In Winterfell's courtyard, many Northerners wait in line to be served food. Davos is filling the bowls.
A man said, "Milord, we're not soldiers."
Davos said, "You are now. Look, I made it through most of my years without ever getting near a fight, but then I survived the Battle of the Bastards. Right outside these walls. If I can live through that, you can live through this. They'll outfit you with weapons at the forge. Right that way."
The man said, "Thank you." He nods towards Davos and walks off with his bowl.
Gilly said, "When the time comes, you'll be down in the crypts." Gilly is leading a young woman and an older couple, showing them where they will stay during the battle."
Gilly said, "They're the safest place to be. Through that archway right over there."
The woman said, "Thank you."
A young girl, named Teela, walks up to where the food is being served and holds her bowl up. Davos has his back turned.
Teela said, "Which way should I go?" Davos turns back around and looks at her.
Davos asked, "Which way do you want to go?"
Teela said, "All the children will be going below when the time comes." Gilly overhears the conversation and starts to walk over.
Teela said, "But both me brothers were soldiers. I want to fight too." Davos takes her bowl and fills it up as Gilly sits down next to her.
Gilly said, "That's good to hear. I'm going to be in the crypt with my son, and I'd feel a lot better with you down there to protect us."
Davos grinned and said, "I'm sure a lot of people would." He hands her bowl back to her.
Teela said, "All right. I'll defend the crypt, then." Teela walks off and Davos smiles at Gilly. A horn is then blared and the gates are opened as the remaining members of the Night Watch return with Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion. Sam Tarly greets Dolorous Edd who has just returned. Jon sees them and quickly heads over. Before he can embrace Edd, Tormund hugs him first.
Tormund said, "My little crow."
Jon said, "I thought we'd lost you."
Tormund said, "Almost." Jon turns to hug Edd. He then turns to Beric and shakes his hand.
Jon asked, "How did you find each other?"
Edd said, "We met up at the Last Hearth."
Tormund said, "The dead got there first."
Jon asked, "The Umbers?"
Beric said, "Fighting for the Night King now."
Tormund said, "We had to travel around them to get here. Whoever's not here now is with them."
Jon said, "How long do we have?"
Tormund said, "Before the sun comes up tomorrow."
Jon looks at Sam with a concerned look. Tormund looks back over his shoulder, surveying his surroundings.
Tormund asked, "The big woman still here?"

Archers walk up to the edge of the battlements in Winterfell with their bow and arrows. We see a man stretch the bow string
Jon said, "Far too many." A horse neighs and the man looks up over the wall.
—--
The army rides along the outside of the wall past the trench of spikes used to defend from the Army of the Dead.
Jon said,"Our enemy doesn't tire."
A view farther down until it reaches a gap in the trench outside the gate, the army rides through the center as soldiers emerge from the gate.
Jon says, "Doesn't stop. Doesn't feel."

In the library, a large table has a map of Winterfell laid out over it, with various markers placed outside the castle. The armies are organized in three groups in the middle outside the front of the castle. To either side of the groups are markers representing the different Northerners and Southerners armies. Facing all these troops are markers representing the Army of the Dead, these markers far outnumber the allies of Winterfell. Standing around the table is Sansa, Jon, Arya, Sam, Theon, Alys, Brienne, Jamie, Beric, Tormund, Davos, Lyanna, Royce, Varys, Jorah and Tyrion. Bran is seated behind Jon.
Jon said, "We can't beat them in a straight fight."
Jamie asked, "So, what can we do?"
Jon said, "The Night King made them all. They follow his command. If he falls and getting to him may be our best chance."
Jamie said, "If that's true, he'll never expose himself."
Bran said, "Yes, he will." Everyone in the room turns to look at Bran.
Bran said, "He'll come for me. He's tried before, many times, with many Three-Eyed Ravens."
Sam asked, "Why? What does he want?"
Bran said, "An endless night. He wants to erase this world, and I am its memory."
Sam said, "That's what death is, isn't it? Forgetting. Being forgotten. If we forget where we've been and what we've done, we're not men anymore. Just animals. Your memories don't come from books. Your stories aren't just stories. If I wanted to erase the world of men, I'd start with you."
Tyrion asked, "How will he find you?"
Bran said, "His mark is on me." Bran lifts the cuff of his right arm, revealing a red mark in the shape of a hand."
Bran said, "He always knows where I am."
Jon said, "We'll put you in the crypt, where it's safest."
Bran said, "No. We need to lure him into the open before his army destroys us all. I'll wait for him in the Godswood."
The map of Winterfell, to the east, within the walls, is the Godswood.
Sansa said, "You want us to use you as bait?"
Arya said, "We're not leaving you alone out there."
Theon said, "He won't be. I'll stay with him. With the Ironborn. I took this castle from you. Let me defend you now."
Davos said, "We'll hold off the rest of them for as long as we can."
Tyrion said, "When the time comes, Ser Davos will be on the walls, to give you the signal to light the trench."
Aldarra said, "Ser Davos will be perfectly capable of waving a torch on his own. You'll be in the air on Viserion with me and Jon concentrating on killing the dead and avoiding the spears they throw at our dragons." Tyrion looks shocked and turns to her.
Tyrion said, "Aldarra, I have fought before, but I can do that with you and Jon. As long as I'm helping the men and women risking their lives. I will be contributing then."
Aldarra said, "That is true, my dear friend, but there are thousands of them and only one of you. You can't fight on the ground as well as they can on land, but you can out think better than any of them. You're here because of your mind. If we survive, we'll need it." Tyrion nods and smiles at her. She always made him feel a part of the family and useful. He loved her for that.
Davos said, "The dragons should give us a big edge in the field."
Jon said, "If we're in the field, they're not protecting Bran. We need someone to be near him. Not too near, or the Night King won't come. But close enough to pursue him when he does.
Arya said, "Dragonfire will stop him?"
Aldarra said, "It won't. I found out when I went beyond the Wall to reduce their numbers. He is immune as well as the White Walkers but the dead are not. Jon, Tyrion and myself will be flying dragons. Our objective is to eliminate as many dead as possible before they can reach the castle. I was lucky when I reduced the numbers. Drogon was hit with the Night King's spear but bounced off his armor. Drogon avoided the others after that. He did brilliantly in our first encounter. He learned from the first hit, so be careful when it comes to the ice spears." Jon and Tyrion nodded.
Tormund said, "We're all going to die." He turns to look at Brienne.
Tormund said, "But at least we die together."
Jon said, "Let's get some rest."
Everyone begins to leave the library as Jon and Aldarra remain at the table.
Jon said, "Aldarra." Jon then gets up and leaves along with almost everyone else. Only Tyrion and Bran remain.
Tyrion said, "Do you need help?"
Bran said, "No."
Tyrion said, "You've had a strange journey."
Bran said, "Stranger than most."
Tyrion said, "I'd like to hear about it." He grabs a wooden chair and drags it over next to Bran.
Bran said, "It's a long story." Tyrion sits in the chair.
Tyrion said, "If only we were trapped in a castle, in the middle of winter, with nowhere to go

Up on the battlements over the wall and Sam and Jon stand next to each other with Ghost, Jon's direwolf, behind them. Sam leans over slightly towards Jon.
Sam asked, "Have you told her yet?"
Jon shook his head and said, "No."
Sam said, "Mm-hmm. Being careful. Waiting for the perfect…"
He pauses and they both look at each other and fall silent. Edd walks up the stairs behind them and stands between them.
Edd said, "And now our watch begins."
Jon asked, "Gilly? Little Sam?"
Sam said, "They'll be safe down in the crypt."
Jon said, "If you want to join them." Sam looks at him and frowns.
Jon said, "To protect them."
Sam said, "Everyone seems to forget that I was the first man to kill a White Walker. I've killed Thenns."
Edd said, "Thenn."
Sam said, "I've saved Gilly more than once. I stole a considerable number of books from the Citadel library, survived the Fist of the First Men. You need me out there."
Edd said, "Well, if that's what it's come to, we really are fucked."
Sam said, "Well, calling you 'fucked' wouldn't be strictly accurate." Sam chuckles and Edd looks at him. He turns to see Jon laughing too.
Edd said, "Samwell Tarly. Slayer of White Walkers. Lover of Ladies. As if we needed any more signs the world was ending." Sam sighs.
Sam said, "Think back to where we started. Us, Grenn, Pyp."
Jon said, "Now it's just us three."
Edd said, "Last man left, burn the rest of us."
Over the wall through the silhouette of the trees in the distance block the light slowly fading over the horizon.

The fire in the hearth of the Great Hall is lit. Two wooden chairs sit facing it, occupied by Jamie to the left of the fire and Tyrion to the right. They both sip on wine.
Tyrion said, "I wonder if father realizes that we are both here together." Jamie looks at Tyrion in shock.
Tyrion said, "I would love to see his face when he realizes that both sons are about to die defending Winterfell of all places together." Jamie snorts.
Jamie said, "That is something to see. I don't think he'd be too worried with little Tyren safe with him."
Tyrion said, "That's true. I remember the first time we were here, the first time I saw this hall."
Jamie said, "Mm."
Tyrion said, "You were a golden lion. I was a drunken whore-monger. It was all so simple."
Jamie said, "It wasn't so simple. I was sleeping with my sister and you had one friend in the world who was sleeping with his sister."
Tyrion said, "I was speaking in relative terms."
Jamie said, "Do you miss it?"
Tyrion said, "Of course I miss it."
Jamie said, "Well, my golden lion days are done, but whore-mongering is still an option for you." Tyrion sighs.
Tyrion said, "It's not. Things would be easier if it were." Tyrion raises his cup to toast.
Tyrion said, "The perils of self-betterment."
Jamie raises his cup and they both go to drink. Jamie stops himself when the door to the hall opens and Brienne and Podrick walk in. Jamie stands up quickly and they both turn to look at the visitors.
Jamie said, "Oh! My lady."
Brienne said, "Oh, we didn't mean to interrupt. We were just looking for somewhere warm to…"
Tyrion said, "To contemplate your imminent death. You've come to the right place. You want some of this piss? It's not bad. It's not good either." Tyrion walks over to where the wine is kept, Podrick starts to walk to him.
Podrick said, "Thank you, milord."
Brienne said, "I don't think that's wise." Podrick turns back to Brienne.
Brienne said, "The battle might start at any moment." She pauses.
Brienne said, "Half cup."
Tyrion asked, "And you?"
Tyrion continues to pour Podrick's drink until the cup overflows with wine.
Brienne said, "No, thank you. I should try and get some sleep."
Jamie said, "You really think any of us are going to sleep tonight? Join us." Jamie places another chair in front of the fire.
Brienne said, "All right. Just a bit."
Tyrion pours Brienne a drink and hands it to her as she sits down. Podrick grabs a chair and brings it over and sits down. Davos and Tormund enter the hall.
Davos asked, "Well, what do we have here?"
Tyrion said, "Ser Davos, join us."
Davos said, "No, not for me, thanks. Came here for this." Davos stands in front of the fire to warm up.
Davos said, "I figured I could wait to die freezing my balls off out there or wait to die nice and warm in here." Tormund walks up to Brienne and stands in front of her.
Tormund said, "It could be our last night in this world, you know." Jamie, now sitting down next to Brienne, glances up.
Brienne said, "Yes, well, I'm glad you're here." She pauses and quickly tries to recover.
Brienne said, "Here fighting with us. Glad you survived Eastwatch."
Tyrion said, "Would you like a drink?"
Tormund turns to Tyrion and raises his drinking horn."
Tormund said, "Brought my own."
Tormund looks at Jamie, over to Brienne, and then back to Jamie again.
Tormund said, "They call you "King Killer."
Jamie grins and says, "I'm sure someone does."
Tormund said, "They call me 'Giantsbane.' Want to know why?"
Jamie sighs and looks over at Tyrion who is still standing to the side of the room with his wine. Tormund grabs a wooden chair and places it with his back to the fire so that he is facing Jamie and Brienne. He sits down and leans forwards.
Tormund said, "I killed a giant when I was ten. Then I climbed right into bed with his wife." Davos glances at Tormund, clearly perplexed.
Tormund said, "When she woke up, you know what she did? Suckled me at her teat for three months. Thought I was her baby. That's how I got so strong. Giant's milk."
Tormund raises the horn to his mouth and starts drinking from it whilst gulping noisily. Everyone stares at him as the drink pours out the horn, mostly down his front.
Davos said, "Maybe I will have that drink."
