Sonic was running out of Eggman's base.
She and Shadow hadn't spoken since the Mr. Tinker problem and he had been staying at Rouge's.
"Way too slow! C'mon! Step it up!" Sonic said while running and fighting more robots to find herself almost missing the opening.
Then she got up and sighed in relief but saw a big robot.
"Ooh! You're a big one!" she said and got ready to find it floating and crash onto the ground.
"Mind if I cut in?" Silver asked.
"Silver! I had that man!"
"S-sorry. I didn't mean to step on your toes."
"It's cool. I'm glad you're here. Thanks for holding the door for me back there."
"What door? I came in through the other way."
"f you didn't help me, who did?"
Suddenly there was a shot hitting a robot from behind them.
"Since when could you do that?" Sonic asked.
"I didn't! It must be the Legendary Guardian Angel!" Silver said.
"The Legendary what now?" she said confused.
"How do you not know about the Guardian Angel?!"
"I spent six months in a small cell in space. I missed a few things."
"Oh right. You missed most of it war." he said. "Multiple units in the Resistance reported a mysterious person who would turn the tide of battle, but never joined the army." he said. "Whoever it was saved my life more than once! They must be here to help us again!" he said and was almost hit by another shot.
"So is that why you came back from the future? Looking for an autograph?" she asked amused.
"Er... no. I came back because defeating Eggman didn't save the future."
"Couldn't even play along. Had to bring the mood down." she said and sighed. "Okay, what happened this time?" she asked stretching her leg.
"When I left, my time had been conquered by the Eggman Empire. Everyone lived in fear, choking on polluted air. When I went back, tHE Eggman Empire was gone-but so was everyone else." he said. "There was nothing left. No people, no animals, no machinery. Only water and sparse, metallic plant life."
"Well, that's... eerie."
"I know, right? So I came right back to find out what happened." he said. "Amy said you were looking for clues in Eggman's Bases and I came to help." he said and they went past a destroyed robot.
"So did your Guardian Angel, apparently." she said and knelt down. "Whoever it is, they aren't using a standard wispon."
"How can you tell?"
"They're built for clearing out crowds of robots using the wisps' power. This is way more precise."
Suddenly they heard something and looked up to see someone shooting at the door.
"That must be her!" Silver said. "Hey Guardian Angel!" he said and they looked at them and jumped. "No! Wait!" he said and they were gone. "I, I don't understand. We're all on the same side." he said. "I'm a big fan."
"Silver," Sonic said. "...You said she never joined the Resistance." she said. "That she never interacted with anyone- right?"
"Well, yeah. So?"
"So she obviously prefers to work solo- for whatever reason. Not everyone likes being part of the crowd."
"I see. I guess I've been so lonely for so long, I never considered wanting to be alone."
"Yo! Sorry for coming on so strong. I'm Sonic, and my over-eager friend here is Silver. We appreciate your help. We'd like to help you too." she said and wasps came and gathered around her. "Whoa! Haha! Hey, guys! I thought I saw some wisp powers going off!" she said and they hugged her. "I saved their planet from Eggman a while back-long story. I guess that left an impression." she said with one in each hand and the rest on her shoulders.
"Whisper." the wolf whispered and took her mask off.
"Cool."
"Okay. But why?" Silver whispered.
"No, genius." Sonic said. "Whisper is her name."
"Oh, right."
"Care to get the door for us, Flatware?" she asked bowing.
"I said I get it! Don't have to rub it in."
"Everybody get ready!" she said and he got his powers ready and got it to open to find a giant robot.
Then they started fighting it and in doing so Silver closed the door.
"Whoops!" Silver said but continued to fight.
"Silver! We need to finish off the little ones so we can focus on the big guy!" Sonic said.
"Right! Come at me!" he said and got his powers ready.
So she turned into a Sonic Spin and he caught her, and used his powers to throw her around.
Soon they were done and Silver was with Whisper.
"It's okay if you like to work alone…" Silver said. "But it looks to me like you've put together quite a team." he said while wisps went around Whisper. "And I'd be proud to be a part of it."
"Maybe." Whisper whispered and she aimed another shot.
"Whoa- whoa- whoa!" Sonic said. "You can tear this place apart when we're done!" she said. "First, we need vital intel off the computer!"
"Okay."
"What did Eggman do to you?" Sonic asked while Silver started typing.
"Let's see it's almost here... Looks like there was a major update across the Eggnet." Silver said. "It's almost like Neo Meta Sonic isn't hiding what he's doing any-" he started. "OH CRAP!"
"We need to call Knuckles- now!"
At Resistance HQ Knuckles was holding his head.
"Knuckles! What happened?!" Amy asked.
"It's... the Master Emerald... Something's wrong..." Knuckles said and sat down.
"But it's hidden on Angel Island. That's the whole reason you've been helping us for so long."
"I know. But as it's Guardian, I've got a special connection to it. It's calling out to me..." he said still holding his head.
Then they heard the computer go off.
"Amy! Knux! Are you there?" Sonic asked and they looked at the screen. "Silver found what Neo's up to! You're gonna need to call in everyone!"
Meanwhile Neo Metal was at Angel Island.
"The Master Emerald. "The Controller."" Neo Metal said. "One of the most powerful hems in the world, with the ability to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds." he said. "So come to me, Sonic. As yourself, or as Super Sonic." he said. "Either way..." he said. "...You Will be powerless to stop me."
Later.
""I am Neo Metal Sonic. I am Dr. Eggman's greatest creation. I am Sonic The Hedgehog- perfected."Neo Metal said. "I have used the Egg Fleet to conquer Angel Island." he said. "I have secured the Master Emerald- The most powerful gemstone in the world." he said. "I have baited the 'Heroes' into bringing me the last thing I need for my ascension." he said. "I have won!"
