Keishin pulled into a parking space outside a dorm building. Kitsuna was still fast asleep, so he shot a text to Sugawara and stepped outside the car to smoke. Half-way through his cigarette, the younger man finally stepped out of the double doors and approached somewhat bashfully.
"Sorry. For making you wait," Sugawara apologized with a half-bow. The wind blew hard, and he pulled his scarf up around his face more. Keishin took one long drag, then dropped the cigarette and stamped it out.
"Don't worry 'bout it. Let's get her stuff up first," the blonde man moved to the back door and opened it up, scooping out two bags and stepping back. Sugawara double-checked behind him and got the third and final bag, which was quite a bit smaller than the others. He closed the door, smiling to himself under the scarf at the sight of Kitsuna curled up in the front seat. They headed up, dropping the bags outside the door then heading back down.
"Hey, wake up," Keishin opened the driver's door and slid into the seat. Sugawara opened her door and leaned in, nudging her shoulder. She stirred awake at that, blinking around with a nasty look on her scrunched up face.
"Eh? What? Huh?"
She looked at the building looming ahead of them, then at Keishin. Then at the face just outside the frame of the car door. Then back to Keishin, with such a potent look of confusion one could practically see the question marks over her head.
"Wait, did you actually not tell her?," Sugawara laughed at her reaction. Kitsuna's eyes narrowed at Keishin, who wore a goofy smirk.
"When the hell did you two-? Whatever. What's goin' on?," she asked through a yawn, shivering at the cold air sucking away all the heat of the car's interior.
"You're stayin' here for the holiday break, instead of up at the old house. Hurry up an' clear out, you're letting all the heat out," Keishin gave a very brief and rough explanation. He tapped her shoulder with the back of his hand, and she unbuckled her seatbelt. Kitsuna stepped gingerly out of the car, starting a big stretch but retreating her limbs to her sides as the wind kicked up again. Sugawara closed the car and they waved as it pulled out of the space.
"When the hell did you set this up? And why didn't he tell me," Kitsuna pestered Sugawara as he guided her inside the building. The heat was on in the entryway, but there was still an unshakeable chill there.
"Ah, we set it up during summer," Suga gave a short answer and pointed toward the stairs. Kitsuna followed him up two floors and down the hall, stopping in front of a door that had her belongings deposited outside.
"All the way back then? Dude," Kitsuna scooped up all her bags while her partner fiddled with the key and opened the door. She stepped in first, Suga following and locked the door behind them. He started shedding his layers when Kitsuna suddenly let out a loud shout, her bags sliding off her shoulders and hitting the floor beside the sofa with a thud.
"Shit!"
"Ah! W-what? Forget something?," Sugawara panicked at that, but she just shook her head.
"I was gonna meet up with some of the others on New Year's. For a shrine visit," Kitsuna pulled out her phone, nearly dropping it.
"Oh. Right. We planned on you heading back the day before that. Ennoshita mentioned it," Suga breathed a sigh of relief. He was feeling slightly more on edge now that she was actually there in his dorm. She seemed fidgety, too, but was probably more bothered by all the secret planning she was suddenly pulled into.
"Well you just figured everything out, with all your sneakin' around," Kitsuna tossed her phone onto the sofa and peeled off her jacket. She tossed that onto the sofa as well, turning around and stretching now that she was warmed up again.
"Sorry. It was supposed to be a surprise, but maybe not that much of one?," Suga half-bowed again, staring hard at the floor while his mind and heart raced. He heard some shuffling around, and the soft rustling of clothing as Kitsuna moved about the room. He was still looking down when she passed beside him, sliding her shoes off at the door while leaning on his shoulder a little.
"Dude. You're makin' it weird for both of us, quit," Kitsuna chopped his head, pulling him out of his sinking thought spiral. Before he could get out another apology, he was nearly toppled over in a very enthusiastic embrace.
"H-hey! Careful," he caught himself and stood back up, feeling something soft on his cheek that made him flushed all over again.
"Missed you," Kitsuna spoke softly in his ear, pressing her cheek into his neck and resting her head on his shoulder. He reached up and tousled her hair a little bit, a dopey grin spreading across his face now.
"Yeah. I missed you, too."
They stood like that for a few minutes, just enjoying each other's presence there. Breathing in, and out, rocking somewhat side to side. Until their hearts no longer felt like beating out of their chests, and their minds were back to a somewhat peaceful state.
"Oi, Suga."
"Hm?"
"I'm hungry," Kitsuna delivered that revelation with a flat tone. Suga's face went blank at that, somewhat flabbergasted with the drastic change in mood.
"Pfft! I guess that makes sense. Did you even eat before you left?," he swore he could hear her stomach growling behind him. She sucked in a long breath and pulled away, pouting a little bit.
"I forgot, was packing up some stuff last-minute," Kitsuna kept pouting, making Sugawara laugh again.
"Huh? Don't you usually make sure to pack ahead of time?"
"Well, I wasn't aware of your sneaky little scheme, so I had to adjust what I brought. Can't have game stuff at old Ukai's," Kitsuna grumbled a little bit.
"You brought your game stuff?," Sugawara asked while pulling his coat and scarf back on. They were going to have to go out for food, and after that there was one additional stop.
"Oh, shit. Yeah, I had a stream planned with Kenma. Uh, for Christmas actually," Kitsuna fidgeted and looked at him as though waiting for some kind of approval.
"Okay. That's fine. For now," Sugawara reached for something behind him on the counter, wrapping it around Kitsuna's shoulders. A spare jacket, one a little thicker than her volleyball club jacket. "Let's go get something to eat. Sorry, but I don't have anything here."
"Okay."
