A/N: Happy June, my lovely readers! This is the very last part of The Power of Light! I decided to include a few deleted/extended scenes that had been floating around in my brain while I wrote this story, but didn't make the final cut. I tried to make them as exciting as possible. You'll find an alternate beginning and a few more of Finn's failed escape attempts. I hope you enjoy them.
Disclaimer: While this story is coming to an end, and I might write a sequel, I still don't own the rights to Disney or the Kingdom Keepers.
Deleted/Extended Scenes
Alternate Beginning: Finn Escapes from the Fort
The rain had started falling properly before he had even stepped foot on the mainland. His escape from the fort had been surprisingly easy…too easy, as a matter of fact. In the back of his mind, a voice was telling him it was a trap, but he didn't care.
Trap or no trap, he had to see this through.
Silently, he crept through the streets, staying in the darkness as much as possible. His heart began to beat faster with each step. It was becoming harder to see in the dark and the unforgiving storm. Lightning flashed overhead illuminating the Dark Castle.
Was it his imagination, or was someone standing there on the balcony?
He shivered at the thought, and tried to push the feeling that he was being watched out of his mind.
As he finally made his way down Main Street, the alarms sounded through the quiet park.
Then, he heard the voice of his enemy ring out in the night.
"ATTENTION ALL KINGDOM GUARDS! THE PRISONER HAS ESCAPED! FIND HIM IMMEDIATELY!"
Without wasting another second, Finn sprinted toward the station.
As he entered the building, he knew something was wrong.
The Beacon of Darkness was nowhere to be found.
Before he could even register that he had been tricked, a net was thrown over him from the train platform above.
Finn struggled to break free of the net, but the pirates were already upon him. He was forced face down on the floor and securely restrained at the wrists and ankles. As the net was removed, a gag was placed in his mouth. They dragged him upright until he sitting on his knees. One of the guards removed the hood from the cloak he wore and placed his sword at Finn's throat.
"Did ye honestly believe that it would be that easy, Finn?" Barbossa smirked.
Finn screamed an unheard insult at the pirate as Tia Dalma approached him.
"Sweet Dreams, lad!" she purred, blowing a handful of dust in his face.
Finn tried to fight the magical sleeping spell, but he was no match for the witch's power. In seconds, he was unconscious.
His dreams were filled with darkness and shadows of evil…
Finn's Many Escape Attempts…
a.Throne Room Throwdown
The pirates began dragging Finn to the restraining device, but he wasn't going to make it easy for them. With a surprising burst of strength, he managed to break free from their grip. A split second later, he was bolting towards the entrance of the throne room.
"STOP HIM! DON'T LET HIM ESCAPE!"
Overtakers were swarming him from all sides. Even with his hands bound behind his back, he somehow dodged his enemies.
But he wasn't sure how much longer he could keep this up. He still had not fully recovered from the effects of the spell nor the sedative that he had been given. He could feel his adrenaline draining by the second.
As he finally approached the entrance to the restaurant, the floor began to tremble. He skidded to a halt staring in horror as thick, prickly thorns sprouted out of the stone beneath them. Soon, every inch of the doorway was covered in thorns.
Trapped again.
Seconds later, Finn was lifted off his feet by four weasel guards. They kept a firm grip on his arms and legs as they carried him back to Hades.
The God of the Underworld chuckled in amusement as his captive was forced to his knees in front of him.
"There is no escape for you, this time, Finn," Hades taunted. "And, no one is coming to rescue you. You are mine!"
Hades nodded to the weasels who roughly pulled their prisoner over to the device. An exhausted Finn didn't have the strength to fight them.
What horrors awaited him in this room? And would he even make it out alive?
b.Failure at the Fort
Finn waited until he heard the guard unlocking his cell before he made his move. As the weasel sat the tray down, the Kingdom Keeper jumped him. To the creature's surprise Finn wrestled the spear out of his hand and used it to knock him out.
By the time the guard had come to his senses, Finn was standing face to face with the rest of his furry captors.
"Last chance, Kid," the captain growled. "Drop the weapon and return to your cell! This doesn't have to get ugly."
"Yeah, I think I will pass on that, thanks!"
Finn raised his spear higher in warning as the guards slowly advanced. He really didn't have time for this.
Suddenly, he was being grabbed from behind. The weasel he had left back in the cell had come to, and from the sound of things, he had brought friends.
Note to self: when escaping from a dungeon, always lock the door!
Five weasels were now attempting to subdue their prisoner. The spear was snatched away from him as Finn was pinned face down on the floor.
His last conscious thought was being restrained before he too was knocked out by the same spear he had used moments before.
As the world went black, he heard the captain speaking to his lieutenant.
"Post guards at his cell and keep him restrained. Lord Hades will deal with him in the morning."
c.Dead Keepers Tell No Tales
"Search everywhere! He's around here someplace!"
Finn kept his head down as he crawled between the sets in the fake square. He could hear Captain Barbossa and the guards coming closer with each passing second. It was only a matter of time before they would discover him.
Just an hour ago, he had been awakened from his cell by the weasels. They had restrained his hands in front of him and dragged him from the fort to bring him to the Dark Castle. Finn had pretended to be senseless from the bump on his head he had received the night before. Upon reaching the mainland, he suddenly fell to the ground in a dead faint. This had caused the weasels great concern. If the prisoner died in their care, Hades would have them turned into fur coats.
As they knelt to check on Finn, the teen did a somersault and knocked his captors to the pavement. Before the creatures could recover, Finn was on his feet and running towards Adventureland.
He slipped into the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and ran through the darkness with his pursuers hot on his tail. The alarms were muffled as he reached the empty loading dock of the ride.
Finn crept along the edges of the ride scenes, being careful to stay out of the water. He wasn't really in the mood for a swim. A few moments later, he had reached the town square scene.
And he wasn't alone.
"Why is the rum always gone?" Jack Sparrow wondered aloud.
The pirate was searching in every barrel and corner he could reach for his prize. It was several seconds before he even realized that Finn was there.
"You there, Boy! You wouldn't happen to have any rum on you, by chance?"
"Shh! Quiet, Jack! Are you trying to get me killed?" a very annoyed Finn replied. "And in case you haven't noticed, my hands are shackled. Kind of hard to carry anything, you know?"
Jack looked at the teen in confusion.
"You in some kind of trouble?"
"No, not at all! I love being tied up and running from the guards! This is a typical Saturday morning for me! Why watch cartoons when you can play tag with the Kingdom Guard?"
If Jack had noticed Finn's sarcasm, he didn't show it. Instead, he pulled a small hammer from a pile of junk nearby and approached Finn.
"Let's see if we can change that."
It took a few agonizing minutes, but soon Finn's hands were free once more. He nodded his thanks at Jack as the pirate continued his search for a bottle of rum.
In the distance, there came the unmistakable sound of pirates and weasels heading in their direction.
"Time to hide, Boy!"
Finn didn't need to be told twice. He quickly ran up the steps of one of the fake buildings and hid behind some wooden crates.
Two minutes later, Captain Barbossa and the guards arrived on the scene.
"Ah, good morning, Hector! Care to share a bottle?" Jack asked, holding up the rum he had found.
"I'm in no mood for yer, games, Sparrow! Where's Finn Whitman?"
"I'm sorry, who? Never heard of him!"
The old pirate glared at him suspiciously, then turned to his men.
"Find the boy."
The guards quickly spread out and began their search. Finn felt his heart beating in his chest as they made their way towards his hiding place.
There was a Cast Members Only door less than 10 feet away from where he was hiding. If he could reach it, maybe he could escape.
Slowly and carefully, he crawled on his belly towards the door. Every second seemed to last an eternity.
"Any sign of him?"
"Nothing yet, sir!"
Finn was just a few inches away from the door when the first pirate appeared in front of him.
"I'VE FOUND THE BOY!"
Jack watched helplessly as the guards dragged their captive down the stairs. Finn's arms were shackled behind his back and a gag was in his mouth. The boy was fighting back as hard as he could, but he couldn't break free from the pirates.
"Take him to the Dark Castle. Make sure he doesn't escape again."
d.Escaped Prisoners Come Out Tortured
Finn wasn't sure how he had escaped the castle dungeons so easily, but he knew his luck couldn't last for long. The guards had already sounded the alarms and reinforcements would be on their way soon. He had to act quickly.
He had somehow managed to sneak into a backstage area where some of the Kingdom Guards were supervising supplies being loaded onto trucks. That was his way out, but he needed a plan.
Finn was hiding in perfect shadow behind large bags of flour. All around him he could see large boxes of fruits and vegetables being prepared for transport. Mother Gothel was checking them off on a clipboard as they were loaded on the truck.
Wasting no more time, Finn jumped into a crate of bananas the moment Gothel's back was turned. He covered himself with the fruit until he was completely buried. Then, he waited.
A moment later, he felt the crate being lifted and placed on the truck. He had no idea where the vehicle was headed or what his plan was going to be once they reached their destination. But at the moment, he didn't care.
All he knew was that he had to get as far away as he possibly could.
The journey lasted for about 20 minutes. Finn could hear the guards in the front seat laughing about something. He prayed that he would have no problems getting away when the truck finally stopped.
It was another 10 minutes before the supplies were completely unloaded. Once Finn was sure that there were no Overtakers around, he quietly slipped out from his hiding place.
EPCOT hadn't changed much since the curse, at least from what he could see. Spaceship Earth's iconic golf ball was glowing an eerie green, but the rest of the park seemed relatively normal.
The problem he now faced was the lack of places to hide. There weren't very many shadowed places in the park to creep in. He felt exposed and vulnerable out in the open.
As he left the kitchen of the restaurant near the park entrance, he heard the sound of guards heading his way.
"ALL SQUADS BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR FINN WHITMAN! IF FOUND, HE IS TO BE CAPTURED ALIVE AND UNHARMED! REPEAT: DO NOT HARM HIM!"
Finn let out a quiet groan. This was not going to be easy.
He stayed hidden in the bushes until the last of the guards disappeared around the corner. He knew that he wouldn't remain unseen for long without some kind of disguise.
As fast as he could, Finn sprinted into the gift shop nearby. No one seemed to be working at the cash register, but he could hear the movement of boxes coming from the back room.
Wasting no more time, Finn grabbed a large hoodie and hat from a display, put them on, and ran out the door. The security alarms went off immediately, making him curse under his breath.
Seconds later, he heard more guards heading in his direction.
Not good!
Breathing hard, and trying not to panic, the teen dove behind a popcorn cart.
The guards began searching only a few meters away.
"Are you sure it was the kid?", one of them was saying.
"Who else could have set off the alarms? He's around here somewhere!"
"Fan out, and set weapons to 'stun'," a third guard was saying. "He can't be too far."
As the Stormtroopers began canvasing the area, Finn looked around for a way to escape. What were Stormtroopers doing in EPCOT? Shouldn't they be at Hollywood Studios?
There was no time to worry about logistics now. The troopers were coming closer every second.
Without a second thought, Finn emerged from his hiding place and ran towards the west side of Future World. The sight and sound of blaster fire around him told him that he had been spotted. Luckily, Stormtroopers don't always have the best aim.
Finn was so focused on getting away from his pursuers that he wasn't paying attention to where he was going. As he finally reached the west side, a terrible sight greeted him.
The Evil Queen, Jafar, Maleficent, and at least thirty Green Army Men stood blocking his way out. He slowly turned around to go back the way he had come, only to find that the Stormtroopers had finally caught up. Both sides had their weapons pointed at him, daring him to make any sudden moves.
"Hold your fire!"
Maleficent slowly walked towards Finn, a cruel smile on her face.
"Well, well, well," she said in a cold voice. "Once again, the cat catches the mouse!"
Finn remained silent, though his heart was pounding in his chest. There were too many of them to fight. Hades was probably deciding how to punish him at this very moment.
Maleficent was circling her captive like a hungry lion catching its prey. Finn didn't like the way she was looking at him.
Before he could move away from the Mistress of Evil, he was being forced to his knees by two Stormtroopers. His wrists were quickly restrained behind his back as he continued to be held at gunpoint. He stared up at the witch with a defiant look in his eyes.
"You won't kill me. You need me alive for the curse to work."
His captor smiled even wider.
"My dear sweet child, who said anything about killing you?"
Suddenly, Finn felt the restraints on his wrists grow hotter, as if they were made of fire. He could hear himself screaming in pain as the sensation spread all over his body. Two additional Stormtroopers held him firmly on the ground until the spell ended a few moments later.
An exhausted Finn collapsed face first on the pavement, trying to stay conscious. Almost immediately, the guards were forcing him upright again until he was looking Maleficent straight in the face.
"Foolish boy. You still haven't learned your lesson. It is pointless to resist. Surrender, and your suffering will end. Refuse, and we will show you what true suffering can be!"
Finn glared at her and tried to throw the guards off him.
"I will never stop fighting! Do your worse!"
There was a stick of a syringe needle in the side of his neck, and everything went black.
Devil's Ultimatum
Finn awoke to find himself lying on a green carpet in a dimly lit circular room. His hands and feet were chained to a peg on the floor behind him. Slowly, he pulled himself into a sitting position and tried to get his bearings.
It was the Stretching Room in the Haunted Mansion.
Finn groaned. The Overtakers had chosen the perfect cell for him this time. Even if he could go "All Clear" and free himself from his chains, it would take forever for him to find a way to open the door.
"Ah, awake at last!"
Finn shut his eyes tightly against the sudden brightness in the room. As his vision slowly adjusted, he could see Hades approaching him from the shadows.
The teen tried to stand, but his feet were bound together by the chains. All he could do was stare up into the face of his enemy.
"Have you reconsidered my generous offer, Finn?"
Finn glared back in hatred.
"Ever read a dictionary? Do me a favor: look up what the word, "no" means! You'll find your answer."
He had expected Hades to be furious, but to his surprise, the god just chuckled.
"I thought you might say that. Perhaps a little motivation is order. Captain!"
Captain Barbossa appeared from behind Hades.
"Orders, My Lord?"
"The other Kingdom Keepers…. bring them to me! I want them alive and unharmed. We'll see how our little hero cooperates when he watches his friends die!"
"NO!"
Finn began to struggle against his chains, but suddenly found himself grabbed from behind by two weasels. A sword was placed at his throat, and he stopped struggling.
Hades grinned in triumph.
"Please," Finn begged, "don't hurt them. You have me; I'm the one you want!"
"Hmmm," the Dark Lord pondered, "that is an excellent point, my young friend. I have no intention on harming your little pals. But, you must do one tiny thing for me in return. Surrender to me completely and willingly, and they will be spared. Refuse, and their deaths will be slow and painful. Choose wisely, Boy! I would hate to have to resort to violence!"
"LEAVE THEM ALONE, YOU MONSTER!"
Hades turned and left the Stretching Room, ignoring Finn's pleas.
Finn watched as the hidden panel closed behind his captor. The weasels tightened his chains before finally releasing him and taking their positions along the wall.
Defeated, and left with no hope of escape, Finn cried himself to sleep.
Unbeknownst to the young Kingdom Keeper, at that very moment, his friends were safely hidden in a secret underground room.
The first meeting of the resistance had begun…
The Resistance Fights Back
While Finn was silently attempting to escape from his cell, outside, the Dark Castle was under attack. Weasels, pirates, and the rest of the Kingdom Guard stormed the various areas of the Kingdom of Darkness, only to find no trace of the enemy.
Meanwhile, in a secret Resistance base, Merlin was peering into a crystal ball watching the scene.
The plan was going surprisingly well so far. Weeks of careful planning and preparation had led to this moment. The only way to free Amanda and the other people who had been arrested was to make sure that the Overtakers were all in one spot.
The less witnesses there were, the better chance they had of success. Perhaps, if all went as planned, their triumph could lead to an even bigger victory.
As he watched the resistance forces appear and disappear through magical portals, he signaled to Mickey.
"It's time! Prepare to storm the prison!"
The abandoned Discovery Island was a genius location for the Overtakers' prison. Hidden and only reachable by boat, it was no wonder why it was thought to be impenetrable. No one would ever be able to attack without being seen.
Until tonight.
As the attack raged on, dozens of magic portals appeared inside the cells of the prisoners. One by one, they each stepped through to the other side before vanishing without a trace.
Amanda had been sitting on her bed deep in thought. Although she didn't have the same type of visions as Jess, she had been having the same dream night after night about a group of teens fighting against the regime. Most of the people in her dreams had all been accounted for as they were members of the resistance.
There was one other boy, however, who had yet to show his face. No one knew who he could be or why Amanda kept dreaming about him. But they sensed that he was somehow connected to everything that had been going on lately. Whoever he was, he was important. Perhaps, if they could find him, he would be able to explain why these strange things were happening.
When Jess appeared through the portal in her sister's cell, Amanda leapt off the bed and grabbed her hand. In an instant, the girls and the portal were gone.
Five minutes later, the prison guard was changed.
The only thing they found was an empty prison.
A/N: And, the curtain falls on another thrilling Kingdom Keepers adventure! What did you think? All comments and reviews are welcome, but please be constructive and courteous. This has been one of my favorite stories to write as an author since I began writing fanfiction. I have a few ideas for a possible sequel, (the very last chapter hinted at one), but we will see how everything goes. At least the school year will be over as of next week, so I will have lots of free time to relax this summer. Please don't forget to leave a review and leave a like if you enjoyed this story.
Until next time, Happy Reading!
Love, Mickeygirl20 :)
