A/N: Wrapping this up soon. Thanks for sticking with me. :)
Chapter 31
J'onn and Nia watched as Mary was transported to the medical facilities in the ARGUS building. It had taken quite a long time to root around and find the Mary they'd been looking for. She was still in there and J'onn was able to break the hold that Enigma held on the Gothamite with Nia's help. The Martian was glad to have his young friend with him. There was no way he could have done it alone.
"You think she'll be ok?" Nia asked. She collapsed into the seat at the interrogation table. J'onn took one of the other seats. Both of them were exhausted.
"I honestly have no idea but we freed her. Even if it takes her a long while to get back to the Mary we knew, she was still in there. Her fight and drive will be there too," J'onn was trying to stay positive.
"You cured her mental block. You didn't address what formed that block in the first place. Not that you could. The only person who can do that is Mary herself. The more important thing is that Kate will have her sister back. That in and of itself is a victory," Nyssa spoke up. She'd stayed with them; in case something went sideways.
"Let us hope you can help Agent Smith when he stabilizes," Lyla walked into the room.
"He didn't have any deep-seated issues so I would think it'd be easier once the antidote is administered," J'onn said.
"Oh, he had one deep seated issue," Nyssa chuckled. The others in the room gave her a look.
"Oh, come on. You can't tell me you didn't notice," she said. Of everyone in the room, she figured she would have been the last to have figured it out. Then Nia chuckled – she figured it out.
"The deep-seated issue that happens to be part Amazon," the human-Naltorian hybrid kept chuckling.
"Bingo," Nyssa concurred.
"Seriously?" Lyla was the one that was most out of the loop.
"Well think about it. Marie couldn't reach her sister. Kara was in Gotham. Those being her two closest friends, she still had options for the group at the Tower. It's not like she didn't know J'onn. Yet she reaches out to a former DEO agent. Said agent drops what he's doing and goes to her aid. He, too, could have reached out to the Tower but he did not. What does that scream to you?" The former leader of the League of Assassins asked.
"We didn't see any evidence at their apartments though. My guess is that Marie was too afraid to do something that would compromise the Amazons. She kept it so secret that even Diana didn't know," Nia said.
"And I thought my Assassins were loyal," Nyssa said. Lyla's phone broke the moment and she quickly answered it. The look on her face spoke volumes.
"You've done all you can do. Return to base. I'll send the others your way," with that the phone call ended.
"What's up?" J'onn asked.
"Kara and M'gann didn't find anything at the old Army Base. If someone had raided it there was no evidence of it. Trying to track that down will be tough so they're going to meet you guys at the Tower. I'm not sure where we go from here, but I'm going to make sure that we get alerts to all the agencies. We'll make it hard for Enigma to come out of whatever hole she's crawled into. First, I'm off to call the local news stations," Lyla winked.
"Let me reach out to my contacts. A few of them still know what corners of the world that these crazies may try and get to," Nyssa offered.
"Glad you're on our side," Lyla chuckled as she exited the interrogation room.
"Well ladies, let's go home," J'onn smiled slightly. He was happy to have helped Mary but he still worried about Agent Smith and he wanted to make sure that Marie was well and truly free of Enigma's spell.
