Kara and Alex sat at the table; several portions of potstickers sat on the table. Kara smiled, grabbing a large cheese pizza slice. Kara smiled, when Alex took another piece. Sisters, they were Kryptonian sisters of the House of El. Kara didn't have friends, Kara was living a normal life; neither bother her. Kara had a sister, a sister she loved dearly. Kara saw Eliza wave at them, before walking to her office. Kara was happy.
Lena had just defeated yet another of her chess tutors. Lillian claimed they were some kind of chess masters, but all of them were so bad. The only real challenge Lena ever experienced was when she played with either Lex or Lillian. Her adoptive family, they gave her home. Lena knew she should have been strong; she lost her biological mother when she was four. Lillian always seemed … cold, but Lex. Her brother went to movies with her, her played chess with her, he taught her math. Lex, Lena remembered when their family was happy. And while Lillian never had been exactly warm with affections towards her, Lex … Lex was a good brother. A tear escaped Lena's eye. Lex was a good brother before; until this Superman appeared.
Lena wanted to blame the appearance of this Superman for causing her brother to become more and more unhinged. Lena deep in her heart knew she couldn't blame this hero for pushing her brother on a dark path. Lex had been nice and affectionate towards her before; Lena hoped that Lex would snap out of it someday. Lena hoped she would her brother back. If only he abandoned his pursuit to destroy this Superman. No, Lex was confused. He was a good man; he was her brother. He was a genius, he inspired her in so many ways. Lena knew that Lex would end this madness one day, she desperately wanted to have her brother back. She was a Luthor, and Luthors were always happy. They always won. And Lena was a Luthor. She would win; her brother would become her friend once again.
Lena admired the superhero who protected Metropolis. He seemed like a nice person; while he looked strong and looked nice, Lena secretly wished he had a sister or cousin, a female relative whom she could possibly meet one day. Who was she kidding? Even if her brother returned to her, and stopped trying to kill Superman, even if there were other Kryptonians, Lena could never be friends with any of them. She was a Luthor; Luthors didn't make friends with Superman and his friends. Lena just wanted to have friends. Lena wanted someone to love her for who she was. All her supposed school friends saw her as Miss Luthor; Lena hoped she would find a nice girl or a guy who saw her as Lena, only Lena. She was a Luthor; Lena must accept that Luthors didn't have friends, only minions and rivals. But she still hoped, Lena hoped that one day she would have many friends, and someone who truly loved her for her being Lena, just Lena.
Lex was busy, as usual. Lena went to her bedroom, and opened the window, retrieving a highly advanced telescope she herself created. Lena assembled it and began looking at the night sky. She smiled; while looking at the moon, she wished to someday visit the natural satellite of her planet. Perhaps someday, she could travel into the cosmic unknown, exploring the galaxy, and visiting other planets. Lena looked at the moon again. Perhaps one day she would have a lovely daughter whom she could name after her planet's satellite; afterall, it was an astronomical name, which started with an "L," keeping with her family's naming conventions.
Maggie stood in her new apartment; her suitcase still was mostly full of her cloths and various items she could claim as her own. Home, this apartment might have been small, but it was hers. Five years ago, Maggie lost her parents; how could they abandon her? But Maggie just wanted to find people who loved her. Why couldn't her father understand that Maggie was a hardworking and kind woman, who just happened to like girls and not boys?
Maggie was alone. Perhaps being a police officer came with a burden. She laughed at herself, go Maggie, protecting others while unable to protect yourself. She stood in her apartment, her own apartment. It was small, but no one could ever kick her out, not anymore. Dad, her father broke her heart; Maggie wished that one day he would be happy for her, happy for his daughter Maggie liking women. She wished that one day Oscar Rodas would accept Maggie for she was. Perhaps one day, but for now, Maggie was now finally on her own. Her aunt was nice, but Maggie didn't want to burden her last remaining relative. And now she had this apartment; it was hers. Perhaps her father would one day accept her for who she was. Perhaps she would find real love, and not just short-term relationships.
For now, Maggie had to be strong. She was a cop, perhaps she would become a Detective someday. She might not have been able to protect herself, but now she had power to protect others. She would become a great cop. She would do everything in her power to protect the rights of those who couldn't protect themselves.
J'onn stood in the middle of the DEO in his human Hank Henshaw disguise. He hated hiding behind an evil man's appearance, but he had a lot of work ahead of him. Ever since he became the Director of the DEO, he had been making slow progress in turning the agency around; under his leadership, all captured aliens were now treated much better than ever before.
J'onn remembered his recent visit to the Danvers household. The two girls, Kara and Alex, they were such troublemakers. Why couldn't Kara Zor El hide her powers? He was sure she could find a way to help people without resorting to her own Kryptonian powers. They were teenagers, perhaps J'onn didn't need to judge them too harshly. Still, the Danvers sisters were troublemakers. Trying to stop a corrupt drug dealing Sheriff, what in the world the two of them were thinking? He was glad that neither of them was hurt, although he would be surprised if Kara got hurt. Alex on the other hand, Kara had to stay out of trouble, since if Kara went, Alex went. He hoped this investigation into their friend's murder was a fluke, he hoped the two troublemakers wouldn't try to save anyone else. At least he had only one teenage Kryptonian to deal with.
Kara Danvers was a strong girl, but J'onn was worried. Lex Luthor in Metropolis was growing more and more unhinged every day. And he knew how to hurt Clark. J'onn just hoped that Kara would never have to cross paths with the Luthor household. Lex was trouble; J'onn hoped that Kara would never become a superhero and would never meet Lex in person. Kara was strong, but she was naïve. Her sister was more reasonable. From what he knew about Alex, despite being a human, she always seemed to protect her Kryptonian sister. Hmm, maybe he should one day recruit Alex Danvers to work for him. She could further develop her skills to be able to better protect her sister from any anti alien sentiment Kara might face, be it Lex, Cadmus, or anyone else who hated aliens.
Clark felt conflicted. A month ago, he finally began dating Lois; she was a force to be reckoned with. Lois was a human, and yet Clark sometimes felt she had a lot more power than he had during several tense meetings at the Daily Planet. Lois was a great reporter; she agreed to date him! Clark had to meet with Jimmy sometime this week; he liked to gossip about his superhero life with his friend. He was glad that Jimmy kept telling him to ask Lois out; now Clark and Lois were together. Perhaps Jimmy could one day meet his cousin Kara; they would make a wonderful couple.
Kara. It saddened Clark that he had to leave his only remaining blood family from Krypton, but he had no choice. He was living alone in Metropolis; especially when he met Kara for the first time, no, he made the right choice. At the time, he couldn't have raised his cousin; he just couldn't look after her. Now he could, but from the infrequent texts Kara sent to him, she really loved spending time with her adoptive sister Alex Danvers. Alex was a good kid; Clark was glad she had a girl Kara's age to talk to.
Despite being happy with his personal life, Clark noticed that his archnemesis had been growing madder. Lex used to be his friend, and now it seemed that all Lex wanted to do was to kill him. Clark didn't condone Lex's actions, but he could at least somewhat understand Lex's hatred towards him. But all other aliens? Lex has been growing more and more xenophobic with each passing day. Lex Luthor, all Luthors were bad news. Clark did hear about his younger sister Lena; she seemed nice, but she was a Luthor. Clark wished that this young girl Lena Luthor would never meet his cousin Kara; Clark couldn't trust anyone with last name Luthor; Lex has been nice before too, and now he was mad. Clark hoped that Kara would never make the same mistake he had. Clark saw a news report where some building exploded; what was Lex up to this time? Clark quickly changed into his suit and flew to protect the citizens of his beloved Metropolis.
Lucy was sitting with her father at the restaurant. She wished her sister was there, but her relationship with Clark angered her father. Her sister's admiration of Superman also angered her father.
"Can you believe it, Lucy? Lois forgot about the values I taught both of you. She is friends with two pathetic men! Clark Kent is a loser; how could my girl accept a date from him? And Clark might be a loser, but he is a human, like us. This Superman, how could Lois befriend an alien?" General Lane asked.
"Dad, Superman helps people," said Lucy. There was a time she had a crush on the hero, how silly she was when she first heard of him. But while her crush was long gone, Lucy admired him. Superman had amazing powers; he was the last survivor of planet Krypton, he had special powers, and he protected people. If only her father could see it. Her father was a good man, he just didn't understand that Superman. But she did. Superman was a good man; Lucy wished she could have had his powers. She doubted she could be as selfless as the man of tomorrow was.
Her father didn't understand all the good work Superman had done. Lucy wanted to know more. Hmm, perhaps she could have asked Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen on a date and learn more about the superhero.
James sat with his sister, who would soon be moving out of the city. He loved Kelly, she was strong; she knew how to fight. Kelly was thought as nails. He was just a photographer; James liked his work, but he admired how tough his sister was.
"Jimmy, I will miss you," said Kelly, hugging James.
"I will see you soon, sis," said James.
"It will still be months. When I return, I think I will go back to school; maybe I could become a nurse, or a therapist?" Kelly asked herself.
"You always liked helping people," said James.
"Says my brother who liked guarding and protecting me from bullies when were young," said Kelly.
"How tables have turned," said James, laughing. "Now you are going who knows where, protecting and guardian other people."
"True. I think it's a wonderful opportunity; I feel I will learn much during this deployment. But I think … maybe when I return, I will continue, as you said, protecting and guarding others, but in another way? I could help people deal with trauma; there are so many people who could use some therapy," said Kelly.
"Whatever you decide to do, Kelly, I will always support you," said James. He loved his sister; he would miss Kelly.
Winn just finished yet another computer science homework. Another A! His dad would be so proud of himself. Winn closed his computer; he was so glad his father approved of his tech passions. His dad even played World of Warcraft with him! Winn had great grades; he wanted to be just like his dad, knowing much about science.
Winn stood up from his table, walking towards his door, opening it. He wondered what kind of toy his father had designed him; he liked buying various action figures, but his favorite toys were always his father personally crafted. His father was a nice man; his toys brought joy to many children. His dad made Winn happy. While his father was frequently working, even in the evenings, he always seemed to find time for him. Maybe they could play some Nintendo game. Winn admired his father; one day, he wanted to be just like him, being pro in science and tech, and creating toys, making many people happy.
Sam sat on her bed in her small apartment. Abandoned. The man she slept with, the man she felt happy to be with, that man abandoned her. He didn't call, he didn't text, he completely forgot about Sam. Ruby, Sam had a wonderful baby girl. Her one-year-old was her life. She felt weak, but she would remain strong; she had to. Sam had to be strong for Ruby, her precious daughter, who was currently peacefully sleeping in her small bed.
Sam had many friends before; when they learned about her pregnancy, one by one, they all abandoned her. Her adoptive mother kicked her out. Everyone she knew before; they all shattered her heart. She had many friends, and suddenly she had no one. Her boyfriend abandoned her, her friends abandoned her, her mother abandoned her, Sam felt all alone. But she had Ruby, she would remain strong for her daughter. One day, she would get into a good college, she would get good education, and earn enough money to spoil her little Ruby.
She had her daughter. Sam lost all her friends; they shamed her for getting pregnant. She was so naïve, she thought people liked her. And she had nobody besides her daughter. If only she had a sister she could talk to, if only Sam had could have someone her age to talk to. Just one person, she wished she had just one person she could talk to. She might never find love again, afterall, who would want to be with a teenage mother? But Sam hoped that one day she would have friends, only for those friends to care for her, and accept her having a daughter.
Sam felt weak. She only had hope, but her current material situation wished to be better. She wished she was strong. She had seen Superman save so many people; if only Sam had powers like him. If only she had powers to be strong for her daughter. No, she would be strong, powers or not, she would remain strong. She and Ruby would escape this life; one day they would both live comfortably, and both have many friends.
Cat sat at her desk in her apartment. She liked her work, she was a great reporter, take that Harpy. What did Kent even see in that Harpy? But despite having such a terrible coworker, Cat liked her work. She helped so many people; she exposed so much corruption, gave people hope, and informed them about many important aspects of life. Cat liked her work, she greatly respected Perry White, but sometimes, Cat felt that she wanted to get away from this city. She felt about creating something of her own.
Cat stood up from her desk, approached her seven-month-old son who just woke up from his nap, and held her precious Carter in her hands. Carter's father left the two of them, but Cat didn't need anyone in her life. She had her son. She was a good reporter.
"I am a strong woman; I don't need anyone to tell me what to do. I am strong, I am Cat Grant," said Cat, looking at desk. Carter wiggled, laughing. How she loved her son. Perhaps she could go on a sabbatical; the two of them would keep each other company. Company. She would have been a good boss. Cat was smart, she could create her own company, her own media empire that would rival the Daily Planet. She was Cat Grant. Huh. Cat. Company. CatCo. It had a good ring to it.
Cat looked at her son, who giggled. She loved her son; she would show to him that she was a good mother. She was Cat Grant, she always got what she wanted. And now she wanted her own media empire. One day. Cat smiled; she would prove to everyone that she was a powerful woman. One day, she would be the Queen of all media.
Astra stood by the table inside their Kryptonian vessel. Fort Rozz; once it was her prison, but now she made it into her home. Astra smiled, looking at her six-month year-old daughter, who happily snored in her arms.
"I see our daughter is having pleasant dreams," said Non, approaching Astra. The three of them were family. Yes, her nephew Kal El was doing his silly heroics stuff, he was like a stranger to her. If only Kara was here; Astra missed her niece.
"I lost my niece, my poor Little One. My own sister betrayed my trust, my own sister sentenced all of us for wanting to protect our planet, our home. We could have saved Krypton," said Astra. She missed her planet.
"At least traitorous snake Alura is dead with all others who were so full of hubris," said Non.
"Including Kara," said Astra; a tear escaping her eye. "If only Kara was alive; I could have taught her everything I knew. Naming our daughter after the Little One was the second happiest moment in my life on this backwater planet. My little Karen."
"Our daughter brings so much joy to me," said Non. "We will make this planet a perfect place for our family to live. We are still new here. We will examine this planet and save it from Krypton's fate."
"Yes, yes, we will. It still feels so strange having all these powers; one day we will learn everything we need about this planet and these humans and create our perfect world. I just wish I could have shared my dream with my poor Little One," said Astra. But Kara was gone; like all other Kryptonians, excluding Fort Rozz prisoners and this Kal El, all other Kryptonians were dead. Gone. Krypton was no more. Astra would forever remember her niece.
Jess sat in the library; she was typing another essay. Jess liked working, she never envisioned being a leader, instead she wanted to find an inspirational woman she could work for; she wanted to help some overworked woman with her work. One day, she would find someone she could dedicate hours working for. She would make a great assistant one day. Jess knew she had to be very knowledgeable. She tried learning about numerous subject areas, even if she didn't have enough detailed knowledge in some areas, she wanted to know about all various subjects. She could always delegate something extremely specific to someone else, but she just wanted to be all around useful; Jess did like computer science and numbers. Perhaps one day she could work for some cutting-edge tech company, helping its CEO achieve greatness. Perhaps one day she could even call her future boss her friend.
Lillian stood in her office, looking at various detailed science experiments. She did good work; it would have been easier if her former colleague Henshaw collaborated with her. Lillian didn't like Henshaw becoming softer. Maybe he was just getting older. No matter, if the DEO was unwilling to work with Cadmus anymore, Lillian would just do it all herself. She was the Director of Cadmus, afterall. Perhaps one day, she could work openly with her son, sending all these … aliens away from this planet. This was her planet; aliens shouldn't have lived with her.
Lillian saw her colleague Jeremiah working on some project nearby. "Any success, Jeremiah?" Lillian asked.
"Not quite, but this device should be operational soon," said Jeremiah.
"Good," said Lillian. Jeremiah was a useful and capable employee. "You know, I always found it amusing how both of us have an older child whose name can be shortened to "Lex." We both have an adopted daughter who is nowhere near as capable as our older children."
"Lillian, I agree with your work, but I … I love both of my girls. I love Alex, and I love Kara," said Jeremiah.
"Perhaps. But both of us know that neither Lena nor Kara is our own blood. They are not the same as our firstborns," said Lillian. "It's okay, Jeremiah. One day you will see that I am right. Once we succeed, once we can operate in the open, perhaps we could be a family. I always wanted to have a brother with whom I could work together on scientific projects, protecting our planet from the invaders. And if we ever became family, my dear Jeremiah, both of us would have our "Lex" be friends with their other cousin also named "Lex." Just imagine, Luthors and Danvers working together, getting rid of invaders."
Lillian couldn't quite see why Jeremiah seemed uncomfortable with her ideas. No matter, the fool would one day see reason. And even if Jeremiah wouldn't, perhaps Lex Luthor and Alex Danvers could become best friends, and continue their legacy of a Luthor working together with a Danvers, fighting aliens, including Kryptonians. Lillian smiled. A Luthor and Danvers might not have been related, but she would see one day when a Luthor and a Danvers would see each other as siblings.
Queen Rhea stood on bridge of her spaceship. Damn those Kryptonians. Even in their own demise, they poisoned her planet. Daxam was in ruins; while the planet was technically still there, it was poisoned with the rocks that rained from the sky. But at least Krypton was no more. She finally succeeded, even if she hadn't done anything. The universe agreed with her, Krypton was a planet full of idiots who couldn't even save themselves. Good riddance. Now Rhea just needed to find her stupid son; she would need to teach her son proper manners once she found him. He took his hedonistic duties well; but he still had much to learn how to be a ruthless leader of their people, how to subjugate and annihilate their enemies. She would find her lost son; Rhea would stop at nothing, searching for him. One day, she would see her son again.
Alura stood up from her chair; she was proud of leading the remaining Kryptonians in their city, it seemed to her sometimes that it all was just … pointless. Yes, Argo City was thriving, yes, they managed to save a piece of Krypton from its destruction, but it came at a steep cost. She lost her daughter, she lost her husband, she lost her sister, she lost her husband's family. Kara, yes, Alura lost everyone else dear to her, but she hoped, she couldn't give up hope that her Kara was somewhere out there with Kal, protecting him, teaching and raising him on the planet they sent Kara and Kal to. She would never again see her dear daughter, and she would never have proof of Kara's survival and happy life, but she felt deep in her heart that Kara was safe. And that's all that mattered to her.
"You are a great leader of our people," said her friend Selena.
"Thank you, Selena. I lost so much," said Alura. "I just hope that Kara is safe, somewhere out there, far, far away from us."
"I lost my daughter too," said Selena. "I know they never met, but I wish our girls could have been friends."
"Selena, I have no doubt our daughters would have been friends. You and I are best friends; you were there for me when my sister betrayed me. I have no doubt that if our girls ever met, they would have been best friends, just like the two of us," said Alura.
"Don't despair, Alura. Kara might be gone, but your husband … he is alive," said Selena.
"Yes. Lost to the Phantom Zone, all alone, outside of a protective barrier of some structure like Fort Rozz," said Alura. "Rao, I wish every day to see my dear Zor El and my little daughter Kara."
"Don't despair, Alura. We will find them one day. And we will succeed in returning Krypton to its former glory," said Selena. She was Alura's only friend; she valued Selena's friendship. As much as Alura wanted to see her family again, she had duties. She had to lead and protect the Argo City. Alura lifted her head, looking in the sky.
Nyxly sat in her small pocket dimension on an empty rock. One day she would get out of this place; her own father imprisoned her in this bubble in the Phantom Zone. She would show him that he was wrong to treat her like this. She would have justice; she would find a way to escape this portion of the Phantom Zone. Nyxly was glad that her small pocket dimension part of the Phantom Zone lacked despair and these strange "phantoms," but still was a prisoner in a place where time never moved. She would escape her fate one day; she would get her revenge.
Elizabeth Walsh stood in her small house, looking out of the window at the river running through the forest. It's been ten years since she ended up in this strange land full of strange magic. Elizabeth was content, perhaps it was her fate, her penance for ending that man's life. It was an accident, she was only protecting her friend's life, but her powers were out of control. She didn't regret helping her friend, Elizabeth was just worried about the fate of her little Lena. Lionel had to have learned about Lena being all alone. He had to have taken Lena to live with Luthors.
Elizabeth took a deep breath; she knew that Lena was safe; she felt her daughter's extreme emotions. Lena was safe, bless her heart, but she wasn't happy. Elizabeth felt that Lena never received any physical punishment, but Lena wasn't happy. How she missed her little girl, how she wished to be there for her Lena, to provide her love and comfort. Elizabeth knew that her daughter was strong. She would endure all this torment. Elizabeth hoped that one day Lena would find friends, and find someone who cherished her for being Lena, her little witch. Elizabeth smiled; she knew she would never see Lena again, but she would know when her dear daughter would experience joy and happiness. And she couldn't wait.
