Back at the training camp, dinner was over and Kitsuna was relaxing in the hot bath with the managers. She was leaned over the side, holding a portable game console out away from the water and tapping away at the buttons. It was a far less intense game than she usually played, with some surprisingly cute little critters trailing behind her character.
"So, like. About that thing yesterday when you showed up late, what's that about really?," Yukie sidled up to her and started with a heavy hitter immediately.
"Pass?," Kitsuna felt her energy draining faster now. Just after it had started to replenish, too.
"Hah? This isn't a cutscene you can just skip, girlie," Yukie pouted.
"I think that's something probably pretty personal," Yachi swooped in to try and save her, though her face was even redder than Kitsuna's.
"Drop it, Yukie," Kaori chopped the red-haired girl's head to get her off that track. Yukie stuck out her tongue and let it go, but she was dying from curiosity about it.
"Okay, fine. We'll skip it for now. Next, about your-"
"Pass."
"Really? At least let me finish!," Yukie pouted again.
"Last year, you pretty much just wore boxers right? But this year, there's some surprisingly cute stuff you've been sporting," Kaori did not save Kitsuna from this one.
"Oh, me and Kiyoko sort of dragged her to a store in Tokyo before. Oh, but I don't remember it having anything like that," Yachi blurted out a dangerous detail at the end.
"Hm?"
"Dammit, Yachi. A..friend of mine has been studying fashion design stuff. I've been helping out sometimes," Kitsuna's face sank down against the tiled edge of the large tub.
"Hm? You mean, someone made that stuff? For you? Is it your boyfriend?," Yukie latched onto it immediately.
"No. Wait, who told you-whatever. It's another friend. I just help out when h-their partner can't. Because different…shapes n' stuff," Kitsuna had to catch herself twice with that. Yachi caught on and actually made the motion of zipping her mouth closed to keep from spilling any overly personal information.
"Your boyfriend is okay with that? I mean, like, you'd have to get pretty personal with measurements and all that. Oh, is it a girl?," Yukie kept spouting off questions and assumptions like crazy.
"Just, a friend. I can see if they plan to start sellin' stuff at some point and let you know, if you're interested in what they've got," Kitsuna yawned. She was starting to get too hot and would have to get out soon.
"Oh, sure. Ooh, one more question," the blabbermouth manager glanced to her co-manager before continuing. The look Kaori gave told her that this was absolutely the last one.
"Okay," Kitsuna was definitely getting out after this one, no matter what it was.
"So. You have a boyfriend. Someone from the club last year, but they're not around now. They don't get worried about you sleepin' in the boys' room still?," Yukie let loose a hard hitter again, but Kitsuna's reaction was surprisingly nonviolent.
"Hm? Nah, why would he be? Nothing's gonna happen," Kitsuna sat up to look at Yukie with a somewhat confused look on her face.
"Wow, such dedication," Yachi was stunned by her not entirely wrong or right assumption. Kitsuna didn't bother to fight it, though.
"Really? Like," Yukie got a tap on the shoulder as her final warning.
"Is that how you and your boyfriend got so close, though. Like, did anything freaky happen while the others were asleep?," Kaori dropped a bombshell herself after shutting her friend up.
"Absolutely not! What the hell," Kitsuna stood up suddenly and the other girls shrank back. She stomped out of the bathroom and headed straight for the changing area. Yachi caught up to her and offered to dry her hair, with Kitsuna reluctantly agreeing to it.
"Actually, though. Why don't you come to the girls' room?," Yachi asked while raking her fingers through Kitsuna's mop.
"Because of what just happened. I can't stand those kinds of talks," Kitsuna sat with arms folded as the air dryer's hum rang in her ear.
"O-oh. Sorry," Yachi recalled her and Kiyoko doing something similar before, also in the bath for some reason.
"It's fine. You at least won't ask wild stuff like that," Kitsuna leaned back against Yachi. She was already exhausted on so many levels, and she did feel bad for ditching the girl out of mostly habit.
"Sorry, I'm almost done. Do you want it braided?," Yachi sat the hair dryer down and flicked it off. Kitsuna looked up at her face, and Yachi looked down at hers with a hint of pink on her cheeks.
"Sure, if you wanna," Kitsuna wasn't sure why but she felt like rolling with this for now. She could have done it herself, but in a weird way she also missed the little moments like this with Kiyoko. Or maybe she just missed how much she had been spoiled the past few years by the other seniors in general.
"U-um. I don't know if it matters at all or anything," Yachi stammered out as she carefully pulled Kitsuna's hair into a neat braid. It was even longer now, and the dye on the ends had nearly faded completely out.
"Hm?"
"I'm a little jealous honestly. I-I mean, not just because you got a boyfriend or anything. Just, you're super close with the whole team in general. I still kinda feel like I'm on the outside sometimes," Yachi admitted with a soft tone. Soft, but sad.
"Hm. I think you're the only one who feels like that, though. The others really appreciate you, especially Hinata and Yamaguchi. Me, too. Oh, and I promise I'll stick with you on away games and stuff. Just as long as I'm not stuck with those two overnight," Kitsuna wasn't sure how to comfort her so just gave her own observations and a little promise.
"Eh? Oh. Um, sure! Sorry, that was kinda pessimistic," Yachi was reaching the end of the braid now.
"It's fine. You're nowhere near as bad as Asahi. Not as pouty as Suga either," Kitsuna didn't mean to say the last part out loud, but she did. Yachi laughed at that, feeling a little better about herself. She tied off the braid and released it gently, staring a little too hard at how it fell over Kitsuna's shockingly muscular back.
"Well, it's done. Sorry if that was too weird," Yachi set her free and tried not to stare as the girl slid on her pajamas. Kitsuna smiled warmly at her and waved away the concern.
"It's fine. Appreciate it actually. 'Night," Kitsuna collected her things and started to leave.
"One more thing! Um, I think you two are really cute! LIke, um, well-"
"Thanks," Kitsuna held a hand up to calm Yachi and then left. She stopped just outside the door and let her face cool back down before she started down the hall, where she was caught by Kenma and Hinata.
