"Pffft! Dude, no way!," Noya started bright and early the next morning. His cackling pulled Ennoshita out of his futon with an annoyed grunt.
"Nishi, shut up," the captain growled.
"No way, dude. Chikara, c'mere you gotta see this," Noya dragged his senior out of bed and over to the side of the room. He was rough but surprisingly deft with how he managed not to trip over anyone or their stuff.
"What the hell is so-pfft!," Ennoshita started laughing then. There on the floor was Tsukishima who was glaring at the both of them something fierce. He absolutely would have gone for a hit, but his arms were both currently occupied. On his left was Yamaguchi, the team's resident cuddler. On his right was someone competing for Yamaguchi's title, with her back to the boy and his arm firmly sandwiched between her own. Both of Tsukishima's barnacles were fast asleep while the boy lay there cursing his poor luck.
"Quit laughing and do something," Tsukishima finally hissed at the two others. Normally he would break free from Yamaguchi by substituting a pillow or something, but with two of them now he was trapped. Yamaguchi he knew how to handle but there was no telling what could happen if Kitsuna was disturbed.
"Haha, that's what you get for all that poking yesterday," Ennoshita smirked down at his teammate. He sent Noya to wake the others and finally helped Tsukishima out, after snapping a quick picture of course.
"Hey, wake up," Ennoshita decided to tackle the Kitsuna problem first. He knelt down and nudged her shoulders, which had the added effect of tormenting Tsukishima in a whole new way. The girl blinked up at him in that dazed way she did so often, then sat up with her eyes still closed. Arm freed, Tsukishima immediately went for the switcheroo with Yamaguchi and made his escape.
"Chikara, whaddya want," Kitsuna whined with a slur. She was starting to nod off again while Ennoshita cursed Tsukishima for leaving him to wake both of the hardest to rouse.
"Gotta get ready for breakfast and morning practice. C'mon," he handed her glasses to her and moved to take care of Yamaguchi.
FInally, once everyone was awake enough to get dressed, they shuffled to the dining hall. Only after sitting down and taking the first bite of her large breakfast, did Kitsuna's eyes finally light up. While most were given some sort of tea, Takeda had slipped her some coffee as well. There was some ill sentiment from around the room at that until she took the first sip and a dopey smile spread over her face.
"Take, you spoil her too much," Yukie, the Fukurodani manager, teased the teacher.
"Well, we all do," Kaori, the second manager for Fukurodani, added her input. She was right, but sometimes they just couldn't help it. Looking at her now it was easy to see how she got her teacher and so many others wrapped around her finger. Her hair was a mess, though. That would need to be taken care of before she started practice, the mop of reddish curls sticking out in so many directions.
"Oh man, you guys missed it. Chikara! Lemme see your phone real quick," Noya heckled Ennoshita til he caved and showed a picture to Tanaka and some of the second years. Their reactions were extreme, earning the attention of the remaining third years.
"What's up with them?," Kitsuna pointed while taking another sip of her coffee. Yamaguchi yawned and shrugged, while Ennoshita sighed.
"Hey, guys. Good job catching Tsukishima this morning!," Tanaka blurted out loudly.
"Hm? What?," Kitsuna had a feeling she knew where they were going but was pretty set on ignoring them. Noya rushed over and showed the two of them the picture, making Kitsuna spit out her drink and Yamaguchi snap awake to start floundering hard.
"Gimme that!," Kitsuna swiped at the phone, narrowly missing. Nishinoya tossed it back to its owner, who shrank back as soon as Kitsuna's eyes landed on him. They kept bickering well through breakfast and all the way to the gym. Kitsuna finally quieted down during warmups, but there was still some dark intent coming from her.
"Hey, Kitsuna!," Hinata bounded over to her, oblivious to her mood again. So oblivious that he missed her dark glare and was completely unfazed by it. She sighed and gave up her grudge for the time being.
"What's up?," she asked mid-stretch. The boy's eyes were practically sparkling with excitement and it made her anxious.
"Ukai said you're gonna be starting as the setter for the first and last matches of the day! I wanna see if you can do the quick attack! I even remember the signals," Hinata's words shocked everyone around. Kageyama was giving her a dirty look from near the net, confirming at least some of what the little redhead spouted off.
"Eh? I mean, we can go for it. But you'll probably have to adjust for it instead of just jumping up," Kitsuna relented.
They started the match with her setting, sure enough. It took her a whole set to get used to it. She swapped with Kageyama for set two to give them a little boost, where she studied his moves more closely. She recalled doing that her first year, too, with the then-second years. Asahi and Sugawara got way too nervous when she watched them, but Kageyama wasn't bothered in the slightest. He probably just didn't realize he was being watched, to be fair though. For set three, Kitsuna was up again. She let out a sigh as she faced Kenma across the net, and he gave her a knowing look.
Things heated up fast, but dragged on forever with the defense. They had arrived at a deuce, and the rally was going for far longer than anyone wanted it to. The ball flew back into Karasuno's court, toward the back but way up high. Kitsuna was in the back row, along with Ennoshita and Noya. They could have gotten it for sure, but Kitsuna was getting frustrated in her exhaustion.
"I got it!," she called out. Noya and Ennoshita stopped short, despite sensing something off with Kitsuna's approach. Instead of backing up to get it, she rushed forward and leapt up into the air. She wasn't going to do a receive, but a surprise back row attack came out instead as she slammed the ball back over. She landed to a completely silent court, despite her earning a point to break the tie.
"What was that?!," Hinata spoke up first, breaking the dead air.
"I thought you were going for a receive!," Ennoshita exclaimed. He wasn't angry, not at all that she had gotten the point. That could spell a breakdown in communications if it happened again, though.
"Nice kill!," Nishinoya smacked her back repeatedly in his excitement.
"Sorry. I'll figure out a better way to communicate that later. Was just getting pissed off," Kitsuna was slumped over. The game was exhausting, but the way everyone reacted to that point was somehow even more exhausting. They managed to take set three, winning the game and avoiding penalty drills.
