The red sun had yet to grace the horizon, and Kal-El's beautiful sixteen-year-old daughter, Valara, was busy memorizing the Father's Day song she'd written for her fantastic father. She still felt it was quite right, though, as her delicate hands fingered the multicolored and metallic musical instrument, a cross between a stringed instrument and a keytar.
Almost everyone she knew said she had the most captivating voice on Krypton. Still, she tried to keep her voice down as she sang some of her songs, as she didn't want to spoil the surprise.
"We were sentinels of starry nights,
Guardians of a distant realm,
Now, as fathers in our home world,
In our hearts, we hold the helm.
From the ancient moons to crystal seas,
We stand strong, our spirits free,
With love as bright as cosmic light,
We protect through the endless night."
She sang the first verse before quickly frowning. "The words are perfect! Why can't I get the melody to be perfect as well?" she muttered to herself. Unexpectedly, there was a knock on her locked bedroom door. "Van? If that's you, please go away."
"It is me, sis! And I need your help in the kitchen!" her eleven-year-old brother said quietly through the sealed door.
"Ugh. Okay, but I don't know why. You know I'm a lousy cook!" she mumbled as she opened the door where her brother and the family dog Krypto were waiting. "What exactly do you need my help with in the kitchen? Again, you know I'm a disaster in the kitchen! I even burn water!" she reminded her little brother exasperatedly.
"Mom's already taken care of breakfast, sis. She even made Dad's favorite pastry morkat last night. You have to warm it up, that is all. What I need help with the decorations," he clarified with a slightly annoyed tone.
"Okay, but be quiet, Van. We don't want to wake Mom or Dad!" she whispered as they headed to the kitchen. Other then the futuristic tech, it looked like an ordinary kitchen. The siblings quickly handed various decorations and placed some fresh flowers in a blue glass vase at the center of the table.
"Remember to be careful with the vase, little brother," Valara said over her shoulder as she hung the last decorations. She was pretty tall for a girl and, like her mother, had very shapely legs to hang the Father's Day banner without a problem.
Van rolled his bright blue eyes, retorting, "I know, Val! I won't let anything happen to Grandma Lara's vase! I won't break her last gift to our parents!" he said, being extremely careful with the vase in question.
Their maternal grandmother, Lara, had died during a recent pandemic. Before she died, she handcrafted the blue spinel vase for their parents' last anniversary. She chose blue spinel because of its spiritual meaning.
The siblings quickly finished in the kitchen before taking Krypto for his morning walk. They didn't need their father hassling them that Van again forgot to walk the dog. After Krypto had his morning exercise, the siblings quickly but silently raced back to their rooms to change into clothes Valara had designed herself for that day.
Valara had chosen to wear a fashionable fitted jumpsuit with cut-out details made of a specialized material she'd invented. Depending on the EMF spectrum would determine both the color and the patterns viable on the jumpsuit.
Van's new outfit was made from another unique fabric his older sister created. This one could adapt to any change in the environment instantly. She'd created a fitted shirt and pants with moving graphics and a stylish multi-pocket vest for him.
Their mother, Loana, had also slipped out of the bedroom to get dressed in the master's bath in the enchanting dress that her daughter had fashioned for her. It was a long, flowing dress with iridescent, bioluminescent threads woven into the fabric, giving it a soft glow and showing off a floral print. Loana then decorated her shiny red hair with a delicate accessory made from rare crystals.
By the time the sun rose, everyone was fashionable and showering Kal-El with love and praise. They spent the whole day pampering him with his favorite foods, walking along the countryside, and having lunch by a beautiful lake. They even stargaze for a while before returning home.
Once there, the kids gave their father their gifts. Van gave him a handcrafted model of their family, including Krypto, to which his father said it was some of the best craftwork he'd ever seen.
Valara gazed her violet eyes into her father's blue ones before she began to sing the song she'd written for today.
"We were sentinels of starry nights,
Guardians of a distant realm,
Now, as fathers in our home world,
In our hearts, we hold the helm.
From the ancient moons to crystal seas,
We stand strong, our spirits free,
With love as bright as cosmic light,
We protect through endless nights.
We were made to be courageous,
In this world beyond the stars,
We were made to lead our families,
With the strength of who we are.
So we'll stand, the brave, the steadfast,
In the light of glowing suns,
We were made to be courageous,
We are fathers, we are one.
In the fields of flowers,
In the glow of bioluminescent skies,
We'll teach our young the ancient powers,
To be just, and strong, and wise.
With every dawn, we face the trials,
With hearts of hope and courage true,
Together, we will walk these miles,
In this world, both old and new.
We were made to be courageous,
In this world beyond the stars,
We were made to lead our families,
With the strength of who we are.
So we'll stand, the brave, the steadfast,
In the light of glowing suns,
We were made to be courageous,
We are fathers, we are one.
We'll rise above the cosmic storm,
With love, our hearts are warm,
Through galaxies unknown,
We'll guide our children home.
We were made to be courageous,
In this world beyond the stars,
We were made to lead our families,
With the strength of who we are.
So we'll stand, the brave, the steadfast,
In the light of glowing suns,
We were made to be courageous,
We are fathers. We are one!"
She took a deep breath after she finished singing it so passionately. "So, Daddy? Did you like it?"
"I loved it! But what I love most about today and life are the simple things. And just having one more day with you is all I want for any day of the year."
"Oh, Kal, your so sentimental," his wife replied as the family tackled him. It was a great Father's Day, after all!
