Chapter 1:Welcome To Ninjago
It's the crack of dawn in Ninjago, songbirds are singing there song, pedestrians walking down the street to the Café or who knows were else, Buses driving down the streets to get to school. In Ninjago there are two types of species: Humans and Shadowbanes, Shadowbanes are creatures that can take on supernatural and monstrous abilities. Along time ago there was a town called Stiix which was the home to Shadowbanes, everything was fine until Humans came in and kicked them out and killed some of them, now all the Shadowbanes who were kicked out live around the world.
In an apartment near the café, alarm clocks are ringing which a normal human would not live through, but since this kid is a Shadowbane he's different, all shadowbane's have different abilities like for example enhanced or diminished hearing. Alarm clocks are still ringing that a girl roughly the same age who has light skin that makes her shine in the light, cold icy blue eyes, snowy white hair in several braided curls with a light green streak in her hair, Wearing a powder blue and white blouse, green joggers, white loafers, two silver bracelets with glimmering diamonds around the rim of the bracelet. With a peaceful smile expression resting on her face that makes look very innocent. "Wake up Jay, mom has been calling you for 10 minutes, and you need to get up or else we'll be late for our first day" the girl said, But the boy didn't wake up "Ugh, curse your diminished hearing" the girl mumbled, the girl sighs "Sorry Jay, I didn't want to do this" the girl said. The girl screams so loudly that people on the other side of town could hear, with a jolt the boy who's name is Jay wakes up, "Ugh Meryl, why'd you do that" Jay exclaimed. "Well sorry, but you weren't waking up, and we're starting high school today" Meryl explained. Jay groans, "Anyways you need to get ready in fifteen minutes, so we can leave for school, besides you look terrible" Meryl chuckled. "Why you little-" Jay grumbled, but Meryl was already halfway down the hall. Jay grumbled, but reluctantly got out of bed, his tan skin is glimmering ,his reddish brown hair is messy he's wearing a white pajama shirt with a grey picture from his favorite horror movie 'Shadow Keep', tan pajama pants and white socks.
After showering, brushing his teeth and getting dressed, now wearing a white t-shirt with a golden symbol (羊) on the middle, a light blue puffer vest, a sapphire pendant, brown khakis, and orange crocs with black striped socks. Walking downstairs he see's his mother with skin as cold as ice, blond hair tied into a bun with chopsticks in her hair, a blue sweater, Capri pants, a hand woven blue scarf with diamond design, and glasses that seemed like they were gleaming into your soul (literally). "Jay, honey, you need to be in more control of your abilities you need to eat, can't have you go to your first day at your new school on an empty stomach, now can I" Jay's mother who's name was Lisbeth by the way. "Sorry, I just don't think this was a good idea, you know moving" Jay states. Lisbeth looks concerned "I know Jay, but I didn't have a choice, I know this is hard for you, but you have to" Lisbeth reassures her son. Jay takes a bite out of his cereal, "I know Mom, it's just the fact that it's a human school just worries me" Jay replied. "You being worried, that's a first" Meryl says jokingly, "Meryl, your brother's going through a lot" Lisbeth scolded, "Fine, I'm heading to school now, bye Mom, bye Jay" Meryl says then exits the room by phasing through the door. "She needs to stop using her abilities and so do you Jay, remember we don't want another incident" Lisbeth chided. "Yeah, sure that was one time, and in the other apartment" Jay mumbled, "You know we had no choice, no one can know who we really are" Lisbeth chided. "Really, what about Ed and Edna they know don't they, and back then we were proud of who we are, now we have to hide who we are". "That's not what I said, sure I didn't expect for Ed and Edna to find out, but that strengthened our bond with them right" Lisbeth said, "Besides I don't want anything to happen to you Jay, you or Meryl, you're all I have left" Lisbeth continues with concern in her finishes his cereal, places it in the sink, grabs his blue blazing design skateboard and walks to the door "I know mom" Jay said leaving the apartment.
On his skateboard Jay makes his way to school, also wearing wrist guards, shoulder pads and knee pads, and a blue skull helmet. Meanwhile on the school bus that's also heading to the school, on the bus there is another pair of siblings Kai and Nya Smith who are also Shadowbane, but from Ninjago unlike Jay, Kai is wearing a white muscle shirt, a red jacket and black jeans, with his smoky brown hair always grasping someone's attention. Nya on the other hand had black hair in a ponytail, a blue tank top, a white cardigan ,grey chinos, and sapphire earrings. Nya is on her phone messaging her friend Harumi, while Kai was listening to some of his friend's Cole' music. 'So, you aren't dating Chad anymore' Nya types, 'No, that guy was never around and he was always rude to you and I couldn't stand for that' Harumi responded, 'Thanks girl can't wait to see you at school' Nya responded, 'Me neither' Harumi responded back. Nya turned off her phone and Kai was looking at her like 'wow, Nya, wow'. "What" Nya asked, "Why do you still hangout with Harumi" Kai asks, "Why do you still hang out with Chad" Nya returns. "Cause he's awesome, Harumi isn't" Kai replied, "Harumi's been my friend since we were in kindergarten" Nya said shocked at her brother's response. "Have you told her of your abilities" Kai said waiting for Nya to respond, she didn't "Like I thought" Kai said casually. "It's difficult you know Mom and Dad would freak out if they found out someone found out, we would move, and let's be real that can't happen" Nya decided. "Whatever" Kai said continuing listening to his friend's tunes, "Yeah, sure" Nya grumbled.
At school Kai immediately ran to meet up with his friend, while Nya stayed waiting for Harumi and Pixal, while waiting she spots 'Jay' on his skateboard. But the next thing she knows, all of the skateboard equipment disappears into a blue mist and enters Jay's pendant, shocked Nya called out "Hey, you kid in the puffed vest, come here" But he ignores her like he couldn't hear her. "Hey, didn't you hear me" Nya yells, Harumi arrives in her Limo, her blond hair is in a bun, she has green eyeshadow and dazzling green eyes, wearing a white shirt, green jacket, and green cargos, high heels, and an emerald bracelet. "Hey, Nya who are you talking to" Harumi asks, "Nothing Rumi, I just saw something, it doesn't matter" Nya answers. Pixal arrives at the school looking for her friends, she's wearing a purple shirt and a purple skirt, silver boots, and her grey hair is tied in a ponytail. Pixal notices Harumi and Nya, "Hey Girls" Pixal exclaimed, "Hey, Pix" Harumi and Nya says. "I can't wait for the school year" Pixal says ecstatically, "Yeah summer wasn't as fun since my family went to Djinjago for my father's business" Harumi said sadly, "Yeah, wait Pixal where were you I tried texting you, but you never picked up" Nya asks, Pixal stammers "Oh, right my father Cyrus and I visited Crystal Lake College which has this big science program, my father's planning for me too apply there" Pixal said, "I thought we all agreed to go to Johnson University" Nya said shockingly, Harumi looked saddened "Yeah about that Nya, my father's forcing me to go to Djinjago University, so I wouldn't be able to go too Johnson U either" Harumi says. Nya's shocked at this that both of her childhood friends are moving to bigger colleges and Universities than what they picked together. Harumi sees that Nya isn't taking this news well, Harumi knew she wasn't going to be able to go to Johnson as her father has already decided her future since she was in 5th grade. "Nya don't worry we'll still keep in touch, I know it wasn't what we decided, but we still have a few more years together" Harumi promises, she didn't dare speak that she was on board with her father's decision since that would break Nya more, so she kept it a secret.
Nya, Pixal, and Harumi entered the room and as they did the speaker went on: Attention all students please make your way to the Gymnasium for an assembly, we can't wait for a new year here at Ninjago High to begin. "Well see ya girls" Harumi said as she ran off, Pixal and Nya chased after her. They ran into the Gym and Nya immediately noticed 'Jay' by himself, but no one seemed to pay him any attention and then she saw it one kid walked behind him and then right through him like he was a ghost. Nya thinks that "Well, that does make sense he is a Shadowbane after all, but I have never seen one to act like a ghost before" Nya finishes her thought and she notices that 'Jay' has left, shocked she looks around then she spotted him exiting the gym, curious she goes after him until she's stopped by Harumi "Hey, where are you going the assembly is about to start" Harumi cautiously said, "Uhm, I know it's just I have to meet someone" Nya said running off into the direction of 'Jay'. As she ran out of the gym she looks for 'Jay' she knows who he is and she wants to help him, she can tell he isn't comfortable around humans with her empathy skills. She grabs a map from the desk in the foyer since they hand out maps to new students she does remember seeing this kid at orientation, except he was never seen throughout the day so she was already suspicious of him, she starts looking around the hall when both Pixal and Harumi appear out of know where "Nya what are you doing" Pixal shrieked, "Oh hey girls I told you I need to meet someone" Nya said calmly even though she wasn't, she needed to meet this kid no matter what besides she could hear the assembly half way across the school thanks to enhanced hearing, but then again Harumi and Pixal couldn't know she was a Shadowbane even though she lived with them almost her entire life she still couldn't tell them who she was. "Well, you can't go around the school without me" Harumi said, "Yeah" Pixal agreed, "Wait what" Nya was shocked at her friends reactions, but she couldn't care less she needed to meet this kid. "Okay, so what's the plan Nya, you always come up with the best ones" Harumi stated. "Well I think we should split up to cover more ground, the school is very big and he could be anywhere" Nya said. Harumi and Pixal agreed, Harumi took left, Pixal took right and Nya went straight even though she could sense where he is if he was right about him.
Nya walked a bit until she was in front of the science room, "Why would he be in a science room" Nya wondered, but it didn't matter she entered the science room to see what he was doing he was working on some sort of machine that looked like a radar with two antennas that produced a green electrical charge, two green screens one had a meter that would go into either red or green depending on what it was, the either showed some kind of heart rate line which confused Nya, but she didn't care. "That's a cool gadget what is it" Nya asked, the boy stopped shocked, turned and glared at Jay, but shocked. "It's not important" the boy said, "Okay, I was just wondering" Nya responded "Why are you in here, not in the gym" Nya asked. "That depends, what are you doing here and not in the gym" the boy said back. Nya knows this kid is similar as her since they're both shadowbane's, but now that she was almost there she didn't want to push it, that's the thing with Nya she gets so close to getting what she wants and when she gets there she stops herself. Like he was reading her thoughts he said "Your like me aren't you, a Shadowbane" the boy asks. Nya's shocked that he also Telepathy, but then again Shadowbane's have multiple abilities and aren't exclusive to one Shadowbane. "So you also have telepathy" Nya says realizing she sounded stupid, "Sorry" she quickly says. "It's alright, I don't really care that much of my abilities" the kid says. "So are you new, I haven't seen you before well except for orientation" Nya says. The kid sighs "Yeah, I'm originally from the town of Stiix, but something happened that caused me to leave and now I'm here" 'Jay' says. "Yeah, don't tell her the full story bro" some girl says that seemed to know Jay. "Meryl, what are you doing here" the kid says, "Well aren't you supposed to be in the Gym Jay, and don't talk to a human about things, I thought you didn't like humans" the girl named Meryl who is supposedly this kids sister most likely his twin. Nya was about to say something to her ,but the guy named Jay beat her to it "She's not a human she's one of us a Shadowbane like us, but mainly lived in the city unlike us" Jay says. Meryl doesn't look convinced so Nya decides to show it by lifting a box in the air with her telekinesis.
Meryl is shocked and a silent agreement between her and Jay, "Well then" Meryl says then leaves the room. "Sorry about my sister, she can be a bit curious and intrusive, I can see why her animal is the cat" Jay says, Nya chuckles "I have my fair share of annoying siblings, I should introduce you to my brother sometime". Jay is still fumbling with his gadget that Nya completely forgot about and she immediately turned her attention to the gadget, Jay notices Nya is eyeing his gadget "Oh, this it isn't that important, but if your wondering what it is it's a radar I invented about a month ago that can detect some sort of magical energy" Jay explains. Nya's completely interested, but wonders why he would invent such thing. Harumi and Pixal somehow appear at the door with a teacher, but when the teacher sees what's going on she's mad saying "What did you think we were doing you missed a majority of the assembly, luckily we don't hand out detention until a student ha caused three or more problems, so just a warning for all of you okay" the teacher chided and left, and Harumi isn't happy, but it subsides and leaves, Pixal follows her leaving the two Shadowbanes. "Those your friends right" Jay asks, Nya nods "Yeah they're cool obviously we're on different terms of the school spectrum Pixal's the smart one, I'm the cool one and Rumi's the Popular and Rich one, we were planning on going to the same college, but there parents had different plans, but we talked about it" Nya says. "Uhm we should probably go to our first class, the assembly's over I can hear them finishing, what do you have first" Jay asks, "Uhm, let me take out my schedule" Nya says taking out her schedule "History". "Huh, Me too, I'll see you in class" Jay says, "Sure" Nya says and Jay leaves and she does too.
In History class while the kids are waiting for there teacher to show up Jay and Nya finally appearing, Now there were only two seats in the class left in the middle so Jay and Nya sit down at there seats and it got awkward immediately all the students except for Harumi who was also in that class. All the students glare at them and talk to there friends, at this moment the teacher appears and she looks like she was rushing like she was halfway across the school. She was a beautiful woman probably in her early 40's, light skin like powdered snow, light brown hair in a frizzled bun, a grey polo shirt, a tan skirt, black leggings, white socks, grey shoes, and a watch pinned on her polo. When she glances over the entire class she immediately glares at both Jay and Nya for some reason, at that moment Jay noticed that she looked familiar and realizes that she was the teacher who scolded him, Nya, Harumi, and, Pixal. "Okay class, welcome to history I'm your teacher Ms. Mallard" Ms. Mallard starts then a student makes a raspberry noise which irritates Ms. Mallard, Jay looks over and notices the kid who did it the kid had brown hair, a blue jacket, jeans, and black sneakers. Looks over and notices Jay looking at him "What are you staring at creep" the boy says, "Chad, go to the principle office I have no time for your behavior" Ms. Mallard says. Chad tries to defend himself, but isn't successful so he reluctantly gets up to the principle office, he glances at Jay, but doesn't give him a second thought and just leaves. "Sorry about that I've had Chad last year, and he usually does this stuff" Ms. Mallard reassures, she's still glaring at Jay for some reason, but continues with the lesson nonetheless, Chad returns to his seat and tries really hard to do his work like he failed History last year and Jay couldn't help feel bad for him, but kept on doing his work. The next class which was Math was much more simpler to deal with since Chad wasn't in it and no one that Jay met in the last few hours was there either.
At lunch Jay sat by himself since he didn't feel like he belonged he saw Nya, Pixal, and Harumi sit together, Chad and to other guys, one had brown hair and was wearing red, the other had silky black hair in a hair bun, a black tank top with a quote from a song, ripped jeans, and sneakers. Jay just sat alone at his own table invisible and no one sat at his table since no one else could see the table. Jay spotted Meryl right away at a table with a lot of new friends she met in her classes. Two kids were also alone, one had white hair, a blue sweater, cargos, tennis shoes, and a silver mechanical bracelet that had a lot of buttons and screens, the other kid had wavy blond hair, a green hoodie with the hood up, green pants, and green shoes. Jay wanted this the day to be over when all of a sudden his radar that he made was beeping since the invisible shield was also sound negated no one could hear him so he didn't have to worry. He took out the radar and saw that the little lever was leaning in the red side which in this case meant positive of mystical energy, the green meant positive of no mystical energy. The green electrical charge showed up and so did the line that showed how much energy it was and it was pointing at the door so he got up and left the cafeteria. Nya glances at the table that Jay was sitting at, and since she can see through invisible shields she knew that Jay was sitting there, but when she looked over he was gone "Uhm, Girls I need to go to the bathroom" Nya said, Pixal and Harumi didn't mind and when Nya left they continued there conversation. Nya wasn't apart of the conversation so she knew she wasn't missing much. She wondered why she cared what Jay was doing since it wasn't her business, when she realized that Jay's bag was open and that radar was missing, she went back to her table.
Meanwhile out in the hall Jay was following his radar which led him to the trophy cabinet. Jay was wondering what was so mystical about trophies, medals, and awards, but quickly noticed that one of the awards looked familiar, the one that had an education cap on the top pf a black polished pillar. Jay saw that that award contained some mystical energy, so his instincts came in, he phased through the glass, grabbed the award and tried to take it out of the glass, when he remembered he could only phase himself through walls, not anything else or anyone else. Meryl did have that ability, but didn't want to ask her for help, especially since she was with her friends. Nya could be willing to help, but wasn't sure if Nya had that ability and she was also with her friends. So Jay just left and made sure that the award was in the right place, so no one knew it was tampered with, unfortunately someone already did.
After school was over Jay walked to behind the school to craft his skateboard equipment. Once he finished he started on his way home when someone was running up to him. He first thought it was Meryl, but when she got closer, he realized it was Nya, then he remembered that Meryl has already left the school grounds like 5 minutes ago, and she would never meet up with Jay. "What did you do at lunch" Nya asked almost out of breath, "Uhm, what do you mean" Jay says hoping to past suspicion which he quickly realized had no point since Nya most likely already knew he left the cafeteria. He knows there's no way out of this so "Oh, nothing, it's just that my radar went off so I went to check what it was, apparently the academic award has some mystical energy, I still haven't figured it out" Jay explains, Nya looks like she was going to say something, but is cut off as some guy probably older then them walks up to them and calls out "Hey, Nya come on we need to head on home" the guy says, Jay can't help, but shake off the feeling that this guy looks familiar, then it hits him this guy is one of Chad's friends, and is most likely Nya's brother since he clearly knows Nya. "Oh, and who is this guy your talking to, your boyfriend" Kai jokes. "Kai" Nya exclaims and whacks Kai with her bag "He's not my boyfriend we just met today" Nya chided. "Oh, okay, wait I know you, Chad told me about you, now stay away from my sister, creep" Kai scowls. "Kai, that's not nice you just met him, and besides don't listen to Chad" Nya chided. "Sorry, but don't tell him anything" Kai says, "Why, he's like us and besides I didn't tell him that much" Nya scowled. Kai glances over at Jay "Is that true are you like us a Shadowbane" Kai whispers, Jay nods "See, now let's go, mom and dad will be worried if we miss the bus" Nya says grabbing Kai's arm and drags Kai to there bus, Kai's about to say something in protest, but Nya pushes him onto there bus. Jay shakes his head as he starts on his way to his house, thinking about what happened like with the award having some sort of mystical energy within it, he just couldn't put a finger on it, As he arrived at his apartment he took a deep breath and went in.
At dinner they were having Lasagna, one of Jay's many favorites (specifically Zucchini Lasagna), Jay must've been picking at his food, since Lisbeth kept on glancing over at Jay and tugging at her scarf, a nervous habit she had whenever something worried her regarding her children "What, is it" Jay grumbles, Lisbeth looks concerned "Oh nothing just uhm you haven't touched your food" Lisbeth said almost immediately, "You're doing it again" Jay replies, "What" Lisbeth said, "Your nervous habit whenever something worries you" Jay says. Lisbeth realizes she had to approach this differently, ever since Jay had came home something must've shook him at school since he frantically went to his room. "Uhm, fine, look Jay I can sense that something's bothering you noticed since you got home, I haven't got a chance to talk to you about it since you went up to your room" Lisbeth said. "Probably something about his gadgets and science stuff, I've been noticing them in his room" Meryl chimed in. "Why you little, how many times have I told you to stay out of my room" Jay grumbles annoyed. Meryl mutters something under her breath and went back to eating her food, "Meryl Annette Gordon, you need to stay away from Jay's stuff alright" Lisbeth chided, Meryl nods reluctantly. "Now Jay, uhm I won't force anything out of you, but I do advise that you should tell me the truth, look I know this move has been hard for you especially what happened back then" Lisbeth said, Jay and Lisbeth knew that what had happened back when they were kicked out of Stiix was a hard subject for both Lisbeth and Jay so they never brought it up. Jay sighs "Alright uhm nothing's really wrong I just worry easily, uhm I guess I was shocked to find out there were other Shadowbane's at our school" Jay says he kept the mystical award out of it as he wasn't ready to tell her about that. "I see, yeah I forgot to tell you that that's to be expected, since Shadowbane's also live here, are you sure that's it" Lisbeth asked again concerned. "Yeah, totally, uhm I'm going to turn in, alright" Jay says, "Sure, just don't go on silent mode tonight okay" Lisbeth said. "Yeah" Jay says as he goes upstairs and phases into his room.
As Jay enters his room he immediately pulls out his laptop and begins scanning the picture he took of the award so he could research about the material it was made out of since he was sure that the award had a mystical energy, as the scan finished thanks to Jay's acceleration he finds out that the award is made out of Umbrasite a mineral from Stiix, that explains why it felt familiar, but not why it had mystical energy since Umbrasite isn't known for this mystical energy charge. He decided he was going to sleep on it and research about it tomorrow, he put's his stuff away and goes to his bed. Apparently there was someone gleaming outside Jay's window and as the window opens we see that it's…Ms. Mallard?
