Hi, so here is the sequel to Perhaps Love! I am so excited to get this out and finish Season 5-7.

So...the usual. This will not be episode specific, certain episodes will be skipped. Dialogue will not be the same. If that's something you look for in a story then please don't start because you won't get it here.

Also in my West Wing Universe Sam doesn't leave and Ainsley joins full time. Will is in the story...so far...Mandy is not and never will be. Andy had Toby's babies via embryo's not by sex. Also Jake is bisexual.

Pairings are CJ/Toby (eventually) Josh/Donna, Sam/Ainsley, Jed/Abby.

Disclaimer-Nothing but Jacob is mine.

It is advised that you read Perhaps Love before you read this.

And this is 28 chapters long.

And there will always be swearing in this story. If this offends you then please don't read.

Also I do not do Private Messaging anymore, any questions stick them in a review and I will get back to you next chapter note.

And look...I don't like Amy. I don't like her. Nothing against the actress but as a feminist, pro choice woman (and damn proud of it) she was so annoying. In Season 5 I skip her scenes because she doesn't get it. No disrespect to anyone who likes her but she was wrong for Josh and wrong for the show. Sorry, not sorry. That's just my opinion, you are of course completely entitled to yours.

Future Perfect

Chapter 8-The Profit And The Loss

Jake comes home, the government is in lockdown, Sam and Ainsley have a baby. And things go slowly back to normal.

"Wow"

"Son that was not your first time in a Presidential Motorcade"

"Was the first time in the hot seat with you Mrs B"

"Aha. Flattery my dear boy will only get you so far"

"What if I told you that you the pinnacle of female medicine?"

"Ha!" Mrs Bartlett said getting out the car like some old fifties movie star and ramming her sunglasses back on her head. "Tell me something I don't know boy"

There was a pause as Jake stood there with his bag and then he caught Declan one of Mrs B's guys eye.

"Half a day in an hour forty" he said and Declan grinned.

Fucking Secret Service Jake thought slamming the door shut.

The entire West Wing was deserted.

Wow.

Mrs B stormed out of one of the conference rooms and Jake sighed catching the door before it slung shut.

"You both okay?" he asked seeing the slightly stunned expression of both his parents.

"Yeah" his Dad said looking slightly stunned. "I think the government might be on the verge of collapse."

Jake nodded sticking his arm on the door and trying to look cool when he thought he must look ridiculous. Mrs B said confidence was sexy and to be honest she didn't look a day of thirty five so he went with what she said.

"Where's Sam?" he asked looking around. His Mom blinked and then. "Hospital, Ainsley went into labour this morning as they had a row about Hafley and the shutdown"

Jake opened his mouth and then he closed it again.

"Yeah that sounds about right for them" he said finally. Josh next to the table snorted and then stood up. Leo rolled his eyes, Angela Blake smiled at him and he smiled back. He didn't know Angela Blake that much other than she was one of the most powerful African American woman in the country and she always seemed to wear the shit out of a lot of pantsuits but he thought that she seemed nice.

"So is she…"

"Oh she's back" Jake said grinning. Leo groaned.

"Glad your back kiddo" he said with an eyeroll patting him on the arm. "Now I need a pill"

Josh frowned, winked and then followed him taking Angela with him and that left the three of them in the room.

"So" he said shutting the door behind him. "Are we gonna do this whole staring at each other awkwardly because I'm bisexual or are we…" he trailed off because at that point his mother had hugged him.

And that was enough it seemed.

"I'm glad your back" Harrison said finally that afternoon. He had come up to see Jake and they had gone to the conference room and were in the process of taking a tally as to how many times his parents would casually walk by to see what was going on. It was fun in a way, Jake found it both fun and annoying but the truth was that he was enjoying himself somewhat. His parents cared…it was better than what he could have hoped for all things considering.

"I'm glad I'm back too" he said. "New Hampshire's great and all but it's still a farm you know…not a working farm but a farm and I don't do horses all that well to be honest"

"No" Harrison drawled, "I don't do horses that well either"

There was a pause as they stared at each other and then Jake gripped his hand and then yanked him forwards so that he was kissing him. Harrison grinned and then kissed back as the door opened and—

"Boys if I wanted to see homosexual soft core gay porn with an underage twist I would call the guys at Fox" Leo drawled coming into the room. Jake jumped nearly headbutting Harrison and falling to the ground. Harrison stood up and saluted. Leo rolled his eyes as if he didn't know what on Earth he was doing here but Jake noticed his hand twitched as if it was taking all that he had not to salute back.

Take the man out of Air Force and all that Jake thought.

Harrison grinned and then.

"Your Mom is watching"

Jake sighed and then waved at her, his Mom rolled his eyes and then walked off. Jake watched her go and then.

"I feel bad, I mean I know that they are trying and all that I just…I feel bad"

"That" Harrison said easily, "Is because you are a good son. And because you are a good son you feel bad. But they will be fine. Your parents were arguably some of the coolest people out there and they accepted you the second they knew. So yeah. Don't worry about it, just means the whole secret romance thing is that it is over."

"That a good thing?"

Harrison grinned.

There wasn't more to say to that.

"Well they seem….together again"

"We need to set some ground rules" CJ said as soon as he was through the door. "We need to…I mean I don't mind you know I don't but now he's back and they are clearly out in the open we need to set some ground rules, both of us and we need to make sure that both of us stick to it and make sure he does. I am not going to have him pulling a fast one over us and booking hotel rooms like he was doing with Anna and I am certainly not going to have him use something like a campaign or a national crisis to go into an empty office and paint the walls—"

"CJ for the love of God I beg you not to finish that sentence." Toby said sitting down. The press was still rampant with the showdown between the Speaker and the President and he had a feeling that it was not going to get any better. He did not want to imagine anything else.

"We need ground rules Toby"

"I agree"

"So we…what…don't let them be in Jake's room anymore with the door closed?"

"Yeah"

"Sleepovers? God they have a lot of them don't they?"

"If we start treating Jake any differently then he is going to react just like he did when he ran to New Hampshire" Toby said looking at her. "We don't have the same rules here that we did when he was with Anna. I reckon we just,…we gotta let Jake be Jake. I don't think that they are going to do anything with either one of us in the next room—did you do anything when your Mom and Dad were in the next room"

CJ opened her mouth and then closed it again. In truth she hadn't done anything until she had gotten to college and even then it was few and far between. Her first serious relationship had been Ben and that had been when she was twenty seven. She had been all tense and scared and he had took her apart and put her back together again…and then after Ben there had been Toby and then there had been…

Carefully she did not think of John Hoynes. She did not want to think of that. That was a secret that had existed between her, the father of her child and the Vice President—well the ex—Vice President of the United States.

Toby watched her for a second and then.

"You know this is not a problem. Were making it a problem and it's making him nervous and when he's nervous he's gonna do something stupid. When he does something stupid then he is going to need us. I know what you are worried about but what we worried about, what boys like Harrison and him worried about when we were young isn't an issue here. If he chooses to have sex—" here Toby pulled a face that was all with the image of his son having sex and not who he chose to have it with. "Then we want him to come to us. And if we want him to come to us then we need him to trust us. We can set some ground rules, get educated, but we can't make this a problem. He's our son, he's smart. He's good. So's Harrison. Let it end at that. Stop letting Amy get into your head and let's move on. Best thing we can do is move on from her"

CJ nodded.

"You think maybe I should give the press a head's up?"

"Oh please—"

"I'm asking"

Toby sighed. "Maybe just mention it to Chris. She will know what to do, she more than likely will tell the others but they never went after Jake before and I don't see them doing it now the press has lived through a shooting, an MS disclosure, a targeted assassination, a re-election campaign, a kidnapping, a temporary president and shutdown. Right now one would think they all want a paid vacation—Steve was saying the other day he doesn't think that he's been home for the last three weeks. You got a good group of reporters out there. They know what's tittle tattle and what's not."

CJ nodded and there was a knock at the door. Jake dragging Harrison and then…

"We all okay?"

"Were fine, we really are" Toby said with a wink in her direction. "We are fine. But there's gonna be rules Jake. And were gonna talk…sex…"

"Oh God"

"My mom did all that." Harrison said easily. "She's a nurse—"

"Good…you think for a bottle of that peach gin she'd lecture him for us?"

"Keep Planned Parenthood away from the Republicans and she'd do it for free"

"Well…that's…hang on when was he walking to the House?"

There was a pause as everyone stared at the TV. President Bartlett was indeed walking to the House chatting with people along the way, the man who had been half gaunt walking around like a ghost since his daughter's kidnapping was gone and instead was the man that Toby had known. The one that could work the rope line like no other even as he came out of hospital to thank the people who had been praying for him (he was quite sure Ron was still not over that one) and he watched as CJ sowre and went to deal with the press hugging her son as she left.

"You okay Dad?"

Toby kept his eyes on the TV. It was not always easy for him to be emotional.

"Proud of you son"

Jake's smile that he saw out of the corner of his eye was worth it's weight in gold.

Baby Grace Isobel Haynes-Seaborn was born just as the shutdown ended. Seven pounds four ounces, perfect little blue eyed, blonde girl. When the staff of the West Wing descended later that night Josh who looked rather alarmed at being passed the baby said that it was a lucky thing that she had Ainsley's looks. Ainsley exhausted but beaming agreed. Toby thought that Sam looked stunned. Happy stunned but stunned. He remembered that feeling all too well as he watched Jake peer over at baby Grace.

Beneath the cover off everyone's happiness his hand found CJ's. There were no storms in this room, no political reality. Just friends, good friends celebrating a good moment. Leo when asked to be godfather got emotional and Abby rolling her eyes and reading Ainsley's chart to check that the staff were doing their job properly passed him a tissue. Donna taking the baby in her arms declared she wanted one and Toby saw Josh open his mouth and thought for a strange moment that Josh was gonna say okay even though they were nowhere near this point. Bonnie and Ginger came in with shakes and champagne and everyone was happy.

Toby thought that in his own way he had seen war, he had seen the brutalness of the world. Zoe's kidnapping had ripped apart some prism, some chasm that had grown with Amy outing Jake.

Now it seemed like they were getting it back. Bit by bit they were getting back to normal.

Toby looked at his friends, his family, his son…CJ…and he knew that he was going to fight like hell to keep going forwards.

After all, that was all they could do.

And there you go, I hope that you enjoyed this chapter and I will my best to bring you the next one soon.

Next Chapter-As his Mom is shadowed by a camera crew for the day, Jake finds himself on camera and get's a healthy appreciation for what his mother does.
