Narrator's POV
Location: Sikowitz's Classroom
Date: Saturday March 28th 2012
Time: 11:37PM
Within the next fifteen minutes of the students leaving the gym, the first film had been chosen, and the movie binge started off with the rom-com 'Just Go With It', as chosen by Tori.
Pretty much all of the kids had changed into pyjamas or loungewear and wrapped themselves in blankets, leisurely enjoying as they snacked on popcorn and other treats that Sikowitz had laid out for them in the blackbox.
As the rom-com came to an end, it was time for the next film to start. Luckily, Sikowitz had a rather vast range of movies for the gang to choose from online. Along with this, he also owned a substantial amount of DVD's, giving the gang a chance to explore the somewhat older movies, in contrast to the newest cinematic works.
Following up Tori's movie was the fairly old action film, 'Die Hard' per the request of Beck and Andre.
After that came Cat's choice; the movie adaptation of the musical 'Hairspray'. Once the redhead pressed 'play' on the remote, chaos begun to ensue.
Being performing arts students, and more specifically, being theatre kids, meant that naturally, whenever the opportunity for a sing-off presented itself, it'd almost be a sin as to not rise to the challenge.
So when the movie began with the first few notes of the opening number, and a group of random students declared a sing-off, how could anybody say no?
"GUYS VERSUS GIRLS: SING-OFF!"
Immediately, the kids all grouped themselves up, the boys huddled together on the left side of the theatre, and the girls on the right.
"Oh, oh, oh
Woke up today
Feeling the way I always do..." the girls sung along with the movie, blending their voices into a perfect harmony. Many of them were dancing and pulling faces at the boys, in order to throw them off their game.
"Oh, oh, oh
Hungry for something
That I can't eat..." the boys belted back, throwing popcorn at the girls who had been making dumb faces at them, coaxing a series of deafening squeaks and laughter out of them.
The ninety minutes that followed were arguably the most fun that anybody'd had all day.
Eventually, the credits of the musical movie appeared and everybody begun to come down from their competitive highs, after which came the last film of the night, 'The Scissoring'; a horror chosen of course, by none other than Jade.
The next hour and a half consisted of the majority of teens cowering behind their blankets, with some attempting to sneak out of the room.
It was safe to say that by the time the blood-soaked credits of The Scissoring came dripping down the screen, all the students were either exhausted, scarred, or a mix of both.
Noticing the time, Tori shakily got up from her seat on the floor, wrapping her blanket around herself like a cape before approaching the gang. Meanwhile, the rest of the students began to disperse to wherever they had set up their sleeping quarters.
"Hey guys? I don't know about you, but I'm pretty wiped. Shall we call it a night?" the brunette asked, letting out a gentle yawn.
"Uh..sure. I guess we'll see you girls tomorrow then." Andre nodded, giving Tori a side hug before the four girls left.
The girls all sleepily trudged to Sikowitz's classroom. Upon arrival, they found the room mostly empty, and their bags and makeshift beds were just as they'd left them in the morning.
"Well, I'm gonna go change and then I'm moving my stuff to the gym." Trina stated.
"Wait, why?" asked Cat, looking up at the older Vega.
"Because it's closer to the bathroom...duh?!" Trina replied mockingly, as if it was the most obvious answer in the world.
"Thank God, now we don't have to deal with you snoring your fucking ass off the whole night." the goth snarked, sarcastically raising her hands in mock celebration.
"Wh-I DON'T SNORE!" Trina protested, pointing an accusing finger at Jade.
"How would you know? You're asleep." Jade snapped back immediately, with no hesitation.
Not in the mood to fight with Jade, Trina frustratedly groaned and grabbed her stuff before storming out of the room.
Jade let out a short, quiet laugh before defaulting back to her blank expression and tossing her blanket onto her bed.
"Alright, I'm gonna go to the bathroom." she announced emotionlessly, making her way to the door, leaving Cat and Tori together on the floor.
Cat then pulled a pink hairbrush from her bag and begun combing her red curls.
Tori, on the other hand, kept her eyes on Jade, as she watched the goth walk out of the room. Once Jade was out of her sight, her mind began to wander, and she soon found herself recalling the day's events.
"Andre? W-Why are you here?"
"I saw you and Jade run in here, she looked hurt or something. Is she okay?"
"Yeah, totally she's. . . y'know what, I'm too upset to keep this charade up. No, she's not okay."
"Why not, what's happened?"
"Okay listen, Jade's pregnant and-"
"She's pregnant!?"
—
"Jade... do you wanna get outta here for a few hours?"
"And how would we sneak out? You heard what Sikowitz said in class on Friday, all the doors are locked, we can't get out, believe me, I already tried yesterday after my whole onesie-breakdown thing. It's like prison." .
"Well then... you up for a little jailbreak?"
—
"God Andre, I hope we've got the right bathroom this tim-OH CRAP, SON OF A-"
"Tori?"
"Jade!"
"Andre?!"
"Beck?!"
"What are you guys doing in here?"
"We...could ask you the same question. This is the girl's bathroom, after all?"
—
"You were right."
"Right about what?"
"In the diner. You said I was terrified to tell Beck about this whole thing. That I was afraid to lose him. And godammit, you were right, I can't tell him about this Tori, I just can't. The only reason I was about to tell him back there was because I was literally cornered."
"J-Jade please calm down. Everything's gonna be fine."
—
"Really think about this; if you don't tell Beck, can you ever begin to get past this? What about when you guys want to start a family when you're older?"
"I... he doesn't need to know. What's the point upsetting him over something that isn't even his?"
"Jade, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have pushed you, I-"
"Just drop it Tori. Please."
"Jade-"
"Drop it. Now."
Looking up from the floor, Tori settled her eyes onto Cat, who had finished combing her hair and had now put it up into a high ponytail.
Cat.
"We-we were just walking through the alley and...he just came out of nowhere. He...began to...to do stuff to me. I screamed the entire time, but he wouldn't stop."
Tori suddenly remembered what Jade had told her about the redhead yesterday, when she had found her crying in the locker room after the onesie debacle.
"And what do you mean, 'we were walking?' You were with someone?"
"I was walking home that night with...with Cat."
Tori felt her anger from earlier resurfacing. She didn't know who it was directed at before, but now she had some sort of idea for who it was partly targeted at.
"So she... was-"
"No, she wasn't touched, but he was gonna do it to her at first."
The latina got to her feet and walked the few steps over, to sit across from Cat.
"What's up, Tori?!" Cat asked, smiling at her friend.
"I wanna talk about Jade." Tori said, failing to return the smile.
"Oh, okay! Umm... I love her hair, right? The different highlights really stand out against the black, don't you think?" Cat gushed, failing to grasp Tori's seriousness.
"Wh-no Cat, I actually had a specific topic in mind."
"Okay then, what about her did you wanna talk about?"
"I wanna talk about what she did for you."
"What did she do?" Cat asked.
"She took it for you, and what did you do in return?"
Cat's brows furrowed in confusion, from both Tori's question, and her unnaturally grave tone of voice.
"Tori? What are you...talk-"
"Did you scream, did you fight him, call the police?" Tori cut her off, and it was then that the realisation hit Cat, and her face stiffened immediately.
"The alley? Tori, I-I did everything I co-"
"Or did you just stand there and do nothing?"
"Tori, that's not fair."
"No, what's not fair is Jade having to put her mental and physical health through hell because of what happened."
"So you're blaming me?" Cat asked, her face failing to mask her hurt.
"No, I'm asking if you did anything to even try and protect her."
"I-I couldn't move, Tori. I was backed up against a wall."
"You couldn't move? Was the guy armed or something?"
"No... but you didn't see it. You weren't forced to watch." was all Cat could get out, her voice changing entirely from it's usual bubbly nature, into a low whisper.
Tori's brows dropped upon hearing Cat's words. She had been so wrapped up dealing with Jade's problems for the past two days, she hadn't even begun to fathom what emotional scars Cat must've been left with that night.
"You have no idea how useless I felt, watching my best friend. Watching the girl I've known since middle school. Watching the strongest person I've ever known in my entire life, broken. Crying her eyes out in pain while that...that bastard touched her. Violated her. Oh, you have no idea."
"But... couldn't you have-" the latina gently begun to ask before being cut off.
"TORI, YOU DON'T GET IT, YOU WEREN'T THERE!" Cat snapped, shocked at how loud her words had come out. She clapped her palm over her mouth.
Before Tori could reply, a voice came from behind them.
"Oh my God, just stop!"
The two girls turned around and saw Jade standing in the doorway in oversized nightwear, and her hair in a messy braid.
The goth walked into the room and sat with Cat and Tori. She turned to the latter.
"Back off of her. There's no point in blaming Cat for this." she sighed, gesturing to her stomach.
"No Jadey, she's right. I deserve it." Cat whispered, dropping her head to hide her oncoming tears.
"No, you don't. You had no control over what happened. It's not your fault, remember?" Jade said, pulling Cat's face up to look her in the eye.
"Remember what I told you when we made it home that night?"
"Not really."
"About how a person can either be-"
"-a bee or a wasp?" Cat hesitantly cut in.
"That's right..." Jade nodded, urging for her to continue.
"Bees can sting someone. But they die right after. Just like how some people do a bad thing, but then they have to face the consequences." Cat recited.
"But...?" the goth gently pressed.
"But wasps can get away with it. They can sting many people, as many times as they want. And there are people out there who can do the same."
"Mmm hmm. And that guy wasn't a bee. He was a wasp. There's no telling how he could've hurt you too. He was a wasp, okay?"
"He was a wasp." Cat repeated softly.
"Don't forget that." Jade said, giving the redhead a smile, before turning back to Tori.
"You shouldn't have done that." she said to the latina, her face hardening once again.
"I know." was all Tori could say.
"I get why you think she deserves to suffer for not doing anything, but believe me, the guilt she's gonna carry for the rest of her life would be more painful than any punishment you or I could ever inflict."
"Y-You're right. I'm sorry, I-I just got angry thinking about... well, everything and-"
"Tori, I said I get it. But I'm not the one you need to apologise to." Jade said, motioning to Cat.
After being given a lengthy apology from the latina, Cat sat for a minute, gathering her overflowing thoughts.
"So... can you forgive me?" Tori asked.
Cat waited another minute before finally replying.
"Only if you'll forgive me for yelling at you."
"Of course." Tori said, causing Cat to giving her a bone-crushing hug, before going to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
Once Cat left the room, Jade gave Tori a gentle nudge.
"Hey, while we're on the topic of apologies..." she begun to say before trailing off.
"Yeah?" Tori asked, raising a single eyebrow.
"I'm sorry... for lashing out at you before. When we were taking the flag back to Sikowitz."
"You are?"
"Yeah, I shouldn't have taken my personal shit with Beck out on you."
"And I shouldn't have pushed you."
"Hey, it's cool." Jade shrugged.
"Thanks for apologising." Tori smiled, and then stood up, holding out an arm for the goth.
Once Jade carefully pulled herself onto her feet, Cat reappeared from her bathroom trip. Almost simultaneously, the three girls wordlessly got into their beds, and had all fallen asleep within minutes.
