So I will warn everyone that this is where the fanfiction will start to most likely stray away from being tied to the canon timeline, so I apologize if things like the war lasting longer or whatnot happen.
Snowheart's pupils shrunk under the glare of the Moon Globe torch, eliciting a frustrated huff from him. "Hmm, everything seems fine, except for the lack of sleep," Peppermint noted, setting down the cylindrical torch. It resembled a human's version of a flashlight, channelling the soft, bright light of the Moon Globe into a focused beam.
"I've told you, I'm fine," Snowheart dismissed his family's concern with a wave of his paw, rolling his eyes. Despite the recent events, he seemed remarkably composed, having emerged from his prolonged slumber seemingly unscathed.
"Your Highness, I must agree with your mother. You still need rest," Peppermint insisted, her mint-coloured wings held close as she checked her medical equipment.
Snowheart scoffed, tossing his head and exhaling a frosty breath. "I said I'm fine," he reiterated to Peppermint, his Icewing attendant.
Peppermint shook her head in frustration when suddenly, Icesheet burst into the room, panting heavily before crashing into Snowheart, causing him to yelp in surprise. The two lovers tumbled to the floor of the royal medical chamber.
Glacier and Frostbite, burdened by worry for their son, had been unable to find respite. Despite their concerns, duty called, leading them to endure lengthy council meetings to address the ongoing rebellion, with Siberia remaining tight-lipped except for her communication with Snowheart.
"Are you okay? By the Moons, I've been so worried about you!" Icesheet exclaimed, her words rushing out in a torrent. "You've been out cold for an entire week! We feared you might never wake up. I haven't slept or eaten, despite everyone's urging."
Snowheart noticed the tear streaks on Icesheet's cheeks and the weariness in her eyes. Without a word, he gently cupped her face in his forepaws, silencing her with a tender gaze. Icesheet hiccuped softly, her sobs subsiding as they locked eyes, the weight of their shared concern hanging heavy in the air.
"Hey, you" Snowheart whispered, gently rubbing his nose against Icesheet's nose, making her let out a choked laugh while more tears streamed down her beautiful white face.
"You stupid, stupid Prince" She playfully slapped him before pulling him into another hug, feeling him pat his forepaws against her back the two embraced each other.
"Son?" Glacier called out to Snowheart, making him look up at his mother before he got up and pulled his mother in for a tight hug. Frostbite joined the hug, wrapping his giant wings around his wife and son.
Crystal came into the medical wing of the palace, her talons clicking upon the icy flooring while her tail dragged behind her, she looked at her brother, and said. "Oh! You're finally up, thank the moons! How are you feeling?" giving him a soft smile.
"I feel great! Yet Peppermint here says otherwise" He glared playfully at the very pale green-almost white Icewing before focusing back on his sister, who had focused on their parents.
"Mother, Father, reports have come in from two of the guards stationed at the southern part of the capital, It appears the rebellion has become more aware" Hearing this, Frostbite and Glacier looked back at their eldest Daughter, seeing the worry in her arctic blue eyes while Snowheart removed himself from the family's embrace.
"Have you figured out who is in charge of the rebellion?" Snowheart asked his sister, grabbing a glass of icy water which sat on a table to his right, he drank some from the glass while he listened to Crystal.
"Well, we aren't sure who it could be, a few ideas have been flying about, yet one seemed to just hang in the air. what I'm saying brother is that it could b-"
Snowheart interrupted his sister by saying. "You mean Snowstorm?" Making her recoil slightly as her eyes widened, he listened to her shuffle on her paws, the sound of her armour clicking against the icy floor filling his ears before he turned to face her, seeing the royal council standing behind the young princess.
"Y...you think it's him, Your Highness?" Frostfang, who was part of the royal council questioned, tilting his head when Snowheart started to speak.
"Isn't it obvious? First, he starts acting hostile towards all of us, then he starts disappearing for long periods, and now the rebellion has become far more organized. I know Snowstorm is intelligent and has had access to most of the royal council files... It has to be him" Snowheart finished, turning to face his family and council, seeing the worried, confused and angry looks upon them.
Snowheart made his way up to the window which allowed him to overlook the gentle winds that blew over the icy landscape, he took in a few deep breaths to relax himself before he continued to speak.
"I know things seem dire and hopeless, though if this kingdom is to survive, then we must gather our forces, and flush out the perpetrators" By now he had turned to face his family once more, looking at every single member until Mink and Snowfall ran up to him and hugged him.
"Alright you two, it's going to be alright" Snowheart whispered to Mink and Snowfall, wrapping his wings around both of them while they both tightened their grips on him.
After a few seconds of hugging, Snowheart broke the hug before he looked towards Icesheet, he was about to ask something when out of the corner of his right eye, he saw an Icewing hover outside, holding something circular, the other Icewings in the room also noticed the Icewing, seeing that they were about to throw the object at the window.
*SMASH*
The sound of extremely expensive glass smashing filled Snowheart's ears, making him wince, yet when he looked at the object that had impaled itself into the table, his eyes widened when he then noticed the same Icewing outside now holding a bow with a flaming arrow.
"Everyone, Get out, n-" He couldn't finish his sentence for the arrow suddenly struck the Dragonflame Cactus, making it explode in a violent explosion. Snowheart shielded his sisters and parents from the explosion, with the countless tiny balls of spikes slapping against his back, luckily his scales were thick enough to withstand the onslaught from the explosion.
after a few seconds, Snowheart slowly opened his eyes, his ears ringing while he looked to his left to see one of the council members, lying on the floor as she struggled to put pressure on her neck. quickly looking under his massive wings, he saw that all his family were alright, and so he moved slowly over to the elder female, pressing his forepaws on her neck which quickly became caked in blue blood.
The whole room rattled while more explosions ripped through the palace, causing everyone to stumble. Two Icewings, a female and male, came rushing in, each had a blue symbol on their side (Like this +҉ ) Showing Snowheart that they were part of the common medical team.
Stumbling onto his paws, Snowheart shook the smashed glass and bits of burnt fabric from his body, he then looked back over at his family, hearing Mink wailing as tears streamed down her little face, Crystal's ears bled slightly while Snowfall had a few small cuts on her, yet Snowfall quickly scooped up her little sister, calming her down while Snowheart coughed from all the smoke that had began to fill the large medical room.
"Icesheet, Icesheet!" Snowheart called to his lover through coughs, the smoke began to burn his eyes as he began to tell the Icewings in the room to exit. "Mum, Dad, go with my sisters and get out of here" He then noticed Icesheet, hearing her cough as smoke filled their lungs. "Icesheet, you need to go, follow my family!" A hissing sound suddenly filled the air as another Cactus bomb flew through the, already, broken window, yet this time, this Cactus was blue with purple spikes.
Snowheart felt his heart stop, for he had heard about these types of Cactus bombs. they were enchanted by an old Sandwing Animus, so they can be set on a timer, and when they explode, they draw in whatever was around it for a split second, before letting out an almighty explosion.
"Snowheart had no time to lose, he grabbed his mother, father and sisters, and pushed them out of the room, slamming the door shut before he turned and began running towards the cactus. Yet, just as he was near, the cactus went off, sending Snowheart flying out of the large opening of the blowout room. He watched as a giant fireball erupted out from the room he was just in, and then he landed on the snowy ground with a hard thud.
*OOF*
He rolled and rolled before smacking his side against a wall of a building, where its walls were made of Ice. He then got up, clutching his chest before he looked up at the Palace, his eyes full of disbelief.
"H-How *cough* How... I-I-I thought the Palace was-" "Enchanted?" Came a familiar voice, one that made Snowheart's blood boil while he craned his neck around to look at, no other than Snowstorm, seeing the smug grin on his face.
"YOU!, HOW DID YOU-" Snowheart began to say, then Snowstorm interrupted him.
"I was able to break the spell for a few hours, luckily it was en-"
*Boom*
"Enough time to allow my rebellion forces to assault this pathetic Palace" He then smirked, dodging to the side quickly when Snowheart lunged at him before giving a quick smack with his forepaw across Snowheart's back, causing the Prince to collapse onto the snow-covered ground. "tsk tsk tsk, thought you were better than this Snowheart" He grinned when Snowheart glared up at him, a deep growl emitting from the prince's throat before he suddenly jumped up at Snowstorm, tackling the older male before punching him in the snout, a crack sound coming from Snowstorm while he yelped.
"There he is Mummy!" Mink's voice echoed through the air, distracting Snowheart long enough for Snowstorm to leap at him, sending the both of them sliding out into the middle of a fairly small frozen lake, yet the water underneath the frozen surface was no longer there, for the bottom of the lake had given way long ago, leaving behind just the thick frozen surface.
Snowheart got up, shaking the snow that clung to him, as did Snowstorm. Snowheart looked over at the edge of the lake, seeing his family and Icesheet, along with a band of soldiers and the council members standing there, realizing, that at least half the original royal guards were missing.
"This is what I have always wanted, to bring as much pain to you and your family as I... Can!" Snowheart yelped out when Snowstorm once again, leapt at him. Yet Snowheart saw it coming and moved to the side, giving Snowstorm a quick, powerful punch to the ribs, this did little to stop Snowstorm, as he sliced a hidden blade through Snowheart's thigh, making the Prince let out a cry of pain, yet refused to give in.
Their fight continued for a few more minutes, with Snowheart landing more hits on Snowstorm, leaving the older Icewing still standing, yet now dripping with his own blood, one of his wings ripped, and a broken snout. "It's over Snowstorm, your forces are destroyed, and you have lost." Yet Snowstorm's manic grin only grew as suddenly, another enchanted Cactus Bomb appeared in his forepaw, with Snowheart's eyes widening as he realised what was about to happen, yet just as he was about to move, he felt something coil around his throat, dragging him towards Snowstorm who activated the Cactus bomb.
Snowstorm lowered his snout towards Snowheart's left ear, growling. "I haven't lost yet, you welp!" Just then, with his family and others looking on, in horror, unable to move onto the ice due to the extra weight, suddenly a huge explosion rattled the area, cracking the Icy surface of the lake.
"SNOWHEART!" Icesheet cried out, with Snowfall, Crystal and Snowheart's Parents shouting his name while the thick Ice surface began to give way, Snowfall attempted to move onto the ice, yet the part she was about to apply pressure on gave way, with the whole chunk falling into the abyss below. Snowheart dragged himself up onto the surface of the frozen lake and was about to begin running when Snowstorm grabbed his tail. "If I fall, you fall with me Princy!" Loud cracking sounds filled his ears as large boulders of Ice fell from the cliff that overlooked the lake, smashing holes in the surface of the Ice, creating more cracks which weakened the whole surface even more.
Snowheart then noticed Winter's family had come rushing up, seeing Winter's eyes full of fear, yet just as Winter was about to rush to Snowheart's aid, Snowheart shook his head before he let a small smile spread over his snout as he mouthed. "No! no... It's okay, it's okay... you need to be their light now" Then, the part of the Ice surface Snowheart was clinging onto began to give way, making everyone mortified as they watched Snowheart, along with Snowstorm, plummet down into the depths of the unknown.
Time seemed to freeze when Icesheet fell onto her knees, crying loudly while Glacier and Frostbite hugged each other, tears running down both their faces while they struggled to take in the fact that they had just lost their son.
Snowheart landed with a thud on the Icy ground while pieces of the frozen lake fell all around him. He shook his head, clearing his mind while getting up onto his paws, the wounds he had sustained through the fight with Snowstorm continued to bleed, yet it didn't bother him as much.
"Did Snowstorm survive the fall? If I did, then he most certainly did" Snowheart whispered to himself, slowly moving around the countless small pillars of Ice that stood out from the ground, standing taller than him, yet not by much. Some were taller than others, and some were wider, yet the thing that tugged at his mind was, what was this place?
Snowheart had never seen or heard of this place before, and so didn't know what to expect, yet just as he made his way around one of the pillars, Snowstorm launched at him, yet missed, landing hard against one of the pillars, making it fall over.
"You little worm, I knew I should have killed you the day of that meeting when you were still young, yet that is in the past, I'll kill you right here!" Snowheart noticed a spear lying next to where Snowstorm was, he studied himself, moving back slightly while Snowstorm picked up the spear, grinning the whole time.
Snowstorm then lunged at Snowheart, yet the Prince was faster as he grabbed the spear with both forepaws and pushed Snowstorm back up against another Pillar, the two males growling in each other's faces.
Snowheart knew he had to break this deadlock to win. [Think Snowheart, Think!] His eyes widened when he thought about his tail, and so he slapped his tail tip against the pillar, distracting Snowstorm for a precious few seconds to which Snowheart grabbed the spear, and trusted it right through Snowstorm's chest, through his head and into the pillar.
As Snowheart withdrew the spear, Snowstorm's body slumped against the pillar, lifeless. A mix of relief and exhaustion washed over Snowheart as he staggered back, the adrenaline fading and the pain from his injuries intensifying. Every movement sent sharp jolts of agony through his body, and his vision blurred with each step.
Collapsing onto his side, Snowheart clutched at his wounds, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. Darkness threatened to engulf him as he fought to stay conscious, his strength waning with each passing moment. The weight of everything that had transpired bore down on him, and he felt himself slipping away.
Just as he closed his eyes, a soft glow enveloped the edges of his vision. Through the haze of pain and exhaustion, Snowheart glimpsed several silhouettes of Icewings approaching him, their forms shimmering with an ethereal light. Though his mind struggled to comprehend what he was seeing, a sense of peace washed over him, and he welcomed the comforting presence of the mysterious figures.
With a final sigh, Snowheart succumbed to unconsciousness, his body slumping against the icy ground. The world faded into darkness as he drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep, unaware of the spectral guardians watching over him, their ancient wisdom guiding his troubled soul.
