Chapter 8: Lt. Surge and Paul
Hello everyone, here's chapter 8, it'll mainly cover Ash's gym battle with Lt. Surge and Ash also Ash and Paul's first battle with each other. Small spoiler a certain Pokémon evolves in this chapter.
We see Ash, Pikachu, Misty, and Brock standing in front of the Vermillion City gym and the gang walk inside. Once they're inside they see a large battlefield, a lot of trainers with their electric type Pokémon out the trainers give the group a serious look then a tall buff lady with brown skin and white hair walk over to the group.
"Hello there, my name's Visquez, I'm gym leader Lt. Surge's number 1 apprentice are you here to challenge him to a battle?" Visquez asks, looking down at the group as Ash answers.
"That would be me my name is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town I've come here to get my third gym badge" Ash says causing Visquez and the other trainers in the room to get shocked looks on their faces when they hear the name Ketchum everyone then hears a loud voice.
"DID I JUST HEAR KETCHUM!" The voice of a man yells as he quickly walks to the group standing next to Visquez he looks down at the group causing the kids to get intimidated.
"My name's Lt. Surge are you the one who called himself Ketchum?" Surge asks while looking at Ash as the boy speaks.
"Yes, that's me sir" Ash says with Surge getting a big smile on his face as he speaks.
"Finally, after all these years Red's kid is finally going to battle me it's nice to meet ya Ash" Surge says as he gives Ash a big hug hurting Ash in the process Misty and Brock look at Ash being crushed in the hug as Vizquez speaks.
"Sir you'll break him if you keep hugging him" Visquez comments making Surge let go of Ash letting the boy catch his breath. When Ash's done catching his breath, he looks at Surge and speaks.
"So, you know my dad?" Ash asks with Surge nodding.
"Yeah, I sure do when he challenged me to a gym battle a long time ago, his Charmeleon at the time was really strong and it defeated my Raichu easily" Surge responds with a smile surprising Ash as Surge continues.
"After our battle I've been training hard to one day beat him I didn't think his son would come to battle me, so this makes me happy I hope you give me a good battle that lives up to your father's legacy" Surge says with Ash nodding Surge then looks at Pikachu on Ash's shoulder and gets a curious look.
"You haven't evolved your Pikachu yet?" Surge asks as Ash speaks.
"No why is that a problem?" Ash asks as Surge speaks.
"Well, it's just that since you're Red's son I would've expected you to have a Raichu at this point not a baby and weak looking Pikachu" Surge says causing the other trainers (except Visquez) to laugh making Ash and Pikachu angry.
"Hey, my Pikachu's strong as is it doesn't need to evolve to prove its strength" Ash argues back with Pikachu charging its cheeks as Surge speaks.
"Oh, really okay then how about we do this your baby Pikachu against my Raichu let's see who's stronger" Surge says with a confident smile bringing out Raichu. When Raichu appears, it looks at Pikachu and has a confident look on its face with Pikachu looking at it as Ash speaks.
"Sounds good to me and Pikachu's going to win" Ash states with determination in his eyes Pikachu and Raichu continue stare at each other as Vizquez speaks.
"Sigh you always do this sir I'll be the referee today" Visquez says giving Surge an annoyed look as Surge and Ash begin to walk to their sides of the battlefield. Misty, Brock, and the other trainers in the gym stand off to the side to watch the battle Visquez begins to speak.
"This is a 1v1 battle between the gym leader Lt. Surge and the challenger Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town whoever knocks out their opponent's Pokémon first will be declared the winner. Now, will both trainers please bring out your Pokémon!" Visquez says as Raichu and Pikachu jump on the battlefield and begin sparking their cheeks as Visquez speaks.
"Battle Begin!" Visquez calls for the battle to begin Ash and Surge call out their first moves.
"Use Thunderbolt!" Ash and Surge call as Raichu and Pikachu fire the electric bolt of lightning at each other the moves collide creating an explosion. When the explosion clears, we see Raichu and Pikachu staring at each other as Surge speaks.
"Even though it's a baby being able to equally match Raichu's Thunderbolt is impressive as expected from the son of Red" Surge comments with a smile as Ash speaks.
"You haven't seen anything, yet Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash calls Pikachu instantly shoots forward and slams into Raichu's face causing the large mouse to slide back a little as Surge speaks.
"Catch that baby mouse with your tail" Surge calls Raichu nods it shoots its tail forward and quickly wraps Pikachu in its tail. Pikachu tries to break free Ash's about to call for a command as Surge speaks.
"Now continuously slam it on the ground!" Surge calls Raichu begins to slam Pikachu on the ground repeatedly causing damage to the yellow mouse as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu break free with Iron Tail!" Ash calls when Pikachu is about to hit the ground again it quickly glows its tail in steel energy and hits a part of Raichu's tail causing the large mouse to let go as Pikachu is able to safely land on the battlefield. Pikachu lets out a few huffs from the damage it's taken back in the stands Misty speaks.
"Ash's really having a hard time already the battle has only started, and Pikachu has taken a lot of damage" Misty says with Brock nodding as they both speaks.
"Come on you can do this!" Misty and Brock cheer with Ash looking at them smiling then looking back at Pikachu as he begins to think.
"I have to do something quick Pikachu's not going to last long" Ash says while thinking to himself as Surge speaks.
"If you're not going to attack then I will Raichu use Thunderbolt!" Surge commands as Raichu fires the lightning bolt it quickly heads for Pikachu as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu dodge with Quick Attack then use Iron Tail on Raichu's feet!" Ash calls Pikachu dodges Raichu's Thunderbolt it quickly runs to Raichu while charging its tail and hitting Raichu's leg causing it to fall on one knee lowering Raichu's defense. Pikachu jumps in the air it begins charging another Iron Tail as Ash speaks.
"Finish this with Iron Tail!" Ash commands Pikachu nods it starts falling towards Raichu as it's getting closer to Raichu Surge smirks.
"Your good Ash but your father was better Raichu use Mega Punch" Surge commands as Raichu quickly charges its right fist. It dodges Pikachu's Iron Tail and hits it hard in the stomach with Mega Punch knocking the wind out of Pikachu as the yellow mouse flies in the air as Ash speaks.
"Come on Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash calls but gets no response from Pikachu as Surge makes his move.
"Let's end this battle shall we Raichu use Body Slam!" Surge commands as Raichu jumps high into the air above Pikachu and begins to fall on it. Pikachu opens its eyes and sees Raichu coming toward it. Pikachu was going to dodge but Raichu was able to hit Pikachu causing damage and making both Pokémon come crashing down on the battlefield creating a large dust cloud as Ash yells.
"PIKACHU!" Ash yells worriedly Misty and Brock look on in worry as well. The dust clears, we see Raichu standing over the defeated Pikachu Visquez then makes the call.
"The challengers Pikachu is defeated making the gym leader Lt. Surges Raichu the victor!" Visquez says with the Vermillion trainers cheering that their boss won. Ash has a sad look on his face he goes to pick up Pikachu Misty and Brock run toward Ash when they reach him, they don't say anything to him as Surge speaks.
"Well, that was disappointing seeing as you are Red's son, I was expecting a lot better from you" Surge says in a mocking tone causing Ash, Brock, Misty and even Visquez look at him in anger as Ash speaks.
"Stop comparing me to my father we're different people!" Ash says in anger as Surge speaks.
"Well duh unlike you Red was a much better trainer than you are when he was the same age as you and good chunk of his Pokémon were already fully evolved by the time, he battled me. Also the other two trainers from Pallet Town I battled had evolved Pokémon as well and defeated me pretty easily if you have any hopes of beating me you should use a Pokémon that's already evolved or evolve your weak Pikachu" Surge responds making the group angry Ash is about to counter but can't think of anything he looks at Pikachu who's very injured and then quickly runs out the gym in the direction of the Pokémon Center with Brock and Misty following him. When the group is gone Visquez looks at Surge then speaks.
"You know sir you didn't have to be so mean to him" Visquez says with a hint of anger in her voice as Surge speaks.
"So, I don't care if he's ever going to be a great trainer like his father, he's going to need to be told these things besides he shouldn't have let me get him so riled up about comparing him to his father if he stayed calm, he possibly could've beat me anyway I'm going to take a nap" Surge says with a yawn as he goes toward a room to sleep. Meanwhile, outside the gym we see Jessie, James and Meowth who are peaking through the window having watched the battle they've surprised looks on their faces as Meowth speaks.
"Whoa the kid lost pretty badly" Meowth says with Jessie and James nodding as James speaks.
"I know he's the boss's enemy and all, but I do feel bad for him," James says as Jessie speaks.
"That Lt. Surge guy is a big bully and I hate bullies I want the twerp and Pikachu to crush him" Jessie says in anger with James and Meowth nodding. Moving back to Ash, Misty and Brock they've reached the Pokémon Center with Nurse joy taking Pikachu from the group and putting the yellow mouse on a bed for it to rest on. As the group are sitting next to Pikachu Paul comes in.
"So, you lost heh as I thought you're pathetic" Paul says Misty and Brock look at Paul angerly while Ash ignores him and continues looking at Pikachu as Misty speaks.
"Why don't you go be rude to someone else" Misty says in anger as Paul speaks.
"Hmph whatever I was just going to go anyway" Paul responds as he walks away from the group Misty and Brock see Paul leave as they turn back to look at Ash and Pikachu.
20 minutes have passed, and Pikachu finally opens its eyes.
"Pika Pi" Pikachu says looking at Ash, Ash's eyes grow wide with happiness looking at Pikachu as he speaks.
"Hey Pikachu, are you feeling better?" Ash asks with Pikachu nodding its head it then gets up to show that it's fine but still feels some pain, so it goes to lay back down on the bed it remembers the battle with Raichu then gets depressed as Ash speaks.
"What's wrong Pikachu?" Ash asks with Brock answering.
"Its pride was destroyed today" Brock answers with Ash and Misty looking at him curiously.
"Pride?" Ash asks with Brock nodding his head as he continues.
"Your Pikachu is really impressive Ash it's done many things I wouldn't expect other Pikachu to do so I think after it lost to its evolved form it destroyed its pride and making Pikachu think it's not good enough as it is" Brock says with Ash and Misty nodding they look back at Pikachu with sad looks on their faces as Nurse Joy appears.
"Maybe this can help your Pikachu" Nurse Joy says as she walks over to the group and is holding a yellow stone with a Thunderbolt in the middle. The group look at the stone as Joy speaks.
"This is a Thunder Stone, you can place it on Pikachu's head, and it'll evolve into Raichu giving it the extra firepower it needs to defeat Surge's Raichu" Joy says as she hands Ash the stone, he looks at the stone for a little bit then looks over at Pikachu and holds it in front of the yellow mouse and speaks.
"Tell me Pikachu do you want to evolve? it'll make you stronger, but I've also heard that when a Pokémon evolves sometimes their personality's change so I'm letting you choose" Ash says while looking at Pikachu seriously Pikachu looks at Ash then back to the stone after a few moments Pikachu gives its answer.
"Pika" Pikachu says in disagreement as it knocks the stone out of Ash's hand choosing to stay as a Pikachu making everyone in the room happy as Ash speaks.
"Yeah, Pikachu you're fine just the way you are let's find a way to beat Lt. Surge's Raichu together" Ash says excitedly with Pikachu agreeing as Misty speaks.
"But how exactly will you win?" Misty asks making Ash and Pikachu lose their excitement as they begin to think Brock then speaks.
"Hey, I've an idea while replaying the battle in my head I notice that Surge's Raichu didn't use any speed type moves only raw power moves and tanking hits. So, my theory is Lt. Surge must've evolved Raichu as soon as he got it that's why it doesn't have any of the speed moves it would've had as a Pikachu" Brock says with Ash, Pikachu and Misty putting the pieces together as what Brock says comes to light. Misty then speaks.
"Adding to what Brock said Ash remember your battles with Brock and Leaf you used speed as your advantage" Misty says with Ash smiling as he remembers those battles.
"You're right Misty and Brock thank you I'm now confident that me and Pikachu will win let's try again tomorrow morning and beat Raichu" Ash says excitedly as Pikachu gets excited Nurse Joy then speaks.
"I hope you do well tomorrow" Nurse Joy says with Ash thanking her. Meanwhile, out of view from everyone Paul was overhearing them.
"Hmph" Paul says as he goes to his room to rest.
It's now the next morning the gang is back in front of the gym after Pikachu was discharged from the Pokémon Center it did some training with Brocks Onix, Misty's Seel, Ash's Clefable and Bulbasaur to raise its speed more and learn how to deal with slow but powerful Pokémon. The group enter the gym and they see Lt. Surge along with Visquez and the other gym trainers in front of them. Surge looks at them and speaks.
"So, you did come back son of Red Ketchum tell me did you evolve your Pikachu?" Surge asks with a smile as Ash speaks.
"Nope Pikachu wants to stay as a Pikachu it has no interest in evolving and we're going to win that badge" Ash says with determination in eyes with Pikachu doing the same Surge notices this and smiles.
"Well even if you came up with some sort of plan to beat Raichu the outcome will be the same" Surge says in confidence he walks to his side of the battlefield as Ash speaks.
"We'll see about that" Ash says as he and Pikachu walk to their battlefield Visquez walks over to the referee spot she takes her position then speaks.
"Today's battle is a rematch between the Gym Leader Lt. Surge and the challenger Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town the rules will be the same as yesterday now both trainers please send out your Pokémon!" Visquez says as Surge brings out Raichu and Pikachu jumps on the battlefield both trainer and Pokémon are ready to battle as Visquez speaks.
"Battle begin!" Visquez calls Surge quickly makes the first move.
"Raichu use Thunderbolt!" Surge calls Raichu quickly fires the bolt of electricity at Pikachu as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu dodge then increase your speed with Agility and run around Raichu!" Ash calls Pikachu dodges Thunderbolt and begins to run around Raichu making the large mouse confused as Surge speaks.
"Raichu use another Thunderbolt!" Surge commands Raichu fires another Thunderbolt, but Pikachu dodges it. Raichu keeps firing Thunderbolts but stops as it's unable to hit Pikachu and gets a little tired as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu use your Thunderbolt!" Ash calls Pikachu fires the move shocking Raichu the move isn't very effective but did do damage. Raichu looks at Pikachu as Surge speaks.
"Raichu use Body Slam!" Surge calls Raichu tries to slam on Pikachu, but Pikachu successfully dodges and gets behind Raichu.
"Now Iron Tail!" Ash calls Pikachu covers its tail in steel energy and hits Raichu in the back with Iron Tail making the large mouse fall in pain and its defense gets lower. Surge has a surprised look on his face as he speaks.
"What's going on here my Raichu is stronger than your Pikachu how are we losing?!" Surge asks in anger as Ash speaks.
"It's because your Raichu didn't learn the speed moves it would've learned as a Pikachu you evolved it too fast" Ash responds shocking Surge at how right Ash is as Surge continues to speak.
"Even still all I'll need is for Raichu to land two hits on Pikachu and its over Raichu use Mega Punch!" Surge calls Raichu charges at Pikachu with both of its fists glowing as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu trip Raichu with Iron Tail!" Ash calls Pikachu dodges the Mega Punch and successfully trips Raichu making the large mouse angry as Surge speaks.
"Fine then let's see you dodge this Raichu use a full power Thunderbolt on the battlefield!" Surge calls Raichu lets out a loud scream and fires a strong Thunderbolt on the battlefield. The move is so big that it almost hits the bystanders watching the battle and breaks all the gym's windows which causes it to shock Jessie, James and Meowth who are watching the battle from outside. When the electricity stops we see the rocket trio covered in black smoke as they speak.
"That hurt" The rocket trio say while groaning in pain. Back in the gym there's a big dust cloud covering the battlefield. As it's clearing Surge begins to laugh
"Hahahahaha, you see that, that's true power there's no way your Pikachu could've survived that attack" Surge says while laughing as Ash smirks.
"You sure about that? Because my Pikachu isn't finished yet" Ash states as Surge gets a confused look on his face as the dust is clearing Surge and everyone except Ash are surprised when they see Pikachu with its tail in the ground acting like a Lightning rod Surge then yells.
"OH NOOOOO!" Surge yells as Raichu has a shocked look as well Ash then speaks.
"Now Pikachu end this with one more Iron Tail!" Ash calls Pikachu nods it jumps forward at Raichu and covers its tail in steel energy as Surge speaks.
"Raichu Thunderbolt!" Surge calls Raichu tries to use the move but isn't able to as it used up all the electricity it had. Surge has a surprised look on his face as Ash speaks.
"GOOOOO!" Ash yells as Pikachu lands the Iron tail hard on Raichu's face the large mouse goes flying until it lands next to Surge. Surge looks at the mouse and can see that it's fully knocked out as Vizquez speaks.
"Gym leader Surge's Raichu is unable to battle the winner is Pikachu making the challenger Ash Ketchum the victor!" Visquez calls making Ash and Pikachu smile as they cheer.
"YEAH!" "PIKA!" Ash and Pikachu cheer that they've won as do Misty, and Brock. The other gym trainers are surprised but they cheer too. The rocket trio cheer as well but not too loud, Surge is disappointed that he lost but smiles and thinks to himself.
"Your son is a strong trainer, Red; I see him doing great things" Surge says to himself as he walks over to Ash and Pikachu. When Surge makes it to them, he then speaks.
"I'm terribly sorry for constantly comparing you to your father and calling your Pikachu a baby and weak to make it up to you here this is the Thunder Badge its proof of you beating my gym" Surge says as he hands Ash the badge Ash and Pikachu look at the badge excitedly as Ash speaks.
"Alright I just got the Thunder Badge!" "Pi Pikachu!" Ash and Pikachu say happily as they do their pose making everyone in the room laugh as Surge speaks.
"You know your father did that exact same pose when he beat me" Surge says as Ash speaks.
"Hehehehe he's the one that taught it to me" Ash responds while smiling with Surge nodding. Visquez then walks over to them when she makes it, she looks at Ash and speaks.
"So, what are you going to do now?" Visquez asks as Ash speaks.
"Well, I'm going to finally battle my rival Paul and then train for 2 weeks for the upcoming SS. Anne battle tournament" Ash responds having an excited look on his face. Surge and Visquez smile as Surge speaks.
"Sounds great Ash, I hope you do well in the tournament and win the prize. Also, I'll tell you one more thing when you battle Paul make sure not to let your guard down, he's a really skilled trainer" Surge says with Ash nodding his head the group then say their goodbyes to the Vermillion Gym and head in the direction of the Pokémon Center. The group make it to the center Pikachu gets a quick check up showcasing that it's fully healed Paul then walks over to the group and looks at Ash.
"So did you win?" Paul asks with Ash showing his badge as proof, Paul gives a small smirk and speaks.
"Okay then come to the back of the Pokémon Center in 10 minutes there's a battlefield there and it'll give you time to pick your Pokémon. Also forget about the no substitution rule we'll be able to switch between our Pokémon" Paul states as he leaves with Ash nodding his head, he then looks at his Pokeball's bringing out his other 5 Pokémon Pikachu goes and stands with them. When the 5 mons appear Pikachu's standing next to them, they look at Ash as he speaks.
"Alright guys we're finally going to battle Paul, it's going to be a 4v4 battle, so I'll be using Pikachu, Magikarp, Clefable and Charmeleon." Ash says the four Pokémon cheer, but Bulbasaur and Squirtle are sad that they aren't going to battle as Ash speaks.
"Sorry Bulbasaur and Squirtle I would've loved to use you guys as well and I promise the next time we battle Paul, I'll let you two battle. For now, watch the battle and cheer us on" Ash says with Bulbasaur and Squirtle nodding in understanding as Ash continues to speak.
"Alright guys let's get out there and win!" Ash yells, having an excited look on his face with his Pokémon roaring in agreement.
10 minutes later Ash and Paul are on their sides of the battlefield and are staring at each other. Brock is the referee and Misty is sitting on a bench with Bulbasaur and Squirtle next to her. The Misty, Bulbasaur and Squirtle continue to look at the battlefield as Brock begins to speak.
"This is a 4v4 battle between Ash and Paul with substitutions the victor is decided when all Pokémon on either Ash or Paul sides are unable to battle now, please send out your first Pokémon!" Brock calls as Ash sends out his first Pokémon.
"Clefable I choose you!" Ash says he throws the ball forward as the Pixie Pokémon appears from its Pokeball landing on the field ready to battle. Paul pulls out a Pokeball then speaks.
"Nidoking stand by for battle" Paul says he throws Nidoking's Pokeball forward and the giant Poison reptilian-like creature appears on the battlefield giving a mighty roar looking at its opponent. The two mons and trainers look at each other as Brock speaks.
"Now that both trainers have sent out their first Pokémon let the battle begin!" Brock calls Ash quickly makes the first move.
"Clefable raise your special attack with Calm Mind!" Ash calls Clefable nods she begins to calm her mind raising her special attack/defense as Paul speaks.
"Use Toxic Spikes" Paul calls Nidoking roars shooting out Toxic particles all over the battlefield with Ash gritting his teeth as he speaks.
"Darn like Stealth Rock he used a move that'll poison any Pokémon I send out this is going to be difficult" Ash says to himself as he calls for his next move.
"Clefable use Psychic!" Ash calls Clefable fires the Psychic waves at Nidoking as Paul speaks.
"Use Protect" Paul calls Nidoking summons a barrier protecting it from the Psychic waves. Nidoking gets its fists ready as Paul speaks.
"Now Poison Jab!" Paul calls Nidoking covers both of its fists in poison and charges forward at Clefable as Ash speaks.
"Quick use Ice Beam!" Ash calls Cleflable fires the beam of Ice at Nidoking. As the icy beam's about to hit Nidoking the poison reptile blocks the attack with its left of its arm and is still charging at Clefable with Poision jab on its right arm. As Nidoking's getting closer to Clefable Ash calls for a command.
"Hurry use Psychic!" Ash calls but Nidoking hits Clefable with the Poison Jab causing super effective damage and poisoning Clefable. Clefable coughs in pain but is still able to use Psychic as it sends Nidoking flying back causing super effective damage as well. Nidoking stands back up groaning in pain as Ash speaks.
"Now lower Nidoking's attack with Baby Doll Eyes" Ash calls Clefable blinks its eyes as successfully lowers Nidoking's attack. Paul isn't concerned as he calls for his next move.
"Use Sludge Bomb!" Paul calls Nidoking roars as it fires a giant sludge ball at Clefable Ash quickly makes a command.
"Use Minimize to dodge!" Ash calls Clefable takes poison damage but still uses Minimize to make itself smaller allowing it to dodge Nidoking's attack Paul then smirks and calls a command.
"Now use Sludge Wave!" Paul calls Nidoking roars as it summons a giant wave of poison covering the battlefield and hitting Clefable causing super effective damage making the pixie mon cry out in pain.
"Clef!" Clefable screams in pain from the attack making Ash worried as he speaks.
"Come on Clefable hang in there use Moonlight!" Ash calls Clefable begins to heal itself Paul speaks.
"Use Dig!" Paul says as NIdoking quickly digs underground. When Clefable's done healing itself it begins to look around as Ash speaks.
"Be careful Clefable Nidoking can appear from anywhere once it does use Psychic!" Ash calls with Clefable nodding as it waits for Nidoking to appear. After a few moments Nidoking appears behind Clefable and punches it in the face. Clefable stands her ground and uses Psychic greatly injuring Nidoking as its flung back to Paul's side but it's still standing. Paul then returns Nidoking and brings out his next Pokémon.
"Magby stand by for battle!" Paul says he throws the ball forward as the little magma Pokémon appears from the ball and has a serious look on its face as Ash speaks.
"Clefable use Moonblast!" Ash calls Clefable fires the large pink orb towards Magby as Paul speaks.
"Send it back with Fire Punch" Paul commands Magby heats up its right fist and punches the Moonblast right back at Clefable hitting the pixie Pokémon causing some damage but not a lot. Ash has a surprised look on his face back in the stands Misty speaks.
"To be able to punch back Clefable's Moonblast that was powered up by Calm Mind is impressive" Misty says while Bulbasaur and Squirtle's eyes glued to the battle. Back on the battlefield Paul speaks.
"Now use Smokescreen" Paul calls Magby summons a large black cloud of smoke covering the entire battlefield as Ash speaks.
"Clefable use Dazzling Gleam to blow that smoke away!" Ash calls Clefable yells as it shines brightly it easily gets rid of the Smokescreen and clears the battlefield as Ash speaks.
"That had to have hit Magby" Ash thinks to himself once the smoke clears Magby is gone shocking Ash and Clefable. The two start to franticly look for Magby until Ash notices a hole he's about to call for his next move but Paul beats him.
"Appear from the ground and use Screech" Paul says as Magby appears from underground getting in front of Clefable's face and screeching very loud, hurting Clefable's ears and lowering Clefable's defenses. The Pixie Pokémon is then hurt from the Poison as Ash speaks.
"But I'm sure Magby can't learn dig" Ash says while having a confused look on his face as Paul speaks.
"You're right it can't learn the move it just went into the hole Nidoking made earlier" Paul says with a smirk as Ash speaks.
"Hang in there Clefable!" Ash calls as do Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle trying to cheer on the Pokémon Clefable nods but it's getting tired as Paul speaks.
"Use Fire Punch!" Paul commands as Magby punches Clefable hard in the face normally this wouldn't cause a lot of damage but thanks to the Screech lowering Clefable's defenses it dealt a lot of damage and makes Clefable slide back a few feet groaning in pain as Ash begins to think.
"Man, I want to get Clefable out of there but if I bring out my next Pokémon, they'll be poisoned too I need to get rid of those Toxic Spikes" Ash thinks to himself. He continues to think until he gets an idea, he looks at Clefable and speaks.
"Hey Clefable, I've an idea to get rid of the Toxic Spikes I'm going to need you to stay in the battle longer!" Ash says with Clefable nodding trusting her trainer as Paul speaks.
"Magby finish it with Flamethrower!" Paul calls Magby shoots out hot fire from its mouth it heads straight for Clefable as the fire is getting closer Ash speaks.
"Clefable dive into the hole!" Ash calls surprising everyone Clefable narrowly dodges Magby's Flamethrower at last second and dives straight into the hole that Nidoking made as Paul speaks.
"What?!" Paul says with a shocked expression as Ash speaks.
"Go deeper Clefable then use Dazzling Gleam to get rid of the Toxic Spikes!" Ash calls down in the hold Clefable continues to dig going deeper (learning dig in the process). Clefable then stops as it unleashes a giant Dazzling Gleam from the ground that not only gets rid of the Toxic Spikes but also deals a lot of damage to Magby as well. Magby is then sent flying high into the air as Ash speaks.
"Now finish Magby with Moonblast!" Ash yells as Clefable immediately comes out of the ground and throws a big Moonblast at the injured Magby creating an explosion. Magby then falls back on the battlefield knocked out as Brock speaks.
"Magby is unable to battle Clefable is the winner!" Brock calls Ash, Pikachu, Clefable, Misty, Bulbasaur and Squirtle cheer. Paul has a stoic expression on his face then returns Magby he looks at the Pokeball and speaks.
"So, you couldn't take out an already weakened opponent pathetic" Paul says making Ash a little annoyed, Paul pulls out another Pokeball and throws it.
"Raichu stand by for battle!" Paul says surprising everyone as the large mouse appears from the Pokeball. Ash and friends look at it they see that it looks bigger and stronger than Lt. Surge's Raichu, Raichu has a serious look on its face too it stares at Clefable with Clefable staring back as Ash speaks.
"This is going to be tough Clefable use Rest then return!" Ash calls Clefable nods she closes her eyes and begins to sleep getting rid of the poison as well and returns to its Pokeball.
"Good job Clefable get a good rest I'll need you later" Ash says as he puts Clefable's Pokeball away he looks at Pikachu and speaks.
"You ready to beat another Raichu today buddy?" Ash asks with Pikachu sparking its cheeks and nodding as Ash speaks.
"Alright Pikachu I choose you!" Ash says as Pikachu jumps on the battlefield staring at its opponent with Raichu doing the same. Paul then speaks.
"Don't think you can beat my Raichu with speed like you did with Surge's Raichu not only is mine bigger it's also faster" Paul says as Ash speaks.
"Oh yeah we'll see about that Pikachu use Quick Attack!" Ash makes the first move as Pikachu charges forward at Raichu Paul then speaks.
"Use Quick Attack as well" Paul calls his Raichu gives a mighty cry and charges forward at Pikachu at blinding speed. The two electric rodents clash, but Raichu wins the exchange in the end knocking Pikachu back. Raichu gets its fists ready as Paul speaks.
"Thunder Punch!" Paul calls Raichu quickly jumps forward with its fists covered in electricity it goes to hit Pikachu as Ash speaks.
"Dodge with Agility!" Ash calls Pikachu manages to dodge the Thunder Punch and gets behind Raichu. Pikachu gets its tail ready as Ash speaks.
"Now Iron Tail!" Ash calls Pikachu quickly charges its tail in steel energy and as it's about to hit Raichu Paul then smirks.
"Wrap your tail around its tail then slam it on the ground" Paul commands as Raichu's tail quickly wraps tightly around Pikachu's tail making the yellow mouse stop the Iron Tail it is then slammed hard on its back on the battlefield.
"Chaa!" Pikachu says in pain as Raichu jumps high into the air it begins to spark its cheeks as Paul speaks.
"Now Thunder!" Paul calls Raichu roars as it fires a large bolt of lightning that's bigger than Thunderbolt straight down at Pikachu.
"Try countering with Thunderbolt!" Ash calls Pikachu quickly fires the electric attack it collides with the Thunder but its unfortunately easily swallowed by the large attack a hits Pikachu causing an explosion as Ash yells.
"PIKACHU!" Ash yells in worry, when the dust clears, we that Pikachu is still standing the Thunder did do a lot of damage but thanks to all the endurance training it did its still able to battle as Raichu lands back on the ground. Ash smiles and calls for his next command.
"Way to go Pikachu now use Quick Attack run around Raichu!" Ash calls Pikachu quickly dashes forward and begins to run around Raichu, but unlike with Lt. Surges Raichu Paul's has a confident smile on its face as Paul speaks.
"Trip it with Iron Tail" Paul calls shocking Ash; Ash is about to tell Pikachu to jump but Raichu was too quick it successfully trips Pikachu causing the yellow mouse to fall on the ground as Paul calls for his next command.
"Now throw it in the air and use Hyper Beam" Paul calls Raichu uses its tail to pick up Pikachu and throws it high in the air it then launches a powerful Hyper Beam. The beam heads for Pikachu as Ash speaks.
"Pikachu try to dodge!" Ash calls but Raichu's Hyper Beam was too fast (its faster than Cassidy's Fearow and Raticate) hitting Pikachu the little mouse creating an explosion. A few seconds later Pikachu appears from the explosion it falls on the ground knocked out shocking Ash and the rest of his friends. Ash then quickly runs to pick up Pikachu when he does, he speaks.
"Hey buddy you, okay?" Ash asks as Pikachu opens its eyes and tells Ash sorry that it lost as Ash speaks.
"Don't worry buddy you did great that Raichu is just really tough and don't worry we'll win for sure" Ash says reassuring Pikachu as he walks over and hands the yellow mouse to Misty. When Ash makes it back to his side of the battlefield Paul speaks.
"You should evolve your Pikachu it'll never reach its full potential as long as it stays that way" Paul says as Ash speaks.
"Sorry but Pikachu already made his choice to not evolve so I won't force it when it doesn't want to" Ash responds as he takes out Clefable's Pokeball and throws it.
"Clefable I choose you!" Ash calls Clefable appears from the Pokeball still asleep, but Ash doesn't mind since after using Hyper Beam Raichu shouldn't be able to move for a while Paul then speaks.
"Use Iron Tail" Paul calls shocking Ash as Raichu runs forward with its tail glowing as Paul speaks.
"Like I said my Raichu is stronger than Surge's I've trained it a lot to be able to battle after using Hyper Beam" Paul says to the shocked Ash as Ash speaks.
"Clefable quick wake up and dodge hurry!" Ash yells trying to wake up the pixie Pokémon Misty, Pikachu, Squirtle and Bulbasaur start to yell as well hoping Clefable wakes up, but it doesn't budge as Raichu slams the Iron Tail hard on Clefable's stomach making the Pokemon wake up instantly as it groans in pain at the super effective move Ash speaks.
"Are you okay Clefable?" Ash asks Clefable looks back at Ash giving him a thumbs up but still feels the pain from that Iron Tail. Ash then calls for a command.
"Let's counter use Moonblast!" Ash calls Clefable quickly throws the pink orb at Raichu as Paul speaks.
"Cut it with Iron Tail" Paul calls as Raichu easily cuts the Moonblast in half then smirks at Clefable making the pixie Pokemon angry as Paul speaks.
"Use Thunder!" Paul calls Raichu roars it summons the large electric bolt and fires it at Clefable as Ash speaks.
"Use Protect!" Ash calls Clefable quickly summons a protective barrier stopping the Thunder from hitting it, but the force of the Thunder is too much for the barrier to hold as it starts to crack both Ash and Clefable look in horror as more cracks keep appearing while Paul and Raichu smile Ash then speaks.
"Clefable use Dig!" Ash calls Clefable quickly digs underground successfully dodging the Thunder as it destroys the barrier Paul speaks.
"Raichu jump in the air" Paul says as Raichu quickly jumps in the air the moment Clefable appears out of the ground to hit the large mouse Paul speaks.
"Use Iron Tail!" Paul calls Raichu quickly falls forward and hits Clefable with the super effective move almost knocking it out and lowering its defense as Ash speaks.
"Clefable use Moonlight to heal yourself then inimize" Ash calls as Clefable begins to heal itself Paul speaks.
"Raichu Thunder!" Paul calls Raichu quickly launches the large stream of lightning at Clefable hitting the Pokémon making it cry out in pain.
"CLEFA!" Clefable screams in pain while being shocked by the Thunder. Once the attack stops Clefable gets on one knee panting heavily. She looks at the smiling Raichu one more time then falls on its stomach completely defeated. Ash has a shocked look on his face as he yells.
"CLEFABLE!" Ash yells with his friends shocked that Clefable lost as its one of Ash's most durable Pokémon and was taken down quickly by Raichu. Brock then makes the call.
"Clefable is unable to battle Raichu is the winner!" Brock calls Raichu has a proud look on its face happy that it won with Paul not surprised by the outcome Ash then returns Clefable.
"Thanks, Clefable you did great get a good rest" Ash says he puts the ball back on his belt and starts thinking about his options. He has two Pokémon left while Magikarp is tough and has proven to be very strong Ash is uncertain that it'll be able to beat Raichu that only leaves Charmeleon Ash was hoping to save it for Paul's Turtwig (Ash doesn't know that Turtwig evolved) but he'll have to use it now. As Ash goes to reach for Charmeleon's Pokeball Magikarp's Pokeball begins to shake as the red fish comes out ready to battle shocking Ash.
"Karp, Karp" Magikarp says really wanting to battle as Ash speaks.
"Are you sure about this Magikarp this Raichu is really strong not only does it have a type advantage against you it was also able to beat both Pikachu and Clefable easily are you sure you can win?" Ash asks the red fish turns to Ash and has a serious expression on its face. Magikarp looks up at its trainer then speaks.
"KARP!" Magikarp says loudly that it'll win and get revenge for Pikachu and Clefable. Ash looks into Magikarp's eyes and sees just how determined it is. Ash then smiles and speaks.
"Alright Magikarp I'll go with you let's win this!" Ash says with confidence as Magikarp nods it jumps on the battlefield ready to battle the large mouse that defeated its friends. It gives Raichu a serious stare with Raichu doing the same, Raichu feels that it shouldn't go easy on this Magikarp and can feel that it's strong. Paul, having seen Magikarp battle before, knows its strong as well and won't write it off as weak. Misty, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle begin to cheer for Magikarp hoping that it wins. Brock calls for the battle to continue as Paul makes the first move.
"Raichu use Thunder Wave!" Paul calls Raichu quickly fires the wave of electricity at Magikarp in hopes to paralyze it as Ash speaks.
"Use Bounce!" Ash calls Magikarp glows blue then quickly jumps in the air dodging the Thunder Wave. Magikarp then quickly flies forward hitting Raichu in the face, making the large mouse stubble back and groan a little in pain as Paul speaks.
"Use Quick Attack!" Paul calls Raichu quickly shoots forward and hits Magikarp making the fish slide back a little as Ash speaks.
"Counter with Tackle!" Ash calls Magikarp flies forward as it rams its head into Raichu's gut making the large mouse cough, but it then holds Magikarp tightly with its left hand while it ready's its right hand as Paul speaks.
"Use Thunder Punch!" Paul calls Raichu's right fist quickly glows with electric energy as it punches Magikarp hard on the ground making the fish bounce and groan at the super effective hit. Magikarp begins to build up water in its body as Ash speaks.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Ash yells as Magikarp quickly fires the move right in Raichu's face pushing the large mouse back causing damage and surprising Paul. He's heard that Magikarp can learn Hydro Pump, but this is the first time it's seen one use it.
"Hmph interesting" Paul says with a small smirk as he calls for his next move.
"Use Nasty Plot!" Paul calls Raichu lets out a loud cry as its special attack increases sharply making Ash a little worried as Paul calls for another command.
"Use Thunderbolt!" Paul calls Raichu fires the electric attack at Magikarp as Ash speaks.
"Jump to dodge then use Tackle!" Ash calls Magikarp quickly jumps in the air dodging the Thunderbolt and charges at Raichu as Paul speaks.
"Counter with Thunder Punch!" Paul commands Raichu quickly charges its right fist with electricity and collides with Magikarp. The two Pokémon begin to fight for dominance pushing each other back and forth trying to see who's stronger as Ash speaks.
"Keep pushing Magikarp!" Ash yells Misty with Ash's other Pokémon cheer as well Brock in his mind is also cheering for the fish Paul then chuckles Ash notices and speaks.
"What's so funny?!" Ash asks in anger as Paul speaks.
"You know Raichu's other arm is free right?" Paul asks in a mocking tone as both Ash and Magikarp realize what Paul means Raichu charges up its left fist with electricity and punches Magikarp away causing super effective damage and paralyzing it. Magikarp groans in pain as Paul speaks.
"Now finish it with Thunder!" Paul calls Raichu roars and fires the large stream of lightning at the paralyzed fish. Ash knows Magikarp can't move right now so he'll have to counter.
"Magikarp use Hydro Pump to counter the Thunder!" Ash calls Magikarp fires the massive stream of water at the Thunder the two moves clash but since Raichu's Thunder was powered up by the Nasty plot Thunder is a lot stronger than it would normally be it destroys Hydro Pump, and the Thunder successfully lands shocking Magikarp.
"KARP!" Magikarp cries out in pain while being shocked by the Thunder as Ash yells.
"MAGIKARP!" Ash, Misty, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle yell out in worry as Magikarp is being electrocuted Paul smiles and speaks.
"Looks like it's my win again you made a mistake by believing in your Pokémon. I'll admit your Magikarp is strong, possibly the strongest Magikarp I've seen but you should've sent out another Pokémon instead talk about pathetic" Paul says making Ash think.
"Is Paul, right? was it really a bad idea for me to send out Magikarp believing it could beat Raichu should I have really picked Charmeleon instead?" Ash says in his mind but then shakes his head.
"No, I believe in Magikarp it came out of its Pokeball confident that it can win Magikarp has proven time and time again that its strong and has been against many opponents that it should've lost to, but it still managed to come out on top I still believe in Magikarp" Ash says to himself he then looks at Paul and speaks.
"You may be right that I probably should've picked a different Pokémon, but I still believe that Magikarp can win. Over these past three months it's done many things and was in a lot of tough situations that a regular Magikarp wouldn't overcome so Magikarp can still win this I know it can!" Ash says with a determined expression while looking directly at Paul.
"Hmph whatever pretty soon your Magikarp will faint and my Raichu will win" Paul responded with Raichu increasing the power of Thunder making sure Magikarp faints the fish screams in pain as Ash yells.
"Come on Magikarp you've been put in many tough situations before, but you've always pulled threw this is just another wall for you to overcome I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT MAGIKARP!" Ash yells encouraging Magikarp Misty along with Pikachu, Squirtle and Bulbasaur begin cheering for Magikarp wanting it to break out of the situation it's in. Magikarp still being shocked hears not only its trainer's plea but also the friends it's been traveling with. It makes the fish happy as Magikarp never thought that it would meet people and Pokémon that would treat it nicely it begins to think back.

Let's go back in time to a year and 3 months. Deep in the waters of Galar we see a Pokémon egg hatching its Ash's Magikarp who's fully hatched from its egg. It looks up and sees two Gyarados looking at it. The two sea serpents have smiles on their faces, they're happy that their baby is born Magikarp smiles too when it sees them. We then see Magikarp swimming alongside its parents and playing with other Magikarp.
A few months go by Magikarp has grown and is currently taking its morning swim. As it continues to swim it hears a Pokémon in trouble, it looks and sees a Feebas being picked on by two Barraskewda. It seems the lone Feebas accidentally swam into the Barraskewda's territory making them angry. Feebas tries to tell the two very angry fish that it's sorry and tries to swim away but one of the Barraskewda knocks it back on the sea floor while the other uses Aqua Jet hurting the Feebas even more making the fish cry out in pain. Magikarp doesn't like what it's seeing and immediately goes to save the young Feebas.
"KARP!" Magikarp yells making the Barraskewda look in its direction. Magikarp then tackles one of them away surprising the Barraskewda. Magikarp then swims in front of the Feebas showing that it'll protect it. Feebas looks at its savior happily and gets a small blush on its face. The Barraskewda look at Magikarp and begin to laugh they tell Magikarp that it can't actually beat them. That's when Magikarp uses Tackle again and hits one of the Barraskewda showing that it's serious. This makes both Pokémon mad as they go and start to beat up Magikarp using Aqua Jet, Feebas cries in worry while Magikarp looks back at Feebas showing that it's not done yet. Magikarp screams and uses the move Flail on the two Barraskewda making both Pokémon annoyed Magikarp gives a few huffs as that was all the strength it had left the Barraskewda notice then go for the finishing move.
Both Pokémon are then hit by a Hydro Pump they look and see two very angry Gyarados's staring at them the Barraskewda get scared then quickly swim away. Magikarp is happy to see its parents but then passes out.
30 minutes later Magikarp wakes up its back at home next to it is the Feebas from earlier laying right next to it, Feebas is happy to see its savior awake as it was worried. Magikarp is also happy to see Feebas but then gets sad as it begins to wonder if it can get stronger. Magikarp and Feebas spend the rest of the day playing with each other Magikarp also introduces Feebas to its friends not only consisting of Magikarp but other Pokémon as well.
At night the two Gyarados, Feebas and Magikarp are having dinner Magikarp then looks at its parents and tells them that tomorrow morning it's setting off on a journey. The two Gyarados and Feebas are surprised by this and want to know the reason. Magikarp tells them that it wants to travel the world and become the strongest Magikarp then once it completes that dream it'll become a strong Gyarados like its parents of course to achieve that dream it'll have to train hard and maybe become a trainer's Pokémon.
The two Gyarados look at each other they don't want to see their child leave but understand allowing Magikarp to leave. Feebas is sad that its new friend is leaving already but it tells Magikarp that it'll train as well and become a strong Milotic one day. Magikarp smiles that its new friend was able to find a dream it wants to achieve and is happy its parents are allowing it to go on its journey.
It's the next morning Magikarp is about to set off it says goodbye to its friends, its parents and Feebas (who'll be staying with Magikarp's parents to train once that's done it'll head out on its journey as well), Magikarp takes one last look at everyone it knows that this will probably be the last time it'll see them all. Magikarp has a single tear fall from its eye then swims away to start its journey.
4 months go by during Magikarp's travels it's battled many strong water Pokémon most of the time it'll lose but this gave the fish experience and made it very durable. Magikarp has swammed the waters of Alola, Kalos, Unova, Sinnoh, Hoenn, Johto and is now in Kanto in the Vermillion city waters. Magikarp just got done battling a very strong Tentacruel, the fish is exhausted and is very hungry it then sees a piece of Pokémon food Magikarp gets excited as it quickly goes to eat it. Unbeknownst to Magikarp this was a trap Magikarp is then pulled out of the water and is now flopping up and down on a dock. Magikarp looks up and sees a man who looks like a sells man with a fishing pole having a big grin on his face.
"You look like you'll get me some good money" The salesman says as he picks up Magikarp and puts it in a small tank. Useally Magikarp would put up a fight but it was exhausted from its battle with Tentacruel and was very hungry so it couldn't do anything and now its trapped in a small tank.
1 month passes during this time the salesman has been trying very hard to sell Magikarp to many people, but they would always call it weak. Magikarp doesn't consider itself weak but since it was caught it might as well be. Magikarp then got depressed as it now couldn't fulfill its dream to become the strongest Magikarp. The salesman with Magikarp (carrying Magikarp on his back) are now walking by a river close to route 1. The man has an annoyed look on his face as he speaks.
"Geez you really are worthless I've scammed many people to buy Magikarp from me and made a lot of money over the years, but I've been unable to get rid of you" The salesman says at the depressed Magikarp who doesn't respond.
"Sigh well hopefully I'll find some sucker to get rid of you in Pallet town" The salesman says. Magikarp hopes that it'll be given to a trainer that'll help it achieve its dream. That's when the salesman and Magikarp hear a flock of angry Spearow's.
"Why are there a flock of angry Spearow's? I gotta get out of here!" The salesman says he's about to run away but then a Diglett pops out of the ground scaring the man causing him to fall on his back and breaking Magikarp's tank. Magikarp is then flung into the river as the salesman yells.
"NO, MY MERCHANDISE!" The salesman screams he's about to go and see if he can get Magikarp back but remembers the Spearow's and begins to run in the opposite direction. Magikarp is happy that it's finally free, it begins to swim happily with its eyes closed. As it continues to swim it then opens its eyes and sees a boy (Ash) right in front of it. Magikarp tries to stop but Ash and Magikarp hit each other's heads knocking each other out. Magikarp falls on one of Ash's empty Pokeballs the last thing it sees is it being sucked into the ball.
After that the rest is history Magikarp begins to remember the first battle it had with Ash as it helped him battle Team Rocket, then the battles with Samurai, Leaf, and Brock. Magikarp also remembers its battle with AJ's Sandshrew at that point Magikarp achieved its dream of becoming the strongest Magikarp making it very happy as it was thanks to its trainer.
Ash has helped Magikarp grow strong in these past 3 months but his other Pokémon, Misty, Brock, and their Pokémon have helped it reach the strength it has now and is now ready to not only help Ash achieve his dream but also time for it to grow.

We're back in present time Magikarp is currently still being shocked by Raichu's Thunder after hearing Ash and his friends cheering him on and remembering everything that's happened in these past 7 months on its journey Magikarp is not ready to lose. Magikarp gets a serious look on its face as it begins to yell.
KARRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Magikarp gives a mighty scream as it starts to glow a bright white and grows bigger. Everyone have shocked expressions on their faces as Paul speaks.
"You're kidding me" Paul says with a shocked expression with Raichu still firing the Thunder shocked as well. Ash and everyone else look at Magikarp as it's getting bigger and bigger. Its body becomes longer like a serpent, grows two whiskers on its face, big scales on its back and instead of being red it's now blue with a plain under belly and lets out a mighty roar that doesn't sound like Magikarp anymore instead it's.
"Magikarp evolved into Gyarados!" Ash says as what was Magikarp before now stands Gyarados who cancels Raichu's Thunder attack and looks at the large mouse intimidating it. Ash, and everyone else are surprised, Raichu backs up a little bit it has a scared look on its face as Paul speaks.
"What are you doing?! This is still a battle end it with Thunder!" Paul commands Raichu shakes its head and fires the Thunder at Gyarados but instead of dodging Gyarados uses Crunch and destroys Raichu's Thunder surprising Raichu and Paul as Ash speaks.
"That's great Gyarados you learned Crunch I wonder what other moves you've learned?" Ash says as he pulls out his Pokedex and sees that Gyarados knows a bunch of new moves it even has some that it can only learn from TM's and TR's making Ash happy.
"Wow you really are incredible Gyarados alright let's win this use Earthquake!" Ash calls Gyarados roars and slams its tail on the ground causing a big earthquake that not only makes the battlefield shake but even the Pokémon Center, some nearby buildings and the tree's where the TR trio are hiding. They're all holding onto a tree tightly as James speaks.
"Make it stop Jessie!" James says in a scared tone as Jessie speaks.
"Don't tell me tell the twerp!" Jessie responds, as all three try to hang on the tree. Back on the battlefield the Earthquake also caused major damage to Raichu causing it to fall on one knee making Paul grit his teeth as he speaks.
"Looks like you can't battle anymore use Wild Charge!" Paul commands Raichu has electricity flow all over its body and charges at Gyarados hitting the giant serpent. Gyarados roars in pain but it's still able to battle, Raichu lands back on the ground and groans in pain at the recoil damage as Ash speaks.
"That Wild Charge is an interesting move" Ash says to himself as he calls for his next attack.
"Gyarados use Hydro Pump!" Ash calls Gyarados fires the large stream of water at Raichu (Its much bigger than when it was a Magikarp and bigger than Misty's Vaporeon's), Raichu is consumed in the large water and flies pass Paul crashing into a wall behind him. Once the Hydro Pump stops Raichu falls on the ground unconscious. Brock then makes the call.
"Raichu is unable to battle Gyarados is the winner!" Brock says making Ash, Misty, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle cheer while Gyarados roars in victor. Paul is surprised but then returns Raichu back to its Pokeball not saying anything to the large mouse.
"That was amazing Gyarados congrats on winning and evolving!" Ash says as he runs up to the large serpent, Gyarados then looks at Ash having what looks like an angry look on its face making the boy nervous as he speaks.
"Um Gyarados?" Ash says nervously as Gyarados charges at Ash surprising everyone they think that Gyarados is going to eat Ash but let out a sigh when they see Gyarados rubbing its face on Ash while having a smile on its face.
"Hahahaha hey Gyarados stop that tickles" Ash says while laughing as Gyarados continues to rub its face on Ash Misty then speaks.
"I guess Gyarados was able to keep the personality it had as a Magikarp, and it's pretty cute" Misty says with Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle agreeing. Back on the battlefield Paul pulls out a Pokeball throws it forward and speaks.
"Nidoking stand by for battle!" Paul says as he sends out Nidoking, it roars and glares at Gyarados excited to battle it. Ash and Gyarados look at Paul and Nidoking and remember that they are in the middle of a battle. Ash looks at Gyarados and speaks.
"Think you can still battle Gyarados?" Ash asks Gyarados roars ready to battle with Ash smiles as he goes back to his side of the battlefield Brock calls for the battle to continue.
"Alright Gyarados Nidoking was already damaged by Clefable lets end this in one shot use Earthquake!" Ash calls Gyarados roars it slams its tail on the battlefield again causing everything to shake as Paul speaks.
"Nidoking jump and use Thunderbolt!" Paul commands Nidoking quickly jumps in the air before the Earthquake can hit it. Nidoking then fires the Thunderbolt shocking Gyarados the large blue serpent roars in pain as Paul calls for another command.
"Now end it with Thunder Punch!" Paul commands Nidoking covers both of its fist in electricity and starts falling towards Gyarados as Ash speaks.
"Knock it away with Aqua Tail!" Ash calls Gyarados is about to use the move but then gets paralyzed as Ash speaks.
"Darn that's right I forgot Gyarados got paralyzed earlier" Ash says while gritting his teeth as Paul speaks.
"End it" Paul says as Nidoking punches Gyarados in the face. The giant serpent roars in pain it wants to continue battling but knows its body can't go on anymore Gyarados falls on the ground knocked out. Ash, Misty, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle have surprised looks on their faces as Brock speaks.
"Gyarados is unable to battle Nidoking is the winner!" Brock says with Nidoking roaring in victory. Ash's sad that Gyarados lost but then returns the mon to its Pokeball. Ash then looks at the ball and speaks.
"Thanks, Gyarados you were amazing, and I can't wait to use you more in future battles" Ash says as he puts the ball away then takes out Charmeleon's Pokeball and throws it.
"You're up Charmeleon I choose you!" Ash says as Charmeleon appears excited to finally battle it looks at its opponent then gets shocked when it sees Paul. Ash notices and speaks.
"Hmmm what's wrong Charmeleon?" Ash asks as Paul speaks.
"I remember battling that Charmeleon before, but it belonged to another trainer" Paul says surprising the group as Ash speaks.
"Wait you battled Damian?" Ash asks as Paul speaks.
"Yeah, he gave me a good battle he probably would've won if he used a different fire type on my Turtwig looks like he released it, and you have it now" Paul responds with Ash nodding.
"Yeah, Damian had Charmeleon when it was a Charmander stay on a rock for a week with no intention of coming back for it. After some stuff happened, I beat Damian and Charmeleon decided to travel with us" Ash says with Charmeleon nodding as Paul speaks.
"Hmph whatever let's continue the battle Nidoking Earth Power!" Paul says as Nidoking roars and punches the ground with its right hand creating a large crack on the ground heading straight for Charmeleon as Ash speaks.
"Charmeleon use Flamethrower!" Ash calls Charmeleon quickly fires the Flamethrower before the Earth Power reached Charmeleon the stream fire hits Nidoking and knocks it out. Brock then makes the call.
"Nidoking is unable to battle Charmeleon is the winner!" Brock calls allowing for Ash and Charmeleon cheer happily as Ash speaks.
"Great job Charmeleon just one more and we win" Ash says with Charmeleon nodding, Paul returns Nidoking to its Pokeball and smiles.
"I'll admit you've improved since I last saw you and I'm curious on how you'll beat this one Grotle stand by for battle!" Paul says he throws the ball forward as Grotle appears. It lets out a mighty roar then looks at its opponent it remembers battling this same Charmeleon before and notices the trainer for it is different. Grotle gets into a battle stance with Charmeleon doing the same as Ash speaks.
"So that's the evolved form of Turtwig huh I want to scan it with my Pokedex but it would be better for me to attack first" Ash thinks to himself and calls for his first attack.
"Use Fire Spin!" Ash calls Charmeleon fires the move trapping Grotle in a spinning vortex of fire that's causing some damage to the grass turtle, but it doesn't look fazed as Paul speaks.
"Use Growth" Paul says as Grotle roars as it raises its attack and special attack Ash then calls for his next command.
"Charmeleon use Fire Punch!" Ash calls both of Charmeleon's fists glow with fiery energy. It runs in the fire and hits Grotle's head causing some damage to the grass turtle, but it still looks unfazed. Grotle looks at Charmeleon as Paul speaks.
"Use Leech Seed" Paul calls Grotle fires a small seed that sticks itself to Charmeleon's head the seed opens as vines begin to attach themselves to Charmeleon's body begin sucking its energy.
"Char" Charmeleon says in pain while having its energy drained as it goes to Grotle, the Fire Spin stops as well as Ash speaks.
"Charmeleon burn those vines off with Flamethrower!" Ash calls Charmeleon nods as it successfully burns the Leech Seed off its body, but Paul expected that and calls for his next command.
"Use Growth again" Paul calls Grotle nods as it raises its attack and special attack again. Grotle looks at Charmeleon as Ash speaks.
"Charmeleon use Will-O-Wisp!" Ash calls Charmeleon fires the purple fire in hopes of burning Grotle as Paul speaks.
"Protect" Paul calls Grotle summons a protective barrier blocking the Will-O-Wisp from hitting it. Charmeleon begins to heat up its mouth as Ash speaks.
"Now Flamethrower!" Ash calls Charmeleon fires the large stream of flames and successfully hits Grotle doing major damage the grass turtle. Paul isn't concerned as he calls for his next move.
"Use Synthesis!" Paul calls Grotle shines brightly as it begins to heal its wounds from the damage it's taken so far making both Ash and Charmeleon frustrated as Ash speaks.
"Fine let's do this Charmeleon use Smokescreen!" Ash calls Charmeleon spits out a large cloud of black smoke covering the area as Paul speaks.
"Use Growth one more time" Paul commands as Grotle uses one more Growth increasing its attack and special attack to the max. Ash then calls for his next move.
"Charmeleon Flamethrower!" Ash calls hidden in the smoke Charmeleon fires the Flamethrower and hits Grotle again causing super effective damage as Ash speaks.
"Now use two more Flamethrowers then end this battle with Fire Punch!" Ash calls Charmeleon successfully lands two more Flamethrower's doing major damage to Grotle making the grass turtle groan in pain. Charmeleon then runs forward it goes to hit Grotle with its right fist burning with fire while Paul stares until he gives a smirk Ash notices but doesn't know what Paul's planning as Paul speaks.
"Use Crunch on Charmeleon's fist" Paul commands as when Charmeleon goes to punch Grotle the grass turtle bites down hard on Charmeleon's fist. Charmeleon cries out in pain, the Smokescreen clears as everyone see Grotle biting down hard on Charmeleon's right arm Ash then speaks.
"Darn I made a mistake Paul put me in a false sense of security" Ash says to himself with Paul smiling and nodding seeing that Ash found the answer. As Grotle continues to bite down on Charmeleon's arm Ash speaks.
"Charmeleon try using Flamethrower!" Ash calls before Charmeleon can use the move Paul makes a command.
"Use Giga Drain then finish with Leaf Storm!" Paul calls Grotle quickly wraps multiple vines around Charmeleon and starts to quickly suck its energy. Once it had enough the leaves on its back glow a bright green as it summons a large leaf tornado consuming Charmeleon making the fire lizard scream in pain as it's high into the air. Normally grass type moves wouldn't be very effective against fire types but since Grotle's attack and special attack were raised to the max the moves dealt more damage than they usually would. Charmeleon continues to cry out in pain until the leaf's stop Charmeleon begins to fall down as Ash yells.
"CHARMELEON!" Ash yells in worry as Charmeleon falls on the ground landing on its stomach. Charmeleon then struggles to stand up it doesn't want to lose to the same opponent twice and disappoint Ash it stares at Grotle with Grotle staring back at it. They continue to stare until Grotle turns away and walks over to its trainer. Charmeleon doesn't like that and will show that it can still battle. Charmeleon just takes one step then falls on the ground and closes its its eyes in defeat. Ash, Misty Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle are shocked as is Brock, but he makes the call.
"Charmeleon is unable to battle Grotle is the winner since Ash doesn't have any more Pokémon left this makes Paul the winner!" Brock says but he's also sad that Ash lost as well. Ash has his cap down covering his face as he begins to walk to Charmeleon. Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle go to comfort Ash and Charmeleon Misty wants to go as well but Brock stops her as he shakes his head for her to not go over there with Misty nodding.
Ash sits down he lays Charmeleon on his lap Charmeleon looks at Ash and is sad that it lost as Ash begins to speak.
"Don't be sad Charmeleon you, Gyarados, Clefable and Pikachu all did great in this battle. Paul's Grotle is just really strong and as long as we keep training, we'll beat him one day" Ash says comforting Charmeleon Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle come over to comfort both Ash and Charmeleon making both Ash and Charmeleon smile Paul then walks over he looks at Ash and all his Pokémon then speaks.
"Like I said earlier you've improved but you still have a lot more to learn instead of training weak Pokémon you should only capture and train strong Pokémon you'll win more battles that way" Paul says he waits for Ash's response as Ash looks at Paul in the eyes then speaks.
"Sorry Paul I don't agree with that I believe that any Pokémon can be strong if you train them right and forming a bond with them. That's what my dad has always taught me before I started my journey, I still believe that, and I'll prove it to you one day" Ash says with a determined look in his eyes with his Pokémon doing the same Paul scoffs as he begins to walk away Ash speaks.
"Hey Paul, are you competing in the SS. Anne tournament?" Ash asks which makes Paul stop and turn around.
"No if weak trainers like you are entering it won't benefit me or my Pokémon, I'm going to go get my next badge" Paul responds he returns Grotle to its Pokeball and begins to walk away from the group. After Paul's gone Misty and Brock run over to Ash and his Pokémon. When they make it to them Misty looks at Ash then speaks.
"Are you okay Ash?" Misty asks with Brock wondering too as Ash speaks.
"Yeah, my pride hurts a little, but I won't let this keep me down I'm going to keep training my Pokémon the way I do win the SS. Anne tournament and then go on to win the league!" Ash states having a smile on his face with his Pokémon cheering. Brock and Misty smile and are happy to see that Ash is okay. Misty looks at Ash then speaks.
"Alright Ash but you'll have to get pass me first" Misty says having a confident look on her face as Ash speaks.
"Of course," Ash responds looking at Misty as Brock speaks.
"Hey, don't forget me" Brock says causing the two pre-teens to look at him and get excited the group then laugh as Ash speaks.
"Well, the SS. Anne tournament is 2 weeks away let's train hard and see who wins!" Ash says while raising his fist in the air with his Pokémon, Misty and Brock doing the same. Meanwhile on the SS. Anne we see the egg that's the winning prize with two people in lab coats looking at it as male scientist speaks.
"Looks like the egg stopped glowing" The male scientist says as the female speaks.
"Yes, I was worried that the egg was going to hatch before the tournament started but it seems like it was reacting to something" The female scientist says with male nodding as he speaks.
"Hmmm? I wonder what it was reacting to?" The man questions with the female wondering too. When the two scientists leave the room, the egg starts to glow in a blue aura as the chapter comes to an end.

I originally was going to make Ash win but decided that it'll be better for him to lose as it'll give him more motivation to train hard for the upcoming tournament. Also, what's in the egg? I think it's obvious at this point.
The next 2 chapters will cover the events of the gang training before the tournament begins where both Ash and Misty will capture new Pokémon and maybe Brock as well. Chapter 9 will come out either next week or the week after as I'm thinking of uploading it with chapter 10.
