Before I can even think to stop and warn you—

"Cheese and crackers!" you squeal as soon as your head breaks the surface. "It's freezing."

My pool heater has been on the fritz, and I keep forgetting to get it serviced.

Your teeth are chattering, and you're jumping around the shallow end to warm yourself up.

"I'm sorry."

"Why didn't you say something?"

I run my hand through my hair. "Well, if I'm being completely honest, as soon as you took your top off, I lost all train of thought."

Your blue lips form a grin, and your eyes roll. "Typical man."

I apologize again, and your smile grows. You beckon me forward with a single trembling finger. "I showed you mine. Now it's your turn, Mr. Masen. Get in here and warm me up."

I tell you about the fancy whirlpool inside, and your face goes from teasing to mischievous. You shake your head. "You need to cool down first."

"First?"

A nod and another crooked finger. "If you don't do a good enough job warming me up, I might have to take a soak."

"Yeah?"

"M-hm. And if you're lucky, I'll let you join me."

I can't get out of my clothes fast enough, and the rumors are false. Cold water doesn't always cause shrinkage.
