This will be a flashback chapter.

Chapter 4

As Michonne sat in class listening to Mr. Ratburn berate the classroom about their behavior noted by the substitute teacher the day before, Michonne couldn't help but to stare into space thinking about her prom outfit and her crush Mike Anthony a well-built melanated teenaged boy who in the same grade as her but was a few years older, she drooled thinking about the older boy. A kid in her class nudged her as the teacher was calling her name. Michonne came to only to find the entire class looking in her direction, her face began to flush red making her cheeks a pinkish hue. After math class Michonne made her way to gym class, getting dressed in a gym shirt and shorts, once Michonne was dressed she quickly went to find her best friend Jacqui.

Michonne and Jacqui began jogging around the gym room for the morning warmup while they ran at a snail's pace, they begin gossiping about the hottest boys in school.

Michonne: I wish mike would just ask me to prom already!

Jacqui: I'm sure he's going to ask you; I'm just going asking Theodore, she said with a shrug.

Michonne giggled knowing her friend wasn't very fond of Theodore but he was always really nice to them whenever they interacted.

Michonne: why not go with someone you actually like?

Jacqui: girl, do you not know where we are, people with our skin color got to stick together besides my momma would have a heart attack if I bring home a white boy, and I love my momma.

Michonne laughed at her friend's honesty, before she could say anything back the gym teacher blew the whistle indicating the warmup was over and gym class was starting.

As the girls are playing double Dutch Michonne notices Shane and rick watching them and she waves to rick, as Jacqui watched their interaction and shaking her head, messing up her rhythm.

Chonne pay attention! Jacqui said with an exaggerated shake of the ropes.

Michonne: girl don't do too much c'mon.

Michonne stood on the outside of the ropes getting ready to jump in when Shane and rick came running behind them tickling their ribs making them scream and giggle, the girls playfully hit the boys as they ran out of the gym room as the gym teacher blew her whistle at them.

After gym class the last bell rung alerting the kids it was time to go home. Michonne gathered her things and she met up with Jacqui outside the school, as the two girls stood talking to their friends Michonne noticed rick and Shane walking to Shane's dad car she ran over to them to say goodbye.

Michonne greeted rick with a playful shove: hey cowboy, you're leaving so soon, me and Jacqui are going to the basketball game tonight you guys coming?

Rick: nah I can't I have to help my folks with something

c'mon man you'll have all of high school to do that crap work, besides don't your parents know child labor is illegal, Shane stated rubbing the back of his head.

Rick: man, I can't! I have to help my folks man.

Michonne sighed accepting his answer.

Rick: I'll make sure to come over after I finish my homework ok Michonne

Before Michonne could answer mike came over to the trio and looked directly at Michonne who was trying not to freak out.

Mike: hey Michonne would you want to be my date for prom?

Rick watched in disbelief as the person he was planning to take to prom was getting asked out right in front of him, rick prayed and hoped Michonne would say no, but it must've fallen on deaf ears.

Michonne visibly blushing: yes!

Rick and Shane watched as mike put a corsage around Michonne's wrist and kissed her hand before walking away ignoring Shane dissing at him.

Michonne squealed before running off to tell Jacqui everything, after a few minutes of telling Jacqui everything Michonne looked in the direction she last saw rick only to find he had left, with that the two girls walked home.

Later that evening, Michonne and Jacqui are getting ready to go to game, and Michonne's mother lets her know she has a phone call.

Michonne takes the phone and hears that it's Mike and starts secretly freaking out but quickly calms down.

Michonne: hey Mike

Mike: hey terry said you and cowboy were going to the dance is that true

Michonne: what! no rick isn't going and how could I be going with rick If I'm going with you?

Mike: oh yeah, what's up with you and him anyways? you guys are always together every time I see you?

Michonne: we grew up together he's practically my brother, she giggled, besides I'm pretty sure that jessie girl has a huge fat crush on him, she's always watching him at recess.

Mike and Michonne laughed thinking of jessie stalking rick.

Mike: you wanna be my girl?

Michonne: huh, you mean like a girlfriend and you would be my boyfriend?

Mike: yeah, you seem cool and I like that.

Michonne: yeah…. I mean yes, I'd love to be mike. Michonne started blushing as Jacqui sat next her trying to hear the conversation.

Mike: I'm going to the game to tonight you down?

Michonne: yeah, me and Jacqui are down for whatever

Mike: coo I'll bring my homie terry and we can make it a double date

Michonne let out an excited squeak and looked at Jacqui before agreeing.

Michonne: pick me up in an hour?

Mike: yeah, I'll let my brother know where you live.

With that the phone call ended and both girls started jumping and screaming excitedly.

An hour passed and Michonne along with Jacqui sat outside waiting, when a car pulled up, mike got out the car and held the back door open for the two girls. While in the car the girls sat nervously talking amongst themselves, listening to the loud raunchy music. At the game Jacqui and terry sat awkwardly in the bleachers, while Michonne and mike make out. Once the game finished with the home team winning mike Jacqui Michonne and terry celebrated at a party thrown at mikes house. While at the party mike takes Michonne to his room for nefarious activities, leaving Jacqui sitting alone. After the party mike drove Jacqui home first, mike parked the car in a random parking. He and Michonne proceeded to make out some more when mike started getting too aggressive and handsy and Michonne pushed him off.

Mike: what?

Michonne: you're touching me too much

mike stroked Michonne's chin looking in her eyes: Michonne you're my girl and we've made that official tonight remember.

Michonne sighed feeling dirty for losing her v card before she was ready and closed herself off asking mike to take her home.

Mike looked at Michonne and rolled his eyes sighing: yo, you serious?

Michonne looked at him feeling guilty for making him upset looking down.

Mike smacked his lips before saying, I should've known you wasn't down.

The car pulled up outside Michonne's house and she stepped out looking back to say goodbye to him only for him to close the door in her face before speeding off.

Michonne went into her home to find her mother waiting up for her.

Mama H: Michonne where have you been it is nearly 1 in the morning?

Michonne jumped startled at the sudden mention of her name, gasping and holding her chest.

Michonne: mom you scared me she said chuckling some friends and I went to uh Dennys to celebrate our win after the game.

Mama H: Michonne Sharice Hawthorn I'm going to ask you one more time where have you been?

Michonne eyes widen at her government name being spoken and she gulped visibly shaken: mom I told you, we went to Dennys.

Michonne's mom excepted her daughters explanation knowing her sweet innocent little girl was lying and sent her upstairs, as Michonne walked past her mom she left a stench of marijuana and cigarettes.

Mama H: and take a shower! child.

Once Michonne finished her shower, she got dressed in her pjs and cried herself to sleep.

The following Monday, Michonne went to school, dreading seeing mike but she was ignored by him all day, when she tried to talk to him about Friday night, he told her to leave him alone and get lost. By the end of the school day Michonne felt stupid and used after learned that mike and terry had a bet going on and mike won, after learning this devastating news she stayed to herself for the rest of the day.

When the school day ended, Michonne immediately began walking home. Halfway through her walk she got the feeling she wasn't alone, catching a glimpse of someone's arm she looked to her side to see rick walking with her she smiled to herself happy to see him.

Hey, she said

Hey, you ok? he asked

Michonne thought about her answer and shook her head yes. You?

Yeah, rick responded giving her a half smile. Rick slid his hand in hers to comfort her, Michonne smiled at him softly before taking her hand back, causing rick to become irritated and put his hands in his jacket pockets.

Rick: Michonne I've been wanting to ask you something awhile now. He took a deep shaky breath and closed his eyes relaxing himself, once he opened his eyes, he saw her looking at him, he could see the sadness in her deep brown eyes.

Rick: Michonne Sharice Hawthorn, will you go to our middle school prom with me? he pulled handmade sign from his pocket to hand it to her but she knocked it away.

Michonne looked at rick with tears swelling in her eyes, rick I can't go to prom not after today I can't even show my face at that stupid fucking school!, Michonne said with tears falling down her face. I feel so stupid mike used me and I was dumb enough to let him.

At this point Michonne is bawling her eyes out and rick hugs her letting her cry all over his shoulder.

Rick: chonne c'mon I wanna show you something.

Rick took Michonne's hand and led her into an abandoned library with the inside covered in Christmas lights and drawings with stacks of comic books, rick led Michonne into the fiction section, where a makeshift bed was on the floor. Michonne looked at rick curiously while wiping tears away and sniffling.

What's this? She asked

Rick: this is my place, this is where I go, I was gonna show it to Shane but he'd probably bring all his girlfriend's back here.

Michonne looked around in awe and flipped through a few comics.

Michonne: rick this place is really cool, she couldn't help but to get excited. Thank you!

She hugged him tightly and he returned the gesture smiling. As Michonne sat her backpack down she grabbed a comic laying back on the makeshift bed settling in, rick smiled at her also grabbing his own comic before lying next to her, he looked at her side profile taking in her beauty, happy that he could make her smile and forget the day's events.
