Kara opened her eyes, stretching her arms, and yawning. Her bed stood on one side of the room, with her sister sleeping in another bed, on the opposite side of the room. Kara saw Alex sit up on her bed, also stretching.

Kara smiled, standing up, and walking to the door. Alex instantly stood up as well, approaching Kara. The sisters looked at one another. Kara remembered how at first, when she arrived to the Danvers household, she didn't like her adoptive sister, but now Alex was a big part of her life. Still, Kara enjoyed her playful morning wars.

"Go ahead, you can use the bathroom," said Kara, grinning, as Alex exited the bedroom, and began walking towards the bathroom. Kara chuckled, running into the bathroom using her super speed, entering it, and promptly shutting the door.

"Kara! I hate you," said Alex, arriving to the closed door.

"Aww, you love me," said Kara from inside the bathroom. She heard a chuckle.

"Of course I do love you, Kar, but please, can you hurry, I really need to use the bathroom," said Alex.

Ten minutes later, Kara and Alex were sitting at the kitchen table, with Eliza bringing them food. Kara liked her foster parents; Eliza was nice, she missed Jeremiah who disappeared several years ago. Alex, when Kara arrived on this planet, she wanted to have nothing to do with her new "sister." Sister, she never thought to have a sister, Kara remembered how her parents wanted her to take care of Kal, who abandoned her. Kara knew Kal was a good man, but a family man he was not. Yes, he occasionally texted Kara and asked her how she was doing, and yes, he sent several pictures of him sitting with Lois a month ago when he began dating her, and yes, Kal told Kara he cared about her, but at the end of the day, Kal was not a part of her life. Kara still remembered how Kal left her with the Danvers family; she was surprised to see him now looking older than her, damn Phantom Zone, but at least Kara expected him to take her in. And he hadn't. Kara loved her cousin Kal, but that night several years ago, Kal broke her heart; he didn't understand what El Mayara meant.

Alex. Kara looked at her adoptive sister. Her heart warmed. Alex, she had a sister now. At first she didn't like Alex, but over these years, their bond deepened. Alex was strong and smart and determined. Kara knew that Alex wasn't born on Krypton, but sometimes she imagined, just imagined how the two of them would live on Krypton, growing up together. Kara would have joined the Science Guild; Kara felt that while Alex could have joined it as well, she was probably better suited for the Military Guild. Aunt Astra, Kara missed her Aunt dearly. She missed her parents, her aunt Astra, and Kal's parents, not Non, Kara didn't like the man his aunt Astra married. Oh, how Kara wished to be back on Krypton, reunited with the five adults whom she loved. But now all of them were gone. Krypton was no more, and Kara and Kal were the only remaining Kryptonians in the world. Kal effectively abandoned Kara; she remembered how initially she felt all alone. Until Alex, until Alex Danvers developed a strong friendship with Kara.

Kara was eternally grateful for the love Alex has shown her. Yes, initially they didn't like one another; Kara might have even hated Alex at first. It didn't help that Alex blamed her for losing Jeremiah. But the two girls overcame their initial dislike and distrust of one another; Kara smiled, remembering how she taunt Alex Kryptonise a year ago. Kara remembered going camping in the forests with Alex despite Eliza's protests, looking at the stars, stars, one of which was Rao. Oh how Kara missed her family, but now Kara had Alex. Kara had Alex, and she happy.

Many people didn't like her at the school. Kara had to hide who she was, had to pretend being clumsy. Kara felt people of this planet didn't understand her feelings, didn't understand what she went through. She was the last daughter of Krypton, her family now gone, Kal had effectively abandoned her. The House of El had basically died. Kara knew she was different, people of this Earth would probably never fully understand her. She would probably never find a partner; Kara was even unsure how this concept of "love" Alex talked to her about could apply to her. Kara was not on Krypton anymore, and even if she visited Kal's fortress, she wasn't sure the matrix could ever find her a person she could marry. Kara was the last daughter of Krypton, likely never to find romantic love. But she had family; Kara lost her biological family. They were now all gone, with the exception of Kal, who abandoned Kara. But now Kara had Alex. Kara had her sister.

Alex. She should have grown up with Kara on Krypton. Her parents would have loved Alex. She would have talked science with her father and uncle, she could have gotten on adventures with her aunt Astra. Perhaps the two of them could have even saved Krypton from destruction. When Kara arrived on this strange planet, she had no one to call her family. The House of El was as good as dead and shattered. But now, despite all her losses, despite all the tragedy in her life, now Kara had a sister. Kara was a Kryptonian, and Alex a human, technically, but Alex, her sister was her family. If Kara ever met anyone who understood Kryptonian culture, Kara mentally sighing at her cousin probably not being included into that description, if Kara ever met anyone who knew of Krypton, Kara would have proudly told them that her sister Alex was a member of the esteemed House of El. Yes, Alex was not a Kryptonian, but she was her sister; Kara would gladly sacrifice her life if needed to protect Alex. Kara might not ever have a family, most people still found her strange at the school, but she had her sister Alex.

Kara remembered the story her mother told her back on Krypton. Her family hadn't had this happen to them for several generations, since Krypton had been quite isolationist for several centuries, but Alura told about love being a strong and powerful force in the universe. Love, love was a strange phenomenon. Kara never learned how it happened, but she fondly remembered her mother telling her about soul bonds. Kara felt her family truly loved each other, perhaps not Non. But they were all Kryptonians. Alex, Kara wished so much that her sister would truly join the House of El. Kara tried not to think about this too much, she didn't want to feel the pain if the strange and mysterious familiar soul bond never actually happened to her. But it didn't matter to Kara. When she first arrived on this planet, she was all alone, but now she had her sister with her. Kryptonian or not, it didn't matter to Kara. Alex was her sister, a woman she loved with all her heart. Kryptonian or not, Alex was a part of her family, a part of the House of El.

"Ready for your test, girls?" Eliza asked, putting some pancakes on the table.

"We will destroy the test, right Kara?" Alex asked.

Kara smiled. When she first arrived on Earth, she struggled with every subject but science and math, especially history. And Alex was good, but some scientific concepts were rather difficult for Alex to wrap her head around. And now, now the two sisters were among the best students at school. Kara fondly remembered sharing with Alex things she knew about Kryptonian culture, about Kryptonian science. Alex helped Kara learn about history, Kara now even knew what Pyramids were! Kara loved sharing knowledge with Alex. Alex, even them studying together, and sharing information, helping each other excel was something that they did together. They became stronger together. They both excelled in all academic subjects. Alex Danvers might have been a human, but El Mayara, Alex was her sister and a member of the House of El, and no one could tell Kara otherwise. Kara guessed that with the two sisters sharing all this knowledge, her sister eclipsed all her peers; Alex definitely had at least a level three level of intellect. Alex made Kara proud; her sister was among the smartest people on this planet. If only Alex could have seen Krypton, even in a dream.

"Yes, we will. We are the Danvers sisters, afterall. Knowledge is something we excel," said Kara. She saw Alex smile; it warmed her heart that Alex cared about her.

"I remember how that jerk Jake screamed after getting twenty percent on that one test when both of us got above a hundred percent, with extra credit," said Alex.

Kara liked when Alex joked about the two of them effortlessly getting top grades, while the jerks who bothered her often failed exams. If only she could always show excelling in science, but Eliza forbid Kara from constantly over performing at school; Eliza taught Kara that she had to conform, to not confuse people with her brilliance. Sure some tests her getting extra credit were nice, but Kara wished she wouldn't hide her scientific understanding. Back on Krypton, she was a prodigy, Kara understood science, and now she couldn't show her intelligence, she had to look normal.

Alex. Kara remembered her sister sitting in her bed, crying, after Alex's best friend Vicky decided to move out of Midvale. Alex was confused why Vicky left; they were good friends. Kara comforted her sister. Alex would have new friends. And Kara would make her sister happy. Alex deserved to be happy. She was her sister.

The day went well. Kara easily answered all questions on her history exam about the fall of Roman Empire; she purposefully marked two questions wrong, mentally sighing. She wished she wouldn't have to hide her intelligence. At least she could be true with Alex; Alex might have been a human, but Kara shared everything she knew about Krypton with her sister. When they were alone, sitting either in their bedroom, or going to the woods to look at stars, or just visiting pizzeria, yes, Kara really liked various pizzerias. Kara shared everything she knew about her culture, except for the concept of soul bonds; she didn't want to disappoint her sister in case they never developed one such sibling bond. But it didn't matter to Kara, Alex was her sister, to Kara, Alex was a part of the House of El, and that's all that mattered to Kara. And when they were alone, Kara sometimes forgot she was on this strange planet Earth. She sometimes felt being on Krypton, discussing things about Krypton culture and science, and enjoying her life with her sister. Kara might have lost everyone else, but she knew that the two Danvers sisters kept the House of El strong.

Kara and Alex were sitting at the table; most people avoided them. While Kara felt like an outcast, many people wanted to hang out with her sister. But Alex never even entertained spending time with people who felt bad about Kara. Alex should have, Kara wouldn't blame her sister for leaving her eating alone, although sometimes Kara and Alex had lunch with their friend Kenny; Alex never left Kara. Kara wouldn't ever blame Alex if she did, and enjoyed her life, spending time with popular kids at their school, but she was eternally grateful for Alex never leaving her. Alex might not have been a Kryptonian, they might not have shared blood, but Alex Danvers was her sister. Kara's lost her biological family, but she was not alone.

Kara lifted a pizza slice of her plate. "I sometimes wonder just how much you can eat, you always stay in shape despite eating thousands of calories," said Alex, chuckling, also taking a slice of pizza. While Alex was eating her first slice, Kara promptly finished her tenth.

"Kryptonian physiology, I like to eat," said Kara, looking at the large plate in front of them, and promptly grabbing another slice of pizza.

"I would be careful if I were you. With how much food you like to eat, I swear, when you find a person you like, they will only eat salads, or something," said Alex.

Kara hated all these greens, especially kale; those greens looked like poison. But if Alex was correct, if someone actually loved her romantically, salads or not, even kale or not, if they truly loved Kara, she wouldn't mind them eating even kale. Kara just knew that people found her strange; she hoped she would find someone she liked romantically, even if it was unlikely, but Kara was happy. No matter what happened, no matter what future had for her, Kara was happy. She had her sister. The two of them would always support one another, standing stronger together, and overcoming any obstacles life throws at the two of them.

After school was over, Kara and Alex went to the park. Kara wanted to be there for her sister; she recently lost her best friend, and was moodier than usual. So Kara decided to talk Alex to see one spot in the park where people liked to walk their dogs. Kara personally liked dogs and cats. Alex would never admit it to Kara, but Kara saw how Alex awed at seeing dogs, especially puppies.

As they were walking, Kara heard a scream, dropping on the ground. "Kar, you okay?" Alex asked, seeing Kara sitting on the grass.

"I … I am okay, just … I think something bad has happened. I heard a gunshot," said Kara. Alex gave Kara her hand; Kara took her sister's hand, and stood up. "I just … sometimes I think that perhaps I should be doing something. Kal might have abandoned me, but he is a super hero, protecting people. Perhaps I should protect others, too."

"You don't have to look up at Clark; I can't believe he just abandoned you, Kara. I know he does good, but he is a terrible cousin, although with Clark not visiting, I get to keep you all for myself," said Alex, laughing. Kara's heart radiated with happiness every time Alex laughed. She really liked her sister being happy.

"I know. I have all these powers, but … perhaps one day," said Kara.

"Perhaps one day," said Alex, nodding. "Just know, no matter what you decide to do in future, no matter who you decide to help, I will work with you. Somehow. If you ever become a superhero like Clark, you would save people. And I will find a way to help you. Kara, you are my sister. I love you."

Kara smiled. "El Mayara," said Kara.

"El Mayara," said Alex.

"I am curious about what happened. What do you say, should two daughters of the House of El find out what just happened somewhere in this town?" Kara asked.

"Of course," said Alex. She didn't protest Kara calling Alex a part of the House of El! Alex might not have been a Kryptonian, or born in the House of El; Alex was her sister, and that's all what mattered.

Kara and Alex walked away from the park, checking what happened. Initially people seemed confused. Their search seemingly fruitless, the Danvers sisters approached Kenny's house; Kara wanted to ask him to borrow his telescope he made recently. While Kara could make one herself, she was curious to see what kind of telescopes humans could create.

When the sisters approached the house, they saw a police car, tape, and crying parents. Oh no, what happened? Kara and Alex ran to Kenny's house, spotting the Sheriff. He seemed nice, this Sheriff on several occasions had scared some of her bullies. It was nice for Kara to know some authority figure who was helpful and understanding.

"Kara, Alex," said the Sheriff, turning to them. "It isn't safe here. Please stay back."

"What happened? Where is Kenny? I –"

"Kara, your friend … he is gone. I found his body, and brought it to his family. I am so sorry, but your friend is no longer with us," said Sheriff.

"No. Poor Kenny," said Kara. Kenny might not have been a close friend of hers, but he was one of the few people who didn't treat her poorly. He was a good boy.

"I will look into this. I will bring the person responsible to justice," said the Sheriff.

"Thank you," said Alex. She then looked at Kara. "Let's go."

Kara and Alex walked away. "Alex, I … if I were a superhero, I could have possibly saved him," said Kara. The stopped.

"Kara," said Alex.

"I feel so useless," said Kara.

"Kara," said Alex, repeating herself. "Even Superman cannot save everyone. No one can. Please don't blame yourself for not protecting Kenny from this fate. You are right, however. We might not have been able to protect him, but we could look into it. Kenny was a friend; we will find his killer, together."

"El Mayara," said Kara, smiling at her sister.

"El Mayara, Kara," said Alex.

Kara put her sister in a bear hug. Kara didn't know what her future has in store for her. Kara didn't know if she would become a superhero like Kal, or if she ever would start a family. But Kara knew that no matter what her future held, Kara had her sister. Kara and Alex, stronger together, they could overcome anything.

"No one could stop the Danvers sisters," said Alex, grinning.

"Let's start at school, and check if some jerks could be responsible," said Kara.

"Sounds good. We will solve this mystery. Together," said Alex. The two sisters walked away; Kara saw the sky darken. Kara was a Kryptonian, Alex was a human, and together the two of them would solve any mystery, and protect anyone. The two of them were a team. Kara and Alex were sisters.
