Yugo was in awe when he saw Yuri's playroom. It was full of more toys than Yugo had ever seen. There were dolls, dollhouses, toy soldiers, stuffed animals, rocking horses, wooden toys, and tin toys of the highest quality. There were board games, card games, porcelain tea sets, books, art supplies, globes, maps, and abacuses too.
Yuri pulled Yugo over to the toys and sat him down. Before they could start playing, however, the prince heard Yugo's tummy growl loudly. Yugo didn't seem to notice, apparently too used to being hungry to realize that his tummy was being loud. Yuri frowned and waved over a servant.
"My friend is hungry! Bring us snacks!" he ordered the servant. "Some chocolates and biscuits and cookies and cake and ice cream and milk!"
The servant bowed, "Yes, your Highness!" As the servant hurried away, Yugo looked at Yuri with wide eyes. Yuri grinned at his surprise. "Have you ever had chocolate before?" Yugo shook his head and Yuri patted his blunana hair. "Chocolate is yummy! You'll see! You'll love it!"
Yugo's blue tourmaline eyes sparkled in excitement at the idea of getting to eat such a luxurious upper-class treat. The servant returned after a few minutes with a tray of the treats that Yuri had ordered her to bring. Yugo was very excited as the servant set the tray down on a little table.
Yuri dragged Yugo over to the table and sat down with him as the servant began serving them their treats. Yuri grabbed a piece of chocolate and handed it to Yugo. It had the royal family's coat of arms on the top. Yugo squealed in excitement and popped the chocolate into his mouth. It was so good! So sweet and creamy, and it melted in his mouth. "Yummy!"
"I told you so!" Yuri said proudly, taking a piece of chocolate for himself. "Chocolate is the best! What do you usually eat for snack?"
"We don't get snacks in the orphanage," Yugo admitted. Yuri's eyes widened in shock. "No snacks?! What do you eat for food?"
"We get a bowl of cabbage soup three times every day, and on Sundays we get one piece of bacon with our morning bowl and a slice of bread with our afternoon bowl and half a cup of milk with our evening bowl," Yugo told him.
Yuri was quiet for a minute, processing the information. "You guys don't get anything else? Anything else at all?" Yugo shook his head. Yuri scowled, very angry that his new friend wasn't fed well. He picked up one of the plates with a slice of rich chocolate cake on it and handed it to Yugo. "Eat. Eat, Yugo! Eat some cake!"
Yugo happily accepted the cake slice and eagerly dug in. He'd never had cake before! It was absolutely delicious! Yuri picked up a cup of milk and offered it to the peasant. "Milk goes really good with cake!"
Yugo drank some of the milk and nodded. "You're right! It's yummy!"
"Don't worry, Yugo!" Yuri said, reaching out and patting Yugo's cheek. "I won't ever let you go hungry again!"
