The sound of the flickering of fluorescent lights filled the silence in the dimly lit hallway. Heels clicked as they collided with the ground, stepping over unconscious guards and shards of glass. The figure turned the corner and abnormally stretched her arm, breaking another surveillance camera.
She then faced a fortified door with the words "General Immortus" engraved. A satisfied smile grew on her face. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small electronic device. She approached the keypad on the wall and placed the device on it. After pressing a few buttons, the gadget charged up. The keypad began smoking before finally exploding.
The large doors slowly opened. The woman scanned the small room. Her eyes widened.
It was empty. The bed was neat and undisturbed. Almost as if someone hadn't been there in days.
"What…? No!" she screamed in frustration, her French accent apparent. Before the woman had time to gather her thoughts, a disc came flying in her direction and exploded. The woman flew back with a grunt, using her elasticity to catch her fall. She looked up to see another figure standing in the darkness.
"Sorry, Rouge." The masked figure entered the light. "But it's safe to say that Immortus isn't getting parole anytime soon."
Madame Rouge got back up on her feet. "Well, if it isn't the Boy Wonder." Her scowl turned into a smirk. "Did Starfire enjoy her brother's visit?"
A fire erupted within the teenager. The memory of the cruel woman's deception as Starfire's brother replayed in his mind. Her brother had been missing, for his own safety, ever since the Gordanians invaded Tamaran several years before Starfire arrived on Earth. With an angered cry, Robin charged at the woman, and the staff extended. Madame Rouge easily dodged his attack by stretching her body to the side and threw a punch. Similarly, Robin blocked the hit with his staff. The pair began a long pattern of throwing and dodging blows, neither seeming to get the upper hand.
Finally, Madame Rouge grabbed onto the teenager and threw him behind her with an extended hand. Robin caught himself at the last second and ran back to the villain. Instead of charging at her, he threw his staff at her. The staff landed next to the woman.
She let out a snicker. "Is that the best you can d-" Before she could finish her sentence, a green rhino rammed into her side, sending her through a wall.
The rhino shifted into a green boy who began snickering. "Really, Rouge? After all of the times me and you have fought, the distraction tactic still works?"
Madame Rouge got back on her feet and let out an angered grunt. She charged at the green teen with multiple punches. Beast Boy shifted into several small animals to dodge them. He then transformed into a monkey and started climbing her body before latching onto her head. Madam Rouge began trying to swat him away, accidentally hitting herself several times. Finally, she was able to rip him off her head and throw him into the air. Robin quickly threw a couple of explosive discs, causing Madame Rouge to fly off the ground.
Beast Boy quickly shifted into a kangaroo and landed a hard kick to the slender woman, sending her crashing to the floor with a loud thud. Rouge, pained, was about to get up when suddenly a large shadow appeared below her. She gasped as the shadow lifted off the floor and covered her in the shape of a bird. Before she could react, the bird sent her crashing through the floor, going through two stories. The bird dissolved into a blue-cloaked girl who stood behind Rouge.
Rouge immediately moved out of the girl's reach before she could attack again. The woman used her elasticity to grab onto an exposed pipe. She pulled on it until it snapped, releasing a white gas in the corridor. Rouge coughed as the gas spread. When the gas had dissolved, the empath was nowhere to be found. From the corner of her eye, she saw a flash of blue and was hit from behind. She let out a pained yell as she hit the ground.
Slowly, Rouge tried to get up but was slammed into by Starfire, sending her through a wall. Her vision became blurry due to the hard hits she was receiving. Loud footsteps approached her crouched form. Her sight was clear enough to make out Cyborg leaping towards her, a fist outstretched. She barely managed to melt her body and ooze away from the hit in time, making Cyborg punch the ground. Before she could respond, a green fly in front of her transformed into a T-Rex. With a roar, Beast Boy turned around and smacked Rouge with his tail, sending her flying.
She hit the wall with a sickening thud and began to sink to the floor. However, black energy surrounded her body and threw her into multiple walls. Finally, Raven threw her across the room. Rouge's eyes widened as she saw Robin in her line of vision. He let out a yell and swung his staff like a baseball bat.
BAM!
Rouge hit the ground disoriented. Her head throbbed in pain and she couldn't support her own weight.
"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos!" Raven chanted, creating a sack of restraint around the vindictive woman. Madam Rouge tried to move but her attempts were made futile by the magic and the pain within her body.
She snarled and glared at the five figures approaching her. "This isn't over," she said through gritted teeth.
"Even if it isn't, we'll be ready." Cyborg rebutted. A green glow emitted from Starfire's hands and she shot a starbolt at the woman's head, knocking her out.
Several armed police officers burst through the door and ran over to the teenagers. When one of them got close to Madam Rouge's sleeping figure, Raven let down her restraint, allowing them to place special cuffs on the supervillain. They hoisted her up and led her out of the room.
One of the guards shook hands with Robin. "Good work Titans. Everything worked out exactly as planned." He walked away to follow the rest of the police squad.
"Sweet! We finally caught Madame Rouge. Again." Beast Boy boasted. "This totally calls for another celebration."
"You mean the fourth one we've had in two months?" Raven groaned.
Cyborg fist-bumped the changeling. "Hey, it's not our fault we're so good at taking down the worst of the worst." Raven rolled her eyes.
"I agree with that!" Robin chimed in.
A familiar but sweet voice was then finally heard that night. "Friends, before we begin to throw another one of the social festivities, might we please consume a large pizza? I am quite unenergized." The other four looked at each other and came to the same conclusion.
The cybernetic teen responded, "Sure thing, Star. Tell you what, we'll let you have the last slice for how you beat Madam Rouge's ass today."
"Aw man. I totally called-" Beast Boy was then elbowed by both Robin and Raven and let out a yelp.
A smile had graced the alien's face and her eyes began to twinkle once more. "Glorious!" She quickly zoomed out of the room and out of the building.
"Wait up Star! Last one to the car is paying for the pizza" Robin yelled. The remaining four immediately ran after her, the boys pushing and shoving each other out of the way.
Picking up another clip, Robin put the cut-out newspaper on the wall. He stood back and reviewed his work. On the wall stuck several newspaper clippings with various villains and events that had been reported recently. His eyes wandered to a clipping with a man with a mask with two different colors on each side, only one eye sticking out. He stared at the man, deep in thought. The door of his room opened, revealing the red-headed alien, who held Silkie. Robin said nothing as she walked in and looked at the clippings.
Starfire let out a sigh. "Robin, how much rest have you gotten?"
This seemed to snap Robin out of his daze as he turned away to clean up his materials. "I woke up an hour ago," he simply stated.
"But what time did you begin slumbering?"
"A little after we got back last night."
Starfire put down her bumgorf. "Are you being truthful?"
Robin sighed dramatically with a smirk on his face. "Yes, Star. I told you I was going to try being less obsessive with my work. You don't have to be so worried." He finally looked up to see her looking at him with huge puppy dog eyes. "I promise," he said and gave her a peck on the lips. It was her turn to smile. "Now come on, let's see what Cy is making for breakfast."
Starfire picked up Silkie with a content smile on her face. As she and her boyfriend walked to the door, a clipping fell to the ground. Starfire, unlike Robin, noticed it and picked it up. The image of the figure made her feel uneasy. "Blackfire: Still Missing After Prison Break" read the headline followed by a picture of the devil herself.
"Star, you coming?" Robin asked.
"Just one moment, please!" his girlfriend replied, quickly placing the clipping back in its original spot. She stared at it for a few moments longer before leaving to catch up to the boy wonder.
The sound of sizzling sausages and waffle batter filled the air in the common room. A cartoon played on the large television, yet no one sat on the couch to watch. Well, at least Raven was paying it no mind as she read one of her books. Cyborg periodically checked on the foods to make sure they did not burn. Lastly, Beast Boy was asleep at the countertop, drool leaking out his lips and making a small pool on the table. Cyborg placed the finished waffles and sausages onto a plate and on the counter.
Watching his sleeping friend, a mischievous idea popped into his head. He grabbed two pans from the nearby cabinet and placed one in each hand. He got close to Beast Boy and spread his arms out before colliding with the pans.
CLANG!
Beast Boy awoke with a shriek, fell out of his seat, and landed on his back. Cyborg chuckled loudly at his friend's state of shock. "Rise and shine green bean!"
Unamused, Beast Boy shot the tinman a glare. "Dude! That's not funny", he whined, rubbing his sensitive ears.
"It was funny when you changed my alarm to the earrape version of the Avenue Alphabet theme song." Cyborg reminded him. The green boy got up and shrugged it off, knowing Cyborg had a point. The large man picked up a sausage with a fork and shoved it in Beast Boy's face. "Here, I made you some breakfast."
Beast Boy looked at him in an exaggeratedly incredulous way and gagged. "We've talked about this. I am a vegetarian. How about you try some tofu instead?"
"Is tofu meat?"
"No, it's tofu."
"Then I ain't eating it."
"There is nothing wrong with tofu!"
"Are you two idiots seriously about to have the same argument you've been having for years again?"
The two boys turned to face Raven, who had suddenly appeared at the counter. They looked at each other and then back at her. "Yes," they answered and continued arguing.
Raven grabbed two waffles off the counter, put them onto a plate, and muttered, "Boys."
The common room door opened. Robin and Starfire walked in and joined the other three. They each grabbed a couple of sausages and waffles. Starfire went to the fridge, pulled out a bottle of mustard, and grabbed a straw before sitting down. Robin then turned his attention to the two arguing boys and sat down.
"Okay, you two, break it up."
Reluctantly, they stopped. Beast Boy went to the pantry, grabbed a plastic oat cereal box, opened it, and filled it with almond milk. He then sat down in his chair at the counter.
"So, how's Titan's South?" Cyborg asked Robin.
"Just went on their first serious mission. They found out some of Professor Chang's former assistants were planning to make hybrid clones of certain superheroes using their DNA."
Starfire gasped. "Oh, how awful! Let us hope they did not acquire any of our biological matter."
"Luckily, they didn't, but they got a couple of the honorary Titans' DNA. Besides, South managed to track their location and destroyed all of their research."
"At least they didn't manage to make a clone of me. There's only room for one green handsome fella," Beast Boy boasted and flexed his arms.
"Who told you that?" Raven asked in slight amusement.
"I don't know. Oh, wait, all of my fangirls in Tokyo. Admit it, Rae, you know I'm good-looking."
"Hm," Raven replied, her eyes narrowing as she looked away.
Starfire politely wiped her mouth clean after she finished drinking some mustard and spoke up. "Speaking of the honorary Titans, is it wise that we have another celebration? I adore the social gatherings, but I have noticed the tower has become messy as of late."
The Titans looked around the room. To say it was untidy was an understatement. Countless dirty dishes sat in the sink with various degrees of food remnants stuck on them. The windows were covered in visible hand prints and were beginning to become hard to see out of. On the ground and walls, scraps of confetti and drink stains were apparent from the several organizational parties the Titans had been throwing in the last few months. Now that they thought about it, the rest of the tower hadn't been looking so well either.
"Well, that's nasty," Raven concluded and sipped the rest of her tea.
"And that's what happens when Cyborg doesn't do his chores," Robin stated.
The cybernetic man turned and looked at him incredulously. "Excuse me? You have to do them for the next month. You were too busy with your girlfriend to remember," Cyborg countered.
"No, the agreement was that whoever didn't reach the high score on Mega Monkeys 5 first had to do the chores."
"Hold up! You said whoever died first before reaching the high score would have to do them! You died twice!"
"Not the way I remember it."
"But that's exactly what you said"
"If it was, then why did we keep playing?"
Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven could only watch as the two boys went at it.
"Isn't this like their third fight this week?" Beast Boy asked.
"Could've sworn it was the fifth," Raven replied, rubbing her head, trying to prevent an oncoming headache.
The argument seemed to conclude with one final proposition. "Okay. One final bet. Whoever doesn't defeat the final boss in Super Ninja Fury 2 first has to clean up," Robin proposed.
"Deal."
In a matter of seconds, Cyborg and Robin were already sitting on the couch with controllers. They loaded up the game and started to battle the minion ninjas in the beginning levels.
Suddenly, Cyborg began to smile smugly. "Let's make this more interesting, shall we?" Robin raised an eyebrow, only taking his eyes off the screen for a moment. "Whoever loses has to clean up the entire tower and can't go on missions unless there's a serious threat."
Robin let out a chuckle. "You're on tinman."
The two edged closer and closer to the final boss battle, both doing quite well. They hadn't noticed when the three remaining Titans had moved over to the counter and began a hushed conversation. Finally, the two boys arrived at the boss battle. They exchanged quick insults before focusing all of their energy on the large ninja. Several minions came to protect their leader and distract the players. The boss had been down to low health when suddenly, not that the boys noticed, a black aura surrounded the GameStation cord and pulled it out of the wall. Before Cyborg could land the final hit, the screen went black.
"Huh?"
"No!"
Robin and Cyborg hurriedly rushed towards the TV to see what went wrong. They noticed that the GameStation had been unplugged and put it back in the outlet. The TV turned on and the game was still running. However, both of the players were on the ground with a large "Game Over!" looming over them.
"So… doesn't that mean you both have to clean up the tower?" Raven "innocently" asked.
Robin scoffed. "The bet was that whoever didn't beat the boss first was the loser."
Beast Boy ducked behind the couch, emerging with an off-white suit on. "Well." He reached into his suit and pulled out multiple papers. "The agreement was that whoever didn't complete Super Ninja Fury 2 by defeating the final boss would be subjected to cleaning the entire tower. If we take a look at the screen, both of you died, meaning that no one defeated the boss. With that logic, you both have to clean up the tower."
He gave a wide toothy grin with the last sentence, pointing at the signatures at the bottom of the paper.
Suddenly, the back of the changeling's suit was yanked as Cyborg pulled it over his head. "Gimme that!" He tore the paper into shreds. "Come on, traffic light, let's just restart it."
Robin and Cyborg turned back to the couch, only to see that the controllers were mysteriously gone. They both let out sounds of confusion, not noticing Starfire quietly placing something in a cabinet.
Before they could investigate, the alarm went off. Robin quickly ran up to the computer and pulled up a video from a news channel. The large screen showed a skinny blue-skinned man with a top hat exiting a building, carrying bags full of artifacts.
"Mumbo Jumbo just robbed the museum and is on his way to the bank. Titans, go!" Robin ordered. The Titans began running towards the doors.
Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy stopped dead in their tracks and faced the other two.
"Woah, woah, woah. Mumbo's not a big threat. Remember the contract?" Beast Boy reminded them smugly.
"Right." Cyborg pushed past them and walked to the garage.
Raven reached into her cloak and pulled out something silver. "You probably won't get far without these." Cyborg turned around and looked to see what was in her hands.
His eyes widened. It was his car keys.
"The tower's not going to clean itself," Raven commented, a small smirk apparent on her face.
"Have fun with that Cyborg," Robin spitefully said as he began walking out of the room.
"Robin."
He turned to see Starfire giggling while holding up another set of keys with an R keychain on it. He reached for his pocket to conclude that those were indeed the keys to his motorcycle.
"My apologies Robin, but you and Cyborg have been having many disagreements as of late. Me and our other friends thought it would be best for you two to be alone together for some time to sort out your differences."
"Have fun you two," concluded Beast Boy. The other three Titans rushed out of the room before Cyborg and Robin could get a word in.
Still stunned, they watched the now-closed door for a few moments. Then they turned to face each other.
Robin cleared his throat. "You're doing everything from the gym and below and I'll do everything else."
"That ain't happening. How about you do it along with Beast Boy's room," Cyborg shot back.
"People's rooms weren't on the list, but since you suggested it, you're doing his room." Robin began to walk away to a closet to get some cleaning supplies.
Cyborg ran towards his leader. "Why you little…"
Robin turned around to see Cyborg lunging at him. His eyes grew wide as dinner plates as he tried to move out of the way. However, he was a little too late as both boys hit the ground with a loud thud.
Mumbo cackled as he used his wand to empty the vault and fill his hat with money. Several employees were tied up using colorful silk ropes. They screamed for help and tried their best to get loose.
The magician finished draining the money from the safe. "Please save your applause until after the show." He waved his wand causing every employee to magically have their mouths covered.
"And now for my next trick, the amazing Mumbo will now-" he started again, only to be interrupted by a monitor hitting him in the back of the head. Mumbo almost collapsed and grabbed the back of his head. "Hey, what's the big idea?" He turned to see three of the Titans standing behind him in battle positions.
"Sorry Mumbo, but it looks like your show is canceled," Raven said.
The man smirked. "Well, if it isn't my favorite titanimals." He quickly realized that the team looked smaller than usual. "Say, where's the other two?"
"Uh, they're busy with something household related" Beast Boy clarified, ready to pounce and transform at any moment.
"It is us who you will have to face," Starfire finished, her hands glowing a bright green color as she levitated.
Mumbo took note of the circumstances as he grasped his wand tighter. "Sorry folks, looks like the show is going to be having a brief intermission." He pointed the wand at his enemies, the wand emitting a spark as it charged up. "But hey, here's my autograph!"
The wand summoned hundreds of papers, with Mumbo's signature on them, and sent them toward the Titans. Beast Boy and Starfire quickly moved out of the way as Raven put up a shield around herself. Everyone's vision in the bank was blocked by all of the papers falling around them.
Once all the papers had fallen to the ground, everyone was able to see once more. The Titans looked around the bank only to see no sign of the evil magician. They ran outside the bank to see several more autographs scattered around the sidewalk. However, multiple trails were leading away from the bank in different directions. The Titans shared a collective sigh.
This was going to take a while.
A scowl was present on Cyborg's face as he wiped down the giant window. "Stupid bet. Stupid hair gel-smelling elf," he muttered under his breath. He had already finished the dishes and sorted them into their respective cabinets. The counter was spotless and glistened as if it were newly polished.
In other words, he just about cleaned every nook and cranny the common room had to offer. As he worked on the last section of the window, Robin entered the room. Cyborg looked back to see him enter, a scowl crossing his face.
Robin said nothing and instead inspected the room.
Indeed, the cybernetic man had done an adequate job in the living room, but he wasn't going to tell him that.
He did say something though.
"Are you done? I'm done with the bathroom and the rest of the tower is going to take the two of us."
"Surprised it took you that long to clean a tiny bathroom," Cyborg shot at him.
"You try yanking four different people's hair out of the drains."
"Probably doesn't help you use buckets of hair gel everyday."
Robin's face turned a dark shade of red from a mixture of embarrassment and anger. As he didn't respond, Cyborg grew a smirk on his face and put down the window towel.
In truth, Robin didn't want to argue with his friend.
He knew something was bothering him. As the years passed, they had rarely had an argument that was actually serious. Robin classified this incident in the opposite. However, his friend seemed to have taken it much more seriously.
The boy wonder knew he had to stop this battle.
"Well come on then, bird brain."
As he was walking out the room, Cyborg heard the sound of something launching. Before he could react, his legs were wrapped around with a cord, sending him crashing to the floor. Cyborg snarled and ripped the cords.
He looked up to see his leader walking past him, mimicking his smirk.
Perhaps the battle could go on for a bit longer.
Starfire let out a shriek as she was assaulted with several large dice. She was sent tumbling out of the back of a building. Mumbo quickly ran out of the door, stuffing several jewelry pieces in his sleeves and hat. Raven and Beast Boy, the latter as a bird, quickly followed after him. Starfire got up and took flight to catch up to them. As they flew higher, Mumbo used his wand to create a carnival tent in the sky. Once he reached it, he jumped off of the card and ran in. The three teens entered and were surprised to see Mumbo calmly standing in the middle of the room.
"Come on kids, how about I make this a bit easier for you?" he asked, holding out his wand.
Beast Boy, as a tiger, snarled and charged at him. When he got close enough, he leaped in the air in an attempt to tackle the blue man.
BAM!
The green tiger had hit a seemingly invisible wall. With a whine, Beast Boy transformed back and slowly slid down the wall. Raven ran to his side as Starfire took note of her surroundings in the room. The changeling let out a groan, feeling a knot begin to form.
"Ohhh. I should've seen that coming."
"Friends, why do all of my reflections look so abnormally different?" questioned Starfire as she posed in the different mirrors.
Raven looked back at the wall Beast Boy had crashed into. Mumbo was no longer there, replaced by a weird reflection of her. "It's a house of mirrors Starfire," Raven said as she helped up Beast Boy. "Everything is an illusion here."
She turned to the way they entered only to discover it was gone. While they looked around the room, a mirror with a handle caught Raven's attention. She walked towards it and pulled on it, revealing it was a door. The corridor was dark, and no one could see through it. The group looked at each other and readied their abilities in case of an attack. Raven, with her hand surrounded by a black ball, cautiously walked through the door. When her entire body entered the supposed corridor, the door suddenly slammed shut. Beast Boy grabbed the handle and began yanking on it, but it wouldn't budge.
"Raven! Can you hear me?" Beast Boy yelled as he pounded on the door. Starfire grabbed the handle and ripped the door open with ease. Raven was nowhere to be found.
Beast Boy stuck his hand into the darkness, confirming it was just a closet. "But, where has she gone?" Starfire thought aloud. Instead of waiting for an answer, she charged up her starbolts and began to blast every mirror in her sight. The now broken mirrors had revealed curtains all around the room. In one corner, a curtain was moving.
They ran to it and whipped it open. Mumbo let out a scream and dropped several juggling balls. "Hey! You're not supposed to be back here! I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to escort you out."
With a snap of his fingers, the tent dissolved, leaving Beast Boy and Starfire descending to the ground. Starfire began levitating, and Beast Boy took the form of a pterodactyl.
The magician cushioned his fall with a mountain of stuffed bunnies and hurriedly climbed out of them. The amount of plushies slowed his escape down, allowing the two teenagers to catch up with him. They were all on the rooftops, jumping from building to building in the chase. At some point, Mumbo came to a dead end, facing the building's wire tower and the edge of the building. Thinking quickly, Mumbo disappeared, mere seconds from being apprehended by the pair. They looked up to see him standing on a pillar, smiling.
Mumbo waved his wand, and a door appeared right above them. Before they could react, Raven came spilling out, falling directly onto them. The three of them hit the ground with grunts, and the wind knocked out of them. Mumbo fiddled with the flower on his chest and pressed down on the center. Unexpectedly, gallons of water came shooting out, drenching the downed teens.
Once the water had died down, Mumbo adjusted his hat and used his wand to create a portal. "Well, folks, it's been fun. But I really must get going now. I have plenty more shows I need to give. Until next time, my titanimals!" With a wave, he jumped through the portal and closed it.
The Titans were still on the ground, soaked and coughing due to the amount of water they had unintentionally ingested.
"I would have rather stayed and cleaned that tower," Raven bit through gritted teeth.
The mind-numbing sound of vacuums was all that could be heard in the entryway. True to his word, Cyborg had quickly adapted some of his technology into cleaning machines over the past couple months. Several small devices climbed up and down the windows. On the back of them, two mop-like utensils sprouted and were used to wipe the windows. A small opening in the machine allowed water and other cleaning solutions to spray out.
Robin was vacuuming the small black couches, trying to get the tiniest pieces of dirt and food out of them. The stains present on the cushions were minimal and hard to see. He'd have to use another product to completely erase them. He finished the final couch and took a look around the room. The windows were smudgeless, and the walls had even gotten a fresh coat of paint. Another one of Cyborg's inventions helped with that.
Speaking of which, he turned to see his friend vacuuming the red carpet on the outskirts of the room. His eyes were focused solely on the task at hand and refused to acknowledge the other man in the room. Although, a few moments after Robin had finished, Cyborg had finished.
"Are you done?" Robin asked.
The cybernetic man was still not facing him. "Yeah," he responded in an icy tone.
"Yeah, me too." Okay, so he was still mad. Robin sighed with awkwardness as the mood in the room had not been any better. But he was willing to try to change it. "You did a good job on these inventions. They really helped speed things up around here."
There was a slight pause and then a "Thanks."
"Come on, we still have to do the basement, and then we're done."
Without a word, they picked up their supplies and ventured through the halls and toward the basement. Cyborg pressed the button to open the basement door. It slid open with an eerie creaking as cold air passed through. A chill ran up both their spines. Sure, they were much older now, yet their own basement had always been unsettling to travel through.
Robin reached for the light switch, illuminating the creepy room. Much better. They inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. They walked down the stairs and got to work. Although it was one of the least used rooms in the tower, it was rather tidy, only needing a bit of organization and dusting.
They got straight to work and began searching through boxes as Cyborg's inventions rolled around to clean the dust on the ground. Once again, a silence filled the room.
"Robin, I'm sorry," Cyborg conceded. Suddenly, the sound of shuffling came from behind them. They looked at each other, confirming neither of them made it.
The boy wonder responded, "I knew you'd come around. I think this is a new record for the fastest time you have ever apologized."
"I'm trying to be serious here." Cyborg knew he had a point. He certainly could hold grudges for a long time. "It's just…" He paused for a brief moment. "You know I just got back together with Sarah. We ended on a really bad note with the situation with Jinx."
"Starfire wouldn't stop talking about it for two weeks. I honestly think she was pissed that her playing Cupid was all for nothing. But the fact you dated a villain was also very disappointing for her."
Cyborg let out a chuckle. "Oh yeah. She wasn't the only one mad. Raven and Beast Boy kept side-eyeing me. Anyways, Sarah's about to go to college pretty soon, and it's not in the city." Something had then fallen behind them, alerting their suspicions.
"And you were trying to spend as much time as possible with her before she left?"
"Exactly. Like I said, I'm sorry man. I messed up before, and I don't want to lose her again. And while I let other people take care of my responsibilities, I've been taking up their own time. Especially you and Star's."
More clattering echoed in the room. "It's fine, Cy. I understand where you're coming from. I'd probably do the same thing for Starfire."
"Doesn't make it better."
"I know. And it's fine. Besides, me and Starfire have been able to spend more time together doing your chores. Kind of a win-win."
"Good to hear, but still. I can't let you guys keep doing that. I already talked to Sarah, and she said she understands. We'll find better times to hang out."
"Appreciate it. Are we cool now?" Robin held out his fist.
Cyborg walked over and dapped him. "You know it." Their attention was then turned to the recurring sound of shuffling, now accompanied by an animalistic sound.
"Now, how about we go see what animal has got into the tower this time," Robin suggested.
They quieted themselves to find where exactly the sound was coming from. Soon enough, they saw a pile of boxes in the corner moving. It became apparent that the sound wasn't anything natural. Growing concerned, they readied their weapons, fearful of what would be waiting for them. Cyborg reached for a box in the middle and looked at Robin. He nodded his head in response.
"Three, two, one," they chanted. As the tower of boxes collapsed, they braced themselves for something horrific to emerge. And what they found was horrifying.
A horrifyingly cute earthworm.
Both men instantly calmed down. Robin wiped the sweat off his head and laughed, "It's just Silkie." He picked up the frightened creature and rubbed his head. "Sorry about that, buddy. What are you doing down here?"
"That's the second time he's been down here. Starfire is gonna be livid," Cyborg warned him, amusement still apparent in his voice.
"That is if she finds out. Which she isn't. I'm going to take him back to her room, and then we'll finish cleaning up down here."
Cyborg picked up some of the fallen boxes. "I'll keep working then." With that, Robin began walking towards the stairs. "Oh yeah, grab some sodas while you're up there," Cyborg yelled.
The rest of the cleaning went smoothly after that. By the time the sun went down, they had finished cleaning the tower. They went upstairs and got on the GameStation while they waited for their friends to return.
Of course, with no deals being on the table.
Green sparks of energy rained down from the sky toward the blue madman. Mumbo ran through the outskirts of the now dimly lit city. He dodged Starfire's attacks, making her hit nearby objects and scorching them. Weirdly enough, it didn't seem she was trying to be accurate in her shots. He knew she certainly would have hit him by now due to their past encounters. If not, one of her friends would have done it.
Mumbo's eyebrow raised as he looked behind him. "Say, where are the other two?" he thought.
WHACK!
As if an answer to his question, a fist shrouded in dark energy collided hard with his face. The magician fell to the ground with a groan, grasping his long nose. He finally managed to open his eyes, only to see a green seal falling from the sky. He only managed to let out a gasp before the seal landed on his stomach. His slender body was crushed, and he struggled to catch his breath. Beast Boy shifted back into a human, picked up Mumbo's wand, and broke it. The blue man's skin returned to its natural beige color. His hat also exploded, emptying out all the stolen goods from throughout the day.
Beast Boy picked up the hat and placed it on his head. He cracked his knuckles and neck.
"Told you guys that plan would work," he bragged with a triumphant smile.
"Good for you," Raven responded as she crossed her arms and leaned against a wall.
Starfire carefully picked up the defeated man and said, "Friend Raven, you must admit it was quite a successful plan."
"It was thoughtful." Raven turned to Beast Boy. "Congratulations." She rolled her eyes and quickly looked away.
A slight pang of sadness went through the changeling, causing a quiet whine to escape him as he looked elsewhere. The empath's powers made her aware of the emotional change. She turned in the opposite direction of him, her eyes softening as guilt spread throughout her body.
Recognizing the tension between her friends, Starfire chirped, "Now that we have captured Mumbo, let us go to the police station so we can dry off at our home."
"Good call," Beast Boy mumbled. He transformed into a pelican and stuffed his mouth with some bags of stolen goods.
Raven used her telekinesis to grab the remaining bags and began to fly off, the other two following behind her.
"Hey! Be careful now, will you?" asked Mumbo as he had become aware of the height they were traveling at.
"Yes! Take that tin man!"
"Ha! You think that's gonna stop me?"
Cyborg and Robin were on the couch, aggressively mashing the controller buttons. They were playing an airplane racing game with Robin in the lead. Suddenly, the common room's doors opened, and the other three Titans walked in. The boys paused the game and turned to look at them.
"Damn, what happened to y'all?" Cyborg asked, pointing out their drenched uniforms.
A few stray feathers had also found themselves stuck to the fabrics. Not to mention, each of them had a few scratches on their bodies.
Starfire ran a finger through her damp hair and walked over to the couch. "Perhaps we underestimated Mumbo's abilities."
"Not a big threat, huh?" Robin teased.
Raven shot him a death glare. She silently walked to the kitchen and grabbed her tea kettle. Starfire and Beast Boy plopped down on the couch to watch the two boys resume their game.
"So, I'm guessing you two made up," Beast Boy questioned.
"Yup," the two other boys answered.
Starfire picked up Silkie and petted him. The worm let out happy gurgles and wiggled.
"And the tower does appear to be of the new brand," she admired, looking around at the room.
Cyborg smiled. "Thanks Star."
"We had a few interruptions," Robin started and looked at Silkie. "But, we got the job done."
Moments later, Raven joined her friends on the couch and sipped her tea.
"I'm surprised after all these years you two still act like children when you argue."
"Hey, I guess some things never change," Beast Boy replied, placing an arm on Raven's shoulders.
He moved his arms just as quickly as he had placed it when Raven growled at him. The other three laughed at the display.
"Tell you what, how about we watch a movie tonight, Titans?" Robin suggested. The team gave their own forms of agreements.
"Aight, before we do that…"
Cyborg looked at Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire.
"Y'all need to get y'alls butts off this couch and take a shower."
Authors Note:
If you somehow got through that, thanks for reading :)
The incident with Starfire that Madame Rouge refers to is actually a comic from the show's tie-in comics, Teen Titans Go!, not to be confused with the show. That story is in Issue 46. The Sarah that Cyborg refers to is Sarah Simms, who is actually his canonical girlfriend in the series, only making an appearance in the tie-in comics. Fun Fact: Cyborg technically cheated on her with Jinx while he was undercover at the HIVE. The Jinx situation is from Issue 27. DO BETTER CY! After breaking up, Cyborg and Sarah get back together in Issue 45. The This fanfic will refer to many scenes from those comics, so feel free to look online and read them.
I'm definitely new to this, so please tell me if you saw any mistakes. I tend to do this weird thing where I leave out words, so the sentence doesn't make sense when I'm rereading it. Also, let me know if there was any grammatical errors. Should I break up lines and paragraphs a bit more? Is there some type of format I should follow?
I tried to write everyone in character and I think I did decently. Still, many of the lines I wrote still felt weird and cringe to me. That might just be because I wrote it, so tell me your thoughts!
Anyway, I know this chapter was a bit boring. I have had this episode in limbo for YEARS because I didn't know how to write it. The next few episodes will also be a bit silly, but I promise you, darker episodes are coming soon.
This season will serve as Starfire's since she never had one to begin with. The ships of the team will include RobStar and BBRae. I'm trying to write the latter as a slow burn so there will be a lot of teasing. I am a bit worried though that I will have their relationship move too quickly and be out of character, especially if I do follow through on writing a Season 7 and 8.
Welp, let me know what you think.
