NICK MORTON NEVER SURRENDERS
This is a continuing story that explores Nick's mixed feelings about smart Jenny and sexy Ahmanet. Please comment nicely!
"Oh God! Oh please, I can't keep up. Nick, slow down. Please!" Jenny Halsey was out of breath, her lungs begging for oxygen. The slim, blonde, erudite lady scientist clutched her companion's sleeve, ready to collapse as they reached the shade of the oasis.
"She's coming," Nick Morton said flatly. He didn't even look at the beautiful blonde sprawled on the sand, still catching her breath. Instead the lean, bronzed soldier of fortune studied the desert horizon, like a general determined never to surrender.
"Who's coming?" Jenny reached for her canteen, her dry lips and parched throat almost clamoring for moisture. But only a few trickling drops were left, barely enough to wet her tongue.
"Ahmanet." The single word was like a dark cloud on the horizon.
"She can't – she can't claim you for her own. Not anymore!" Jenny's voice was hoarse, her breathing still heavy. Nick passed her his canteen and watched as she drank in deep, greedy gulps. "Nick, you've got to believe me. Dr. Jekyll and I made sure to recite the proper spells, blocking her way out of the underworld. The evil princess is buried beneath the sand forever!"
Nick looked at Jenny. The pain-in-the-ass blonde scientist just wouldn't quit. No matter what he did, he just couldn't shake her. She really thought she could protect him. Nick liked that. He flashed a devilish smile. "You set up camp. I'm going to look around, make sure we're alone."
"Nick, come back here!" But it was no use. The fortune hunter was gone before Jenny could even hand back his canteen.
Off in the distance, a cloud was approaching. Not a cloud of cooling rain, but a dry cloud of darkness and forbidden whispers. Nick didn't try to run, not this time. This time he knew there was no escape.
"She wants me," he thought, as the cloud closed in. Darkness enveloped his mind and soul. "She wants me."
"I want you." Even as the dust began to sting his face and whip around his body, Nick fought the enticements of the ancient queen.
"I don't want you," his mind insisted. "I don't want any woman."
"Liar!" Ahmanet began to rain down scorpions on his naked body.
Nick resisted the urge to defend his naked flesh. He let the ancient demon tear at his body until the pain made him lose consciousness. Never once did he give in to Ahmanet.
Jenny Halsey was asleep when he returned to camp. Her textbook knowledge of the ancient curse was not the same as his inner knowledge of the woman Ahmanet. Evil desires surged inside the ancient woman's accursed flesh, desires left still unquenched when she retreated back to her tomb. Perhaps she would return some day. But Nick knew his desires could only be quenched by the daring woman scientist who slept in the moonlight.
