And so Bob and Peter returned home, and things became much more different over the next few weeks (or maybe months).
Bob felt like a new man as he spent more time with the kids and began flirting with his wife. Thanks to the money he'd made from the mission, he bought two new sports cars for himself and Helen. Bob started a new routine – each day, when leaving the house and pretending to go to work, Bob headed to the train yard to exercise and regain his top shape for future missions. Soon, he was all bulk up, feeling like his old Super self again – fit, strong, and incredible.
As for Peter Parker? After the whole fiasco with the Omnidroid and Nomansian, he promised himself to forget about the island. He was only interested in studying and taking good care of his aunt and the house.
Peter focused on his studies and succeeded in his classes at school. After all, he can't be a full-fledged Super who flunks his tests. And, of course, Peter began having a bit of fun as he spent more time with the Parr kids, especially Violet.
Peter and Violet learned a lot about each other as they spent a magical time together. He helped Violet with her studies so she could ace some tests. They even began laughing together as they stared at each other, blushing. Along the way, Peter discovers tender feelings inside himself for Violet, ones he didn't know he could have.
But Peter and Violet looked at each other nervously, and even Dash might have tried to ruin the mood.
Soon, everything was going spectacularly.
The following day, Peter noticed his homemade super-suit was still messed up from the island experience and the battle with the Omnidroid. He considered repairing it, but it was useless – he needed a new, better super-suit. That's when Bob appeared in his new sports car.
"That's what's up," Peter said, complimenting the car. "Nice ride!"
Bob chuckled. "Thanks!"
Peter showed Bob his messed-up super suit and mask. "You think you know someone who can make a new one?"
"I'm glad you asked. Come on."
An hour later, Bob and Peter pulled up to a vast gate of laser beams. Behind it was a mansion up on a hill.
"That's odd," Peter said in confusion as Bob leaned out his car window toward the video monitor. It flashed on, revealing a guard.
"You have an appointment?" The guard asked.
"I'm an old friend," Bob answered. "I just wanted to..."
"All visitors are required to make an appointment," The guard interrupted.
Suddenly, a husky voice appeared over the speaker, shooing the guard away. "Hey, get back to work! Go check the electric fence or something!"
Bob immediately knew who it was – the world's most fabulous fashion designer and former top designer for the Supers, Edna Mode, affectionately known as E.
Edna's glasses and nose rose up on the screen. "What is it? Who are you? What do you want?"
Lowering his sunglasses, Bob showed his face and grinned.
"Robert!? My god, you've gotten fat," Edna said. Then, she noticed Peter in the car seat. "And who's this you brought with you?"
"He's a friend," Bob replied, leaning back to reveal Peter, who awkwardly waved hello.
The laser gate opened, and Bob drove to Edna's modern, gallery-like house.
Moments later, Peter showed Edna his homemade super-suit and mask as he introduced himself. "I'm Peter Parker, and I happened to be the new Super around the block called Spider-Man."
Edna was surprised as she turned to Bob. "Why didn't you tell me this boy was a Super, Robert?" She then turned back to Peter. "Did you make this yourself?"
"Yep, all me," Peter nodded. "So…you're responsible for all the super-suits for the former Supers way back then?"
"Most of them, darling, yes," Edna answered. "But, you know, it is not the same. Not the same at all."
"My aunt's a big fan of your work, or so I thought I heard. Something about a fashion show in Prague."
"Milan, darling. Milan," Edna corrected. "And supermodels? There's nothing super about them. They're spoiled, stupid, little stick figures with poofy lips who think only about themselves. FEH! I used to design for gods!" Edna then turned back to Peter and Bob. "Perhaps you come here with a challenge, eh? I was surprised to get Robert's call."
"Well, I needed a new suit," Peter said. "Bob here wants a patch job."
Edna grabbed Bob's torn super-suit. "Hmm. This is megamesh. It's outmoded but very sturdy. And you've ripped right through it!" She looked up at Bob with a smirk. "What have you been doing, Robert? Moonlighting hero work?"
"Must've happened long ago," Bob said, acting casual.
"I see. This is a hobo suit. Darling, you can't be seen in this! I won't allow it! Fifteen years ago, maybe, but now!?"
"What do you mean? You designed it."
"I never look back, darling. It distracts from the now. You and the boy need new suits. That much is certain."
"A new suit…," Peter nodded in agreement, repeating those words. Then, his eyes brightened as he turned to Edna. The answer was right in front of him! "Hey! Can you make us new suits?"
Edna smiled. "You push too hard, darling! But I accept. It will be bold. Dramatic! Heroic!"
"Yeah, something classic," Bob said. "Like, er… Dynaguy! Oh, he had a great look! Oh, the cape and the boots…"
"No capes!" Edna exclaimed.
"Isn't that my decision?" Bob asked.
"I'm starting to think there's a lot of a grey area in wearing capes," Peter said.
"Exactly," Edna replied. "Not only are they silly, but capes are also quite dangerous." She then pointed out that too many heroes like Thunderhead and Stratogale got tangled in their capes, leading to awful accidents.
"I will not even wear a scarf anymore," Edna finished.
"So, the moral of the rule is…no capes?" Peter said when Edna finished running down a list of doomed Supers. "Okay, then." He then asked Edna if his new super-suit would have old-school sensibilities with a modern twist.
Edna smiled. "Now, go on. Your new suit will be finished before your next assignment, Robert. And Peter, yours will be sent to your house."
As Peter wrote down his address and gave it to Edna, Bob reminded Edna. "You know I'm retired from hero work."
"As am I, Robert," Edna replied. "Yet, here we are."
"E, I only need a patch job for sentimental reasons."
Edna sighed. "Fine. I will also fix the hobo suit."
"You're the best, E," Bob smiled.
"Yes, I know, darling. I know."
As Edna left, Peter looked at Bob. "So, she's the designer who started it all?"
"Yep," Bob nodded.
Later that day, Peter came back home with an autograph from Edna Mode since her aunt was a huge fan. While he waited patiently for his new suit to arrive, Peter decided to pass the time – watching some television, exercising outside, studying, and even taking a shower and wearing cologne.
But eventually, Peter got so bored that he took a little nap. He already did a favor and stopped being a Super for now. Wrapping his thoughts, Peter couldn't help wondering if something big was behind all these rumors he had heard about the missing Supers, and it might be the same thing happening to Bob.
"What's keeping Bob all of a sudden?" Peter asked.
Around the same time, Helen had the same idea. She also wanted to find out where Bob was and what he was up to. Helen visited Edna, the only person who had fixed Bob's old blue and black supersuit. Inspired, she also made other super-suits for the rest of the Parr family, each with a homing device.
Helen finally realized that Bob had lied to her for months…and Peter was involved in his secret hero work. In fact, she didn't even know that Edna was also making a new super-suit for Peter.
Later that night, Peter went to bed, sleeping peacefully and dreaming about beating up bad guys in his new super-suit. But then, suddenly, he began to toss and turn his head around…
In his dream, Peter is tightened around by the claws of a new and improved Omnidroid when a voice suddenly appears. "It's bigger! It's badder! Ladies and gentlemen, it's too much for the one and only Spider-Man!"
Peter turned around and saw a strange, wild-haired man in a black and white costume with a big "S" symbol on it, wearing a mask, a cape, and vector thrust-controlled rocket boots that looked oddly similar to Iron Man's.
"It's finally ready!" The caped man began laughing. "You know, I went through quite a few Supers to get it worthy to fight him." He then looked at Peter. "But man, it wasn't good enough! After you helped him trash the last one, I had to make some major modifications."
"Him?" Peter repeated in confusion. "You mean Mr. Incredible?"
"Yeah! Sure, it was difficult, but he was worth it. I mean, after all... I am his biggest fan."
Peter's eyes went around. "Are you saying that you're Mr. Incredible's fan? I hate to break it to you, Buddy, but you got the wrong guy."
"Do not call me BUDDY!" The man exclaimed angrily. "And I used to be his biggest fan, Buddy Pine, but I guess that ship has sailed."
"How did you end up like this?" Peter asked.
"Well, it's a long and pitiful story about a young fan with a dream. A dream of being Mr. Incredible's sidekick…"
Buddy sorrowfully remembered years earlier when he wanted to be Mr. Incredible's sidekick, InrediBoy. He showed up at the crime scene in his invented rocket boots to help Mr. Incredible fight Bomb Voyage, but things went awry.
Buddy goes to get the police, but Mr. Incredible grabs him because one of Bomb Voyage's explosives is attached to his cape. He tore the bomb off, but it destroyed the train track, and Mr. Incredible stopped the train from falling off.
Mr. Incredible saved the day, but Buddy was rejected by his hero.
"All I wanted was to help him," Buddy continued. "I only wanted to help! And WHAT did he say to me? 'Fly home, Buddy. I work alone.'"
Peter flinched. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Staring at the grown-up Buddy, it suddenly hit him: It was that same fateful day when Mr. Incredible saved Mr. Sansweet, caused the El train accident, and ended Buddy's dream. It was also the story of a fan being rejected by his hero.
"It tore me apart," Buddy said, covering his face with an evil frown. "But I learned an important lesson: You can't count on anyone, especially your heroes."
Hearing all this, Peter realized something as he stared at Buddy wide-eyed. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up! Do you mean to tell me you remembered everything because you were there!?" He then slowly pieced things together. "So, then…you caused the Bomb Voyage fiasco years ago?"
"Yes, thank you, we've established that," Buddy said.
"But that would mean…it wasn't just Mr. Incredible's fault, it was yours! If you hadn't interrupted Mr. Incredible and let Bomb Voyage escape, he would've caught him, and all the Supers wouldn't have been in big trouble with the law!"
The grown-up Buddy laughed. "See? Now you see the bigger picture because I'm a threat. That's the way it works! It turns out many people, even the whole country, want respect. And they will pay through the nose to get it. How do you think I got rich? I invented weapons and sold them to the highest bidder."
"Like that Omnidroid," Peter gasped, remembering the first Omnidroid at Nomanisan. "It wasn't some secret government group that made that robot. It was all you!"
"Exactly! And now I have a weapon only I can defeat. And when I unleash it, I'll get—"
"The respect you deserved?"
"You sly dog! You finished my sentence! I can't believe this…"
The maniacal Buddy, now to be called Syndrome, laughed as he froze Peter with his immobile ray by shooting a beam from his finger. "It's cool, huh? Zero-point energy. I saved the best inventions for myself. I'm SYNDROME!"
Syndrome tossed Peter into the air with his invention as Peter screamed, "WHOAH! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
Peter continued falling into what he thought was a dark void until he landed on a pathway that slowly lit up to Syndrome's mainframe computer. He can see Mr. Incredible, now sporting his new red super-suit, typing in 'Kronos' to unlock the database.
"Kronos?" Peter asked in confusion. He thought he remembered that word before in class. It was an ancient Greek myth about Kronos, king of the Titans and father of many Greek gods and goddesses. After hearing a prophecy that one of his children would overthrow him, Kronos killed all of his children so that he could remain the only king. "Why on earth would Syndrome think of a name like that!?"
But when Peter looked up at the screen, he was shocked by what he saw: a long list of all the former Supers from the Golden Age – most of them were listed as 'TERMINATED' by Syndrome's previous Omnidroid prototypes.
"No…," Peter gasped as his eyes grew wide in fear. Mr. Incredible's heroic friends and the Supers from his uncle's stories were all gone and killed, including Gazerbeam, Cyclops, and Professor X. "So, the rumors were true."
Peter turned to see Mr. Incredible searching the database for Helen's status.
ELASTIGRL: LOCATION UNKNOWN.
Mr. Incredible sighed with relief, then continued searching the database for Lucius's status, Wolverine's, and then his own.
FROZONE: LOCATION KNOWN.
MR. INCREDIBLE: TERMINATED.
WOLVERINE: TERMINATED.
Mr. Incredible quickly typed in Peter's status.
SPIDER-MAN: LOCATION KNOWN. CLASSIFIED: NOT A THREAT.
"'Not a threat?' Rude," Peter scoffed. He saw 'Operation: Kronos,' showing that the Omnidroid v.10 will be put into a rocket, launched into the city, and wreak havoc, except Syndrome will be there to stop it as the only hero. It then showed precisely 8 hours remaining before its launch.
Suddenly, Peter thought he heard a beeping from Mr. Incredible's red suit. Then, the lights came on, triggering Syndrome's security system as the turrets appeared, shooting sticky absorbent balls of goo at Mr. Incredible.
"Mr. Incredible!" Peter exclaimed as he tried to reach out to save him, but then he felt like someone was pulling him away. "No, no, no! Bob!"
Suddenly waking up, Peter screamed as he looked around his room to see it was morning. He sighed in relief but realized that the dream he woke up from might've become real.
However, as accurate as that dream was, Peter knew Bob was in danger, and his family was unaware of what was happening. He had to return to Nomanisan, save Bob, and help stop 'Operation: Kronos' – even if it meant he had to become Spider-Man again.
Later that day, while Aunt May ran off to run errands, Peter had the whole house to himself as he slowly began putting the pieces together and formulating a plan. But should Peter tell Bob's family? If he did that, they might ask how Peter knows so much, and they might tag along on this one.
"Okay, I think I got the gist of things and memorized everything," Peter said, deciding to swing into action. "Except I still don't have my new super-suit yet."
Thankfully, the answer had just arrived as Peter quickly opened the front door to see a shopping bag with Edna Mode's logo. Looking around to see no one saw the bag, he picked it up and took it inside the house.
Peter began examining his new Spider-Man super-suit Edna made. It was a modified and traditional red and blue suit with web-wings – primarily blue with red gloves and boots. The middle section is red and all covered in web patterns. There's also a tiny black spider in the front and a giant red spider in the back.
The midsection of the belt is forgone, the boots go up in groves, and the soles are blue and go partway up the foot. The web-shooters are darkened blue bands worn on the outside.
Peter then checked the mask. It looked like Mr. Incredible's, but it was big and had white plastic lenses that helped him see what was outside, protecting his eyes.
"Now, this is a super-suit," Peter smiled, appreciating Edna's work.
But before Peter could try it on, he heard the doorbell ring and someone knocking. He answered it to see that it was Violet.
"Violet!? What are you doing here?" Peter asked in surprise, just as Violet let herself in.
"I need someplace to clear my head, and you're the only person I can think of, Peter," Violet replied.
"Well, I-I'm flattered."
"Dad is still away, Mom left to see someone, and Dash is just super annoying. So, anyway, what are you up to?"
Peter was about to reply when the doorbell rang again. He answered it, and it was Dash with Jack-Jack.
"Hi, Pete!" Dash greeted, letting himself and Jack-Jack in.
"Dash!? I'm not throwing a party here, you know."
Dash noticed Violet was there and then looked at Peter. "Are you two dating?"
"Dash!" Violet yelled angrily while Jack-Jack giggled.
Dash noticed the inside of the shopping bag with Edna's logo and Peter's new super-suit. "Hey! What's that? Where'd you get that, Peter?"
Violet noticed it as well as she held up Peter's new super-suit. "What is this?"
Peter knew he couldn't take it anymore. "That's…my new super-suit."
"Why do you have a new suit?"
"Because…I think your dad might got caught up in some deep trouble."
"You mean, like Dad's in trouble, or Dad is the trouble?" Violet asked.
"What I mean is your Dad might be in danger," Peter replied. "The last time I was with your father, we were just visiting an old friend of his. After that, I was at home, studying and watching TV while your dad left."
"Maybe something went wrong at that conference he goes to," Violet said. "What did they teach, show, or even do to him there?"
"A conference?" Peter repeated in confusion. "I don't recall Bob going to any conference." Then, his eyes grew wide in realization. "No…maybe he got tricked into something dangerous."
"Something dangerous?" Dash gasped.
"Not exactly how I put it…it's pretty complicated to explain."
"Complicated…?" Violet repeated. "What do you mean?"
"That's—"
But before Peter can explain, Helen suddenly comes to the front door with a duffel bag. That made Peter jump scared right up to the ceiling.
"Kids, what are you doing here?" Helen asked her children with a concerned tone. "I thought you were back at the house."
"Uh, Mom?" Violet pointed to her mom to look up.
Peter was hanging upside down, sticking to the ceiling as Helen, Violet, and Dash looked at him in surprise.
"Oh, hey, Mrs. Parr," Peter greeted awkwardly.
"Peter has powers?" Dash asked in surprise while Jack-Jack giggled.
"Yep," Peter answered as he got down from the ceiling.
"Forget Tony Rydinger, Violet! You got a new crush now!" Dash said to Violet, who groaned in annoyance. Then, he turned to Peter with lots of questions. "Where did you get those powers? Are you really a Super? And do you have a super-suit?"
Peter answered Dash's excited questions one by one. "A spider bit me. Yes, I'm a Super. And yeah, I do have a super-suit. A new one, apparently."
"I knew it," Helen smirked.
Peter turned to Helen. "Wait, what!? What do you mean you knew?"
"I think I know a Super when I see one," Helen replied. "Plus, Edna wasn't the only one telling you were there. I knew it right from the very beginning when your aunt told me after dinner."
"What!? Mom knew already?" Dash exclaimed in surprise. "That's nuts!"
Violet looked at Peter in surprise. "So you were telling the truth."
"If you think that's crazy, hold on to your macadamias!" Peter said.
Peter began to explain everything that had happened so far in one breath. "Turns out there's this series of missing Supers going on where all the former Supers that went underground have gone missing, and nobody on the mainland knows where they are. Then, there's this Mirage lady who claims to be from a top-secret government division that SHIELD had never heard of before. But it turns out it was all just a big ruse set up by some wild-haired villain who used to be your father's biggest fan back in the glory days. So, now he's been luring out all the former Supers out of retirement to his remote island and killed them all with his previous Omnidroid prototypes he'd made for the past fifteen years as an act of getting back at all the Supers, including your father, and he's about to put himself in the limelight as the only hero left to stop his latest Omnidroid, which he's going to launch into the city in a few hours remaining, and–"
Peter took a deep breath in and out. "Actually, uh, yeah. That's pretty much it, yeah. You got all that?"
An awkward silence fell in until Dash spoke up. "So, Dad's on some kind of superhero mission!? That's so cool!"
"You think this is cool!? Your father is involved in a massive case of missing Supers, and you think it's all out of a spy movie? No, it is the opposite of cool! He's been kidnapped by the mastermind, and I was gonna suit up to go save him!"
Another awkward silence kicked in before Jack-Jack giggled, and Dash laughed. "And here we thought we got no sense of humor! You're gonna…go save Dad…"
But Peter didn't change his expressions. He was serious.
"To think all that was happening…," Helen muttered. "Not only is Bob in trouble, but he's also in the right because he got too close to the truth!?" She then looked at Peter. "And you were planning all this fun without telling us?"
"Wait, are you serious?" Violet asked, stammering in surprise. "And you have to… Okay, this is getting all too crazy!"
"Yeah," Dash agreed. "And, uh, why can't the Avengers go save Dad? Maybe the Fantastic Four? Or the X-Men? They dealt with stuff before, so they'll do it again. Why can't you go ask them?"
"And let some members of those teams have a reason or two to bust your dad's chops? No way!" Peter shook his head. Then, he softened as he continued solemnly. "It was their time to be heroes, but…not anymore. They're all in hiding. Even SHIELD knows that."
Violet and Dash looked on in surprise, saddened by that fact.
"Your dad's been dragged into this mess," Peter continued. "And I'm gonna go bail him out."
"You?" Violet asked.
"Yeah, me!" Peter nodded.
"Come on, Peter!" Dash pleaded. "Let us help save Dad! This is our big moment where we can use our powers!"
"No," said Peter. "It is not your big moment to help save your dad and the world. I already told you this is not something out of a spy movie. And besides, your mother is—" Then, as he gestured his hand to Helen, Peter quickly noticed she was gone. "Now, where'd she go!?"
Peter walked to his room, only to find two red super-suits on his bed, as Violet and Dash followed. Both were red and orange with a touch of black and an insignia of a yellow lowercase "i" in a black circle with an orange edge.
"Are those supersuits for us?" Violet asked, staring at the red suits for herself and Dash.
"I guess so," Peter guessed.
"We all get cool outfits!?" Dash asked excitedly as he zoomed out and reappeared, wearing his super-suit. "Look, I'm The Dash! The Dash likes this."
Violet picked up her suit. "Mom was packing one just like it." She then makes her hand invisible as she slowly touches it, and the super-suit vanishes.
Moments later, Violet and Dash were wearing their new super-suits as Peter spoke up. "Somehow, these suits seem to have tapped into your powers. This is definitely Edna's work."
Violet and Dash turned to see Peter wearing his super-suit in surprise.
"Wow!" Dash exclaimed. "Yeeeaahhh, baby!"
"That's really cool!" Violet said, nearly blushing as her face almost turned red.
"Thanks," Peter replied, noticing Violet's blush as he put on his mask. "Okay, then, let's go now."
"Whoah, whoah, wait just a minute!" Dash halted Peter. "Are you sure? We're coming with you."
"That's fine with me. Besides, it wouldn't be more fun without you guys," Peter replied. "But I just want to be clear that this isn't like a vacation or what happens on TV. We will save your father and stop Operation Kronos. Things may get messy, but you can come along if that's fine."
"And I'll be watching Jack-Jack for you while you're gone," A voice appeared.
"And Aunt May will be watching Jack-Jack for—" Peter said, then stopped mid-sentence to see Aunt May behind him and the kids. "Aunt May!? You're back."
"I just got back from getting groceries when I noticed you guys are wearing your super-suits," Aunt May said. "Hearing what you said, you're going to help Helen on a dangerous mission?"
"Yeah," Dash nodded. "A dangerous superhero mission!"
"Dash!" Violet yelled at him angrily.
Peter quickly told his aunt the same thing he said to Helen and the kids.
"All right," Aunt May said, understanding the situation. "So, we're dealing with a supervillain targeting the former Supers. Would revenge against all the Supers and staging himself in the limelight as a bigger hero be part of that motive?"
"Yep," Peter nodded.
"Peter, are you sure you know what you're doing?"
"I'll be fine. What about you? Still gonna watch Jack-Jack?"
"Yes, at least until you and the Parrs come back."
"Okay, then you'd best stay at the Parr's house. We don't want ours to be the center of attention."
"If you say so," Aunt May said as Jack-Jack giggled. "I was thinking the same thing. Just go find Bob – and keep him and his wife from dirtying their hands."
And so, Peter, Violet, and Dash followed Helen until they reached a private airfield an hour later.
"Since when can Mom fly!?" Violet asked, noticing a flashy private jet.
"I guess there's a lot about your Mom that you don't know," Peter replied as he and the Parr kids snuck aboard the jet while Helen went straight into its cockpit and fired up the engines. Dash hid behind one seat, Violet turned invisible in one of the seats, and Peter…hid himself inside the luggage container.
Soon, it was smooth flying through the blue skies.
Moments later, Helen changed into her super-suit, the same red suit as Violet's and Dash's, and threw her travel bag on one of the seats – Violet's.
"Violet!" Helen said, discovering her invisible daughter on the passenger's seat when she heard a faint scream of pain.
Violet quickly rematerialized. "It's not my fault! Dash ran away, and I knew I'd get blamed for it, and I thought he'd try to sneak on the plane—"
"That's not true!" Dash yelled.
"So, I came here, and you closed the doors before I could find him, and then you took off," Violet continued. "And it's not my fault!"
"You said, 'Something's up with Mom. We have to find out what!'" Dash argued back at Violet. "It was your idea! Your idea! Hundred percent all-yours, all-the-time idea!"
"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Helen halted her kids. "If you're all here, then…where's Peter!?"
The Parr kids looked at each other, then gave away Peter's hiding spot as Helen found him in the luggage container.
"Peter!" Helen cried in surprise. "You sneaky spider! What are you doing here, joining these stowaways!?"
"Well, what was I supposed to do, huh?" Peter said. "If you think I'm just gonna sit back in the mainland and watch your kids while you're taking over my rescue plan to save Bob and stop Operation Kronos, you have another thing coming."
"Your plan? You were the one who was planning on saving Bob without letting me and the kids know!" Helen replied. "And besides, even if I did believe you, I'm still mad at Bob for lying to me, not to mention how you're involved in this, so I'm not just gonna help you 'stop Operation Kronos,' but I'm gonna find Bob and set him straight when we all get back home. It's all too dangerous and ridiculous."
"If you're gonna pull it all off by just sneaking past their defenses, saving Bob, and not warning him about the danger, then you and I beg to differ. Also, I know Nomanisan, so you need me to help with this. After all, that place will be more bonkers and even worse than the last time Bob and I were there."
Knowing there was no time to change plans and that Peter might be right, Helen sighed, then turned to her kids. "All that aside, you left Jack-Jack alone?!"
Dash tried to reassure his mother. "No, we got someone, Mom. Someone great. We wouldn't do that."
"Yes, Mom, I'm completely stupid," Violet said sarcastically. "Of course, we got a sitter. Do you think I'm totally irresponsible? Thanks a lot!"
"All right. Well, who did you get?" Helen asked.
"Aunt May," Peter answered as the Parrs turned to him.
Moments later, Helen called Aunt May straight away to check on Jack-Jack.
"You don't have to worry about anything," Aunt May reassured her neighbor. "I'll watch Jack-Jack, no problem. Peter told me about your situation, so I'm at your house now. Plus, do you know Mozart makes babies smarter?"
"Are you sure, May?" Helen asked. "I mean, if anything, I would call the babysitting service."
"Like I said, I can handle this little guy, so you have nothing to worry about."
Suddenly, after Helen and Aunt May ended their calls and hung up, a warning signal sounded out from the cockpit just as Peter's spider-sense began tingling.
"Peter?" Helen noticed right away. "What's wrong?"
"My spider sense is tingling," Peter replied. "Something's coming this way! And it's not the welcoming committee."
Helen ran to the cockpit with her eyes wide to see a couple of missiles heading straight for them, so she quickly grabbed her headset. "India Golf Niner-Niner, transmitting in the blind guard. Disengage! Repeat, disengage!"
The jet was under attack! Peter, Violet, and Dash quickly fastened their seat belts. At the same time, Helen used some fancy flying skills to shake off the missiles by ducking, doing a barrel roll, and activating thrusters.
But the missiles still held their course straight for them. Helen then turned to the kids. "Vi, you have to put a force field around the plane!"
"But you said we weren't supposed to use our powers!" Violet replied.
"I know what I said! But listen to what I'm saying NOW!"
Looking outside the window, Peter and Dash can see more missiles.
"Mom?" Dash said with worry.
"They're still not disengaging!" Peter exclaimed.
"Put a field around us now!" Helen yelled at Violet.
"But Mom, I've never done one that big before!" Violet interrupted.
"Abort, abort, abort!" Helen exclaimed as the missiles were getting closer. Violet attempted to create a force field but to no avail. "Abort, abort, abort!"
In the heat of the moment, knowing it wouldn't happen, Helen quickly wrapped herself around her kids and Peter as the jet exploded in an orange-red ball of fire. Thankfully, she shaped herself later into a parachute, safely lowering her kids and Peter into the ocean.
Peter, Helen, and the Parr kids emerged from the water's surface.
"We're dead! We're dead!" Dash screamed. "We survived, but we're dead!"
"Everyone, chillax!" Peter told the Parrs, splashing water at them. "I'll tell you what we're not going to do. We're not gonna panic, and we're not gonna die! Got it!?"
Helen nodded in agreement. "Peter's right. We are not gonna die!" She then looked up at the missile trails in the sky, pointing to where it led. "Those were short-range missiles. Land-based. That way is our best bet."
"You want to go toward the people that tried to kill us?" Dash asked.
"If it means land, yes."
"You expect us to swim there?" Violet asked.
"I expect you...to trust me."
A moment later, Helen started to turn herself into a boat. Violet and Peter sat next to each other while Dash worked his legs at full speed as a motor to push them all to dry land. Together, they all headed towards the island of Nomanisan.
When they reached the island, it was nighttime as Helen, Violet, Peter, and Dash made it to the island's beach.
"What a trooper," Helen said to Dash. "I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks, Mom," Dash smiled.
Soon, the Parrs and Peter found a cave and started a fire to warm up.
"I think your father is in trouble," Helen said to the kids.
"If you haven't noticed, Mom, we're not doing so hot either," Violet replied.
"I'm going to look for him. And that means Peter is in charge until I get back."
"What?!" Dash blinked in surprise.
"You heard her," Violet said to her brother.
Peter halted Helen. "W-What!? What about me!? I'm the one who should save Bob here! You can't leave me out!"
"Watch me!" Helen said. "Besides, how are you supposed to go find Bob? You can't even find my kids."
"I will find Bob because I believed him! And because I am a Super now!"
Helen groaned. "You don't give up, do you!? You never gave up! From the first moment we went underground, you've been showing up out of nowhere, finishing what we started in the glory days."
"Yes! I was! But right now, I'm asking you to trust me on this one as I have come to trust in Bob."
"I already trusted you! And I already know you're a Super!"
"Then, why didn't you let me help?! You knew I was involved with your husband's secret hero work that one time, yet you knew I'm a Super from my aunt!"
"Yeah, I knew that," Helen said as she looked at Peter. "I knew that because every time you've been on the news recently or saving people and stopping crooks, you were the reason Bob has been reliving the glory days, and it hurts!" Then, she looked down sadly. "Or…I thought you were the reason because it would never hurt Bob more than it did every day of his life how he missed being a hero and how his job was so frustrating. I also knew that because I thought if anyone could train my kids…could help them learn how to defend themselves and be proper Supers, it was you! The only Super left standing!"
Suddenly, Peter realized what Helen had just said. "You're kidding, right!? I-I mean, if they can't… They're kids with powers. I'm just one Spidey! Look, I already know people think I'm the new Super on the block, despite my age and everything." Then, he began to start fighting tears. "But...that didn't matter anyway because I have people who had turned my life around, and that's all I needed. And now, one of them is in trouble, and I'm supposed to save him. I know that whatever I did would never be enough to atone. That much is clear. I lost Uncle Ben once. I'm not losing to someone close to him, too."
"I get that, Peter," Helen said calmly as she touched Peter's shoulder. "That's why I'm trusting you. I don't blame you for what you did, especially for making things easier for the police. You were just trying to help us by keeping us on the straight and narrow, and not many would. You're about Violet's age, very mature, and you've been doing things Bob and I never dreamed of doing. You just got something we've never seen before, so there's nothing you can't do, Peter."
Peter paused for a moment, then nodded. "Okay."
Helen then reached inside her bag and pulled out three black Super masks – one for herself and the other two for the kids.
"Put these on," Helen said, handing the two masks to Violet and Dash. "Your identity is your most valuable possession. Protect it. And if anything goes wrong, use your powers."
"But you said never to use our powers," Violet said.
Helen sighed. "I know what I said, but this is different now. Remember the bad guys on those shows you used to watch on Saturday mornings? Well, these guys here are not like the ones on TV. They won't exercise restraint because you're children. They will kill you if they get the chance, so do not give them that chance. That's why Peter here will help train you. Stay hidden, keep each other safe. I'll be back by morning."
"Mom," Violet spoke up before Helen left. "Mom, what happened on the plane… I'm sorry. I wanted to help. I mean, when you asked me to...I'm sorry."
"It isn't your fault. It wasn't fair for me to suddenly ask so much of you," Helen replied. "But, like I said, things are different now. And doubt is a luxury we can't afford anymore, sweetie. You have more power than you realize. Don't think, and don't worry. If the time comes, you'll know what to do. It's in your blood."
As Dash and Violet watched their mom disappear into the jungle, they turned to Peter and sat beside him.
"Are you okay?" Dash asked Peter.
"I'm fine," Peter replied. "Honestly, sometimes I can't believe your parents are actually Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. My uncle met your dad in the glory days, and my aunt met your mother before I moved here. What are the odds?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Violet asked.
"My uncle used to believe in Supers. If it wasn't for him, I…I wouldn't be here."
"Your uncle loved Supers? What happened to him?"
"Let's just say he was killed by a mugger and…I couldn't save him. But he told me to move on without him and never give up hope. He also told me that with great power comes great responsibility."
Violet and Dash looked at each other, then back at Peter in awe as he continued, "But I then realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant – that I have a responsibility to use my newly found powers to help people instead of myself. Not only that, but I can help do greater good." He then turned to the Parr kids. "The same thing can happen to you. So, I'll ask you again - do you really want to learn to be Supers?"
"Yeah," Dash answered in excitement.
"Then, I am your mentor!" Peter said. "Now, let's get you to superhero shape."
And so, Peter ran Violet and Dash through some intensive superhero training. They did basic fighting styles, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, reflexes, and other exercises. Peter and Violet even blushed at each other during the montage.
Finally, an hour later, Peter decided that the Parr kids had trained enough as they sat close to the fire. Violet was practicing generating force fields while Dash got bored.
"Well, not that this isn't fun," Dash said as he got up and grabbed a flaming stick. "But I'm gonna go look around."
"What do you think is going on here?" Violet asked, being serious. "You think we're on vacation or something?! Like Peter said, this isn't something out of a spy movie! Mom and Dad's lives could be in jeopardy. Or worse, their marriage."
"Their marriage?" Dash repeated. "The bad guys are trying to wreck Mom and Dad's marriage."
Violet sighed. "Oh, forget it. You're so immature."
"Okay, I'm gonna go look around."
"Mom said to stay hidden," Violet reminded Dash.
"I'm not gonna leave the cave. Sheesh!"
As Dash wandered further into the cave, Peter and Violet realized they were alone, making themselves blush even more.
"You know, I can see you push your hair back," Peter told Violet.
"What? Really?" Violet asked.
"I mean, not only can it help you feel different, but I'd like to see a whole new you," Peter replied.
"You know, Peter. When I met you, I thought you were just an average student with whom I shared classes with, but I never thought you were also a Super."
"Yeah, I get that a lot," Peter nodded. "And Violet…? The thing is, I've fallen for you. Like, hard. Real hard. I thought you were expecting someone more handsome under my homemade mask…and I just…I don't want to lose you when you and your family relocate."
Violet slowly smiled. "I know, and it's okay."
Peter got up to go after Dash. "Yeah, so…uh, I'm gonna go find your brother."
As Peter wandered into the cave, he found Dash on a smooth floor.
"Hey, Peter, check this out," Dash said as he pointed at an enormous, man-made tunnel and tried to echo through it. "COOL!"
"Yeah, that's great," Peter replied. "But still, we need to—"
Suddenly, Peter stopped because his spider-sense began tingling again.
"What is it?" Dash asked.
"This is not a cave!" Peter said as he and Dash heard a rumbling sound and noticed an orange glow from the tunnel's depths, growing brighter and brighter.
But as the glow got closer, Peter and Dash quickly realized it wasn't a cave. It was a rocket exhaust tunnel from Syndrome's rocket base!
"We need to go now!" Peter exclaimed as he and Dash ran back to Violet, who was still practicing her force fields.
"Violet, we need to move!" Peter said.
"Why? What did Dash do!?" Violet cried.
"This wasn't him! RUN!"
Peter carried Violet as the three scrambled out, just as a colossal fireball burst out of the cave. Shuddering at how close they were to being fried alive, Peter, Violet, and Dash sighed in relief. Then, they looked up to see a rocket taking off into the sky in the distance, carrying the Omnidroid.
Peter's eyes grew wide as he realized what had happened - Syndrome had launched his Omnidroid. He then turned to the kids. "Come on, let's go."
Realizing the jungle can be crawling with security, Peter and the Parr kids decided to spend the night at the beach, thinking it'd be safe.
Peter, Violet, and Dash were asleep on the white sand as the morning sun rose over the ocean. As Dash awoke to the sounds of the sea, he jumped off Violet and shuddered in disgust. Then, he saw his sister sleeping beside Peter, wrapping her arm around him.
"Wake up, lovebirds!" Dash cried as he laughed and stretched his legs while Peter and Violet got up.
"Well, that was peaceful," Peter yawned. "Before we find your parents, I think it'd be best to do some notes."
"Okay," Dash shrugged.
"I think the former Supers were missing and dead for a reason. It turns out no secret government group was involved."
"That's what's important?"
"Just listen. First off, it's about how this case got started… Since Gazerbeam and some of the X-Men went missing despite having trouble adjusting to civilian life, I thought there might be a similarity. But how and why did these 'missing Supers' incidents happen so fast…if Gazerbeam wasn't the only one?"
"There were others?" Violet guessed.
"Exactly," Peter nodded. "In my dream, I saw a list of Supers, all gone and terminated by Syndrome's previous Omnidroid prototypes. Over fifteen years and a few months from now, there were more and more similar incidents. All the Supers were brought to this island as test subjects, and nobody on the mainland knows where they are."
Dash's jaw dropped. "No way!"
Peter continued on. "Next, there's this Mirage lady who said she represents a top-secret government division that designs experiment tech. But that's highly impossible."
"Impossible, how?" Violet asked.
"SHIELD doesn't know about that division," Peter replied. "In fact, I don't think they have any database on Mirage. Eventually, she went over to the former Supers, offering them a chance to do secret hero work and defend the world if they shut down the robot. Just like what happened with your dad, plus me."
Violet and Dash were surprised.
"So, once we find your parents and possibly other surviving Supers, we'll get off the island and stop the Omnidroid Syndrome just launched. Come on, let's go."
"Okay," The Parr kids agreed as they trudged along with Peter into the jungle.
"You really thought of everything," Violet said.
"Thanks, I get that a lot," Peter replied, taking that compliment.
Meanwhile, Helen searched all over Syndrome's base for her husband. When she finally caught up to him with Mirage and the other two Supers, Helen chewed out her husband for lying to her for months. She even punched Mirage right in the jaw with her fist.
"She was helping us escape!" Bob tried to explain.
"No, that's what I was doing," Helen snapped.
The other Supers - Captain America and Wolverine - tried to explain that Mirage switched sides, but there wasn't time. Mirage, abandoning all loyalty to Syndrome, told the adult Supers that Syndrome's guards are going after Peter and the Parr kids.
Bob was surprised that Peter was here with his family. As the heroes hurried to the jungle, leaving Mirage behind, Helen slapped Bob on the wrist.
"I should've told you I was fired. I admit it," Bob said. "But I didn't want you to worry."
"You didn't want me to worry?" Helen replied angrily. "And now we're running for our lives through some godforsaken jungle!"
"You keep trying to pick a fight, but I'm still just happy you're alive."
Around the same time, Peter, Violet, and Dash walked along the jungle's edge with an easy spring in their steps.
"Hey, I just want to say you guys did well," Peter said to the Parr kids.
"Did well?" Dash replied. "Did well?! We've done awesome!"
"Yeah, you've done awesomely."
Peter and the Parr kids laughed, but their laughter faded when a colored bird appeared in a nearby tree. "Identification, please."
Dash was thrilled and mesmerized. "Hey, guys! Look, it talks! There, that one!"
"Voice key incorrect," The bird said.
"Voice key?" Violet repeated in confusion.
"Guys, that is no bird," Peter warned the kids as he quickly webbed the mechanical bird before it set off an ear-splitting alarm. "We need to move!"
"Where are we going?" Dash asked.
"Away from here!" Violet answered.
They ran, but the bird gave chase, alerting the guards. Peter and the Parr kids kept running until they were surrounded by Syndrome's guards, riding high-speed velocipedes and armed with guns.
"Guys, remember what your mom said," Peter whispered to Violet and Dash.
"What?" Dash asked.
"That if anything goes wrong, use your powers."
Violet immediately understood it and turned invisible while Dash ran at lightning speed.
"They're Supers!" One of the guards yelled. "Get the boy! You get the spider, and I'll get the girl!"
At that moment, Peter, Violet, and Dash used their powers to escape Syndrome's guards as the odds seemed stacked against them.
Peter, as Spider-Man, swings across the jungle and the trees. Then, he used his webs at one of the guards to defeat him.
Meanwhile, Dash continued running through the jungle as he evaded the guards on velocipods. He even became stoked that he could run on water!
Peter continued through the jungle, looking for any sign of the others. Just then, he felt like someone was poking him with a stick. Violet managed to club the guard, knocking him out and giving herself enough time to find Peter.
But as soon as the two teen Supers reunited and embraced, a guard saw them together and started firing. Peter and Violet made it to the river and dove in, thinking the guard would lose them if they floated still in the water. Still, the guard figured out where they were when he threw a handful of dirt into the river.
Just as the guard was about to open fire, Dash appeared and took on the guard to stop him from shooting. Peter and Violet both got out of the water okay.
"Don't touch my sister!" Dash shouted as he fought the guard, but the guard knocked the boy down, and he was about to take aim and shoot him.
Suddenly, Violet leaped in, and a fantastic sense of powerful energy surged through her as she created a spherical force field around herself and Dash.
"How are you doing that?!" Dash asked his sister in surprise.
"I don't know!" Violet answered.
"Whatever you do, don't stop!"
Dash managed to set the force field rolling by running up inside it like a hamster running on wheels. Together, the Parr kids maneuvered the force field out of the brush and down the hillside, knocking down more of Syndrome's guards.
Peter swings over to catch up with the Parr kids when suddenly…they roll straight into Bob and Helen, flattening them like dough, revolving in and out.
"Mom! Dad! Hey!" Violet yelled as she disintegrated the force field, and the entire Parr family ended up in a big heap on the ground.
"Kids!" Bob exclaimed happily. "You're all right!"
"We were so worried about you," Violet said.
"I thought I'd never see you again."
"Oh, you're all right," Helen cried happily.
Peter caught up to the reunited Parr family as he smiled. "Bob! You're still alive!"
Bob turned to see Peter in surprise. "Peter!? You're here, too?"
Peter then turned to see other Supers who were with Bob and Helen. He thought he recognized them from Uncle Ben's stories. "Captain America!? And…Wolverine? You're alive!?"
"Still alive and kicking, kid," Wolverine said.
"So, you're the new Super Mr. Incredible told us about," Captain America said.
But everyone didn't have time to get reacquainted because more guards and velocipods appeared, and they were fighting for their lives. The heroes and the Parr family fought off Syndrome's guards in a blur of superpowers. The guards were no match for the Incredibles and the other Supers until…
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Hey, time out!" A voice appeared as the Parr family found themselves floating in mid-air, unable to move.
Peter recognized that immobile ray and who the voice belonged to. "Syndrome."
Syndrome himself appeared, addressing the scene with a smile. "Well, lookie here, the itsy-bitsy Spider-Man has returned for more? I can even see Captain America and Wolverine over there, too." He then turned to the Incredibles family with amusement. "And what else have we got here? Matching uniforms?"
But when Syndrome saw Elastigirl, he was utterly surprised. "Oh, no! Elastigirl!?" He laughed hysterically out loud as he looked back at Mr. Incredible. "You married Elastigirl? Whoa!" Then, he looked at Violet and Dash. "Oh, and got biz-zay! It's a whole family of supers! Looks like I've hit the jackpot! Oh, this is just too good!"
Syndrome had captured all the heroes as Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash, Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine were all captive side-by-side in suspending immobile rays.
Syndrome delightedly changed the channel, showing every news channel about the Omnidroid that landed in the city. He turned to the imprisoned Supers, waiting for their reactions. "Huh? HUH?! Oh, come on! You gotta admit, this is cool! It's just like a movie! The robot will emerge dramatically and do some damage. Throngs of screaming people! And just when all hope is lost, SYNDROME will save the day! I'll be a bigger hero than you ever were!"
"You mean you killed off real heroes so that you could…pretend to be one?!" Mr. Incredible asked.
"Oh, I'm a real hero, all right. Real enough to defeat YOU!" Syndrome replied. "And I did it without your precious gifts, your oh-so-special powers. I'll give them heroics. I'll give them the most spectacular heroics anyone's ever seen!"
"Yeah, spectacular is such a strong word to put it," Spider-Man said, interrupting Syndrome. "No need to get all hasty when your plan is going so well, right? I thought you were gonna sit back and watch."
Syndrome then turned to Spider-Man, pointing at him. "What are you talking so big for!? You were just the new Super in town in your new spidey pajamas!"
"You actually have the nerve to say that to me? You're the one who got all cocky and started killing off all the Supers. Haven't you had your fun already? Because unfortunately for you, you forgot a few hiccups in your plan."
"Oh, yeah? What's that?"
"First, your Omnidroid is still a learning robot, so it'll know you're controlling it. Second, you should definitely lose the cape, because tights and spandex are very in right now. And thirdly, superheroes are still illegal. Whether your plan succeeds or not, it's still the law you should worry about!"
The Incredibles, Captain America, and Wolverine looked at Spider-Man in surprise as he continued, "I mean, seriously, buddy, all your inventions and your assets, and yet you're squandering all of them for your own personal grudge and gain. You should've just apologized to everyone and go back home like a good boy."
"Shut up!" Syndrome exclaimed angrily. "And don't call me Buddy! What's so wrong with doing things because I can?"
"Look, I'm sorry things didn't work out for you way back then, but you brought this upon yourself! You've just been focusing on all the bad things you've done, like killing off the former Supers who had friends and families, when all you could've done is…let go of the past and keep moving forward."
Syndrome just scoffed. "HA! And you're any better?! You've been turning some heads around. And here I thought you and I have much more in common than you might think! Well, I'll convince everyone more than you ever did. And then, when I'm old and have had my little fun, I'll sell my inventions so everyone can be superheroes. EVERYONE can be a Super, and when everyone's a Super, no one will be."
"I'd like to see you try, bub!" Wolverine retorted angrily.
Syndrome turned to exit as he cackled in triumph. "Now, if you all excuse me, there's a whole city out there waiting for me to 'save it' with my name on it. Sorry to crush your little Super spirits, but I'm off to the main event!"
And with that, Syndrome hopped into his jet and sped off into the open sea to Municiberg. Like his plan prophesied, the Omnidroid was already unleashed, ripping through the city and tearing up things. At the same time, the terrified people ran and screamed in panic.
Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD, also noticed the robot's attack from the SHIELD Helicarrier. In no time, a message was sent to reassemble the Avengers. Tony Stark, the billionaire head of Stark Industries, commanded JARVIS to prepare his armor.
In mere moments, the armored Avenger, Iron Man, rocketed out of Stark Tower and headed towards the city's streets, where the Omnidroid was still causing chaos. Iron Man zoomed in on the scene just in time, only to see Syndrome had the situation well in hand.
"Who are you!?" Iron Man asked.
"Stand back, I'll defend the city," Syndrome said to Iron Man and the crowd. "After all, someone needs to teach this hunk of metal a few manners!" He then secretly used his remote control, and the Omnidroid's arm fell off while faking a punch. The crowd went wild as Syndrome reveled in their cheers.
But JARVIS warned Iron Man of Syndrome using a remote control on his wrist to control the Omnidroid, so Tony quickly figured out that Syndrome was behind it all. Suddenly, before anything else, the Omnidroid shot a laser at the remote from Syndrome's wrist and the rocket boots, causing him to lose control and send him straight into the building, where he's knocked out cold.
"Well, that went well," Iron Man said.
With Syndrome's plan backfired, the Omnidroid continued thrashing the city. Soon, the other Supers arrived to help out. The next thing they know, the reassembled Avengers were no match for the mechanical monster.
Meanwhile, after Syndrome left the imprisoned Supers in his prison chamber, Bob blamed himself for dragging everyone into this mess. "I'm sorry. This is my fault. I've been a lousy father. I've been blind to what I have. I was so obsessed with being undervalued that I undervalued all of you."
While Bob was pouring his heart out about how sorry he was for overlooking his family and what they meant to him, Peter noticed that Violet used her forcefield to substitute the immobile ray, breaking her shackles and freeing herself.
"Well," Violet said, getting everyone's attention. "Dad has made excellent progress today, but I think it's time we wind down now."
With Violet hitting the control panel and freeing everyone, the Incredibles, Spider-Man, and the other Supers knew they had to get off Nomanisan and save Municiberg.
"We need to get back to the mainland," Bob said.
"I saw an aircraft hanger on my way in," Helen replied. "Straight ahead, I think."
The heroes made their way to the hangar of Syndrome's base, but Helen could see there were no jets. "This is the right hangar, but I don't see any jets."
"A jet's not fast enough," Bob replied.
"What's faster than a jet?"
"How about a rocket?" Dash asked as he and the others turned to the one way off the island – a backup rocket.
"Great, I can't fly a rocket," Helen said.
"You don't need to fly it," Peter replied. "We'll use the coordinates from the previous launch. Then, your stretches and my webs can help hold the van onto the rocket to hold everyone in place."
"That'll work," Helen shrugged.
"Wait, Peter, won't it hurt you?" Violet asked.
"It might, but don't worry, I've seen worse… I think."
"You're good," Dash complimented in awe. "And you're still awesome!"
"Thanks, I get that a lot," Peter replied as Violet hugged him.
"I bet Syndrome has changed the password by now," Bob said. "How will I get into the computer?"
Just then, from a distance, a voice appeared. "Say, please."
It was Mirage. She was at the control panel above them. She helped the heroes get the coordinates they needed from the launch computer and set up the rocket launch.
Moments later, the rocket split, and Elastigirl and Spider-Man held onto it and the van as it went to the mainland.
"Are we there yet?" Dash asked.
"We get there when we get there!" Bob replied as he opened the window and leaned his head out. "How you doing, honey?"
"Do I have to answer!?" Helen said, stretching to the max on top of the van to keep it attached to the jet's opening latches, as did Peter with his webs.
"How you doing, Peter?" Violet asked.
"Just feeling the breeze in my face!" Peter replied.
Once they reached the city, Helen and Peter each released their hold on the landing craft as the disengaged van streaked through the sky and hit the pavement road. The landing was hairy, but Bob struggled to take control of the truck.
Soon, the van overturned and tumbled down until it parallel parked itself straight to the part of town where the Omnidroid was.
"Is…is everybody okay back there?" Bob asked everyone.
"Super-duper, Dad!" Violet said, smiling.
"Let's do that again," Dash agreed, laughing.
"You know," Captain America spoke up with concern. "We could've been here earlier if you took Traction Avenue like Elastigirl told you."
"That would take us downtown," Mr. Incredible replied. "Seventh Avenue's more direct."
"You should not take Seventh Avenue," Elastigirl argued. "Why would you think it'd be faster?"
"Because it is faster with fewer traffic lights."
"But with more cars, Bob! Everyone knows that."
"Look, the important thing is we're all here and right on time," Bob reassured them. "Isn't that right, kids?"
"Eh, Mom's right," Violet said.
"Yep," Dash nodded.
"Well, what about you, Spidey?" Bob asked Peter.
"Yeah, you should definitely not have taken Seventh," Peter replied with an uneasy look.
Just then, everyone watched the Omnidroid as the city was in complete chaos. Not only that, but they saw other arriving Supers joining in on the fray.
Captain America recognized his friends and former teammates. "Iron Man! Hulk! Thor! Falcon! Black Widow! Hawkeye!"
"Cool!" Dash exclaimed in excitement.
"This little reunion can only mean one thing," Helen said, seeing some old friends.
"The Avengers are back, courtesy of SHIELD," Wolverine answered.
"If they're fighting Syndrome's learning robot, then they are in big trouble," Peter said cautiously. "Those were like their best attacks and weapons, and they did nothing to it!" He then quickly noticed Bob walking toward the battle. "Where are you going!?"
"Wait here and stay hidden," Bob said. "I'm going in."
But Peter stopped Bob. "While what!? I just wait on the sidelines and don't do anything? No way, Jose! Plus, the Avengers need Captain America's leadership out there, and Wolverine can help, too."
"Well, I'm asking you and Helen to wait with the kids," Bob replied.
"And I'm telling you no way," Peter insisted. "You and I dealt with this thing before. We can do it again…except it's a model 10."
"Not a chance, Peter," Helen said. "Bob's my husband. I'm with him. For better or worse."
"I have to do this alone," Bob told Peter and Helen sternly.
Helen became upset. "What is this whole mess to you? Playtime? So you can be Mr. Incredible again?"
"No!" Bob said.
"Then what? What is it?" Helen asked.
"I'm not... I-I'm not strong enough."
"Strong enough. And this will make you stronger? That's what this is? Some sort of workout!?"
"I CAN'T LOSE YOU AGAIN!" Bob shouted as he grabbed Helen by the shoulders. Then, he looked down. "I can't. Not again… I'm not strong enough."
Helen was stunned and touched, as were Violet and Dash. Bob thought they were dead in the jet's explosion and couldn't bear to risk it again.
A saddened Peter took off his mask and looked at Bob straight. "Um, Bob... I'm sorry things didn't work out for the both of us. Maybe it just...wasn't meant to be. And I could've warned you or should've warned you, but…I thought it would make you feel like you let down your family again." He then looked down with a sigh. "I mean, I don't blame you. I saved the day in secret countless times. I got dragged into a big case of missing Supers that later became an evil plot by some nerdy, rich supervillain. I trained Violet and Dash, and…I'm just one little Spidey filling in the big shoes of a Super."
Bob and Helen looked at Peter in awe as he continued, "But look, Bob, bad things happen very often. They make us who we are, but there are good things that happen, too. Like you and Helen happened…and the kids happened. But you need to know that your family loves you, no matter what. And with the tremendous will to protect those you care about, even a former Super can stand up and become stronger than any threat that comes knocking. So, please don't make this entire city, and not to mention SHIELD, my aunt, and every Super still alive out there, pay for our screwups."
Encouraged by Peter's words, Helen leaned over to Bob and kissed him. "Peter's right, Bob. If we work together, you won't have to be."
"I don't know what will happen," Bob replied.
"Hey, we're superheroes. What could happen?"
Suddenly, Peter's spider-sense tingled as a vast shadow loomed over. It was the Omnidroid! He shoots his webs at Violet and Dash, quickly saving them before the robot's leg and foot crush them and the van.
But as everyone was about to go to the other side, the Omnidroid's other foot slammed down, blocking Peter and the Parr kids.
"Vi! Dash! No!" Helen shouted as the Omnidroid was about to crush the kids when Violet created a force field to keep herself, Dash, and Peter safe.
But the Omnidroid used its massive bulk to slam into the force field, knocking Violet down unconscious and causing the force field to vanish.
"Violet…?" Dash called out to his sister.
The Omnidroid was about to deliver another crushing blow when Peter used his strength to hold it up. Then Mr. Incredible stepped in and got under the Omnidroid to help him with his arms and legs.
"Bob!" Peter cried.
"Go, Peter! Go!" Bob shouted.
Spider-Man nodded as he carried Violet and took off with Dash behind him. Just then, the Omnidroid grabbed Mr. Incredible and threw him into a glass window of a building.
As the battle raged on, Frozone arrived at the scene with a trail of ice.
"Frozone! Yeah!" Bob greeted.
Spider-Man carefully sets Violet down as he brings the Parr kids away from the battle. He hugged her gently as she regained consciousness. "You're all right!"
"I'm okay, Peter, really," Violet said.
"So, Peter, do we get to fight the giant robot with Mom and Dad and the Avengers now?" Dash asked. "Please?"
"I don't know," Spider-Man replied. "if your parents let you in on the fight, it'd be only so they can keep an eye on you." Then, watching the fight from a distance, they noticed the Omnidroid's claw and arm fell off.
Peter quickly remembered. "Syndrome's remote! It controls the robot!" He then turned to the Parr kids. "Listen, I'll go out there and distract the robot! While I rile it up, that'll leave a maneuver from your dad to throw the remote to you, Dash, and you give it to me."
"That might work," Violet agreed.
"Cool idea!" Dash nodded.
"Come on, guys! We've got a city to save," Peter said as he put his hand in the middle of their circle. Violet and Dash put their hands in the middle, too.
As Peter planned, Dash headed down the street as he called out to his father. "Dad! Throw it, throw it!"
Seeing what Peter was up to, Bob understood the idea as he threw Syndrome's remote in the air like a football so his son could reach the gadget. "Go long!"
Just as Omnidroid was about to chase after Dash, Peter shot his webs to distract the robot. "All right, Omnidroid! You want me? Come and get me!"
The Omnidroid chased Peter as he tried to dodge the robot's firing shots. Everyone can see that he's distracting the robot for them. Captain America uttered a battle cry. "Avengers…Spider-Man…and the Incredibles…assemble!"
"The Incredibles? Nice ring to it," Helen nodded as she and Captain America threw a manhole at the Omnidroid's laser beam.
The Hulk suddenly appeared to tackle the robot while Frozone swooped in to save Dash, who was still holding Syndrome's remote.
The Omnidroid decided that enough was enough. It threw the Hulk aside at Peter and thundered down after Dash and Frozone, making a massive splash of water and sending them flying. Frozone managed to turn that wave of water into snow so Dash could land safely, but Dash lost the remote.
When Bob went after the remote, the Omnidroid fired its claw at him and trapped him while it flew. Frozone froze the ground beneath the Omnidroid while Helen stretched herself to the pole as a rope to make the robot fall.
Suddenly, the remote moved by itself. Violet made herself invisible and got the remote as she went over to Peter, Helen, Dash, Frozone, Wolverine, Iron Man, and the other Avengers.
"Violet! You got it! You got the remote!" Peter said as he held the remote in his hand.
"A remote?" Frozone asked. "A remote that controls what?"
"The Omnidroid," Iron Man answered. "Turns out that Syndrome guy was controlling it, but he's out cold for the moment."
"One of them must have a shutdown button," Captain America said as everyone could see various combinations of buttons.
Peter pressed one button, and it caused the Omnidroid to rocket over the ducked Supers and crash into a building. But it got itself up already.
"It's coming back!" Dash exclaimed as he grabbed the remote from Peter and pressed another button that released his dad from the Omnidroid's claw. "That wasn't right."
"Give me that!" Violet said, snatching the remote from her brother.
Peter looked at the freed Bob and looked back at the approaching Omnidroid. "We can't make a dent in it!"
Dash tapped Peter's shoulder. "You said you and Dad fought it before, right?"
"Well, if anything, the only thing hard enough to penetrate it is…" Peter then suddenly remembered the first encounter with the Omnidroid at Nomanisan and how he and Bob made the Omnidroid destroy itself. "…itself!"
Bob had the same idea. "…itself!"
Peter turned to the Avengers. "Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye. Can you guys help Frozone distract the robot while we figure out which buttons to push?"
"Gladly," Thor said as he spun his mighty hammer, Mjolnir. "You can count on us, little Spider-Man."
"It's just Spider-Man," Peter corrected.
"You got it!" Hulk said, pounding his fists for the Omnidroid.
"I'll take that as a yes, kid," Iron Man agreed.
As the Avengers and Frozone went over to the Omnidroid, Peter hurried over to Bob. "Bob, we need to take out its CPU again! If we use one of the robot's claws as our launching torpedo, we can aim it straight at its CPU."
"That might work," Bob agreed as Helen pushed another button that activated its rocket, and then it stopped.
"Press that button again!" Bob shouted as Helen pushed another button that made the claw spin. "No, the other one! The first one!"
"First button, got it!" Helen exclaimed.
"It's getting closer!" Dash screamed as Frozone and the other Avengers tried to hold the Omnidroid off.
"Get out of here, kids! Go with Peter and find a safe spot!"
"We're not going anywhere!" Violet said.
"Press the button!" Bob cried, still holding the claw.
"Not yet!" Helen shouted back.
"What are you waiting for!?" Bob asked as the Omnidroid got closer and closer.
"A closer target! You got one shot!" Helen yelled as she quickly pushed the button that made the claw rocket on fire.
"Everybody, duck!" Peter exclaimed as Bob released the robot's claw, which blasted through the Omnidroid's center, taking out its CPU power core.
The Omnidroid fell into the river and exploded.
Peter sighed in relief. "It's over."
Just then, the crowds of people cheered the glorious return of the Supers.
"You see that?" The old man said to the other elderly citizens. "That's the way to do it. That's old school."
"Yeah. No school like the old school," The second old man agreed.
"Are you kidding?" A third old man, Stan Lee himself, said. "I've seen epic battles of such universal proportions and crazy situations back in my day. But as we always say, 'Excelsior'!"
"Just like old times," Frozone said, enjoying the moment.
"Just like old times," Mr. Incredible agreed as he patted Frozone.
"Yeah, it's great working together, just like the old days," Peter said. "But I think we should go home now." Then, he felt a hand on his shoulder as Peter turned to see the Avengers.
Captain America spoke up. "You went through a lot trying to fill in our shoes while we went underground. But still, thanks for the heads-up."
"Thanks. I went through a lot," Peter said. "Elastigrl told me that the news was all over about me recently, and sometimes there were people who say stuff about me, and it's unfair."
"Fair or unfair, I know who you are," Captain America replied. "We all do."
Peter blinked in surprise. "Wait, really?"
"While I went underground as Steve Rogers, I overheard some people and talked to them, the ones you helped. They told me you saved their lives and that you're not interested in rewards, recognition, or thanks."
"I wasn't interested in all that stuff because being famous ain't the same as being a true Super. I mean, all that fame doesn't matter."
"And neither does the newspapers, the politicians, and the whole world. What they say doesn't matter because they don't define who you are. You do. You determine who you are by your actions and your words. The time will come when we Supers will return, so until then, we'll just have to keep fighting like you did."
"Yeah, thanks," Peter nodded.
"And who knows?" Iron Man said. "Even if we're legal again, you might join the Avengers."
"No thanks," Peter said as he looked back at the Incredibles and Frozone with a smile. "I'm already part of a teamwork."
A moment later, Spider-Man and the Incredibles were driven home with Rick Dicker from the National Supers Agency and Nick Fury of SHIELD.
"We've frozen all of Syndrome's assets," Rick said. "If he sneezes, we'll be there with a handkerchief and handcuffs. The people of this country are indebted to you."
"Does this mean we can come out of hiding?" Bob asked.
"Wait, what about Wolverine!?" Peter asked as well, worried about him.
"Wolverine will be fine in no time," Nick Fury said.
"Let the politicians figure that out," Rick replied as he looked at Bob. "But we've been asked to assure you we'll handle everything else. You did good, Bob."
Helen was on the phone, keen to get back home to check on Aunt May and Jack-Jack as she listened to Aunt May's messages.
Peter was sitting next to Violet. "Hey, I'm glad you took my advice about wearing your hair back."
"Yeah," Violet replied, blushing. "Thanks, Peter."
"That was the best vacation ever!" Dash exclaimed happily. "I love our family."
"Bob, listen to this," Helen said with concern as she and Bob leaned in to hear a message from Aunt May. "Helen, this is May Parker. There's a man outside who claims to be a replacement sitter. He had wild orange hair, a suit with a big 'S' and a cape. And he's got Jack-Jack."
"Replacement?" Helen repeated. "I didn't call a replacement."
The Parrs exchanged worried looks as they turned to Peter, whose eyes grew wide in fear.
"Auntie!" Peter exclaimed worryingly as he quickly ran to the Parr residence, only to find his aunt lying on the floor. "Auntie! Auntie, stay with me!"
Suddenly, Peter's spider-sense tingled as he turned to see the Incredibles frozen by Syndrome and his immobile ray while carrying Jack-Jack in his arms.
"The baby's sleeping," Syndrome said as he laughed wickedly. "And so is the sleeping granny!"
Peter gently put down his aunt and stood between Syndrome and the Incredibles. "You just don't know when to quit! Let them and Jack-Jack go."
Syndrome giggled once more. "I don't think so. You took away my future. I'm just simply returning the favor. If you need me, I'll be a good mentor around here. Supportive, encouraging, everything that you weren't. And in time, who knows? He might make a good sidekick."
"Your future!?" Peter repeated. "Oh, come on now. Raising a baby like Jack-Jack to be your henchman? It won't do you any good."
"I was so close to doing whatever it takes to get the fame and glory I deserve," Syndrome said. "But you had to butt in and make me trip the finish line!"
"That's only because you don't get it, right?"
"What…!? What was that!?"
"Being a Super isn't about your fancy gadgets and whatnot. It comes from within. But do you honestly think the world will still love you because of those things? Your little revenge plot just took a twist."
"What are you getting at!?" Syndrome asked.
"How about I rewrite this scenario? A fan got rejected by his own hero many years ago, then he grows up and plays supervillain by killing off all the former Supers based on a Greek myth. So, another fan turns into a Super and puts him down. I send you to jail, and it's happily ever after."
Syndrome began to sneer. "You know, here I thought we have much more in common than you might think. But…I guess not!" He tossed the Incredibles aside and blasted a hole in the roof, revealing a hovering jet above the house.
"Thanks a ton for ruining everything!" Syndrome said, still holding Jack-Jack. "But at least I'll be taking one swell consolation prize."
As Syndrome flew upward through the roof toward his jet, Peter asked Dash to take Aunt May to his home, where she quickly regained consciousness. Then, something crazy happened – Jack-Jack suddenly burst into flames, turned into heavy metal, and morphed into a mini monster.
The baby had powers, after all.
While Jack-Jack headlocks Syndrome, Peter uses his webs as the rope on Syndrome's rocket boots to climb up to both the villain and Jack-Jack. But the baby ripped a valve from one of Syndrome's rocket boots, causing him to slam headfirst into the jet's wing and drop Jack-Jack.
Peter quickly grabbed Jack-Jack in his arms, but who would save him and the baby?
"Bob, throw me!" Helen shouted as her husband threw her into the air. She managed to save Jack-Jack and Peter in midair and then turned into a parachute so they could float safely to the ground.
Then, as Syndrome recovered and got back on his jet, Bob threw his new sports car at Syndrome's jet. Syndrome dodged the car, only to have his cape caught in a jet turbine.
Bob, Dash, Violet, and Aunt May watched the jet explode, and the burning, hurling wreckage was about to fall toward them and the Parr house. Helen, Jack-Jack, and Peter noticed it right away. Peter held onto his aunt and closed his eyes as a massive explosion erupted, destroying the Parr residence.
But as Peter and Aunt May slowly opened their eyes, the two looked around to see that they were still alive and okay. They were inside a force field, along with the Incredibles.
Peter smiled warmly at the one person who could've pulled it off. "Thanks, Vi."
Violet smiled warmly back at Peter as she closed the force field.
Dash and the Parrs looked at their destroyed house and all the smoldering wreckage. "Does this mean we have to move again?"
"You could always stay with us," Aunt May suddenly insisted, gesturing to herself, Peter, and their home.
Helen was surprised as she turned to Aunt May. "R-Really!? It's not like you have extra rooms to spare…and your nephew got along so well with the kids!"
"Helen, there's plenty to spare," Aunt May replied. "It's already been a long, hard day filled with mystery, turmoil, and giant robot fights, so you Parrs are welcome to stay and deserve some rest. The thing is, Peter and I would love having you to stay, and we'll figure things out."
Helen and Bob paused for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
"Yeah…okay," Helen spoke up with a smile. "…We'd love to stay. For as long as we'll have each other."
"Plus, the kids and Peter can bunk together," Aunt May added. "The more, the merrier, right?"
"Yeeaaah!" Dash cheered in excitement while Jack-Jack giggled.
"I guess you and your family are moving in and living with us, huh?" Peter said to Violet.
"Yeah, it even helps out the ratio," Violet nodded as she took Peter in her arms. "By the way, I would like to say that I've always found you extremely attractive!"
Violet leaned over and planted a big kiss on Peter's lips. Smiling dreamily, Peter didn't hold back as he hugged Violet with all his heart.
Just then, a little neighborhood boy riding on a tricycle saw the whole thing in amazement. "Ooohh, man. That was totally wicked!"
And so it happened that Spider-Man and the Incredibles returned to their everyday lives – this time, things were entirely different for them from then on.
