Hello! This is a fic I have been working on for over a year at this point! TD:AOTI went through many iterations, and while this is a draft I'm not entirely happy with, I know that I'm so much of a perfectionist in my writing that I'll never be fully content with it, so I'm going to go ahead and post this first chapter (a pretty rough draft) as is! Hopefully I can take some constructive criticism, since this is very much a pilot.
Without further ado, here is the cast list before we jump into things!
Killer Moles
Ainsley (The Feisty Firecracker)
Andy (The Nervous Nerd)
Amanda (The Sporty Chick)
Brandon (The Good Ol' Boy)
Collin (The Con Man)
Hillary (The Cheerleader)
Kirby (The Quirky Oddball)
Nolan (The Captain America)
Screaming Pelicans
Evans (The Perfectionist)
George (The Mafioso)
Kim (The Ingénue)
Mark (The Mentalist)
Nick (The Snarker)
Nile (The Amazing Ace)
Summer (The Femme Fatale)
Wu (The Iron Woman)
A beautiful ocean. Overhead, birds are chirping. In the distance, a small forest full of wildlife exists in harmony. But that's not why we're here, is it?
"Yo!" A middle-aged man- Chris McLean- the scourge of reality television, and former felon, leaps into our faces. "I'm Chris McLean, and last time on Total Drama…"
We fade out into a flashback. "...doesn't matter!" We cut back to Chris, who is grinning. Fake-out. "We've brought a whole new selection of teenage stereotypes with us into our new filming location- American Samoa!"
A cheesy shot of Samoa appears, which Chris jumps into. "A tropical paradise, heaven on Earth, and also a place that conveniently fits into a tax bracket that indulges my luxurious lifestyle!"
"Our new contestants range from diabolical, to arguably bizarre!" We're back on Chris. In the distance, the sound of two motorboats are approaching. He gestures towards the noise. "Here they come now!"
We look at one group of eight players. They're abnormally well-dressed and professional. We close in on one, who is wearing a tan blazer and a matching tan trilby hat, which he is holding over his eyes to prevent the ocean from splashing him.
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"I was inspired by Bowie on the last cast more than anyone else," George says, crossing his arms, and admiring the confessional can. Underneath him, a small chyron labels his name and his team: 'Screaming Pelicans'. "But unlike him, I was raised by two business moguls. I owned 50% of all of the Tim Hortons in northern Ontario by the time I was 13. So make no mistake. This is a business trip, and I will collect that measly million dollars."
We close in on a Korean girl. She's slightly shorter than George, and wears an outfit of annoyingly bright pinks and blues. Her black hair is tied into two tight braids that fall down either shoulder. She waves at the camera.
Confessional- Summer (Screaming Pelicans)
"Hello, my beautiful fans!" Summer smiles. The chyron appears again. "After my music went viral in Korea, my manager suggested I do this show! Apparently, it's the-" she trails off. "'Hottest reality TV show'." The look on her face is one of confusion and contempt. "But, I'm here to dominate and win!"
We close in on a dark-skinned boy, muscular and solemn. While the rest of the Screaming Pelicans are eyeing each other up, he simply looks off into the distance.
Confessional- Nile (Screaming Pelicans)
"Ever since I was nine, I've done everything I ever put my mind to," Nile says. "I competed in Olympic level soccer, and won. I passed the LSAT with a perfect score; and this is just another thing on my checklist. I will settle for nothing less than perfection, and my win will be perfect."
We're with a different group of eight. Compared to the other group, they're a bit more down-trodden. One girl wears a fast-food apron, and cap; we close in on her first.
Confessional- Ainsley (Killer Moles)
"To be honest, I'm here because my three part-time jobs offered me paid leave to go on the show," Ainsley sighs. Her chyron reads 'Killer Moles'. "I'm ready to get voted out first, or win the whole thing."
Confessional- Kirby (Killer Moles)
Kirby is practically jumping around the confessional as they look around. Their hair is pulled into a practical ponytail with a pink cap. "I love Total Drama!" Kirby exclaims. "I think people will underestimate me for being small, but they don't know I'm smarter than all the other fifteen heads put together." They put their fists together. "Game on. Let there be blood."
Confessional- Collin (Killer Moles)
Collin is a small mousy boy, wearing a powder-blue shirt and khakis. "I just heard there was money here," he shrugs. "I'll take whatever money I can make!"
The two boats are pulling up on either side of the Dock of Shame. Chris grins, as the two teams begin climbing up. On the Screaming Pelicans side, George is already up and out of the boat, impatiently waiting on the green-colored mat for the rest of his team. Meanwhile, Nolan is helping the Killer Moles up- particularly Collin.
Collin breathes a "thank you", and Nolan simply nods, as they continue to walk to their mat.
Chris nods as everyone has joined him. "Welcome everyone to Total Drama: Attack of the Island," he says. "We've invited you all for a very specific purpose- to beat each other up for our entertainment."
Confessional- Wu (Screaming Pelicans)
Wu is a tall girl with dark black hair, and she pouts in the confessional. "At least they're being direct this season."
"This season is a bit different, as we've divided you up based on… aptitude," Chris says, partnered with a mischievous grin. "Chef?"
Chef Hatchet rolls his eyes. "Green team-" he points to the Screaming Pelicans. "You all are the success-stories. The favorites to win at whatever you try," he says, clearly bored. He throws a team banner at them, which George attempts to catch. He doesn't; instead falling to the ground with the flag on top of him.
"Red team," Chef turns around. Instinctively, Nolan jumps in front of the team- preparing for a banner attack. "You all are the underdogs, and while you may not win, your spirit carries you through," Chef is now making no effort to hide that he's reading off a cue card, and haphazardly tosses the banner to Nolan.
Chris grins. "Thank you Chef! Now, we have put the hidden invincibility totems in play once again this season," he says. He pulls a slip of paper out of his breast pocket and waves it around. It is similar to the invincibility pass Heather discovered in Season 1 over ten years ago. "The design has been changed, but there is one at each camp. If you find it, you can play it only before I announce who is safe." He folds it back up and puts it back into his pocket, and takes out two new slips of paper. He tosses them to each team. "These are maps to your new homes. Take the trek back as a chance to get to know each other."
Confessional- Kim (Screaming Pelicans)
"I'm SO excited to get to know everyone!" Kim jumps in her seat. She's wearing a light blue top with a beige cardigan. "I'm a big people person, and getting to know people is going to be a blast!"
The Killer Moles are making their way to their camp, with Nolan leading the way. He's a tall black man, wearing a navy blue "Ontario PD" shirt, and is flanked by both Brandon and Collin.
Confessional- Nolan (Killer Moles)
The chyron appears. "Investigating my team, I'm looking for people who respond well to authority," Nolan says. "As a police officer in training, I want people who will come and be loyal to me, and the people that caught my eye are Brandon, the farming kid, and Kirby the pink hat person." He rubs his chin. "Kirby mentioned how much they love the game at least five times on the hike, so I know they are smart, but I wonder if they'd stay with me."
At the back of the group, Kirby, Ainsley, and Andy are all bringing up the rear. "What do you guys do?" Kirby asks, excitedly.
"Three part time jobs," Ainsley deadpans.
Kirby looks expectantly at Andy, who shrugs. "I'm uh… a college student." He says.
"What do you study?"
"Marine biology," Andy says, looking off to the side. Ainsley narrows her eyes at him.
Confessional- Ainsley (Killer Moles)
"I smell bull."
Kirby doesn't seem to notice. Andy notices a group of other people, and politely excuses himself. Ainsley frowns and looks at Kirby. "You think he was lying?"
Kirby gazes back. "Why?"
"He didn't meet your eyes. Like a bad poker player."
"But why lie?"
"Why not?"
Kirby pauses for a moment, then laughs. "You're more cynical than you look, El."
"El?"
"Nickname. I give 'em to people I like."
Ainsley processes for a moment. "Thanks."
Confessional- Ainsley (Killer Moles)
"Okay, Kirby doesn't totally suck. They're still really annoying, but at least they act normal sometimes."
"We're here!" Collin calls from a distance. Ainsley and Kirby both run up to see what the cabins look like and– they're the cabins. As cruddy and run down as they have ever been.
"Oh my god!" Kirby yells, running towards the cabin. Ainsley rolls her eyes, while Nolan rubs his chin.
Nolan hands the map to Brandon. "So! Let's get all divided up and then we can learn a bit more about each other," he smiles, throwing his duffel bag over his shoulder.
The group leaves, but Andy lingers. He looks up into the tree and smiles, before joining them.
Confessional- Andy (Killer Moles)
"I've already started to see the factions forming and I am loving it," Andy grins. "Nolan is the noble type, which is super annoying, but he and Brandon have been getting along already. Kirby is much more…" he thinks. "Enthusiastic, but they and Ainsley seem to be getting along. In every season, we have to have alliances, and this season I think I'm right in the middle."
Within the cabins, the Screaming Pelicans are starting to put their things down. It hasn't even been two minutes before George has dropped his things and leapt out the door. Well. Through the door.
Kim looks at the George-shaped hole in the door. "Should… we…?"
"No." Summer sights loudly, throwing up a poster of herself over her bed.
"Where did you get a poster of you?" Nick asks.
Confessional- Nick (Screaming Pelicans)
"OBVIOUSLY I know who Summer is," Nick says. "I own a barbershop in Ontario. I play K-Pop all the time, but I don't want her to know I know that."
While Nick and Summer are talking about K-Pop inside the cabins, Evans is sitting outside, reading a book when Kim approaches her.
"You aren't talking with them?" Evans asks, not looking up.
Kim laughs. "No. I don't know the first thing about K-Pop. My family… moved before I was born."
"You're Korean?" This gets Evans to look up.
Kim nods.
"My family emigrated from Japan years ago," Evans smiles. "It's good to meet you! We needed to fit in, so our name got changed to Evans. It's just a matter of… blending in with the crowd."
Kim nods again. "Can I sit next to you?"
Evan shrugs, and Kim sits. "Speaking of fitting in, I wonder what George is off doing."
"Hunting for the invincibility pass," Evans replied nonchalantly.
"He told you?!" Kim gasps.
"Educated guess," Evans says, flipping a page. "I'm not sure what else he'd be doing in the woods. He isn't athletic enough to be hunting."
We pan down to George, underneath the deck who looks offended.
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"Hey!"
"Should we go out and look as well?" Kim asks. Nick and Summer are still chatting and she waves at them.
"Why bother?" Evans asks. "Nobody finds the idol on Total Drama until the middle of the game at least. George is wasting his time."
Kim blinks. "You're really smart, you know that?"
Evans laughs. "I hadn't heard."
Confessional- Evans (Screaming Pelicans)
"Kim is definitely sweet, but I think she is naive." Evans pushes up her glasses. "But, if we're going to be allies, I can definitely be the brains."
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"Well, I went out looking for the invincibility pass," George says. "But I realized I probably wouldn't find it, so I decided to eavesdrop, and who would guess I'd find the first alliance of the game!" He rubs his hands together. "We aren't wasting any time this season!"
Back at the Killer Moles Camp, Brandon is putting his luggage on a top bunk, while Nolan is organizing several beds across the room. The small chyron lists that it is now Day 2. "Where'd everyone go?" Brandon asks, looking around.
"Collin thinks he saw a bird," Nolan replies. "Kirby insisted the group go out to find it."
Brandon blinks. "Seriously?"
Nolan shrugs. "But I'm glad to be stuck here with you. Me and you are gonna run this team."
Brandon nods.
"I know you're an honest guy, and I can trust you 100%," Nolan continues.
"You too," Brandon replies. "I know I can always trust you."
Confessional- Nolan (Killer Moles)
"Brandon can't trust me, but for the moment, I want to build my alliance," Nolan says. "Kirby is too smart, and Ainsley is attached to them at the hip. So my group is going to be-" the camera cuts to shots of the people as he names them. "Brandon, Andy, and Amanda. Then I'll talk to Collin. And then we start cutting down their numbers."
Collin is looking around for the aforementioned bird.
"Collin!" Nolan's voice comes from across the forest. The Con Man turns to see Nolan approaching him. "Listen man, I got a bit of a racket going," he says, taking out his hand and counting people off on his fingers. "Me, Brandon, Amanda, Andy, and you. We make an alliance, we keep each other safe."
Collin frowns. "No thanks."
Confessional- Nolan
"What?!"
"I'm not really into the strategy stuff," Collin says, turning around and looking for his bird.
Nolan is aghast. "So how will you vote?"
"Alphabetically," Collin replies. "And keep your voice down."
"So you're going to… vote for Ainsley?" Nolan asks.
"Unless someone pisses me off."
Confessional- Collin
"Alliances always fail, and I want to show the game can be won with honor and integrity," Collin smiles at those words. "My vote is just based on… whoever made the alphabet. Jesus, I think."
Brandon is sitting on the top bunk, when Nolan enters, still bewildered. Amanda is laying on her bed across the room from Brandon. "How'd it go?" Brandon asks.
"He's not in," Nolan says.
Amanda looks up. "What?"
"He says he doesn't 'do the strategy stuff'." Nolan uses exaggerated air quotes. "He's voting alphabetically, so Ainsley is up first."
"Do you think he'll tell Kirby about the alliance?" Brandon asks.
Nolan sighs. "If he does, we're totally boned."
Ainsley and Kirby are now approaching Collin- still deeply invested in his bird search. "Collin!" Kirby says.
Collin turns to her and makes a shushing gesture.
"Sorry," Kirby sighs. Ainsley simply rolls her eyes. "I wanted to ask you about an alliance."
Collin groans. "Not this again."
Confessional- Kirby
"Again? Nolan, you rat!"
"What do you mean again?" Ainsley asks.
"Nolan asked me about it earlier. I'm voting alphabetically," Collin says, before walking away and leaving the two on their own.
Kirby groans. "Great. One less vote we can count on."
/
George is creeping around the woods, popping in and out of trees. He appears under a turtle, outside of a bird's nest, and is generally everywhere.
Confessional- George
"Since Kim and Evans have been getting along, I know I need to start building my alliance," George says. He reaches into his pocket and shows it's empty. "Without the invincibility pass, I need some form of protection. I think I can trust Mark, he's a bit quiet and I think he'll follow me, and Summer… well she's just a dumb popstar, it can't be that hard to manipulate her."
Mark is outside looking out at the sunset on Day Two of the journey at Camp Wawanakwa when George leaps out from under a nearby bush. "Me. You. Alliance." He says.
Mark shrugs. George gives him a thumbs-up and slithers away.
Summer is still talking to Nick about… presumably K-Pop, when George grabs her and pulls her into the top of a tree. "We're making an alliance," he says. "Me, you, and Mark. We vote together, they'll never be able to vote us out. Good?"
"I- uh- yeah?" Summer stammers.
"Good," George says, and shoves her out of the tree and back next to Nick, who didn't even notice she was gone.
Nick blinks. "So, I wanted to talk to you about something."
Summer is a bit of a daze. "What's up?"
"Me and Kim have been talking, and we want to make an alliance with you," Nick says. He pats down his floral shirt. "Kim is tight with Evans, we're thinking the four of us get together, and George is going home. He's just too shady"
Summer looks up into the trees.
Confessional- Summer (Killer Moles)
"Did he LEAVE?"
Summer hesitates. "Okay. We can do that."
We're now on the peak of the highest mountain of Camp Wawanakwa. Chris is grinning, and the cast has changed into their bathing suits. The chyron labels this 'Day 3'.
Confessional- Nolan (Killer Moles)
"Coming into this challenge, it is critical that we win," Nolan says. "Since Collin isn't being cooperative, I need more time to lock down my alliance with Brandon, and oust Kirby from this game before they start making moves."
Confessional- Summer (Screaming Pelicans)
"It's really important we win," Summer says. "I haven't had time to think about if I want to work with Kim and Nick, or with George and Mark. I don't want to upset anyone yet."
Chris smiles. "Today, your challenge is a variation on the classic Total Drama intro, jumping off a cliff into shark infested water!"
The cast gulps at this.
"Well, it would be shark infested. But as a condition of my parole, I'm not allowed near 'dangerous objects or animals'," Chris groans. "So, we're doing normal cliff diving today, but you'll be diving for puzzle pieces at the bottom. There are three per team, and you will make one person for your team solve the puzzle. The rest of you dive."
The Killer Moles look amongst each other before Kirby raises their hand. "I'm pretty good with puzzles," they say sheepishly.
"Fine with me," Nolan nods. "I dive first, and Brandon goes next. That way we get a big lead, and give Kirby as much time with the puzzle as possible."
The Screaming Pelicans, on the other hand, are quite dysfunctional. George is yelling about the puzzle, while most of the team looks dejected. "I will do it and that is final!" George demands.
"But I am a puzzle league champion!" Nile retorts. "I can solve a Rubik's Cube in 20 seconds flat!"
"That would be impressive if the puzzle WERE a rubik's cube, but it's in pieces at the bottom of a lake!" George yells.
Chris is tapping his foot impatiently.
"I'm with Nile," Kim says awkwardly.
Confessional- Kim (Screaming Pelicans)
"I'm bad with confrontation," Kim sighs. "But Nile is a champion with puzzles. How can we not pick him? I'd say George thinks he's the second coming of Christ, but I'm pretty sure he thinks he's too good for Jesus." Kim crosses her arms.
Confessional- Brandon (Killer Moles)
"And I thought we were a mess," the good ol' boy says thickly. "Personally, I'm quite good at puzzles. I spent a year in Micronesia as well, but it's part of the plan not to tell people that. I'd rather 'em think I'm a hillbilly first."
George turns to Summer, expectantly. She simply shrugs, and points to Nile.
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"That-" The confessional cuts him off before he can say any more.
Chris is smiling, and some time has clearly passed. Below him, Nile and Kirby are waiting by puzzle tables, while Nolan and Kim are both preparing to dive. "Alright! Everyone seems to be in place. Get ready…" Chris pauses for dramatic effect before pulling out his airhorn and blowing it. Both Nolan and Kim take a running jump.
Nolan hits the water first and resurfaces with a bag, swimming them over to Kirby. Kim is about two seconds behind him, as he tags Kirby, and Brandon takes the next running dive.
George and Summer, meanwhile, are at the top of the cliff, and Summer looks at him. "I'm sorry," she says. "I know you wanted to do the puzzle, but the team wanted Nile."
"Well, we'll see when Nile loses us this challenge," George says bitterly. Nick takes a running jump in the distance, but Brandon is already swimming towards Kirby with the next bag. The Quirky Oddball is quickly putting pieces together by the time he arrives and tags them.
Nick hits the water and immediately resurfaces.
"What's wrong?!" Nile calls from across the beach.
"It's too deep!" Nick cries back, taking a deep breath and preparing to dive again. But Chris descends with his jetpack, making a clicking noise with his tongue.
"Nope! One try only!" The host smiles.
"So what?! I have to go back with nothing?!"
"Guess so!"
Nick rolls his eyes and begins to swim back to the surface.
At the top, Amanda is preparing to jump, but hesitates for a moment.
"Amanda?" Andy asks.
"I'm trying to figure out if my chi is right!"
Confessional- Amanda (Killer Moles)
"I'm a second generation aura reader," Amanda says matter-of-factly. "I never do anything without reading the situation first."
Confessional- Andy (Killer Moles)
"Oh brother."
"I'm sure you're great, just jump!" Andy says, very clearly losing his patience.
Ainsley has arrived back at the top of the cliff to go again. "What's going on?"
"Amanda is trying to figure out if her chi is right," Andy moans.
"Oh, I have a remedy for that," Ainsley says, walking over and proceeding to shove Amanda off the cliff. "Manifest it yourself!"
George is preparing to jump and looks over. "Did you just throw your teammate off a cliff?"
"JUMP!" Nile barks from below.
George rolls his eyes and leaps.
George has landed in the water, and locates his bag, the final one. He quickly unties it, and tosses a piece away, before retying it and moving back to the surface.
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"Losing is part of my strategy," George says. "And I fully plan to blame Nile for not getting the puzzle done."
Nile and Kirby are messing with pieces when Amanda- slightly disheveled- washes up on the surface, bag of pieces in tow. She tosses them to Kirby, who continues rapidly moving pieces around. George is right behind her, making up a lot of time, and throws the bag to Nile.
Nile finishes the puzzle faster but is missing a piece. "Ugh!" He cries. "This is all your fault!" He rounds on Nick.
Meanwhile, Kirby finishes the puzzle.
"The Killer Moles have won the challenge!" Chris descends on his jetpack. "Screaming Pelicans, you all have nothing but a date with me tonight!"
Confessional- Nile
"I know that city boy lost one of the pieces in the water," Nile fumes. "He is dead."
Kim, Nick, and Evans are sitting in a circle back at the Screaming Pelicans camp.
"I know Nile is coming for me," Nick sighs. "I messed up that challenge."
Evans nods. "But, I think we can swing Summer and Wu onto our side."
"And target who?" Kim says, playing in the dirt with a stick.
"George." Evans says. "He's too schemey for his own good. We need to vote him out while we have the chance."
Confessional- Evans (Screaming Pelicans)
"Summer is one of the most social people out here, so she is one of the votes that matter most tonight," the perfectionist says. "And Wu hasn't really bonded with anyone, but we need her vote to win."
Nile is playing basketball on the side of the cabin, when he turns to George. "What do you want?" He says.
"I was wondering if I could convince you not to vote for Nick tonight," George says. "I've got another plan."
"No chance. He cost us the game, he leaves tonight."
"But strategically-"
"I don't care."
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"Well, I tried."
Summer and Wu are sitting in the dining hall, when Evans approaches them. "I hope we can count on you tonight," she says.
"Sure," Wu replies. "What's the plan?"
"George." Evans says. "We need to get him out before he finds that immunity thing and runs the game."
Summer and Wu exchange glances.
"I think Nick is the better choice," Wu says. "He did lose the challenge, and Nile is really PO'ed at him."
"But Nick isn't a threat," Evans replies. "George will run this game if he gets the chance."
Summer sighs, then wordlessly nods.
"Great!" Evans smiles.
When the perfectionist leaves, George slides down from off the ceiling, having watched the entire exchange. "Don't forget our agreement," he says. "Mark is with us, and with four votes, we can win this vote."
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
"I'm everywhere!" He smiles. "Sneaky sneaky Evans, but you haven't played with the snakiest player yet."
The group of losers are headed to the Campfire Ceremony, when George grabs Kim and pulls her into a bush.
"What are you-" Kim demands before pausing. George is holding the invincibility pass. "Oh my god."
George nods. "I have this tonight, and I'm going to play it. You can vote for me, but me and Mark are voting for Nick. Since that's what Nile wants, I think we could be united if we all vote together."
Kim hesitates, and George takes his chance. "I know you're close to him, but we need to be a TEAM. Nick just isn't a team player, he's awful in challenges."
Kim still doesn't respond, but eventually nods slowly. "Okay. I understand. Thank you George."
Confessional- Kim (Screaming Pelicans)
"If George, Nile, and Mark are all voting for Nick, it means Summer and Wu probably are too," Kim sighs. "I think Nick is dead meat here."
The Screaming Pelicans are sitting at the campfire, while Chris and Chef are behind the podium. "Good job guys!" Chris grins. "Ended up sucking so hard that you are here. Chef?"
"Nick, your bad swimming cost the team a challenge," Chef says. "George-"
"Can I say something first?" George asks. Chef blinks, but nods. George reaches into his pocket and pulls out the invincibility pass. "I think some votes are coming my way, so I figured I'd show this to everyone. I'm not going home tonight."
Chris laughs. "Seriously?"
Evans is shocked. She looks over at George. "There's no guarantee he plays it."
"Go on and bet a million dollars on it," George smirks, folding it up and putting it back in his pocket.
Nile laughs and shakes his head.
"Nile?" Chef asks.
"Clearly there's a lot happening," Nile says. "I was never voting for George, but he's clearly paranoid enough to think that someone was."
"Paranoid maybe," George says. "But smart."
Kim has been incredibly quiet, looking down at her shoes. Meanwhile, Mark puts his hand on her shoulder. She looks up at him, and Mark nods to her.
"Well, I think it's time to vote," Chris says. "George, if you wish to play that, put it into the urn along with your vote. You must play it before the votes are counted." George nods. "Alright. You're up."
The Screaming Pelicans are up to vote. Evans grabs a ballot and writes 'George' in all italicized capital letters. "You're a snake. Funny play with the invincibility pass, but all you're done is prove you have to go home tonight."
Nile has written 'Nick' in cursive. "You cost us the challenge. I thought about voting for George after he pulled that, but we need to win."
Kim hesitates for a moment, before writing 'Nick' in loopy lowercase letters. "There's no point in voting for George. Sorry Nick."
Summer has the pen in her hand but nothing written. She goes back and forth in her mind, but we cut away before she makes the decision.
Chris grabs the voting urn and heads back out.
"Alright, if anyone doesn't receive a marshmallow, they have been eliminated from the game, and can never return," Chris says. "Nothing was played."
All of the color drains from Kim's face. Mark glances over at her and shakes his head.
"Alright. First up. Mark, Summer and Wu, you are all safe." Chris tosses them marshmallows. "Kim, Nile, you both are also fine."
Confessional- Summer
"Back in Korea my manager never lets me eat sugar," Summer squeals. "So this is a fun treat! Plus it's way better than whatever crap Chef serves. Maybe we should come here more often."
There's a pause. Nick chews his fingernails, while George and Evans both look fairly confident. "Nick, you are also safe."
"Oh my god." Kim realizes what has just happened.
Confessional- George (Screaming Pelicans)
This is George's voting confessional, and he holds up his ballot reading 'Evans'. "This is what you get for trying to form an alliance with Summer to get me out," he says. "Summer is MY pawn, and all you've done is make yourself too big a threat to take any further. Kim is so wishy-washy, convincing her to flip on Nick was easy, and now your little alliance is done and broken."
Confessional- Mark (Screaming Pelicans)
"Long live King George," he says, holding up his vote for Evans.
"George, you are also safe," Chris says, tossing him the final marshmallow. "Evans, you have been eliminated."
Evans gapes. "Summer?"
Summer just looks away.
"You were the only one who knew what they were doing," George says smugly, biting into his marshmallow.
"Oh, shut up George," Evans snaps. "Your ego is going to be the death of you, you know that?"
"It hasn't yet, but yours has." George winks.
Evans rolls her eyes. "I'm ready to go."
Chris smiles as he shoves Evans onto a plane. "This is our new Flight of Shame (patent pending)," he says. "Basically, you will be flown and dropped off over whatever remains of Pahkitew Island. Good luck!"
As the plane takes off, Evans screams, and Chris turns to the camera. "Alright! Will Nolan and Kirby end up eating each other alive? Will George manage to live another vote? And can Kim manage to recover from voting her number one ally? All this and more, next time on Total! Drama! Attack of the Island!"
Author's Commentary
And that is part one! With the elimination of Evans, I did want to cover a couple things in this chapter.
For one- this is definitely a fic where the GAME is very big. Some fics focus more on comedy, and some focus a lot of character development- and while there will be plenty of both, this fic is first and foremost about the game. My main aspiration is to make a fic that is believable, where you can truly understand exactly why each person is eliminated, and grasp the strategy at any given moment. TD has a habit of throwing in some... less than rationale boots simply for the sake of the plot, and for the purposes of the story I want to tell with this fic, it makes the most sense to have the characters come first. Nobody will have "plot armor" in this fic.
I also wanted to cover some of the characters I cut! Like I said, I started brainstorming this fic over a year ago when working a summer job. For that reason, Ainsley was the first character I fully developed (her no nonsense attitude and dry sarcasm is exactly what every worker feels six hours into a shift), and while her name did change occasionally in development, I'd say she's one of the characters that changed the least.
Other characters include Christie, who was cut for Amanda (I had too many -ey names lol), Andy had several names in development, including Alexei (a tribute to Alexei Navalny). Nolan was originally named Ulysses as a tribute to President Grant, but it was a bit too much of a mouthful. Summer was at one point named Jessie, Nile was named Eagle as a reference to the CO in Advance Wars and Sato, and so many more.
Characters I cut entirely include a character named Kathy as an homage to Survivor: Marquesas but she ended up feeling derivative of Kirby. She would have had a growth arc and most of my projections and voting charts had her fourth on a similar trajectory to the real Kathy.
Brett was an homage to Survivor Samoa and would have been Mr. Nice Guy. He would have been very quiet in the premerge, and had an early immunity run in the merge section, but he was cut because of his similarity to Nile and generally being a bit bland.
Kaede ended up being similar to Kathy, and was an allusion to Danganronpa v3, but I cut her as well as there weren't a lot of interesting directions to take her.
Onto the chapter itself! George finishes with a whopping NINE confessionals this episode, and absolutely crushes the screen time, much like his inspiration. I wanted to establish him as our antagonist, and having pull off a clever move like this in episode one was the best way to do that. George isn't to be underestimated! We also kick off a couple arcs here, Nolan v Kirby; Kim's gullibility; and a couple others, which was the purpose of this pilot. Basically establishing intrigue on both ends, but sadly, Evans was always the boot here. She was used to establish George, and is arguably the character that went through the least change in all of development simply because she always would go first here. Ironically, I think Evans would win at least 5 simulations on this cast, if we were to run 100 of them; but this is not the simulation we are in.
Survivor also looms large over this fic, and while I won't deny a lot of Survivor plays a role here, I also am striving to make the fic accessible for everyone, including those who have not seen the show and know nothing. You might just get some wink wink nudge nudge allusions I make while writing, as well as getting an idea for some of the influences for the characters (each of the stereotypes are survivor archetypes they use in casting, for example). But I will be showing the influences for each character in these Authors Notes.

If you have any questions, I am more than happy to address them, you can leave them in reviews or PMs! It would mean the world to me if you reviewed or engaged with the fic if you enjoyed it, or even if you hated it! I would love some constructive criticism to make this a fic anyone can pick up and enjoy, and I truly think I have a great story to tell everyone who wants to read it. Thank you all so much! You are the guys who make the "famous" in "I wanna be famous" :)
