The next morning was a late start, but a rough one. Kitsuna rolled out of bed with a thud onto the floor. That startled her awake, and she tried to lurch upward but tripped over the blanket tangled around her and smashed into the desk on the other side of the small room. Sugawara woke up with a start at the first impact, and was too stunned by what he witnessed to react for the next one either. He just sat on his bed staring at the writhing mass on the floor for several minutes.
"...fuck! Fuckin' shitty ass tiny ass bed! Fuck!," Kitsuna let out an impressive string of expletives when she finally gained some level of consciousness. That finally spurred Suga on enough to help her out of the heap she had crumpled into, though he had to try pretty hard to stifle his laughter. Kitsuna was momentarily distracted by something underneath his bed, but gave him a dirty look all the same as he helped her stand up.
"Shut up," she barked through a pout.
"I didn't even say anything yet!," Suga whined defensively. Kitsuna swung the door open to the sitting area and stepped through. He heard one door open and shut, with a quiet curse. Then another. Then a third, at which point he stepped out to see her fumbling around for the light switch to the restroom. She was searching with her hand along the inside wall, completely oblivious to the switch on the outside by the door frame.
"It's on the outside," Suga explained through a yawn. He had slipped behind her and flicked the switch, startling her a little bit.
"I knew that," she shot back.
"Did you?," he continued to tease.
"There's a spider egg sac under your bed. By the top left post. Couldn't see the spider itself," she left him with that information and closed the door in his face.
"There isn't actually…is there?," the silver-haired young man stared hard at the door. Hard enough that he could count the wood grains if he wanted. Instead, he was weighing the possibilities. Whether he should check for the spider nest or not. On one hand, it could just be a prank to shut him up about the morning mishap. One Kistuna would be sure to laugh at him for believing. On the other, she did stare at that spot for a good bit. It was pretty convincing, and far too much effort for a simple payback. Before he could decide what course to take, the door opened and Kitsuna stopped just millimeters from crashing into him.
"If you need to go, I can't leave until you move out of the way," Kitsuna tilted her head to go along with the confused look she gave him. His response was slow, but he stepped back out of the way and she moved toward her bags. He headed into the bathroom next, trying to shake the paranoia she had managed to give him. When he stepped out, he saw the door to his bedroom open again and slowly peeked inside.
"What're you doing?," he asked, greeted by a spectacular view as she was crouched down and reaching underneath the bed. She slowly slid out, sitting up and shaking some dust from her hair. Her hand was placed firmly on top of something, with a notebook in the other that she slowly slid under the other item. She stood carefully and faced him, finally revealing what she had in her hands.
"No way!"
There, contained in some sort of clear plastic container and sealed up with the notebook, was a huge spider and something smaller. Smaller, and white. Sugawara reflexively jumped back when his eyes landed on the creature, and he retreated to the other room when she took a step in his direction.
"Ah. I didn't actually think about what to do once I caught it," she looked around the room, her hair falling wildly over her eyes. She shook her head to no avail, pulling more hair loose with that.
"What, gonna put it outside somewhere?," Sugawara pulled himself out of his fight or flight response and gingerly moved toward her. She started to turn to face him, but he held her shoulders and just brushed her hair out of her face from behind. He would help her out, so long as he didn't have to actually face the captive spider.
"Yeah. Hm, it's probably cold though. Here," Kitsuna tried to hand off the questionable trap that held the secret roommate he wished he never knew he had. Sugawara jumped back with movements rivaling Hinata's wild reactions to Kageyama or anyone remotely intimidating. Kitsuna gave him a deadpan stare, inching closer to gauge his reaction. Sure enough, he was avoiding the spider or any kind of interaction with it.
"Dude. Fine," she huffed and carefully put her prey on the countertop by the door. She placed something on top of the clear container, a counterweight, and moved around to get something warmer on. A hoodie she dug out, and her volleyball jacket over that. Then her shoes, and with a quick motion she swept her messy, two-toned hair up into a messy sort of bun at the base of her neck. Next she tossed a jacket toward her petrified partner in the corner, once again startling him into motion.
"I'll carry it, but you gotta get the doors. Hurry up, before it gets really mad," Kitsuna returned to the little creature. She hunched over to observe it, enthralled by its little taps on the edges of its little cage. Sugawara slid on his shoes and waited by the door. He practically cowered behind it as Kitsuna carried her prize out of the dorm room, sliding it shut with a tense sigh. They headed down the stairs and outside, where Kitsuna placed the notebook and cup down under a nearby bush. She tipped the container over and retreated hastily, dusting her hands off and joining Suga by the door.
"You're leaving your stuff?," he asked, glancing back as they returned to the heated interior of the building.
"Can come get it later. I don't wanna be too rough or drop the spider on myself. This way it can leave on its own and find a new home," Kitsuna rubbed her hands together as she led the way back upstairs and down the hall. The wrong way, of course. She was snappier than usual at the correction, but realized her error quickly enough and apologized weakly.
