He stuffed the books from his locker into his bag, knowing he would fail this year if he didn't study more. Running his hand through his hair, he groaned. He had been trying to focus on his schoolwork, putting in so much effort, but it just never seemed to click for him.

Swirly pink curls caught the corner of his eye, making him turn his head. All thoughts of school seemed to disappear with the sight of her. She threw her head back in laughter, brushed a curl behind her ear, and smiled at the fairy walking beside her. Dressed in her cheerleading outfit, she looked radiant. Pink was her, but yellow truly made her shine.

"Ew, he's staring at me," he heard. He shook his head and noticed the other fairy beside her was now glowering at him.

Her fuchsia-colored eyes landed on him, her head tilting in confusion as she looked between him and her friend. As she turned back to her friend, he slammed his locker shut and rushed in the opposite direction.

Wanda watched as the green wings with slight pink accents disappeared from view. Clenching her sweater, she listened as her friend grumbled about who they allowed in school, nodding along wordlessly. As she slowly walked toward the gym, her thoughts raced back to the first time she caught the eyes of that green fairy.

In a rinky dink diner she wished she never went into.

"Oh look, it's so rustic here," Celine called out as she looked up and down at the diner they were slowly passing. Wanda's eyes flew to her, and she raised a brow. It wasn't like her friends to enjoy simple places like this. Honestly, it looked pretty nice.

"Oh my goodness, we could totally buy the whole place if we wanted, and you want to eat there," giggled Carnellia. She rolled her eyes, barely holding back a groan.

"But we could totally post it on our accounts, and we'd look so hip and cool," Celine said with a smirk. "We could totally make it the new 'it' place."

She looked at the diner and bit her lip, feeling an inexplicable draw towards it. It was small and unassuming, with only a few customers inside. Despite its modest appearance, she couldn't shake the feeling that it might serve as an excellent place if given the chance.

"I say we should give it a chance," she murmured in a daze.

"See, Wandy totally agrees with me," Celine smugly said as she wrapped her arm around her shoulder and squeezed. It made Carnellia gag and roll her eyes.

"Fine, whatever, let's just get this over with," she sighed as Celine pushed them into the diner.

A little bell rang as they entered the place, and she couldn't help but think how endearing this place seemed. It appeared like a sit yourself place, so Carnelia pulled them to a booth.

Eventually, a waiter came to them with a little notepad and pen. If memory served right, she was a year older than her and Celine.

"Oh my goodness, you work here?" Carnelia laughed and shook her head. "I so knew this place was gonna be like a dump." Wanda cringed and looked down as her friends laughed in the poor girl's face.

The girl stiffened and placed menus on the table before smiling a fake smile. "Someone will be with you shortly to take your order."

"Gosh, she can't even take a joke." Carnelia rolled her eyes. "Hopefully, we can at least get something decent to eat here, right Wandy."

She wanted to say that it was rude of them to laugh. She wanted to stand up and apologize for their behavior. Instead, she just plastered on a smile and nodded. "Yeah, I mean, it's a diner. I suppose all they'd be good for is burgers and shakes."

"Like, she's so right. We need to have some authentic diner food pictures, and what better than some greasy burgers and shakes."

"Gross, I can't believe you want us to eat greasy food. Don't you know what that does to your skin?" Carnelia groaned as she rubbed her face dramatically.

"Puh-lease, we don't want to die from food poisoning. We just need to make it look like we like it here," she rolled her eyes. "As if Wandy would ever want to eat something from here. Right?"

Their eyes were on her, and she gripped the table as she tried to steady her gaze. It wasn't like she hated greasy food. It could be pretty good sometimes, but they were right. They shouldn't eat stuff like that.

She shouldn't eat stuff like that.

"Yeah, like c'mon guys, I'd rather die than have that in my mouth," she chuckled, and they began laughing. She bit the inside of her cheek as she looked down.

It didn't take long for them to get another server, and even less time for her friends to frustrate this one. At least they got their order in before insulting them away. Her eyes lingered over to where the two waiters stood talking. Obviously, it was about them because they grimaced and looked away as soon as they caught her gaze.

"Ugh, the service here is like terrible," Celine grumbled as she messed around with her straw. "Like all I wanted was a cute photo, and instead, we get grumpy jerk servers."

"Yeah," Carnellia whined. "We totally need to, like get these pictures and just leave! I can't believe you two tricked me into coming here."

"You were so right, but don't worry, Wandy will make it up to us because she'll pay us back by taking us out on a shopping trip," Celine giggled, and Carnellia squealed with joy as they grabbed her hand and laughed.

"I will?" Wanda sputtered out in confusion and raised a brow. Then they both looked at her with shocked and hurt faces as if she had just cursed their whole families. She laughed it off and ran her finger through her swirl. "I mean, of course, I will!"

Instantly, they began to laugh again, and she joined in carefully to ensure she seemed just like them and that she was meant to be here.

"OH look, our new waiter." she couldn't even tell who said it because as soon as her gaze caught sight of the green eyes, she felt everything blur. The waiter had a bubbly smile and emerald eyes, which seemed to widen as he focused on her. He was lanky with braces, and he even had a mullet. Honestly, he looked rather cute with it, in a way. However, he seemed like he wasn't stopping as he walked towards her.

Then everything on the platter flew onto her—burgers loaded with ketchup and vegetables, followed by a multitude of milkshakes seeping into her sweater and skirt, even displacing her curls. She wanted to be upset, but when she looked up and saw him covered in a milkshake and a burger, she couldn't help but gasp softly.

Her friends laughed and snorted at her and the waiter as if on cue. He stuttered out apologies and raised his hands in defeat.

The flashes of her friend's phones were also something she should have expected, but it still filled her stomach with a hole as she caught them aiming their cameras at her.

Her lip quivered momentarily before she stood up, carefully held her head high, and walked away. She didn't hear them even try to get her to stop, but she did hear the waiter softly call out to wait. She turned her head slightly, and their eyes locked for a moment. She never believed that time slowed down for people, but it seemed like it did in that instant. But the laughter was too much, and no matter how much she wanted to stay, her embarrassment outweighed that feeling.

So she left.

She flew home.

She had expected angry messages from her friends later on. Perhaps to be mocked for leaving like a child, but honestly, She would rather deal with that later than now. What she hadn't expected was what actually happened the next morning.

Her head was pounding, probably from crying all night. She pinched the bridge of her nose as she slowly sat up on her bed. Her eyes drifted to her nightstand, which her phone lay on. She rolled her eyes as she stood up and walked toward her bathroom. She wiped her face with her hand towel and looked into the mirror.

She had expected to see pink eyes gazing into her as they did every morning. Instead, while it indeed mirrored her eyes, they were accented with green. A green that she remembered from that afternoon. The pit in her stomach only grew as she released her wings from her back, and they also had the same sliver of green as her eyes.

She pulled down on her lower eyelid as she stared into the mirror, begging for this to be a trick of the light or a nightmare she hadn't woken up from.

"Fuck, that's not purple now, is it" she heard from behind her, and she tensed up as she slowly turned her head to see her sister standing at the door with her mouth curled into a smirk.

That was at the beginning of summer, and now she was standing in the middle of the gym in her cheerleading outfit, watching her friends getting ready for practice. Her sister was on the bleachers laughing, already looking like she was done with practice.

"Hey Wandy, do you think Juandy will join you at my party this Friday?" shouted Carnellia from the bleachers, sitting by her sister.

"You're hosting a party?" she asked, causing the girl to scoff and roll her eyes.

"C'mon, sweetie, just text him and let me know, okay?" She turned to her sister and laughed. What made it worse was Blonda joining in with the laughter.

She groaned, pulled out her phone, and began texting her boyfriend. Despite everything that happened this summer, she stayed with him. Even if he wasn't her soulmate, she was still his.

Allegedly.

She sent the text and waited until a thumbs-up was sent in response. He then started texting her photos of him making a kissy face. She cringed slightly before shoving her phone into her pocket once more.

"Weʼll be there," she sighed and began her stretches. She heard the girls squeal in excitement as she grew even more annoyed. Honestly, this week couldn't end sooner for her.

"I can't believe you'd rather cook in that dump of a restaurant than be with your mother," his momma screamed over her shoulder as she sat in her chair.

"Well-" he started, but before he could even speak, she turned on her television and started raising the volume. He rolled his eyes and headed toward the door.

"Oh yes, just leave. That's all you do," she snapped, and he sighed. He just opened the door and flew out. It wasn't like he had any chance of talking if he stayed, and he wanted to be on time for his shift.

If there was one thing he knew he could do, it was cook. He used to be a waiter, but they ensured he stayed in the back after that summer's incident. He sighed dreamily as he thought about that summer and the girl he couldn't seem to forget.

He sees her at school and notices her whenever he tries not to. He is in a few classes with her, and she always looks so focused. Sometimes, he swears she notices him staring and stares back. That was a daydream on his part, however. There was no way someone like her would ever notice him.

She was probably too busy with her cheerleading practice and her stupid hunky boyfriend. He gagged as he stepped down to the sidewalk before the diner. As he opened the doors, he waved at Dune and Starla, who only nodded back at him as he made his way to the back.

He groaned, rubbed his neck, punched in, and headed toward the kitchen. It was barely even Tuesday, and he already wanted this week to end.

She watched the clock in the classroom as her teacher rambled over a subject she already knew about. She enjoyed the history of Godparenting, but she was just drained and tired right now.

It also didn't help that he was in this class. As if instinctually, her eyes gazed back at him, and as usual, he was watching her. He seemed to jump as she locked eyes with him, and he quickly looked up to the board.

She sighed softly and looked back at the board as she put her head on her palm. She knew of him and had heard rumors that he was the last legal fairy baby. She knew the ban was because of him, and she also knew that he was probably her soulmate. Scratch that, she knew he was her soulmate.

It wasn't like it mattered anyway. Wanda didn't even know him, and she had a boyfriend that she, well, at the least, cared for. Who was he to randomly come into her life and make her question her relationship? Well, even more so than usual. It's not like Juan was a bad guy. He was just a tad conceited.

She almost chuckled at the thought. He was more than a tad conceited, but that wasn't his worst flaw. Not that he had any terrible flaws—just quirks that made him who he was. Besides, she loved him, in a way, and his flaws were part of what made him uniquely him.

The bell rang, and her thoughts dissipated, so she began packing her notebook and pencil.

"Miss Fairywinkle and Mister Cosma, may you two stay after class for a moment?"

Her head snapped up to her teacher, who had turned his back and started wiping down the blackboard. She watched as the other kids walked out, then turned her head to see Cosmo hovering beside his desk.

His eyes were already focused on her. When she raised an eyebrow at him, he merely shrugged, clearly clueless as to why they were being forced to wait after class. She sighed, slowly stood up, and approached Mr. Dorian's desk.

"Mr Dorian, did I do something wrong? Was it the last quiz, perhaps?" She asked instantly as she hugged her journal close to her chest.

"Well, I know I failed my quiz," Cosmo muttered beside her.

"And that's exactly why I asked you two to stay after class," she raised a brow at this. Had she, perchance, failed the quiz as well?

"Miss Fairywinkle, you had the highest score in the class, while Mister Cosma," he paused and coughed slightly. "Well, let's just say I called you two here for a reason."

Wanda looked at Cosmo's face and watched how it fell slightly. He didn't even bother to look at Mr. Dorian or her, for that matter.

"I would like it if you, Miss Fairywinkle, started tutoring Mister Cosma." Her eyes widened, and she felt the air ripped from her. She didn't even have to look at Cosmo to know he was staring at her.

"If you do, I will give you extra credit, of course, and I will write a letter of recommendation for The Godparenting Academy."

"Really?" she muttered in disbelief as he nodded.

"You two have big hearts, and I believe that you both deserve to be Godparents. However, Mister Cosma lacks the" he licked his lips and paused momentarily. "Well, he lacks the focus, and I believe that you could help him, Miss Fairywinkle."

"You think I could be a Godparent?" Cosmo whispered beside her, and she tugged on her sweater sleeve, listening to how happy he sounded.

"I do," he smiled. "I believe that you have the heart for it, and I know for a fact you have the soul for it just as Miss Fairwinkle does." She looked at Cosmo, and he was only smiling, staring at their teacher. He really did want to be a Godparent, too, didn't he?

"This is why I am offering this up; however, if you'd rather not tutor Miss Fairywinkle, I understand that and can find another way."

"No, No, I'll do it," she replied instantly. It was so fast that she hadn't even realized that she had agreed until she saw Cosmo's soft smile directed at her.

That's when she knew she was screwed.
