"Sometimes there are problems, even among the Freedom Fighters, and Robotnik is always ready to exploit them." Aleena said.

"And in 3, 2, 1...!" Sonia said but nothing happened. "Huh?"

"Are you sure you activated those fuses?" Manic asked.

"Ah!"

"Hmm, I can't remember. Do you want me to go back and check?" Sonic asked.

"Haha, yeah! You do that."

"Nice work guys!" Sonia said.

"Yeah!" Sonic and Manic said.

"SWATbots! Let's jam!" Sonic said. "Are we good, or are we good?"

"Oh, we're good!" Manic said.

"Are your arms getting tired from all that congratulating?" Sonia asked.

"No." Sonic said.

"Nah, never tired, no, oh no…" Manic said.

"Wait, the pebbles! They've been moved." Sonia said.

"So somebody's been here."

"Or still is…" Sonic said.

"A note!" Sonia said and picked up the letter. "From Mother!" she said and read it. "Robotnik's building a hydroelectric dam in southern Mobius, and he's getting away with it because of a feud between the Freedom Fighters in the mountains and the valley. If they don't join forces to stop him, the whole area will be destroyed! Mother wants us to go make peace between them."

"I forget how beautiful it can be away from Robotropolis." Manic said.

"Not for long if Robuttnik..." she said, yawned and stretched. "gets his way."

"Well, he won't. We'll see to that." Sonic said.

"Heads up! Trouble!" Manic said.

"Chill out, the good guys have arrived."

"You just turn around and tell your boss we ain't lettin' no more of you polecats in here." Zeb said.

"Huh?"

"No really, we're-" Sonia started but was cut off.

"Robotnik's goons, come to finish the dam." Zeb said and she gasped.

"Ugh!"

"Yo bud, you got it all wrong." Sonic said.

"We're the Sonic Underground." Manic said.

"Huh?" Zeb asked.

"And she's Sonic."

"Well if you're the real Sonic, you'd almost be able to keep up with Jarod here. He's the fastest boy in these here parts!"

"How about a little race?" Sonic asked.

"Race to that there pine nut tree and back. And grab a pinecone while you're there, too. We'll see if'n you're the real Sonic!"

"Don't mind Zeb. Good luck!" Jarod said.

"Go!" Zeb said and Sonic sniffed.

"Ah, kickin' scent!" she said.

"I guess your friend's afraid to run against Jarod, hmm?" he said and she sniffed and sighed.

"Uh, Sonic. The race?" Manic said.

"No biggie, bro." Sonic said.

"What the heck?" Zeb said.

"Psst!"

"I ain't never seen nothin' like that before!" he said and Jarod panted. "You're the real McCoy, all right!"

"Real pleased to meet ya, Sonic!" Jarod said and Sonia cleared her throat.

"Huh?" Sonic and Jarod said.

"If the Sonic fan club can adjourn, we've got a dam to dump." Sonia said.

"Right, sis! Let's scan, then plan." Sonic said.

"I'll show y'all around. You don't want to run into any robot patrols or mountain folk." Jarod said.

"Ooh..." Sleet said. "What have we here? This is it! Our chance to get big money from Robotnik." he said looking at a monitor.

"Oh, I'll go get him." Dongo said.

"No! Not yet."

"But you just said-"

"Listen. First we nab the hedgehogs and hide them. Then we tell Robotnik, and make him pay a lot of money!"

"Retire?"

"Yes, retire. You can spend the rest of your life, waiting on me hand and foot!"

"Oh, boy! Wow! Thanks!"

"So, you valley dudes used to be buds with the mountain dudes, eh?" Manic said.

"Yep." Jarod said.

"And you said this feud started because of our mother?" Sonia said.

"Yep. Way it happened was when your ma visited here. She gave us these purty medallions so's we could always prove the land was ours. We was havin' a big time hoedown. The mountain folks lost their medallion!"

"You took it." Granny said.

"No I didn't!" Zeb said.

"They said us valley folks took it, so we could steal their land, and they swore they wouldn't play another lick o' music 'til we give it back…" Jarod said.

Granny blew raspberry.

"...but we didn't take it!" he said. "Shhh. Quiet now." he said and pointed at the dam. "There it is!"

"Let's see what that bot's made of." Sonic said and threw rocks at the robot, which quickly zapped them. "Whoa!"

"Double whoa!" Manic said.

"We're going to need a little help with this one. Can you take us to the mountain folks?" Sonia said.

"I can take you most of the way. But, we ain't really welcome up there." Jarod said. "Just follow that path."

"Thanks, bud!" Sonic said.

"Yo, these mountain dudes better wise up and see how bad it'll be when Buttnik's dam gets built!" Manic said.

Then Sonic gasped and hid in a bush.

"Shhh!" she said and he gasped. "Whoever it is, I'll grab 'em." she said and ran out of the bush. "Huh?" she said and saw a girl. "Whoooaa!" she said and tripped. "Oof!"

"Oh!" Serro said.

"Huh?"

"Cool, man, very cool!" Manic said.

"I meant to do that."

"You must be them Freedom Fighters come to help Jaro- um, the valley folks stop the dam." Serro said.

"Right on the first guess!"

"I'm Serro. Nobody does nothin' up here without talkin' to Granny first. I'll take you to her."

"How'd she know who we were?" Sonia asked.

"So if Buttnik takes the valley, your land is next!" Sonic said.

"I don't care. Long as them valley folks is gone!" Granny said.

"But when they're gone, it'll be too late." Manic said.

"Granny, we used to work together with 'em. We can do it again!" Serro said.

"Don't see how. Them valley folks stole our medallion!" Granny said.

"You'll lose a lot more if you don't join forces with the valley folk." Sonia said.

"Whatcha mean?"

"If you don't help us destroy the dam, this whole area will be underwater, including your place!"

"That so? Well," Granny said and sighed. "I guess talkin' with them varmints couldn't hurt. But I ain't makin' up!"

"It's settled then? You'll work together until the dam is down?" Sonic asked.

"I reckon so. We'll try it, but no promises!"

"Thank goodness." Serro said.

"You and that valley boy? Ain't no way! I knew somethin' funny was goin' on. The deal's off!"

"Oh no!"

"Stop! Oh, this is mondo uncool!" Sonic said.

"Mondo? What in tarnation is "mondo"?" Zeb asked.

"He means fighting's not the way to settle this." Sonia said.

"I do?" Sonic said and thought about it. "Oh yeah, I do!" She said and Sonia gasped.

"Nah, feudin' is what we do. The only way we settle this is with a fight!" Granny said.

"But you don't have to fight, right Sonic?" Sonia asked.

"Uh, right, y-you could uh-uh-uh-uh-uh…" Sonic said.

"You could settle it with music!"

"Yeah! What she said."

"Hm, maybe so. Yeah... Y'all think so? Okay…" Valley folk said.

"Well, we ain't played no music for a while, so, er, I pick Sonic Hedgehog here to do our playin'." Granny said.

"Huh?" Sonic said.

"And Sonia'll play for us." Zeb said.

"No way!"

"We really-" Sonia started but was cut off.

"Please, otherwise they'll just start fightin' again!" Serro said.

"I vote for music." Manic said.

"No problemo. But I gotta warn ya: when it comes to gettin' down, I'm the main hedgehog!" Sonic said.

"Oh, well I guess we'll just have to see about that, won't we?" Sonia said.

"Exactamundo!"

"Let's rip it!" Manic said.

["How You Play The Game"]

"Yeehaw! Yahoo! All right!" Valley folk said.

"Well, maybe we can work's together. Least way's long enough to stop this dam." Granny said.

"Well, now that we have them working together…" Sonia started.

"Time to take out the big guy!" Sonic said.

"You know the plan. When Sonic lures the guardian bot away, we strike."

"Go, sis!" Manic said.

"Hey, bolts-for-brains!" Sonic said and the robot shot his rear. "Oww!" she said and got her guitar out. "Okay, hotshot. Now it's personal." she said, blasted and provoked the robot, blew raspberry and the robot launched a grapple. "Ahh! Whoa, this bad boy's got some real juice!"

"Let's go!" Sonia said.

"Let's go!" Zeb said.

"Yeeehaaa! Wahoo!" everyone said.

"Take 'em out!" Manic said and there were shouts from the team.

"Yeah, move it on out!" Zeb said.

"Yeah, cowards, you get now!" Granny said.

"It's not over yet. Let's bring this dam down! How about a drum roll, Manic?" Sonia said.

"One downbeat, comin' up!" Manic said and the people gasped and panicked as they ran from Sleet's ship.

"They must have destroyed the guardian bot. Now we'll destroy them!" Sleet said and cackled harshly.

"Ah, man! Talk about snatchin' defeat from the jaws of victory!"

"Wish we had a robot to fight them fellers with." Serro said.

"That's an idea. If only I could get a message to Sonic!" Sonia said.

"It won't be hard to find him." Jarod said.

"That's for sure."

"No, Jared! It's too dangerous." Serro said.

"And this isn't? What do I tell Sonic?" Jarod asked.

"Man, Buttnik's outdone himself with this mean machine!" Sonic said and giggled. "Almost."

"It's me, Sonic! Sonia's got a plan!"

"Yo, what?" she said and dove away from a laser blast. "Heads up!"

"She wants you to bring that thing back to the dam."

"What?!"

"Er... it looks like they're gone." Dingo said.

"Wait a minute…" Sleet said.

"Sonia... it's Sonia!"

"Don't start. She's the enemy, remember?"

"Yeah. Okay."

"Time to stun two hedgehogs."

"Whoa!" they said.

"Uh-oh. What was that?" Dingo asked.

"Must protect dam." a robot said.

"Hey, doesn't he know we're on his side?"

"Does it look like he knows we're on his side?! Time for Plan B." Sleet said.

"Isn't there a Plan C?" Dingo said and Sleet transformed him. "Dahh!" he said and the team cheered.

"Yay, all right, we did it!" Sonia said.

"Yaaaaay!" everyone said.

"Thank goodness you're safe." Serro said.

"No problemo." Jared said.

"Now you're talkin', bud!" Sonic said.

"Just one more riff to play. Dance to this beat, bot!" Manic said.

"Push it, bro!"

"Target identified." a robot said and the dam burst and it toppled into the water. "Pro... tect... dam!"

"Great performance, Manic." Sonia said and kissed him.

Zeb gasped.

Granny: "Not bad for a bunch of yokels, eh Zeb?" Granny asked.

"Yeeeehaw! Let's have us a wingding!" Zeb said.

"Yeah, a win wingding!" she said and the party guests cheered and chattered. "Hey there, Sonic! You and your kinfolk come on over here, would ya?"

"What's up, Granny?" Sonic asked.

"I want's to thank y'all for what you've done. And since y'all like's music so much..."

"She ain't touched that thing since the feud started!"

"I want you to have my music jug." Granny said and looked inside it. Tarnation! What's in my jug?" She said and rattled it around. "Hooch my possum!" She said and he gasped.

"The medallion!"

"Well, for goodness sake. The medallion!" she said and gasped. "I remember's now! I put the medallion into my music jug for safekeepin'. But my mind wasn't really on the medallion that night. I reckon I owe's you an apology, Zeb. I'm awful sorry."

"Don't you worry nothin' about it, Granny. Maybe we's could pick up where's we left off?" Zeb said.

"Well, I think our work here is done." Sonic said.

"I'm thinkin' this oughta go to you young 'uns. You helped us save our homes and..." Granny said and looked at Zeb. "somethin' even more important."

"Gee Granny, I don't know."

"Granny's right. These are from your ma. You oughta have 'em." Zeb said.

"I... I don't know what to say." Sonia said.

"Hey, sis, look!" Sonic said and fit the medallions together. "It's a map! Well, I guess we know where we're headin' next."

"It looks like everybody got what they wanted. This calls for a hoedown!" Zeb said.

"Wanna dance?" Sonic asked.

"Delighted!" Sonia said.

"Maybe next time, sis!" Sonic said and Sonia chuckled.
