A/N so I managed to squeek this chapter out before my trip tomorrow. I feel like I might have rushed this one a bit but I got hit by the writing bug and felt like I needed to pound out another chapter before I left. Anyways, May and Lincoln officially set out on their journey so sit back and joy the newest chapter of Pokemon Omega Loud.
After receiving their Pokedexes, Professor Birch gave the two trainers some spare Pokeballs. The duo then said goodbye to the Professor, and after a brief stop at May's house to bid farewell to her mother and brother, where May received a small amount of money for their journey, the two officially set off on their adventure. When they entered route 101, Lincoln gave May a brief lesson on how to slowly creep up on unsuspecting Pokemon in order to catch them.
May was a quick study and soon the two had managed to train up their pokemon. Mudkip learned Water Gun, Rock Smash, and Rock Throw, while Lynn the Torchic learned, Ember, Quick Attack and Flame Charge.
Currently Lincoln was having a battle with a wild Zigzagoon. As May looked on she raised her Pokedex and pointed it at the racoon pokemon.
Zigzagoon, the Tiny Racoon Pokemon, male. Zigzagoon restlessly wanders everywhere at all times. This Pokémon does so because it is very curious. It becomes interested in anything that it happens to see.
"Lynn, use Ember!" yelled Lincoln. Lynn took a deep breath and blew out a small flurry of sparkling embers. The zigzagoon tried to dodge, but several embers landed on its tail damaging it. With a grunt of pain, the raccoon pokemon ran at Lynn hitting it with a strong tackle attack. Shaking her head, the Torchic brushed off the attack as best as she could. With a look of grim determination, Lynn let out a series of smug sounding chirps. The zigzagoon gained an annoyed look and began yipping back at her.
"Wow, she's more like Lynn Jr. than I thought," thought Lincoln.
"Lynn, quit taunting it and use flame charge!" He reprimanded the Torchic.
Looking back at Lincoln with a look of slight embarrassment, Lynn nodded and turned back to the zigzagoon. Wrapping itself in flames, she rushed at the zigzagoon, bowling it over, and knocking it out. Giving a crow of victory, Lynn started to do yet another victory dance, before suddenly collapsing in exhaustion.
Walking over to the pokemon Lincoln congratulated her on a hard fought battle before promising to give her a rest at the Pokemon center. He then recalled her to her Pokeball before stretching and turning to May.
"How far are we from Oldale Town anyways?" he asked.
"Not far, probably another two to three minutes of walking." she replied.
Nodding in understanding, Lincoln clapped his hands and said, "Well let's get going then. The sooner we get our Pokemon checked out the sooner we can start making our way to Petalburg."
The two continued on their way and like May had said, they were soon passing through the entrance of Oldale Town. The duo saw the Pokemon center ahead and after dropping off their Pokemon they decided to look around town. They stopped at the PokeMart where they bought some more supplies for their trip. There Lincoln they were each given a premier ball as part of their purchase.
They continued looking around but due to how small Oldale town was they soon found themselves with nothing else to do so they returned to the Pokemon center and retrieved their Pokemon.
Unfortunately the path to Route 102 was blocked by a researcher who was staring at the ground, sketching rapidly into a sketchbook.
"You can't come through here just yet!" He said, "I've found the footprints of a very rare pokemon!"
Curiosity getting the better of them, the two trainers looked over the researcher's shoulder to see these supposedly rare Pokemon tracks.
"Um…sir?" said May, "I think those might be YOUR footprints."
"What?!" he replied, "No, no, they have to be pokemon tracks."
"Nope." said Lincoln, "Those are definitely human footprints."
The researcher looked back and forth between the tracks and the two trainers before looking at his shoes, then back at the tracks. A look of profound embarrassment crossed his face before he sheepishly stepped aside.
Heading into route 102 the two immediately noticed a few pokemon as well as a few trainers looking for a fight.
Meanwhile, back in Littleroot Town
Professor Birch was just leaving his lab for the day when he heard an odd zapping noise coming from nearby. When he turned to the noise he was shocked to see a swirling green portal open up and a small blonde girl in overalls and a red hat step through carrying a heavy looking backpack with her. On the other side of the portal stood a group of people, mostly composed of young women, with two adults standing close by. In the front of the group was a small girl with messy brown hair and glasses.
The blonde girl turned back to the portal. "Okay, so how do I find Lincoln?" she asked.
The girl with the glasses responded, "I've installed a tracking device in the watch. Just push the red button and it should be able to guide you to wherever Lincoln is. I've also added a video chat program so that we can keep in contact with each other.
"And remember sweety, be careful and as soon as you find Lincoln send us a message so we can talk to him. Hopefully he'll be willing to talk to us." said an older blonde woman, most likely the blonde girl's mother.
After saying goodbye, the portal closed and the blonde girl turned away, briefly noticing the Professor standing by with his mouth open in shock.
"Sorry about that mister," she said.
She then pushed a red button on the watch she was wearing. It began emitting a beeping sound which got stronger when she pointed it in a specific direction. With a look of determination the girl immediately headed off in that direction.
Professor Birch just stared in astonishment. So much so that it took him a moment to realize that the girl was just about to head into route 101.
"Wait! Little girl, wait!", he called, running after her.
The girl stopped and turned, looking a bit nervous.
"Can I help you mister?" she asked.
"By any chance," he began, "do you know someone named Lincoln?"
The girl's eyes widened. "You know my brother!?" she asked in excitement.
Professor Birch gave the girl a quick smile. "Your brother has been staying with me for the past year."
After introducing each other, the girl who the Professor learned was named Lana, accompanied the Professor back to his lab. While they walked, Lana kept pestering him over and over with questions about Lincoln. He answered her questions as best as he could but it was clear the girl was over excited about getting news about her brother.
When they reached the lab, the professor led her inside, and gave her a brief rundown on what her brother has been doing for the past year.
Lana expressed brief confusion when the Professor mentioned Pokemon, but after he explained what they were her eyes began to shine with wonder.
When finished, Lana got up about to leave before the Professor stopped her.
"Wait," he said, "Before you leave, you should know that it isn't safe for people to go out without pokemon to protect them."
"I don't have much of a choice," she replied. "I have to find Lincoln, no matter what."
"I know," said the Professor. "That's why I want you to take this with you."
He then reached into his coat and pulled out a pokeball.
Lana took the ball from his hand. "What am I supposed to do with this?" she asked.
"It's a pokemon for you to have to keep you safe while you look for Lincoln." he replied. "Just toss the ball into the air to release it."
With a look of excitement, Lana tossed the ball into the air where it opened with a brief flash. When the flash dissipated, a small green lizard pokemon stood in front of Lana. It looked around with a nervous look on its face before noticing the blond girl in front of it. With a squeak of fear it crouched down and covered itself with its tail.
"As you can see, she's a little bit of a scaredy-cat but will gladly leap to her trainer's defense when the need arises." said Professor Birch.
"What is it?" asked Lana
"This pokemon is called a Treecko." came the reply.
Leaning down to Treecko's level, Lana held her hand out towards the cowering pokemon.
"Hey, it's okay" she softly spoke. "I won't hurt cha, I just want to be friends."
Treecko peeked over its tail before slowly leaning toward Lana and sniffing her hand. After a few sniffs, Treecko slowly walked over to Lana and began rubbing its head against her legs.
"She likes you," said the Professor.
A few minutes later, the Professor and Lana stood at the entrance to route 101.
"By now Lincoln should be more than halfway to Petalburg City, so if you follow the path you should be able to catch up to him in a couple of hours."
"Thanks for the help, Professor," said Lana.
"It's no problem, Lana." he said, "Say hi to Lincoln for me when you catch up to him."
"You bet." she replied. With that she and Treecko started down the path, Lana determined to find her brother no matter what.
Back with Lincoln and May
After battling a few trainers, Lincoln and May decided to look around to see if there were any Pokemon they wanted to catch.
While they searched, Lincoln was soon distracted when he heard some rustling nearby. Slowly moving towards the sound, Lincoln soon spotted what looked like a light blue dome with two red horns sticking out of it. Pulling out his pokedex, Lincoln pointed it at the dome.
Ralts, the Feeling Pokemon, female. Ralts senses the emotions of people using the horns on its head. This Pokémon rarely appears before people. But when it does, it draws closer if it senses that the person has a positive disposition.
As Lincoln looked at its stats, the Ralts slowly came out of the tall grass looking at Lincoln in thought. She closed her eyes and concentrated. A few moments later, Lincoln's premier ball floated out of his backpack and flew towards the Ralts. Lincoln and May looked on in amazement as the ball tapped itself on Ralt's head, drawing the pokemon into it before shaking once and producing a locking sound, indicating it had been caught.
"Wow, Lincoln" said May, "I can't believe you caught a new Pokemon without having to battle it."
"I didn't catch anything," he replied, "I think she wanted to come with me."
He looked up Ralt's moveset and noticed something about the pokedex entry.
"Hey May," he began, "How come Ralts is a different color then what's shown on the pokedex."
"You're joking." she replied. Lincoln just looked at her in confusion. "You mean to tell me that you've been helping the professor for the past year and you don't know what shiny pokemon are!?"
"Umm no?" said Lincoln.
May then briefly explained that shiny pokemon are just like normal pokemon, just with different colors, which is very rare.
"So, I have a really rare Pokemon?" said Lincoln. With a grin on his face Lincoln turned to May and hugged her in excitement.
"That's awesome!" he cried.
May giggled at seeing how happy the boy had become. After a few more minutes the duo decided to continue on their way and before long came to the entry of Petalburg City.
Next Stop. Petalburg Gym!
A/N So with that Lana is now in Hoenn and Lincoln and May have reached Petalburg City. The next chapter won't be up until I get back from my trip but I will start writing parts of it while I'm away. In the next chapter we will be formally introduced to Norman and Wally and Lana will finally catch up to Lincoln. During this time Lana will make a new but familiar friend and Lincoln will help Wally catch his first Pokemon. Until then, I hope you all are just as eager as I am for the next chapter. See you then.
