Charles enjoyed going to the restaurant from time to time, and made a point of inviting at least one of his students each time, to create a special bond with each of them. Tonight however, he invited one of the adults as well. Not quite a teacher, but someone who was spending more and more time at the institute, without a real purpose. On the other hand, was that new student who stayed mainly to have a glimpse of this someone, but never talked to him.
Charles wanted everyone to feel at peace with themselves. Therefore, he asked Erik and Pietro to come with him. Separately. They both agreed. Erik mainly wanted to flirt with Charles, while Pietro wanted to learn more about Erik. Well. They would be able to speak with each other this time. And no-one will run away.
"Hello Pietro, how was your day? Charles asked as Pietro joined him in the mansion's yard.
– Hi Professor! It was okay, I guess? I didn't break anything if you wondered!
– I didn't." He answered with a smile.
"Hm… Are we waiting for something?
– Rather someone. Ah, there he is."
Pietro turned back and watched in a mix of awe and horror as Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto, aka his dad-who-doesn't-know-he-has-children-still-alive was walking towards them.
"Good evening Charles. Pietro. I didn't know you'd come with us.
– Yeah I didn't know about you either, man.
– And I'm sure you're both okay with dining with each other and myself in a fine restaurant, right? Now, could we move? Our reservation begins in 15 minutes."
They both nodded, Pietro still glancing at Erik not knowing how to act or what to say. He didn't want to be too foolish around him, but he knew he couldn't repress his nature for too long. He was a speedster. He needed to move. Pietro was even tempted to run through the streets to the restaurant in order to order his mind, but he knew Charles wouldn't be happy about that. And his car was really fancy.
Upon their arrival at the restaurant, someone parked their car and the three of them were placed at their table. Rich life was really something else. The look in Erik's face made Pietro feel better however. He seemed to be as bewildered as himself. At least, he wasn't the only one who didn't know how to act in this type of place.
"You didn't have to book such a restaurant, Charles.
– Yeah, I know. I just wanted a nice location for our little chat."
Pietro and Erik looked at each other before Pietro turned his head violently, blushing at the implication. Surely Charles wasn't going to say to Erik what he was trying to keep secret? Even though he was a telepath, he hasn't the right to disclose things like that! He threw a panicked glance at Charles, but the tranquility in Charles' eyes was soothing. Yeah… It surely was something else.
After the waitress took their command, Erik turned over Charles.
"So… Was it something in particular that you wanted to discuss with both of us?
– Not specifically. How are you doing? Pietro, I know you're struggling sometimes with sleeping, is everything alright?
– Well, I guess so?" He glanced at Erik again. "I mean, sometimes I just need to run some miles. Or eat something.
– Maybe you need to exercise more during the day?" Proposed Erik, watching Pietro with interest.
"The last time I tired myself exercising, I ended up sleeping for three days. So… I'm not very fond of this technique.
– Maybe you should know your limits and for this, you will have to understand your powers. Are any of your parents a mutant or are you the first in your family? An older mutant could've helped you while growing up."
Pietro stared at Erik, not knowing what to say or why this subject was brought to light. In the meantime, their dishes had arrived and Charles was eating quietly, watching them.
"Well… My mom isn't, for sure. And my biological father kinda is, but he didn't raise me, so… Noone really helped me. Or my sister.
– You have a sister?"
Oups. He wasn't supposed to reveal that. Even Charles seemed surprised. Didn't he know?
"Actually, she's my twin sister, but… yeah. We did help each other though!
– Hm. Well, maybe I could help you with your powers. Mine was complicated to get at first too.
– Really?
– Obviously, don't imagine it was easy to master magnetic fields."
Pietro smiled at him, before returning to his plate. The waitress came then to take back the empty plates, by putting them on a tray. On her way, she tripped on the floor and all the plates began to fall. Erik reached out and suspended all the plates in the air before they reached the ground, putting them back on the tray while the waitress steadied herself.
"Wow!" said Pietro, looking at the act in awe
"Oh my… Thank you sir, I… I'm so sorry!" the waitress said, rushing to the kitchen after thanking Erik.
"That was very impressive Erik, I'm proud of you." Added Charles, smiling to his old friend and more.
"Yeah! You're so cool!
– I am?
– Of course, dad– Uh I mean man!" Pietro stared at the man once known as Magneto, hoping that he didn't get the first bit, that he was talking too fast for him.
"Why thank you both. Even though it clearly wasn't that hard. That's what I'm talking about, Pietro. When you understand your powers you're more capable of doing things instinctively and trusting yourself to act.
– You may be right.
– Then, that's settled!" announced Charles, looking at the pair. "Erik, I officially ask you to become a tutor at the school. Your first mission shall be to help Pietro to be more at ease with his powers so that he can easily follow classes and sleep at night. Would you do it?
– I will."
When the waitress, Kitty Pryde, came back to the kitchen, she gave $20 to Kurt who gave fist bump to Scott at his side.
"I told you so."
