Well, kids, I've got a special story for you tonight. Our story starts a couple of years after your Mama defeated the Voidwolf, and your Mama and I were going on a much-needed romantic dinner date on Nar Shaddaa. You see, we'd been keeping up a rather grueling pace of deliveries in between meeting up with suppliers and making deals with independent contractors. It had been over two months since we'd even gone planetside for anything other than business, and I'd gone all out, pulled out all the stops-flowers, romantic music, private table, dinner of all your Mama's favorite foods!
...And then we got a holocall. Now, the Captain, being the Captain, gets lots of holocalls from a lot of very important people. She has senators on speed dial, you understand. She's very good about making people feel special and making deals, and one of the ways she does that is by working directly with them. But for this night, she'd silenced her comm and only a few people could ring through, and they all knew we were busy. So who do you suppose it was?
UNCLE GUSS!
That's right, kids, Uncle Guss. Your Uncle Guss interrupted our dinner date with what he described as a tiny problem.
If it was such a tiny problem, why'd he call Mama then?
That's exactly what I said, Maddie! But as he turned the holo around to show us what was going on, we realized that he was about to be overrun by gangsters! Apparently, he'd decided that while your Mama and I were busy, that would be the best time to do a little bit of dealing on his own. He took some of the goods he'd kept stashed away on the Skylark and reached out to a few of the people he knew would be interested. No problem, right? Except that they BOTH wanted the supplies he had to offer. He went with the best deal, of course, but the Kintan Kings didn't take no for an answer. They crashed his delivery to a rival gang and a fight broke out. Guss wasn't overrun, not yet, but he knew that the Kings had a lot of guys and he was afraid that they'd kill him, so he called your Mama.
Well, the Captain has a heart bigger than a Wookie's appetite, so when she saw that Guss was in trouble, she INSISTED that we go and help him out. I tried to stop her, of course, because I didn't want her doing nothing dangerous, but she looked at me with a crazy glint in her eye and she said, "Corso Riggs, you have five seconds to get me a speeder or I will stun you and leave you behind!"
OH NO!
She meant business, and I knew it, so I agreed, but I made her promise to stay behind me and use her stealth field generator. So we zoomed off towards the private hanger, which was only a few minutes away from us. We landed outside and the Kings immediately started taking potshots at me from the upper windows. It's a strategy me and your Mama have used in the past. I draw their attention while she sneaks around and takes them out from behind. Worked like a charm, just like always. When they realized that they were being attacked from all sides and they had no idea how many of us there were or where the shots were coming from, they cut their losses.
Now, as soon as they left, Guss popped out of his hidey hole and started making excuses, telling us how he didn't know that this would happen and how it weren't his fault. Your Mama is usually pretty patient with Guss, on account of how he makes her laugh and all, but this time she smacked him round the head and told him to shut up and get her a speeder. You see, the Captain was pregnant, and Rosie was due to arrive very soon. Sometime in between sneaking in and chasing off those gangsters, your Mama felt things change inside of her and she knew that she needed to get herself to the hospital right quick.
You were lucky I waited until you were on planet!
Maybe a little, Rosie, but we had a meddroid on the Skylark, of course, and we'd always intended to make berth someplace and wait until everthing was finished. That's why we'd come to Nar Shaddaa in the first place! So Guss ran off to find a shuttle or speeder while I made sure your Mama was alright. He comes zooming back with a cute little private speeder, just barely big enough for the three of us.
Four, you mean, with Rosie!
Three, I wasn't born yet.
FOUR!
Well, ANYWAYS, the whole group of us got on the speeder and your Mama wanted to fly BUT she was a bit uncomfortable so every few minutes, she'd make me grab the helm and keep us steady while she was distracted. We got to the hospital, and Guss scooped the Captain up and rushed her right inside while I'm still trying to unfold myself from the back seat. I get in there, and he's already got them droids and doctors in a tizzy, taking care of your Mama and calling him "Master Jedi" and all. He's spinning this crazy yarn involving gangsters and stolen medicine from children and normally your Mama plays along because she thinks he's funny, but that day, she'd HAD ENOUGH. She gave him a look, just one, and he closed his mouth in the middle of his story and said, "I gotta go take care of the speeder" and headed on his way right quick.
Well, me and the Captain were taken back to a very nice room, and soon enough the droids had your Mama all hooked up and ready to go. We just had to wait a while for things to get farther along. Now that your Mama was settled, we were both really excited to meet our little girl. I got to sit and hold the Captain's hand. Soon enough, it was time. The Doctor came in, and out popped the tiniest little sprite of a girl with a tuft of red hair, just like her Mama. I used to think that I couldn't love anyone as much as I loved the Captain, but when I saw her, my heart grew as big as a star and I knew I was changed forever.
Your Uncle Guss spent the next few months making things up to me and your Mama. He kept bringing presents by and doing favors until the Captain took pity on him and told him she'd forgiven him ages ago. He promised to keep out of trouble in the future, and while he's surely not done that, he HAS managed to keep himself safe each time the other kids arrived!
Anyways, I love you kids. You are ALL very precious to me. Goodnight.
A/N: Well, folks, that's all for now. Thanks for coming along on the journey with me. I've still got several chapters I intend to write for this story, as well as a couple of one-shots from the Captain's perspective, but that won't be for a very long time. I'm happy with what I've got for now. I hope that ya'll have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
My next projects will involve the Sith Inquisitor. I'm going to be resuming work on Book 2, Drommund Kaas, and I still have a couple of one-shots/short stories outlined for the "To Be A" series in the back of my brain. I've also got the Black Talon started, although that won't be published until after my coauthor finishes the proejct he's currently undertaking! We're having a great time telling the stories of this universe :)
