Stuff…and Thangs.

Rick Grimes is a simple man who likes simplicity and rules; he's always followed the rules unless his friend Shane talked him into trouble. You see Rick works as deputy sheriff in King County, a small town, It's about an hour's drive away from Atlanta, Georgia. He lived a simple life; some would say he lives the American dream with his beautiful wife Lori and his teenage son Carl with a family dog Carl named Oxy and a white picket fence to top it off. He also has an amazing group of friends: there's his best friend Shane Walsh. who he's known since grade school, Glenn Rhee and his girlfriend Maggie who Rick met at the police academy. There's also Abraham and his wife Sasha who he met while in the service. Finally, there's Michonne Hawthorn, a hard-working woman that Rick has come to respect even if she hates him for accepting the promotion of deputy sheriff.

Rick and Michonne have a love/hate kind of relationship, ever since they broke up junior year of high school. When they started dating freshman year, everyone thought they would be high school sweethearts and get married and have kids, but Michonne's dad got a job offer for working at a law firm in New York City during her junior year. Her dad accepted and just like that, Michonne moved away over spring break. Over the following months they tried a long-distance relationship, but that was proving difficult for Rick. He became impatient with Michonne not texting him every day or answering his calls. They started fighting and arguing, something they never did before she moved. After months of Rick's behavior, Michonne decided to break up with him.

But that was some years ago, Rick thought to himself, as he sat at his desk staring at nothing in particular. Now that she's here working under him, he couldn't believe it and she's one of the best on the force. Rick thought Michonne would make a great deputy but Hershel, he's got some old southern views on men and women, and that's how Rick got promoted.

As Rick sat and stared, he never noticed Shane, Glenn, and Abraham watching him while he looked in Michonne's direction. Rick finally got out of his trance when he heard Glenn start snickering at a joke Abraham made. He looked up to see Shane staring at him with a suspicious smirk and all the men started laughing. Take a picture, it'll last longer man. said Shane in his southern drawl.

Rick got up from his seat taking a few reports with him, he playfully hit Shane in the head as he walked past his seat towards Hershel's office. He lightly knocked on the door and let himself be known before stepping fully into the older gentleman's office.

Here's those reports sir, he said as he laid the papers on Hershel's desk.

Thank you, Grimes, the older man said. Before Rick could leave, Hershel stopped him and told him to close the door and sit down.

Sir?

You know my Maggie is dating the Korean kid Glenn, I wanna make sure he's good to her and can protect her when they're out on patrols. Rick, you two seem to get along well. Tell me son…what kind of man is Glenn? Hershel asked Rick.

Rick took in Hershel's words and looked at him in his hazel green eyes with his steel blue eyes and said matter of factly. Sir, Glenn is one of the finest men I know and I'd trust him with my life. He'll do right by your girl. Rick looked at Hershel intensely as the older man took in Rick's words and nodded with appreciation for his honesty.

Thank you, son.

Rick walked out of Hershel's office and went straight towards the bathroom. On his way there he ran into Andrea spilling her coffee all over her and himself.

Shit! He cursed as the warm liquid seeped through his uniform,

What the fuck, Andrea cursed as she dropped her paperwork and coffee, she bent down to pick up the spilled contents and Rick went to help her, but she quickly stopped him and told him to fuck off.

Rick stood there, with his hands on his hips looking down at her with a disappointed look. I'm sorry, I was in a rush, he said in a controlled tone.

'Yeah, no shit' Andrea said getting off the floor to look at him. Maybe try paying attention for once, Grimes, she said as she walked off shaking her head at his recklessness.

Rick walked to the bathroom and washed himself off thinking to himself why today wasn't going right. A few minutes later, Rick walked back to the office area to find Abe, Glenn, and Maggie talking. Shane was now hitting on Andrea, and Michonne …. He looked around to find her, but Michonne wasn't at her desk where she would usually be. Rick walked over to Abe, Glenn, and Maggie to ask where Michonne had gone.

I think she went to drain the pouch, said Abraham laughing at his own word play. Rick frowned and looked at a snickering Glenn and Maggie for a more suitable answer.

I saw her going to the back with Sasha, said Maggie.

Rick nodded and thanked Maggie before looking at Abe and shaking his head while walking off.

Rick made his way to the cruisers to find Michonne talking with Sasha. He slowly approached to catch the tail end of their conversation.

That is bullshit and you know it Chonne, he only got the promotion because he's a white man! Girl, you know you deserve it and that he only got it because he's "a good ole southern gentleman", tsk! said Sasha in a mocking manner.

Michonne let out a soft laugh before shaking her head at her friends' words and sighed, before she could say anything back Rick cleared his throat making his presences known to the two women.

Hey Richard, Sasha said staring him down, You need something, Deputy? Sasha questioned making Michonne giggle at her friend's antics.

Rick sighed and looked at Sasha with his signature squint and head tilt; As a matter fact I do, I want you and Shane to go on patrol together from now on... Michonne, you're with me.

Sasha and Michonne looked at him in disbelief. Michonne was about to say something but decided not to since she knows she won't be able to change his mind when it's made up.

That's bullshit, me and Michonne have been doing patrol together since day one! Why are you changing it now!? Sasha said. Rick looked between Sasha and Michonne and said Because it's what I want, and after all I am a "good ole southern boy" he said letting the women know he'd heard some of their conversation, Rick smirked to himself as he walked, swaying his hips confidently, back inside the building.

Michonne looked at Sasha and rolled her eyes, irritated with Rick's intrusion into their conversation.

He's such a dick, Ricky Dicky is what his name should be, he's always been that way…so fucking vindictive I'm going to talk to Hershel about this, Michonne said.

Sasha took out a cigarette and started smoking it, letting the nicotine run its course and relax her, Girl why did you even come back to this backwoods ass town? They ain't got shit out here besides white boys and that dry ass bar…what's it called again, the OK Corral or some shit?

Michonne laughed at her friend's brashness. You're talking about the KCC and aren't you married to one of them "white boys" she stated matter-of-fact while taking a puff of Sasha's cigarette.

Yeah, Sasha said looking at her ring smiling sweetly. Yea I don't know how he got me, Sasha said chuckling to herself.

Michonne looked at her and sighed, C'mon let's get back inside before Deputy Ricky Dicky Grimes comes back out here.

Both the women made their way inside while talking about nothing in particular.

When they finally got back into the office, Shane was eyeing Sasha with a smirk. Sasha made her way to her desk walking past him rolling her eyes. As Abraham and Glenn watched.

Michonne went directly to Herschel's office to discuss the changes that Rick had made only to be told Rick's word is law.

She went to her desk and started burying herself in her work, something she did when she was stressed or irritated. The day went on with nothing eventful happening besides a few calls of cats in trees, prank calls, and calls of about disturbances that turned out to be nothing.

10:00 pm hits and everyone starts to clock out for the weekend as the night crew comes in to take over for the group. Abraham, Sasha, Maggie, Glenn, Andrea and Shane all head to their vehicles.

Just as they're walking out, Shane and Abraham start yelping and celebrating the freedom of not being stuck behind their desks anymore. Maggie, Sasha, and Andrea discuss going to the King County Corral. It was the perfect weather for a night out on the town after a long week of working so hard to protect the citizens of their small town.

Hey man, a bunch of us are going out tonight you in? Shane asked Rick.

Rick sighed and said Nah, Lori she'll uh…she'll get worried if I'm out too long.

Shane wrapped his arm around Rick's shoulders as they walked and talked towards the cars.

Cmon man, we barely see you as it is. Everyone's gonna be there and I'll even buy you a beer man. C'mon it'll be just like the old days, just you and me…hell even Michonne's gonna be there and she never comes out, Shane said laughing, Man you remember that party we went to in sophomore year and you two got wasted? the next day, you swore you two made it to 3rd base! Shane said on the verge of laughing.

Rick sighed, I got my bases mixed, okay? Rick bit his cheek and laughed at the memory Shane brought up, She puked in my lap, Rick admitted shaking his head before agreeing to go with Shane.

Only for an hour or two, Shane. Alright. Rick stated knowing his friend would keep him out all night if he let him.
