Susan was not sure what to do. The moment it began snowing in the throne room and Peter went running off, she knew the facade was over. But she still tried her best to remain calm. However, when Peter didn't return, and the snow suddenly stopped, she decided to investigate. Even if she didn't want to do that. As she walked toward her younger brother's room with a host of guards, Susan couldn't shake away a sense of dread.
When she walked into the bedroom, Susan immediately knew she was right. Something went wrong. Horribly wrong. There were strange bloodstains on the floor, the wardrobe was open-
She rushed over to check inside as Peter had before, but all she found was the back of the wardrobe. Susan slammed her fists into the wood as she screamed in frustration.
Why wouldn't it let her through?! She knew what it was. She knew it was another doorway. Why, why wouldn't it let her through? Then, a thought crossed Susan's mind. The wardrobe may hate her, but she knew someone who could always get through.
She drew the horn she kept at her waist and blew into it, the sound reaching all those who could help her. Seconds later, more guards burst into the room, along with Lucy and Mr. Tumnus.
"Dear Aslan-" Mr. Tumnus began as he looked at the scene before him. "What-"
"Lucy!" Susan grabbed her sister's arm and dragged her over to the wardrobe before she could process the scene around her. "This leads somewhere, doesn't it?"
"What?" Lucy asked as she was shoved in the wardrobe. "What's going on, Susan?"
"Does it go through?" she clarified. "Does this wardrobe lead anywhere?"
"Uh, let me see!" Lucy called back, but seconds later, said, "No! It doesn't. Why?"
"Damn it!" Susan cried, wishing she understood what was happening. She turned to Mr. Tumnus who was still recovering from shock. "I need you to take Lucy to her quarters. Guard her until I figure all this out."
"Understood." The faun agreed and Susan dragged Lucy out of the wardrobe again. Once she was gone, the Gentle Queen turned to Oreius who was waiting silently in the bedroom doorway. "Guard Lucy, find who did this and do all in your power to find Peter and Edmund."
"Yes, my Queen." The centaur bowed and left to do as ordered.
Next, Susan posted two guards in the room and two outside. Then, she went to the throne room. It was then a Duke of Archenland approached her to inform her that King Lune also seemed to be missing. Apparently, the last time the duke saw him, he was following Peter somewhere.
"Thank you for letting me know," Susan said and continued to the throne room. There, she brought the daily audiences to a close and went to go check on Lucy. She was sure the youngest was upset by all of this. Not to mention, the strange goings on the past few days. When Susan reached Lucy's quarters, the youngest Queen was sitting in the main room talking with Mr. Tumnus. The moment Susan walked in, though, Lucy's rather uncertain tone turned to anger.
"Why don't you ever tell me anything?!" she demanded, coming over to face her foe. "Why don't you trust me, Susan? And it's not just you. It's Peter, too!"
"I am sorry," Susan wished her younger sister understood her reasons. "But you must understand-"
"I don't! Why did you not tell me what was going on? I could have-"
"Lucy," Susan cut her off, "there is nothing you could have done to fix Edmund's curse. I don't think even Aslan-"
"Do you think Aslan knows where Peter and Edmund are?" Lucy asked, suddenly sounding happier. "I bet he does." She stood and made her way toward the door of her quarters. "I am going to find him and-"
"Wait," Susan said, making her pause. "We can't go out there." She went on to explain that whoever hurt Edmund was still wandering around. "But after we capture him, you can search for Aslan."
"Thank you," Lucy said, only for Susan to add:
"With Mr. Tumnus and an escort of soldiers."
"Okay," Lucy sounded disappointed, but Susan was glad she agreed. Then, the three of them waited for news of the assailant's whereabouts. It wasn't until the next day that Orieus reported the faun Daelar had turned himself in for the murder of King Edmund. Susan asked the Capitan of the Guard to rephrase his words, but Oreius refused.
"I am sorry, my Queen." He bowed his head, "Even though the kings cannot be found, it is highly possible King Edmund has ventured to Aslan's Country. With High King Peter missing as well, Narnia is in a precarious place."
"I understand," Susan hated that she did, but she only had one choice. "Then, until Peter's return, I will take his place. Bow to your High Queen, Oreius."
This he did and the future of Narnia was secure once more.
