Snippet 46- Viva la CPU Revolution! (Part 2)
*One month later...*
"So here's the situation, Lady Vert," the army general said they along with a few other officers were gathered around a table with a map of Lean Island rolled out. "While we've liberated a good portion of southern Lean Island, thanks in no small part to your help, both directly and indirectly, we've run into a brick wall up north- almost literally." Pointing to an area 1/3 of the way down from the north coast, the general took a marker and drew a straight line across a certain section... "It's a defensive garrison led by General Cornwallis, that everyone calls 'The Wall'... built from very thick, very hard stone, with triple-reinforced gates and several men armed with gatling guns along the top. Not only is 'King' George's castle beyond here, but so are a good number of factories that could be converted to produce video games and consoles..."
"I see..." Vert nodded, in her normal form, wearing a green business suit and skirt. "So I assume once we get past this obstacle, the path to total victory will be clear..."
"More or less, though George will likely fight to the bitter end... Is something wrong, Lady Vert?" the general asked, noting the look of discomfort on her face.
"Oh, it's just... this suit is too tight in the chest...!" Vert grunted as she reached up and undid the first button on her undershirt... then another, taking a breath, and apparently dissatisfied, yet another button, exposing a good amount of her cleavage. "I think I'm going to need commission a tailor to make an outfit that can actually accommodate my bust..."
"You don't say..." the general grunted as he tried not to look... and failed miserably, several officers doing the same.
At this, Vert smiled slyly, before saying, "Now, while I don't really mind you staring, aren't some of you already married?"
"Sorry!" the men in the room said in un-synched unison, lowering their heads as they flushed with mild shame...
*At The Wall...*
"...Yes, I hear you, Boss," said General Cornwallis over the secure phone line. "Don't worry, no one has ever breached 'The Wall' before, and there's no way this damn broad will! What can one woman do?!"
As if to answer his boast, there was suddenly the sound of several explosions! "What the hell?! Hold on, I'll call you back!" He promptly hung up, putting on his hat as rushed to the doors outside, nearly colliding with one of his subordinates as they rushed in! "What's going on, Lieutenant?!"
"Sir! It's the CPU Green Heart! She literally came out of the sky and started blasting our mounted guns!" the lieutenant reported.
"What?!" Cornwallis pushed past him and through the doors, looking up in the sky... and there she was, firing pointed projectiles from the tip of her spear, which careened down and blasted apart the mounted gatling guns, sending their operators falling off and to the ground below! "She- she can FLY?!"
"I guess so, sir! What do we do?!" the lieutenant fretted.
"Have the platoon get in defensive formations! And tell them not to waste ammo firing into the sky unless they're certain they have a clear shot at her!" Cornwallis ordered, his subordinate saluting and running off...
Back with Green Heart, she descended to the ground as the rebel army ran up, the commanding officers dressed in bright green uniforms. "Nice work, Lady Green Heart... but how will we bust through the gate? Even our heaviest battering ram wouldn't leave a scratch!"
"Hmm..." the goddess thought. (My HDD is close to running out... if I'm going to do this, it's going to have to be in one shot...) "Everyone, please stand back," she politely requested as she floated toward the gate in question. Holding out her spear, she closed her eyes and concentrated... a circular rune materialized next to her, the goddess calling out, "Sylhet... Spear!" A massive lance erupted from the rune, nailing the gate dead on and breaching it, the doors splitting open! Said lance then broke up into rubble and vanished, Vert falling to a knee as she reverted to human form.
"She did it! The Wall is broken!" one of the officers gasped.
"Are you all right, Lady Vert?" the general said, crouching down beside her.
"Don't worry about me... just tired out," Vert sighed. Taking a deep breath, she threw out her hand and cried, "Charge, men!" The soldiers roared as one, breaking into a run as they began to stream through the broken gate...
"This can't be happening!" General Cornwallis clutched his hat in disbelief. "She breached the gate with one strike?!" Turning his attention to his soldiers, he screamed, "Fire! Fire! Don't let any of them through!" and fire they did, a few rebel soldiers dropping, but many more running in to take their place! The general realized the strategy, yelling, "It's a blitzkrieg! Fall back! Don't let them overrun-"
But then, a bullet from a rebel's gun found purchase in his skull, Cornwallis toppling off his high place to the ground below. If the shot didn't kill him, his neck snapping upon impact certainly finished the job.
"General!" "General Cornwallis has fallen!" "What do we do?!" the enemy soldiers cried in panic.
(The general is dead?!) the lieutenant from earlier thought. (It's over...!) Aloud he yelled, "Men, lay down your arms! We're surrendering!"
The rebel general, upon seeing the enemy starting to drop their guns, called out, "Cease fire, cease fire! The enemy is surrendering!" Soon the sound of gunfire died out, the rebels surrounding Cornwallis' troops, who kept their hands raised in submission.
Realizing the battle was over, Vert walked up to the general's side. "All right, confiscate their weapons. If there are any in the enemy ranks who are clearly elderly, have them released and sent home to their families, but detain the rest."
"As you command, Lady Vert!" the general bowed his head in obedience, before turning to relay the order to the other officers.
*Later that night...*
The enemy lieutenant walked up to Vert and her general to formalize his surrender, taking his sheathed sword, and holding it out to them hilt-first. "Lady Vert. King George had said that you were a charlatan, fooling the people with parlor tricks to convince them you were a goddess... but I have seen the truth with my own eyes. You are truly the CPU that the rebels claim you to be. Please forgive this foolish young man for doubting you."
"I hereby accept your apology, and your surrender," Vert nodded. "General, if you would." The general walked up and took the sword from the enemy lieutenant, who promptly kneeled and bowed his head to Vert. "Given that you are a ranking officer, you will have to be detained, and tried in a court of law for your crimes... but if the rank and file promise not to oppose me again, I will allow them to go home to their families, as I did with your elderly earlier. Is this acceptable?"
"...You are too kind, Lady Vert," the lieutenant lifted his head up. "I accept your terms, and submit to the mercy of the court."
"So be it then." With a nod, two rebel soldiers marched up, pulling the lieutenant to his feet and cuffing his hands behind his back, before leading him off.
After he was gone, the general said, "We've won a great victory today, Lady Vert... but I fear the hardest fight is yet to come. George will never surrender his throne voluntarily..."
"So I have heard," Vert noted grimly. "But until he is brought to justice, Leanbox will never know peace... but we should focus on capturing the factories first, so that when George is finally toppled we can get right to work producing new consoles and games for the people to play at home..."
"Right. Then tomorrow we'll meet with the other generals on the best course of action to take, that will hopefully result in as little bloodshed as possible..."
*To be continued...*
