In this chapter, our heroes will fight Wendy.

Half of them, anyway.

The other half will explore the icicle caverns.

They're approaching the end of World 4.

I bet that's a proud achievement for them.

Though there will be four more worlds after that.

Chapter 26: Wendy's Party's Over

Jessica bought a Dragontail Whip.

It seemed she had a lot of money to spend.

"This should give me an upgrade." noted Jessica.

Of course, she would make sure to spend some points on whips.

She could use more skills that way.

She had also spent some points on her beauty skill.

Now monsters would find her more attractive.

Wario bought a Metal Cap.

It allowed him to turn metal for a short time.

Having new abilities would be useful.

Though turning into metal did have its downsides.

Icicle Caverns

At the entrance, our heroes were attacked by Blue Moons.

"First we're attacked by suns, and now moons?" asked Luigi. It seemed that anything could be a monster.

"I know. You'd be surprised what monsters you can face in my world." noted Jessica. Though a lot of the monsters seemed to be slimes of some kind.

The Blue Moons fired miniature meteorites at our heroes.

"Ow! My head!" shouted Wario. It was a good thing those meteorites were small.

One of the Blue Moons summoned a Bewarewolf.

"Why are they summoning Beware-oh wait, I get it." said Luigi.

"Yeah…whenever there's a full moon, Bewarewolves aren't far behind." noted Jade.

One of the Bewarewolves let out a howl.

Luckily, nobody was knocked off their feet.

It was loud though. And it was lucky it didn't cause an avalanche as well. Perhaps the Bewarewolves should be more careful.

Wario threw some silver at the Bewarewolves.

"Owooooo!" shouted the Bewarewolves.

"They're weak to silver? Why doesn't that surprise me?" said Jessica.

Wario punched out a Blue Moon.

And yes, it felt weird punching out a moon.

But if Donkey Kong could make the moon fall out of orbit, why couldn't he fight these enemies?

After defeating the blue moons (as well as the Bewarewolves that they summoned), our heroes entered the caverns.

As the name implied, there were icicles that fell from the ceiling.

Some Diemons appeared.

When they rolled the die, you could never tell what was going to happen.

But it usually ended with something bad.

One of the Diemons began to roll the dice.

"Be careful, Diemons can be unpredictable." warned Jessica.

You never could tell what the dice would land on. Though you could hope that it would land on a 1 and not a 6.

The Diemon rolled a 1.

He punched Wario in the nose.

"Ow!" exclaimed the plumber.

Luckily, that didn't hurt much.

"I was hoping for a 6." pouted the Diemon. He would have done a lot more damage that way.

It seemed luck was not on his side.

"I've played games of chance before." noted Luigi.

He had done rather well.

It seems he was born lucky.

He had ended up in haunted residences…but Professor E. Gadd was always there to help him out.

And the last time, he had Polterpup on his side as well.

Wario punched the Diemon in retaliation.

The Diemon rolled the dice again.

This time, it was a 2.

The Diemon leapt on top of Wario.

This did a bit more damage.

Some Slime Stacks appeared.

"We've decided to huddle together for warmth!" exclaimed one of the slime stacks.

"That's a good idea." noted Jessica. Frosted Glacier was the coldest of the eight worlds. So it was best to be prepared for the cold.

Although, rumor had it that there was a ninth world.

Perhaps they should investigate.

But considering that World 9 supposedly had the strongest monsters around, maybe they shouldn't investigate too much.

Chances are they weren't ready for it.

Wario dropped a banana peel.

A Slime Stack slipped over it, causing them to split.

"Oh no!" exclaimed the top slime. They were a lot more vulnerable when they were split up.

When working together, the Slime Stacks could use team attacks.

They formed a tornado, then spun into Jessica.

"Oof!" exclaimed Jessica.

At the icy village, Mario felt a sense of deja vu…from Paper Mario's first chapter.

However, Jade countered by swinging her leg in a circle.

It seemed she could produce tornados as well.

The Slime Stack fainted.

This time, the boss was a King Slime.

He was supported by two Behemoth Slimes.

"This time we're facing three guardians!" exclaimed Jessica.

The King Slime nodded. He was the leader of them though. The trio that is.

"Hail to the king, babies!" shouted the King Slime.

"Don't call me a baby!" demanded Wario. He did not wear a diaper. Though there was a Mario game where he was a baby.

"Well, I do cry like one." noted Luigi. In his defense, he had been in haunted mansions multiple times. And he had been crying less often since the Year of Luigi.

The Behemoth Slimes attacked for their king.

"Oof!" exclaimed Jessica.

Behemoth Slimes were certainly tougher than their smaller cousins.

Though they weren't as tough as King Slimes themselves.

"If you're a king, does this mean you don't answer to Krystalinda?" asked Jade. He was a king among slimes, after all.

"Actually, she was the one who made me king." explained the King Slime. That was why he was guarding the way to the castle.

"That was nice of her." noted the martial artist.

Perhaps she still had traces of her old personality. She had still become cold-hearted though.

The King Slime summoned a Gem Slime.

It was shiny.

Wario laughed. It made him happy that he found one of them.

If he took out the slime, he would receive a generous helping of treasure.

And something told him this was one of the monsters that had pilfered from his treasure hoard.

Wario punched her with his fist.

"Ouch!" exclaimed the gem slime. Wario had some nerve hitting a lady. Though to be fair, that woman had stolen from him.

She threw gems at Wario in retaliation.

"How many times have I been attacked with money-a?" asked Wario.

It seemed that was happening to him a lot these days.

Apparently World 4 was full of irony as well as money. Aside from the ice, of course.

Jade kicked the Gem Slime, and she was KOed.

Her habit of scoring critical hits made her very useful for taking on metal enemies.

"I've gone bankrupt…" said the gem slime.

Since Jade had defeated the gem slime, she was rewarded with a generous amount of gold.

"Alright!" exclaimed the martial artist.

She would share some with Wario, knowing how much he loved money.

"Yeah!" exclaimed the plumber. He was really teaching those monsters a lesson. They weren't going to steal from him again anytime soon.

"We'll avenge you, gem slime!" shouted one of the slime behemoths.

"Uh-oh." spoke Jade.

The Behemoth Slimes began to attack the duo.

Jade dodged, but Wario was squished.

He became dizzy.

"Mamamia…" murmured the plumber who dressed in yellow.

Jade tossed a Refreshing Herb.

"Thanks!" exclaimed Wario.

Wario punched a Behemoth Slime in retaliation.

"Take that!" exclaimed the greedy plumber.

He had put on his Metal Cap for extra strength.

Jade kicked the other one.

"Goo, that smarts!" shouted the behemoth that had been attacked by Wario.

The other behemoth slime became dizzy.

Jessica launched a fireball at the Behemoth Slime.

"That's spicy!" exclaimed the behemoth.

She then followed by using her whip.

One of the behemoths went down.

"Oh no!" exclaimed the King Slime. One of his guardians had fallen. This would make it harder for him to win the fight.

Luigi then followed by shooting fire from the Poltergust.

"Things are really heating up!" exclaimed the unusually large slime.

He then leapt on top of the behemoth.

The other behemoth went down.

"Is there nobody who can help me?" asked the king slime. His bodyguards had fallen. And he was feeling rather vulnerable.

Some Mottle Slimes appeared.

"Phew!" exclaimed the slimy monarch.

These slimes attacked with lightning.

"Yikes!" shouted Luigi.

It seemed this time around they were tougher than their counterparts.

However, these slimes were weak to earth.

"Ouch!" exclaimed the Mottle Slimes that had been hit with rocks, courtesy of Wario.

Jade and Wario punched the King Slime simultaneously.

This was enough to take him down.

"I've been dethroned!" exclaimed the king slime.

The Behemoth Slimes were sorry to have failed their master. They looked up to the king. Though they hoped one of them could be king someday.

Luckily, he was a forgiving kind of slime. Even if he did work for an evil witch.

Jade pulled the flagpole along with Wario.

The King Slime dropped his crown.

"I guess I'm going to need another one." noted the King Slime. Maybe Krystalinda would give him another one if he asked nicely.

This made Wario very happy.

He imagined that crown would be worth a lot.

Hopefully it would be worth more than King Boo's crown, which is only worth one coin. You'd think that it would be more valuable.

"It looks like Krystalinda's castle is nearby." noted Jessica.

The castle was rather icy in appearance.

Which wasn't surprising considering who its owner was.

There was a statue of her in the center.

But in order to get there, they had to go through a ghost house.

"Another one?" questioned Luigi.

To be fair, it was the last obstacle they had to face before they reached Krystalinda.

So it seemed a bit hasty to give up now.

Meanwhile, in the Mother Chuckolola…

OST: Somnom Woods

Inside the tree were Piders.

And no, the author did not misspell spiders. Though he did admit that he made typos sometimes.

That was what they were called.

"I'm scared…" murmured Nera.

She thought Piders were creepy. After all, it wasn't every day that you encountered a monster that had eight legs.

"Remember to stay calm." said Alena. That was the best way to win a fight.

And besides, she would have a hard time using magic if she couldn't concentrate. She didn't want Nera's spells to fizzle, that was for sure.

She punched a Pider off his string.

"You really pack a punch!" exclaimed the Pider.

Luckily, Nera found out the Piders were vulnerable to fire.

It burned their strings and caused them to fall to the ground.

"I've fallen and I can't get up!" exclaimed one of the Piders.

There were also Treevils.

"It seems we're being attacked by obscure Mario enemies." noted Kiryl.

These enemies had both appeared in only one game. Though they also had appeared in remakes.

These trees fired leaves at them.

Peasley blocked the leaves with his shield.

Alena was reminded of the other kind of Treevils…which would likely appear in World 5. That was the jungle world.

There were Sworms living in the tree as well.

It seemed they had moved from the outskirts of Beanbean Castle Town to Chucklehuck Woods.

They had a habit of burrowing around, so they needed to be ready to act when they popped out.

Luckily, they left behind a trail of dirt whenever they burrowed.

So they could use that to track their movements.

Our heroes reached the top of the tree.

Wendy was waiting for them.

"How'd you make it up here? I guess I'm going to have to handle things myself!" exclaimed the only female Koopaling.

She pulled out her wand.

Our heroes got ready to fight her.

Wendy fired magic rings from her wand.

Alena punched Wendy.

"Ow!" exclaimed the Koopaling.

Ruff got snared by the magic rings.

They began to squeeze him.

"Ouch!" exclaimed the boy.

Unfortunately, Wendy's magic rings could debuff her enemies. So it wasn't only damage that they had to worry about.

In his case, he took an attack debuff.

"Aw man!" exclaimed Ruff.

Now he wouldn't hit as hard.

Peasley slashed Wendy with his sword.

But Wendy summoned some Treevils.

And no, their bark was not worse than their bite. Though they did not have teeth.

Luckily, fire worked well against the Treevils.

They were plant enemies, after all.

Wendy fired more magic rings.

Ruff headbutted Wendy.

"Ouch!" exclaimed the most feminine of the Koopalings.

She went into her shell and spun towards our heroes.

"Ow!" shouted Nera.

"I'm starting to notice a pattern involving the Koopalings." noted Alena. They all seemed to have wands…and used their shells as weapons.

Luckily, that made their attack patterns a bit more predictable.

Alena punched Wendy hard enough to knock her back a few feet.

Nera finished Wendy off with Frizzle.

Wendy threw a temper tantrum.

"No fair! How could I lose?" pouted Wendy. In her mind, she should be the one winning.

"Winning isn't everything." noted Alena.

"Are you sure about that?" asked the Koopaling with a bow. She happened to love winning.

"Trust me." answered the princess.

After defeating Wendy, our heroes returned to the Beanbean Kingdom.

The Beans were happy that they had managed to defeat three of the Koopalings.

They were also happy that they could drink Chuckola Cola again. Cork and Cask could make the soda once more now that the Bowser Baddies were gone.

But our heroes decided that they weren't done yet. The Chucklehuck Woods might be safe, but there were other places in the Beanbean Kingdom to protect.

Alena asked the Beanstar where they could find the next Koopaling.

"Iggy is headed towards Woohoo Hooniversity." said the Beanstar.

"Woohoo Hooniversity?" asked Peasley.

He knew that was where Beans studied. The smart ones. It was southeast of Beanbean Castle Town.

"What is that? It sounds like a school." noted Ruff.

"It is. If Iggy and his minions are on their way there, the school could be in danger." acknowledged Peasley.

Perhaps there was something in that school that Iggy could use to his advantage.

"We need to protect the students!" exclaimed Nera.

"I agree." nodded Kiryl. They were the heroes, after all.

"Then we have no time to lose!" shouted Peasley. The sooner they got to the school, the better.

The five of them made their way to Woohoo Hooniversity.

If nothing was done about the Bowser Baddies, Woohoo Hooniversity would become Boohoo Hooniversity.

"Wait, shouldn't we buy from the shops first?" asked Ruff.

"Good idea, but we shouldn't take too long." noted Peasley. The Bowser Baddies were most likely planning to cause chaos.

Coincidentally, the shop was selling Scholar Caps.

They were a bit out of their price range at the moment though.

So Alena decided to buy a new set of claws instead.

She bought some Cobra Claws.

These could poison her foes, so they could be useful.

Ruff bought some Steel Fangs.

Now it was time to teach the Bowser Baddies a lesson…at a school, no less.

You might be able to guess what pun I'll be using for Iggy's chapter.

I'll let you know if you guessed right.

I already used the phrase "Getting Jiggy With It.", in case you were wondering. I've written a Paper Mario fanfic featuring the Koopalings.

So I don't think I'll be using that phrase, just to let you know.

You probably remember Woohoo Hooniversity. It came right after Chucklehuck Woods…though it took a bit of walking to get there.

I thought it was a creepy level personally.

Though it got less creepy once Popple and Rookie showed up.
