor with screams.
Team CHS' Life Points: 12,500-
"What a move! Ms. Shirai has just laid waste to Roll and Pipp's entire field. I'm sending every monster they had packing!" Luna said over the mic.
"They're defenseless!" said Izzy, as neither had any monsters to protect themselves and were prime targets for Scarlight and Nova Kaiser to deliver direct attacks.
"Hey, Athena. Since you hooked me up with bringing out my Scarlight Red Dragon, let me repay the favor for you, girl. Because I activate Nova Kaiser's ability!" smiled Shirai.
"Much appreciated, partner!" smirked Athena. "Now I attach Battlin' Boxer Shadow to my Nova Kaiser, giving it 100 more attack points!"
"And since you two don't have any monsters protecting you, we're free to attack," smirked Roxanne.
"Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend, attack them directly. Molten Crimson Flare!" shouted Shirai.
"Pipp!" shouted Zipp as she could only watch her sister about to take this attack.
"You got anything?" asked Pipp as she and Roll kneeled.
"I wish I did," responded Roll.
"Well… good thing I got one," said the popstar as she nodded at Roll, who returned the gesture. "I reveal my facedown, Melodious Remastered. Thanks to this trap, it can copy the effect of another card in our graveyards. Roll…"
"Right," said the girl as she thrust her hand out. "Ghost Salvage! So Aero Shark and Needle Sunfish are back in play!" The two monsters appeared in defense mode as they looked to protect both girls.
"Like that changes anything. Take out Aero Shark!" stated Shirai, redirecting her attack to remove Roll's Xyz monster.
"Nova Kaiser, take out her other monster!" said Athena, as she joined in and had her monster punch their last monster into destruction.
"Close call," said Sunny as the pair managed to avoid taking serious damage.
"Your luck's going to run out. And until then, we've got plenty more. Now, I activate Vision Resonator's special ability. Since it was sent to the graveyard, I can add a spell or trap card that mentions 'Red Dragon Archfiend.'" stated Shirai as her duel disk ejected the card she wanted. She looked at it momentarily before gazing over to where Flurry was seated.
"I set one card facedown and end my turn."
Alright, Cap. I did my part.
Turn 10: Roll (Hand 1)
"It's my move. I draw!" said the girl as she looked to at least summon something to protect themselves. "I'll start by playing Pot of Greed. Now I can pick up two more cards. Next up, since you have two or more monsters on the field, I can summon this card without tributing another monster. Let it roar, Panther Shark(1100/2000)! In fact, this whole field is about to be shark-infested! Because once I summon Panther Shark, I can also summon Eagle Shark(1000/1800) from my hand!" Two sharks appeared from whirlpools; one had an eagle's face, while the other had a panther's face.
"Two Level 5 monsters?" said Athena.
"Now I overlay my Panther Shark and Eagle Shark in order to build the Overlay Network and Xyz Summon!" Roll's two sharks turned into orbs of light as they hovered in the air. A portal opened before her as the orbs were sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "Now I can bring forth the most fearsome warrior in the sea! Valiant Shark Lancer(2500/1600, OLU: 2)!"
"Only 2500 attack points?" mocked Shirai.
"Don't worry. My monster has some cool powers. Check this out. By using one overlay unit, I can target and destroy one monster you all control. So I'm choosing to get rid of Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend!" stated Roll as she pointed at the beast. Her monster threw its lance at the flying beast as it vaporized into nothing.
"Nice!" said Pipp, glad they didn't have to worry about that beast anymore.
"I end my turn," said Roll as she couldn't do much more.
Turn 11: Athena (Hand 2)
"My move!" said the girl as she drew her card. I'll activate my Nova Kaiser's special ability. So by attaching my Battlin' Boxer Veil from my hand, it gets 100 more extra attack points!" stated the Crystal Prep teen as her Xyz monster had four orbs and 2700 attack points.
"And with that… I end my turn," smiled Athena.
Both Pipp and Roll were surprised. They expected the girl to attack, given they could not protect Roll's monster from destruction.
Turn 12: Pipp (Hand 2)
"Keep your guard up, Pipp!" said Roll.
"Right," said the girl, drawing her card to initiate her turn. "I'll place this monster facedown. That's all!" said Pipp, as the only thing they could do was play defense.
Turn 13: Roxanne (Hand 4)
"Time for me to pick up the slack. Here goes!" Roxanne stated as she drew. I play Gem-Knight Fusion, so I fuse Gem-Knight Quartz and Gem-Knight Lapis." The two swirled around each other in blue and colorless light. "I combine the powers of light and water and spark the spirit of an angelic new fighter! I Fusion Summon! Gem-Knight Lady Rose Diamond(2700/2400)!" A pillar of water ceased as it revealed a female knight wearing a light beige-color armor with a blue cape, armor with bits of the color itself, and a fencing sword wielding.
"Now, by banishing my Quartz from my graveyard, I get back my Gem-Knight Fusion!" stated Roxanne as her card slid out for her to grab. "And now, Lady Rose Diamond. Slice that Valiant Shark Lancer!" The female knight lunged into the air as it sliced and diced Roll's monster, which crumbled.
Team CHS' Life Points: 12,300-
"I end my turn."
3… 2… 1…
The penalty box from Sunny's group lit up as their next duelist would be free to enter. Hitch looked to go but was yanked by Zipp as she shoved the boy back. The girl quickly ran out, looking for a piece of the action.
"Zipp!" shouted Hitch as the door closed once she was gone.
"It's fine, Hitch. She can handle it," said Sunny.
"And Ms. Storm will make her entrance. Meaning we are at the halfway point, and now entrants will enter in two-minute periods. In addition, each new entrant will automatically get their turn once the current duelist ends theirs." said Luna as this duel was about to pick up even more.
The heiress had been kept in for too long as she couldn't wait any longer. She entered and immediately spotted Shirai above. She then began to climb the ladder to the second floor, and as she got to the floating platforms in between, she confronted her foe.
"Didn't you learn your lesson in our last duel? I rule the skies!" stated Shirai.
2:00
Turn 14: Zipp (Hand 5)
"My move!" said Zipp as she drew.
"Thanks, sis," said Pipp, relieved that her sister had joined in at that moment to temporarily even the odds.
"I summon Speedroid Ohajkid(1000/200)!" stated the girl as her monster appeared. "Thanks to its special ability, I can grab a tuner monster from either graveyard and use it with my Ohajkid to Synchro Summon. So I tune my Ohajikid with your Vision Resonator!" Shirai's monster appeared before turning into two giant green rings that circled her other monster. "I Synchro Summon! Say hello to a Monster that always edges down the competition! Hi-Speedroid Chanbara(2000/1000)!"
"Perfect!" said Shirai. "I reveal my facedown!"
The entire field lit up in fire, momentarily causing the CHS trio to look away. Meanwhile, the CPA trio all held smirks on their faces. The fire soon died down, and when Zipp opened her eyes, she gasped as the entire field was bare and empty. Nothing but the sizzling sound of fire with smoke trails remained.
"What did you do?" asked Zipp.
"Simple. First, my Raging Red Inferno nukes the entire field, ridding all monsters currently in play. Plus, there's its other effect."
"What effect?" asked Pipp.
"I can't say until it happens," smiled Shirai.
"Great," groaned Roll as they had another thing to contend with.
"So… are you done with your turn, Zipp?" mocked Shirai.
"Not even. With the field clear, I can summon this monster. Speedroid Terrortop(1200/600). When this bad boy is summoned, I can add any 'Speedroid' I want to my hand. And since there's nothing protecting your Life Points, I'm free to attack. Terrortop!" The girl's monster slithered its way toward Shirai, sinking its fangs into her duel disk as she blocked it.
Team CPA's Life Points: 11,100-
3… 2… 1…
Crystal Prep's penalty box lit up. JD saw the lights go off as he smirked. He then stepped out and began to march toward the field. The boy glanced at Hitch when he exited as it taunted the teen.
"And for Crystal Prep, it's none than the Ace, JD, himself!"
The CHS trio heard that announcement as they saw the boy enter the field and quickly strap on his duel disk. The boy's teammates all smiled, glad to have the backup they needed, just as Zipp's turn was nearing its end.
"Anything else?" taunted Shirai.
2:00
Zipp growled as she looked at her hand. The girl hated to prove her foes right, but she couldn't do anything else for now.
"I just set two cards facedown!" said Zipp, hoping her cards might buy them time till they got help.
Turn 15: JD (Hand 5)
"Stand back, girls!" said JD, looking to show off a bit. "I summon XX-Saber Boggart Knight(1900/1000)! And with him out, I activate his special ability. So I get to summon one Level 4 or below 'X-Saber' monster from my hand. I summon the Level 1 tuner monster, X-Saber Palomuro(200/300)!" A lizard in half armor appeared as it wielded a small lance. "And since I have two 'X-Saber' monsters on the field, I can also bust out XX-Saber Faultrolll(2400/1800)! Now… Level 1 Palomuro tunes Level 4 Boggart Knight." The reptile turned into a single giant green ring that circled its comrade. "I Synchro Summon! X-Saber Wayne(2100/400)!" A cowboy wearing a white mask appeared as it wielded a blaster with a sword attached at the end of it.
"This posse isn't full yet. Because of X-Saber Wayne's effect, when it's synchro summoned, I can summon another 'X-Saber' monster from my hand. So make way for the tuner monster XX-Saber Fulhelmknight(1300/1000)!" The cowboy aimed his blaster before him as he shot the ground. A portal opened and out came a blond knight as she twirled her sword like a whip. "And now, thanks to Faultroll's ability, Palomuro returns from the graveyard!"
"Not good!" said the girls as JD filled up his team's side with monsters.
"Now, this is where things get interesting. I tune my Fulhelmknight with my Faultroll!" The blond knight turned into three giant green rings circling her comrade as a yellow light surged. "I Synchro Summon! XX-Saber Gottoms(3100/2600)!" A giant warrior fully donned in armor and wielded a massive sword on its shoulder appeared.
"But that's not all… Now Palomuro tunes X-Saber Wayne! To spawn an unstoppable cyclone of steel!" stated JD as his reptile turned into a single giant green ring that circled its other comrade with a yellow light surging through.
"What now?" said Pipp.
"I Synchro Summon! XX-Saber Hyunlei(2300/1300)!" A martial arts woman with armor on her legs and arms appeared; her face was revealed, and she was wielding a small katana. "I hope you weren't counting on your facedowns. Because Hyunlei's special ability activates when she's synchro summoned. She can destroy up to 3 spells or trap cards on the field."
"No!" said Zipp as her two facedowns were taken out.
"Nice work, JD!" said Roxanne.
"It's like we always say! Never bet against an Ace!" said Shirai, praising her friend's efforts.
"You know, girls. I could tighten the screws even more for you all," smirked the boy as he looked at his teammates. "It's time to summon reinforcements! I'm now activating the spell card, Gottoms' Second Call! Since I control an 'X-Saber' Synchro monster, I can bring back 2 'X-Saber' monsters from my graveyard, but their attack points become zero. So welcome back, X-Saber Wayne and Faultroll. And now, with Faultroll's ability, I'm bringing back Fulhelmknight from the grave!"
The entire field of Crystal Prep was littered with monsters as the girls could only stare at the massive army, JD managed to bring his allies.
"Jealous," taunted Athena as she could see how the girls wished they had backup like they just did with their teammate.
"I now tune Fulhelmknight with Faultroll!" declared JD as his monster turned into three giant green rings that circled his other monster with a yellow light surging through. "I Synchro Summon! XX-Saber Gottoms!"
"Not another one!" said Zipp, as they had two massive brutes to deal with.
"Let's start the pain! XX-Saber Hyunlei, take out her Terrortop!" said JD as his monster threw out small knives that took out Zipp's sole monster.
Team CHS' Life Points: 11,200-
"And next, both XX-Saber Gottoms will strike you all!" said the boy.
0:15
The two massive brutes swung their swords and delivered some slashes as they knocked all three girls back. In the case of Zipp, being on the second level, she was thrown off her floating platform and to the side platform and crashed as down below, her sister and Roll also hit hard.
Team CHS' Life Points: 5000-
"They might not even last before all of us get in," snickered Roxanne at how many Life Points they had left.
"They need help!" said Izzy.
At that moment, their penalty box lit up.
"Be careful, Hitch!" Sunny said as the boy nodded. He then began to run out when the door opened, looking to come to his friend's aid.
The four Crystal Prep students smiled as Hitch entered through the caged door and quickly checked on Roll and Pipp as they lay on the floor.
"Are you guys okay?" asked Hitch.
"We're… fine," groaned Roll.
The boy was relieved his friends were okay before he turned to face the four Crystal Prep students eyeing him down.
2:00
"Well, well, well. Looks like the sheriff was to play the hero," mocked JD as Hitch glared at his competition.
"Don't be a fool, stud. You can't take us all on!" said Shirai from above.
Turn 16: Hitch (Hand 5)
"Nobody messes with my friends! I draw!" said Hitch, willing to stand his ground despite the odds.
"I'd like to see you try to get through our monsters," smirked Athena.
"I play the spell card One for One. So, by discarding one card from my hand, I can bring out my Level 1 Changer Synchron(0/0) from my deck. Then I'll send another card to my graveyard to special summon the tuner monster, Quickdraw Synchron(700/1400)!" Out came a small robot cowboy with a brown cape and one eye revealed from under its hat, having a white feather in it.
"Then, since I have a tuner monster out on my field, I'm allowed to bring back the Quillbolt Hedgehog(800/800), I just discarded," stated Hitch as his furry little animal appeared "Next, I tune my Quickdraw Synchron with my Quillbolt Hedgehog to create a creature that can really give me a boost!" Hitch's cowboy robot turned into five giant green rings circling his hedgehog as a yellow light surged through. "Let's rev it up! I Synchro Summon! Nitro Warrior(2800/1800)!" Out emerged a mechanical minotaur humanoid robot as it let out a roar while flexing its nitro-fueled arms.
"And next… I'll bring out Gauntlet Warrior(400/1600). But he won't be around for long. Because I'm now going to tune my Level 1 Changer Synchron with him to create another synchro monster!" Hitch's smaller robot turned into a giant green ring that circled his other monster with a light surging through. "How about giving me a hand, Armory Arm(1800/1200)!"
"Two Synchro monsters, but neither is strong enough to take down either of my Gottoms," mocked JD.
"Listen, stud. I know you got some good muscles on you, but it's clear you don't have a brain underneath all those," Roxanne taunted.
"For your information, I got both. Check this out. I'll use Armory Arm's ability; with it, I can give more muscle to my Nitro Warrior's attack points. 1000 more, to be precise!" stated Hitch as his claw arm attached to his Nitro Warrior. "Next, I'm equipping him with Junk Barrage! And since I activated a spell card this turn, Nitro Warrior gains 1000 more attack points for this round's attack."
"4800 attack points!" said Athena as Hitch now had the strongest monster of all.
"That's right. Go, Nitro Warrior. Attack X-Saber Wayn with Dynamite Crunch!" said Hitch as his monster lunged forward and brought its right hand down on the weak cowboy; it perished and sent some massive waves of damage to all four Crystal Prep teens.
Team CPA's Life Points: 6300-
"Now, when Nitro Warrior destroys a monster, he can attack again! He may lose the extra 1000 points, but he still has more than enough to take out one of your monsters. So take out Gottoms #1!" said Hitch as he pointed at the left one. Nitro Warrior put its right arm out and made a soundwave come out of its palm, destroying the large brute.
Team CPA's Life Points: 5600-
"Since the equipped monster destroyed yours in battle, Armory Arm's ability deals damage equal to Gottom's attack points. Thanks to Junk Barrage's additional effect, half of Gottom's attack points are also dealt to you as damage."
"No way!" said all four.
Hitch's monster slammed its hand as the ground began to open up toward the Crystal Prep teens. A massive light shined in their faces as they felt the attack and fell back.
Team CPA's Life Points: 950-
"Nice one, Hitch!" said Zipp at how he did so much damage.
The boy smiled stoutly as he felt proud.
2… 1…
The penalty box for Crystal Prep lit up as Axiom looked to go, but Phin stopped her, putting her arm out to halt her friend.
"Remember, we stick to the plan," said the girl to her friend, reminding him of their initial game plan.
"Well, the plan's changed, thanks to him!" said Axiom as he pointed at Hitch down at the field. He could see how few Life Points they had left before the duel actually began, so he needed to go in.
Phin shook her head, as she wasn't going to risk the plan she had devised during their strategy meeting. She looked over at Flurry, who remained seated, wanting her input.
"Axiom… stick to the plan," stated Flurry.
"Right," said the boy as he backed down and listened to his leader.
"I got this!" assured Phin as she could handle Hitch and get them back on track toward their plan.
The girl lowered her goggles to her face and rushed out. She took a moment to look at Sunny and Izzy as she eyed the latter.
"You better think twice about entering, hippie!" called out the girl before running down the aisle.
"Hey, get back here! Let me at her!" shouted Izzy as she tried to bite on the box's interior as if to get to Phin while Sunny sighed and facepalmed herself for Izzy's antics.
Phin rushed down to the field as she slipped in, and quickly took her position in front of her friends. The girl stared through her goggles, eyeing Hitch's defiant face.
2:00
"Shirai, get your ass down here, now!" called out the girl.
The girl managed to slowly slide down the ladder as she fell to a knee and clutched her side. On the other side, Zipp got down and checked on her sister while Hitch stood guard. The teens behind Phin all got to their knees as they clutched their sides from Hitch's latest attack.
"What's the plan, Architect?" asked Roxanne, wanting to see if she calculated for Hitch dealing that much damage.
"I always have a Plan B," responded the girl to her friends as she lifted her duel disk.
Turn 17: Phin (Hand 5)
"My move! Hey, JD. I'm borrowing your monster. No excuses!"
"Yeah, sure, whatever!" said the boy, as he knew when Phin needed something for her plan, she'd always get it.
"First, I'm activating the spell card, Morphtronic Signal! So by sending Gottoms straight to the graveyard, we get to raise our Life Points by its attack points!" stated the girl as she got rid of her partner's monster. A shower of particles sprayed over them, giving them more Life Points.
Team CPA's Life Points: 4050-
"Next, I'm also activating the One for One spell card, just like you. So I get rid of a monster card to summon a Level 1 monster from my deck. I'll eliminate Morphtronic Cameran and summon Morphtronic Celfon(100/100)!" A large yellow cell phone appeared in front of Phin. A sheen of light washed over it and broke apart, transforming it into a large yellow robot with bright pink eyes. The phone screen cracked down in the center and swung back, forming a pair of wings.
"I activate Celfon's ability. Once per turn, I can roll a die, and whatever the result is, I can reveal that many cards on the top of my deck and summon a Level 4 or lower Morphtronic monster among them." Phin snapped her fingers. "Go, Morphtronic Speed Dial!" Celfon thrust out its chest, which comprised the top half of the phone form's dial pad. The numbers lit up in rapid sequence before stopping on '4'. "Awesome!" The girl grabbed four cards from her deck, looked over them, and nodded.
"I'll bring out Morphtronic Remoten(300/1200)!" A white remote control for a video player appeared next to Celfon. The screen blipped to life to show a pair of eyes as arms and leg cords shot out of its sides. "Next, I'll use Remoten's ability. By banishing a Morphtronic monster in the graveyard, a Morphtronic with the same Level can be added from my deck to my hand. I'll get rid of Cameran (800/600) and get a second one out, and then I'll summon him." The card ejected from her duel disk, and she swiftly placed it on the card tray. A large red camera appeared in front of her and transformed into another robot, the camera's flash mounted on the back of its arm.
"I then tune my Level 3 Morphtronic Remoten with my Level 2 Morphtronic Cameran!" Morphtronic Remoten burst apart into three glowing green rings. The rings floated around Cameran and began to spin while Cameran glowed yellow. "I align the frequencies of my remote control and my camera together and home in on the signal of a high-tech prodigy!" She brought her arm back and raised her duel disk, her hand poised over the back of the device. A card snapped out from it, and she grabbed it and placed it on her card tray. "I Synchro Summon! Come on out! T.G. Hyper Librarian(2400/1800)!" The rings around Cameran contracted and then exploded out, revealing Phin's new monster. A tall, slim humanoid figure in a white and black robe stood before her, a white cloak trailing down its back. It raised its head, concealed by a military cap and glasses, and snapped an arm out, a book tracing out in green light and then popping into existence in its hand.
"Next, I'll banish Morphtronic Remoten from my graveyard to special summon Morphtronic Smartfon(100/100)." A slim smartphone materialized in Phin's line of monsters and snapped apart, the pieces within unfolding to form hands and feet. The top of the phone popped up, revealing a slim pair of red eyes. I'll then activate Smartfon's effect. It's similar to Celfon's effect, but instead of summoning a Morphtronic monster from the deck, it adds a Morphtronic card into my hand. Go, Morphtronic Messenger!" Smartfon's screen on its chest began cycling through numbers, stopping on a '2'.
"Just how many abilities will you activate?" asked Hitch.
"Enough to get this duel back in our favor," said Phin. "One of the cards is Junk Box, so I'll that to my hand. Following that… I'll tune my Morphtronic Celfon with my Morphtronic Smartfon!" Smartfon turned into another green ring that rose and lowered over Celfon. Phin extended a hand into the air. "I align the frequencies of my cellphone and my smartphone together and home in on the signal of a high-tech speedster!" She grabbed her card from her duel disk and put it on the tray. "I Synchro Summon! Rolling out, Formula Synchron(200/1500)!" The teen's new monster was shaped like a race car, with legs emerging from below it and arms from the sides between the wheels. It stood next to Hyper Librarian and rested its hands on the car part that formed its chest.
"When I summon Formula Synchron, its effect activates, letting me draw a card. Also, performing a Synchro Summon activates Hyper Librarian's effect, letting me draw again." Phin picked up her two cards and folded them into her hand with the rest. "I got one more Synchro Summon ready."
"One more? But you need a tuner," said Hitch.
"Open your eyes, sheriff. My Formula Synchron is a tuner. A tuner synchro, to be precise!" said Phin.
"Tuner synchro?" said Hitch and Zipp, as they never heard that term in class.
"Watch! I tune my Hyper Librarian with my Formula Synchron!" Formula Synchron's twin green rings floated over Hyper Librarian. The monster inside sparked as metal began to gather around it and circle it. "I align the frequencies of my librarian and my speedster together and home in on the signal of a mechanical powerhouse!" The metal condensed around Hyper Librarian and lit up. "I Synchro Summon! Get ready to meet a monster with some major motor! Take flight, Power Tool Dragon(2300/2500)!" The metal shell shattered, revealing a large, gold, mechanical dragon with silver plates of metal running down its back to its tail. Its right arm was an electrical screwdriver bit, and it had a large shovel claw. Red eyes flashed to life, and it flew over the field, circling behind Hitch to return to Phin and alight beside her.
"I activate Power Tool Dragon's special ability. Once per turn, I can take three Equip Spell cards from my deck. Then you randomly pick one of them, and it gets added to my hand." Phin reached to her duel disk's screen and tapped through the display. The holograms of three cards appeared in the air over the girl's head. "Okay, go for it."
Hitch was now faced with the cards, scrunching his face and murmuring to himself. His eyes were turning back and forth as he looked at the backside of the cards, trying to make the right choice. The Crystal Preppies all smirked at watching the boy struggle with his decision.
"I… choose the card on the right."
"Thanks, dude. I had a feeling you would," smirked Phin as she took the card and held it up high. "I now play the card you gave me, Power Pickaxe! I equip it with my Power Tool Dragon, and thanks to its power, I can remove a monster from your graveyard that has an equal or lower level than my Power Tool Dragon. So I choose Zipp's Hi-Speedroid Chanbara!"
"Wha?" said the girl as she saw her monster appear before being sucked into the pickaxe on Power Tool Dragon.
"There's more. If the monster that Power Pickaxe is equipped to attacks this turn, it gains half of the attack points of the banished monster. So, Hitch, you thank your own teammate for what's about to happen. Not only that, but I'm also adding some extra insurance. I play the spell card Limiter Removal. Now I can double my dragon's attack points, but at the end of the turn, it's destroyed. So now… Power Tool Dragon, destroy Nitro Warrior!" The dragon then flew toward Hitch's field as the pickaxe began to glow before coming down on the monster, sending Hitch flying.
Team CHS's Life Points: 3200-
"Hitch!" shouted the girls as they saw their friend being taken off his feet.
"Just lie there. It'll be easier on us," responded Phin as she lifted her goggles to look at the boy with her own eyes.
"I'm sorry, Hitch. It's my fault!" said Zipp for accidentally powering up Phin's dragon.
"It's fine, Zipp…" groaned the boy as he sat up, "At least her dragon will be gone."
"Oh, my bad. I forgot. See, if I get rid of my Power Pickaxe, I can avoid my dragon being destroyed by Limiter Removal. So he's not going anywhere!" smirked Phin as she outsmarted her opponents. "I now place one card to end it."
2… 1…
The penalty box for CHS lit up as the lock to the door became unlocked.
"Okay, Izzy. Try to…"
The girl didn't wait for Sunny to finish her game plan as she immediately made the door swing open and run out like a manic.
"Izzy!" shouted Sunny as her friend charged headfirst.
"Phin! Heads up, it's the idiot!" remarked Athen as the girl saw Izzy enter and looked at her in the eye.
2:00
"I gave you a warning, hippie. You better think twice about this!" stated Phin.
Turn 18: Izzy (Hand 5)
"How's this as my answer? I draw!" said Izzy, not wanting to give into Phin's remarks. I summon Scrap Raptor(1400/1000)!" A mechanical dino-like monster appeared as it screeched. Thanks to its special ability, I can summon an additional monster this turn. So I also summon my Scrap Shark(2100/0)." This time, a metal shark appeared as steam emerged from its nostrils.
"Pieces of junk, just like you!" growled Phin.
"Call me what you want! But to me, these are nothing but parts that need a little love. And I got loads to give. Watch. I tune my Scrap Raptor with my Scrap Shark!" Izzy's dino turned into four giant green rings circling her other monster as a yellow light surged. "I Synchro Summon! Rise, my metal beast! Scrap Dragon(2800/2000)!" From above, a shadow flashed. It soon revealed a giant mechanical monster as steam was released from the pipes. A roar was heard as Izzy's metal-winged beast appeared.
"Now… Scrap Dragon, attack her Power Tool Dragon!" stated Izzy.
"You really are dumber than you look!" remarked Phin. "I reveal my facedown! Thanks to my Morphtronic Upgrade, my Power Tool Dragon can sidestep your attack. Looks like you failed, just as always."
"Is that so? Well, then… I guess I'll play. The quick-play spell, Unicycling!" said Izzy as she held her card out.
"Wha?"
"I can negate and destroy your trap with this card!"
"You little…" growled Phin at Izzy, managing to get rid of her counter.
Scrap Dragon opened its mouth as a fireball began to form. Within seconds, it threw the fireball as it headed toward Phin's monster. It lit up in red before exploding and bursting upon impact, sending the girl flying back to her downed teammates.
Team CPA's Life Points: 3650-
"That puts us near even," smiled Izzy as she turned to see her friends all getting up on their sides. "You guys good?" asked the girl, worried for her friends.
3… 2… 1…
"Go get 'em, Axiom!" stated Flurry as their penalty box lit up.
"Copy that!" said the boy as he ran out from within and toward the field.
"Izzy, look out!" shouted Sunny, trying to warn her friend, but she knew she couldn't hear. The girl looked at the timer just as Axiom entered, and the two-minute countdown began. "Just hold on, guys."
2:00
Axiom arrived as he entered while Izzy still had her back turned to her opponent. She was unaware that he had entered, as she was more concerned for her friends.
"Izzy…" said Roll as she pointed behind the girl.
The girl picked up on that and turned her head slowly as she saw Axiom with his duel disk locked and loaded.
Turn 19: Axiom (Hand 5)
"It's my draw!" said the boy as he looked to take out Izzy and her beast. "I'm not wasting any time. You and your friends' fate has already been sealed. I play Polymerization and use it to combine my Destiny HERO - Drilldark and Decider! With the help of this next Monster, your fates are about to take a terrifying turn for the worst! I Fusion Summon! Destiny HERO - Dystopia(2800/2400)!"
"Izzy… watch out for that monster…" warned Hitch as he knew how powerful that thing Axiom had was.
"Even with your friend's warning, you can't escape what comes next. Because I activate Dystopia's special ability. When it's summoned, I can target one Level 4 or lower 'Destiny HERO' monster in my graveyard, and you will take damage equal to its attack. And I choose my Drilldark! Pummeling Palm!" Axiom's monster appeared as it swooped in and struck Izzy, causing the girl to flinch in pain and drop to her knees as she held her sides.
"Izzy!" shouted the others.
Team CHS' Life Points: 1600-
"Next, I discard my Destiny HERO - Blade Master from my hand. By doing that, its effect allows me to give my Dystopia an extra 800 attack points till the end of the turn. And that activates Dystopia's other ability. When its attack points change, it can destroy one card on the field. So Dystopia, send that Scrap Dragon back to the junkyard where it belongs!" stated the boy. His monster thrust his hand out as the small vacuum in its palm opened up and began to suck in Izzy's dragon.
"That's my dragon!" pouted the girl as she watched her project vanish before her very eyes.
"Now that your monster is gone, you have nothing left to protect you."
"Not quite. See, when Scrap Dragon is destroyed, I can bring back a non-synchro 'Scrap' monster from the graveyard. So I'm bringing back Hitch's Nitro Warrior in defense mode!" proclaimed the girl as it appeared.
"That won't change anything. Dystopia, get rid of it! Dystopian Destruction!" commanded Axiom. His monster leaped into the air as it was shown reeling its fist back, which sparked with electricity. It then brought it down on Nitro Warrior, destroying it in the process and sending Izzy off her feet.
"Izzy, no!" said the others as she crashed on the floor before them.
"Let that be a lesson; the Archer of Infamy never misses the bullseye!" stated Axiom. "I place one card facedown and end my turn."
3… 2… 1…
"I'm coming, guys!" shouted Sunny as her penalty box lit up. The girl then rushed out as she looked to go aid her friends.
"That's right, Sunny. Keep running. Because you and your friends are going to have to deal with the final boss," muttered Flurry as she watched her foe move toward her teammates.
The girl got in as she checked on Izzy, who Hitch had in his arms. She quickly bent down to check on her friends as she was worried to the max.
2:00
"Izzy, speak to me!" said Sunny.
"That was a doozy," said the girl as she came around, putting her hand on her head.
Sunny breathed a sigh of relief, glad to see her friend was okay. She then turned to Roll, who clutched at her side.
"Roll, be honest with me now! Is he coming, or is he not?!" Sunny asked, wanting to know if Mario would show up at this very moment.
"I… I-I-I…"
"Roll, tell us!" shouted Zipp.
"I… I don't know if he's coming," confessed the girl.
"What do you mean, you don't know if he's coming?!" yelled the heiress. "You lied to us!"
"I didn't, he just… he just… we got this," said the girl.
"Is he coming?" asked Sunny.
"We got this," was all Roll said.
"Sunny, focus!" responded Pipp as she gestured with her head.
The girl turned as she saw Axiom waiting for her to get up so he could knock her down to join the rest of her crew. The girl looked at Roll, hoping what she said about Mario showing up might be true. Right now, she had to stand up and fight. The teen got to her feet and turned on her duel disk, looking to fight for her school and everyone counting on her.
Turn 20: Sunny (Hand 5)
"Let's see what you got, smoothie girl!" taunted Axiom.
"My move. Since I control no monsters, I can special summon my Exosister Martha(1600/800)! That, in turn, allows me to summon out her sibling, Exosister Elis(500/800)!" A pair of magical sorceresses appeared, with the latter wearing a red dress with silver trimmings and hazel hair while the former wore a more loose-fitting attire and had silver hair. "And thanks to their unique power, I can perform an Xyz summon using them alone. So I overlay Exosister Martha to build the Overlay Network!" Sunny's monster turned into an orb of light as it hovered in the air. A portal opened before her as the orb was sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon, Exosister Asphiel(2100/800, OLU: 1)" A pattern of stars appeared as they took the form of a girl; she appeared to have yellow hair and a white outfit with blue legging pants. She had her hand out as a bow of magic appeared.
"Next, I overlay Exosister Elis to build the Overlay Network once more!" declared Sunny as her other monster turned into an orb of light and hovered. Another portal opened before her as the orb was sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon! Exosister Gibrine(1400/2800, OLU: 2)!" Another female appeared as this one had blond hair and wore a white dress while twirling the wand she held.
"Alright, Sunny!" said Hitch, seeing his friend pull out some game changers.
"Now, I activate Asophiel's special ability. By using one overlay unit, I can target one monster you control and return it to your hand. And since Dystopia is a Fusion monster, it goes to the Extra Deck instead. So you have to resummon it all over again." smiled Sunny. Her monster pulled back her bow, fired a magical arrow piercing Dystopia, and teleported back to the boy's duel disk.
"Then I activate Gilbrine's effect. By using one overlay unit for the rest of my turn, all my Xyz monsters gain 800 attack points. So… Asophiel, attack him directly!" the girl ordered.
"I reveal my trap, D - Fortune. So by banishing my Decider from my graveyard, I can end the battle phase."
"No way," Sunny said, gritting her teeth. She hoped to end this before Flurry could get in.
"You failed, Sunny. And now time's up," smiled Axiom as his friends all did the same.
"It's not over yet. I overlay both of my Rank 4 Xyz monsters!" said the girl as they turned into orbs of light and hovered into the air. A portal opened up as they were sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon! Rank 8, Exosisters Magnifica(2800/2800, OLU: 2)" Out came a pair of sisters, both wearing similar outfits and armor, but one had a staff with lightly blond hair, and the other had a sword with yellow hair.
"I end my turn," said Sunny, hoping to at least fortify their defense given what was about to come.
3… 2… 1…
The penalty box lit up as Flurry opened her eyes. The girl stood up from her chair and proceeded to exit the hold. Sunny looked like everyone else, and they saw the captain of Crystal Prep's team. Flurry was just casually strolling down the aisle, with no sense in hurrying. She mocked Sunny as she took her sweet time entering. Just as she arrived at the cage door and stepped in, she halted. Sunny was confused as to why Flurry wasn't getting in. The Crystal Prep girl smiled as Sunny was now daring Flurry to get in so she could get to her. Flurry smiled at how her foe was acting as she simply snapped her fingers.
Sunny was then jumped by Roxanne, along with Athena and Shirai. The others saw this and tried to get up to help Sunny, but they still felt the effects of the previous attacks. At that moment, Flurry decided to step in, as she saw her teammates holding Sunny down, which was perfectly legal in this type of duel. The girl was forced to look at Flurry and make her way toward Axiom, who simply stepped behind to allow the girl to take center stage.
"Let her go," said Flurry, as she didn't want to rough up Sunny too bad.
The trio released their hold on Sunny, who got some good licks on her as she bent over and stared at Flurry.
2:00
"Sunny, Sunny, Sunny. I didn't want it to come to this. I really didn't. All I really wanted was some friendly competition, is that so hard, guys?" asked the girl to her team as they chuckled. "Apart from my cousin, you all are just lambs trying to fight against a lion."
"You think so, huh? You talk a big game from someone who sends her minions to do her dirty work while she takes a backseat!" shouted Zipp.
"You know the only regret that I have, Zipp? Is that I didn't slap you sooner!" Flurry growled as the heiress growled. At that moment, Flurry strapped on her duel disk. "You know, there's a saying Sombra says to us at Crystal Prep: that we're always being pushed to the edge of defeat by those who oppose us."
"What does that mean?" said Pipp.
"... But in the end, we rise up and we push back. And it is our enemies who cower and tremble with fear!" said Flurry as her eyes widened with intensity. The sight of seeing Flurry like that made Sunny gulp.
"Show'em, Cap!" egged on Axiom to his teammate.
Turn 21: Flurry Heart (Hand 5)
"It's my turn!" yelled Flurry as she drew her card with such intensity that it echoed for all to see.
"Sunny…" said Roll softly, putting her hand out as if to warn her friend about her cousin.
"I play this. The ritual spell card, Chaos Form!"
The wind began to pick up, catching everyone's attention. Flurry's teammates all knew what was coming as the end was near.
"Now, by offering up my Assault Wyvern and Dictator of D., I can perform a ritual summon!" declared Flurry, holding her card up high as it changed. "Now bear witness to… Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon(4000/0)!"
"Did she just say…"
Sunny was cut off by a loud, piercing screech. The girl and her friends looked up as the outline of Flurry's mighty beast appeared. It spread its wings out for all to take in the sight. The dragon landed with a thud behind Flurry, who smiled. The dragon roared as if showing its loyalty to its mistress.
"I was afraid of this…" muttered Roll as she knew what that card could do.
"4000 attack points," said Hitch.
0:30
"I'm showing you all what God mode looks like. Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon, eliminate Sunny and her monster!" commanded Flurry. The dragon roared as it opened its mouth; the girl was overcome with fear and couldn't move. Seconds later, the attack was fired, as a white energy beam came at Sunny.
"Sunny!" yelled the others.
The girl didn't hear as her monster was taken out and let out a painful, defeated cry as it was obliterated. The attack transferred to Sunny, who was easily taken off her feet and crashed hard on the ground.
Team CHS' Life Points: 400-
"Sunny!"
The others crawled to their friend as she lay on the ground, grunting and wincing. All the while, Flurry held her smile as her dragon roared, showcasing its strength and power. The girl's teammates all started to get up with Axiom's help as they watched their competition sulk in defeat. Even the rest of their school knew from the sight that they couldn't do anything.
5… 4… 3… 2… 1…
The buzzer went off as a formality. Everybody turned back to the area of the penalty boxes as if to see if Mario would show up. Everybody held still as they waited to see if he would come through the doors. Even Celestia and Luna hoped he'd show up, with the former leaning forward in her chair and gripping the armrests. Sombra helped his cocky smile as it was clear the boy was a no-show; therefore, his team would be named the automatic winner.
"Mario…" called out Roll in a rather somber tone.
Flurry could see that her cousin wouldn't back up his friends as it was clear his decision had been made. She turned her attention back to the group as Sunny started to stir and lifted her head to eye the Crystal Prep girl. Just as the two leaders met eye to eye, something began to happen. Some chatter was happening in the stands as it got some nearby students' attention. It soon got big enough that even the duelists on the field noticed it as did Luna, Celestia, and Sombra. As the three supervisions looked toward the noise, they couldn't believe what they saw.
A figure was shown coming down the stairs as if it were no ordinary figure. It was none other than Mario as the boy made his way through the crowd of CHS students who were now cheering him on and yelling in excitement that he'd arrived. Flurry and her crew couldn't believe what they were seeing, as neither could Roll and the others. The girl almost broke down in tears of joy as she saw her big brother arriving; the moment he came down to help them was just like the heroes he used who always would show up when they were needed the most.
Mario had a serious look on his face as it was clear he wasn't here to play games. The boy reached the end of the steps before he hopped over the stand and landed on the school grounds. He looked at Flurry and her crew as they all stood in a line, waiting for the boy to enter. Mario rubbed his nose before he began to approach the caged structure and strapped his duel disk on.
"He can't be allowed to enter now, sister! He missed his opportunity!" said Luna as Mario broke the rules by not showing up on time.
"I concur with Luna. The boy failed to show up. And he thinks he can just join in whenever he can!" Sombra, too, agreed with the younger sister about Mario not obeying the rules of the match.
"Oh, shut up, you two!" yelled Celestia as she got up out of her chair to shout at her sister and former lover for being sticklers for rules. "Screw the rules!" Celestia yanked the microphone from her little sister and turned to look at Mario. The boy gazed up at his principal. He nodded before stepping through the cage door, and he grabbed it to shut it himself as if to signal to his cousin and her gang that they were locked inside with an apex predator now.
"And now…. Let the Wargames…. BEGIN!" Celestia yelled as loud as she could into the mic to signal the official start of this duel while staring at Sombra.
"Oof!" said the man as Celestia shoved the mic into his stomach, making him fall back into his chair as she sat down beside him while clutching his side from how hard she got in the gut.
Mario stared down his cousin and her crew as they didn't know what to make of this. The boy stood before his friends; they couldn't believe their eyes. None were more happy than Roll as she could cry.
"Brother…"
Mario and Flurry stared each other down as if two alpha males were fighting for territory. The girls' friends looked to get at the boy, but Flurry told them not to engage. Instead, she told them to step back while she dealt with her cousin's arrival.
"We know how this will end, primo. Do you really want to do this? Let me remind you, I kicked your ass when we were younger. And I can still kick your ass!" declared Flurry.
"Make your move," responded Mario.
"Don't say I didn't warn you. Now… I play the spell card, Maiden Vengeance, so I half your remaining Life Points!" shouted Flurry as a thunderbolt came down on the girl's cousin.
Team CHS' Life Points: 200-
Mario felt the thunderbolt strike him, causing him to fall to his knees and bend before his cousin. The boy groaned as he looked at Flurry.
"Shirai!" said Flurry to her friend.
As Mario got to his feet, the ground began to rumble. One by one, pillars of light occurred. The boy lifted his head, and to his and his friends' surprise, nearly every special summoned monster that Flurry and her crew summoned from their Extra Deck throughout the whole duel stood before the teen.
"How?" groaned Zipp, seeing the massive army stand before Mario.
"You remember my Raging Red Inferno from before? Well, its second effect allows for all the monsters we've summoned throughout this duel as long as their special abilities are negated!" responded the girl.
"Either way, you've got a massive army of monsters to deal with!" snickered Athena, as all seven Crystal Prep students smiled, their individual creatures glaring at Mario.
"Make your move, cousin," taunted Flurry with Mario's own words.
Turn 22: Mario (Hand 5)
Mario grunted as he willed himself to stand up. He looked at his cousin and her teammates as the determined expression on his face said it all. He then lifted his duel dusk, showing his hand on top of his deck. The sight of the sea of monsters he had waiting for him was a sight as he took a deep breath.
"I draw!" said Mario as this turn would decide everything.
The boy's friends all looked on, waiting to see what he would do. Flurry stared solidly at her cousin, wondering if he could miracle out. Mario just gazed at his hand before lifting his eyes to look at his cousin.
"I play Polymerization to fuse my Elemental HERO Clayman and Sparkman!" stated the boy as he held out all three cards, and his two monsters appeared above him before being sucked into a swirling vortex with orange and purple lights. "I Fusion Summon, Elemental HERO Thunder Giant(2400/1500)."
"Why summon that? It doesn't have enough attack points!" said Zipp.
"He's your cousin, Flurry," mocked JD as the rest of them couldn't help but laugh at the monster Mario chose to fight with.
"Shut up!" yelled the girl to her crew as she scolded them for mocking her cousin's move. The girl gave her friends a death stare as they backed off, clearly knowing not to mess with her family. She then turned to Mario and gave him a nod which he returned the gesture.
"Next, I play the spell card, Skydive Scorcher!" stated Mario as his monster was engulfed in flames.
Thunder Giant then leaped into the air as it soared high above the field of monsters on Flurry's side. The girl just stared definitely at her cousin's monster, while the others didn't know what was happening.
"Thanks to this spell, I can destroy as many monsters with higher attack points than my Thunder Giant! And you all take damage equal to the highest attack point!" declared Mario.
"What?!" said the six.
"Yeah!" said Zipp with excitement.
Thunder Giant then dove as it was coming at the massive field like a meteor about to hit the earth. Each of the monsters on Crystal Prep's side tried to shoot down the superhero coming toward them, but he moved out of the way of the attacks and seconds later came crashing down on the field, with a massive explosion taking place.
"Phin!" said Axiom to the girl. She grabbed a card from her hand and sent it away, but the explosion went off.
Flurry's teammates were all blown back and crashed to the floor as only the girl stood her ground. The explosion made some marks appear as she looked at the explosion. When it died down, only Power Tool Dragon, Formula Synchron, T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Nova Kaiser remained, as they were much weaker than her cousin's monster.
Team CPA's Life Points: 50-
"Well… go on. Do it," said Flurry, as all Mario had to do was call his attack and win the match for his team.
"Thunder Giant… attack!" shouted Mario as he sent his monster into the battle.
Flurry closed her eyes as if to accept what was about to happen. The rest of her friends looked on as they saw their captain not budging and about to take the attack full on. Phin scrambled to her feet, ignored the pain, and reached for another card in her hand.
"Morphtronic Deflection!" shouted the girl as she rushed toward her captain. "By sacrificing my Power Tool Dragon, I can switch Formula Synchron into defense mode, and then it will become your new target!"
The dragon vanished as Formula Synchron rolled forward to intercept Thunder Giant. Mario's monster fired an electric barrage forward, destroying the monster as the attack continued and struck Phin in the chest just as she jumped in front of Flurry. The attack sent the girl flying back as she literally took the bullet for her friend; Flurry watched her friend step in the line of fire as she gasped.
Phin crashed to the floor with a thud as she groaned.
"Cap!"
"I activate Phin's card from the graveyard, Morphtronic Replacement!" shouted Flurry as Mario's Thunder Giant vanished and was replaced with Sunny's Exosister Asophiel. "Now… T.G. Hyper Librarian attack!"
The monster rushed forward just as Sunny was slowly getting up. She witnessed the final moments as the monster punched her monster, causing an explosion that blew over the field. Nearly everything was covered by the attack, and a massive wind blew over the field. It lasted for quite a while, and when it died down, Flurry was on her knees while Mario skidded to a halt. The two cousins looked at each other as the final result was registered.
Team CHS' Life Points: 0-
Winner: Team CPA
"Ladies and gentlemen, your winner of Wargames…. Team Crystal Prep Academy."
"AHHHH!" yelled Flurry as she bawled her fists and shouted upwards with a cry.
One-half of the audience cheered, while the other half was in disbelief. Flurry and Mario, who were the only ones capable of moving, got to their feet as they stood and stared at one another. All around them, their teammates and friends lay about. The two cousins held their sides as the match they had just gone through was more brutal than they thought, and they felt the effects. Flurry panted heavily as she turned to see Axiom crawling toward Phin's body as she lay on the ground.
"Phin! Phin!" said the boy, shaking her body to wake her. The others all crawled toward their downed teammate as she was put in Roxanne's arms.
The girl began to stir as she saw her teammates around her, and Flurry slowly approached her.
"Cap…" spoke Phin.
"Thanks. You did good," said Flurry, grabbing her friend's hand in a firm grip and thanking her for taking one for the team to get them the win.
The Crystal Prep teen then began to help her teammates to their feet as they, too, felt some pain. Flurry stood in the middle, and she grabbed Phin's wrist and Athena's wrist before lifting them up. All seven stood in line and basked in the glory of their win. Eventually, the students of CHS applauded for a stellar performance from all fourteen duelists; Celestia had her hands on her head as she shook her head. Sombra touched her shoulder to get her to look at him. The man smiled as what he told Celestia from the very beginning came true. Celestia had no choice but to eat her words and accept Sombra's smug grin.
Mario watched his cousin on the field as he stood over Roll. The boy checked on his little sister as he held her in his arms.
"You came…" said Roll to her older sibling.
"You're my sister… I love you more than anything else," said the boy as Roll smiled.
The girl shifted in her brother's arms to hug her sibling as he held her. Mario sighed as he held his little sister. Flurry and her crew took in their victory as the girl saw her cousins. She slowly approached them as both siblings looked at her; she bent down while still clutching her side to be at eye level with her two family members. She then stuck her hand out so her arm was angled at 45 degrees.
"I told you," said Flurry. "Legado de famila."
"Legado de famila," responded Mario as he acknowledged Flurry and put his hand in hers.
The two cousins held their grip before pulling each other in for a hug. They broke apart as Flurry did the same for Roll, who returned the gesture and hugged her cousin. Flurry then tapped Roll's head and kissed her forehead while giving her two family members a heartwarming smile. The Crystal Prep teen then stood up and looked beyond her cousins to see their friends gathering around Sunny, who was in Hitch's arms. She looked at the five as she spoke.
"Your story is over, Sunny!" stated Flurry as she returned to her friends while still holding her side.
The girl heard what Flurry said and couldn't do anything but take it. She looked upward as the sting of defeat hit her hard.
Author's Note: Talk about a brutal duel. Even with Mario showing up, Flurry and her crew proved to be that much better. And as such, the girl herself has shown why she's the final boss. If there was any doubt as to how powerful she is, this is but a taste of what her deck can be able to do. And with that, we can now begin the Friendship Games, and based on this victory... Flurry and her crew are riding a huge wave of momentum.
