'The other League members never ask about my past. We were a group of twisted players only concerned about ourselves,' said Compress. 'Even so with them…'
The League were wandering through the forest when they encountered a small mansion. Inside the mansion was a cult, and they were not too happy with them barging in on their ceremony.
"Why have you entered our compound? Do you know who we are? Do you seek to join us?"
"The Creature Rejection Clan, a.k.a. the CRC," said Spinner as he drew his blade. "You bastards screw out outdated ideas discriminating against mutant types like me. Your bigots."
"They've brought a pet."
"How repulsive."
"Hold on, this is the League of Villains!"
Viggo shook his head at them. "This is why despise cult members with no imagination and are fanatically loyal. If you were told to jump off a cliff because it was the will of your leader, then you would do without question."
"Just what are you doing here?"
"We're currently a tad short on fun, so when is the market for things to sell?" said Compress as he looked at the valuables on a shelf. "Are these rare?"
"Don't touch!"
"I know, I know, burglary is the most fashionable crime," said Compress. "I wish we didn't have to resort to it."
Cult members immediately grabbed the candle stands out weapons.
"This is sacred ground!"
"Filthy criminals!"
"You'll pay for your impotence!"
One of them swung his weapon at Krogan, but he easily dodged and then placed his hand on his face, disintegrating him instantly.
"We'll leave once we have what we want," he said. "You'd be smart to stay out of our way."
The other members of the League then dropped their weapons, but that didn't stop the cult members from attacking them.
"Kill them!"
Unsurprisingly, it was rather easy for League to dispatch the cult members, leaving no one alive.
"Thought this Culty-type trash was supposed to be rich," said Twice.
"Dumb skull faces have got nothing," said Turid.
"This crap looks valuable," said Twice and then tossed it over his shoulder. "Nothing special."
"Ah, I broke it," said Turid, examining one of the tubes.
"My prosthetic arm is creaking," said Compress. "Let's have Johann get new gear."
"Great idea!" said Twice. "We have no money to pay him with."
A few weeks later, they found another hideout, but it was an improvement in the last place.
"Boss, this is no way to live," said Spinner. "How long can we keep this up?"
"As long as it takes," said Krogan. "Until we're finished."
"If we teamed up with the Dragon Hunters, we would probably be eating the finest food right now," said Compress. He then burst out laughing. "What a world. We spread fear across the country and now were reduced to a band of paupers. I feel pity for every lunatic that looked up to us."
"It has gotten worse since my brother's capture," said Viggo as he looked out the window. "If the heroes do find us, we have no way of escaping. Though I must admit, I am getting tired of squatting in these abandoned homes."
"Nothing here of any interest," said Twice as he and Turid scrummage through the place.
"Speak for yourself," said Turid as she pulled out a golden necklace, "I'm keeping this."
"Oh, it's lovely," said Twice and then scolded her, "for an old lady. Toss it."
Diablo then entered the building and rolled his eyes. "Typical. The whole gang is just sitting around. Am I the only one who's actually working to find more members?"
"All you're doing is going around burning people to death," said Twice. "Even brought back a single person?"
"Not my fault nobody is worthy," Diablo shrugged indifferently. "The streets are filled with walking trash with no ambition."
"Maybe you're just a bad judge of character," said Turid.
Diablo raised an eye at her. "Please, like you want to talk."
Spinner looked at Krogan. "So, what exactly is our top priority these days? I joined the League because I was inspired by Flightmare."
"What?" said Krogan, looking up.
"I'm a backwater town in the countryside; everyone there believed old-fashioned ideas and shunned me because of how I looked," Spinner explained. "I can't describe how hollow I felt. Then, when watching the news one night, I witnessed Flightmare's final moments. He was trying to change our antiquated society by himself. That was the first time that I realised how suffocating the country was. I sit back and do nothing and now I'm here."
"Whoa, cool," said Diablo dryly. "So you're basically an empty cosplayer."
"That's right!? I'm still completely empty!" he said, marching up to Krogan. He then grabbed him by his shirt and lifted him towards his face. "Which is why I don't understand why we're wasting time. I thought we were supposed to break the world here! Answer me, Krogan, what the hell is our goal? What are we doing?"
'Until six months ago, we were so strapped for cash that we had to worry about where our next meal would come from. We also like a unified vision, and yet how do I explain it… simply put…'
"I love being in the League of Villains… Spinner," said Compress as he was being strangled.
"Why are you talking about?" Spinner choked.
"Our boss is the key… I'll buy you time… you wake him up. Use it well. Every good show… requires teamwork… this is my duty to my bloodline. It's the reason why I'm here."
He then placed his hand on his right buttock and activated his power to gouge out that portion of his body. He coughed out some blood, but removing a portion of his flesh allowed him to get his arm free.
"Gouging my own flesh loosened the bindings," said Compress as he coughed out some bindings. He then outstretched his arm towards Spinner and Krogan. "My arm is free… and so are you!"
He then used his powers to compress Spinner and Krogan and quickly grabbed the marble he had created. He was able to free himself from the bindings and quickly made his escape.
"The League!" Speedy yelled.
"They escaped from their restraints?" said Vermillion.
"He was willing to go back far?" Glacier stared.
"Don't think you're the only ones risking your lives for a cause," said Compress as he landed on the back of Giganton. "Now, keep your eyes peeled. This will be the performance of a lifetime."
"I can't believe he used his powers to carve up his own body," said Best Jeanist shocked. "What fortitude. Still, that wound looks fatal. You will not escape."
He then began to use his powers upon Compress' clothing, trapping him in place.
"Clever," said Compress. "He's imprisoning me with my clothes, but I'm perfectly positioned with a little sleight of hand magic."
He used his powers again, pressing his hand upon his shoulder and destroying his clothing. However, in doing so, he created more wounds all over his body.
"Goodbye costume," he said.
"He got away," said Best Jeanist.
"I think it's time to make my escape as well," said Viggo.
He then suddenly shot a laser out of his eye, which revealed to be an artificial eye that he used to cut through the wires. He then fired off a pair of jets that were attached to his boots and headed straight towards Compress, who then used his powers to turn him into a marble.
"Help me, I can't move!" Sceptic yelled as he was pinned to Giganton's back. "Don't leave me!"
Compress pressed his hand around him, compressing him just like he did with the others.
"I am master when it comes to trickery and escapes," said Compress but nearly toppled over as he coughed out some more blood. "Those talents are all I need to save us from abysmal defeat."
Compress was the grandson of the phantom thief Shadow during those early days when heroes started to rise. Shadow dedicated himself to stealing from the corrupt and giving it to the poor like a modern-day Robin Hood and began to preach for social reforms.
'My son, the spirit of justice flows through our family bloodline,' said his father when he was young. 'It's our duty to expose unfairness.'
Both Hookfang and Diablo then collided their fists against one another, but Diablo's attack was far more powerful, dipping through Hookfang's attack. He began falling towards the ground, but Night Fury was able to grapple with his cables and gently lowered into the ground.
"Sorry, Snotlout, we'll dance again later," said Diablo, who then looked down at his father. "Spitelout Jorgenson hasn't suffered enough to break, and there's no point in continuing when he's knocked out. Too bad, little masterpiece."
"Diablo, quick!" Compress yelled.
Diablo quickly flew down towards him and used his powers to turn him into a marble.
"It was a good run, Shadow; though I did not cause the reform I wanted, I know who will… Krogan of the PLR and the League of Villains will change the world in my stead." He then turned and faced the remaining heroes. "I am the grandson of the Shadow Thief! His blood runs through my veins! You barely notice me, right? That was part of my grand deception. My role was saved for when it really mattered."
He then removed his mask, and it looked as if he was going to topple over at any moment. Regardless of his sorry state, he stood before them gallantly, holding a marble between his fingers.
"One must always keep an ace up their sleeve," he said.
Best Jeanist launched several cables towards him while Vermillion rushed over towards him.
"I want to get away with anything else!" Vermillion yelled.
"At last centre-stage," he said as he bowed, tossing the marble to the ground.
Then suddenly, Spinner and Krogan appeared out of thin air.
"Time for Mr Compress' spectacular once-in-a-lifetime escaped act," he said.
Meanwhile, Burnin and her forces were still battling against the Red Deaths, but the battles were really taking their toll upon them. She had just fired several spears of flames at a Red Death that resembled a worm.
However, it survived them and launched itself towards her, but a hero jumped out in front of her with a drill attached to his arm.
"I've got this one!" he said and plunged the drill into the Red Death's mouth.
However, its mouth suddenly expanded and grasped his upper half.
"No, Master Driller!" Burnin cried.
Master Driller persevered and plunged his drill into the top of the creature's mouth, destroying its brain, but this caused its jaws to clench, telling him in two.
"Monster!" Burnin roared and then charged forward with tears in her eyes, wielding a flaming spear. "You'll pay!"
Back on the battlefield, Night Fury had just placed Hookfang on the ground; he looked winded but was otherwise fine. Unfortunately, he was now reaching his limit, and it took a great deal of effort for him to keep his eyes open.
'This is bad; I'm wearing myself out,' he said as he turned towards Giganton. 'But I can't stop now; I can't let Krogan escape.'
"Admission is free," said Compress as he began dancing around as blood poured out of his wounds. "Relax and enjoy the performance…"
He was then suddenly knocked out by Vermillion. 'Don't banish me to the wings before the final curtain falls. On our way here, I saw a horde of Red Deaths. They only move upon Krogan's orders, so he must have called them sometime after he woke up. The boss spoke, but from the sound of it, he wasn't completely awake. He must regain consciousness in the League and can escape on the backs of a bioengineered chorus.
'I bought them time; after all, I am not the lead in this play—just a diversion. The rest is up to luck and my crew. I even managed to top Diablo, Viggo and Longhair away. Don't let me down, Spinner; you are the most devoted of us. I am just a supporting character, but you two are the real stars of the show.'
"Now is our chance," said Spinner's attempt to shake Kroga up. "Dammit, wake up, Krogan."
Krogan's eyes then shot wide open, and suddenly, a powerful blast sent Vermillion flying backwards. He was able to grab hold of Compress, but he could not hold his ground and was pushed far away from them.
"What's this?" said Best Jeanist.
'There is only one person who can unleash a blast like this,' said Night Fury as he looked up at Giganton. 'Don't tell me. He's… no!'
Krogan rose to his feet but then began talking in his duelled voice. "I must say Krogan has some admirable friends."
Spinners stared at him. 'His voice?'
Krogan's body was more or less healed now, but he still looked as if he was going topple over at any moment and could barely move.
"Power is drawn from the heart; the more that he embraces the pain and hatred born from his past trauma, the stronger my will becomes within this body. Long live the king, Krogan."
The Red Deaths batting the heroes then suddenly stopped, much to their confusion.
"They stopped?"
"This is our chance! We'll take them out!"
However, before they could do anything, the Red Deaths ran straight towards Giganton.
"A retreat?"
Burnin quickly took off after them. 'Same as before, they're heading for Krogan.'
"This is why the radio wave power is so crucial," said Krogan, looking at his hand. "It can be used to send long-distance signals to the Red Deaths. Though it's difficult for Krogan since he is a mere hatchling."
"What?" said Speedy as the Red Deaths ran past him.
"You're mine!" Best Jeanist yelled and used his powers to control the cables, wrapping them around them. "Fight until the end, do not give up!"
"Boss," said Spinner, looking at Krogan. "How do you want to attack them?"
"We're withdrawing," said Krogan.
"Wait? You want to run?" Spinners stared. "We can't do that. Compress is hurt bad, and Giganton is not going anywhere. Turid is supposed to be heading this way, too." He then placed a hand on his shoulder. "You're going to abandon your comrades?"
"Hold your tongue, Rex Spinson," said Krogan.
Spinner's eyes widened. "Did you just call me by my real name?" He then removed his hand from his shoulder and realised he was not talking to Krogan. "Hold on, who are you?"
"Krogan already lost this fight to Hiccup Haddock and Hellfire. He awoke before his body modifications could be completed. Unfortunately, this meant his regeneration abilities were lacking, and he was no match for the assembled heroes. That is why I came to lend my aid; the poor boy's body is in dire need of rest."
"I don't know what you're going on about; you can't run away and leave your teammates behind!" Spinner roared.
"Yes, I can. It is only fair that Krogan pays for his failures. Remember, this is all for my sake."
"The League is gathering in the same spot the Red Deaths are headed," said Best Jeanist. "Diablo is probably there, too. Do not let them escape!"
Surge unleashed a powerful surge of energy at the upcoming Red Deaths, and Speedy took off as fast as he possibly could.
"I'll finish it in a flash and get everyone to the hospital!" said Speedy. "After all, I became a hero to save people."
Vermillion ran after Krogan, phasing through Giganton's spikes. 'You won't escape!'
"Intangibility, huh?" said Krogan as he raised his hand and fired his spikes.
Vermillion was able to dodge them and clenched his fist, ready to deal the final blow. However, Krogan had also shot some spikes out of his back, which circled around and struck him in the back, knocking him out.
"I have no patience for a tax I can't predict," he said.
"Krogan!" Glacier roared as he charged towards him.
Both he and Speedy charged towards them as quickly as they could.
"Still, they swarm," said Krogan as he raised his hand.
He struck them with a powerful shockwave, which shattered Glacier's ice and bound him and Speedy back. To make matters worse, the Red Deaths were able to break out of Best Jeanist's bindings, but he was too weak to restrain them anymore.
They were now making their way towards Krogan.
"Now, time to go," said Krogan.
Night Fury grimaced; even with his armour now repaired, he was in no fit state to fight. He could barely move his arms but knew he could let Krogan escape.
'I have to stand and fight these villains, or everything with accomplished it will be for nought,' said Night Fury determinedly.
Best Jeanist fired more cables at the Red Deaths, which had grabbed both Krogan and Spinner and were now carrying them away. Krogan then saw Night Fury flying straight towards them.
"You haven't given up yet?" he said. "I say this child's tenacity is comparable to that of his father's."
He fired several spikes straight towards him, but Night Fury dodged them. He then fired a cable which wrapped itself around Krogan and began charging a plasma blast within his palm.
"The useless Hiccup Haddock," said Krogan. "Let's meet again when this body is complete."
"You better keep your mouth shut, Drago!" Night Fury roared and then fired a plasma blast.
"I'll see you soon," said Krogan and then fired off another shockwave.
The shockwave tour through the cable, snapping at and dispelling the plasma blast. It also sent Night Fury flying backwards, and he slowly began to lose consciousness.
'Krogan… you killed so many?' he said as his eyes slowly shut. 'You hurt so many; there is no way I could ever forgive you for that. But not even you deserve to have your will consumed by such a villain. In that instant, he looked as if he wanted to be safe.'
After the battle, everyone was completely worn out and collapsed to the ground. The battle was now over, but the war still raged on. Neither side had scored a decisive victory, but it was clear that the villains came out on top despite their losses. The destruction caused by Giganton, along with Diablo's recording, had seriously damaged the reputation of the heroes.
