"He's just unconscious," Beckett said. "I think you need to move Harrington."

"I should have in the first place," Brad replied.

"I don't think that would have stopped the shot just now," Skye commented. When the others were looking at her she said, "They think the pieces are still here obviously. Though at this point they'll be targeting Harrington's house."

"Where's Mary?" Castle asked.

"I told her to stay with Fox… I'm not sure what she would be able to do but an extra person there wouldn't be bad," Skye said before Beckett was speaking to the chief.

"Did you call in the car?" she asked.

"I did," Brad said. "Wade and Emerson are out there."

Nodding, Beckett's attention turned back to Bernier who was groaning and starting to twitch and she and Brad were quick to calm him down.

"Where am I?" the officer asked, his voice thick once his eyes were open.

"Inside the entry of our vics' house," Brad told him.

"Are you in much pain?" Skye asked.

"I… sort of," Bernier said, thinking that over. "But I swear I was outside Chief."

"Don't worry, I know you wouldn't have left your post," Brad said quickly to reassure him. He then looked out the front door at the sound of sirens and said, "Can you head over to the house?"

"Just me?" Skye asked.

"No, Beckett, Castle?" Brad said before he looked at the other two.

"We'll go," Beckett said first after Darnley nodded once to her. She stood after squeezing Bernier's shoulder and walked with her husband after the investigator before she said, "What're you thinking?"

"That they're definitely going after Harrington now," Skye said.

"I think that was a given," Castle commented. "But you seem a little off."

"Yeah, that would be your vics," Skye replied, stopping in front of the front door. They were watching the ambulance pull up on the driveway and she told the pair with her, "There's something they're trying to remember."

"Shouldn't that be a lot of things?" Castle asked her.

"There's something about this house," Skye replied before she looked inside. "I think I can figure it out… I need to talk to Harrington."

"Go ahead," Beckett said.

"I'm shaking," Harrington said to Mary and Fox who were sitting with her at the kitchen table. "I… I'm not weak or anything but…"

"You've been through a lot," the officer said.

"She's right," Mary said before they were looking at the hall and Fox was standing.

"It's us," Beckett said after she'd rounded the corner from the entry.

"How's Bernier?" Fox asked.

"He was hit on the head and dragged back into the house," Castle answered.

"He woke up just before we came over here," Beckett said, glancing at her husband when Harrington covered her mouth with her hand. "But he wasn't in very much pain."

"Ms. Harrington-" Skye started to say then.

"Mia is fine," she told the investigator.

"You had Bernard and Eileen here a lot right?" Skye asked.

"Of course, we went between our homes for dinner," Harrington replied. "Why?"

"Did they ever stay the night?" Skye then inquired.

"Yes, a few times," Harrington said. She then blanched a little and asked, "Should I have told you that?" looking at Beckett.

"I didn't think of it, neither did Brad," she said to ease the woman's mind. "What about them staying here?" she asked Skye.

"When was the last time they were here?" the investigator asked.

"About two weeks ago," Harrington said a split second before her eyes widened. "They… I mean Bernard did something weird that night. It was raining really hard and they didn't want to go back so they just stayed. They had some pajamas here from the time before and they wore the clothes they had come into the house with the next day. But he was talking about needing to check the pocket of his pants and he was there for a while."

"Skye," Mary said suddenly.

"What's wrong?" Harrington asked worriedly when the investigator was leaning against the wall near the table.

"That's what they wanted to remember," Skye told her wife and Beckett when the two had hurried over to her.

"Do you need to sit?" Mary asked in concern.

Shaking her head firmly, Skye was standing up straight before she said, "No, I'm better now but I need to go to that bedroom."

Harrington was about to stand before Fox was placing her hand on her arm and she said, "At the top of the stairs go left and the first door on the left."

"Are you going with her?" Fox asked Beckett.

"I am," she said.

"So am I," Mary told the writer firmly.

"Should I stay?" Castle asked slowly.

"Could you tell Brad I'm about to find something?" Skye asked him apologetically.

"Not a problem," Castle reassured her before he was heading for the entry as they started for the stairs behind him.

"I hope you're right about their room," Beckett told the investigator while they were going up.

"They told me," Skye said with a shrug before she was first on the landing. She went directly into the bedroom, since it was so close to the staircase, and paused looking around before her wife was speaking in a little concern.

"What's wrong?" Mary asked.

"You're not taking me out of the room," Skye told her wife wryly. "I'm getting my bearings and now I know why they wanted me to come in here."

"It's not the floor of the closet is it?" Beckett asked.

"No, it's hardwood," Skye answered simply as she was entering it. "No, this is a little… trick Bernard had. Did you know that he loved the Fonz?"

"I was aware," Beckett answered since that had been directed to her. "Why?"

Touching the drawers in the closet, Skye nodded and said, "This is why," before she was hitting the bottom of the three grouped together with her fist.

"How-" Mary started to say in shock when a compartment suddenly dropped open.

"They told me where it was," Skye said simply. "Though if we need to make this official the bottom of the drawer where that compartment is was slightly bowed."

"Slightly," Beckett commented. When her friend looked at her pointedly she shrugged before she said, "What's in there they wanted you to get that badly?"

Not answering at first, Skye reached inside and was a little confused when she felt nothing but the material of the compartment before she suddenly froze. When her wife and Beckett asked what there was she shook her head before telling them, "Give me a second, it's caught."

Watching the investigator struggling a little, Beckett tried not to become impatient before she was stepping back and holding up a pouch. "The other pieces?" she asked in surprise.

"No, they split everything up," Skye replied. "We need to get this back to the station," she said firmly before she was tucking the pouch inside her jacket.

"That's the necklace," Castle said after Skye had shaken the piece out of the pouch.

"I'm wondering if you should call your mum's friend now," the investigator told him.

"I'll see where he is," Castle said with a quick nod before he got his phone and moved to the other side of the office.

"Are you bothered by the state it's in?" Skye asked the Hamptons investigators.

"I am," Brad said firmly. "The bracelet is dismantled but this isn't? Why would they have done that?"

"They didn't," Skye said firmly. "There's a reason why it's like that though… the bracelet I mean." She looked at Beckett, who was looking over the necklace and said, "What're you thinking?"

"That I hope Jinko can make it here," she replied, setting the jewelry down.

"Does this make the brooch even more important?" Darnley asked.

"Probably," Brad said before they looked at Castle since he was walking back to them.

"He's coming back from Amagansett," he told the others. "But he's coming straight here."

"Speeding?" Brad asked.

"He promised he wouldn't when I warned him to be careful," Castle related. "But he was really excited hearing two of the pieces were here."

"You guys will leave once he's done here," Brad said firmly. "It's getting late."

"What makes you think he wouldn't have something we would need to help you investigate?" Castle said.

"He's right, if there's anything you need our help for we're staying," Beckett said firmly, not surprised when Brad was frowning before he shook his head and was responding.

"I hate to keep you guys from going home but… I see I can't stop you," Brad told them. He turned to Skye and Mary and said, "You two aren't under any obligation."

"Yes we are," the investigator said, not surprised when her wife was nodding in agreement.

"Alright, then until we get to that point let's update you on the case," Brad told Skye before they were going to the murder boards.

"How do you think Harrington is?" Darnley asked since they'd stayed at the table.

"You just want to know if she and Fox are going to start anything," Beckett said as she was putting away the necklace. She couldn't help laughing when he was nodding rapidly and she said, "I didn't notice much," not surprised when her husband was clearing his throat before she looked at him pointedly until he spoke carefully.

"I did, but whether or not this is the best time to start… a relationship or anything who knows," Castle commented.

"Don't ask them," Beckett told her husband. She wasn't surprised when he merely shrugged before they were turning to the others while they walked up to the table.

"I'm really sorry to impose on you," Harrington was saying to Fox while the officer was locking the door to her apartment.

"Well, this building's a lot more secure than a safe house," Fox replied, taking off her jacket. "So it's not really an imposition. You need to be alright." Seeing the look on the woman's face she held up her hand and said, "It doesn't matter if you have anything for the case now."

"Right," Harrington replied before she looked around the main room. "That doesn't fold out does it?" seeing the small sectional.

"It doesn't," Fox said, looking through her mail. "Do you mind sharing my bed? Besides the fact you'll sleep like crap on that couch, I need to stay close just in case."

"Oh… no I don't," Harrington said, realizing the woman was right.

"Great, that makes it easier," Fox commented. "Come on I'll let you put your stuff away."

Looking around the bedroom after the officer had led her there, Harrington said, "I'll have a place for everything?"

"Did you pack much?" Fox asked her.

"No, just for the night and tomorrow," Harrington said. "I'm hoping I'll be able to go home."

"They'll do what they can," Fox said. "There's room in the closet and these drawers on the left," she told her. "I'll be outside."

Nodding Harrington turned to the room when she was alone and took a shuddering breath before she moved to begin unpacking her bag. Since there was so little she was soon after stepping back inside the living room and she said, "I've finished."

"Okay, I'll change and be right back out," Fox said, hurrying past her. "Stay away from the windows," she added over her shoulder.

Walking to the couch, Harrington paused when she spotted the table with pictures on them, smiling at one of Fox with who she assumed was her brother and a niece and nephew. She saw a few of Fox's family and was looking those over for a while before she suddenly realized something. Frowning for a moment she turned to the officer while she was stepping out of her room. "You're a Holst," she told her.

Pausing Fox said, "I am but through my mother. Her name was Holst before she married my dad."

"You became an officer?" Harrington asked slowly.

"Yeah, my parents have money… I have money," Fox said with a shrug. "So I didn't really have to do anything but I've always been interested in law enforcement. I decided after college to sign up for the Academy and found an opening here luckily."

"Your parents don't mind?" Harrington asked.

"They've passed away," Fox replied after she had tensed up for a moment. When the woman looked startled she assured her saying, "You didn't know, it was in 2009 they were on the Colgan Air plane that crashed in Clarence Center."

"I'm so sorry," Harrington said in a murmur.

"It was tough for me and my siblings," Fox said. "I'm guessing you saw this picture," she then said, picking up the one of her with her brother and sister. At the woman's nod she told her with a smile, "I'm the youngest, Neville's the oldest and Olivia's the middle kid."

"What's your name?" Harrington said with a frown. "No one's ever said, they just refer to you as Fox."

"Philippa," the officer said.

"A pretty name," Harrington murmured. "Do you go by a nickname."

Smiling briefly, Fox set down the picture she still held and said, "Not really. My ex tried to call me Pippa. Let me rephrase that," stopping and making a face. "All of my exes tried to call me Pippa. I hate that nickname."

"Then you're alright if someone calls you Philippa," Harrington told her.

"Yes," Fox replied.

"Call me Mia," Harrington told her.

Studying the woman for a moment, Fox smiled and said, "Not a problem."

"You have a niece and nephew," Harrington said, looking back at the table.

"That's Neville's daughter, Justine, and my nephew Felix is Olivia's." She smiled at her sibling in the picture before she said, "Olivia's expecting her next kid next year."

"Congratulations," Harrington said. "You like kids," she said.

"I am jealous," Fox said. She couldn't help smiling when Harrington blanched and said, "I get asked that a lot. And yeah, I'd love to have kids but I'd need to find the right…"

"Woman," Harrington finished when the officer didn't continue. "I had a feeling when I first met you."

"At least it doesn't bother you," Fox said. "Though I thought I heard you prefer women I'm not going to commit to that."

Smiling again Harrington said, "I do." She then sighed and said, "I was with Eaton one night."

"Really," Fox said, startled at that news before she turned to watch the woman sit on the end of the lounge chair her sectional had.

"A mistake," Harrington replied. "She was very drunk and I was lonely. She didn't even call me by name and explained it the next morning by saying she just wanted to dabble like she had in college."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Fox said. "You're mentioning that because you think she might be the killer," she stated.

"I do, she and Corwin are like this," Harrington replied, crossing her first two fingers together before Fox was hesitating and she spoke. "That and I hate myself for trying to go after her."

"They've been cleared," the officer explained.

"What about Corwin?" Harrington asked. When Fox was hesitating she said, "I won't tell anyone… I mean it looks like I'll be staying with you for a while."

"I'll hold you to that," Fox said. When the woman nodded she said, "He was given drugs, while he was in the hospital and escorted out so he's been cleared of everything that happened earlier today."

"Then who would do that to Bernard and Eileen?" Harrington asked in a whisper.

"They'll find out," Fox said reassuringly, instinctively placing her hand on the slightly shorter woman's shoulder. She quickly removed it when Harrington was looking at her and was about to apologize before the woman spoke first.

"It's alright," Harrington told the officer reassuringly. She was about to speak again when her stomach grumbled loud enough for them to hear and she made a face saying, "I guess I'm hungry."

"So am I," Fox replied with a smile. "I'll make us something for dinner."

Though she was going to tell the officer she didn't have to go through the trouble, Harrington realized it would be pointless watching Fox go around the peninsula of her kitchen. She moved to lean against the counter, smiling as she watched her walking from fridge to pantry, and tried not to think of her attacker finding them in the officer's cozy abode.

"Thank you for coming Jinko," Castle said to the man as he walked inside the bullpen.

"I'm grateful you asked me," he said. "I'm not very late am I?"

"No, we've been working on the case," Castle said simply before he led the jeweler over to Brad's office. "Jinko, this is Chief Davis," he said as an introduction.

Shaking the African-American man's hand Brad said, "I appreciate your help on this."

Nodding Jinko said, "I've heard of these jewels many times… if they're real I'll feel it an honor to have been able to see them." He looked ahead of them and seeing Skye said, "And to meet you."

"You know me," the investigator stated instead of asking.

"Of course, on the show and also because Martha has told me about you," Jinko answered. "I understand you were the first to see the pieces."

"Have a seat here," Brad told the man, gesturing to the table while he was walking to his safe. Since the jeweler was facing away from him he swiftly opened the door and took out the pouches before he went back, pausing in seeing the man had a bag of tools out and was putting on gloves.

"I brought it with me on the off chance you might have found one of the pieces here," Jinko explained.

Watching Brad opening the first pouch, with the bracelet, Beckett shared a glance with her husband at the dismay in the man's voice seeing the gems and metal apart. She was about to ask if that metal had been damaged when he suddenly stiffened. "Is everything okay?" she asked in surprise at his reaction.

"This is fake," Jinko said with a frown. "But I guess it's better because it was taken apart like this."

"You can tell just by looking at it," Brad said.

"Oh yes, I'll take a look with this but I can see by the light coming through the gems they're meant for costume jewelry," Jinko said, placing his loupe on his right eye and peering at one of the so-called diamonds.

"That's how Mother knows him," Castle explained to the others except for his wife since she had met the man already. "He worked in the city on Broadway."

"The best years of my life," Jinko said, pulling away the loupe. "They're fake."

"What about the metal part of the bracelet?" Skye asked. "My wife and I noticed the marks of tools there."

"It may be the original bracelet," Jinko said, holding up the gold. "But the gems were ripped out… I would say they may be sold on the black market."

"I'll see if we can check," Brad said. "Anything else?"

"Yes, the person who did this was semi-professional," Jinko added. "They were aware of how to take out the gems but not enough to keep from showing what they did."

"How big would having the complete set be?" Mary asked.

"They would nearly be priceless," Jinko said, holding up a moonstone. "Since of course it was thought the jewelry was nothing but a legend. But with this proof… you'll keep it secure right?"

"You didn't look at the other piece we found today," Brad said, moving to shake out the necklace. "But this is intact."

"Oh… this is real," Jinko breathed as he reached out with slightly shaking hands for the piece. "It's beautiful," he said before he was hurrying to place his loupe. "Yes," he said then with a nod. "This is the actual piece."

"And is it possible they're from the time period?" Beckett asked him as he continued to study the jewelry.

"It is," Jinko said. "They've been kept clean but there is a little bit of tarnish and the workmanship is… impeccable. This is from a Dutch master."

"What about the last one? The brooch," Castle said.

"That is the one I wished you would have found," Jinko said.

"Why?" Castle, Beckett and Brad asked at the same time.

"It's worth more than the other two pieces," Jinko explained. "The emeralds were rumored to be rare, from Suriname brought back during an expedition."

"There's not a… curse or something is there?" Castle asked.

"I don't know," Jinko said honestly, letting Brad put the necklace back in the pouch. When the two were being taken away he said, "But I don't think they were if nothing has been recorded concerning people being affected by them."

"It was a thought," Castle said. "Maybe-" he then started to say after thinking for a moment before a heavy sigh was sounding from the other side of the table and they turned to the McDouglases.

"Rose!" Mary suddenly cried out, grabbing her wife before Skye could collapse to the floor.
