For Bad Things Happen Bingo: "Sunburn" Jay's made Kai angry, so the fire ninja does something a bit more... extreme in revenge than expected.

One fine morning, while the city of Ninjago was oddly in peace and currently in no need of protection, the ninja had decided to celebrate by going to the beach. Half an hour before it was time to leave, all of the ninja were fantasising about what they were going to do there, except Kai. Kai was angry at what Jay had done to him yesterday.

Kai and Jay were watching a horror movie alone at night. Kai was enjoying it, it was a fun movie, though not very scary, but on the contrary, Jay's mind was screaming at him to go to bed instead of getting nightmares of the horrific creatures in the film, both which had already come and which were yet to. But he didn't want to look like a wimp.

As Kai took another handful of chips from the bowl in between the two ninja, another demon popped up on the screen, which would have left Kai unfazed if it wasn't for Jay screaming and shooting out lightning in fear… accidentally striking the fire ninja's right hand with it.

"It might leave a small scar, but I've treated the wound. You should be fine," Zane had told the fuming ninja. He didn't want a scar. He just wanted revenge on Jay.

And that was exactly what he was doing. He was plotting his revenge on Jay. He wanted him to feel the pain he felt the previous night.

What could go wrong at the beach? Kai thought. Someone could drown, but that's life threatening. One could be left buried in the sand, but it's not a big deal. Wait– people can get sunburn at the beach if they stay out for too long or don't wear sunscreen– that's it! All I need to do is make sure Jay doesn't put on his sunscreen. But how…?

Kai had an idea. He had to act fast, however, because Jay would be getting ready any minute now. He darted to Nya's room, and rummaged through her drawers. It didn't take him long to find what he was looking for– a bottle of lotion. Similarly, he opened Jay's drawers in search of his sunscreen, which he eventually found.

Hiding in the bathroom, he slowly drained the contents of the sunscreen bottle into the sink and washed off any of it that was still stuck, removing all evidence. Then, he poured Nya's lotion into Jay's empty bottle. Now nobody would suspect anything– Nya probably wouldn't be using lotion before diving into the water, and it wasn't like she had memorised the amount of it she had left.

He put both the bottles back from where he found them and went back to getting ready for the trip. He couldn't wait for Jay's skin to turn red. He wouldn't know what hit him.

Soon enough, it was time to leave. Under normal circumstances, Kai would be looking forward to playing in the sand or worrying about drowning. Today, however, the only thing on his mind was Jay's impending doom. He was quiet on the way to the beach, hoping nobody thought he was acting strange.

As soon as they had reached the beach, the ninja put on their sunscreen. Everyone had brought their own, so only Jay would fall victim to Kai's crime.

The day passed normally, but Kai noticed Jay's discomfort as they ate food.

"Is everything okay, Jay?" Kai asked. Why don't you tell everyone of your suffering?

"Yeah, I just… my skin is burning…"

"Maybe you didn't put on enough sunscreen," Kai responded.

"I guess…"

Obviously though, a few minutes later Jay was still burning. He was practically a tomato now. A sweaty tomato.

"I feel dizzy…" he said before leaning on a giant rock for support.

"Jay! Put on someone else's sunscreen!" Nya commanded. "You know what, we're going home."

The ride home was basically torture for Jay. He couldn't focus on anything because his skin was killing him. It was enough to bring a laugh out of Kai.

"What happened?" he asked. "Couldn't handle the heat?"

"Kai!" Nya scolded. "Jay is suffering. What is wrong with you?"

"Nothing. Sorry."

"You've been acting really strange lately, Kai," Cole remarked. "Bad stuff happens to us all the time. Stuff way worse than this. What's so particularly funny today?"

"Oh, it's just that Jay looks funny. He looks like a tomato."

"Did you laugh those times we were drenched in blood? Did we look like tomatoes back then?"

"N-no… but this isn't that serious!"

"Yes it is, Kai. Jay could have had a heatstroke. How can you not see that?"

"Guys I'm sorry, okay? I made a joke, when I shouldn't have."

Everyone was quiet after that. Soon, the ninja had reached the monastery and Jay laid down on his bed. The room was kept at a cool temperature for his comfort.

"Jay, are you sure you put on your sunscreen?" Zane asked. "My scans do not show any problem in your body that could have caused it."

"Yes, I put it on twice!"

"May I see your sunscreen then?"

Kai, upon overhearing that, got a heart attack. Now they'll know someone messed up with his sunscreen. I need to make sure they don't suspect me.

Meanwhile, Zane was scanning Jay's so-called sunscreen. "Jay, this is regular lotion," he concluded. "Someone sabotaged your sunscreen."

Cole barged into the room. "Who did this?"

"Nya took the bottle of sunscreen and smelt it. "It smells a bit like my lotion." She ran off to her room and came back with the bottle Kai had taken out the lotion from. Kai used it as an opportunity to pin the blame on her.

"Nya? How could you!"

"Kai, how could you blame me?"

"I'll tell you why," Zane interjected, his eyes scanning both bottles. "Kai's fingerprints are on both containers."

"So that's why he was laughing!"

"Kai!"

"What? He struck me with lightning just yesterday!"

"So that's your excuse for burning Jay in the sun?"

"Don't make it sound more cruel than it actually is!"

"ENOUGH!" Wu's voice silenced everyone else's. "What happened?"

It took about five minutes for all the ninja to narrate what Jay and Kai had done to each other, and the latter doing his best to stop them from exaggerating the story.

Wu nodded, understanding the situation. "Kai, what Jay did was an accident, so it doesn't allow you to do what you had done. So, as punishment, you'll be training for a week straight under my supervision, and no videogames will be allowed for you in that period of time."

"Oh, come on!" Kai wasn't happy that his actions weren't justified. Looking at Jay, the red-skinned blob dressed in blue, lying on his bed, he charged towards him and punched him in the guts, earning a gasp from him.

"Make that two weeks."

"ARGHHHH!"
