Skye, Lily, and Zuma all arrived back at the River Camp, It was a classic sight all three two glad to be back at. It was as if nothing had changed since they left, as it should be. The whole small village didn't need to know they were helping an FBI Agent after all, Skye and Zuma had spotted a familiar dog, a familiar dog that stood tall on his four paws, White all around with black spots, playing in the field with puppies and kittens. "Mawshall!" Zuma had shouted, The dalmatian had turned in his head in the sudden sound of his name to see It was his friends. "Skye, Zuma!" Marshall suddenly broke away from whatever game was involved in to run and give his friends the most love filled hug he could muster.
"I wanted to hug you guys for so long, It feels awesome being back on my feet" Marshall stated, Skye and Zuma chuckled, thankful to see their friends on his paws once again and in good spirits still. "He's quite the runner I must say" A female voice came in, It was Ell the Irish Setter, her brown fur was waving with the breeze as she stumbled up to the group. "Ell, Where's Klaus?" Lily asked.
"Down by the Riverside, Why ask Lily?" She asked back with a titled in her head.
"We're going to organize a plan to free their friend from the Sheriff's Department in town, We'll need all paws on deck if we're going to pull this off" Lily summarized, Ell was taken back by such a draft of a plan, including Marshall. The Dalmatian couldn't believe his ears, thinking of only one person she couldn't be talking about. "You guys are going rescue Ryder?" He asked.
"That's right" Skye nodded as well as Zuma.
"Well then, count me in, I'm more than ready and more than capable of this" Marshall said flexing out his body, showing off just how much he's healed since then. "Alright Marshall, You're in" Skye said, getting an ecstatic burst of joy from the Dalmatian.
"Lets find Klaus, There's no way he can say no to this plan" Lily was sure of it.
"No"
"What?" All the dogs said in unison as well as Lily who had been the one to actually tell Klaus the plan, They all couldn't believe it. She explained the plan, every loose end tied and no room for flaws, It was almost better than perfect.
"B-But Klaus, It's a good plan. We can organize a protest outside the Sheriff's Office to get their attention. Then you can lead them down the road and into the park away from the building while some of us break in and sneak Ryder out. With the cover of night, We can slip in easier, and some deputies will even be tired"
"I said No, I can't allow that" Klaus still remained stubborn, He was surrounded by dogs that thought otherwise, they were all for the plan. Whether they were blinded by the hope of rescuing Ryder or something else, Klaus was the odd one out. However, it still relied on him, most of the village relied on his word and leadership. If he said no, Then no dog or cat would follow.
"Klaus please, Think of our friend Ryder, as well as the other innocent cats that are probably in there too." Skye reminded, of course Ryder wasn't the only person in there that was in need of saving. Knowing the Sheriff's department and how they operate, there were a ton of cats locked up merely for just associating with the dogs.
"I hurts my heart everyday to think about what they're going through, but I won't sacrifice anyones life like that again" Klaus said sternly as everyone else turned their head in confusion over that last word.
"Again?" A few asked together before another familiar feline broke into the conversation, It was alto, The village's only certified doctor.
"About a year ago, Klaus organized a big crowd of dogs and cats outside the Sheriff's Department to protest the fact the Sheriff was going implement new anti-dog policies. In the end, a lot of dogs were arrested and a lot more were hurt" Alto said.
"Klaus got injured, but he managed to get away" Alto added on, looking over a Klaus who seemed to be out of focus, he started off into a corner of the room that was empty, his eyes were blank and soulless, like he remembers that day vividly.
"Yeah, I did. It was a lucky thing nevertheless, and I don't want to cause anything like that again" Klaus the cat said.
"I can't believe you Klaus, You've been passionate about Dogs being treated equally, but when it comes down to doing something other than sing songs around a campfire, you're just a coward." Skye growled, her tone was sharp, and her words did in fact sting. The whole room fell silent as they all looked back at Klaus, who seemed to really be affected by this.
"I suppose Skye, that you are right about this. I really do mean well when I want to keep all the dogs out of harm's way, but there's just other things on my mind I can't get over" Klaus confessed with a sigh.
"Whatever you're going through, Just know you wont be alone and at least one of us can relate to something you're feeling" Ell stated.
"I don't think any of you will, but you're right Lily and Skye, We'll do this one time and that's it" The feline asked, even in his voice he wasn't so sure of himself either as he refused to look up at the dogs that were in front of him.
"That's okay, One is all we need. Marshall, Skye, Zuma, Your roles in this are going to be extremely important. I can't stress how perfectly this needs to play out for this to work for everyone to get out safe and unharmed" Lily started.
"Didn't know you were much of a planner Lily" Ell pointed out, not very used to Lily being so serious instead of jolly. "O-Oh, I-I just do this sort of thing in my spare time, you know, when helping out with a big smile" Lily reverted with the biggest and just about the most fake smile there ever was. Lily turned her head away, cringing away at how on earth she would ever put up with her own fake persona.
Skye and Zuma looked at each other and smiled, knowing it was all an act but it was still amusing to watch as the feline buffered on her own half-baked excuse. "Is there something up with her?" Marshall silently asked over to Zuma and Skye, picking up a weird feeling that the two dogs knew already.
"We'll explain later"
"If sneaking into the Department is what you want, I may have something that can help" Klaus said, taking a few steps away from the table to come back with a small box. Gently taking off the lid and tipping it over, letting its contents fall onto the table. It didn't make much of a noise, It was just photos of the different angles of the building. They all looked puzzle but as they looked at the pictures, these werent just taken a random, each photo had something of emphasize about how they could break in. Like a window being open for more of the door, or a back door having a slightly damaged lock, or even a sewer tunnel.
"Woah, Where'd you get these Klaus?" Ell asked, astonished at the level of detail each pictures gave, new ideas started to spring into Lily's head as he pondered.
"One of our trusted members of Commune, Mr. Maple, he'd take pictures of anything he'd see and send it to us, he was a great help before the Sheriff's Department got him" The feline leader said, Skye, Marshall, and Zuma all looked at each other guilty and embarrassment, knowing they had a paw to play in Mr. Maple getting arrested, being tricked by Lou in the first place.
"These photos are gonna help a lot, I'm already seeing some better ideas" Lily said with a smirk, picking up photo after another and comparing them, thinking which one would give them the best entrance.
Meanwhile back in town, at top the tower in the highest floor. Griffin the mayor continuously tapped his pen against his desk, of course as the head of the county he was expected to oversee a lot of things, paperwork was anyone's enemy whether they liked it or not. Mostly the mundane things he was used to signing off this and signing in that, things he was used to.
It had be quiet, it was just a few hours ago that those two dogs had somehow snuck into his secured tower. He looked back through the large wall like window behind him, it was many stories down and quite the fall if the glass somehow gave way. He looked down to see many police cars at the front, their lights flashing but their blaring sirens weren't there. There was a sense of duty but no urgency. The orange glow of the horizon gave a satisfying gaze as the day was coming to an end after so much had already happened.
Suddenly Griffin's ears perked as he heard a knock on his office down, gently setting down his pen as he whipped his tail back and forth slowly in a hypnotic type of way to easy himself. "Cmon in" He raised his voice, In came Lou and Sheriff Reno.
"I'm sorry Griffin, They got away for now. However, they wont again, I promise. I just need a little bit more time, I already have an informant in their little camp gaining intel as well speak" Reno spoke, not even waiting for the mayor to even acknowledge what had gone wrong, he already knew. Griffin stared at his furiously, he glance hadn't change, suddenly eyeing Lou with a changed an calm demeanor.
"Lou, Did Ryder sign the documents yet?" He asked.
"No, Aunty Susanna said to give her a few more hours. She said by the end of the day he shouldn't have signed it" Lou replied, respectful with his hands behind his back even though he didn't have to, this was his adopted father after all. The attitude was different between a person like him a Griffin rather than Reno.
"My sister has always made good on her promises, if she says tonight, then I believe her. Stay down at the Sheriff's Department as soon as the document is signed, afterwards, take it straight to Maxwell so he can sign it off" Griffin ordered.
"Okay Dad" He said with a smile as he turned around and walked back out his office, door closing it shut leaving the two felines to discuss real business. "Reno…"
"Sir, you have to believe me, I had no idea how those dogs got in. They must have had some sort of insider to get them through security at the gate, I'm still trying to figure that out"
"For God's sake Reno, This isn't rocket science!" Griffin exploded, reaching over across his desk to grab a television remote. Turning to his side to turn on a TV that was hung on the wall. It came on, instant what it showed was a helicopter view from the news showing a burning police car off the highway.
"As you can see here, The Sheriff's Office has recovered the stolen police car that was used by dogs to break into the Mayor's Tower. One is described as a Dalmatian, a Cockapoo, and a cat with brown and orange fur. No Official with the Sheriff's Department has commented as of yet, but experts aren't ruling out that the extremist dog group down by the County River may have had a paw in this" The news reporter said, showing the images of many deputies pulled off to the side of the highway where the car was found, torched and abandoned.
Reno cringed at the embarrassment of it all, he knew his department messed up on security and he wouldn't make that mistake again. Griffin turned off the Television and slid the remote back across from him on his desk. "You know who it was, It was that hippie cat, What was his name again?" Griffin tapped at his temple, urging his brain to think.
Reno's tail in-between his legs, he was scared he would call out that name he didn't want to hear, the name he feared for all day. "Klaus, That's his name. I know you've been too much of a pussy cat to actually arrest him. He's been a thorn in my side for far too long and enough is enough" Griffin stated, looking back at Reno to see him cowering slightly.
"Is there a problem Reno?" He asked, still with his threatening and menacing tone. "I-I-I just, Of course not, I'll uhh….get that done, sir" He replied with his heart pounding, he had only said the words Griffin had wanted to hear, not the words that were true.
"Good, I don't know why you've been shying away from that cat. You said it yourself earlier in our meeting, why not just roll into their poor excuse of a village and arrest them all. You're perfectly fine with that, but when it comes to that one cat, you just cower and stay silent, why is that?" He asked, calming himself a bit more to ease the tension.
"Just Issues, sir"
"Well what ever those Issues are, solve them, I won't sacrifice this plan because of some Issue you have" Griffin said, relaxing back into his office chair as he flicked his paw at the Sheriff, gesturing him away. "You're dismissed" He ended.
Reno swallowed a golf ball sized wad of anxiety as he turned himself around back out the door, He wasn't going to see to his orders of arresting Klaus. He didn't want to do that, he was right though, there was more than enough evidence to suggest Klaus was a part of this incident, but Reno just couldn't bring himself to it. He had admiration for Klaus, he wanted to protect him, shield him from harm, like some sort of inner responsibility.
Tuska sat back in his chair in the sheriff's department, It was only a few hours ago that protest started to simmer down, Busy typing away his report of what happened, he'd much rather be out in the field than stuck type away a word salad, but it came with the job and there was no way to dodge that responsibility. The feline groaned, every now and then he'd get stuck on what to detail. "This is the worst" He groaned.
"Deputy Tuska, Report to my Officer immediately, Now" Tuska heard over the PA System, Every Deputy around him seeming to have their ears perk up at the sound and the mention of their comrade's name being called to the Sheriff's upstairs office. "What's he want me for?" He asked himself out loud, getting up and making his way over to the stairs.
It was quite odd, maybe he thought he was going to be recognized for something he did, remembering his 10 codes well over the radio, keeping his patrol car cleaner than usual. The possibilities for something like that were endless, however it did go both ways.
He arrived at this superior's door, knocking first before walking in. Slowly peaking in as he saw the Sheriff sitting by his desk staring directly at the front door. His face hadn't changed since he walked, he was expressionless and unamused. He'd never been in a situation like this before with the Sheriff's, thinking this is how he normally acted when he wanted to talk to someone. "Y-You want to me sir?" He asked.
Reno didn't answer, he continued to stare, only gesturing his paw to Tuska to come closer away from the door. Tuska closed the door behind him and paced over the other side of his desk. There were two chairs facing inward toward the desk. Tuska eyed the two of them positioning himself to take a seat. "Did I tell you to sit?" The Sheriff finally spoke, his tone very menacing. Tuska immediately throwing himself away from the chair and make onto his four paws.
"I-Im sorry Sheriff, I just thought that-"He tried to justify himself before he was shut up once more.
"No, you don't think think, That's your problem. Is there an ounce of a decent thought in that pathetic brain of yours?" The Sheriff stated, Tuska didn't speak, what kind of leader would talk like that to one of his workers, sounding more with a bully that wore a shiny badge on his side.
"You arrested someone at the protest, but before you did, he beat him over the head repeatedly like a wild animal, You got any idea who that was?" Sheriff's paws started to shake with anger, Tuska felt his paws grow wear as he opened his mouth to say something, however the fear blocked his mind from any thought, opening his mouth but not saying anything. Suddenly, Reno sprang up from his chair, holding out one paw out at the feline deputy.
In his paw with a small red tube with a black tip, Pepper Spray. It's orange contents sprayed out into Tuska's face. Tuska sprang back in pain and surprise, he could barely breathe as he yelled out in pain. His eyes were closed, but he felt himself falling gently to the ground. "HUH, DO YOU?!" The Sheriff shouted, walking around his desk Tuska could hear.
Tuska got up and tried to back himself away in whatever direction was behind him, backing himself what he felt like was just a cabinet with glass in the doors. Tuska spat each second, trying to get the burning feeling and toxins from out his mouth, all of a suddenly, feeling a blunt and heavy object his side. Reno had retraced his baton and started hitting Tuska, from side to side all around.
"I BET THIS FEELS FAMILIAR DOESN'T IT" The Sheriff shouted. He continued to beat his employee, Tuska had all but given up, slanking down to the floor in an effort to be in a defeated position, giving his boss the mental message that he won and he could stop.
But he was wrong, The Sheriff just wailed on him harder and harder and faster than before with immense aggression in every hit. Reno threw down his baton, getting bored of that metal stick fast as he felt he had done enough damage. Tuska tried to breathe, but each time he felt a bone in his body move in a way that felt unnatural. He twitched with pain and shock, the attack had been so sudden that he brain still tried to comprehend it all. Suddenly just like before, his body was picked up, hearing the Sheriff groan in anger as he did, making him stand up on his hind legs so the two could look each other in the eye.
It didn't take a doctor like Alto to see Tuska needed medical attention bad, the internal bleeding must've been bad as Reno saw swollen and enlarged bumps on the deputy's feline. "HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU DID IT, DID HE FEEL PROUD, DID YOU FEEL ACCOMPLISHED WHEN YOU BEAT MY BROTHER?!" Reno shouted once more as he faced the tall cabinet Tuska had originally bumped into, throwing him right at one of the doors, letting his face smash right into the glass.
The sound of it all was so deafening, Tuska couldn't feel a thing, the adrenaline and shock was so powerful that it took a few seconds for everything to sink in. Soon he felt a warm liquid drip down from the front of his muzzle and down his body, coming down like small fast rivers down onto the wooden floor and getting into his eyes. It was just then deputies started to pile through the Sheriff's doors, checking in on what was going on. They all stood in shock as they saw their boss stand over the deputy, his uniform ragged and his badge crooked.
"DON'T STEP IN" The Sheriff said to the deputies at the door, they all got the message as they stood back. Just watching it all. Reno had knelt down facing Tuska who stared into his eyes with fear, his fur was bloody, and he was a mess of a cat. "S-S-Sir, Please…I-"
"You mess with my brother, I make your life a living hell. I made an oath to protect my brother when he was in my life. I don't give a damn that he associates with the dogs, I don't give a damn that he leads them. Klaus, that's his name, and I'll gut any cat that dares to even lay a claw on him" Reno stated, all the deputies stood by as they even shook in fear.
Reno reached down and pulled the badge from Tuska's cat uniform, letting it tear a piece of fabric with it too. "Arrest him" Reno ordered, backing away from Tuska as he motioned to the other deputies. "Y-Yes sir" One of them said, finally stepping in but to put cuff on their former friend. "Have him sent to the Concrete Kennel, Also release Klaus from the Jail downstairs" He said.
"But sir, Only Dogs are sent to the Kennel, and Klaus is the leader of the Dogs"
"Did I stutter?" Reno looked back with the same death stare; The deputy froze for a second before obeying. "No sir, Right away" He replied as two deputies pick up Tuska who now fell in and out of consciousness, of the Sheriff's office. "Back to work everyone!" The Sheriff shouted, with a single question they all had scattered away, not even sticking around somewhere else on the second floor.
