In Jon's room, Jon and Sansa are sitting by the fire eating together. Sansa lifts a bowl of soup to her lips and drinks from it.
Sansa asked Jon, "Do you remember those kidney pies Old Nan used to make?"
Jon said, "With the peas and onions?" She nodded.
Sansa said, "Mmm."
Jon said, "You know, we never should have left Winterfell."
Sansa said, "Don't you wish we could go back to the day we left? I want to scream at myself, 'Don't go, you idiot.'"
Jon said, "How could we know?"
Sansa said, "I spent a lot of time thinking about what an ass I was to you all those years ago. I wish I could change everything."
Jon said, "We were children."
Sansa said, "I was awful, just admit it." Jon chuckles.
Jon said, "You were occasionally awful. I'm sure I can't have been great fun. Always sulking in the corner while the rest of you played."
Sansa asked, "Can you forgive me?"
Jon said, "There's nothing to forgive."
Sansa asks, "Forgive me."
Jon says, "All right. All right, I forgive you." Sansa laughs, then holds out her hand for Jon's horn of ale. Jon gives it to her. She sips, then coughs. Jon laughs.
Jon said, "You'd think after thousands of years, the Night's Watch would have learned how to make a good ale."
Sansa grinned and asked, "Where will you go?"
Jon smiled and said, "Where will we go? If I don't watch over you, Father's ghost will come back and murder me. Besides, Aldarra gave me a threat that she would thrash me if I didn't realize that I am part of her group she calls family and I'm not allowed to be alone anymore."
Sansa asked, "That's Aldarra for you. Where will we go?"
Jon says, "I can't stay here, not after what happened."
Sansa said, "There's only one place we can go. Home."
Jon asked sarcastically, "Should we tell the Boltons to pack up and leave?"
Sansa said, "We'll take it back from them."
Jon said, "I don't have an army."
Sansa asked, "How many wildlings did you save?"
Jon said, "They didn't come here to serve me."
Sansa said, "They owe you their lives." Sansa stands and walks to a table. She places her bowl down on it.
Sansa said, "You think they'll be safe here if Roose Bolton remains Warden of the North?"
Jon said, "Sansa."
Sansa said, "Winterfell is our home. It's ours, Arya's, Bran's and Rickon's. Wherever they are, it belongs to our family. We have to fight for it."
Jon said sadly, "I'm tired of fighting." He stands and turns to face her.
Jon said, "It's all I've done since I left home. I've killed brothers of the Night's Watch. I've killed wildlings. I've killed men that I admire. I hanged a boy younger than Bran. I fought and I lost."
Sansa said, "If we don't take back the North, we'll never be safe. I want you to help me. But I'll do it myself if I have to with Aldarra, but I'd rather have you with me as my brother."

Melisandre was standing on a balcony looking out over the edge of the balcony. Davos approaches her
Davos said, "My lady."
She said, "Ser Davos."
Davos asked, "Are you staying here at Castle Black?"
She said, "I will do as Jon Snow commands."
Davos asked, "You serve Jon Snow now?"
She said, "He's the prince that was promised."
Davos said, "Forgive me, my lady, I thought that was supposed to be Stannis." She walks away from him and down into the courtyard. He follows her.
He asked, "What happened down there?"
She said, "When after the night there was no sacrifice, he went anyway undermanned into battle. Stannis was defeated." She continues to walk away, but he grabs her arm to stop her.
Davos said, "You were wrong about trying to do that to Shireen. I'm glad Aldarra stopped you. You were wrong."
Brienne approached them. She said, "I saw what happened. I saw Stannis' forces defeated in the field."
Davos said, "My lady, I'm Ser Davos Seaworth."
Brienne said, "We've met before. I was Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon. Before Renly was assassinated with blood magic." Brienne stares at Melisandre.
Davos said, "That's in the past now."
Brienne said, "Yes, it's in the past. It doesn't mean I forget. Or forgive. He admitted it, you know."
Davos asked, "Who did?"
Brienne said, "Stannis. Just before I executed him." She walks away. Melisandre walks in the opposite direction. Davos stares at Brienne.
—--
In Castle Black's courtyard, one of the Night Watch brothers shouts, "Open the gate!" The gate opens and a knight from the Bolton family enters.
—--
Sansa, Aldarra with her baby, Shireen, Davos, Jon, Brienne, Tormund, Dolorous Edd, Tyrion, Shae, Jorah, and Barristan are all eating at a table. Sansa looks at the meat on her fork. Jon, Dolorous Edd, and Tormund eat vigorously. Brienne looks around at the men eating. Tormund stares intently at Brienne. She looks away. Tormund smiles. Dolorous Edd notices their interaction.
Dolorous Edd said to Sansa, "Sorry about the food. It's not what we're known for."
Sansa said, "That's all right. There are more important things." A Night's Watchman enters the room and holds out a scroll to Jon.
He says, "A letter for you, Lord Commander."
Jon said, "I'm not Lord Commander anymore." Jon takes the letter. The man leaves. Jon sees the seal of House Bolton. He opens the scroll and starts reading.
Jon says out loud to everyone, "To the traitor and bastard Jon Snow. You allowed thousands of wildlings past the Wall. You have betrayed your own kind. You have betrayed the North. Winterfell is mine, bastard. Come and see. Your brother Rickon is in my dungeon." Jon looks at Sansa.
Jon clears his throat and continues, "His direwolf's skin is on my floor. Come and see. I want my promised bride to be delivered to me, Lady Sansa Stark. Send her to me, bastard, and I will not trouble you or your wildling lovers. Keep her from me and I will ride north and slaughter every wildling man, woman, and babe living under your protection. You will watch as I skin them alive. You –"
Sansa said, "Go on."
Jon said, "It's just more of the same." Jon puts the letter away, but Sansa takes it and continues reading.
Sansa says, "You will watch as my soldiers take turns raping your sister. You will watch as my dogs eat your wild little brother. Then I will spoon your eyes from their sockets and let my dogs do the rest to you. Come and see. Ramsay Bolton, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North."
Jon muttered, "Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North."
Aldarra growled and said, "All thanks to Tywin. If it's not Roose Bolton, then it means his bastard that must have been instated as a full Bolton by Joffrey back then, killed his father to take the title. I heard rumors about his bastard as a cruel torturing cunt. Who the fuck does the cunt think he is talking about taking Sansa as his bride? Over my dead fucking body he will."
Brienne said, "Mine too."
Jon said, "Mine too."
Sansa said, "And now he has Rickon."
Jon said, "We don't know that."
Sansa said, "Yes, we do or he wouldn't use it as leverage."
Tormund asked, "How many men does he have in his army?"
Davos said, "I heard 5,000 once when Stannis was talking about the attack."
Jon asked Tormund, "How many do you have?"
Tormund said, "That can march and fight? 2,000. The rest are children and old people."
Aldarra said, "I have 70 soldiers."
Sansa said to Jon, "You're the son of the last true Warden of the North. Northern families are loyal. They'll fight for you if you ask." Sansa takes Jon's hand.
Sansa said, "A monster has taken our home and our brother. We have to go back to Winterfell and save them both." He nods.
—--
In the dining hall, Jon, Sansa, Aldarra, Tyrion, Jorah, Barristan, Davos, Brienne, Dolorous Edd, Tormund, and Melisandre are gathered around a table. A map is spread out on the table with tokens indicating houses laid on its surface.
Jon said, "We can't defend the north from the Walkers and the south from the Boltons. If we want to survive, we need Winterfell, and to take Winterfell, we need more men."
Davos said, "Aside from the Starks and the Boltons, the most powerful houses in the North are the Umbers, the Karstarks, and the Manderlys." Davos stands and moves some of the tokens to Winterfell.
Davos says, "The Umbers and the Karstarks have already declared for the Boltons, so we're not doing so well there."
Sansa said, "The Umbers gave Rickon to our enemies. They can hang. But the Karstarks declared for Ramsay without knowing they had another choice."
Tyrion said, "I beg your pardon, my lady, but they know that Robb Stark beheaded their father. I don't think you can count on them either."
Sansa asked, "How well do you know the North, Ser Davos?"
Davos said, "Precious little, my lady."
Sansa said, "My father always said Northerners are different. More loyal, more suspicious of outsiders."
Aldarra said, "I can agree with that. I wandered for years from north to south and east to west, and it's true that they are more suspicious of outsiders."
Davos said, "They may well be loyal, but how many rose up against the Boltons when they betrayed your family? I may not know the North, but I know men. They're more or less the same in any corner of the world and even the bravest of them don't want to see their wives and children skinned for a lost cause. If Jon's going to convince them to fight alongside him, they need to believe it's a fight they can win."
Jon said, "There are more than three other houses in the North: Glover, Mormont, Cerwyn, Mazin, Hornwood. Two dozen more. Together they equal all the others. We can start small and build."
Sansa said, "The North remembers. They remember the Stark name. People will still risk everything for it, from White Harbor to Ramsay's own door."
Davos said, "I don't doubt it. But Jon doesn't have the Stark name."
Sansa said, "No, but I do." Jon stares at Sansa.
Sansa said, "Jon is every bit as much Ned Stark's son as Ramsay is Roose Bolton's. And there are also the Tullys. They're not Northern, but they will back us against the Boltons without question."
Davos said, "I didn't know the Tullys still had an army?"
Aldarra said, "Your uncle the Blackfish has reformed it and retaken Riverrun."
Jon asks, "How do you know that?"
Aldarra said, "I have a very loyal friend I made when I left King's Landing that has been feeding me information since we all left. I have been receiving ravens here too ya know as well as when I was in Norvos?"
Davos smiled at Aldarra and said, "That's good. The Blackfish is a legend. His support would mean a great deal. Stark, Tully, a few more houses, almost starts to look like a winning side." Sansa smiles.
Aldarra said, "Needless to say to all of you. We have three dragons, but I can only fly one and that can smoke an entire field of an army alone. It's kind of a sure winning weapon if I can reduce their numbers. I just can't guarantee if a siege occurs because we certainly don't burn down castles and keeps. Kind of like I'm a foot in their arse with a side twist." Everyone started laughing at her.
—--
On a balcony, Brienne follows Sansa down the stairs and along a walkway.
Brienne says, "I've sworn to protect you, my lady."
Sansa said, "You heard them. We need more men and my uncle has an army."
Brienne said, "We can send the Blackfish a raven."
Sansa said, "Can't risk Ramsay intercepting it. It has to be you." Brienne and Sansa enter Sansa's chamber. Brienne closes the door behind them.
Sansa said, "Ride for Riverrun. My uncle will talk to you and you'll know how to talk to him." Sansa sits down on her bed.
Sansa said, "What is it?"
Brienne said, "I don't like leaving you here alone."
Sansa said, "With Jon and Aldarra?"
Brienne said, "Not him. He seems trustworthy. A bit brooding, perhaps. I suppose that's understandable, considering. The others, though. Davos and the red woman helped a man murder his own brother with blood magic. And when Stannis paid for his crime, where were they? Already out looking for a leader with better prospects. And that wildling fellow with the beard –"
Sansa said, "Jon isn't Tormund. Jon isn't Davos, the Red Woman, or Stannis for that matter. Jon is Jon. He's my brother. He'll keep me safe. I trust him. As far as Aldarra is concerned, she I trust with everything I am. She has been my older sister even if not by blood. She has seventy two men sworn to her."
Brienne asked, "Then why does she have Stannis' daughter as her own with that man Davos?"
Sansa said, "Why didn't you go ask her why? She saved that little girl from Stannis burning his own daughter alive at the stake. He knew Davos would interfere and sent him away back here. Aldarra went there and rescued her because Davos found out their intentions the day before they left to march to Winterfell. Aldarra has been working on helping that child who Davos also loves. That's why she has Stannis' Hand and his daughter at her side. She is the most honorable woman I have ever known. I thank the gods she saved me and have loved and protected me since King's Landing."
Brienne said sorrowfully, "I may have misjudged her intentions."
Sansa said, "You truly have. She's strong, a woman you can trust at her word. She has proven herself time and again with me and our friends."
